Marvel has already done a much better Secret Invasion TV series, and it's called Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Thinking about the split moment that May died. Her “guess I’ll see him soon enough” before her head rolled to the side and she breathed her last
Thinking about Daisy who, yes, just lost her mother, but whose mind probably drifted to that very sentence and the truth it could’ve held. May seeing and reuniting with Coulson again. An embrace, a reunion with the man they both love more than life and who they’ve grieved over together, and May got to see him again
And, perhaps, a degree of envy that Daisy wasn’t with her to also see him again—her dad

do you know something I think about all the time. What exactly does LMD Coulson remember? They say he has all of Coulson's memories but the last time Coulson had a brain scan would have been late s4. Meaning LMD Coulson wouldn't remember anything that happened in season 5, right? Except he clearly does know what happened; how does this work? I assume they fed him facts about it but. What does he think about this? What does he feel about not remembering his deal and his death? Considering all the other ruminating he does in s7 I wish they'd put some of this in, but I suspect the writers just forgot

agents of shield s7 really was a shockingly good conclusion to something I like… like on it’s own it’s a good season but I don’t really realize how highly I think of it overall (it’s not agents of shield s4 who’s praises I’ll sing any day of the week) until I think about how many concluding seasons or books of shows or series I love could have been better if they were more like it in a variety of ways…
#s speaks#currently inspired by me venting about my wishes for a raven king where Blue’s mirror powers were treated more like May’s empath powers#(which is funny since apparently Maggie’s og draft gave Blue literal empath powers although mirror is still in that vain to an extent)#and her having feelings and anger and resentment once LMD Coulson comes into the picture but she doesn’t see him as her Coulson#but also the way he can be a neutral space for her while she’s navigating the powers is comforting#I would have Lurved an arc like that for Blue/Bluesey#and the questioning if he’s real or not thread for Coulson himself and everyone around him and their relationships#which is helped by the existence of s6 which wasn’t the best aos season (although even though it had messy parts I liked how focused on May#it was and that Ming got to shine a lot. I could have done with less fs and far less Deke but that’s-)#but if that season didn’t exist at all s7 wouldn’t have landed because we needed to see those chars Without Coulson. If they had just#skipped to Daisy slamming the button and that’s that then he’s off on his road trip and that’s that—#but outside of trcbrainrot magicians could have used that season as a model so could legacies so could a lot of different genre things w#unsatisfying endings#sometimes I will have to do a list of my favorite conclusions to things since there’s definitely less that I wholly am a fan of and more I’#so so on or dislike.#in terms of tv shows would say community agents of shield and person of interest are the main ones that really hold up to me and are great#endings to shows I cared about#for books: CP2 TKM and others I can’t think of rn

kind of random but the entire lmd! coulson thing rubbed me the wrong way. Made worse when Davis was brought back as a favor to Piper, since those actually dead people did not consent to it at all.
Like Coulson is literally brought back from the dead, despite specifically accepting his death because he DIDN’T want to go through the whole ‘being back to life thing’ again, and for what? to help them out on a mission that no longer has anything to do with him since he’s...y’know, DEAD??
And let’s be honest, there is no possible way Simmons was truly capable of giving LMD Coulson all his memories back. Even if she had his brain scans from before and stuff, she’ll be missing things from s5. It’s why he couldn’t remember the letter he wrote to Daisy. LMD! Coulson was out here with gaps in his memories, with the knowledge that he’s actually dead and buried six feet under, and the knowledge that his team would do such a thing and it’s not fair.
He literally has to be ‘shut down’ and ‘charged’ which is horrifying and you can see the stress and how frustrated he is in 7x09.
Add on his relationship with May, and things are ten times more complicated.
Also, I get being upset that your ship didn’t really ed up together, but it just makes no sense to have May and Coulson end any differently? Like, how is she supposed to spend her days with a robot who’s like the guy she loves who she actually had to bury?
Their relationship was never going to work out the second he died and they both clearly knew that.
It’s why she was so dismissive and distant throughout the season and even after their few conversations together where they got to speak honestly, a happy ending wasn’t in store for them.
He’s painfully aware of the fact that he isn’t actually human. That he might feel like Coulson but he’s not.
And she knows it too. She has actual empath powers.
I get why the writers brought him back, since it was the final season and all, but his ending and arc could’e definitely been handled better.  Him sticking around and seeing the world alone is actually extremely depressing given all of this.
It’s kind of horrifying to think about and this leads me to Davis again.
Piper requested a robot version of her friend be made? before even speaking to Davis’ wife? And now this LMD is out there while the real Davis is dead?
Is that how grief will work from now on? Anytime someone dies it’s like ‘no worries! Let’s make an LMD!”? I understand the show is now over and so all of these are decisions the writers don’t ever actually need to deal with later on, but still. The ending was certainly better than many endings out there, but it could've used some work.

