Lo'ak x Omatikaya!Reader
Warnings: angst, suggestive language, cursing
Word count: 3,1k words
Notes: surprise!! here I am once more writing things outside of what I had planned to, but people have been asking for a Lo'ak story and you know me besties, I aim to please. I really loved writing Lo'ak in my Cardigan series, so I'm excited about this. enjoy x
Na'vi words used: ma 'ite - daughter; sa'nok - mother; skxawng - idiot; tsantu - good guy, txepvi - spark
next part (x)
He was sunshine, I was midnight rain He wanted it comfortable, I wanted that pain He wanted a bride, I was making my own name He stayed the same, all of me changed like midnight
You and Loâak have been friends for longer than you can remember. Literally. You couldnât remember becoming friends, because, as Neytiri loves reminding you both, your connection was immediate and permanent.
âDid you know, ma âite, that you and Loâak held hands for the first time when you had just been born? Yes, yes⊠he was just a few months old when we brought him by as you were born, and your little fingers wrapped around him when he reached out for you. You were so tiny, the most precious baby. And Iâm pretty sure my son fell in love with you that day.âÂ
âSAâNOK!âÂ
You laughed as Loâakâs face dropped in shock, and smiled almost bashfully as he shuddered when your fingers made contact with the freckles on his cheek, that shone brighter than they normally do, probably due to the deep contrast between them and the new shade of purple that signalled a beautiful blush, that you could never get used to, no matter how many times you have seen it through the years.Â
âOh, son, am I embarrassing you?âÂ
He huffed and got up from where he stood, and you joined in as all the family starting laughing at the beautiful boy that left the tent stomping, his tail swishing furiously behind him.Â
You scoffed softly and followed him, rolling your eyes as Spider made kissy noises and Neteyam chuckled to himself.Â
âWait up, skxawng.âÂ
âIâm so damn tired of being my familyâs clown.âÂ
âOh, LoâakâŠâ you caught up to him outside of the village, and took his hand in yours to stop him in his tracks. He didnât look at you, even as you manoeuvred around him to come face to face with this boy the you loved so much, this boy who knew you, who you knew, who will always be everything to you.
âYouâre nobodyâs clown, Lo'ak. We all love you so much, but you take things too seriously. It wouldnât be funny if you didnât get so upset about it. Whatâs so bad about your mother said? I think itâs sweet.â
Your hand trailed up his arm slowly, and you saw goosebumps appear in its wake, and you smiled at the reaction his body had to your touch. Your hand stopped as it reached his face, that you caressed, and his lips, lips that youâve dreamt about, that you loved the thought of, that you could feel on yours in dreams and wishful reveries. The same purple tint took over his features once more, and you couldnât help yourself, couldnât help the way your face inched closer to his, closer and closer, until your lips touched. It was so soft - the kiss, his lips, the feelings that enveloped you. It felt like home. He felt like home.Â
âI think youâre sweet. And I think I fell in love with you the day I was born, too. I think it's always been you, Loâak.âÂ
He could no longer be upset at his mother after that, not when her meddling led to the happiest day of his life.Â
Loâak loved watching you get ready for battle. How could he not, when your body, tall and supple, a body that had such grace and elegance to it, he felt everyone else in the world would be privileged to ever get to see, was now covered in war paint that complimented your blue skin so well. Orange and yellow lines travelled from your face to your neck, and Loâak stood there, mouth agape, once again needing to thank Eywa for whatever luck or happenstance brought you in his life.Â
You looked up at him, a mischievous gleam in your big yellow eyes, one that he knew too well, one that seemed ever-present on your face. This look and all it encompassed is why he called you what he did. Txepvi. Spark. His spark. As much as his family gave him grief about his own behaviour, about this recklessness and propensity to get himself into trouble, you were worse - much worse. Always looking for adventure, for danger, for adrenaline rushes that electrified your senses and set your body ablaze. You told him once that you needed it, needed this. That it made you feel alive. You always said there has to be more to life than sitting in the village every day, learning to weave, learning about plants and how to best combine them to make pastes and ointments. You were bored easily, bored of the same mundane, of the same routines, so you always looked for new ones. And you got exactly what you wanted when the Sky People returned.Â
Loâak knows you hated it, hated them, that you would have happily watched all of them die at your hands, but he also knew that deep down you loved it. Loved how each day was a new challenge, was a new opportunity to prove to yourself, and to him, and to the Oloâeyktan, that you were an asset, that you would be worthy of one day of being Neytiriâs successor, of your parentsâ legacy as warriors that gave their lives in the war that came to their doorstep so many years ago.Â
âI want you to mark me. You always bring me good luck. And I need it today. I want your hand on me, on my heart. I need a reminder of whatâs good in the world. Of whatâs mine.âÂ
Loâakâs heart was booming in his ears at your words. You have always been brave. You had a strong heart. You always knew your own mind, always knew what you wanted, who you wanted. And he still couldnât believe his luck that what you wanted was him. You pushed the bowl of paint towards him and eyed him expectantly, and he obliged you. He placed his five-fingered hand palm first in the bowl and watched as the paint dripped back in it as he removed it, trying to shake off the excess so it doesnât mess with the design already on your body. Trying to calm his thoughts, he placed his hand on your chest, right in between your breasts, and felt your own heart beating loudly against him, and he smirked, placated in knowing he wasnât the only one whose emotions were running wild, whose desires were pulsating through every fibre of his being.Â
âI still think itâs unfair you get to fight while I am still stuck being a spotter. Youâre younger than me, for fuckâs sake.âÂ
âIâm better than you, ma tsantu, how many times do I have to prove it to you?âÂ
He scoffed, and tugged at your beaded top until your lips connected, the white paint on your lips smudged and diffused now, coating his own, and he didnât care. He thought it was fair, that there were physical traces of you on him, coating his body like you did his being, his heart and soul. Your tongue traced his bottom lip and explored and he let you, meeting you halfway, a messy needy dance that left him panting and weak. He kissed you to shut you up, but now he was the one speechless. How did this always happen?Â
You pecked him once more, then moved to reapply the painting that had just been erased. He could hear the small smile in your voice as you spoke.Â
âYour father loves you. He doesnât want you to put yourself at risk. He doesnât want you to get hurt, and doesnât want Neteyam to get hurt trying to protect you, like he always does. He doesnât have the same compulsions with me. That's why you're a spotter and I'm not.âÂ
You grinned at him, your large, sharp canines coming into view, and he yelped a little as you directed them to his neck, biting on it until a sharp sting traveled through his body. You licked the blood that came out of the two small puncture wounds and he shuddered at your touch.Â
âCome, mighty warrior. Letâs go show them what happens when they mess with the Omatikaya.âÂ
It was surreal to you, how much life changed, how fast life changes. It seemed like yesterday that you were swinging through the trees of the Omatikaya forest, innocent and mild, just happy to exist, happy to be alive, happy that there was air in your lungs and sun shining through the leaves and hitting your bare skin, that soaked it all, that loved it, loved every ray, loved it all. You were different now, so different you could barely recognise yourself. You donât know if child you would have liked the current you⊠or vice versa. Current you wanted more. More than just the forest, more than just being, and existing peacefully, more than what every other Omatikaya seemed to be satisfied with. You wanted chaos, and pain. You wanted deep, earth-shattering experiences, you wanted life to course through your veins like ice water through the stream near the village. You wanted to fly and you wanted to fall, you wanted to be remembered, you wanted to be revered. You wanted everything.Â
You knew the Sullys would be angry at you for taking their son away again, for bringing him along with you on one of your unprompted and unplanned trips, where you just got on your ikran and didnât look back for days, until you discovered something new, something more than what you knew. It was your favourite thing to do, outside of what you were currently doing, limbs tangled with this boy that brought light to your life, and shivers down your spine.Â
âI canât believe this place. It might be the most beautiful thing Iâve ever seen, present company excluded, of course.â
You giggled and propped yourself up on your elbows, looking at the beach that surrounded your entire line of sight, on this beautiful small tropical island. You flew until you reached the Eastern Sea, and your sights both locked on this little slice of Paradise, that felt so isolated, so wild and untamed, so untouched by Naâvi or animals alike, and you knew this was the place to spend the night, with nothing but the endless stars watching over you. You never got to see the sky like this in the forest, so clear and unperturbed by all the trees obstructing the view - yet another reason you loved your little adventures.Â
âMy dadâs going to kill me when I get home, you know? And then heâll kill you.âÂ
âI know. But thatâs a problem for future me. Present me wants to swim in the ocean, and she wants you to join me. Sheâll show you a good time. You wonât think about your dad anymore by the end, I promise.âÂ
He growled lowly at your words, and followed you as you got up and ran into the water, diving for its depths, revelling in this feeling you hoped would never end, and in his presence, that quieted the tumult that was ever-present in your mind. You loved him. He was your home, your calm. He was the best thing in the world, and he was yours.Â
You felt nervous as Lo'ak entered your tent, a troubled, tearful look on his face, one that meant danger, one that meant hurt, for both of you.
âDad says we have to go. I have to go.âÂ
Your mind went blank at his words, a new feeling for you. You couldnât quite understand what he was telling you.
âGo? Go where?âÂ
âThe Metkayina. He says weâre to start a new life there.âÂ
âBut⊠but you canât go. Heâs the Oloâeyktan, heâs the Toruk Makto. You canât just up and leave us.âÂ
You watched as Loâakâs face changed from sorrow to anger, directed at you, at his father, at the world - you couldnât quite tell.Â
âDo you think I want to fucking go? Do you think I chose this? I donât get to choose what happens, none of us do, but this is happening.â
You felt tears pricking at your eyes painfully, but you couldn't shed them yet, not when it felt like there was still so much heartbreak still waiting to ambush you.
âSo youâre just going to leave me? Leave what we have behind?âÂ
His eyes softened at your words, as he approached you and his hands immediately found your face, the face he adored more than everything else in the world.Â
âOf course not. I could never leave you. I love you. Iâve loved you my whole life, I have dreamt about your life woven with mine for as long as I can remember. I have always known you were the one, the only one. I never had the courage to tell you, but you did. You told me, and you kissed me, and I am so grateful. So grateful that you chose me, so grateful that I get to know that youâre mine, that our children will be the best warriors this clan has ever seen, just like their mother is.âÂ
Your heart fluttered upon hearing his confession, and a smile swiftly replaced your deep frown and stubborn tears. You couldnât help tightening your arms around his waist and pulling his body into yours, until you felt every crevice, every indentation, every scar and mark on it, until you were so close you felt like you were becoming one, unable to ever be separated again.Â
âI donât understand, Loâak. What are you saying?âÂ
âI want you to come with me. You have to come with me. I canât live without you, and I know you feel the same. We have to be together, and this way we get to.â
It quickly felt like the world quieted around you, dead quiet, like a grave or an unopened tomb, like no life has ever touched it.
You have to come with me. I canât live without you.
You didnât notice your arms dropped sluggishly to your side until Loâak grabbed them and tugged at them, at you, trying to pull you out of your lethargic state.Â
âMa txepvi⊠please say youâll come. Please.â He was pleading now, anguish coating every word as he was pushing them out, and you felt it all, deep within your soul, you felt it overtaking you too, felt it killing you as you knew what you had to do, knew what you had to say.Â
âNo.â
As soon as the word escaped your lips, so did a pained sob escape Loâakâs.Â
âNo?âÂ
And there they were, the tears, the hot tears that stung each inch of your body they travelled down to, the tears that signified the end of childhood, the end of peace, the end of your life as you knew it, of happiness as you dreamt it.
âI canât, Loâak. You canât ask this of me. You know me, you know me better than anyone else. You want me to give up everything I have worked so hard for, everything I have yearned for, everything thatâs finally within my grasp, all of it, to come and be at the Metkayinaâs beck and call? To be a trainee again, to be useless again? To give up my bow, my motherâs bow, and pick up a spear, to give up my ikran, my sister, for some sea creature that will never compare?âÂ
He was crying, too, painfully tugging at your arms, hoping that by doing so, you wouldnât leave him, you would change your mind, you wouldnât do what he feared you would, what he always dreaded. He always wondered if he would ever be enough for you, and he was terrified that, each moment passed, it seemed as if he got his answer, the monstrous answer he didnât know if he could deal with.
âIâm asking you to be with me. Iâm asking you to love me the way I love you, I am asking you to give us a chance to grow old together.â
Â
The pain was shooting through your body like a lightning hit, powerful and all-consuming, and you felt as though you were going to drown in your own tears, and you would welcome it, welcome the sudden death, welcome the chance to be put out of your misery. This is what you wanted, you thought bitterly to yourself. You always wanted pain and hurt. You wanted to feel alive. Now you did. So alive it felt like death, it felt like your demise, it felt like everything and nothing, like the beginning and the end.
âI love you. I will always love you. And I am sorry. But I am more than this. I have more to give to the world, to this clan, than just myself to you. Someone has to stay behind and protect the people when your whole family is gone. Someone has to stay and fight. Thereâs still so much of the world Iâve yet to see, so much of myself I have yet to meet. I canât let you take that away from me, Loâak. Iâm sorry.âÂ
You didn't wait for his response as you removed your body from his grasp, that all of a sudden felt trapping, felt suffocating, and took off, leaving nothing but heartache and the shattered promises of a picture perfect future, of love and a shiny family, of a life worth living, but one that wasn't yours.
"Good job today. It's been tough dealing with the demons on our own, without our Toruk Makto, but you're doing great. You're indispensable to our clan, to this village. I hope you know that."
"I know, Tarsem. Thank you." you brought your fingers to your forehead and bode the new Olo'eyktan and the Tsa'hik a goodnight, and made your way out of the tent quietly.
This place felt empty in the months following their departure... his departure. You felt his absence in your every bone. You felt it in the loneliness that haunted you every night, in your body that ached for his touch and warmth, in your mind that never knew peace, not anymore. You wondered if he felt the same. If he ever thought about you, about what you had. You wondered if he's doing well, adapting well, if he found himself a girl, quiet and beautiful, smart and kind, that wanted everything you didn't, that was able to fill the hole you left behind. You hoped he did. You hoped he didn't.
I guess sometimes we all get Just what we wanted And I never think of him Except on midnights like thisÂ

Numb
Thatâs all you felt, your whole body numb to the touch. Felt like you were floating, skin no longer touching the ground, only the stiff breeze that would ghost through you. You werenât even sure if you were breathing at this moment.
EclipseÂ
It taunted you as your eyes stared at the heavens above. Cold, wet tears streamed down your dull blue cheeks, while another dull blue face stared lifelessly at the darkened sky. Lifeless eyes that used to hold so much love and admiration within his glowing golden eyes.
Shaking
Your body was shaking, hands unable to stop the tremors that reached your fingertips. Lips quivering as you tried to hold back the scream that wanted to rip from your throat, the whimpers of pain that built up in your chest, and were just waiting for the scale to completely tip before you crumble.
The waves were crashing loudly against your boulder, it almost felt like they were shaking your rocky asylum. There were only four bodies stationed on the jagged stone along with a burning fire in the near distance. Everything felt like a realistic nightmare, something your mind conjured to tear you away from the sugary sweet dreams that you would slip into. But this wasnât a nightmare or dream, this was reality. Something you constantly had to remind yourself before your brain could trick you into ignorance.
There was a ringing in your downturned ears that soon started to pick up choked sobs that flicked your ears at attention. You looked away from the darkened sky and down at your three companions.
Neteyam. Once alive and full of energy, gentle touches, and commanding tones were all left behind and just a corpse with his head laying on your lap was left behind. One hand cradled his cheek, wishing to feel movement or heat while the other brushed his braids, something you always did when he rested his head on your lap. You wished to see his easy smile one more time, just for a moment, you needed the image fresh in your brain.
Tsireya was the one quietly crying, her hands holding onto Neteyamâs legs. You wanted to comfort the girl, this is probably the first time sheâs had to feel the pain of losing a close relationship, the Metkayina clan not forced to see the horror of war every day for the past few years. She was a sweet girl, a caring soul, she didnât deserve to witness this pain.
Loâak was the last one of your group. He was staring toward the burning and drowning ship, you werenât sure why, but taking note that Jake and Neytiri were missing, along with Spider, Kiri, and Tuk not around; the only answer you could think of was the ship. He dropped to his knees, eyes staring down at his dark red palms, palms covered in Neteyamâs blood as he tried to save him. He took another look at the ship before facing you and Tsireya.
âI- I have to- I have to help them.â Loâak took stuttering breaths.
You saw Tsireya shake her head, barely heard the pleas for Loâak to stay on the rock with the thre- with the two of you. But you knew Loâak, you knew that even if his dad told him to stay, he would follow him to the ends of Pandora, just like Neteyam did with him.
He knelt in front of the shaking girl, a hand coming up to hold her cheek for a second before he walked to you. Both hands rested at the side of your head, his fingers seeping into your braids with his extra finger touching your jaw.
âIâll be back. I promise.â Neteyam used to tell you that all the time when he was allowed a position in the raids.
Loâak pulled your head forward and his lips met your forehead, and they were held there for almost a minute before he pulled away and jumped off the rock and into the crashing waves. Leaving behind two shaking and emotionally wrecked girls that held onto a corpse of a friend and loved one.
âHeâll be back,â you choked out to Tsireya, âtheyâll all be back.â Reassuring the both of you, needing just that tiny bit of hope to stay above the dangerous waves. Your hand continued its comforting motion of pushing Neteyamâs braids from his face.

Pandora forest
Your feet jumped from branch to branch, the ground below leaving behind a trail of bioluminescent spots before they disappeared. Light chuckles floated from your parted lips and into the open air, the breeze able to carry the sound further out. The nightlife of the forest filled your ears, something youâll never get used to, in a good way.
You slowed down after having ran and leaped for a while, needing a minute to take in your surroundings. Your chest moved up and down pretty fast with your mouth panting for air, and fists landing on your hips to rest. Your ears flicked at each little noise, but you were trying to find the specific sound you wanted to hear, nose twitching in the air for the right scent combo.
A twig snapped and you knew already you found him. You crouched down, body low to the bark as you followed the direction the noise came from, not wanting to spook your target. You jumped to a branch below yours and surveyed the surrounding flora. You grabbed your bow and nocked an arrow in the string and waited with bated breath for any new signs. Another twig snapped, the opposite direction you just came from, you were on high alert now.
You counted in your head, to keep your heart steady and to count when the next noise might occur. It wasnât until twenty did another sound appear, this one much closer now. You thought you were ahead in the game but looked like you just lost so you put away your arrow and sat on the soft moss, waiting for the boy.
Lost in your thoughts, staring ahead into the open air, the feeling of two hands landing on your shoulders almost made you jump and that would end up resulting in your possible death due to gravity.
âI win.â A high-pitched voice spoke into your ear.
âNeteyam!â You twisted to look at his boyish grin, âdonât sneak up on me! Iâve told you multiple times!â
He just laughed at your raised voice and moved to sit beside you, thighs touching and fingers just an inch away from touching. You wanted to make a move but were too scared so you stayed content with your slim fingers ghosting near the other.
It was well past the eclipse and both you and Neteyam knew you shouldnât be running around in the forest at night, but it was always so peaceful and sometimes the only time either of you could be alone together without parents or siblings hovering or clan duties getting in the way.
The two of you could just get lost in nature and each other and it was the most magical thing you got to experience.
âAre you excited for tomorrow?â You voiced to the silence.
It took a minute before he responded, ânervous, but yes. Iâm excited.â His pinky tapped yours.
Tomorrow a couple of young hunters would complete their iknimaya and finally earn their ikrans and then later that night they would go through uniltaron, the dream hunt. You originally were going to join Neteyam in the rites of passage, but you felt you werenât prepared enough, so you decided to wait a bit longer. At first, you were embarrassed to tell Neteyam that you were going to take longer, but he reassured you that it was completely fine and that he was proud of you with either decision you made. It made your heart grow with love.
âShould probably head back. Long day ahead of you.â You stood from your seated position and threw your bow over your shoulders, waiting for Neteyam to follow your actions.
You looked down when you noticed he was still seated and to your shock he was already looking up at you, an easy smile adoring his stunning features. He did look like his mother, a stunning woman with a strong will and a loyal heart.
âWhat?â You whispered the question.
He gave a light shake of his head, his smile never fading, ânothing. Just⊠just appreciating.â And he grabbed his bow and stood up, eyes level with each other. Both standing at around six feet and a few inches, neither hitting your growth spurt yet. You donât know how youâll feel when Neteyam is taller than you one day, even if it's just by an inch or two.
The two of you stood face to face, no one talking, only watching. Eyes danced over the other's features, memorizing every stripe and every glowing dot gracing their blue skin. If you could freeze time, you would do it at this moment, not wanting to leave the quiet night. You so badly wanted to reach up and caress Neteyamâs cheek but held yourself.
Instead, you cleared your throat and broke eye contact, ârace you home?â And the smile he flashed gave you your answer and you took off without a warning.
Giggles and shrieks of joy followed you two home all the way, music to your ears.
-
You were still numb, your ears were still ringing, and your stomach grumbled but you wouldnât touch a single fruit. It still didnât feel real, none of this felt real. The battle was over, the injured were being tended to, and families were reuniting with tears and hugs. But your family, your family was grieving and preparing for a funeral that none of you thought would come for many moons in the future.
You just sit in a corner with your knees pulled up to your chest, arms wrapped tightly around them, your head resting atop the joints, staring into the void. You havenât moved from the tiny spot since you all came back to your pod, Jake and Neytiri leaving with Neteyamâs body to bring to Ronal and have him prepared for his final living goodbye. Kiri and Tuk were huddled together in another area of the pod, Tuk sitting in her lap with Kiri stroking her hair and whispering soft words. Loâak sat outside with his feet in the water. He probably wished Tsireya was with him but she was pulled away by her family to help with preparations. You wanted to be there for him, someone needed to be there for him, he thought Neteyamâs death was his doing when it wasnât; it was the sky peopleâs war that did it.
You finally found that bit of strength to move, Loâak needed someone at this moment and you knew Neteyam would want his brother to know that he loved him. With cracked joints you finally moved from your spot, arms wrapped around your waist for a phantom comfort and you walked slowly towards Loâaksâ hunched figure. Your feet stop just a few steps away from him, just watching how his back muscles moved with his breathing, how his head would move slightly when he would focus on something else.
You didnât say anything as you sat next to him. He didnât say anything as his eyes took notice of your appearance. No one said anything, just two sets of golden eyes staring out at the dimming sky that was slowly dipping into the endless ocean.
You took the first step, one arm reaching out to gently touch the bicep close to you and then you slowly glided the hand down his arm until your palm fell atop his knuckles. Your four fingers settled in the open space between his five digits, a light squeeze was all you gave, but still no words.
âIâm sor-â âItâs not your fault. None of it.â You immediately stopped him.
Silence once again.
Hands still touching.
Waves playfully pushing and pulling.
You leaned your head against his shoulder, Loâaks falling atop yours after a second. Then you moved your hand off his and threw it around his waist with your other following, wanting to give him warm physical comfort. Knowing a hug was something he needed at this moment, to feel grounded, to feel loved, to feel seen.
An abrupt cough makes your head turn over your shoulders. Jake and Neytiri stood in the opening, both their faces littered with cuts and stitches, eyes darker and dull. You pulled away from Loâak and stood from your spot, walking over to the two taller naâvi.
âWe must prepare.â Was all Neytiri said before holding her hand out.

