Tips from a Locksmith Near Ilford to Help You in an Emergency
Winter weather can wreak havoc on your car, and one of the most frustrating problems you might face is a frozen car door.
When you're in a hurry to get to work or to pick up your kids from school, the last thing you need is a car door that won't budge.
But don't worry – there are a few things you can do to get your car door open and get on your way. Here are some tips from an emergency locksmith near me to help you out.
1. Use De-Icer Spray
One of the easiest ways to get a frozen car door open is to use a de-icer spray. You can buy these sprays at most auto parts stores, and they work by melting the ice that's keeping your door shut.
Just spray the de-icer on the frozen area, wait a few minutes, and then try to open the door. If it still won't budge, try spraying some more de-icer and waiting a bit longer.
2. Use Hot Water
If you don't have any de-icer spray on hand, you can try using hot water to melt the ice. This method is a bit riskier than using de-icer, as the sudden temperature change can cause the glass to crack.
However, if you're careful and use water that's not too hot, you should be okay. Just pour the hot water over the frozen area, wait a minute or two, and then try to open the door.
3. Use a Hair Dryer
Another way to melt the ice that's keeping your car door shut is to use a hair dryer. Simply point the hair dryer at the frozen area and let the warm air do its work.
This method can take a bit longer than using de-icer or hot water, but it's a good option if you don't have any other tools on hand.
4. Use a Dehumidifier
If you have a dehumidifier at home, you can use it to dry out the air inside your car and prevent your doors from freezing shut in the first place.
Just plug in the dehumidifier and leave it running overnight. This will remove any excess moisture from the air and prevent ice from forming on your car's windows and doors.
In conclusion
if you find yourself with a frozen car door, don't panic. There are several things you can do to get your door open and get on your way. Whether you use de-icer spray, hot water, a hair dryer, or a dehumidifier, you should be able to get your car door open with a little patience and persistence.
And if all else fails, don't hesitate to call an Emergency locksmith near me for help. They'll be able to get your car door open in no time.

The fourth of several posts about illustrations (of the 1780 section) of Charles Dickens's Barnaby Rudge.
'The Golden Key' locksmith's (The Varden Residence), Clerkenwell, London
Characters featured: Gabriel Varden (resident), Mrs Varden (resident), Miggs (resident), Sim Tappertit (resident), Dolly Varden, Joe Willet, Edward Chester, Mr Haredale, Emma Haredale, Miggs's nephew, various rioters
Chapters featured: 41, 51, 63, 79, 80
Illustrators featured: Phiz (Hablot Knight Browne), Fred Barnard, A. H. Buckland, Harry Furniss
The Locksmith at work

By Fred Barnard (1874) for the beginning of chapter 41:
From the workshop of the Golden Key, there issued forth a tinkling sound, so merry and good-humoured, that it suggested the idea of some one working blithely, and made quite pleasant music. No man who hammered on at a dull monotonous duty, could have brought such cheerful notes from steel and iron; none but a chirping, healthy, honest-hearted fellow, who made the best of everything, and felt kindly towards everybody, could have done it for an instant.
Dressing for Defence

Left: Harry Furniss (1910); Right: Phiz (1841); both for chapter 41.
Dolly and Miggs help Mr Varden dress in his Royal East London Volunteers uniform. I believe the Royal East London Volunteers themselves were fictional, but were based on real volunteer regiments who were formed to provide a sort of 'home guard' function and last defence in the event of invasion. In this case (and, indeed, most cases in British eighteenth and nineteenth century literature where characters join volunteer regiments) volunteers were sought due to fear of invasion from the French.
This scene of Mr Varden dressing in his uniform may seem a little unnecessary, given the fact that Mr Varden's position in the volunteers is never relevant in the story again, but I think the point is to remind readers of the international tensions which influence the national tensions in the novel. The second half of Barnaby Rudge is set in 1780, during the Anglo-French war of 1778-1783, and the American Revolutionary War / the American War of Independence. The fact that Britain was at war, and especially that they were at war with the French (a largely Catholic country), is important background to the Gordon Riots.
(This part of Barnaby Rudge is, of course, concurrent or near-concurrent with the 1780 section of A Tale of Two Cities, where Anglo-French tensions are even more relevant.)
Other Indoor Scenes at The Golden Key

Left: A. H. Buckland (1900) for chapter 41 showing Dolly and Miggs; Right: Phiz (1841) for chapter 79 showing the scene between Edward Chester, Emma Haredale, and Mr Haredale;

Left: Fred Barnard (1974) for chapter 51 when Sim returns drunk to The Golden Key at the end of one of the first nights of rioting; Right: Phiz (1841) for chapter 80, when Miggs attempts to return to The Golden Key and the Varden family, following the end of the riots and her earlier betrayal when she disabled Mr Varden's gun and therefore left him unable to defend the house from rioters...
Outside The Golden Key

By Fred Barnard (1874) for chapter 63, when the rioters are attacking The Golden Key. Gabriel Varden and Miggs are visible at the windows, and Hugh, Dennis, and Sim are recognisable in the crowd.
#i am still planning to finish these posts...#😅#illustration#barnaby rudge#barnaby rudge (book)#dickens daily#barnaby rudge; a tale of the riots of 'eighty

What Makes Bathroom Locks in London an Essential Component for Your Home Security?

