Fishkeeping is hard.. not because water perimeters is too hard or keeping plants alive or any of that. But because I only ever learn about a common problem a fish has when I'm googling symptoms.

I've been dreaming about a dwarf gourami for 3 years and just now I find out that 70% of them in the market die from a virus they are susceptible to?

It's so hard to imagine little fishes as a cog in the capitalistic machine that doesn't care about the health of those fish when they are just little guys. They are just so little..

Where do the fish people of tumblr get your information from?

This morning has been disappointing. I've finally got the money to stock my fish tank that's been sitting, cycled, but devoid of fish for the last 18 months, last week I got some cardinal tetras to go in it because I'm doing an upper Negro biotope type thing. They seem to be doing well, and though cardinals aren't my favourite fish, they've brought my a lot of joy.

But they were really just a prelude to the main event: ordered 11 days ago but arriving this morning was a pair of Apistogramma gephyra, perfect for the system I'm trying to replicate, gorgeous and small. I have been chewing the walls for the last week waiting for them to arrive, even though I knew it was going to be today. Just look at this photo from the seller's website!

Opened the box, pulled out the first bag ready to stare lovingly at my new fish and...why are their tails like that? I mean, apistos famously change colour a lot but the tail is square, and orange-red.

They've sent me a pair of A. macmasteri "red" by accident. A fine fish I'm sure, clearly a lot of people like them, and they're the same price so it's not like the sellers are trying to rip me off. Tbh they're by far a more popular fish than gephyra.

Unfortunately I personally don't care for macmasteri, but beyond that they're from the Rio Meta, a whitewater river, while my tank is distinctly blackwater (conductivity of "lol no", pH somewhere south of 5.0, it's basically just slightly grubby RO). And apistos are noted to be territorial with not just their own species, but others in the genus so I can't just get some gephyra too now without having to send those back, which...shipping fish is a pain and not one I'm set up for. I'll see what the seller says but suffice to say I'm disappointed, went from giddy with excitement to dejected in seconds.

Sorry for the wait! I haven't had time to do a collection deep dive in a bit :P

But I absolutely do! I think you've already seen this sheet, which I believe is my only sheet of exclusively sharks (and it is marvelous). I've also posted this guy, and he's just cute :] I thought I had a few more things posted already, but Tumblr's search engine is... Trying its best.

As for things not yet posted! This is the best of my shark-only individual stickers...

But I've got plenty of assorted sea creature sheets featuring sharks!

And while these guys don't have any sharks, they're still cool fish stickers :P

His name is Atlas and I love him, he’s a bit funny cause he likes to hang out right on the filter vent but it’s not strong enough to hurt him so he just sits there and leaves when he wants (almost gave me an aneurysm when I saw him do it the first time)

I really hope this doesn't jinx it, but I've been having a lot of fun (and energy!) cooking like I used to these past few days. I've been doing a lot of things from scratch again and I have been really enjoying it and it has helped down my anxiety a bit and made sure I'm eating better (i.e. more consistently). My husband and I are starting to introduce meat again after being vegetarian for 6 or 7 years, and we've started slow with just local chicken bone broth. I used it the other day to make potato wonton soup that my grandma used to make, along with steamed scallion buns. Then last night I had a lot of fun spending a good portion of the afternoon making a sesame quinoa slaw and french onion soup from scratch and they both turned out really well. Today I am planning to make homemade pasta and a white wine sauce I've been meaning to try because its supposed to be really easy and tasty.

Building up to eating meat again has been a bit of a mental challenge for me, and I feel a lot of conflicting feelings about it, but ultimately I am at a point where I am able to recognize that I tend to struggle with food and that adding it back in will mean I am giving my body the nutrients I have been lacking or scraping by without for years.