High camp
The air was thick with tension, everyone on high alert for the day, no, not just the day. Everyone has been on alert for the past two years.
The sky people have brought war back to Pandora, back to the Omitikaya people and your home. The demons bring fire to burn the trees and flora, to bring extinction to the animals that roam freely. Their metal weapons are much stronger than your bows, and many people die or are injured each day during a raid or battle.
Jake Sully is very high-strung, heâs quick to snap at someone out of line, and even more angered when the people heâs yelling at are his children. Neteyam and Loâak stand with their tails between their legs and heads tilted down, Neteyam receiving the harsher words that struck his heart.
You would watch from afar, hands rubbing your banshee in comforting motions as your heart broke at the pain written across their faces. You just waited, waited until Neteyam was dismissed by his father and he would head immediately to find you and distract you with his pretty smile.
âHow is palĂŻ?â His own hands stroked down the side of her neck, soft purrs heard from her throat. You chuckled, âhappy now that you are here.â Just like you were happier he was now with you.
Your smile dropped just a bit when you remembered a few minutes ago, âis everythingâŠis everything okay?â His hand slowed then stopped before dropping to his side, eyes facing away from you.
âJust Loâak doing dumb shit again and me getting my head ripped off for not keeping a close eye on him.â âHmm.â
Men and Women were moving to and fro in the caved holding. Some were slow with their heads bent down as they conversed with the person beside them, or warriors carried their bows with their heads held high as they rushed past everyone. People were going in and out of Moâatâs tent, many exiting with wrappings covering wounds they gained during the war effort. You could hear the faint sounds of ikrans screeching in the distance mixed with the gleeful giggles of naâvi children.
âWould you like to go somewhere quiet?â You abruptly asked.
Neteyamâs ears twitched at your question, eyes widening just a bit but then softening with a tiny curve of his lips. A meek nod was all you needed before you wrapped a hand around his wrist and pulled him behind you and further into the cool mountain. It was a small area further back, the shadows helping in keeping the carved-out piece a secret to one who isnât curious, but you were one curious cat.
Since your parent's passing, you would travel through high camp in silence, a ghost among the living just trying to survive by yourself. You lived with the Sullyâs since they were like a second family to you, but being around them, seeing the love they have for each other and how much they care about everyoneâs well-being, it just twisted your heart. So at night when everyone was asleep and the camp was quiet, you would sneak out and roam around, just needing to be alone and wallow in pain and you needed to find a place within the camp where you could step into the shadows and disappear just for a few hours. And you found it.
With Neteyam still being pulled behind by you when you abruptly stopped, his chest ran into your back making the both of you stumble for a moment. Light giggles escaped without thought before you reluctantly let your grip slide from his skin, but you didnât get far before Neteyam reached out on his own and intertwined your hands together.
You felt warm all over at the simple action.
âMa âteyam, Iâve- Iâve been missing you. As of late.â You dipped your head down, flustered at the sudden words leaving your mouth. It wasnât a declaration of love, though it was in your ears.
âIâve been missing you too, ma tanhĂŹ (my star)â Almost a whisper to the winds was his reply, but a whisper that blew near your ear making it twitch at the caressing touch.
Involuntarily your eyelids fluttered closed and a breathy sigh left your chest. The silence only grew in tension when a finger was hooked under your chin and pushed your face up, eyes focusing in on the speckles of glowing dots dancing along Neteyamâs face and body. Your own personal sky of stars to gaze upon.
â(Y/n), thereâs something Iâve been wanting to confess to you for some time now. But it seems you gave me the perfect opportunity, and I will try to say the words before they evade my mind.â His thumb swiped over your chin, along with a swift feeling of him touching your bottom lip before it was gone too soon.ïżœïżœ All you could do was tilt your head with your eyes firmly set on Neteyamâs, waiting intently to hear whatâs been on his mind for this long.
He licked his lips, eyes moving side to side, âas you know itâs been a while since Iâve become one of the People.â Another simple nodding of your head, âI as well.â
âYes. And we both have fashioned our bows out the branches of the home tree, both of us mighty warriors and aiding our clan in a time of crisis-â âNeteyam Iâm well aware of these events. Iâm living through them, along with them added to my songcord.â A mindless giggle showed your delight in this scene.
Neteyam gave a huff, âyes, yes. Now if youâll allow me to speak before I lose my small ounce of bravery-â âYes, sorry. Continue⊠sorry.â
A hand still twinged with yours and his thumb ran over the back of your hand, âSince weâve become one of the People, and crafted our bows, the only thing left is to⊠is to find a mate.â You sucked in a breath.
He wanted to find a mate.
You understood, courting could take months and usually youâre not officially mated before Eywa until you are a full-fledged adult, so there was still plenty of time for the both of you. But hearing that heâs thinking of someone who he wants to court, hurts like a knife being twisted between your ribs.
âHave⊠have you,â you had to swallow past the thump in your throat, âhave you already chosen. The one you wish to begin courting?â You needed to step away from Neteyamâs intoxicating self.
You tried stepping away discreetly, but before you were even two steps away Neteyam pulled you right back in, even closer than before. Toe to toe, chest to chest, your whole body so close to touching but only an inch of air separated your bodies from molding together. The hold he had on your hand didnât loosen, only held tighter, like he was scared you could run away at any moment. During this discussion, you wished to vanish into the forest and not come back until sunrise.
âI have. Iâve had my eye on her for years, long before my rites of passage. Sheâs very special to me, someone whoâs been by my side through many of my hardships, lifting me back up to the light from the darkness I was walking towards.â His eyes stayed on your linked hand, âshe is beloved by my family, each one of them having a special relationship with her already, so I donât have to worry about them turning her away,â he breathed a laugh. âShe is a fine warrior, her skills growing each day, and might even surpass my saânok (mother) one day.â
Neteyam took the final step. Hands squished between your bodies, your chest touching, and every breath you took caused your top to brush against Neteyamâs chest and move it out of place just a hair. Your breaths mingled with your lips in front of each other, it took every last bit of strength within you to keep your eyes trained on his face rather than his tempting lips.
âNeteyam-â âI hope you are understanding what Iâm trying to say.â
Your will broke and your eyes dropped before meeting his eyes again, âI think it best if you say it aloud. Iâm a bit thick in the head.â A comment Neteyam has made to you before.
He wetted his lips, â(Y/n), ma tanhĂŹ (my star), would you allow me the honor of courting you, to eventually in the near future, become my mate for life?â He almost vibrated with energy, nervousness or anticipation, or even both was your conclusion.
âNeteyam, ma atan (my light), I would cherish nothing more and it would be a pleasure to become your mate.â
-
The air felt still, thick that you almost suffocated from a simple intake of air. The water felt still, even though you rode on the back of your ilu, ripples following the creature. It felt like everyone was holding their breath, worried that even the most simple release of air would cause something further to shift in the world. But nothing worse could happen, not in your mind, your worst nightmare came true and you still canât process it.
Jake and Neytiri were at the front of your group with Tuk seated behind her mother, Loâak and Kiri with Spider behind followed up the rear and you were at the very back. Everyone was painted with white stripes down their face, Neytiri fashioned with a woven headpiece and the necklace Neteyam wore when he died. A hand went to your neck, another intricate woven piece of jewelry that Neteyam would wear, it also happened to be the one he wore the night he asked to court you.
The tears dripped down your face, you didnât make an effort to wipe them away, they would just keep coming.
Many of the Metkayina stood in the shallow waters of the Cove of Ancestors, further away from your family. You saw the familiar faces near the front, the Oloâeyktan and the TsahĂk, both of them stood tall and held themselves high. You saw the tear-stained faces of Tsireya and Aoânung along with Roxo just off to the side of the leaders.
The ilu tugging Neteyamâs leaf finally stopped at its designated spot, silently telling all of you that this was the end. Jake, Neytiri, Tuk, and Loâak slid off their creatures and into the water, treading themselves on each side of his body, his mother and sister on the left with his father and brother to the right. You so badly wanted to join them, wanted to touch the boy you loved so badly one final time before his body was taken away from the physical plane. But you stayed back, you werenât his mate, you were just the girl he was courting, his girlfriend- something that Jake said was between the stages of friend and mate; you were just a friend that left their home behind for a boy that stole your heart and made you a part of a loving and protective family.
So it was just you, Kiri- who you thought should have joined the others but didnât push her into it, and Spider who watched his blood-related family give their final caresses to his skin. The kisses to his forehead by Neytiri, the fingers reaching out to his for the hand that rested atop his shoulder then a feather-light touch to his cheek by Tuk, the hand that patted down Neteyamâs tied back braids by Loâak- something Neteyam used to always do on the younger boy, and Jake. Jake, who still seemed in shock, that he didnât make for a comforting gesture.
Once Neteyam was free of the giant palm leaf, Tuk and Loâak moved further back to where the three of you stayed. Jake and Neytiri shared a look before taking their breath and diving under the water with Neteyam between them.
You slid off the ilu saddle and floated on the right side of Loâak, Tuk as always was beside Kiri if it wasnât her mother. With the water stinging your eyes just a bit, you watched as Jake and Neytiri swam down, down, down until they were just above the glowing anemone and they released their hold on their boy. They kept themselves afloat while his body succumbed to gravity or the pull toward the Great Mother, and once they touched his deep blue skin, he was covered in golden glowing light before his body was completely gone.
If you werenât submerged under water you knew the tears would be running at the speed of a waterfall, your nose clogging with snot, and your throat choking up causing hiccups and stuttering to your breath. With a glance to your left, the sight before you broke you even further. Loâak, with his left hand, held out for his brother to take, was choking out sobs that were silenced by the water, only the air bubbles leaving his open mouth told you of his cries to the Great Mother.Â
Swiftly you reached out and linked your hands together, he needed someone to ground him from slipping away and you just needed to feel living flesh.
-
You couldnât sleep, sleep had been avoiding you for weeks since your arrival to Awa'atlu, always tossing and turning on your mat. Eventually, you started to leave the mauri when the darkness would slip away through your fingers, finding yourself either sitting on the roped walkway with your feet swaying in the water or you would venture towards the sandy beaches and stare out into the open water.
You werenât sure when he noticed your absence, but one night when you walked to the beach, you heard footsteps that were muffled by the grains on the floor and the push and pull of the water. Your heart rate picked up, you didnât have any weapons on your person, and you chose to leave your knife with the others. But your panic died down when you saw the noise coming from someone who wouldnât lay a harmful finger on you, but for sure would punch someone just looking at you wrong.
âMa âteyam.â You all but sighed as he got closer.
He instantly pulled you into his arms, one arm around your waist and the other pushing your head into the crook of his neck. Your limbs wrapping tightly along his waist, your hearts beating as one, chest to chest. Fingers started to run through the free strands of your black hair, tiny circles by the pads of his digits.
âWhat is wrong ma tanhĂŹ?â He murmured by your pinned back ear.
You huffed a sigh, unintentionally tickling his skin, âsleep escapes me. No dreams enter my mind, only darkness and even that leaves me to my thoughts.â
He hummed, hands continuing their rhythmic motions, giving your bodies a light sway with the wind. Then he just stopped, hands landing on your biceps giving a light push away. His eyes held so much love within his tender gaze, âwhy donât we go for a swim? We could star gaze, we haven't done it for a while.â And an instant smile split your face.
The two of you floated on your backs in the middle of the water, the water safe within the mauri pods. The quiet night was the only thing surrounding the both of you, the water was still with only a few ripples here and there causing a push to your bodies. Your backs floated atop the darkened water, hands clasped together to keep from drifting apart, braids and loose strands snaking around your heads as two sets of golden yellow eyes focused on the glowing stars above.

One Year Later
The memory vanished into the air from your mind, and the last thing you felt was your heart growing warm at the sight of Neteyamâs breathtaking smile before he pulled the both of you into the cool water.
Your legs were hugged to your chest with your thin arms wrapped around them tight, your chin digging into your kneecaps while your eyes stared out into the open water. You thought about going in, either to look at the stars as if he was floating beside you or to drown yourself and join him with the Great Mother. You knew the latter would win more in this situation, so you kept yourself grounded and forced your mind to go blank, the lull in the water helps.
You shifted a hand through the sand beside you, the texture feeling nice on your skin. Eventually, you got bored, but you didnât want to head back, so you just laid down and let the scratchy grains cling to your skin and burrow into your hair. You turned on your side, back facing the homes with you facing the swaying trees, but you let your imagination run.
You pretended that you were lying beside Neteyam, both facing each other with only an inch of separate space. A hand from both of you resting in the middle, fingers doing a mindless dance of touching and curling, bringing smiles to your faces. You would move closer, your hand that lay on the ground would make contact with his stomach, and his muscles would flex automatically with the graze. Neteyam would move his head closer, a quick bump of your nose, giggles spilling from your lips. He would throw an arm over your waist, knuckles gliding along your back, and you would lift your hand from the ground, let your palm rest upon his plump cheek, and thumb would stroke the stripes decorating his skin. And you would clear the final milometer of air, lips a breath away, you would look into his piercing eyes and with all the bravery you could muster, would whisper the words only meant for his ears.
âNeteyam⊠ma âteyam⊠I see-â
â(Y/n)?â
Your hand dropped from the air and sunk into the cool sand, you didnât even bother to turn and face the approaching voice, you already knew who it was. It was always you and one other person who would leave the home for hours and wallow in pain.
You felt his body heat, skin just barely flicking over yours. You felt his eyes on you, you knew they would drip with pity and pain for you, and you didnât want it. You were a mighty warrior, you withstood your cuts and bruises and persevered in the battle, even your mental ones.
â(Y/n)... Iâm here- I-â âLoâak. Stop.â You closed your eyes, the tears making a comeback. You still kept your back to Loâak, not finding the mighty warrior in yourself to withstand this battle, instead shrinking away from the fight.
He didnât say anything again, you didnât say anything again, and the silence enveloped the bubble. With the sound of shuffling you thought he got up and headed back to sleep, probably knowing how guarded you are these days, but he didnât leave he walked around you and laid beside you.
With the past year, youâve closed yourself off, built a stone wall high to the heavens, and wrapped around the world. Only allowing small slips into the cracks, sea shell collecting with Tuk, enjoying the flora and fauna with Kiri, weaving baskets and jewelry with Neytiri in the mauri, and youâll do whatever you can find with Jake. With Loâak, there was something that pulled the both of you a tiny bit closer. Be it the Great Mother, grief, Neteyam, or all of it together, you and Loâak always found each other in times of comfort.
You peeked your eyes open, Loâak watching your every breath, an arm pillowing his head with the other hand in the open space. It felt weird that he was in the same position you imagined Neteyam, but you didnât think anything of it.
â(Y/n), I miss him. I miss my big brother.â Loâakâs voice was small, cracking on the words him and brother.
You didnât speak, something you often did these days, you just linked your sandy hands together. You gave a squeeze knowing it would silently say to him, âI miss him tooâ.
BeforeâŠeverything, you were a pretty touchy person. At least when you were super close and comfortable around the individual. And because you were comfortable around the Sullys you would express your love through all forms, touch sometimes being the easiest with the quick access. But after- after he was gone, you reclined into yourself, like you were waining off the feeling of naâvi skin. But Loâak was someone you felt naturally drawn to just touch, and it made you hurt because you always felt that way about Neteyam. Sometimes you didnât want to be separated for even a second, needing to have a finger touching or your tail grazing by his legs.
You were worrying a bit that Loâak might be taking your intimate moments, your touches as something they werenât. You loved Loâak, but only as a brother. Neteyam always filled the spaces in your heart. Friend, partner, âgirlfriendâ⊠future mate, your future husband. No one could fill those holes, theyâll always be empty until you die.
âHave you visited?â
You blinked your eyes, focusing back on the present. Loâak was just watching you, waiting for some type of response to his question. You heard him, faintly, but still heard.Â
You didnât say anything, the quiet your nonverbal answer.
âI havenât either,â his thumb ran over your knuckles, âIâm too scared.â
âWhy scared?â A hushed whisper.
He shrugged, âmight argue with me or something. Tell me itâs my fault, which is t-â
âFalse. Sky people are at fault.â A constant reminder from you to him.
Silence once again. Talking always takes too much energy for you.
âWould you be willing to visit him, together?â Loâaksâs question drifted into the air.Â
âWhen we are ready, we will go. Together.â
-
Two Years Later
âI would like to visit Payakan.â
Loâak sat up from his lying position and looked down at you, his head blocking the blinding sun rays. You just peered up at him, face completely neutral.
âW-why?â His feathered brows furrowed, âitâs not safe.â
You cocked your head, striped brow raised, ânever stopped you before.â A ghost of a smile mixed with some teasing.
Loâak scuffed and rolled his eyes at the remark, but you saw the smile. He looked at the open water for a moment before looking back at you. You could see the tiny gears turning in his head, probably weighing some pros and cons to your proposal.
He stood up and held a hand out, his answer to your request.
With a firm grasp, you let him pull you to your feet, his growing muscles pulling you against the gravity causing a light crash with your chests meeting. His free arm wrapped tight around your back to keep you from stumbling, it caused your breath to stutter and get caught in your throat before you cleared it.
âLead the way, mighty warrior.â A quirk of your head caused Loâak to move, arm off your waist but the hand still held in yours.
He called his ilu with a yelp and grabbed the saddle. You didnât bother calling yours, you still werenât the best at riding even after living here for two years. Neteyam usually helped with your teaching and would have you ride with him when going out. You didnât bother with learning further, not wanting to explore without him.
â(Y/n),â Loâak grabbed your bicep, âcome on.â
He slid on the saddle with you just behind. His left hand holding the bar tight before looking over his shoulder and tapping your thigh with his right hand, âhold on tight. Breathe deep.â And he went under.
The crystal clear water past the reef felt like a whole new world. Almost nothing for the eye to see except for a few rocks that broke the surface, but other than that everything was below the surface.
âWhereâs Payakan?â You whispered in his ear, it twitched against your nose.
âUh, should be around here. Sometimes he finds me before I do.â His head looked side to side, trying to find the giant tulkun in the vast ocean.
You wrapped your arms around Loâakâs abdomen and leaned your head between his shoulder blades. Your ear could faintly hear this heart beating as he touched your forearm with his fingers, his heart speeding up just a bit.
âIs Payakan friendly?â Voice slightly muffled.
âYeah. As long as you donât provoke him or offend him. But heâs my spirit brother, heâll accept you happily.â
âThe sea gives and the sea takes.â Words you heard from Tsireya during lessons.
Your heart lurched at the phrase. Loâak lost Neteyam to the rocky seas with a fire burning in the distance but gained a Metkayina spirit brother in the calm and clear seas. Eywa must keep a balance of life, but this wasnât a balance.
âOh! (Y/n), look!â He eagerly tapped your arm and pointed to the horizon.
In the blink of an eye, a tulkun appears before the both of you, its eyes watching intently. It made some noises of communication, out of happiness or a threat, you couldnât tell. But Loâak happily slid from the saddle and swam beside his eye and gave a very open hug to the creature. Its eyes closed and hummed a higher pitch, happy.
â(Y/n), come.â Loâak held a hand out for you.
You quickly joined the two, Loâakâs hand moving to place yours along the tough skin of the animal. A smile was pulled at your lips, you werenât sure why, but you didnât think too hard about it. You felt extremely happy for the first time in two years and youâll absorb the feeling into your bones.
âPayakan, this is (Y/n). Sheâs part of my family.â
âHello. Loâak speaks very highly of you. Iâm grateful for the opportunity to meet you.â Your hand moved in soothing circles.
Another higher-pitched hum, âhe likes you.â
Your attention away from Payakan focused on Loâak. He sat on the floating fin, hips and lower half submerged in the water with his torso and up dry. He held a delicate smile on his lips, small indents on either side. His eyes which were already focused on you looked gentle, his lids dropped just a bit, and his golden irises held a tiny spark.
It caused a shiver to run along your spine.
-
Three Years Later
Your lower half sat in the shallow waters of the beach. Water pushing and pulling, lapping at your body giving a gravitational pull, a pull that you resisted each time. Your hands would dance atop the surface, palms skimming the pleasant texture and fingers doing quick taps that cause a tiny plop.
You watched with fondness as Kiri lay on her stomach with her body submerged below the clear waters. One arm kept her upper body from dropping into the sand while the other ran through the still grains. Something so simple and she was mesmerized, you loved it.
With a turn of your head, you noticed two figures further down the beach, one teal and the other blue. Tsireya and Loâak. They were sitting beside each other, you couldnât tell much about their conversation, neither giving off blatant expressions. They seemed to be making jewelry or carving, maybe both, each doing their own thing while just wanting to enjoy the other's company.
They looked happy, at peace. You felt glad for them.
âThey make a good couple.â Kiriâs sudden voice causes you to jump a bit. You just nodded, âthey do. Maybe theyâll mate when older. Heâs been into her since we arrived.â
You couldnât help but smile at the memory.
Everyone is tired and wishing for rest, hoping they grant uturu to your family. Neteyam and you automatically stand beside each other, fingers grazing as you walk to the formed crowd. With your curious eyes, you try and take in everything around you, from the people to the village, and it amazed you. And then with the perfect timing, you noticed a girl slipping into the water before making her way to the shores, and you heard a slight gasp. With a slight turn of your head, you noticed how Loâak couldnât take his eyes off her, he was instantly fixated on the beauty.
You bumped your hand against Neteyamâs calling for his attention.
âIt seems your brother has found a potential mate,â a quick chuckle, âif they allow.â Was all Neteyam followed up with.
â(Y/n), did you hear me?â Kiriâs fingers dug into your ribs.
You shifted away from a potential second attack, âno. Sorry, a memory came to mind.â
You ignored the eye roll she gave, âI said, but it seems like Loâak might have affection for someone new.â
A furrow came to your brows, âwhere are you hearing this? Do you not see the way he acts around Tsireya? He acts like a skxawng about⊠ninety percent of the time, and thatâs just now. It used to be a bit higher.â
She licked her lips and her eyes dipped to the ground before meeting yours, âthereâs something differentâŠin the way, he looks at- his eyes hold something when he gazes upon you.â You couldnât believe the words leaving Kiriâs mouth, âhis eyes hold something when he gazes upon you.â She was wrong, simply wrong.
âYou are wrong.â You shook your head at her absurdity, âLoâak doesnât see me as anything other than another sister.â
She huffed, â(Y/n), I donât know if you ever knew this, but when Loâak was younger he would tell me how he admired you. You probably thought nothing of it, but he would try to follow you around like a lost direhorse. I noticed the tiny scowls that came upon his face when Neteyam would steal away your attention. Plus heâs the only one youâre physically affectionate with besides-â
âIâm affectionate with all of you. Neteyam was extra special in my heart, he was my promised mate.â You started to get defensive.
She placed a hand on your shoulder, âyes, I understand. I just notice how the two of you hold each other in the night, Loâak holds you firmly to his chest with his arm over your waist and you will have your face tucked under his jaw.â
Your ears twitched, âIâm just trying to say, be careful. The both of you. Someone is gonna get hurt, and weâre just starting to heal our wounds.â Were her last wise words before standing up and walking away.
-
Three Years and Five Months Later
âI want to go to the cove and see Neteyam.â
You turned your head to the side, and bits of sand scratched your skin. Loâak kept his eyes on the sky, hands clasped over his stomach. You looked away when he didnât meet your gaze.
âYou are ready?â
âNot really, but I need to see him again.â It seemed like he had more to say so you waited, âare you ready?â
This time you knew he looked at you, the movement caused your ears to twitch at attention.
âNo. But his face has started to blur and I lost the sound of his voice, his laugh. I miss it all, so it must be time.â You pushed off the ground and hunched over your legs.
His hand touched your back and you flinched before relaxing. Kiriâs words from a few months ago echoed in the back of your head. âIf you are not ready, we can wait. You said we would go together when the both of us are ready. Iâll wait for you.â
You peeked at Loâak, something about that last part struck a chord with you. You see how his brows were raised just a bit and pinched in the middle, eyes open and clear. Full of understanding and love.
You fear Kiriâs words are becoming true.
You licked your lips, âweâll go to the cove.â And you instantly stood up and walked away, Loâak following a step behind.
The both of you trod water for a bit once you reached the spirit tree, fully realizing that you're finally gonna see Neteyam again after three years. With a look to Loâak and a nod from him, the both of you took a breath and dove under and down.
As you stared at a tendril you started to think maybe you werenât ready to see him, but with your hand being tugged by Loâak, you pulled your queue from behind your back and let the moving tendrils be pulled closer until they connected with your mind.
..
You were back in the forest.
It was midday, and the bright sun held high in the clear blue sky, not a cloud in sight. The grass was a luscious green, soft beneath your bare and calloused feet. Helicoradian and Octoshroom stood at their tall heights, you hit a few helicoradian causing them to shrink in on themselves which brings a laugh of joy out of you.
You walk to the stream where you and Neteyam would usually hang out during the day when both of you were free to escape. As you get closer the sound of the rushing water causes your heart to speed up just a bit, youâve missed that sound for a while without even knowing.
When you entered the clearing, pushing a few low hanging leaves away from your face, your breath caught in your throat and you almost tripped over an unseen root. Head popping away from the rushing water and in your direction, Neteyam.
He hasnât aged a day, which, obviously. But it just causes you to freak out a bit, youâve grown three years, would he see you as past you or present you?
But focusing back on the boy youâve missed so much. His usual head of braids, feathers, and beads were missing, just a curtain of dark black strands falling over his face and shoulders, it must have been a washing day. Heâs also free of a necklace and armband, you notice his knife and bow are near the banks.
â(Y/n), come join me!â His voice made your chest rumble. Has it always been this deep?
âNo tricks?â You stepped closer.
âNo tricks,â he echoed back.
âAre you naked?â Hands at your hips.
He rolled his eyes, âobviously. Will you hurry up?â
âNĂŹhoet (perv), turn around first, skxawng.â
âWe are to be mated, Iâm allowed to see.â
âNot for a while, âevengan (boy). Turn.â
He put his hands up in surrender and turned, his toned back showing off his defined stripes. Quickly you stripped yourself of your feathered top and loincloth and rushed into the water with a splash.
You swam up to Neteyam who turned around at your disruption to the quiet. You kept your body under the water with just your head peeking free, your hair a halo behind you.
âIâve missed you, oeyĂ€ sayrĂŹp (my handsome).â A hand touched his cheek before pushing the free hair away. Needing to see all of him.
A hand fell atop the one resting on his cheek with his free one sitting along your jaw, thumb gliding with your stripes as his other three fingers dug into the root of your hair.
âIâm right here, oeyĂ€ sevin (my pretty).â
You teared up at that. He says heâs right there, but heâs not. You canât touch him or converse with him whenever you choose to, you have to make the journey to the spirit tree now just to see figments of memories you had with him. And it seems he doesnât even know heâs dead, so you canât tell him these qualms you have.
âMa tanhĂŹ, what hurts you?â Both hands hold your face, caged in his clasp.
You hold his wrist and close your eyes, the tears leaking from your waterline and down your cheek. You feel him wipe them away. You have to bite your lip to compose yourself.
His lips kiss your forehead, they linger and it breaks you even further. He pulled away and you said the words that have been lingering on your tongue.
âMa Neteyam, Oel ngati kameie (i see you).â
He smiled, that easy smile you always loved seeing, âI know.â And he pulled you close with the hands still on your face, and pressed his lips against yours.
-
Your eyes peeled open.
All you saw was the bright light of the tree with your queue still attached before you pulled it free. You turned your head to the left where Loâak was floating, he still seemed to be connected, his eyes closed and hand still held firmly in yours. You bit the skin of your bottom lip and squeezed your eyes shut.
This was the reason you waited to visit because you knew that when you saw him again, it would break you like the first time. He didnât get enough time with you, with his family, with himself. It wasnât fair, this was the cruelest thing Eywa has ever done to you.
With a pull to your arm, your legs automatically began scissor kicking you back to the surface. You took a gulping breath when you broke the surface, droplets of water running into your eyes and on your mouth, and your ears almost felt clogged. You pushed your heavy limps back to the ilu, biceps straining with the sudden weight before flopping on the saddle, ready to leave.
âYou okay?â Loâak asked as he saw beside the animal, left hand on the saddle while his right touched your knee.
You looked away before making eye contact, âjust tired.â Both emotionally and physically.
Loâak watched you but didnât say anything, he just climbed in front of you and told the animal to go home.
When you reached the shore you quickly climbed off and walked away, needing to be completely by yourself and allow yourself to wallow or break down or just stare at nothing. You just wanted to be alone. But of course, with Loâak, heâll come chasing after you.
â(Y/n). Come on, we should head home.â And when his hand grasped your wrist, you exploded.
With a blind rage in your heart, you barred your fangs and released a hiss from deep within your chest. He let go of you and you stepped away before running into the trees. The instant regret took away a bit of the fire in your heart, youâve never bared your fangs at any of the Sullys, even in playful moments.
As you walked through the small jungle area of the island you scrubbed your hands over your face, trying to erase any evidence of your tears. Cheeks flushed with your blood rushing and eyes touched with a red hue in the whites, chest heaving with hiccuping breaths and your ribs hurt with every few beats. Finally, your knees just gave out causing you to collapse to the floor, a deep growl building in your throat.
With a scream, you cried to the Great Mother, begging and pleading for Neteyam to come back. As exaggerated as it sounds, you needed Neteyam to breathe, to live. He unknowingly gave so much purpose to your life, you planned a future with him, you talked about children when you were ready. Pandora doesnât have the same vibrant colors you use to see every waking day, it doesnât hum with the high-pitched energy that you felt in your bones. Everything was dull and gray, the food tasted bitter on your tongue.
In your moment of heaving air and pleading to the air, arms snaked around your waist and pulled you in tight against a solid chest. You indulged for just a moment, pretending it was your beloved, but the voice snapped the trance.
âJust pretend,â he kept his voice low, âpretend you are in his arms. Say the words to free your heart.â
Your cries died off, your brows furrowed at his words. You tried to turn your eyes on him, but he removed a hand from your waist and draped them over your eyes, blocking out everything unimportant. You heard the water crashing, the wind brushing the leaves and grass, and your ears twitching with every breath that touched the sensitive skin. His skin was a warm comfort, chest pressing with every breath released, the pads of his fingers just a bit rough from time, the arm still holding your waist was a welcome weight.
âTalk to me, ma⊠ma txeâlan (my heart).â A nice pet name, but you heard the hesitance, and ignored it.
You touched his forearm, âma âteyam⊠how I yearn for you day and night. Fruits arenât as rich and juicy, the sky isnât as bright and clear, and the childrenâs shrieks of joy arenât as full in my heart. You were the air I breathed each second and now with you gone, I feel like I am suffocating. So right now I am angry at you. You had to be the fucking fkew tsamsyiu (mighty warrior)! I- I know how Kiri and Loâak- how they care for the human, Spider, but- you couldnât be selfish or- or pull Loâak away. You couldnât say no, he- Loâak, has such a soft spot in your txeâlan. And I know, I know already, Iâve told him plenty of times, it is not his fault. He just wanted his friend back, I understand. And- and I understand your actions, your family was in danger- our family was in danger,â you heaved a breath, âI- I am not angry with you, Iâm angry with the sky people. They canât leave us alone, touching and violating our home and destroying every beautiful gift Eywa has blessed us with. We should have been able to grow old⊠grow a lor (beautiful) family in the forest. We would teach them the way of the bow, grow them into fkew tsamsyius or zeykoyus (healers), and they would learn from Moâat.â Your body slumped, and energy vanished.
Loâak felt the tears but didnât speak, only kissed your temple. The kiss lingered and then another kiss near your ear, another to your cheek, a fourth one to your jaw that lead to a few more. You felt him turn your head, both hands touching your neck, you didnât dare open your eyes, too lost in the spell to break it just yet. With your hands moving to take hold of his biceps, you felt the breath of air ghost your lips.
âPlease,â you begged with your heart.
His lips pressed to yours hesitantly, waiting to see if youâll push further or break away. You tilted your head just a bit, granting better room for your lips to properly move together. And within those few seconds of kissing, you knew. You knew that the spark that was usually there every time has disappeared, telling you that this wasnât your Neteyam and that you couldnât see Loâak in any other way than as a friend, a brother.
You pushed away, shame filling your blood. âYou shouldnât have done thisâ âThis wasnât fair to Loâakâ
âI am sorry. I- I shouldnât haveâŠâ â(Y/n), would you mate with me?â
Your head snapped to Loâak, eyes wild with confusion at his sudden question. He looked serious, with no hint of mischief within his glowing eyes. His hands still held a firm hold on your neck, his fingers grazing your skin. His ears were pressed to his skull, awaiting some type of answer from you.
âI- I⊠why would you ask such a question? Whe- where is this coming from?â
He licked his lips, âNeteyam would want you happy. He would want you to have that family, to grow old with someone who cares for you as he did.â
âNo one could care for me as Neteyam didâ
âIt hurts to see you in pain and I would do everything in my power to take it away-â âYou do not like or love me, Loâak. You are just confused, I have confused you.â
He shook his head, âno, no. I do, I do like you. I hold love for you that can grow with time-â
âLoâak! Stop this!â You wretched free of his hold, âmating is a serious affair. You should not be proposing this pairing just because I have lost my promised one. You say that you are doing this because Neteyam would want me happy, but what about you? Would this union bring love into your life every time you think about it? Because you are blinded by- by our- by my unintended intimacy. I have taken advantage of your comfort, I have twisted your thoughts. You do not love me. You do not see me.â
âOel ngati kameie, (Y/n). I do,â Loâak tried to reach out to you.
You shrunk back, âdo not throw those words around worthlessly!â Your arms wrapped over your stomach, âLoâak, I know that you had some type of- of feelings for me when we were younger. Kiri mentioned it to me. And with time I assumed they faded because when we arrived here you were instantly transfixed with Tsireya. I saw how your eyes followed her movements, your brows raising, the- the greeting you said to her that caused giggles to spill from her lips. I could feel that this was something more. And when our training started I saw how nervous she made you, how she said your heartbeat sped up every time she touched you, the both of you sharing dazzling smiles. Tsireya makes you happy, Loâak.â
A sigh left your lips, âdo not throw your happiness away because of me.â Loâak tried to take a step towards you but you backed away, throwing a hand up, âI think it best if we are away from each other for a while. I- I need to heal properly and you need to rid yourself of these thoughts for me and focus on spending time with Tsireya again.â