There is no home without bathroom locks, one of those invisible hidden features in many homes whose installation is almost never given a second thought. There is so much importance attached to bathroom locks, though, as it goes beyond creating privacy and security for the family members using that bathroom to their guests who are accommodated overnight in your house. But what really makes a bathroom lock reliable? How do you choose the right bathroom lock for your home in London? This blog will answer all those questions by breaking down what to consider and sharing five real-life case studies as well as statistical insights into the current trends of bathroom locks.
Why Are Bathroom Locks Important in London?
What bathroom locks offer is the guarantee that the most private room in a house will be secure while in use. It could mean bestowing personal space on family members or being assured of peace of mind for visitors. Achieving this is facilitated through comfort in your house, and in London, which is such a busy city where securing homes and personal space are paramount, selecting bathroom locks is not just deciding between a cosmetic choice-it's a necessity.
What Are Some Bathroom Locks Used in London?
Many bathroom locks London are sold in London to cater for different preferences and various needs for security. These include:
1. Thumb Turn and Release Locks
This is the most appropriate for inner bathroom doors. The locking of the door is always from inside the bathroom. Sometimes, there is an escape release from the outer side while still maintaining security.
2. Privacy Locks – Designed specifically for bathrooms, privacy locks only come through one side of the lock and are as secure as any lock.
3. Keyed Locks- While most homeowners in London do not care to have a keyed lock on the door to their bathrooms, there are a few that request extra security and so some are installed.
4. Digital Locks – For a homeowner that likes the advanced technology inside their home, it is possible to have a locksmith in London install a digital lock. Not only are they modern, but they can be very convenient, especially in high-tech families.
What Features Must the Bathroom Lock Possess?
1. Durability- A bathroom lock, mostly made from stainless steel, chrome, or brass, is capable of lasting a very long time.
2. Easy to Use- it should be important that the lock is easily usable if there is an emergency.
3. Design- Compliances with the style of your bathroom should be maintained, which is either modern or traditional.
4. Emergency Release – It must be fitted with a safety release mechanism so that in the event of an emergency, there is easy access from outside.
Case Study 1: A Victorian Home in South London
In South London recently, a household renovated a Victorian style house, which included traditional thumb turn and release bathroom locks. While it was these locks that gave the old vintageness to the looks of a house, an issue arose when one lock malfunctioned and left a family member locked inside. Fortunately, the emergency release mechanism worked like a dream in saving the person.
Stat Insight: As per a survey conducted by the London Home Improvement Association, 78 percent of homeowners of London like locks on their bathrooms with an emergency release for added security.
Bathroom Locks and House Security
While bathroom locks are essentially created to protect your personal space, it indirectly contributes to the security of your house. A vulnerable lock in the bathroom can be a weak entry point, especially if the burglar wants to break into the house and find secluded places. A strong and trusty bathroom lock will make every place in your home secure, including bathrooms.
Case Study 2: Modern Flat in East London
A family, who lived in a modern apartment in East London, chose the digital bathroom lock simply because it would provide them with a keyless ease of convenience and higher security. They soon found that the locks were more appropriate for external doors. Considering them, they opted again for privacy locks in the bathroom, which would bring them comfort and safety simultaneously.
Stat Insight: Digital locks account for only 15% of the bathroom locks sales in London, where there is growing interest in high-tech solutions, but traditional locks are more in demand.
How to Choose a Right Bathroom Lock for Your London Home?
The choice of bathroom lock depends on the following:
Budget: What amount are you willing to spend? Basic thumb turn locks are inexpensive, while digital locks can be pricey.
Beauty: Choose a lock that fits the look of your house, be it modern, old-fashioned, or really antique.
Security: In order to increase security, some house owners opt for locks as part of an entire home security system.
Family Requirements: When kids or elderly family members reside with you, convenience and how easily you can open or in case of emergency, release from it, will be matters.
In West London, a couple with young children preferred privacy locks with child-safety features. The door configuration was designed so that children could not lock themselves inside the bathroom and had large, user-friendly, emergency release mechanisms outside, something parents could be assured about.
Stat Insight: 62% of households in the city of London with children aged under 10 use bathroom locks that feature child safety locking.
Which are the New Trends in Bathroom Locks in London?
The bathroom lock market is not static, and there are some interesting trends in the city that must be noted:
1. Super Sleek Minimalist
-Style Bathroom Locks – Owners opt for very minimalist locks to add to the facades of modern bathroom designs.
2. Intelligent Locks – Though still a niche product, the smart toilet and bathroom lock is fast becoming popular with high-tech houses across the London arena; they offer access from any area using keyless entry as well as remote control.
3. Environmental Materials – Green or more environmentally aware locks are gaining popularity as the bathroom locks may be made of renewable resources or materials that would otherwise go to the landfill as waste.
Case Study 4: Green House in North London
This North London homeowner invested in green locks for her bathroom made from recycled stainless steel. The locks are more resistant, fitting with the family's strong belief in sustainability, although the price-tag is astronomical. To the homeowner, being durable and friendly to the environment made the extra spend worth it.
Stat Insight: 25% of homeowners in London are willing to pay more for eco-friendly bathroom locks made using eco-friendly materials.
It is surprising how many differences a bathroom lock can make to the total value of your home. A stylishly secured lock in your bathroom gives security and makes the bathroom look great, too. It is such a little detail that may attract more people when selling your property, especially in cities like London, which can be very competitive.
Case Study 5: Central London Real Estate Investment
A Central London investor purchased an antique townhouse. Among many other revamps, the investor installed fine brass locks on the doors of the bathroom. To give it a perfect timeless look, the brass bathroom lock was given a traditional design. A post-renovation valuation increased the value of the property by 3% because of such a fine addition to the bathrooms.
Stat Insight: House buyers in London are willing to pay 2-3% more for homes that feature high-quality bathroom fixtures, including locks.
Conclusion: Why Change Your Bathroom Lock in London?
Bathroom locks are one of the many small details in a house improvement process. Yet they have much to say both when it comes to privacy and security. Whether you are remodeling your London home or just changing your bathroom, a high-quality lock is very important. From the simple thumb turn and release to digital smart variants, there are many different choices suited for any requirement or style. Choose a bathroom lock that suits your ideas of durability, security, and aesthetic style in order to get the best of functionality along with design.
Stat Summary:
78% of the house owners in London want the Emergency release function, alongside bathroom locks London.
15% of Digital bathroom locks are sold and continue to acquire market share in London
62% of the parents with young children prefer child protection locks
25% of house owners of the city of London are willing to pay more money for saving water and energy locks
High-grade bathroom fixtures like locks will contribute about 2-3% of the final property value.
It is literally the difference between privacy and security within the comfort of your own home. Whether you want to enhance the bathroom's interior decor or sell your home in the near future, now is the best time for you to consider upgrading your bathroom lock.

