A ridiculous fear pursued me, in fact: one could not die without having confessed all one's lies. Not to God or to one of his representatives; I was above that, as you well imagine. No, it was a matter of confessing to men, to a friend, to a beloved woman, for example. Otherwise, were there but one lie hidden in a life, death made it definitive. [...] That absolute murder of a truth used to make me dizzy. [...] I pulled myself together, of course. What did one man's lie matter in the history of generations? [...] I also told myself that the body's death, to judge from those I had seen, was in itself sufficient punishment that absolved all. Salvation was won (that is, the right to disappear definitively) in the sweat of the death agony.
- Albert Camus, Le Chute (The Fall) tl. Justin O'Brien

@fanfic-inator795 I would love to write a whole post on this one day, but in summary: I don't think Donnie's shell should be considered a weakness! At least in canon? Donnie is a spiny soft shell turtle - his shell is meant to be like that!
A lot of people interpret it as a metaphor (? can't think of the right word) for a disability, and I'm not saying that's wrong or people shouldn't think that, I've found a lot of posts/fanart/fanfic that I've really enjoyed that interpret Donnie's soft shell as a disability. It's just that I've seen some people really infantilizing him or treating him as if he's super fragile because of it.
In the series, we saw him fight multiple times without his battle shell without any problems or worries - especially in "Insane in the Mama Train", where he purposefully left it behind knowing that he was going up against strong enemies. AND his brothers and Splinter also knew this, and weren't worried about him. I don't think there was any moments in the series where Donnie was depicted as vulnerable because of his shell? It's been a while since I've done a watch through so idk that might be wrong.
And then suddenly in the movie, it became a problem, a weakness he had to consider? I wouldn't care if it had always been apart of his character, but to me it seems like they only just decided to include that. If you're going to give a character something that could very easily be considered a disability then commit!! Include it although out the series, not just when you think it'd add suspense!
unpopular opinion probably but I really don't like how they handled donnie being a softshell turtle in the movie!!
#i have a LOT of thoughts of donnie being a soft shell!!! a loglt of people ignore how it could also give him different strengths#like being more flexible than his brothers or being able to pass as human more easily#i think about this a lot i would love to actually fully write a post or essay or whatever one day#rottmnt spoilers#rottmnt#rise#donnie#talking tag#rottmnt movie#egg thinks too hard#soft shell talk

Reading The Witcher. Is Ciri literally a child or
#logxx#Then again the timeline seems to be a bit weird and I haven't finished the first chapter#I first assumed that Ciri was Geralt's love interest then just assumed both Ciri and Yennefer were his love interests#But then the way the crowd was talking about her and her relationship to Geralt made it seem more like she was literally a child#Of whom he took care#loglt

Remembers the person who got actually morally offended that Alabaster and Syenite had sex
The Imperial Orogene naming theme makes it sound like I'm posting about Steven Universe and or Houseki no Kuni so I'm never using this blog again
#logxx#loglt#Making Alabaster gay literally just so it's not weird at all#The person in question was mad specifically bc Alabaster is way older than Syenite/Essun which like. Yeah#I don't know what to tell you. The book made it very clear they did not want to have sex w each other

'Lolita, or the Confession of a White Widowed Male,' such were the two titles under which the writer of the present note received the strange pages it preambulates. 'Blorbo Blorbo,' their author, had died in legal captivity, of coronary thrombosis, on November 16, 1952, a few days before his trial was scheduled to start.

It is nice to read a fantasy series where characters aren't talking about how Women Exist To Fuck And Get Pregnant constantly
#logxx#loglt#Like even when the concept for Broken Earth's setting is that everything is done for purposes of survival#And there are entire castes of people who exist To Have Children#It's very normal about women

Also being like "well people would like classics if they weren't FORCED to read them!!!" is very silly 1. because it ignores that sustained reading- the literal act of reading, without factoring in such skills as critical analysis- is an acquired and practiced skill, and that people who do not read long passages on a regular basis often have trouble reading extended prose works and 2. because it implies people like classics and young adult fiction for the same reasons, which they absolutely absolutely do not
#logxx#loglt#Like ultimately the reason any person dislikes classics is because classics aren't... fun#They're challenging. And someone not enjoying that challenge isn't a moral positive or negative it just is#Being ''forced'' to read classics in school has little impact on the actual retention or enjoyment of classic novels#I've never really met anyone who enjoyed classics in general even while in high school but then hated being ''forced'' to read them#Nor have I met anyone who hated reading (specifically reading) for school but liked reading in general#And if people really hated being ''forced'' to read novels and this were directly correlated to their enjoyment of the novel itself#Book clubs would not be so popular lol

And like ultimately I think what a lot of people are unwilling to contend with is that all art is fetishism and you gotta get to a point where you figure out what's the morally aesthetically artistically acceptable fetishism and what isn't
#logxx#The problem with Hanya Yanagihara isn't just that she fetishizes gay pain it's also that she's fucking boring about it#loglt