Four Years Later
âFkew Tuktirey! A glorious catch! The family will be proud.â You shifted her head of braids, her laughs filling the air.
The two of you trudged back to your mauri pod, Tuk holding the fish she was able to catch. Sheâs grown so much in four years, now age eleven and standing at shoulder height, it brought tears to your eyes, she was already starting to be confident and outgoing. Neteyam would be so proud of her.
As she ran ahead into the home you could faint voices having a conversation, voices talking loudly and over each other. You were worried someone was getting yelled at, but when you walked in it was a different scene than what you expected.
Near the entrance, Jake and Neytiri were seated on the ground, smiles brightening their faces in glee. And you noticed that two other bodies sat across from them, Tsireya and Loâak, their hands clasped beside their thighs. They all looked up at your and Tukâs interruption to the home, but no smiles faltered at the intrusion.
âSaânu! (mom) Sempu! (dad) Look at the fish I caught with (Y/n)!â She hopped her way over to her parents. They both gasped and applauded her catch, Jake pulling her into his lap, pecking her face in quick kisses causing her to laugh. It was a joyful sight to behold.
âThis will make for a wonderful dinner tonight. A celebration of two!â Neytiri boasted. You cocked your head, âwhatâs the other occasion?â
You took note of Jake and Neytiri sharing a look and Tsireya and Loâak doing the same, you and Tuk were the only two out of the loop. It wasnât until Tsireya gave a simple nod that Loâak turned to you, âTsireya and I are to be mated.â Tuk shrieked in delight before leaping to the couple for hugs.
âI always knew the two of you would come together,â a declaration heard by everyone but meant for Loâak. âYou were always wise, (Y/n),â then suddenly Loâak did the gesture, hand to his forehead before dropping. I see you. The others might have thought it weird, but it meant a lot to you, Loâak finally understood you.
âOh, Tsireya, I canât wait for you to be an official family member!â Your arms are thrown over her shoulders. The two of you giggle with infectious joy and wiggle your bodies with buzzing energy.Â

Four Years and Two Months Later
The waves crashed and cried, the thundering in your ears almost a welcomed melody at this point. The blazing sun of the late afternoon warmed your skin in a nice hug, and gentle kisses to your cerulean stripes.
Your back sunk into the grains of sand on the beach, the shade of a palm tree leaves bringing relief to your face. Your eyes were closed in peace with lips slightly parted to release puffs of air, hands clasped over your stomach as it rose and fell. With your hair free of braids and the wind blowing, your jet-black strands would tickle your chin or nose, a crinkle forming to stop an incoming sneeze.
Almost slipping into a calming slumber you missed the soft steps heading your way on the beach, the wind and water covering the tracks. It wasnât until a crunching noise grew louder that you heard the sigh of someone beside you. So you peeled an eye open and in the corner you saw-
âLoâak. Did you need something?â You just closed your eye and waited for an answer from him. Body stays in its tranquil state.
He didnât say anything, you only heard shuffling on his part. But you waited, letting him collect his thoughts since itâs been a while since the both of you have been alone together. It was nice to be around him again, but you knew it was for the best, for both of you.
There was a graze to your forearm and it made you tense up, the touch unwelcomed. You didnât push him away, just turned your head and stared at the boy- the man before you. Your golden eyes squinted at his quiet demeanor, knees pulled up and head bowed with his braids falling over his shoulder and shielding his face.
âLoâak,â he jerked his hand away like you burned off fire, âwhy have you come here? It is best if we are away from each other.â
His head moved, âIâve missed my old friend. Missed sitting in silence with you and just keeping each other company as we mourned for Neteyam. Missed having you join me when visiting Payakan, he misses you as well,â a quick laugh, âand I- I just missed being with you.â
You let the words sink in, digesting and absorbing every syllable and word. âI have missed you too, Loâak.â A simple confession. You saw the tiny smile on his face.
âAre you excited to be mated with Tsireya?â Wanting to have an easy conversation.
Loâak looked out into the clear waters, âyeah. Iâm lucky she accepted me, flaws and all. Sheâs so perfect and gentle and sweet with everyone she meets, always having my heart squeeze with admiration for her. And she chooses me, reckless and carefree Loâak whoâs always doing shit to get me into trouble or danger. The perfect girl chose the disappointment. It is almost like a dream.â His fingers twiddled, pulling at the joints or tapping fingers together.
âYou are not a disappointment, Loâak.â A poke was sent to his thigh for his attention, âyour family loves you very much. And, yes, some of the things they have said to you havenât been the nicest, but they bubbled from a place in their heart from fear of losing you.â
He looked away, hands still fidgeting so you pulled the closest into your grasp as you continued speaking, âand you say you are lucky for Tsireya choosing you, but she is also the lucky one. She looks at you like you hung every star that sparkles in the night sky, you pull laughter from deep within her chest, her heart. She touches you with a fragile air, hands always clasped between your bodies or caressing your cheek as she gets lost in your eyes. I see all this from far away. And- and I envy the both of you.â
Loâak opened his mouth to speak but you stopped him still needing to speak your mind, âI am so happy that you are able to have this love in your life. You truly deserve the best Loâak and being with someone who makes your days brighter and heart lighter, Eywa has given you a great blessing.â
You saw his eyes gloss over with water forming and his tongue popping out to lick his lips. You said all that needed to be spoken, so now you let him understand your words and waited for anything to be said from his side. With his hand still in your hold you ran your thumb over his knuckles.
â(Y/n), I know these are probably the words you donât wish to hear, but I too need to speak my mind as well.â His eyes bore into yours. You had a guess as to what he was going to say, but just nodded your head and let him speak.
âI did like you. When we were younger and I saw you in action for the first time, it was like Eywa crafted you with such care and precision. I was in awe, but Neteyam got to you first, so I kept a certain distance when it came to you. But when⊠when he died⊠I felt- I felt just a bit of hope that- that- I donât even know now. But I do want to say⊠you were right. Us being separated helped clear me of confusing thoughts and feelings and allowed me to focus on the one who loved me right away.â

Four Years and Nine Months LaterÂ
The beach was crowded. Every resident of Awaâatlu was present and dressed in their finest for the union of Tsireya and Loâak, the first pairing of different clans. Tonowari and Ronal along with Jake and Neytiri stood to the side of their children, and their siblings at the front of the crowd. You stood between Kiri and Tuk, a hand in both of yours.
You watched and listened as Ronal stepped forward, with her being tsahĂk she was the one to officiate the wedding, giving her blessings and wise words from Eywa. You saw the smiles pulling at the parents' mouths and the tears welling in their eyes, their children have grown up.
Tsireya with her hair intricately fashioned with beads and shells, her top that shimmered with pearls covering every inch of skin, but her smile and teary eyes were the most beautiful part of her. Her ever-expressive face showed that she was excited to spend the rest of her life with the man standing before her, ready to start a family with him in the future when they are further into adulthood. Excited to wake up every day to his face and arms wrapping her tight to his chest and falling asleep every night to the feel of his chest moving with every breathe and feel the light kisses he would place upon her hair or forehead before mumbling how he loves her and wishes her a good night.
With Loâak it looked like he was holding himself back from jumping into Tsireya and tugging her into a steering kiss. He wore a newly woven armband with a feather attached and an Omatikaya cummerbund, almost like his final goodbye to the forest before he gets his tattoos of the Metkayina warriors in due time. He held her hands tightly, thumbs constantly moving to show his nerves and excitement. His smile was ginormous, it was pushing his cheeks high and causing his eyes to squint, it was adorable. His tail was swinging side to side in a rapid movement and his ears were perked high, listening to every word being spoken by Ronal. His eyes shine with love, probably thinking of getting to kiss his mate whenever he wants, day and night nothing would stop him from a quick peck or a passionate melting of lips that caused hands to wander. Heâll enjoy all the loud and quiet moments in their home, just enjoying the other company as they do their own tasks. Heâll talk about his day over dinner and she listens with focused ears and watchful eyes.
The loud cheers of the crowd snapped you from your daydreaming, imagining you and Neteyamâs future.
Tsireya and Loâak share a kiss before the clan, their joining of queues and mating before Eywa would take place away from the eyes of others.
With a feast held in their name, everyone was in high spirits. The music was flowing and people were dancing, the food was cooked to perfection and in abundance, and the drinks splashed causing people to let loose. You clapped, cheered, and laughed with your new clan, your new home. Conversing with people your age and allowing yourself to make new friends.
When the eclipse was high in the sky you excused yourself from the festivities and walked to a secluded part of the beach.
As you lay on the beach with your hands behind your head and eyes staring up at the sky, you yearned for him once again. Yearned for his warmth and his touch, his voice and laugh. Yearned for the domestic life you envisioned yourself to have with him, imagining your children squealing and running amuck, but bringing endless light and joy to your lives, as heâd done to yours.
With almost five years passed since his departure, everyone has healed most wounds. There were still cracks and tears within your hearts that might never mend, but you knew that Neteyam was watching all of you. He would be smiling and almost shocked that Loâak mated before him, but he would be happy because he knew his little brother deserves every ounce of love. Neteyam would be happy that everyone is living their lives happily and growing more into themselves, with great love filling their bones.
And with that knowledge, heâs happily waiting with Eywa until his family can join him on the other side.

As the warm and silent night enveloped the beach of Awa'atlu, your lonely figure stood on the damp and silvery sand, as if it were pulverized with a layer of stardust, a soft lighting that danced around you. The waves crashing on the shore emitted a sweet sound of liberation, like a reassuring whisper singing a sweet melody to your ear. Their constant movement, a perpetual beat of the heart of the ocean, melted with your voice, creating a magical harmony that floated in the night air of the beach. The stars twinkled like diamonds in the night sky, while the moonbeams illuminated your makeshift stage on the beach. The ashy light danced through the waves, creating glowing reflections that seemed to applaud your talent, urging you to continue to sing for the Great Mother. Deep in the night, sea animals joined the natural beach orchestra. Seagulls croaked in the distance, like angelic choirs that responded to your notes. The waves carried with them the melodious song of the newly returned Tulkuns, a deep and powerful symphony that vibrated in the soul of Lo'ak who listened in silence from afar, hypnotized.
Lie si oe tĂŹvawmur â I experience the darkness Atanti ngal molunge, Ma Eywa â You brought light, oh Eywa lawnol a mĂŹ te'lan â Great joy in my heart SrrĂŹri tĂŹreyĂ€ â For the days of life Ngaru irayo seiyi ayoe, Ma Eywa â We thank you, oh Eywa TonĂŹri tĂŹreyĂ€ â For the nights of life
You sang with bare feet in the sand, dancing freely, emanating a magnetic aura. Your voice, intense and penetrating, hovered in the air accompanying, telling pieces of your Songcord, the dark days and happy days blessed by Eywa and her love. Your notes intertwined with the sound of the sea and the singing of marine animals, creating a unique melody that seemed to merge with infinity, and that left Lo'ak breathless and mesmerized. And so, once again on the beach, you became part of the enchanted landscape. Your music traveled along the brackish breeze, bringing with it the magic of the night and its sounds, enchanting the young Na'vi who still did not know your face. This was the seventh night that Lo'ak hid behind some rocks to listen to your voice, remaining in silence not to disturb that magic that only the darkness of the night and the ocean could reveal, admiring you from afar, finding peace in your music. Every note, every nuance of your song was like a fragment of a deep emotion, a song that told of passions, dreams and hopes.
"Are you going to hide for more nights?" You asked in the wind, while on your knees, tired from dancing for about an hour, you wet your hair on the shore of the sea. You already noticed a few nights before you had a silent spectator, but you had preferred to shut up because you didnât know if he was waiting for the right moment to approach you, or if maybe he was just too shy to do it. So you decided to give him a chance to reveal himself to you without waiting any longer. A whirlwind of emotions takes over in Lo'ak, feeling exposed. His mind filled with excitement, fear and hope as his heart pounded in his chest. Every detail of the moment seems to amplify, making his presence even more incisive, albeit hidden. "I donât bite, you can approach me" you continued, laughing slightly, turning your back as you waited for him to approach. Lo'akâs eyes explored your body from behind: Your long wavy raven hair, the watery green skin that shone because of the tiny bioluminescent freckles that created constellations on your body, the loincloth folded to the side to let you sit comfortably and the threads of the top that covered your front breast. During the seven nights he watched and listened to yourself singing and dancing freely alone on the beach, you fed his dreams and fantasies about you, daydreaming of the day he would show up, studying it in his mind. He would never have imagined that your meeting could happen so directly on your part.
Lo'ak came out of his cunning hiding place and approached you. His legs trembled slightly, as his heart began to hammer so hard that he became deaf. His mind was filled with a mix of curiosity, hope and fear of disappointing you in some way, as you had captured his attention in such a powerful and innocent way. You turned your face to the side, noticing the Na'vi behind you, smiling gently and then turning around completely and being inexplicably fascinated by that mysterious guy so different from the Metkayina boys you were used to. His tight waist, his slender yet toned body, his tail thinner than yours and her hand presenting what looked like an extra finger. Your eyes then met his, remaining enchanted by those golden pools that reminded you of dawn, deep and magnetic, left you mesmerized for a while. His gaze lingered on yours, finding you enchanting, perhaps even better than he had imagined your face. "I finally see youâŠ" You whispered with a thread of voice as your heart sped inexplicably into your chest, sending strange signals even to your stomach that began to writhe on itself. Your voice out of the song was pure hypnotic melody, as if you invited him to be amazed and run out of words in his throat, making him just breathe like a fish out of water. "I see you too⊠Iâve seen you before, but never⊠I mean, you know. Your eyes⊠andâŠ" He began, going into confusion right away, thanking the little light that could hide the slight redness on his cheeks. < Idiot. > He thought to himself, while scratching his neck swallowing heavily. You laughed slightly, amused by his clumsiness around you; though you might notice that he was a belted warrior wrapping his abdomen, hardly believing that a warrior could be so careless and almost shy with a woman.
"No need to be embarrassed, sweetie, I noticed you a few nights ago. I donât seem to have been rude enough to embarrass you, do I?" You asked while you started to wet the long braid that covered the neuronal tail, trying to put the boy at ease, looking away from him. You smiled shyly, as the boyâs strong natural scent struck your delicate sense of smell, finding it strangely delicious and pleasant, unlike that of other boys. "No, not at all⊠I thought I would pass more unnerved, thatâs it" he admitted, looking at you from above, taking long, deep breaths, not knowing how to carry on the conversation. "Youâre not from here, are you? Your skin and texture would not go unnoticed, not even your perfume." You admitted, as you implied that he was sitting next to you. Lo'ak sat down beside you, leaving some space between you two. "No, I just arrived with my family. I come from the Omatikaya clan" he said without taking his eyes off your face covered with some wavy strands of hair. "The Omatikaya clan? You come from far away. What is your name?" You turned your face towards him, looking at him in the honey puddle in his eyes, breathing in his scent. "Lo'ak⊠Your name instead is?" His voice made his interest and curiosity in knowing you, feeling already so close to you not only physically. "Y/n, you may not believe it but I am the singer of the Metkayina clan" Your voice was sarcastic, as you watched as a smile began to paint itself on his face, showing beautiful pearly teeth and long canines. You smiled back, happy to have managed to make the boy smile beside you, feeling that he was now less tense than before.
"Unbelievable, who would have expected it. Such a beautiful and melodious voice that acts as the main voice for the clan? Unimaginable" Lo'ak said, continuing the little game you had started. You bit your lip slightly as you carried a few curls behind your ear, looking down at his hands, which they laid on the ground. You immediately noticed that Lo'ak did not look like a real Na'vi, the presence of eyebrows, a fifth finger or the almost non-existence of the typical Na'vi cross on his abdomen, but these details only made you curious about him. "So flattering, you only heard me sing for a few nights. But thank you, compliments are always appreciated" you replied, creating a path with your eyes from his hands to his eyes. "Youâre right, but that doesnât mean your voice isnât charming⊠May I ask why you always sing the same song? Itâs very beautiful, but I donât understand why you always go around the same" He bit his lip slightly as he looked at you. Even though you were sitting, you seemed so tiny near him, almost fragile, because of the height difference. "Itâs my songcord. I usually sing to the Great Mother, waiting to add more important events⊠I like to remember my life every night, itâs a celebration of myself, to wish me the best for the future. You never sang your songcord?" Your eyes fell on his loincloth for a second, looking briefly at his songcord that was tied to his side, and then blushing when your eyes inevitably moved more to the center, noticing something you shouldnât even notice. "No, I extend it but I donât sing it. Sometimes I look at it and I think Iâve only had a few important events in my life, I donât think the Great Mother would listen to me if I asked her something similar" Lo'akâs voice had that strange aftertaste of bitterness, as if something had marked him perpetually throughout his life.
Your hand laid gently on his warm cheek, while the tip ofyour little finger brushed against the boyâs angular jaw. "The Great Mother always listens to us, no matter how little hope we have. She is here" you laid a hand on his chest, shyly. "Just⊠just try to live every day as if it were your last, thank her for your days and live with the knowledge that you have someone watching over you continuously. You will see that your Songcord will stretch and you will find more experiences to keep you dear to you" You answered and then get up. " You listened to my voice for seven nights in silence. I am sure you will have the same patience to listen to your voice too, the Great Mother will do the same⊠or she has already done it" You turned around as you began to walk. Lo'ak looked at you silently as you walked away from him. "H-hey, y/n where are you going?" He said as he rose, dusting away the sand from his cerulean skin. "Itâs late, I have to get back to my marui. I reduced myself to the last minute to talk to you like this in case it was too embarrassing or worse, I could have left without you weighing it" Your voice was sincere. You turned and then smiled gently at him, with a slight and impetuous blush on the cheeks "Fortunately it went well". Lo'ak remained to admire you as you walked away, heading where all the Marui were, and smiled, turning back on the sand. His hand immediately found an object on the sand, a small blue pearl, with white reflections due to the moonlight. He squeezed it between his fingers and then carried it over his head, inspecting it against light, deciding that that pearl would end up on his songcord, sure that the encounter with you was not random, and that you would bring light on that eternal night that had enveloped him all these years.
More nights passed since then, and every night Lo'ak listened to you sing your songcord, watching as your hands caressed the beads and your smile softened every time you came to the end. Lo'ak admired you in silence, indeed, he worshipped you, feeling alive at every note that left your mouth, creating a hypnotic melody in his mind that could only make him accelerate his heart, while his hand touched his own songcord, in particular the bead that represented you. Every night he would listen to you and then you would sing him some songs from the Metkayina clan, always asking him if he had added new pearls to his songcord, and talking about all sorts of things. You liked to meet him and listen to his outbursts, creating almost a safe place around you, where he could feel safe and calm, and you too. You could say that you were completely in tune, understanding you with little, even if the meetings were limited only to the night because of the commitments of both. You never complained about this, enjoying those moments of tranquility and security. One of those nights you noticed his songcord, with a pearl that had to be of the Metkayina clan due to the shape and nuances.
"Ma Lo'ak, isnât that a pearl of the sea on your songcord?" you asked intrigued, pointing to the songcord tied to his loincloth. "Hmm?" He looked down at the spot where you were pointing and blushed suddenly. "Y-yes⊠itâs a pearl of the sea, I found it the night we first spoke, I saw it and I caught itâŠ" He said slightly embarrassed, as he looked away from you and hid his songcord, at least the end where the bead was. You laughed and then leaned your fingertips on his biceps, resting your face on his shoulder as you breathed in his perfume, making him blush from the sudden proximity. "And you decided to put it on your songcord? Is it for me?" you shamelessly asked, noticing how a shiver passed through his body and the slight redness on his cheeks. "What? Is it really for me? Aw, thatâs so cute." Your voice was kind of funny, even sweet and sincere, as you teased him and pinched his arm to make him talk. "No! I mean, yes⊠Well, itâs- ah! y/n, stop," he said, turning his face to the side so you wouldnât see him blushing, even though it was too late. "How cute! Youâre embarrassed for so little? Oh, c'mon Lo'ak, thatâs nice. Iâm happy to be in your songcord as a reminder to keep in mind" You put your hand under his chin and turned him in your direction and then unbalanced yourself forward, touching your noses. "I also want you in my songcord, can I have one of your beads, please?" You asked him while your faces were separated by very little space. His eyes fell on your lips and then returned to your eyes, swallowing slightly before sighing.
"What would you like?" He answered as he moved a strand of hair behind your ear, noticing how he seemed enchanted and almost mesmerized by your eyes. "This here⊠can I have it?" Your eyes did not come off her, as you used your peripheral vision to wrap two fingers around a yellow bead that was on one of her braids. "I like this one. It reminds me of the suns of Pandora, the coral reef of the ocean andâŠ" you laid a hand on his cheek, gently "your eyes." Lo'ak blushed more, making you smile. You noticed how he took off all the beads to give you the yellow one you had decided, and then rearranged them on the braid. You looked at him and silently thanked him for putting the bead in your hair, keeping it there until you get home and can add it to the songord. "I donât understand why you get so shy when Iâm so close to you" you huffed and then went backwards, laying your hands on the moist, compact sand, which offered a pleasant feeling of freshness. The waves of the ocean reflected on it, creating a shimmering and magical effect, while the stars above you reflected on your raven hair, forming almost moonlight-like spots, as if the cosmos were pouring down on you. Lo'ak looked at you with his big golden eyes, more and more mesmerized by your beauty and your being so outspoken, feeling his heart accelerate when the sea breeze brought your perfume directly into his lungs. "Iâm not shy, Iâm just not used to talking to girls like you" he admitted. You raised an eyebrow, not understanding the meaning of what he was saying. "You are direct, too direct y/n" you stop him. "is that bad?" He looked at you, sighing as he felt like an idiot. "No, I love this aspect of you" he admitted, looking down slightly, and then opened his eyes when you answered. "Do you love it?" you replied, smiling, as you approached him again, observing how the blush persisted on his cheeks. "Well, I love you. I mean, love it, I LIKE IT! I like your character, but I like you too. I like you as a friend, that is, I like like you, I lo-" Lo'ak panicked and you laughed and then pressed your lips on him, feeling like he froze on the spot.
The atmosphere permeates with electrifying energy as your hearts beat in unison. In the air there is a combination of excitement and shyness, your hands landed on Lo'akâs cheeks, caressing them gently as you tried to calm him, noticing how his eyes tapered as the kiss became a little more intimate and tangible, colliding your warm tongues. His hands wrapped around your waist, caressing it with a little fear at first, then smiling when he realized you didnât mind. You both get lost in the moment, forgetting everything else. The sea breeze caressed your faces, while the waves broke on the shore like a melody in the background, amplifying the magic of the moment. As you gently parted, he bit your lip slightly. Your looks met again, filled with joy, gratitude and a silent promise of something. Your thumbs on his cheeks rubbed slightly against his skin before you started talking. "I like you too, and not just as a friend." You whispered on his lips, blushing slightly. "I mean that I really like you, like I love you. if I didnât understand it" You laughed softly and then slightly detached yourself from him, dropping the grip you had on his face, glad tat you finally told him. "From the first night when I discovered you and talked to you. I liked you. You looked like a helpless, shy baby Tulkun who preferred to stay hidden. You were very cute and you still are, to be honest." Lo'ak listened to you in silence, incredulous at how you were declaring yourself so naturally, as if you were talking about the most basic thing. "And I like that youâre so different from me, that you look like a bad guy from the outside, even when I run into you in the village. Swollen chest and high head, like I want to prove something to someone, even though I feel like the real you is the shy, sensitive one Iâve come to know. I thought I should tell you" Your eyes fell on Lo'akâs, before being taken from his face and brought back in a sweet kiss. "IâŠ" Lo'ak whispered as he pulled away from your lips, finding it already an addiction. "Me too⊠I like, love you y/n. Your voice, your hair, your laugh⊠Ma Eywa, youâre so amazing and so spontaneous. You make me feel less alone and at home, even though I remain silent listening to you sing or talk" He said with confidence as he looked you in the eyes. "And itâs so fucking liberating to think that Iâm not the only one who feels that way. I think you somehow bewitched me with your voice" He smiled and then let you rest on his chest, lying on the sand.
"Even bewitched you? Anyway, youâre right, Iâm amazing, which is why you should ask me to be your partner." You admitted while you were watching the stars. He coughed and thanked himself for putting you on his chest so you wouldnât see the embarrassment on his face. "itâs true. Donât you know that the best is taken immediately? is a piece of advice. You could ask me now, in case itâs a yes, just to let you know." Lo'ak laughed spontaneously and then held you close to him, wrapping his arms around your body, sniffing the sweet scent of salt in your hair. "Y/n, will you be my girlfriend?" From his voice it could be seen that he was trying to stay serious without laughing at the absurdity of the situation, and from the way you had practically fed him the words. "Yes, of course I do." You smiled, satisfied, and then played with the armband that faded, brushing the feather and relaxing on him. "It wasnât that hard, was it?" "You are really⊠I have no words to describe you, ma yawntutsyĂŹp." You interrupted him, raising your face to look at him. "Mhhh, maybeâŠYours? Extraordinary? An excellent singer? Yes, they are all already confirmed things" Lo'ak laughed and gently stroked your side and then left a kiss on your head.