Times Square Red, Times Square Blue by Samuel R. Delaney
I have at least one straight male friend who on half a dozen occasions has got- ten editorial jobs for women he first met and befriended while they were working as topless dancers in various strip clubs that put them on the fringe of the sex workers’ service profession.
A young street hustler in the Forty-second Street area whom I knew (but was not a client of) introduced me to a new client of his once—a twenty-six-year-old lapsed Jesuit priest—for whom I shortly secured a job at a paperback publishing house, in much the same manner.
Another supermarket-line conversation was with a young man who was an aspiring director, looking for some science fiction stories to turn into brief teleplays. I was able to jot down for him a quick bibliography of young SF writers and short stories that he might pursue. Whether or not it came to anything, I have no way of knowing. But it was easy and fun.
Still another time, it was a young woman casting director who needed some- one to play the small part of a fisherman in a film she was working on. She decided I would be perfect for it, and I found myself with a weekend acting job.
One Saturday morning in January ’98, my vacuum cleaner shorted out and an hour later I set it on the street by the gate before the garbage cans for my building, after making a mental note to shop for a replacement that weekend. Forty
minutes on, at my local copy center, I was getting a set of photocopies for an earlier draft of this very piece, when a broad-faced, gray-eyed Italian American in his late thirties, wearing a shiny red and blue jacket, wandered in: “Anyone wanna buy a wet-dry vacuum cleaner? Ten bucks.” My first suspicion was that he was reselling the one I’d just abandoned. My second was that the one he was selling didn’t work. A look disproved the first. Plugging his machine into an outlet in the shop’s baseboard for a minute disproved the second. So I went home once more with a vacuum cleaner:
Contact.
Contact encounters so dramatic are rare—but real. The more ordinary sorts of contact yield their payoff in moments of crisis: When there is a fire in your building (of the sort I mentioned above), it may be the people who have been exchanging pleasantries with you for years who take you into their home for an hour or a day, or even overnight. Contact includes the good Samaritans at traffic accidents (the two women who picked me up and got me a cab when my cane gave way and I fell on the street, dislocating a finger), or even the neighbor who, when you’ve forgotten your keys at the office and are locked out of your apartment, invites you in for coffee and lets you use her phone to call a locksmith; or, as once happened to me in the mid-sixties when my then-neighborhood, the Lower East Side, was at its most neighborly and under the influence of the counterculture, a London guest arrived on Wednesday when I was out of town and expecting him on Thursday. Someone living across the street, who didn’t know me at all, saw a stranger with two suitcases on my apartment stoop looking bewildered, invited him in to wait for me, then eventually put him up for a night until I returned.
A final example: My current lover of eight years and I first met when he was homeless and selling books from a blanket spread out on Seventy-second Street. Our two best friends for many years now are a male couple, one of whom I first
met in an encounter, perhaps a decade ago, at the back of the now closed-down Variety Photoplays Movie Theater on Third Avenue just below Fourteenth Street. Outside my family, these are among the two most rewarding relationships I have: both began as cross-class contacts in a public space.
Visitors to New York might be surprised that such occurrences are central to my vision of the city at its healthiest.
Lifetime residents won’t be.
Watching the metamorphosis of such vigil and concern into considered and helpful action is what gives one a faithful and loving attitude toward one’s neighborhood, one’s city, one’s nation, the world.
I have taken “contact,” both term and concept, from Jane Jacobs’s instructive 1961 study, The Death and Life of Great American Cities. Jacobs describes contact as a fundamentally urban phenomenon and finds it necessary for everything from neighborhood safety to a general sense of social well-being. She sees it supported by a strong sense of private and public in a field of socioeconomic diversity that mixes living spaces with a variety of commercial spaces, which in turn must provide a variety of human services if contact is to function in a pleasant and rewarding manner. Jacobs mentions neither casual sex nor public sexual relations as part of contact—presumably because she was writing at a time when such things were not talked of or analyzed as elements contributing to an overall pleasurable social fabric. Today we can.
When social forces menace the distinction between private and public, people are most likely to start distrusting contact relations. In The Death and Life of Great American Cities (98–111), Jacobs analyzes how limited socioeconomic resources in the area around a public park (lack of restaurants, bathrooms, drugstores, and small shops) can make the mothers who use the playground and live near it feel that their privacy within their home is threatened—thus markedly changing their public attitude to interclass contact. Briefly, a park with no public eating spaces, restaurants, or small item shopping on its borders forces mothers who live adjacent to it and who thus use it the most to “share everything or nothing” in terms of offering facilities of bathroom use and the occasional cup of coffee to other mothers and their children who use the park but do not live so near. Because the local mothers feel they must offer these favors to whomever they are even civil with (since such services are not publicly available), they soon become extremely choosy and cliquish about whom they will even speak to. The feel of the park becomes exclusive and snobbish—and uncomfortable (and inconvenient) for mothers who, in carriage, dress, race, or class, do not fit a rigid social pattern.
Similarly, if every sexual encounter involves bringing someone back to your house, the general sexual activity in a city becomes anxiety-filled, class-bound, and choosy. This is precisely why public rest rooms, peep shows, sex movies, bars with grope rooms, and parks with enough greenery are necessary for a relaxed and friendly sexual atmosphere in a democratic metropolis.

