[Javascript] 如何以 Object 內的 properties 進行陣列排序

這篇文章是從 3年前寫在 logdown blogger 的，但現在他似乎沒有在服務了，只好手動備份過來

假設我們有一個 Array，Array 內的每個 element 都是一個 Obejct，但我們想根據某個條件排序這個陣列，該怎麼做呢?

以下說明如何利用 Array.prototype.sort() 加上實作自己的 compare function，對 Object 內任意 property 進行排序。

首先我們先參考一下 Array.prototype.sort() 的說明文件 說明文件

The sort() method sorts the elements of an array in place and returns the array. The sort is not necessarily stable. The default sort order is according to string Unicode code points.

arr.sort([compareFunction]) Parameters

Optional. Specifies a function that defines the sort order. If omitted, the array is sorted according to each character's Unicode code point value, according to the string conversion of each element.

sort()函數會吃一個compareFunction當作參數，並根據compareFunction的回傳值，作為排序結果的參考。 稍微要注意的是，假如沒有丟任何compareFunction的實作當參數，array會根據每個字元的Unicode值進行排序，當然，所有型別皆會先轉型為String才進行排序。

var fruit = ['cherries', 'apples', 'bananas']; fruit.sort(); // ['apples', 'bananas', 'cherries'] var scores = [1, 10, 2, 21]; scores.sort(); // [1, 10, 2, 21] // Watch out that 10 comes before 2, // because '10' comes before '2' in Unicode code point order. var things = ['word', 'Word', '1 Word', '2 Words']; things.sort(); // ['1 Word', '2 Words', 'Word', 'word'] // In Unicode, numbers come before upper case letters, // which come before lower case letters.

從文件上的範例可以看到，使用 default 的 sort() 函數，排序結果完全是根據 Unicod 來排序。 所以像是數字的排序，可能結果就跟你預期的不同。若是數字跟字串混合，number 在 Unicode 裡的順序比大寫字元前面， 而接著是小寫字元。

CompareFunction

前面提到，可以丟一個任意一個 CompareFunction 作為參數，相當於告訴 Sort() 要如何排序。 這個 CompareFunction 要怎麼實作呢?

很簡單，有幾個重點注意即可。

compareFunction(a, b)

如果要告訴 Sort() 函數如何排序，也就是說你必須明確告訴他 a, b 兩個 element 相比誰大誰小? 1. 如果回傳值為小於 0，相當於告訴他 a 必須要放在較小的 index 值，而 sort() 會回傳 Array，意思是 a 會在 b 前面。 2. 如果回傳值為 0，代表兩個值相等，index 值保持不變即可。 3. 如果回傳值為大於 0，代表 a 必須放在較大的 index，意思是 a 會在 b 後面。

從上面的說明可以發現，我們也可以根據自己的比較結果，控制回傳值的正負，達到實現升幕集降幕的結果。

簡單的實作範例:

function compare(a, b) {  if (你認為 a 比 b 小的任意條件) {    return -1;  }  if (你認為 a 比 b 大的任意條件) {    return 1;  }  // a must be equal to b  return 0; }

如果比較的不是 String，而是 Number，可以直接以運算(相減)的方式回傳結果。

function compareNumbers(a, b) {  return a - b; }

Sort a Object by its property

知道怎麼實作 compareFunction 來對整個陣列排序後，想想我們的初衷: 如何用陣列裡某個 Object 的 property 作為排序的依據?

也許我可以寫一個 Anonymous function 以身高作為條件進行排序