đ©đđąđ«đąđ§đ : Lo'ak x fem!omatikaya!reader
đ°đšđ«đ đđšđźđ§đ: 540
đ/đ§: so sorry this took so long! I've been out of town for at least a month it feels like.
"Come here," you gritted out, though a smile graced your lips as Lo'ak rolled his eyes. He had intended on asking you to go fly with him, having had too much spare time to not go see his ikran.
Then you reminded him with a teasing frown that he was grounded, something Neytiri hadn't failed to inform you of, knowing Lo'ak would attempt to sway you into making a jailbreak with him.
Now, he stomped toward where you sat at the wall of your hut. His hair swung around his shoulders, the beads glinting in the sunlight peeking in through the cracks in the hut's fabric. A pout was on his face, and it made you just a little annoyed, but not enough to wipe the smile off your face.
It was your turn to roll your eyes as he slumped down next to you. "It's your own fault."
His ears shot back as he whipped around to look at you. "Saso started it!"
A laugh bubbled in your chest. "Lo'ak, you broke his nose!"
The boy crossed his arms and turned away, his silence enough to tell you he wasn't in the mood for the regular banter. The way your tail had been raised cheerfully dropped, the limb hitting the floor as your eyes went soft.
"I'm sorry, Ma Lo." You reached to push one of his braids away from his eyes, tucking it behind his ear. He leaned into your touch, the tension fading from his body as he brought his gaze over to yours.
Your fingers grazed his temple, and you noticed the sides of his hair were starting to grow out into a subtle scruff. "You'll want to shave this soon."
He mumbled an "I know" before he leaned his head onto your shoulder. Again, your focus went to his hair. "Yawne, can I redo your braids? They're growing out too."
Though he tried to not seem too excited, the way he practically jumped to sit between your legs and the excited twitch of his tail betrayed him.
With delicate hands you worked to take his hair down, letting it fall down his back as he began a rant on how much he hated Saso and how he missed his ikran, and basically anything that got a response out of you. He had missed the sound of your voice too.
He was glad you'd offered to help, as he really was thinking of redoing his hair, and he would never let go of an opportunity to have your hands gliding over his scalp the way he'd never grow tired of.
Sometimes, he slipped up, and let out some sound akin to a cat's purr, though he'd immediately deny it if you brought it up. By the time you were through, he'd nearly forgotten why he was so angry earlier.
All the tension had left him, and as you finished off the last braid, slipping on a handmade bead from your own hair as a finishing touch, you set a hand on his shoulder to let him know. Almost immediately he laid back into your chest, looking up at you as he found a comfortable place on your lap.
"Thank you," he said gently, something extra soft in his eyes that was a rarity for your ever-so-proud lover.
You smiled down at him, beginning to trace from his temple to his nose with your fingertips. Again, he hummed as his eyes slipped shut. "No problem."

Hi! I was just wondering how would Spider be like with Little Mama? Would Neytiri see Spider differently as well as she has a human mate?
Helloooooooooo! So I am going to make this a part 2 of Pinnacle motherhood. I be breaking my own rules on this but it still counts as a mother's day special. So sit back, relax and enjoy!
Pinnacle motherhood
------------------
Pinnacle Protection
It is a well known fact that small mama will care for any child. No matter who or what. Spider Soccorro is no different.Â
When she first met spider as a baby, she thought he was cute. His little chubby cheeks, wide innocent eyes, bright smile. A little angel.Â
When she learned who his parents were, especially his father. Things slightly shifted. Once the information reached Jake and neytiri, opinions and sides were formed.Â
Neytiri began to hate spider from the start once she learned of his blood lineage. Wouldn't listen to reason, wouldn't care to see anything beyond the demon that ruined everything. All she ever saw in spider was his father. Which began to cause some problems.Â
So small mama did something she thought she would never do behind her mates. Hide a secret. What is that secret? Visiting baby spider as often as she can, almost every day. When she isn't needed, or when neytiri has it covered on the children, small mama would make some excuse to leave and see spider.Â
The more time she spends with spider, the more in love small mama gets. Spider has seen her enough times that he gets so excited to see her, hear her voice. Would shriek and shout, wiggling around to get her attention.Â
In spiders mind, small mama is his real mama. Would at times accidently call her âmamaâ. Small mama wouldn't dare to correct him. Why would she? Spider needs someone to look after him constantly, the other humans are too busy to properly care for a child.Â
So she unofficially adopts spider. Though she knows that at some point, small mama will have to tell her two mates. That is something she dreads, unsure how they will react to such news. Especially neytiri.Â
When the secret was revealed, there were many things small mama was prepared for. Neytiri remaining silent for days was something small mama was not prepared for. Not even jake.Â
After long weeks of silence from neytiri, she demanded some private talk with small mama.
On purpose small mama would bring spider with her.Â
They would talk, disputes and all the common things that would happen. But by the power of spiderâs cuteness and small mamaâs wise words, neytiri had come to accept spider.Â
With time and patience, small mama made sure to close the gap between the two, in giving spider the love and the family he deserved, and helping neytiri overcome her fears and trauma.Â
As spider grows, the dynamic changes.Â
Despite the other sully siblings being close to their small mama, spider holds small mama in a specific spot in his heart.Â
Yes spider loves his two other parents. Jake is a wonderful dad, the best he could ever have. Neytiri is strong, strict yet shows her way of showing love to him. Small mama is the one who understands him on a human level.Â
Spider sees himself as the ultimate small mama protector. He proves himself time and time again. Yes it makes his other siblings be a bit jealous but haters are gonna hate.Â
Small mama love spider as much as she loves the rest of her children. She has no favorites. It is just that each child needs different kinds of affection, love, affirmation, and so on.Â
Spider is the type who needs constant praise, hugs, and physical love. He is confident in his skills, but it is good to have his family back him up in positive ways.Â
The times neytiri and jake spend alone time with spider, small mama cant help but feel happy and proud at seeing how far they have come along. Spider is a sully through and through. And to hell with it, small mama will make sure spider knows every damn day.
Aaaaaaaaaaand that is it for this one! Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time! See ya!

Grovel: Part 1
Pairing: Aged Up Lo'ak x Fem Omatikaya Reader
Summary: Lo'ak broke your heart all those years ago. If he plans to woo you once more it is going to take a lot more than a debonair grin.
Warnings: angst, aged up Lo'ak, future NSFW, broken hearts, cheating, swearing, etc.
A/N: I wrote the majority of this in a couple hours so.....it's rough.
You prayed to Eywa it would fit. Getting Loâakâs measurements without him becoming suspicious had been a job in and of itself, but now it was sure to pay off. With your relationship being kept on the down low there were truly only a few ways you could publicly show your affection for the youngest Sully brother. Creating this arm band for him had been a delight and had set butterflies off in your stomach.Â
There was something about the notion of forbidden love that had your heart racing at every moment the two of you stole together. It was new and exciting but even more than that it was a risk that made you feel alive.Â
It was hard to believe that the two of you had gone from lifelong frenemies to lovers in only a few months. Of course the greatest level of intimacy you had shared were a few tender kisses and snuggling embraces. Loâak had been your first kiss, sweeping you off your feet until every other ignorant young male had paled in comparison.Â
Since then there had been no hope for your young heart to resist. It was everything and more that you had dreamed of since you were a child hearing of your parentâs own love story. Love had been found in the most unexpected of people but it was true. You could no longer deny how hard and fast you had fallen for the male. And tonight you were finally going to tell him.Â
With a courting gift worthy for the mightiest of warriors your love would be proclaimed and hopefully his own would be there to reciprocate.Â
A jittering tingle raced down your arms and legs, pushing you to run faster through the forest. It was a miracle you didnât throw up from the motion after the way your own nerves had tied your stomach into knots. However, running gave your pent up energy somewhere to go and now more than ever you needed a release. Loâak didnât know the two of you were meeting today.
Thatâs what made it all the better.
A perfect surprise the trickster himself would never see coming.Â
He would be under the Tree of Souls as he always was in the afternoons, the place where he claimed to have his best thoughts. Someday he would surely tell you what those thoughts were but today you prayed his mind would be full of you. Just the way the bastard always managed to cram himself into every nook and cranny of your mind. It seemed only fair that he suffered the same.Â
Light still prevailed but new colors painted the sky as Eclipse came inched closer. The tendrils of Vitraya Ramunong were already beginning to shimmer from where they hung.Â
Your cheeks hurt from smiling when you spotted his slim form, even as your own knees trembled with anticipation.Â
Just play it cool, you reminded yourself. There was no reason to worry so long as you managed to get out three little words. The intricate beads of the arm band started to create imprints in your palm from how tight you held it.Â
One last steadying breath before you scaled down the tree trunk. A giggle almost escaped your throat when you had the brilliant idea to sneak up on him. Last week he had given you quite the scare while you were weaving a basket. Now would be the perfect time for payback.
âItâs so beautiful!â
Your feet scraped against the bark into a halt.Â
âI told you this is the best time to come here.â Loâak responded and he wasnât alone. From this new vantage point you could now see a smaller female figure behind him, her eyes casted upwards at the enchanting view of the Tree of Soulâs increasing glow.Â
âYes but I thought that was only your way of getting me alone.â Those long lashes fluttered back at him, a playful smile sweeping over her lips. Loâak shrugged, an ever familiar smirk lacing his own.Â
âSo what if it was? I didnât see you putting up much of a fight.âÂ
âThe best predators know the importance of giving their prey a false sense of security.â Her eyes danced with a maturity so beyond her years it was almost vulgar. Loâakâs tail whipped back and forth, eating up every taunting seduction from the palm of her hand.Â
âWell I only let the prettiest girls catch me in their webs.âÂ
The distance was closed between them with only a few steps before she was reaching up on her toes and dragging him into a sinful kiss. One oh so different from the type you two had shared. A sensual kiss that you had only heard of but never experienced. And that was one thing you could tell from this other female, she wielded so much more power and experience than you ever could.Â
Still that wasnât what mattered because when they finally pulled apart for gasps of air it was sweet promises of affection and future mating that poured from Loâakâs lips.Â
The same vows that had been clutching your heart over the past few months.
The same lullabies that filled your dreams with fantasies of your lives together.Â
Today, they sang for her instead.Â
You were foolish to think they ever belonged to you, nothing more than a beautiful mirage your first love had woven to snatch you up.Â
A small sob alerted them to your presence. Eyes wide you only stared back at him for a moment before bolting to the trees.
The crafted armband abandoned on the ground.Â
Loâak had always been a pain in the ass. There was no better way to describe him. Not when he was your childhood nuisance turned to first love to then first heartbreak. The day his family left for Awa'atlu you tried to stay strong. At that point things had already been ruined between you. His player nature had been exposed and the male had only a week of trying to explain himself before the incident happened and the Sully family left the Omatikaya for good.Â
Or at least, what you thought was for good.Â
Their return had been something that many had hoped for but one that you had never allowed yourself to believe. Even when you were still in the mourning stages of your relationship and their disappearance you had fortified one single idea in your mind. Loâak leaving was for the best. It would allow you to move on.
And so you had. Taking much longer than you would have liked but slowly your hammock dried of tears and you began to focus on other things outside of the youngest Sully boy. Your foolish young heart had grown strong in wisdom and might. Your skills as a healer had become more polished with every day you spent under Moâatâs instruction. Adulthood came and fell upon you in a way that suited your new talents and attitude. Not a day passed where you werenât seeking to support the clan and People in one way or another.Â
Tarsem was a wonderful Oloâeyktan. He led the People with the necessary vision and courage it took to keep the Sky People out of your lands. Some days came with great losses, exposing you to more curious injuries by their machines than you could have imagined in the healerâs tent. However, those days you took with pride too. The Omatikaya never lost heart. They never gave up on protecting their home.Â
You werenât the only ones either. Stories of battling demon ships traveled overseas, ingraining the memory of mighty Metkayina defending their lands and conquering against all odds. Each time those stories found their way to the fireâs circle you had tried not to envision Loâakâs part in all of it. Some days were easier than others. And yet some you couldnât shake the visual of the warrior that you patched up in front of you being a certain Sully boy and not another Omatikaya warrior. It frustrated you to no end the lengths of your care for him but over time you made peace with the fact that his death was never announced.
And that was good enough.
Because that fact was the only one he had deserved for you to care about and nothing more. Â
It had taken years, the battle shaping so much of your shift from adolescence into adulthood. When all was said and done, however, the Sky People burned the forest with their demon ships one last time and then they too became nothing more than a star in the night sky. A celebration unlike any other had immediately gone underway. Your older sister, Talu, could hardly breathe with how many beaded and feathered tops she had been commissioned to construct for various men and women in the clan.Â
Your own work had graciously slowed down and for the first time since perhaps the day those demons invaded Pandora, you relaxed.Â
Peace was not yours to be had, however.Â
You had been halfway through washing in the hot springs when the news had come. The Sully family was set to return by the night of the celebration. And not to visit but to reclaim the throne and be herded back as one of the Omatikaya once more and forever. The shrieking females that had run to tell their other friends didnât seem to notice when you accidentally swallowed and choked on a mouthful of spring water.Â
They were too busy hypothesizing what the Sully brothers would look like now. Some even made bets on whether or not they would be returning home unmated. The conversation had been the opposite of peace, prompting you to sneak away and have your panic attack in the privacy of your own home.Â
âWill you stop squirming for one minute?â Talu reprimanded but an amused giggle laced her voice.Â
âMa Talu, please tell me you are almost done.â Another pearl was carefully strung through your long wavy hair.Â
âArt takes time.â She smiled softly. âAnd thatâs what you are. A magnificent piece of art.âÂ
Talu had not necessarily been wrong in her statement. After the countless hours she had put into constructing your curved top out of rare gems and strung your hair with bioluminescent pearls, you had transformed into something of ethereal beauty. And yet, the last thing you wanted was to stand out. What had started as a celebration to be anticipated had for you turned into a nightmare just waiting to happen.Â
Eywa had given you three days to prepare for tonight. Three whole days where you had solidified your resolve and reminded yourself that Loâak Sully was no longer anyone but another clan member to you. You were going to be cordial and respectful like you would another clan brother but no flicker of even remembering your past with him. Not a single mention of how he had shattered your young heart into a million pieces and left you there to weave it back together for years.Â
The old you was dead and with that so was your relation to him.Â
It still didnât ease your dread however. As Naâvi of all ages gathered around hometree and looked to the skies, you had scrambled to look for an excuse to be elsewhere. The air buzzed with excitement and every yip and call in anticipation felt like the chiming of a clock to you. One second closer to facing a part of your past you had buried too deep.Â
Talu had been immersed in the excitement with everyone else. You had never told her of Loâakâs betrayal. Even on the night you found him kissing another girl under Vitraya Ramunong you had fled to cry alone in the woods. Truth be told you had never even told her of the relationship in the first place. It had been something of a secret between the two of you and one that Loâak had insisted upon. Of course the truth of why that was important to him had eventually come to light.Â
Talu yelled and jumped with the others as the far ikrans dotted the horizon. Perhaps she would ask where you had wandered off to later but you had time to think of an excuse. No one had even noticed your absence as you seeked refuge in the depths of Eywaâs forest. The clan had burst into such a ruckus that it took a good distance to turn that shrieking into a distant rumble.Â
You had escaped in just the knick of time.Â
The small glowing river fish had swirled around the branch you glided through the water for what felt like hours. It was calming, spending time with creatures that knew nothing of your demise. Still, you couldnât hide forever. Talu was sure to be looking for you and it was customary to take part in clan events, especially ones as momentous as this.Â
So many years had already passed and your growth had been profound. Loâak had no right to make you scatter and hide like a timid prey. Besides, he most likely would not remember you in the first place. So with that perspective he did not deserve to be remembered either.Â
Naâvi of all ages bounded and danced with such fervent zeal it could only be described as instinctual. Joy radiated from every pore and each movement was honored as another prayer of gratitude to the Great Mother. Naer [Alcohol] of the finest quality was freely passed and taken until laughter bounced from the trees. Of course the most elaborate and breathtaking attire was worn by clan members, especially those who remained unmated.Â
Surely post war would be a time for many such pairings to come about and furthermore the ideal moment to start a family.Â
You shook your head at the thought. It was a charming idea and you had been with more than your fair share of men intimately since reaching maturity but now was not the right time for you. Even then, the right male had not deigned to present himself yet.Â
Color drained from your cheeks when you finally spotted Talu. Her eyes sparkled with happiness in the moonlight and cheeks ached from smiling so much but she was not alone. A tall figure faced her, leaned against a tree trunk with crossed ankles. Immediately you recognized the specific pattern of jagged stripes that covered his skin.Â
However, that was perhaps the only thing you recognized from Loâak. He had grown. Grown oh so much and you knew he would have, but not like this. Somehow a part of you had still expected the same beanpole of a fourteen year old to show up. NowâŠLoâak had grown in stature in a way that only a Metkayina could. His build was accentuated with thick biceps and broad shoulders that only further brought out the contrast of his tapered waist.Â
It was as if your eyes were playing tricks on you, searching to find where that lanky boy had gone to leave behind this sculpted male.Â
His skin was different too. Those stripes you had come to adore during adolescence had now been joined by dark ink. Curious designs lined his side before traveling into swirling patterns that danced over his hips and even outer thighs. Squinting in the fireâs light you could just make out how that ink traveled straight to the band of his loincloth before slipping under.Â
No.
Nope.Â
That was dangerous territory and simply none of your business.Â
Trying to distract your over curious brain you find yourself observing his hair instead. Those two signature braids still hung over his forehead but they were adorned with various objects and shells that you did not recognize. Even more surprising, his decorated braids were tied together as a top knot. It brought out the shape of his jawline and cheekbones, chiseled until they could cut like a knife.Â
Life was unfair. If you didnât know it before you surely knew it now because how else could this traitor grow to be so impeccably handsome? Such an enchanting mix of two cultures swirled into one male at his prime.Â
Your teeth grinding was cut short by a firm hand around your bicep.
âCome, child.â Moâat sternly directed. She didnât offer an explanation as you were led to the front of the celebration but you knew better than to ask for one.Â
Moâat lined up every healer in front of the ravenous crowd. All it took was one hand in the air to silence the commotion. All eyes turned to their Tsahik.Â
âMy People,â She called in a boisterous voice. âWe gather together tonight in thanks of our Great Mother. By her will, we have prevailed as a People with strong hearts. By her mercy, the balance of life has been restored.â The crowd broke out into a chorus of calls and yips that rumbled the forest.Â
âIn gratitude we must not grow weary. Our hearts forever imprinted with the memory of what has been sacrificed. To this I call upon you to look at your brothers and sisters and rejoice! See all that they have given.â The yelling increased tenfold and you swallowed that lump in your throat. You are not about to cry in front of the entire clan.Â
âI thank those especially who stand before us.â The focus shifted to fall upon you and the other handful of healers to your left and right. Even with the attention born between the group of you, it still weighed heavy. âThose who have stitched our wounds and lightened our sorrows. As Eywa herself has taught us, there is nothing that can not be mended by gentle hands.âÂ
Moâat stood now between you and another healer, one hand placed on her shoulder and the other on yours. As the cheers bellowed into the sky, you caught a glimpse of Talu pointing you out as Loâak leaned forward. She said something you could neither understand nor wanted to know. Gaze forced away by pure will, you barely escaped seeing when Loâakâs gaze finally pinned you down.Â
It didnât matter, though.
Not when those golden orbs burned like liquid fire through your veins.
There were so many people you could occupy your time with. At this point you were willing to talk to Neteyam if it meant avoiding his younger brother. Pushing through the crowd was more difficult than you anticipated but you prayed that it would be enough to keep Talu and her new friend at bay too.Â
âMa Neteyam,â You hastily greeted, signing âI see youâ as he turned to face you. It was a miracle you had even been able to recognize the eldest Sully in the first place with his new tattoos and metkayina clothing.Â
âMa Y/N.â Although surprised, he returned the gesture with a polite smile. âYou look well, sister.âÂ
His voice was so much lower than you remembered.Â
âAs do you.â An awkward silence threatened to settle between you and if you wanted to ward off potential advances you needed this to appear as enthralling as possible. âThat is a charming necklace. What is it made of?â Your dainty fingers shakily came to thumb over the obscure object. To Neteyamâs credit, he only barely flinched at your unexpected touch.Â
âA special sea glass from Awaâatlu. Some beaches are littered with them.âÂ
âWow, that is fascinating.â It wasnât. Any other day it might have been but you couldnât focus enough to appreciate it fully.Â
âThat little piece is truly nothing once youâve seen the whole beach.â This voice rumbled at your back, just close enough to feel his body heat prickle your skin. Your composure was not easily won over but it was forced into place just as you were forced to finally face him.
âSister, we have been looking all over for you. Such a busy body.â Talu nervously laughed but one look told you that she knew about your earlier ditching of festivities.Â
âY/N.â Loâak gave you the same gesture of respect, voice gravely and low in a way that had chills racing up your spine. His eyes made contact with your own for only a second as you returned the polite formalities, eyes shifting to his right shoulder as to feign looking at him properly.Â
âLoâak.â It came out snippier than you intended, evident in the way his eyebrows turned down at the edges.Â
âI apologize for my absence. I wasâŠcaught up.â Loâakâs tail flickered at the last part but a charming grin still stretched across his lips. Stepping out of his line of fire you divulged a distraction by initiating Talu and Neteyamâs greetings. This way you were able to take some much needed steps away from Loâak and focus primarily on the other members present.Â
Neteyam and Talu filled the conversation easily, only requiring a few additions from you upon occasion. Even when it waned into subjects you were far from interested in, your body remained braced and alert as if you were swallowing every word said. The perfect defense against meeting Loâakâs gaze again. Even a protection against drooling over his muscular physique that had surely been carved by Eywa.Â
âWell I shouldnât leave my sister.â That snapped you out of your daze immediately.Â
âShe can dance with Loâak.â Neteyam smiled, as if he hadnât just granted your worst nightmare come true. And to him he hadnât because when you stuttered to find a response that reaction was only seen as adorable nerves. One that Loâak quickly stepped in to charm away.Â
âDo not worry, tanhi. Iâve learned to not trip over my feet now.â And he grinned. That bastard had the audacity to jest and tease like the two of you had been old friends. Talu sent you a pleading look, one that said you would never hear the end of this if you didnât play a good wingwoman right now. There was little that could be done about it now as he led you into the crowd.Â
Loâak was true to his word. He had become quite the dancer, enough so that your own actions could easily follow his lead. When your hands occasionally brushed you tried to sweep them away as soon as possible.Â
âYouâve grown.âÂ
âWhat?â You shouted back over the banging drums and he laughed in response.
âI said you have grown up, tanhi. Canât believe it.â His fangs peeked out as he grinned, so carefree and genuine it sent your mind racing. Who the hell did he think he was?
âWell that happens.â You answered shortly, strategically choosing now to swerve into a spin. Anything to avoid his gleeful expression.Â
âI mean yes of course but I just didnât think it was possible for you to become even more beautiful.âÂ
The spin grinded to a halt. Loâak stopped dancing too but where his expression flitted with flirtatious amusement your own was nothing but pure ice. It cut through him until that smirk was wavering.Â
âAre you fucking serious?!â The heaving drumming was a welcomed source of privacy, distracting the others from your rage. Everyone besides Loâak, whose brows knitted before letting out a short laugh.Â
âUm yes? I wouldnât say it if I didnât mean it.âÂ
âOh I wouldnât put it past you.â Bitter and harsh like the look in your eyes, Loâak was taken aback.Â
You didnât give him time to recover, however as you slipped past the other dancing Naâvi. Loâak caught up easily, long legs keeping him right on your heels.Â
âWoah woah hey, y/n. Where are you going?âÂ
âAway from you. I donât have time for this.âÂ
He caught your arm when the two of you had just reached the outskirts of the celebration. Hois hand was slapped away but that didn't stop him from blocking your escape.Â
âTime for what? Iâve just missed you is all.âÂ
âMissed me?â His words were so infuriating that you found your own sputtering to form sentences. Was it possible he suffered a brain condition? Memory loss? How else could he stand before you now and pretend that the last note the two of you had left off on had not been him shattering your heart. âYouâŠ.â Another steadying deep breath in. âYou think that after what you put me through that you could come back in and sweep me up for a hook up?â
Loâak shuffled backwards slightly, away from your accusing finger.Â
âTha-â
âOr maybe you have already forgotten what happened. Iâm sure it would be easier to ignore how you acted like the clanâs whore while spewing promises to me.âÂ
His jaw dropped, all evidence of that confidence swept away.
âWell in case youâve forgotten, youâve already screwed over this girl so cross me off your list.âÂ
It seemed that his brain was lagging because this time when you shuffled around him you werenât immediately cut off. Still, it appeared he had maintained his forest legs because he didnât struggle to make up for lost ground.Â
âY/n, I didnâtâŠ.â He sighed through his nose. âItâs just thatâŠ.that was so long ago. I didnât even know how much of that you remembered.âÂ
âExcuse me?â You wheeled back on him, taking secret pleasure in the way Loâak did in fact trip over his feet this time. He recovered quickly but there was a frazzled energy to his movements.Â
âNo, no! Shit IâŠ. that came out wrong.â
You save him the trouble of trying to string together an explanation. It was worth neither of your times not to mention how silly you felt for bringing it up in the first place. What did it matter after all these years? Nothing. That is what you had always told yourself and his appearance was not going to change that.Â
âLoâak, mawey. Youâre right it was a long time ago so letâs just put it behind us and make one thing clear.â His ears perked, eyes rounded as it appeared the very breath in his lungs became stagnant. âWe are not friends. Iâm happy for you and your family but only in the way everyone else is happy for your return. You stay in your lane and I will stay in mine. That way, everyone is happy.âÂ
âNot everyone.â He murmured, ears pressed flat against his braids.Â
There was a flicker of hope present in his eyes, as if waiting for you to spontaneously forget the past and welcome him with open arms. You hoped your speedy exit was enough to blow that flame out.
This is my random little story I've been working on to keep my mind off the break up. If you like it, please let me know and I will continue to work on and post the next parts:)