WHEN YOU SHOULD CHANGE YOUR DOOR LOCK

As a homeowner, you want to make sure that your property is secure at all times. One of the essential components of your home security is your door lock.
But how do you know when it’s time to change it? In this article, we’ll discuss the signs that indicate it’s time to change your door lock and the importance of hiring expert locksmith In London services.
When should you change your door lock?
There are several situations where you should consider changing your door lock. Here are some of the most common ones:
1. You’ve recently moved into a new home:
If you’ve just moved into a new home, you should consider changing your door lock. You never know who might have a spare key, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.
2. Your lock is old and outdated:
If your door lock is old and outdated, it may not be providing the level of security you need. Locks can wear out over time, making them easier to pick or break.
3. Your lock has been damaged:
If your lock has been damaged in a break-in or another incident, it’s important to replace it as soon as possible. A damaged lock is easier to bypass, which puts your home at risk.
4. You’ve lost your keys:
If you’ve lost your keys, you should change your door lock to prevent unauthorized access to your home.
Why is it important to hire expert locksmith services?
Changing a door lock may seem like a simple task, but it’s not something you should attempt on your own.
Here are some reasons why you should hire expert locksmith services:
1. They have the knowledge and expertise:
Professional locksmiths have the knowledge and expertise to handle all types of locks. They can help you choose the right lock for your home and install it properly.
2. They have the right tools:
Locksmiths have the right tools to install and repair locks. They can quickly and efficiently replace your door lock without causing damage to your door.