how does aos continue to always outdo itself? every season, it gets crazier and crazier. like season one is pretty normal, seems pretty typical of the mcu, the only odd thing is how coulson came back to life, it didn't affect skye, it affected garrett like crazy, and now coulson has hypergraphia. then season two has inhumans, okay, but that's easy enough to work with, to see that's crazy would be like saying the concept of x-men is insane. then season three comes along, and jemma is stuck on another planet, okay. and now ward is dead on that planet, alright. now ward's dead body is being possessed by an immortal inhuman that mind controls other inhumans, okay. season 4, there are ghosts? alright, okay. also ghost rider. and robbie's uncle is breaking physics, okay, using the book of the damned. which changes based on the the viewer and corrupts people. also fitz & radcliffe made a scarily human like android, alright. now aida is making brains out of light after reading the darkhold, okay. robbie is in hell now, alright. radcliffe replaced may with an lmd, okay. mace isn't inhuman, this is fine. crap, everyone was replaced by lmds, this is fine, this is fine. okay, okay, they're all in a virtual prison where hydra took over & fitz & may are #2 and #3 in hydra. also aida is #1 and has fallen in love with fitz and made a real body for herself but she does not take rejection well. coulson is ghost rider, cool, and he kills aida. and now they're all in future in space and have to time travel to stop this from happening. also daisy might be the one to destroy the world, that's fine. oh, deke, he's fitzsimmons' grandson, and he has a crush on daisy. also coulson is dying and talbot has superpowers. now talbot is going to destroy the world, but daisy stops him just in time, cool. now fitz is dead. but wait! there's another fitz floating around in space with enoch, they can find that fitz. coulson is dead. now coulson's doppelganger with no memories is on earth & killing people and demon birds. also he wants to nuke the landing site for izel. okay, jemma found fitz, but now they're in a chronicum mind prison and evil versions of themselves try to kill themselves, but then the evil ones make out in front of the good ones. now fitzsimmons are on a ship with izel, but they just realized she's evil. okay, but they kill her, right? nope, she possessed davis. and may. and diaz. and piper. and deke. and fitz. and pretty much everyone else, notable ones being mack, piper, davis, and elena (she killed davis :( ). oh, also coulson accidentally created a clone of himself when the monoliths blew up and all. that clone is immortal and host of some crazy powerful thing. and it's half way through the second to last season.
and what's great is that you just get used to it. like, i probably forgot so much stuff on this list because they just seem normal now. i mean, i almost forgot to mention tahiti and ghost rider, so that is saying something.

Dear whoever first said that Daisy saw Coulson- the real, non-LMD Coulson- in the “afterlife” so to speak when she died for those few moments in the finale… I’m in your walls.

I've been rewatching episodes from agents of s.h.i.e.l.d. from all over the seasons lately and I just wanted to share some random thoughts:
Simmons used to be. such a good character??? I never fucked with her fandom (every time a woc is higher in the narrative than a white girl the racists come out to play and they are NOT original about it smh), but her actual character? before she became completely subsumed to The FitzSimmons unit?? I'm in mourning here, people.
I actually caved and watched the episodes I had left from season 6. this means that I finally found out how Flint (darling <3) came to be in the present. otoh, I love it! I love that Mackelena ~made him up with their minds + the monolith of creation, that this means there's a Flint in the alternate timeline still being a hero and helping rebuild earth. on the other, this makes me wish he'd been in season 7 even more. those themes of identity, "am i even real?" are my catnip. we did get that with lmd!Coulson, of course, but why not both *-*
this rewatch reminded me that I used to ship May and Daisy-then-Skye A LOT back in season 1 lmao. *sighs* my lesbian age gap ships keep getting mother-zoned smh. I'll compensate for this by sexualising (even) more surrogate mother-daughter pairings from now on (I'm doing my part on my original stories. trust me).

