A worthy final chapter to Wolverine’s story, LOGAN is the first movie from the X-Men universe that really stands out in style and storytelling. Admittedly, it does need some getting used to but if you open up to the idea it’s a hell of a ride. More serious, darker, and yes, more bloody than what we’re used to, this movie picks up in 2029, long after the last mutant was born. Aged and sickly Logan has been driven into seclusion with Charles Xavier and their friend Caliban. Through a series of unexpected events he finds himself on a roadtrip to drop of young girl Laura at a safe place in North Dakota. Meanwhile, the power-hungry company Alkali-Transigen wants to acquire Laura at any cost.

Hugh Jackman picks up his role of Logan almost effortlessly and successfully shows a man broken by more than a few battles and deaths of friends. His unwillingness to get involved in ‘other people’s problems’ and his faltering mutant powers show an interesting side of the character that makes it an interesting watch.

Dafne Keen is a new face in the role of 11-year-old Laura, who acts out her role brilliantly without uttering a single word until halfway through the movie. Her withdrawn and aggressive character has a lot of depth without clashing with Logan as the main character. Their interplay is what makes it special and shows a much more complicated relationship than what we’ve seen before.

Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) returns as a familiar face in a completely different stage of his life in which his age is having catastrophic influence on his mutant powers.

Finally, the soundtrack is also worth a look, some of my personal favourites being Way Down We Go by Kaleo and Johnny Cash’s The Man Comes Around.

In summary, this is a more realistic and darker look into the X-Men universe in which most X-Men have died out and the survivors struggle on the brink of extinction. If you’d like to stick to entertaining action-movies with nice special effects and comic-like costumes, this won’t be for you. Also, the gory scenes involving children in brutal battle are not for the faint-hearted. Apart from that, it’s interesting to see what has become of the mutant world in a more severe light.

A message to the makers of Logan: Just because Deadpool worked so well with unnecessary gorey violence doesn't mean your movie will too. God, it was horrible. The beginning was super boring, then everything happened way too fast without any explanation. And it would have worked without gore every twenty minutes ffs.

¡Hola! pues en el canal de LILA tenemos varios programas, este es uno de ellos.

Se llama TasteMaker y ahorita andamos estrenando episodio, una reseña hablando sobre la película de Logan que titulamos: “El final de una era (y el comienzo de una mejor)”, refiriéndonos a este concepto alterno que se viene para el género de superhéroes.

Fuimos a ver la movie al cine y no sabía lo que me esperaba... del todo.

I just saw Logan... I went in thinking I was sort of prepared, as I've read some opinions and reviews, so I knew it was a powerful, involving, emotional movie. And yet... It destroyed me. It's been quite a long time since I cried like a baby in a theatre. I wasn't ready for the onslaught of feelings. Hugh Jackman is monumental.