So I was reading aoânung x reader fanfics and like I came up with an idea that was stuck to my head ever since. So like thereâs a sound on TikTok where itâs like : âyouâre not good enough for my daughter and I donât want you to be around her, end of storyâ âŠ..âso why donât you give me one last chanc-â but on aoânung x sully!reader where sheâs like younger than neteyam and Loâak, sheâs the kind of girl who can be strict but gentle at the same time, help her grandma and mom to make food, heals, the type of girl that dads would be like âgirls like you shouldnât be bla bla blaâ the type to walk grandmas on the cross way, type to open a bakery by herself and call it the Sullyâs Family Bakery đ . So aoânung wanted to court the reader but Jake, Neteyam and Loâak aim buying it so aoânung had to come with some Metkayina specialty and gifts and maybe even fruitier a song đ but Jake is just a protective dad and it turned down to reader scolding 4 dudes whoâs like almost twice her size about how sheâs mature enough to know who would treat her right and stuff and kiri, Tuk and neytiri is just enjoying the scene đ
I Hold The World, But You
Ao'nung x Sully!Reader[Word count: 2.8k]
Ask and you shall receive- This is me ditching my written reports to feed all of you <33 Thank you so much for requesting anon!
Warnings: Nothing notable! Please do inform me if there is!
Aoânung has never really known what it means to be alive. He never faced any oppression nor any hardship of notable difficulty due to his social status. Being the son of the oloâeyktan entails so much prestige, but heâs never really known how to live. Not until he met you.
The moment you were born, you have always known the dangers of living. Having been born into a family with warrior parents, who were both victims of war, evident pain is still visible in their eyes. You were Jake Sully and Neytiri te Tskaha Mo'at'iteâs third child, their first-born daughter after they decided to call Graceâs daughter, Kiri, their very own. Growing up as the daughter of the Toruk Makto and oloâeyktan of the Omatikaya meant bearing the horrors of reality that the naâvi have been facing for years. Your father was deemed responsible for leading the forest people into many victories against the sky people, along with your mother and the former oloâeyktan, Tsu'tey te Rongloa Ateyitan, one of the finest warriors that the omatikaya clan who was known for leading the naâvi against the RDA forces in the assault on The Tree of Souls. Â
âI tried to kill your father the first time we met.â
Having been born into Jake Sullyâs family meant so much more than being a warriorâs child. Your childhood was filled with love. Your older brothers, Neteyam and Loâak, complete polar opposites but are both very protective of their younger siblings. Neteyam, the finest candidate for the next oloâeyktan, the one who obeys to live up to expectations and earn the title of being a mighty warrior, and Loâak, the older brother who gets into so much trouble to try and live up to expectations, most protective of you, but incomparable to your father, who acts as both armor and bow against the dangers of the world.
You grew up being taken care of by your older sister Kiri, befriending nature through her imaginative mind and immense affinity for connecting herself with the things that surround her. Your family always knew that there was something special going on between Kiri and the world itself. As if sheâs connected to the things you see everyday, she would always see things from a perspective that you would assume Eywa would have. Â
The scientists were not the only people left in Pandora. You have also been introduced to Spider, a human child that was too young to be put through the cryo chambers. He has greeted each of you as friends, and you do the same with him. Despite your motherâs distaste in his presence, she couldnât really do anything, for you and your siblings loved him as you would a friend. You thought he was a strong person. Someone you look up to, because he always seems to overcome his limitations as a human.
It wasnât long before Tuktirey was born. The most adorable sister you could ever have, although a bit of a telltale, much to your brotherâs chagrin, she was loved by the whole family. She looks like a bit of your father, and a bit of your mother. Tuk practically looks like a mix of your parents. You love it when she would play with your braids. But most of all, you love it when she would turn to you for more stories and dreams that you would have, carrying the innocent curiosity that a child like her would have. Â
You loved your siblings. You really do.
But right now? Things are just being so ridiculous.
âNo, you cannot court my sister, Aoânung,â Neteyam shook his head firmly, placing a protective arm in front of you, attempting to shield you from your suitor. There your brother was again. Heâs having one of those stingy fits where he would deprive you and your lover of spending time together. Apparently, there was this thing called âcodesâ, where you cannot see your friendâs sister in a romantic way. The idea of it was ridiculous for you. Â
Really.
âBrother, you cannot have a say in this. You are not the one who is being courted,â you pushed his hand away, flashing a bashful smile at Aoânung, being enraptured by his viridian eyes. Your eyes were swirling with love and a mix of nervousness as they met those of Aoânungâs, only to be interrupted by Neteyam. âYou are not to be courted by him (y/n), that is final.âÂ
Just what bad deed have you done to deserve this? You obeyed your elders, went to hunt when told to, helped your fellow naâvi when being asked for help, learned healing, and healed others. Eywa! You even learned to cook many dishes after hearing your grandmother complain about how the food being prepared is becoming bland, if it were not for her cooking teylu. You would always say yes to anything that your family asks of you. Â
You always thought that you would not be able to say no to your family. Maybe there are things that do surprise you. Just like how your brother Loâak, is hissing at Aoânung at this very moment. Â
âWhat is going on?â you ran towards the direction of the two young men, carrying firewood that your mother had asked you to fetch for her. There, you found your older brother hissing at your friend, for an unknown reason that somehow, you didnât want to know. Therefore, being the most resourceful person in the scene, you opted for the firewood, pushing them in your brother's arms and pulling him away from the metkayina boy. âI am sorry Aoânung, we will see you tomorrow!â With a sweet smile on your lips, how could Aoânung complain? A boy whoâs as smitten as him could never go against your wishes to stop the fight before it escalates. Aoânungâs head always tends to tell him to go big or go home, but right now, that saccharine smile was his priority. He wouldnât take the risk and make you cry, no. Â
He would rather battle a hundred akula than do that. He vowed to protect you after all. Â
Even from himself.
But that one just seemed impossible. He feels Eywa whispering to him that you are his muntxate. Â
He sees you as someone he would spend the rest of his life with.
Arriving at your marui, you sighed at your fatherâs questioning gaze after just seeing you drag your older brother back, as if he was asking just what trouble he got up to. Â
âWhat is it this time, Loâak?â He crossed his arms, tapping his left foot in impatience. You squinted at your father, knowing how heâd react if he knew he was in a disagreement with Aoânung. Â
âDad, I found him hissing at Aoânung againâ!â âYou telltaleâ I knew that bastard had a bad influence on you!â Loâak hissed, his tail swaying back and forth with betrayal written on his eyes. You scoffed, side-eyeing him for a second before facing your father with pleading eyes. Â
âBravo Zuluââ âDad!â you yelled in disbelief, your jaw dropping when your father shook Loâakâs hand with pride evident on his face, menacing grins both on their faces. You could feel a migraine turning into aneurysm when your eldest brother entered the marui, âDad, you wouldnât believe Aoânungâ Oh, youâre here baby sis!â He chuckled nervously once he noticed your small figure in front of his father. You responded with a glare, crossing your arms at the three men towering over you who take pleasure in making Aoânung suffer. Â
Clearing his throat, Neteyam puts a hand on your shoulder, coaxing you out of the pod, telling you that he has something to share with your father and Loâak. Refusing to be excluded in a conversation you knew was going to be about how they were going to torment the metkayina you love, you stood your ground and bore your fangs, something that you did very seldom towards your family. Â
âNo.âÂ
Neteyam squinted at you in return, turning to your father for help, instantly getting his support in a matter of a few seconds. âYeah babygirl, we really need to talk about that trouble tailing your shadow every minute of the day, âkay?â Your father said, giving you a smile of reassurance and pressed a kiss on your forehead that did not faze you, even for a bit. Fate seems to be on your fatherâs side as you heard your mother calling for you in the background. You groaned in annoyance, rubbing a palm on your face causing Loâak to snicker at you, âOh yeah sis, best get moving before mom gives you a whooping huh?â Â
Youâd definitely get back at him when the time comes for him and Tsireya.
Bearing no choice in the matter, you were forced to evacuate your home and walked towards the direction of your mother.Â
Your brothers and your father on the other hand, were having the time of their lives imparting their knowledge about your suitor and what they would be doing whenever they would see the boy approach you. They have devised âthe most sneakyâ plans to make Aoânung back out in his courting, but were not able to deduce that the said young man was actually on his way to their pod as they were conversing with each other, bringing them to this very moment.
âI would like to court your daughter, sir. She is as beautiful as the ocean, and her whole being might as well be my sustenance as I cannot imagine life without her.â
The naâvi are known to be spiritually connected to Eywa, singing and dancing is embedded in their hearts. So no one could really blame Aoânung when he broke into a song.
âI want to court your daughter,â he started, undulating notes while clenching his fist.
His eyes meet Loâakâs and then Neteyamâs, going back to Jakeâs, âI know you donât think I ought to.â He smiled, reminiscing his earliest memories with you, a smile tugging at his lips, âIâm not bad, Iâm a great guy youâll see,â
âI think that you should beââ
They were all sitting on the marui, silence overtaking when Jake suddenly slammed a hand on the floor, hiding his face from view, until Loâak burst into fits of laughter, wheezing at Aoânung his father and Neteyam following suit. Aoânung chose to ignore Loâakâs outburst, pursing his lips in deep contemplation. He would definitely get him back for this when he asks his parents to court Tsireya. Aoânung licked his lips out of nervousness, seeking validation from your fatherâs eyes.
âIâll be honest Aoânung. I donât care if you're the goddamn chiefâs son,â Jake straightened his posture, emphasizing that he was much mightier than Aoânung was at the moment, he was Toruk Makto for godâs sake. âYouâre not good enough for my daughter, and I donât want you around her, end of story.â Â
Aoânung winced at Jakeâs statement, his insecurities taking over his mind. He was the mightiest hunter in the clan thatâs for sure, but whoâs to say that you were looking for a hunter? A naâvi as charming and lovely as you is sought by most men. He would know because you were much like his sister, whom he finds himself being protective of, most of the time.Â
âWith all due respect JakeSully, I understand why you are being protective of her. I have a sister myself, and might I remind you, your son desires to court her tooâ So why donât you give me one lastââ
âGet outta here.â
He sang his heart out, yet he still got denied?
Does Eywa hate him? Aoânung immediately mutters an apology after thinking that way, his mind going in circles as he thought about his options. Then he remembered, go big or go home. Of course the answer to his problems has always been inside of him.
And so, Aoânung prepared all sorts of things that he could give to show you and your family that heâs a good provider. He foraged in the morning, hunted in the afternoon, twisted the most intricate design he could do on a necklace. This very process went on and on for days. He figured that he would rather put his feelings into action than waste his time bumping shoulders with your brothers to convince them to let him see you. He knew that they would be as stubborn if he didnât show them what he could do. Â
His preparation did not go over five days, eager to please you in a matter of short time. He wants to prove himself and he will. After putting his gifts into baskets, he asked Tsireya to come with him in an attempt to distract Loâak and avoid disruptions from him. His sister was aware of the Sully brothersâ antics and pitied her own brother, giving him a nod of agreement and took one of the baskets to carry towards the direction of your home. He carried in his left arm the biggest catch he could find that day to offer to your family, along with numerous baskets balancing on his right arm. Â
It didnât take long until he reached the opening of your marui, catching the whole family on the floor, preparing dinner. He carefully placed the baskets on the side of the marui and kneeled before the entrance, making you raise your eyebrow at the sudden gesture. Your heart soared when you heard him speak, âYawntu, I ask for permission to extend this gesture as the beginning of our courtship,â his voice growing smaller as he went on, âSo, I offer you this necklace as a promise of love and declaration of commitment to you and only you..â Â
He pulled out a smaller basket from the satchel he was carrying, presenting you with the most exquisite necklace you have ever seen, precious stones attached to both ends of the fang in the center. You could feel your face heating up, getting nudged by your mother, with Kiri snorting at the corner as soon as she laid her eyes on your flushed face, and Tuk, she was giggling on your motherâs lap, casting a knowing grin at you. Â
âI acceptââÂ
âNo. no. no.â Jake immediately interjected the proposal, standing up from his position, towering over Aoânung in a matter of seconds, effectively making Aoânung feel intimidated, his tail swishing in newfound threat, whilst your fatherâs was flicking from left to right, the end of his tail dragging on the floor to display his protectiveness over you. Proving to be your fatherâs sons, Neteyam and Loâak copied him, standing behind their father, hissing at your suitor.
You have prayed to Eywa that she would somehow bless you with everlasting patience, but perhaps she simply does not want to show mercy to your father and older brothers. Â
As if Kiri, Tuk and Neytiri were anticipating what was going to happen, they all huddled up together in one corner, deciding to watch things unfold.
âYes, I accept.â You said with gritted teeth, walking towards the entrance, your tail in full display as it seemingly found vigor from all the pent up anger that you have been feeling ever since your brothers found out about Aoânungâs plans to court you. Your motherâs smile widened in pride as she saw you display protectiveness over the mate you wanted to choose. You glared at your father, walking in front of Aoânung to shield him from their gaze. Â
âThis is my life, and I will find a mate for myself,â you said, âI have been nothing but compliant my whole life, and I will not break that streak by not following my heart!â Â
The three tall men feet taller than you gulped, their ears flattened at your dilated pupils and snarl, currently afraid for themselves. You momentarily turned at Aoânung, smiling at him sweetly and showed him your neck, gesturing for him to put on the necklace that he had assembled for you, earning angry hisses from your father, making you huff, unfazed by his threats.Â
âI will rip your throat into shreds if you so much hurt a single hair onââ âMaâJake.â
âOh no, dad we are not done yet,â you crossed your arms, making Jake look away in defeat. Neteyam chuckled at his fatherâs surrender, making you raise an eyebrow at your brothers, âThe two of you have a lot to explain as well.â âWe do?â Neteyam frowned, making him elbow Loâak. âDamn sis, I have a good reason forââ âNo you donât! You are in the middle of asking Tsireya to be her mate too!â Â
As if on cue, they all sat before you simultaneously, their tails tucked between their legs. They could only wince at your words, a flurry of apologies thrown at Aoânung, making you raise your nose up at your brothers and father, threatening them that if they so much treat your suitor badly again, you would find a way to live in a separate marui with Aoânung. Â
And they knew to take your words seriously. Â

Believe me I get it bestie. Even as I was writing it, Iâm like âwhy canât that be me?âđ©
Iâm glad you liked it đ«¶đŸ plenty more Loâak coming this month!
Kinktober 8
đMinors Do Not Interactđ
Kinktober Masterlist
A/N: I think this is one of my faves. I can't explain why it's just so hot to me, but it just is. I hope you guys enjoy! All characters are aged up.
Pairing: Lo'ak x Fem!Omatikaya!Reader
Warnings: Voyeurism, Masturbation, P in V, Creampie, Lo'ak kinda being a hoe lol
You shouldnât be here. You absolutely should turn around and continue about your business. Pretend that you didnât see anything and go home. And yet, here you stood, eyes locked with Loâak who had his cock buried to the hilt in some girl that he had pinned up against the trunk of a tree. Youâd heard the moaning and groaning and thought someone was in need of help, but nothing could have prepared you for this. And whatâs more, Loâak noticed you immediately and he didnât let your watchful eye stop him from continuing. In fact, it seemed like he held your gaze even harder. Like he was silently urging you to keep your eyes on him the whole time. Your stomach tightens and your tewng grows damp under his intense stare. You canât seem to peel your eyes away from his while he bucks his hips up into his latest conquest making loud squelching sounds fill the air.
âOh fuck, Loâak!â she cries out.
âYou like that?â he says biting his lip. With his eyes still on you, itâs like heâs speaking directly to you and you canât help the way your thighs squeeze together trying to calm your poor throbbing clit that was dying for attention. Your ears drop to your head and your face heats up when you just slightly nod your head at him. He smirks at you knowing that you were enjoying the show.
The ache becomes too much for you to bear so you let your hand ghost over your clothed pussy, tracing your fingers up and down.
âOh, fuck baby, just like that.â He breathes out while he speeds up his pace.
Something about this whole scenario gave you a massive head rush. Knowing that he was basically using this girl as a living cocksleeve while he was thinking about fucking you and watching you play with yourself, it was all soâŠdelicious. Small pants and moans leave your lips while your fingers continue to rub light circles into your clit.
His moans get louder and deeper as he watches you and he wishes desperately that he was the one touching you right now. His thoughts of wanting to fill you make his head spin as he chases his approaching high inside this other girl whose name heâs already forgotten.
âShit, shit, shit, Iâm gonna cum.â He pants out.
âAh! Yes! Me too!â
You lick your lips and nod at him quietly asking him to let you see it.
Deep guttural groans leave his lips when he spills his load inside of her and despite his best efforts to keep his eyes focused on you, they still roll back as he reaches his peak.
Seeing him in such a state, tips you over your own edge and you fall to your knees under the force of your own release.
When your eyes find his again, heâs grinning at you with his chest rising and falling trying to steady his breaths. You stand and readjust your clothing so that you can finally head back. Before you do, you look back at him one last time and all he offers you is a quick wink before he finally takes his eyes off you and pretends to be interested in whatâs-her-name again.

Eywa's Sign
lo'ak x metkayina reader
Summary: The Great Mother shows two young na'vi how connected they truly are
CW- None!
Author's Note- Not proofread! I am so so in love with Lo'ak Sully it's bad for me!
From the moment that the Sully family relocated to AwaâAtlu, the heart of the ocean clans, Loâak had been entranced. He found beauty in every corner. From the way the orange sunrise reflected over the crystal blue sea to the mighty tulkun songs that pierced the waves through to the surface. But most of all, he found beauty in her.
Loâak first laid eyes on (Y/N) on his second day in the village. Oloâeyktan Tonowari had mentioned a niece who would help train him and his siblings during their introduction to the clan, but she had been off on a swim then. Tsireya assured Loâak and his siblings that theyâd love her, behind her quiet disposition, she was a good and kind soul, deeply empathetic and caring.Â
And so when he saw her for the first time, waiting on the pier with Tsireya, Aonung, and Roxto, his breath caught in his throat.
There she stood, her long black hair flowing down her back like the waves she was raised in, a mixture of curls and braids similar to his own, with a band of shells holding it out of her face. Her skin was a crystal shade of light teal, with dark wavy stripes along her arms and legs. Her eyes were narrow, green like the jungles of his homeland, and the kelp forests of hers. She was the embodiment of the oceanâs beauty. And when she smiled at him? He got so nervous he nearly threw himself off the deep end.
After that first swim lesson, (Y/N) had taken it upon herself to show him the way of water. She made him feel more seen and understood in the few days theyâd spent together than anyone had in his life. Going for late night swims with her, having private sign language lessons with her, and walking down the beach with her after being rejected by his father.
This was one of those moments.
âThis storm will pass,â (Y/N) said as she lightly jogged behind Loâak, trying to keep up with him as they walked through the tree lined lagoon.Â
Loâak had just gotten an earful from his father ab0ut bonding with the outcast Tulkun, Payakan. (Y/N) hadnât heard much better from her father, but for Loâak, this was the most recent in a long line of strikes with his father. It seemed like no matter what he did, he could never get it right. He had hoped that with their relocation to the sea, he would have a chance to regain his fatherâs praise, but since their arrival heâd earned nothing but more of his fatherâs ire.Â
(Y/N) was beginning to think she should just leave the forest boy alone to gather his thoughts, but just when she was about to turn around, he stuck out his arm, holding back a large leaf for her so that it wouldnât smack her in the face. She took the gesture as an invitation, and so she sped up until she was right behind him.Â
âLoâak!â she said loudly, grabbing his hand.Â
Loâak stopped in his tracks, turning to face her but still not looking directly at her.Â
âI know your father is angry at you, and I know youâre disappointed in yourself, but I am so so proud of you.â
Loâak scoffed. âWhatâs there to be proud of?â
âLoâak, I saw something today, out there on the reef. I saw a forest boy chosen by tulkun. Loâak,â she gently cupped his cheek and forced him to look her in her eyes. â This is no small thing.â
âYouâre right,â Loâak said with disdain. âItâs not. I just bonded with the only tulkun in the ocean I was supposed to stay far away from. Of course itâd be me. Of course Iâd find the only outcast tulkun and claim him as a brother.â
He shook his head, looking out at the island, watching the Metkayina do their daily tasks. âMaybe your clan is right. Iâll never be anything but an outcast! Demon blood!â He held up his five fingered hand. âAlien, thatâs all theyâll ever see!â
Without hesitation, (Y/N) grasped his extra finger, both of her hands curling around it tightly. Loâakâs eyes fluttered half closed as he took in the sensation.Â
âI see you,â (Y/N) said gently.
Loâak looked up at that, orange eyes deeply searching hers.Â
âI see you,â she reiterated. âYou are brother of tulkun. No one and nothing can take away what that means from you. You are one of us now. This place is your home now, just as much as itâs mine.â
Loâak smiled at her. There were no words for how beautiful he found her in that moment. He felt the urge to do something. Cup her face, touch her lips, maybe even kiss her. He looked down shyly at the thought.Â
Suddenly, (Y/N) grabbed his other hand and began to pull him in the opposite direction.Â
âCome. Come!â she said with a giggle at his confused face. âThereâs somewhere Iâd like to show you.â
°â§đâ.àłđȘžàż*:
Loâakâs eyes widened with awe and wonder as his ilu surfaced alongside (Y/N)âs. The girl had refused to tell him where on Pandora she was dragging him off to- something about the element of surprise.Â
She turned and smiled at him as she saw the look on his face. âThis is the Cove of the Ancestors. Our most sacred place.â
They guided their ilus to the center of the cove, the floating rocks directly above them, and a large plant glowing in shades of purple and blue beneath them.
âThis is the spirit tree,â (Y/N) said.
Loâak sighed in awe. âItâs just like the tree of voices in the forest.â
(Y/N) smiled. âSee? Weâre more alike than you thought.â
Loâak smiled back at that.Â
They sat in a peaceful silence for a beat, just looking at each other, before (Y/N) nodded her head towards the spirit tree. âCome.â She slid off her ilu, Loâak following after her, and together they dove down to the tree.
Once they were directly in front of it, (Y/N) gestured with her hands, which Loâak understood to be Metkayina sign language for âwe can breathe if we connect.â
She attached her kuru to one of the vibrant purple leaves, Loâak following suit.Â
His pupils dilated as he heard the voices of those who came before him. Eytukan, his grandfather, the warrior Tsuâtey te Rongloa Ateyitan, and so many more, their wisdom being whispered to him like sage in his ear.
He turned and looked at (Y/N), watching as she shut her eyes at her ancestorâs council. She looked so beautiful like that. Eyes shut, in her natural state of being under the sea, her curly hair floating around her face.
A few minutes passed before they both disconnected, and (Y/N) swam directly in front of him, a warm smile on her face.Â
Thank you for bringing me here, Loâak signed to her.Â
(Y/N) signed back, My home is now yours. It was about time you saw this place.Â
(Y/N) took both of Loâakâs large hands in hers, looking up at him with bright, admiring eyes.Â
She was the only one who ever looked at him like that. Like he was worth something- like she believed in him. His heart swelled at the idea that she trusted and cared about him enough to bring him to the most sacred place of her people- that she saw him as one of the people.Â
Suddenly, a glowing pink light caught his eye. (Y/N) and Loâak looked down to see a group of vibrantly glowing pink fish swimming in a ring around their joined hands. (Y/N)âs looked up at Loâak, her eyes wide. Loâakâs widened too, though he wasnât sure why. (Y/N) had never shown him any fish like this, and he didnât understand their behavior, just swimming around his and (Y/N)âs wrists. And yet, swim on they did. Around and around in circles around the two young naâviâs hands, creating a sacred union between them.Â
Finally, one by one, the fish swam off in a line towards the spirit tree, their soft glow creating an air of love.
°â§đâ.àłđȘžàż*:
Loâak and (Y/N)Â made their way back to the main village, walking along the beach together in a surprisingly intimate moment.Â
Finally, Loâak asked, âWhat were those things?â
A smile graced (Y/N)âs face. âThey are aungia, Loâak,â she said softly. âMessengers of Eywa. When the time is right, come from the spirit tree to give us signs from our great mother.â
Loâakâs breath hitched in his throat. âSo the message for usâŠâÂ
(Y/N) chuckled shyly. âYes, Loâak. Us being together is⊠right. Weâre meant to be connected, in some way or other. Eywa has blessed our union.â
Loâak could feel his heart pounding in his chest. He cupped her face gently with his hand, and she leaned into his touch, her eyes closed in comfort. âWell, in that case, thereâs something Iâd like to do, if youâll allow.â
(Y/N) opened her eyes to see Loâak look down at her lips, and then back up at her. Before she could allow herself to shy away from the moment, she leaned forward and softly placed her lips on his, wrapping her arms around his neck. Loâak responded in kind, placing his hands gently, yet firmly around her waist, pulling her closer.
There, with his lips touching herâs, the eclipsing sky shining above them, the sound of the sea all around them, everything felt entirely right.Â
And somewhere, Eywa looked down upon her children, bound together by love and spirit, and smiled.

Midnight Rain II
Lo'ak x Omatikaya!reader
Warnings: angst
Word count: 2,2k words
Notes: i apologise for the enormous wait and thank you for being so patient with me, but i needed inspiration for this, and now I have it besties, and this will end up being three parts! enjoy x
Na'vi words used: ma 'ite - daughter; sa'nok - mother
previous part (x)
It came like a postcard, picture perfect, shiny family, holiday, peppermint candy
But for him it's every day, so I peered through a window, a deep portal, time travel
All the love we unravel, and the life I gave away
âDo you think youâll ever want to settle down?â Loâak was staring far into the distance, and you ceased to follow suit at his words, your head snapping in his direction and taking in his beautiful features, his shaved head, only on one side - your doing, but he did lose a bet, so he couldnât complain too much about it.
You looked at his eyes, that were flickering momentarily in your direction, noticing you in his periphery, trying to make it inconspicuous that he was not as nonchalant about the topic as he may appear at first glance. You looked at his ears, twitching in anticipation and his chest, that was expanding and dropping at a higher rate than what you knew it normally did, and at his skin that was glowing a little more intensely that it should as the sun hit it, probably due to the sheen layer of sweat now covering it.
You smiled a little at his nervousness, at his inability to just get it out, whatever it was that bothered him, that was on his mind - never honest, never direct, always trying to appear less interested, less invested, less caring than he actually was. In reality, Loâak was one of the most sensitive people you knew. Everything got to him, everything bothered him, because he cared. He cared and wanted people to care just as much as he did, deep down inside.
You turned your face to look at whatever it was he was looking at. It was beautiful, this place you found together, riding west 'til your ikran was so tired they were squeaking in pain, and you knew it was time to settle in for the night, at the edge of a cliff overlooking a long, noisy waterfall, with birds flying above the river it crashed into and hunting for some dinner. You hunted your own, which was now cooking on a fire, while you watched the sun set over the mountains.Â
âMm, I donât know. Seems a bit boring and dooming, donât you think?â You tried to hide the smirk in your tone. You needed to make him say what he wanted to say, and the only way to do that was to get him angry and frustrated. It was a painful method, but it always worked with Loâak.Â
âWhy would it be dooming?â His voice increased in pitch, and he coughed in an attempt to hide it. It was working.Â
âI donât know⊠the thought of spending your whole life with just one person, in just one place, doing the same few things everyday⊠thatâs what being doomed looks like to me.âÂ
Loâak scoffed and turned around, fully facing you, his knee brushing up against your thigh.Â
âYou think finding your soulmate, finding someone to love and who would love you forever, unconditionally, regardless of how badly you fuck up, how messed up you are inside is dooming? You think the idea of belonging just to one person so fucking inconceivable?âÂ
You couldnât stop the chuckle that blew past your lips and the way your body moved on its own and tackled your annoying, frustrating boyfriend, who could only be persuaded to confess through deceit and manipulation. Your body felt alive on top of his, like it belonged on him, with him, and you eyed him amusedly, watching as his frown dissipated, if only slightly. Your hand found his forehead, that it smoothed, and his eyes softened as they found yours, and knew he had been played.Â
âYou suck.â You laughed harder, throwing your head back, letting your braids tickle his neck and chin, and for the first time in your life, you were left breathless by a boy, by a pair of lips as they crashed into yours, by the promise of what they entailed, that you were scared of but wanted to know, wanted to experience for yourself, with him and only him.
It was fun and games - you and him. It always had been, since you were young. You were wild and he loved the thrill of being in your presence, loved being liberated. You laughed and you joked together, you found unspoken-for places in the world and untapped potentials in yourselves. Loâak was the outcast to everyone else, the untamed one in the eyes of the world, but to you, he was what grounded you, and you were what freed him. When you kissed him for the first time, a few months ago, you did it because you wanted to. You did because you were curious to know, you did it just to do it. Because you liked him, and you knew he loved you. But somehow, this guy youâve known all your life managed to turn it around, managed to make you fall in love - make you into something you thought would shackle you, would ruin you, but now, as it happened, you didnât feel any of those things. You just felt warm.Â
âSo, would you ever want to settle down?âÂ
âMaybe it wouldnât be so bad. As long as itâs with you.âÂ
âAre you listening?âÂ
The little tap in your shoulder, combined with the words you didnât expect to hear pulled you out of a dream, a memory, one far away now, too far to reach, evoking feelings in you never to be felt again. Because the feelings, and the memories, all had one common denominator - the boy you loved, that you gave up, whose heart you shattered, whose heart you craved more and more each day.Â
"Yes. Sorry, Tarsem. Yes, we can do that tomorrow. I'll be here first thing, if that's alright with you."
"That's more than alright with me. You're my best warrior, it has to be."
You smiled gently at your new Olo'eyktan. He wasn't new, not anymore. But after 18 years of knowing just one person fulfil the role, it would take a long time for Tarsem to earn his stripes enough for Jake Sully to be replaced in your mind.
You bid him goodbye with a smile and a gestured "I see you", and left the tent without another word. You were surprised to see Mo'at at the entrance, but still, you greeted her warmly. You loved Mo'at. She was like a mother to you... or grandmother, but she hated feeling old, so you always called her sa'nok. You also called Neytiri sa'nok, so it got confusing sometimes.
"Ma' ite, are you finished with the Olo'eyktan?"
"Yes, sa'nok. He's free for you, if you wish."
"Actually, I wanted to speak to you."
You frowned a little at the confession. Mo'at never sought you out personally. She never had to. Especially since the Sullys left, she was the only family you had left... the only family she had left. You spent most of your free time with her, and so this rose suspicion in your mind and your heart rate in your chest.
"Is something wrong, ma sa'nok?"
She giggled at your troubled disposition.
"Does anything have to be wrong for me to want to talk to my erratic, harebrained... brave daughter?"
You rolled your eyes, but joined her in her laughter.
"No, but I was coming by your tent tonight anyway, so the fact that you came for me might mean there's something urgent."
"Come, help me back. I'm an old woman, you need to respect your elders, young lady."
"Yes, ma. So what is it?" It was nice and comfortable being with Mo'at. She has known you all your life, and somehow still loved you, and accepted you as one of her own after your parents both died - your dad in the war against the Sky People, your mother giving birth to you. She used to tell you were just like her, a maverick, a nightcrawler, a free spirit with little moral compass to point her North, at least until she met your father.
"Ma 'ite... are you happy?" It took a while for you to fall into step with her again after that, your body almost short-circuiting at her question. You had no problem lying, not only that - you were good at it. But not to her. You owed her too much. You frowned as you answered.
"I'm... happy to be able to help, sa'nok. Happy to fight the good fight, happy to be able to take care of you, and the clan."
"It's bad manners to lie to the people you love."
"I'm not ly-"
"You are. That much is clear. You haven't gone exploring in months. You. The most restless person I've ever had the misfortune to have under my care."
"It's been hard, sa'nok. The Sky Peo-"
"Never stopped you before."
There was a reason Mo'at was Tsa'hik. A reason she was the spiritual leader of the Omatikaya, a reason she was still here while so many others weren't.
"I'm sure he misses you too." she smiled slyly as you reached the tent and she turned around, taking your hands into hers. "No adventure is worth taking without the one that made it worthwhile to begin with, is it?"
You had no words to that, but the tears falling silently down your face were enough to say everything you couldn't, not out loud.
"I heard the weather's really nice in Awa'atlu this time of year. I don't think you've ever been, right? Maybe that should change."
Your mouth opened in shock at her words, at the blessing that you think you needed to hear, at a sign that maybe, despite all the heartbreak you left in your wake, there was still a chance for you to see him, a chance to try to see if a life with less freedom was still freeing in itself just by his presence alone, and a life with less to see was still everything because the world was in his eyes.
"Go. I'll talk to Tarsem tomorrow."
Your heart was thumping in your chest so hard, it felt like it was trying to break through your ribcage and escape, just so it could reach him faster than the rest of your body possibly ever could. But nevertheless, you got on your ikran in the dead of night and left, and you knew by the morning, everything would be different. Because it was clear now, as much as it needed to be, that just as Mo'at said, what always made your life fun wasn't the adventures, and the freedom, and the recklessness, it was who you shared them with. And you didn't know what would happen tomorrow, or what you would find, but you needed him to know, that despite how stupid you had been, that you loved him, and you wanted him to show you the life you never thought you wanted, but now couldn't fathom living without.
It was near midday when Awa'atlu came in sight, the farthest you have ever made it East. It was beautiful and lively, and despite the nerves, you couldn't help picturing your life in it. A horn made your presence known to the clan, and you saw people gathering on a wide patch of golden sand where you presumed you should be able to land. A few navy blue Na'vi brought a smile to your face and booming in your ears, and you knew you were in the right spot when you spotted Tuk jumping in the air, screaming at your sight.
Although a short reunion, it was not without its flagrant emotions and unstoppable tears. Your family was here, and although Lo'ak wasn't, it was happiness personified and you don't remember the last time you felt so much, so deeply.
"He usually takes a walk on the beach east of the village. If you just walk around, you'll definitely spot him." Kiri said, a knowing glimmer in her eye. "We all know that's what you're here. Come on, scat. He's been sulking for too long." You kissed them all on the cheek, hugging your sister and took off, excitement bubbling within you.
He was easy enough to spot, alone on the beach, his azure back to you and his hair that was now tied behind his back blowing gently with the breeze. You spotted the hair tie and realise with a pang of hurt that you didn't recognise it. You knew it was irrational. Of course he was going to get new adornments in the time you were apart. And yet still, it was just a bitter reminder of the time you lost, of the memories you could have been making together, that were now just ashes in the wind.
His name got stuck in your throat as you tried to push it out when you realised he was not alone. In front of him, hidden from your initial inspection stood a girl, turquoise-skinned, petite and gentle, with enough love and affection in her eyes to blind you, to wish it had. Because if it had, you might have missed the kiss, the laughter booming in his chest, his hands reaching to caress her cheek, your hopes shattering in a million pieces.
I guess, sometimes we all get, just what we wanted, just what we wanted
And he never thinks of me, except when I'm on tv

masterlist / loâak sully
it was a pleasant midday in the forest of pandora. the sun was blazing brightly and a cool, steady breeze would caress the leaves and flora, giving a melodic tune around you and loâak.
your feet were dipped in the crystal clear water of a nearby pond with a tiny stream. your back laid against the plush green grass, arms cushioning your head as you kept your eyes closed and enjoyed the peace. the twittering and humming of the fauna buzzed in your pointed ears making them twitch at every noise.
a touch on your ankles made you flinch and lift your head, elbows pushing your upper body into a half-sitting position. loâakâs head peeked over the surface, water lapping at his chin. his eyes shined with a gleam that pulled a lazy smile upon your lips, he always made you feel weightless. he smiled back as he swam closer to the shore.
he crossed his arms as they rested beside your thighs, his head lolling to the side as he stared up at you with a slight raise of his brows and the smile that still sat on his lips. his braids fell over his shoulders, the two with beads covered an eye as they always did. on impulse you leaned over and moved them away, your fingers dragging down loâakâs face that stopped at his chin before pulling away.
âwe should get back to practicing.â you blurt out as you pull your legs out of the water and move to grab your bow.
âwhat? oh, come on!â âwe have rested long enough, we must train to be mighty warriors for the people.â
with a popped hip you set your hand onto the skin while you hold your bow and arrows beside you. you took the eye roll the boy gave to your reply but watched as he pushed out the water, droplets sliding over his stomach and stripes. they caught your eyes and you were transfixed until a nudge to your shoulder snapped you away.
âsee something you like?â his cocky tone made you feel warm but you just rolled your eyes before walking back to the training grounds. his laughter followed behind.
you re-entered the area where loâak set up targets to practice your shooting. you did some quick cleaning as you waited for loâak to catch up to you, when he was taking forever you decided to start on your own.
so you notched an arrow along the string and pulled with your fingers. you sucked a breath in, making sure your stomach was solid and your arms werenât wavering. when the moment felt right you released the arrow and it flew straight into the bullseye. you smiled.
âwow! nice shot!â his voice came from above and you looked up into the trees.
he was perched on a low branch with his legs swinging in the air and his tail swaying behind him. his forearms sat on his thighs and he hunched over with his hair dancing in the wind.
âwhy donât you come down and show me what you got? Since youâre always bragging.â you held your chin high.
you saw the shake of his head but couldnât see the smile on his lips or how his eyes sparkled as he stared down at you. he gathered his bow and arrows, and jumped his way down to the forest floor with a muffled thump. he pushed his braids behind his ears before taking your spot.
âwatch and learn, syulang (flower).â he said cockily and got into his stance.
you rolled your eyes but ignored the rapid beating of your heart as you watched loâak. not taking your eyes off him for a second and letting them wander as he was distracted. you watched how his muscles flexed and his back pulled taunt as he was in an aiming position. his tail skimmed the grass by his feet and his ears twitched now and then if one of the forest creatures cried out.
he stayed in the stance for a while and you were about to speak up just as he let the arrow fly and sink into the bark of the tree, just beside your arrow.
ânot bad, not bad. but you were supposed to hit the middle dead on,â you pointed a finger at the arrows, âthat is not dead on.â
he scuffed and pointed to said arrow, âsorry, but there seems to be an object in the way. someone forgot to take their arrow back.â he walked to the target and yanked both arrows out, and walked back, handing yours over.
âmaybe we should work on some combat. i think our shooting is at its best right now.â you put your bow on the ground and spun to face loâak. his eyes just watched you.
âloâak? are you fine with combat?â a step forward and he snapped out of his trance.
ây-yeah. combat is fine. but i wonât go easy on you.â he smiled and his fangs poked out. it made your tail waggle.
âwouldnât be practicing if you went easy on me.â you crouched into a defensive position. the right arm pulled back with your left hand touching the ground. your tail swung low to the grass, shifting over the blades. your ears stood at attention and you watched loâak get in a similar position.
it was quiet for a few minutes, both of you waiting to see who would make the first move. when the silence stretches on too long, you get closer to loâak and hissed deeply with your fangs showing dominance. he looked thrown off by the display, but it vanished fast and he hissed back and lunged at you.
you rolled out of the way and kept your eyes firmly on his creeping form. your eyes roamed over his body to look for any points of weakness that would allow you to attack. his eyes didnât look to be fully in the moment, his mind elsewhere and you took advantage. you pounced at the boy, hands latching onto his biceps and throwing him to the ground. the two of you tumbled in the grass and rolled to a stop with you straddling loâak and pinning his wrist to the ground.
âthat was an easy win. i thought you werenât going easy on me, syulang?â a smug smile on your face as you let your eyes bounce over loâakâs motionless features. your loose hair fell over your shoulders and formed a curtain, hiding your face from outsiders.
he didnât fight against you or scuff or roll his eyes. he was a blank wall with his eyes following you. you tilted your head, smile slipping. you leaned in closer and peered into his eyes, his widened and you heard the sharp intake of breath.
âdid- did i hurt you?â you let up on his wrists, moving back to give him space to breathe.
loâak started to shift a bit and you moved your hands from his wrist to sitting on the ground beside his armpits to keep you up. he moved his arms and then pushed himself to his forearms, upper body meeting you halfway.
you stared into each otherâs eyes, loâakâs golden orbs hypnotizing you into a calm energy. you were so hypnotized that the smirk on his face went ignored by you and the feeling of his legs wrapping around your waist forced you to move off his lap, positions switched. loâak straddles you while pinning your wrist down. open mouth and wide-eyed, you were stunned into silence.
âgotcha, paskalin (honey)â loâakâs smirk never left his face.
you huffed a laugh, feather top shifting with your breaths. loâakâs braids swung in the air, his beads hitting each other as he tilted his head from side to side. you wouldnât catch his eyes, knowing the heat from his touch would further spread to your face to the tips of your pointed ears.
âwanna go another round?â you heard the smile in his words as the warmth turned to a fire. âuh⊠uhâŠâ your tail moved off the ground and the furred tip grazed over loâakâs leg.
when you made eye contact with the boy still over you, it was like you both could read what the other was thinking. how the sunlight peeking through the leaves shined on them and they were glowing, their eyes staring at each spot on their face making sure to memorize their details. how just a simple touch of skin-to-skin contact makes their heart race quickly. how they so desperately wish to move in closer, breath skating over lips and wishing to know the feeling-
you abruptly pushed loâak in the chest when he moved his hands away. he fell to the floor beside you and you quickly jumped off the grass and walked away. you shook your head free of any thoughts coming to fruition, hair tickling your back.
âhey,â his voice made you jump but you turned to him, âyou okay? i didnât hurt you or anything?â his hands reached out for you. his fingers a gentle caress on your cheek.
your eyes softened at the simple touch, âyes. everything is fine. i just- i just got tired suddenly.â a shaky sigh.
his eyes just studied you for a minute or two before nodding his head and picking up the bows and arrows. he handed over yours and the both of you headed back towards home. neither of you spoke up about those moments during combat training.

HOW CAN I LOSE YOU?
summary: prmoised to a stranger Y/N takes flight and finds herself lost in the pandorian forest, only to be found by a omaticayan boy. who knew that strangers could fall in love so fast?
a/n: 5.7K WORDS bro that's more than my assignments. anyway i am incredibly proud of this fic and i hope you enjoy it as much as i do
ââââ â
*â*â
ââââ
Heat rose through your body, fury filling your insides as the words your mother said repeated in your mind like an intoxicating mantra. You are promised.
Promised? Th only promise is your misery. To think itâs not even someone from your clan. A stranger, an outsider, unknown to you and you were meant to mate. The fury grew even thinking about it.
âY/N? Respond please.â Your mother held her hands on your shoulder as you refused to look in her direction.
âWhat? Iâm being promised to someone I donât even know. Am I meant to be excited?â You spat venom at your mother avoiding her eye contact, swatting her hands off of your body. Â
âY/N! Do not speak to your mother like that!â Always chiming in when he wasnât needed, thatâs what your father did.
âDonât treat your daughter like a peace treaty then!â You shouted back, a sharp finger pointed at your fatherâs chest. You started to walk backwards, hands shaking from the rage racking through your body. âIâm leaving.â
âNo Y/N, you canât leave now, we have things to discuss!â Your mother was desperate walking fast to match the fast pace you had created to reach your ikran.
âYou have nothing to say to me.â Harsh words shot at your mother as you hoped onto your ikran. âGo, Lifo!â Shouting out your banshees name you took off, gusts of wind leaving your parents to stare at their fleeing daughter.
You couldnât remember how long you had been flying, the ongoing replay of the fight with your parents and the doom of your near future plagued your mind. Leaving your ikran to fly into unknown territory, a dense forest filled with a loud glow that encompassed every lifeform.
Landing on a large tree you disconnected from Lifo, the glow was different to your clan, it was much more apparent, the plant life encompassing every step you would take.
Strolling through the forest, you wandered looking for any food or water, as the unexpected trip took a toll on your body, hunger brewing in your stomach creating soft grumbles that harmonized with the sounds of the forest. Inspecting all of the flora around you, you spotted a purple fruit. You only recognized it as the same fruit grew on smaller trees surrounding your village. Â
Picking the fruit, avoiding the thorns on the fruits skin, you took a bite. The flesh of the fruit spilling into your mouth leaving you with an amazing taste and a wash of nostalgia. It was the exact same as home, bringing you back to times when you knew you could run freely and werenât subjected to a life of misery, a life of lack of love.
A sudden crunch of leaves instantly got rid of the nostalgic feeling you had and replaced them with fear, subconsciously holding onto the knife in the loop of your loin cloth as your heart started to beat rapidly.
âWho are you?â A loud voice boomed in front of you. A tall man, braids reaching his shoulders and hand who also reached onto his knife stood tall across from you, his figure intimidating as he questioned you.
âI mean no harm! I am just lost!â You retracted your hand off your knife to surrender yourself to the man in front of you. âI am from the eastern seas, my ikran and I flew too far.â Pointing to your sleeping ikran in the treetops above the pair of you. The mans eyes softened immediately, you noticed a=how the bioluminescent glow of the forest made his features stand out like a flower in a desert.
âAre you alright?â The man asked coming closer, his hand now also abandoning his knife, knowing you were no longer a threat.
âYes, just looking for food.â
âYou cannot stay in the forest at night, youâll die.â Panic rose throughout you as you realised you stood in such hostile foliage. Eyes immediately scanning around where you stood, conscious of the danger surrounding you. âRest within my clan, youâll leave in the morning.â He wasnât asking you, more like a demand.
Nodding hesitantly, you clapped three times to wake Lifo up, watching her wide wings flap down to the ground to let you board her. âPlease lead the way.â
He nodded, calling his ikran to fly high into the sky waiting for you to follow suit. âWhat is your name Ikran girl?â He shouted over the noise of the two of your ikranâs flying.
âItâs Y/NâŠwhat is yours forest boy?â
âNeteyam.â Thatâs a pretty name.
Upon arrival you watched as many people hustled to look at the newcomer. Two women rose to the front, the rest parting to make way for them. Assuming they were important, you greeted them with a bow. âoel ngati kameieâ
The two repeated it before turning aggressively to the boy you knew as Neteyam.
âWho do you bring here?â An older woman asked, she looked wise. Maybe she was Tsaâhik?
âHer name is Y/N, flew over from the eastern seas and got lost in the forest, she is here to rest.â Neteyamâs voice was serious, his face stern, like a man of leadership. Who exactly had you run into in the middle of this forest?
âI seeâŠâ She replied, her eyes gliding over you. Frozen in the moment, her stare was intimidating but so was the hundreds of others that oogled at you. It made the hunger settling in your stomach turn into anxiety.
âFeed this poor girl!â A younger woman replied, coming up beside the Tsaâhik. She was thin, her braids similar to Neteyamâs, feathers adorning her hair, as a small child held tightly onto her hand.
âYes mother.â Neteyam nodded, he looked at you and your frozen form. Laying a soft hand on your shoulder. âCome, your ikran will rest.â He started walking off even before you could process his words but seeing as he was the only person you knew in this place, it was first instinct to follow him around like a lost child.
He lead you into a tent, inside were fruit baskets and water stored in wooden jars. If you werenât so shocked by the continuous new surrounding you wouldâve rushed to the fruit.
âHurry and eat, everyone can hear your stomach.â Neteyam said as he stood next to the fruit, picking one up to put into your hands. Picking the fruit out of his hands, your fingers brushed his palm slightly.
It shouldnât have worked you up so much, but the static between the two of you evoked a small gasp out of you. Neteyam felt the touch too, he just decided to ignore it but seeing your overreaction brought a soft smirk to his face.
âDo not make fun of the guests Neteyam!â A girl pushed between the two of you, giving Neteyam a nudge. She was short, her hair messy and her voice deep.
âI was not sister!â Neteyam scoffed pushing his sister back. She let out an exaggerated gasp holding onto her arm dramatically.
Munching onto the fruit in your hands, you watched the pair of siblingâs bicker in front of you. You wouldâve giggled at their antics if the anxiety of being in this new place wasnât controlling every thought.
âOh! I havenât introduced myself!â The shorter girl turned to you curtly. âI am Kiri, Neteyamâs sister. What is your name?â
âItâs Y/N.â You said with you mouth full, face covered in a sticky sap excreting from the fruits skin.
âThatâs quite pretty, your name.â You heated up, a compliment was rarely something you received.
âThankyou very much.â You smiled at the girl, your gaze distracted by Neteyam who overlooked your conversation, a soft smile glistening over his face. It looked like was almost in awe watching the two women converse.
Neteyam shook his head, realising he left himself loose in his thoughts. Looking over at your messy face he was mesmerised, each of your features perfectly matched the other, you looked so soft yet sharp, so tough but so elegant.
He shouldnât be thinking this, not as an Oloâeyktan, he had duties, responsibilities. He canât develop a liking for another clan woman.
âAre the fruitsâŠgood?â He sounded so awkward, destroying the flow of the conversation between you and Kiri. Kiri snorted in response at her brother, she wasnât dumb, she knew when a boy thought a girl was pretty, especially when its her brother making a fool of himself. Â
You nodded enthusiastically. âTheyâre amazing, thankyou Neteyam.â You had finally finished the fruit, leaving your face and hands sticky. An uncomfortable feeling no doubt.
âIâm uh glad.â Neteyam responded, being slightly deterred as his sister left, poking him in the spine as she snuck out of the tent, leaving Neteyam alone, with thisâŠgirl.
âWhy are you all the way in the forest by the way?â Neteyam asked suddenly, his eyes directly upon yours, looking into them, noticing the glint of sadness that washed over your pupils momentarily.
âI argued with my parents. Flew off in a rush and got distracted as to where I was flying. So now I am here.â You shrugged, taking a seat on the floor of the tent, your legs growing tired from your long journey. Neteyam followed your actions and sat down in front of you. Much closer to where he stood.
âOh, I am sorry.â
âDo not be sorry, my parents should be the sorry ones, but you do not want to be burdened with the quarrels of my family.â A stifled chuckle escaped your throat as you looked up to see Neteyam listening to your ever word.
âI would not be burdened if you decided to talk about it.â His voice was calm, soft, a comforting feeling spreading through your chest as you heard his words.
âThankyou.â
Neteyam nodded, as he patted just above your knee, a soft hand to comfort whatever grief was consuming your emotions. âDo you want to sleep, or would you like to continue to eat?â
âUh, I donât want to eat more than I am allowed to.â
âWell, are you still hungry?â
ââŠyesâ
Neteyam shoved another piece of fruit in your hands. âThen you will eat.â
âThankyou.â You smiled at him, biting into the fruit once again.
Neteyam was compelled by your presence, he had known you for merely an hour but the magnetic connection he felt as he was drawn to you was undeniable. Was he going crazy?
You noticed his heavy stare on you once more. It made you nervous, his eyes looking through you as you sat in front of him. His beauty was one you had never seen, he poise interested you. Were you attracted to this random man? You must be going crazy.
Chewing the food in a slightly rush you watched as Neteyamâs eyes awkwardly shuffled around the room to try and avoid making too much eye contact with you. With a small inhale you tried to gain the courage to break the awkward tension between you two.
âSo Neteyam, you seem important around here, is there a reason why?â Your question surprised Neteyam. He had never met someone who knew nothing of his reputation within the clan.
âI am the future Oloâeyktan, my father is Toruk Makto.â You almost spat out the food in your mouth. You were speaking so casually with the son of Toruk Makto? Not even that, his firstborn son? He must have been staring because you were so informal!
âOh! Son of Toruk Makto. I should have been more formal!â You rushed to stand up again to bow down to him. Scrambling to your feet with speed, you felt a soft grip on your wrist.
There Neteyam looked up at you, his eyes slightlyâŠdisappointed? Was he really that upset about your informalities?
âSit back down Y/N, there is no need to be so formal.â
âAre you sure.â Your voice was quiet, eyes filled with confusion and hesitance as he nodded giving you the go ahead to sit once again.
âYes Iâm sureâŠjust think of me as Neteyam.â
âOkay, Iâll do thatâŠNeteyam.â He smiled at the sound of his name, the way you giggled as you said it, smile shining brightly in the soft moonlight that slipped through the tents curtains.
âWhat are you in your clan?â He asked, trying to keep the conversation flowing with you.
âI am the second daughter of the Oloâeyktan. Nothing special.â You shrugged, avoiding his hardening gaze. His hand returned once again to your thigh, an awkward attempt at comfort but still an attempt.
âYou are a daughter of your clanâs leaders, that is important.â A stern statement filled with pride, his eyes softening while looking at you.
âThankyou.â You said followed with a small yawn, eyes watering slightly. Your body was now feeling the fatigue of the long day that was now behind you.
âOh, that reminds me, sleeping.â A soft chuckle left your lips in response to Neteyam, eyelids now starting to droop subtly. âThis is my tent is where I usually sleep but if you would like you can sleep in here and I can sleep in my familyâs tent?â He sounded so unsure, to suggest it as if there was another option as to where you could sleep safely.
âI do not want to kick you out of your bedroom.â You said shaking your head.
âBut you are a guest you should sleep here safe.â A quick rebuttal
âWell, but this is your tent. This is where you sleep.â
âNo, tonight it is where you sleep.â You sighed, pursing your lips together in response to Neteyams final remarks.
âBut-â
âNoâ he stood up, now looking down at you. His figure looming over you intimidatingly. âYou will sleep here tonight. If there is any trouble I am not far away.â He smiled at you, offering a hand to pull you up to his level.
âAre you completely sure?â
âCompletely. Goodnight ikran girl.â
âGoodnight Neteyam.â
You both couldnât deny the heat that rushed flowed to your cheeks. Neteyam stifled his smile as he exited the tent, as a smirking Kiri gave him a knowing look. This may have been the start of something terribly amazing.
It was now morning, a restless night filled with anxiety. The new sounds of the world around you, the mysterious moonlight shining into your eyes and to be alone in a brand new clan. It was terrifying.
Waking up for the last time as you decided it was an appropriate time to start off your day. Siting up you examined the tent around you, the small plants and flowers that littered the ground, and carved wooden pieces that were spread strategically around the tent. He must enjoy decorating you thought to yourself.
The curtain of your room slowly opened, a timid hand holding the edge, peeling it open to reveal Neteyamâs face. âMorning Y/N, did you sleep alright?â He asked closing the curtain again as he entered his tent. He looked down at your barely awake form, the sleep in your eyes and overall exhaustion on your face told him that you in fact did not sleep alright.
âIt was fine, thankyou for letting me sleep here.â
âThere was no way you werenât going to, mum would have skinned me if I had not let a woman sleep in her own tent.â He chuckled at the thought, a hand being brought up behind his head.
âEither way, I appreciate it. Iâll have to go home soon though, my parents will send out a search party if Iâm not back before todays eclipse.â Neteyam frowned, of course you had to leave. But why was there a tugging in his heart to ask you to stay just a couple hours longer, to talk to you longer, to be near you.
âYes, but you should stay just a bitâŠlonger.â Neteyam sounded so weary, cursing himself in his mind.
You stared up at him, you couldnât deny that you wanted to be home, yet you had this growing urge to stay by this stranger. Why? Why did you crave his closeness?
âI guess I couldâŠâ His face brightened almost exclaiming in joy, but he choked down his urge to shout.
âCool.â Cool? Oh, Neteyam you had to be kidding.
âYeahâŠcoolâŠâ The awkward tension was once again returning as you looked away from the boy in front of you, fidgeting with his hands, rocking on his heels to pray something could meld the awkwardness in the room.
Getting off of your makeshift bed you stood close to Neteyam. Closer than any normal conversation would be. His breath was brushing past your ear as he looked down to see you mimicking his fidgeting.
âWould you like to explore the forest with me?â It was a fast, impulsive, brash decision to ask you that but seeing the way your eyes twinkled in response he felt no shame in being so forward.
âIâd love to.â Sharing smiles, you both enjoyed the now comfortable silence between you. A silence two would share in the pining plot point of a romance movie, one that asserts which two characters will be in love.
âThen let us go!â
That conversation led to you being alone in the forest with Neteyam. As he passionately explained all of the things around you, the plants, the animals. He knew you would have them in your clan, but he was enthralled in the spirit of teaching someone all about his life and culture. To have someone listen so intently to something he was passionate about.
âThe forest is beautiful Neteyam.â You breathed out resting your back against a large tree trunk, one similar to the one you landed on the night before.
âI am extremely blessed for it to be my home.â His eyes were bright, smile across his face as his gratitude took over his emotions. He looked alluring to you, a sort of instinct drawing you closer to him, even though he was the one walking closer to you, a subconscious decision.
âNeteyam..â It was quiet but seeing him walk towards you unknowingly led him to stand very close to your front. His chest mere centimetres away from yours. âYou are closeâŠâ Noticing your whisper he noticed how close he was, he was too busy focusing on the plants around him, he had walked right into you.
He froze when he saw your breath hitch, your eyes connecting as his broad chest momentarily brushed up against yours. âI am sorry, I shouldnât be.â He looked down seeing your flushed cheeks and avoidant eyes. It intrigued him. Why were you so attractive? He shouldnât think this.
âNo, you shouldnât.â Your eyes shot up to him, desire pooling in your amber orbs. The feeling was taking over your body, this longing for him. Why did you want this stranger so bad? You knew nothing of him other than the fact that your body was calling for him, begging for him.
Neteyam was now the frozen one, lost in your eyes. The desire you felt transferring to him as he felt his chest grow heavy from yearning. âY/NâŠâ Your name rolled off his tongue with ease, dripping in anxiousness.
Maybe it was to spite your parents, to find someone before you were mated. Maybe it was the overall intimacy of how Neteyam shyly loomed over you or maybe it was the fact that this man in front of you was the most attractive Naâvi you had ever came across and you were just a teenage girlâŠalone in the forest.
âNeteyam. Forgive me for this.â Crashing your lips against his your eyes shut tight as your hands travelled up his chest to rest behind his neck. He froze, eyes wide as he felt you upon him. Your touch burning as your hands travelled up and down his body.
Accepting your affections, he closed his eyes and continued to kiss you. Lips latching onto one another as he pulled your into his body, his hands wrapped around the small of your back, thumbs digging into the flesh of your hips.
Starting to lose your breath you broke away from Neteyamâs lips. Meeting his heavy breaths and intense stare. âNeteyam-â cut off as he smashed his lips into yours again. This time it was feverish, his body craving you, to taste you lips and feel every part of your body.
You let out small whimpers as Neteyamâs hands travelled down to grab your ass, his hand resting on the flesh. If he was in his right mind he wouldâve been repulsed by his lewd actions but in this moment he craved you, and the sounds you made just drove him closer to insanity.
As hands roamed and kisses grew more desperate you and Neteyam separated, hands laying softly on each other as chests rose in sync, breathing loud and eye contact strong.
âNeteyam, I am sorry. I should not have done that.â The feeling of desire soon turned into shame, not being able to look him in the eye, too embarrassed about what you initiated. Neteyam was still, his face showing none of the feelings he was experiencing.
He longed to taste you again, but he knew it was wrong. He had duties to uphold as leader, he couldnât kiss whomever he pleased. But you were just so intoxicating.
âNo.â
âWhat?â
âDo not be sorry. I kissed you back. I wanted you so badly. No. I want you so badly.â
âNeteyam, I met you yesterday and Iâm leaving today. I shouldnât have been so impulsive.â He forgot that you had only known each other one eclipse. It felt like eternity. He also forgot that you were meant to leave, you werenât here forever. This was a mere coincidence, meeting you in the forest was a coincidence.
âCome back then.â
âHuhâ You stared up at him, you knew what he said. You just wanted him to repeat himself.
âLeave and come back. We can visit I justâŠI want to get to know you more Y/N. I donât want to kiss a girl to never see her again.â Neteyamâs hands had rested against your cheek. It didnât feel like you had known him for hours, more like years. An old couple reuniting, lost souls reconnecting. That is what it felt like.
âNeteyamâŠhow do I explain that to my parents?â
âDonât.â
âYou are being a bit delusional.â
âI know I just⊠this is stupid. You just want to go.â His ears flattened against his skull, a prominent frown etched onto his face. You sighed holding onto the hand that laid against your own cheek.
âNeteyam. I want to get to know you as well.â
There it was. That was the start. It was the beginning. You both felt something click in your heads that day. That this is what is right, despite it feeling so wrong.
You and Neteyam had now been visiting each other twice a week. You would fly out on long âtraining huntsâ to understand new waters you have explored but in reality you were in the Pandorian rainforest, sat against a manâs chest as he played with your hair. It had become routine now. It was now habit to see each other.
It felt like true bliss. It let you escape from the impending doom that was meeting your future mate. It felt disgusting to think of living with someone other than Neteyam by your side. Thinking about it made you queasy but most of it made you feel lonely. Knowing one day you would have to say goodbye to Neteyam as your family had trapped you into misery for the benefits of clanâs over their own daughter. However, you didnât think you would say goodbye to Neteyam this way.
You sat on the tree where you met Neteyam. You decided to pick that one as its large waterfall next to it made it easy for you to know where you were as you barely knew your way around the forest.
Early morning is when you would leave your clan meeting Neteyam as the sun starts to move towards peak. This morning however felt different. Neteyam who usually was there before you was nowhere to be seen. It worried you wondering where he was. He didnât forget or something did he? No. That is stupid Y/N, you cursed yourself.
Being in the forest alone was scary, not knowing all that resides it made you sensitive to the smallest noise. Thatâs why when Neteyam emerged out of the heavy foliage you had your knife out ready to attack.
âY/N? Why is your knife out?â
âYou scared the crap out of me Neteyam.â Putting your knife back into the loop of your loincloth you pulled your hands down your face in embarrassment. Your heartbeat now starting to calm down as Neteyam gave you a soft embrace hoping to calm your anxiousness.
âSorryâŠI was late talking to my family.â You didnât realise before because of the adrenaline but Neteyamâs voice was sorrowful. The usual playful tone changing into a melancholy tune. But what alerted you the most was his tear-stricken face. Puffy eyes and dark cheeks.
âNeteyamâŠhave you been crying?â you rested your thumb against his cheek, wiping the residue of tears off his face.
âIt is nothingâ
âIt is definitely somethingâŠâ your concern grew larger as he looked way from your gaze, obvious he was hiding the new set of tears welling in his eyes.
âNo. It is not.â
âNeteyam please-â
âNO Y/N! I- I canât talk about it. I just want, I want to stay next to you.â His voice cracked, in turn cracking your heart. It ached to see him hurt.
âThat is okay baby, come here.â He crashed into your arms, falling onto his knees to smoosh his face into your torso. You could feel the wetness of his tears near your belly button but ignored it to continue soothing him, patting his head softly.
As you sat down to meet him on the ground you noticed his more recent tears. It pained you. What was troubling your boy?
âNete you can tell me if something is troubling youâŠâ
âI donât want to lose you Y/N.â The sentence was unexpected, making you widen your eyes as Neteyam continued to let his tears fall out with a stone cold face.
âBut I am right here.â A lie, you knew you would be taken away at some point, but you would tried to push it down. Enjoy the time you had with Neteyam, but for some reason he was the one cutting it short.
âNo Y/NâŠI have been promised. I-â he paused to calm himself down, his hand gripping onto your thigh roughly. âI am to mate with someone for my clan. It is my duty.â
âWhat.â
âY/N please, I had no say in this.â Your lip quivered, eyes starting to water as you gazed up to the already crying Neteyam. The pain in your body felt crippling, like your heart had been plunged out of you. Small sobs coming out of your mouth in a soft whisper as Neteyam muttered constant apologies to you.
Your chest felt heavy, your body felt heavy. You felt like you were tied down, stuck on the ground you sat on, stuck on Neteyam who hung onto you as you continued to cry in his embrace.
âNeteyam. Does this mean we never see each other again?â His heart shattered at the thought. He had fallen in love with you. Everything you did he wanted to be there with you. He craved you and you craved him. But now you were grieving him and grieving whatever could have been.
âI do not want it to be.â
âBut is it.â
âYes.â
The quiet sobs turned into loud ones as you clawed onto Neteyam. He whispered sweet nothings into your ear as he rocked you back and forth. He tried to have a little composure but hearing your pained voice broke him. He had broken you.
âI donât want to let you go yet Nete. I was planning on never letting you go! Why did this happen!â you had this secret fantasy in your mind. That one day you and Neteyam would mate, that you would come to your home, denounce your parents promise over you and live happily with Neteyam.
But no. You were now both tied to loveless lives. Constantly yearning for each other while being with one whom you never craved like you craved each other.
âI am so sorry my love. I wish I could do something, but I am stuck.â You nodded, you were in his exact position. You couldnât blame him. But you wanted to scream, cause a ruckus and demand for Neteyam to stay as yours. It drove you insane. Who was going to be the girl that kept you away from your Neteyam. Youâll skin her, kill her, slit her throat if it meant that Neteyam could still be yours.
âI knowâŠletâs just enjoy our time togetherâ it felt like a knife to the heart, like a final goodbye those last eight words. But Neteyam understood. He knew that this was a goodbye. That all good things had to come to an end but that didnât make the thought of never having you in his arms again not the most painful thing he had ever thought about.
The ride home was the most painful thing you had ever done. You didnât stop crying until you reached home, your throat itchy and head pounding. You wanted nothing more than to lay in your hammock and cry. To stay there until it was your time to mate and be miserable forever.
Flying into your home you wouldâve thought your parents got the message that you were not to be talked to. But who were they to care about your feelings? So they barged into your room, gasping at the state of their sorrowful daughter.
âMy child what has happened?â
âI donât want to talk about it.â You grumbled facing the opposite direction to minimalize the embarrassment you felt of being caught crying.
âWe should tell her.â Your fathers voice rung in your ears, making your body go cold. You couldnât handle anymore bad news, not after this.
âTell me what.â
âYour mate is to arrive here tomorrow.â Your body heated up, feeling as if your head was on fire with rage. You didnât even get time to grieve your romance before you were shoved into the hands of a stranger?
âAre you fucking kidding me.â
âDo not speak to us that way.â Your father tried to discipline you, but your rage was nothing compared to him.
âARE YOU KIDDING?! I DONâT WANT A MATE I WANT TO BE ALONE. FUCK!â You voice was raspy and loud, sure the entire clan could hear you screams.
âYou do not get a choice in this. It is for the clan.â You looked into your parents eyes but all you could see is betrayal, how is this fair?
You didnât have the energy to fight this any longer. Without Neteyam, your purpose was gone. How was anyone meant to fight for their love when their love had been stripped away from them.
âFine.â Your mother looked at both her mate and daughter with concern. You had given up. âI donât care anymore, because it is obvious you do not.â
âYou brat-â Your mother coughed loudly to stop your father. Sharing glances, you all looked to each other.
âThank you daughter for doing this.â Sneering you looked directly into your mothers eyes and then to your fathers.
âI am not your daughter.â Their faces had fallen, the same emotion Neteyam had when he first saw you earlier. They had no right to be upset. Not when they chose this.
As your parents left without a word, you curled into a ball, folding in on yourself trying to shy away from the burden of grief and love tugging on your heart. The pain was indescribable, like someone had taken your heart and diced it in front of you.
That morning your mother had put you in your best attire. A top adorned in red beads and yellow feathers that represented your ikran was placed on top of you. Your usually loincloth had been replaced with one of prettier colour and material, more delicate to look at. Lastly, your hair had been let out, reaching past your shoulder blades as a yellow flower was stuck behind your left ear.
âYou look beautiful Y/N.â Your mother had her hands over her mouth adoringly. âDoesnât she look wonderful?â she asked your father as he replied with a proud nod.
A horn was sounded. Here they come. Entitled pieces of shit, thinking that they could mate into your clan. This wasnât fair, you just wanted to see Neteyam. You wanted to cry in his arms, yet here you were walking out into the crowd of people. Drums being beat as horns blew. You tried to look poised, to try and look like you werenât writhing in anxiety of who this man would be.
There flew in three ikrans. Why did it look so familiar? Why was the flashing colours of these animals bringing you back to siting in the forest with your love. You must be going insane.
âNeteyam te Suli Tsyeykâitan! Welcome! Toruk Makto! Welcome!â
What.
No.
This cannot be happening. But it was.
There he stood in front of you. Just as frozen as you. The quiver of your lips came back as you saw him stand in front of you in disbelief.
âNeteyam?â He walked towards you slowly, reaching his shaking hand out to you. You paced towards him, wrapping your hand around his and bringin it to your chest. âItâs! Itâs you!â you felt as if you were to burst in relief
âMy love, it is you?â Neteyamâs free hand came to caress your cheek, his heart was sparkling, he felt a weight being lift off his shoulders the minute you came into view.
âIt is me.â Neteyamâs lip quivered as he sucked in a short breath, trying desperately to not look as if he was a madman. âKiss me.â
âWhat?â
âKiss me Neteyam.â He complied, lips melting together in a harmonious union. Love mixed with the salty tears on both your cheeks as he held you closely to him. You kissed him deeply, ignoring the stares and confusion around you. He was here right in front of you, you would never let him go again. Never.

MODERN ATWOW BAND HEADCANONS !
âč summary : in which i'm slowly crawling back to my avatar hyperfixation and i decided to make a band au!except I'm right (or not take this with a grain of salt hehe) and I frl can't see them playing any other roles
âč author's note : let this not flop in eywa we pray đ and yes, Daisy Jones and the Six is my favorite book, how did you guess?
âč warnings : mentions of bleeding, scabs, swearing obv
It all started one balmy afternoon when Lo'ak and Spider were blowing off their biochemistry homework lying down on the floor staring at the cieling fan undeviatingly oscillate above them. Then, Lo'ak suddenly sits up from his spot causing Spider to look at him.
"What's up?" Asked Spider.
Lo'ak looks at him, a newfound determination in his wide eyes. "Dude, what if we start a band."
Spider frowns. "A band?"
"No, but hear me out for a second." says Lo'ak bristling in his spot as Spider sits up.
Although wary, Spider hums. "Alright."
"Think about it, school's almost over, we barely know anybody in this town, are we seriously gunna hangout in the beach all summer trying to make friends?"
Spider chuckles. "I think I'm missing the point where that's a bad idea."
"Spider, come on bro- look at us, we're losers alright? We're practically throwaway fish to the kids at school- but if we start a band, who knows how many people'll wanna be a part of it, we'll score a couple of life long friends AND it'll be our one solid excuse not to be at home" Lo'ak's riposte was proving to make sense, with a toothy smile to cap it off, but of course Spider- considering he was two years Lo'ak's senior had to pop his bubble with the pragmatic pin of reality.
"I don't know dude, it sounds kinda lame." Spider replies hesitantly, propping himself up by his elbows. "We've been trying to start a band since 7th grade, we always end up calling it quits on the 3rd week."
"This time it'll be different."
Spider scoffs. "Uh-huh? How "
Lo'ak nudges his right shoulder upwards. "We'll ask Neteyam to help."
Spider shoots him yet another look. "If he doesn't want to help?"
"We make do," Lo'ak shrugs. "What's wrong with a two man band?"
"Almost everything." Spider snorts.
â
lo'ak ââââââââ electric guitar
when they used to live back in high camp, he found an old silvertone in their attic that used to belong to jake during his marine days along with scores of 70's rock bands' songs on yellowing paper fraying at the edges and folds.
He spent 3 months learning a song with 4 chords by ear and performed it at the school talent show
When he got into 6th grade he did not only beg, for an electric guitar he GROVELED. He suddenly wanted to do all the chores in the house, he suddenly got C's instead of D's in tests, it was terrifying because who the hell WAS this and what did they do to the real Lo'ak???
Jake and Neytiri didn't give him one until he was 13. Jake just picked him up from school one day and all of a sudden just asked: you wanna get that electric guitar?
LO'AK WAS OVER THE GODDAMN MOON.
got a classic red stratocaster.
The first song he ever learned to play on the guitar was buddy holly by weezer...
Come on you guys what were you expecting
likes picking at his finger scabs and does it until neteyam or tsireya tells him off.
has multiple guitar picks but always uses this specific one he made into a necklace and wears it everywhere.
THEN PROCEEDS TO LOSE SAID GUITAR PICKS
tuk keeps hiding them around the house waiting for lo'ak to lose his mind.
he can play any song by ear, just watch.
plays around with riffs more often than not.
â
neteyam ââââââââ back up vocalist / lyricist
never even wanted to join the band but was bullied into joining (kiri joined when he said he wouldn't just to spite him)
has perfect pitch (are we surprised though)
YOU'D SNEEZE AND BITCH ASS CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT NOTE IT'S AT.
uses it to nitpick Lo'ak when he's straying from the original pitch.
lo'ak will then threaten to cave his face in with his capo.
his favorite artists are frank ocean and kendrick lamar.
no one in his entire school woulda guessed he could sing. Nobody.
was made to sing in family events... (iykyk)
loves musicals. his favorite's Hamilton...
Jake and Neytiri took him to see Hamilton once in New York when he was 11, he's never been the same since.
HAS MAJOR FUCKING STAGE FRIGHT I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. HE WILL NOT GO ON STAGE UNTIL YOU SMACK HIM IN THE HEAD SO HARD HIS BRAIN RESETS AND SUDDENLY HAS THE BALLS TO FACE THE AUDIENCE.
Once he's out there though he totally changes, he gets more confident, when he's really feeling it then his braids start flying everywhere... it's becoming an issue really, he might take someone's eye out with how solid his hair beads are...
hurled his guts out one time before they had to perform at the end of year school fair.
â
kiri ââââââââ pianist
there are always four types of gays. English Teacher Gays, Art Teacher Gays, History Teacher Gays, and Music Teacher Gays.
Kiri was definitely the last one.
lo'ak got her a shirt that says "key master" with her face horribly photoshopped onto the keys of a piano.
she burned it the night she got it.
til this day lo'ak never knew what happened to it.
Suki Waterhouse as Karen Sirko in the DJATS live action? Brain chemistry = altered
Stevie Nick's and Lindsey Buckingham's performance of Silver Spring in Fleetwood Mac's Reunion concern in 1997? = Roman Empire.
was in the school choir and would play the piano in their choir director's stead.
has been playing the piano for 9 years but always gets confused when asked to play a flat or a sharp (it takes her 4 tries to figure out where C minor is)
her favorite piece to play is over the waves by juventino rosas.
when she wants to show jake a new piece she's been working on, by the first minute he's out like a fucking light. SHE'S JUST THAT GOOD.
also when she wants to play a piece with too many chords she never wanted to play it in the first place.
once she messes up she's definitely one of those people who spams the keys.
one time when she was playing a piece her fingers cramped mid-song and she freaked out.
â
spider ââââââââ drums
his dad's military friends taught him how to play the drums.
lo'ak dared him he couldn't do a drumroll for an hour.
spider did it in two and a half but stopped cuz he got hungry LMAO.
impresses kiri with various drumstick spins, it dosen't impress her.
practically worshipped that one vine of those two kids.
was definitely one of those kids that played with overturned pots and pans and pretended it was a drum set (it annoyed the hell outta norm)
once lost his drum sticks and used chopsticks (ps. they weren't the same)
scribbled their band logo on his bass drum and was very proud of it.
INSISTED they would call themselves "the seven skxawngs"
nobody listened to him.
when they held auditions for their drummer he went "You guys know I can play the drums right?"
has never watched whiplash.
uploads drum covers on his tiktok account with 70 followers.
makes dumb jokes if the others can't figure out a certain chord or note he'd go "guys maybe it's at H!"
the most chillest person in the band though frl.
somehow always manages to pull??? The amount of game this man has solely just because he's the drummer is wild.
they once performed at an event with 50 people and Spider was wearing addidas slides the entire time and nobody noticed.
â
tsireya ââââââââ main vocals/lyricist
When I tell you this kid can SING SHE CAN SING.
frl the real life ariel I swear evrrytime she opens her mouth everyone's wishing on her downfall because she's such a talented singer, her vibratro is so measured, her runs are so clean, she's just so UGHHHH.
is such a theatre kid oh Lord.
was made to sing at family events too (it's practically a canon event atp guys.)
has a special journal where she writes her song lyrics that she takes with her everywhere (give her 5 minutes and she can write a song with just her hand as paper and eyeliner as a pen.)
joined in singing competitions when she was a kid and when she was 10 joined a televised singing competition and managed to make it to the semi-finals.
it's why she's the lead singer of the band anyway.
she always has pearls threaded into her hair every time they perform and it's been her signature look ever since.
her voice is fucking angelic ya'll istg.
is a soprano. enough said.
is amazing at reading sheet music.
she and neteyam wrote 3 original songs that the band performs everytime they get a gig.
aside from singing she can play piano and violin too.
she's a fucking wordsmith too like she's so eloquent and knows all these big words and she's good at expressing her pent up emotions through songwriting.
the literal it girl. Everyone in their band gained more popularity ever since they opened for a popular band from L.A. but everyone in their high-school knows her name. Everyone.
her vocal control is amazing.
she really knows how to liven up a crowd.
â
aonung ââââââââ rhythm guitar
has been playing guitar since he was 7.
took up guitaring because his dad introduced him and tsireya to playing instruments at a young age.
collects guitar straps.
neteyam's always on his ass about if what he's playing sounds right or not (50% of the time he's not)
it isn't practice without neteyam and aonung almost throwing hands at least thrice.
almost always smokes while practicing.
oddly enough only has one guitar pick and he hasn't lost it yet unlike lo'ak who buys new guitar picks every other month.
obsessed with black nailpolish, you won't see him go on stage without black nails istg.
he didn't even audition for the band. He was just always there at the Sully residence to pick Tsireya up from practice until one day Tsireya told him to come inside the house, when he did he finds out they needed someone for rhythm guitar and that Tsireya let it slip that Aonung knew how to play.
he's been a part of the band ever since.
he's just incredibly good with his fingers, enough said.
after the first time they performed their first gig at some girl's house party, he, rotxo, and lo'ak got high on the rooftop of Aonung's house (yk until Lo'ak slipped and started dangling from the gutters and fell into the pool)
his outfits always eat every time they perform.
james hetfield the goat.
always experimenting with new riffs and runs and adds them to the songs mid-performance and without any warning (just to piss neteyam off)
â
rotxo ââââââââ bass guitar
the glue and heart of the band frl.
the sweetest basist you'll ever meet.
his family actually owns a popular guitar shop in Awa'atlu, he first started playing the guitar at the ripe age of 5.
Bro is a prodigy but dosen't want to admit it.
aonung bought his first guitar at rotxo's family's shop, they hit it off ever since.
Always brings his baked goods to practices (then kiri devours the entire tray when you aren't looking)
actually fucked up his audition for the band but then Lo'ak found him sobbing in a janitors closet and gave him a second shot at an audition with just Lo'ak and Spider and he was able to redeem himself.
(really only auditioned cuz he played bass, they were finding a bassist, and not because kiri sully was their pianist)
is an introvert but he's so fucking funny that you wouldn't suspect it.
can perform riffs in his sleep (no he actually does though it freaks aonung out when he spends the night in his place.)
kiri made him a resin guitar pick with fragments of coral from the beach when they had their first date.
has a "maturing is realizing bass is the superior instrument" tshirt.
one time wore finger condoms so his scabs wouldn't re-open and bleed all over his guitar đ
loves playing deftones on the bass.
has chronic "guitar face"

* gifâs not mine.
in the depths of my mind, I kept you hidden, a treasure too priceless to be revealed, for your soul is pure, your beauty unbidden, a rose in the fields, unconquered, unconcealed.Â
On the night when it all began, the sky stretched above, clear and serene, while a gentle breeze rustled through the air. The moon, a slender crescent, cast its ethereal glow upon the dense forests of Pandora, drawing intricate shadows upon the tents nestled amidst the towering trees. Its radiance danced upon the still surface of the deserted lake, while the forest itself seemed adorned with a tapestry of fallen leaves and meandering vines.
Your body felt weak, your heartbeat faltered, its rhythm growing feeble, and your pulse felt strangely sluggish. With a heavy sigh escaping your lips, you sank down onto the ground, your trembling hands finding their way to the tangles of your hair. The wind, mischievous in its playful dance, toyed with the fabric of your loincloth and the flowers and feathers that adorned your form, teasing and loosening a single strand from the intricately braided locks that Kiri had graced with delicately handcrafted beads that evening.
With a desperate gesture, you pressed the balls of your hands firmly against your closed eyes, seeking respite from the world. Colors of light and dark swirled in a dizzying dance behind your lids, creating a kaleidoscope of sensations. The sharp pain that had taken residence above your temples intensified, causing another low, pained sigh to escape from your chapped lips as if carrying the weight of your weariness.
You heard your name before you felt his hand on your arm, his knee touched yours and for a brief moment, your heart almost completely stopped. You couldn't bring yourself to look at him yet; your eyes were strangely veiled as if they were watering. "What's going on?"
There was an uncomfortable metallic taste in your mouth, and you carefully put your hand to your lips, only to discover the crimson evidence of blood trickling on your lips from your nose. Images of that night were difficult to push aside anyway, but in connection with the headache, it was almost impossible to suppress the onslaught of memories.Â
You cursed under your breath, your voice cracked and feeble, as you looked up at Lo'ak with an awkward expression.
"Broâ" Lo'ak's voice trailed off as his eyebrows shot up, his gaze shifting to the blood on your hand and then on your face. Swiftly, he retrieved a cloth that was secured to his side near his hunting knife. "Take this, it's clean. I only used it to polish my knife."
Gratefully, you accepted the cloth and pressed it against your nose to stem the bleeding.
"You need to see TsahĂŹk," he said softly, his eyes fixed on your profile.
"That'sâ" you began to protest, but the pain cut through your words. It hit you suddenly and with greater intensity than before, almost violently, leaving you gasping for breath. You attempted to stand, but your knees gave way, and you slumped down. Lo'ak struggled to keep you upright, his arms straining to support you.
"You have to see TsahĂŹk," he repeated, and you could only weakly shake your head. Blood trickled down your chin in thin lines, dripping onto the edge of your upper piece, leaving dark-red stains on the feathers. "You've been feeling unwell all evening. I'm worried about you."
That's how he was, Lo'ak Sully. Caring and considerate, not towards everyone, actually towards no one, but towards a selected few, including you. Instead of enjoying the celebration held in his honor, he had barely left your side throughout the evening. Even now, he preferred sitting with you rather than accepting another drinking challenge. In two days, he would embark on another journey to the Eastern Sea as the Tulkun Season was about to begin, and you wouldn't be able to see him for a long, long time. Actually, you should be grateful; missing him would only be temporary, and you would have something to look forward to. Five years ago, when you thought you would never see the Sully's again, it looked quite different. Back then, external circumstances had forced them to leave your clan and seek shelter far away in the East, leaving you with a void deep inside you. Fortunately, those external circumstances had been resolved by now, and Lo'ak, he was both Omatikaya and Metkayina now, being the bridge between the two clans, with the tattoo on his side below his cummerbund serving as proof. You were very proud of him and loved listening to his stories about his other friends and adventures. However, the farewell was close, meaning until his return in six moons, you would miss him, so much.Â
"You're drunk," you managed to say with difficulty. Speaking was incredibly hard for you, and the words felt fragile on your lips. "The village is over an hour away. And I won't let you fly; I'd rather die a wretched death out here."
"As charming as ever," Lo'ak muttered but secretly agreed. "Y/n, I... Can you stand up?" Of course, you couldn't. He presumably realized that in the next moment. "I'm going to quickly run back to the party, and you'll wait for me to return, okay? I'll hurry, I promise. Do you understand me?"
Your nod came seconds too late; he had already headed back toward the direction of loud music and youthful laughter. The vibrations reached the ground, shaking the earth beneath you. You could faintly hear Kiri's laughter as someone played the blue flute in the background. The spots danced before your eyes without you having to close them, and while the pain in your temples had eased, every sudden movement felt like your skull was about to explode.
A small group of young Na'vi passed by on the other side, maybe ten meters away from you, laughing and drinking while heading straight into the forest, but without noticing you; two couples, maybe a year or two older than you, with their hands clasped and bottles sharing.
The following thought brought a crooked smile to your lips and, inexplicably, tears to your eyes. But it was true. Pathetic as it may seem at first glance, all you wanted was to be truly loved, to have your mate by your side; a man with a strong heart who would love you like Jake loved Neytiri, who would call you beautiful even in the mornings when you woke up with messy hair and a puffy face; who would create a safe haven in his arms, where you could be vulnerable and share your deepest secrets; who would make you laugh with his infectious sense of humor, turning ordinary moments into extraordinary memories; who would hold your heart in his hands and cherished it as if it were his own, loving you unconditionally, flaws and all, reminding you that you are enough. Sometimes, more than anything, you wished for that to happen. And on those days, even Neteyam te Suli Tsyeyk'itan seemed somewhat attractive with his fleeting, almost coy smile directed towards yet another girl.
Another girl, yes. By now you were convinced that not just the girls but your whole clan had developed a crush, no matter how tiny or big, on the golden boy, and he liked that, of course, he did, he loved the attention and praise from almost anyone; almost, leaving you to possibly be the only person in the whole village who he wouldn't willingly exchange a word with. Not that you minded, on the contrary, you'd never gotten along with Neteyam since you were kids and you knew that it was mutual.Â
It wasn't that you had never been in love before, experiencing the euphoria and joy of a promising and fulfilling future ahead. But once your heart had been shattered, it became challenging for you to trust in someone else's words, no matter how beautifully spoken. This is why stepping out of your comfort zone felt incredibly difficult for you.
"We're back," Lo'ak's voice interrupted your thoughts, and as he helped you up, you realized who we referred to. Indeed, Neteyam Sully stood before you, holding the saddle for his ikran, and looked down at you, almost with a hint of pity.
"Why him of all people?" you grumbled, giving Lo'ak a weary glance. You felt like tears were ready to spill at any moment. "What about Kiri?"
"I didn't want to interrupt Kiri in her debate on equality versus equity against that flute guy. Plus, Neteyam is probably the only one around here who isn't too drunk to fly."
"No one?" you exclaimed, unable to hide your disbelief. However, before you could receive a proper answer, Neteyam himself lifted you onto his ikran, who rested a few meters away beneath the canopy of flower trees, alongside the other majestic creatures. With a swift motion that would typically have prompted an eye roll of annoyance â your current state sadly left no room for such sentiments â he positioned himself right behind you, his presence uncomfortably close, your thighs almost touching. He gently patted his ikran on the head to greet her, before he encircled your waist with his arms in a way that made your back lean onto his torso. And then, with a profound connection, he established a swaheylu bond with his ikran.
"Hold on tight," he whispered to you and nodded toward a slightly lost-looking Lo'ak behind your shoulder. His voice trembled slightly, almost imperceptibly, as he continued. "I may not be fond of you, but I really don't want to bear the responsibility for your death. Got it?"
That night was the moment when you first grasped the gravity of the situation, realizing that it was indeed something serious.
âŸââŸââŸââŸ
When Neteyam, as carefully and gently as he could, lifted you off his ikran right in front of a village that seemed unfamiliar to you and carried you with quick, firm steps into one of the tents in his arms, the night air suddenly seemed terribly cold and biting, and you realized you weren't home. All the words on your lips vanished into the darkness, and you seemed even too weak to cry.
He whispered reassuring words to you, told you he had to bring you to the nearest village he could find, looked at you with so much concern in his eyes that you were sure you were hallucinating, asked you to try and stay awake as long as you could, but as soon as you had entered the tent, everything seemed to flow into a single moment. After Neteyam formally introduced himself, an elderly woman with red feathers in her hair told him to carry you right after her, anything else would have been a waste of time. She asked him a lot; your name, your age, what had happened that evening, whether anything like that had happened before.
You were almost surprised at how collected he was and how many of the questions he was able to answer so quickly, but actually it was only logical â he also spent as much time with Lo'ak as you did, so you, too, couldn't help but learn a lot about the oh-so-legendary Neteyam Sully. As if that mattered.
Inside the tent, there was an unusual calmness, contrary to your expectations. In your own clan, TsahĂŹk's tent was always bustling with activity, filled with people seeking healing or simply enjoying each other's company. But in this clan, it felt different. It was quieter, almost serene, yet it carried an air of solitude. You couldn't help but notice a middle-aged man seated on one of the mats, his head buried in his hands as if he were anxiously awaiting something. Or someone. Next to him, a little girl lay with a peaceful face, seemingly asleep.
You really had no clue why this man of all people was stuck in your mind so clearly â this inconspicuous man, the only steadfast memory of that night.Â
The night when it all began.
The last thing you felt was Neteyam's hand on yours. Then everything went black and the only thing that remained was the picture of golden eyes and the man in the healing tent.
Vawm na txon. As dark as the night.
âŸââŸââŸââŸ
When you felt his fingertips on your wrist, you involuntarily winced and looked up. "Hey, Lo'ak," you muttered, and he immediately pulled you into a gentle hug and kissed your hairline. His voice sounded hoarse and rough and the bittersweet smell of sweet yovo fruit mixed with a bit of salt hung on his skin; and heaven, you would have loved to never let go of him again.Â
For a moment he just looked at you in silence and frowned before he sat across from you on the grass. Lo'ak started to say something, but his voice failed and a low sigh caught in the air around you.Â
"You look tired." You almost laughed, and it didn't even feel wrong. You look tired. Tuk had said the same thing earlier that morning while sitting in front of her herbal tea and half of Neytiri's infamous sari seed bread. She had preferred eating her morning meal in her grandmother's tent, because you were there too, not for relaxation, but to drink the disgusting mixture Mo'at prepared for you every single morning for the last three moons. Uttering those words, Tuk had even cast the same concerned look at you, with the same worried expression on her freckled, delicate face, just like her older brother was doing now, and it had almost broken your heart.
"I didn't sleep well last night, that's all."
When he said your name, admonishing with a sigh, his voice quivered, teetering on the edge of concern, before he hesitantly continued, "Are you⊠okay?"Â
His unspoken words hung heavy in the air, etched upon his countenance. You could see the unvoiced questions etching lines of worry upon his face, 'In the past few moons you haven't gotten back to me or anyone else, nor did you answer a single radio call, I tried to reach out to you several times, but you ignored me, you never asked to speak to me, and when my family sent you my greetings you just smiled and made promises that you never intended to keep, nothing.' yet they remained trapped within the confines of his sealed lips. The restrained inquiry and underlying disappointment were palpable, like a suppressed ache that threatened to consume him; and deep down, you knew his effort to withhold his concerns only magnified your own pain, intensifying the weight of his unspoken concerns.
"You're my best friend," he finally just said and ran his hand through his already chaotic braids.Â
At the same moment, out of pure impulse, you brushed a tangled strand of hair from your face. You had already heard last week that Lo'ak and Kiri would return early to transport some rations from here to Awa'atlu, thanks to Max and Norm who had decided to expand their labs to the Eastern Sea. At the same time, you didn't want to get too excited because they would only stay for a maximum of one week before being away for three more moons. Nevertheless, you had missed him. Every day since that party and their department two days later, you had thought of the moment he and Kiri left for the Eastern Sea, how he had briefly refused to leave until you were feeling better, how hard it was for you and his parents to convince him that everything was alright; how Lo'ak had promised to check in on you over the radio every evening just before the eclipse, how he had kept his promise, but you hadn't, and how you were contemplating telling him what had happened in those three months since he was gone, too anxious of his reaction; even more than the one time you had to make an important decision almost ten cycles ago:
"Why is he so mean? His radio code name is Pathfinder, and he has the audacity to criticize mine? He called me Plain Grandma, can you believe that!?"
"He also called you Slow Vipertail which is far worse in my eyes," Lo'ak had commented dryly.
"Shut up, Eagle Eye!" you had crossed your arms in front of your chest, pouting, "What is so bad about Stargirl?"
"No offense but it couldn't be any girlier."Â
"Well, I am a girl."
"But do you want the enemy to know that?"Â
"I thought our frequency was secure?"
"You never know with them." When you had continued to pout, Lo'ak had nudged you encouragingly with his elbow, "Come on, you can be Silent Thunder if you like."
"Isn't that what you call your farts?" Kiri, who had remained completely silent during your discussion, was the one who had made that comment. You had made a disgusted face in response.
"Okaaay," Lo'ak had groaned, "Then be anything but Stargirl, Eywa, just choose something or I'll do it for you. Remember, your code name sticks with you forever."
In the end, the discussion had dragged on for so long that during the evening meal, the two of you had managed to irritate every clan member within a two-meter radius. Jake had taken it upon himself to bring it to a close and gave you your personal radio code name, which you cherished to this day. Not because it had come from your former Olo'eyktan, but from a person you loved and respected like your own father; it was more than an honor to you.
You looked at him now, at Jake's identical copy, a bittersweet smile forming at the corners of your mouth, tinged with nostalgia. His eyes were like the early sun rays that morning at TsahĂŹk's tent; two orbs of amber with irregular, whitish spots of cream â strange that this, of all things, crossed your mind at that second.Â
"Eagle Eye to Skyracer," he playfully nudged your knee in an attempt to lighten the mood, "Come on, tell me why you avoid me."
And then, then you said it out loud; a single little sentence of four syllables, and his once sunlight-radiating eyes were covered by lids streaked with fine, pale blue veins, holding a glimmer of melancholy, like a fading sunset.
"Please, no," he whispered, his voice filled with sadness, as you sought comfort in the embrace of his arms, burying your head in the crook of his neck. Salty tears mingled with your lips as you clung to each other, his fingers interlacing with yours, a desperate grip that turned his knuckles almost white, the weight of the impending fate pressed upon you both.
As the realization settled within him, Lo'ak let go of you and collapsed onto the grass, his shoulders shaking with uncontrollable sobs and trembling with the intensity of his emotions. You immediately wrapped your arms around him again, wanting to share his emotions, knowing that this pain was as much his as it was yours, while the air around you seemed heavy with helplessness as the two of you sat there, engulfed in the depths of your shared pain.Â
"No!" he cried out all of a sudden, his voice choked on his tears. Saliva glistened on his quivering lips, his breath was ragged and uneven; and his eyes, bloodshot and filled with more unshed tears, refused to accept the harsh reality you just told him.
"Why? Why you?" Lo'ak's voice cracked as the words escaped through clenched teeth. His fists clenched tightly, nails digging into the ground beneath you, as if trying to anchor himself to the pain, refusing to accept the meaning behind your words. His tears mingled with yours as you still held him close, feeling his agony reverberate through your own heart.
Lo'ak's voice was laced with raw fury. "This can't be happening! It's not fair!"
The wind whispered through the grass, carrying the echoes of his anguish across the desolate landscape, but leaving his voice hanging in the air. The setting sun, a silent witness to the unraveling of two intertwined souls, cast its pale light upon the scene, casting long shadows around you.
Lo'ak's emotions gave way to desperate pleas, his voice cracking with desperation. "Please, there must be a way. I'll talk to my dad, he⊠he canâŠ" he choked on his tears once more, "Anything. I'll give anything."
You stroked his trembling cheek, tears flowing freely down your own face. "I know you would. But sometimes, there are forces beyond our control, Lo'ak, I need you to understand that."
Lo'ak's resistance crumbled, his body sinking into a heap of devastation. His nose ran, mingling with the tears streaming down his face. He clung to you, a lifeline in the midst of a tempestuous sea, refusing to let go even as the waves crashed around him.
The evening wore on, its grey hue mirroring the somberness of your hearts. There were no words that could ease the ache or undo the cruel fate, so, you remained there, seeking comfort in the silence, finding comfort in each other's arms for you drew strength from one another, offering support amidst the overwhelming feelings that engulfed you.Â
âŸââŸââŸââŸ
The next day, as the sun bathed the forest in a golden glow, you were sitting near the quiet stream by yourself, keeping yourself distracted and enjoying the gentle tickle of water, when you heard footsteps growing louder as someone approached you. You turned around, a calm expression masking the inner storm within you, just to see Neteyam, his expression hardened with determination
Your eyes met his, and you could see anger, confusion, and concern in his gaze all at once, catching you completely off-guard; it was strange that he sought you out in the first place, and then seeing him so⊠emotional, that was a first.Â
He stood tall before you, the sun at his back, giving him an angelic glow that he surely didn't deserve, and it was ironic, too, given his angry pout that you were sure Lo'ak would've made fun of if he was here.Â
Neteyam's voice was laced with a tinge of bitterness when he spoke, "You've broken my brother's heart. What did you do to him?"
"You already have your answer, apparently I've broken his heart," you said sarcastically to which he scoffed. You remained composed, refusing to allow his words to rattle you, and your voice carried a hint of indifference as you added, "Trust me, I haven't done and wouldn't ever do anything to intentionally hurt Lo'ak."
Neteyam's nostrils flared as frustration mingled with his anger. The man, normally composed, couldn't be further away from that in that very moment, when he took a deliberate step closer, his gaze locking with yours. "Don't play innocent with me. You must've betrayed him in some way."
"Betrayal requires intent, Neteyam," You held his gaze, unyielding in the face of his accusations, "Whatever you think I've done, it wasn't with the purpose of hurting Lo'ak."
Neteyam's anger wavered for a moment, replaced by a flicker of uncertainty. His brow furrowed as he tried to make sense of the situation. "Then why? Why is he crying and suffering if it wasn't your doing? What could have caused this?"
A bittersweet smile graced your lips as you shook your head gently.Â
"It's true, isn't it? What IvĂ€t said at training this morâ"
"Don't say his name," you warned, your voice carrying a deep, growling tone from the back of your throat.
Neteyam's anger softened, replaced by curiosity and even a sense of empathy. Though skepticism still lingered in his voice, genuine concern emerged, "But why? Why would you go back to him? He should be exiled but here you are, running back to him after everything he's done to you."
"Tell me again why any of this matters to you?" you questioned.
"Lo'ak cares for you, deeply. I care for him, deeply. That means everything you do eventually affects me," Neteyam explained, attempting to convey the weight of his words. "Understand that your actions have consequences for everyone around you."
"I'm not having this conversation with you right now," you declared sighing, walking past him with determined steps.
"Just tell your parents you don't want to," he shouted after you, "I can⊠My family could support you, you know. You don't have to do anything against your will."
"Well," you turned around, snapping at him, "you can't fight against fate, can you?"
There was a brief pause as Neteyam absorbed your words, realization slowly dawning on him that there might be more to the situation than he initially believed. His eyes darkened, and his nails dug into his palms as he struggled to control his emotions, "You can try."
You let out an ironic huff, shaking your head slightly and biting your inner cheek to prevent a sarcastic comment from slipping out.
"I am not your enemy," he continued in a softer tone, seeking your eyes, "I'm only here trying to help you, yet youâ"
"That, Neteyam, is not my concern," you interrupted him harshly. You met his gaze finally, the weight of unspoken truths hanging in the air between you. "I never asked for your help, nor do I need it. If you truly care about your brother, perhaps you should be there for him and ask him directly how you can help him instead of mingling with my private life and assuming the worst of me."
With that, you turned back around and kept walking away with determined steps, leaving Neteyam standing by the stream alone with his swirling thoughts, but you couldn't deny the flicker of vulnerability within you as a twinge of guilt tugged at your conscience for the way you had treated the only person who had recently saved your life, accompanied by a sense of regret for your harsh words, realizing that you had never even thanked him.
âŸââŸââŸââŸ
A few hours later, you were sitting on the wooden floor in your familyâs tent; leaning your head against the slightly dirty rolled-up rug near the entry and pulling your knees so close to your body that the hem of your loincloth slipped a long way down your thigh. The evening had long since settled over the landscapes, and it was now dark outside. In your hands, you were holding a handcrafted mug with still steaming herbal tea that Kiri had brought you a few minutes earlier, and you clutched it so tight that your knuckles were clearly visible on your skin.Â
Kiri was now sitting at the opposite side of you next to your hammock as she thoughtfully twisted the hem of her loincloth between her fingers, like she always did when she didn't know what to say, before deciding to leave the fabric alone.Â
"Now tell me, what's going on?" You sighed softly and something in your friend's gaze brought tears to your eyes, but you didn't want to cry, not again. You liked Kiri a lot, she was the girl you were closest friends with, in the entire clan, but you hated to refer to her as 'best friend', although, strictly speaking, she was. You liked Kiri actually so much that you couldn't do it to her. Not after seeing what it had done to Lo'ak. You couldn't bear to see two broken souls within a day. But your previous encounter with Neteyam had taught you something: you had to be the one whom they heard the news of, not someone else, let alone a stranger. It had to be you. That much you owed them at least. And yet, it was so difficult.
"Everything's fine. Really." A weak smile crept on your face involuntarily, while you took a sip of your tea. "Come on, Kiri. Don't be stupid, you're missing out on the evening meal."
"You as well."
"I'm not hungry."
"You're always hungry." You sat up straight and leaned one leg over the other so you could look directly at Kiri. There was something in her gaze between concern and helplessness, but you could only vaguely make it out. She bit her lower lip lightly before continuing. "I met Lo'ak earlier, he looked... he really didn't look good, and he seemed kind of absent."
"He's probably missing Tsireya already."
"He said I'd better talk to you about it."
You kept quiet at that, unsure how to respond.
"You know, Neteyam said that you-know-who goes around saying⊠that he has approached your parents, seeking their approval to court you once again? Is that true?"
"Yes," you answered without any emotion in your voice.
"But there is something else that saddens you."
You lifted your shoulders slightly, just a tiny bit, and you already felt the tears threaten to fall down your eyelashes. You ran the back of your hand over your face, exhaled shakily, and pressed your lips together, but the first sob stumbled over your lips before you could have done anything about it.Â
You muttered a curse word, and it took you a moment to pull yourself together. "I'm sorry, Kiri. I am so incredibly sorry." The tears ran down your cheeks unsteadily, and dripped onto the feathers on your chest, leaving behind light stains that faded a heartbeat later. "So far only my parents know, and probably yours, too, along with TsahÏk, of course. And Lo'ak, he knows, too. The others will find out when it can no longer be avoided, and⊠and this moment, it will come, but⊠you really cannot tell anyone, Kiri."
Kiri stared at you blankly, a single hair strand had come off her bun and fell over her shoulder in a slight wave. She was afraid. You were too. You sniffed softly and looked down, just a brief moment before you pulled yourself together and looked up at her.
"I am dying, Kiri, and there is no cure."
so basically, my first upload kinda flopped and Iâm trying to find out the reason why, whether itâs my writing, the topic of the story (which I can understand since itâs not everyoneâs cup of tea), or if itâs the algorithm. if you like this piece of writing, please let me know through your interaction đ