@rad-roche NOIR TIME! Turning my assignment in very late.
Agent Phil Coulson may not be a dame, but he does have a lot or weirdly specific things in common with Nick Valentine!
Tumblr media
Your tutorial post on pulp covers was wonderful! But this was so many kilometres out of my stylistic comfort zone that the entire time was like agh! what the hell am I doing?.?? (And why it’s taken over a week). I found a lovely cover for reference “The Deadly September” on the archive you have linked in the tutorial.
Below is things I had to adapt to achieve a similar effect in Procreate, the reference images I used and, the worlds’s most convoluted speed-paint. (Learning new things is messy!)
⚠️THE SPEED-PAINT FLASHES QUICKLY A LOT !! ⚠️
Also I’ve listed some of the weirdly specific similarities between Coulson and Nick! so SPOILERS for Agents of Shield seasons 1-6 (I haven’t gotten around to watching 7 yet, and agents of shield isn’t MCU canon anymore anyway) and Nick’s story / far harbour in Fallout 4! (Spoilers below the speed-paint)
Procreate edits:
Totally used the back button more than I should have. I think I changed brush at least 3 times and edited the texture layers way more before it got to a point I was even remotely happy with. The brush I ended up settling with was procreate’s “Tarraleah” in the ‘artistic’ category, unaltered.
Procreate does have screen layers so was able to use that as in the tutorial, I set my chosen grunge at 90% opacity after inversion.
The contrast / brightness layer was tricker since that’s not a feature in procreate (??????), after lots of messing around I found that filling a layer with black and setting it to “soft light” mode and 85% opacity brings the paper texture I used away from the overly white tones without messing with the colour too much.
Since procreate doesn’t support per layer colour dropper, I had all of the texture layers in a folder so it can be hidden with one click, though personally I tend to guess the colour I need on the wheel rather than use colour dropper, so hiding the texture wasn’t an issue for me so much.
The colour check layer was also a black filled layer but this was set to colour mode as in the tutorial.

⚠️THE SPEED-PAINT FLASHES BRIGHTLY AND QUICKLY ⚠️
VVVVVVV SPOILERS FOR AGENTS OF SHIELD 1-6 AND FALLOUT 4 VVVVVVV
NICK VALENTINE AND AGENT COULSON SIMILARITIES (in my opinion):
Good people at heart
Multiple life shattering, personality altering crisis each.
Experimented on against their will by a group with highly advanced technology resulting in their unethical resurrection. Institute for Nick and Fury’s project TAHITI / Guest Host for Coulson.
Consciousness placed into a Synth / Life Model Decoy after their death against their will (LMDs are marvel’s version of synths with all the ‘is it a person’ and ‘the infiltrators are ruining our organisation’ that come with that) both are in highly modified unique Synth/LMD hardware
Both have killed an enemy they have been hunting for years for nothing but revenge, Eddie Winter for Nick and Ward for Coulson. (Though nobody stays dead in agents of shield)
Part of the plot requires entering a simulation with other peoples memories. DiMA’s memories for Nick and the Framework for the shield crew.
A partner that they can’t see because one of them was murdered as collateral damage. Jenny for Nick, and Coulson is the dead one for Audrey (the cellist)
Betrayed at a great personal cost by the organisation they were upholding when the org. Is revealed to be corrupt/evil. Police being in on Winter’s scheme for Nick and shield being hydra for Coulson.
Key Mission requires strapping them into a memory machine and poking around their brains/memories. Nick with kellogg’s memories and Raina’s need of Coulson’s memories from after he died in New York (though Coulson’s is a lot more traumatic on account of him being human at the time and marvel’s memory machine being painful)
Intentional memory loss forced on them by a third party. Nick’s institute knowledge and Coulson’s unawareness of his resurrection by Fury.
So much trauma, they can’t catch a break.

Marvel’s “What If…?”, Agents of SHIELD edition:
1) What if Jemma Simmons sacrificed herself instead of Leo Fitz? (result: Simmons develops hypoxia, Fitz goes undercover into HYDRA and befriends Bobbi Morse)
2) What if Trip was an Inhuman? (result: Trip survives but is hunted down alongside Skye due to their Inhuman heritage)
3) What if Grant Ward defeated Coulson on Maveth? (result: Fitz and Ward escape the planet but Ward is immediately imprisoned, Coulson’s corpse is possessed by Hive)
4) What if Robbie Reyes escaped in time? (result: Robbie is present during the LMD crisis)
5) What if Deke Shaw wasn’t Fitzsimmons’ grandson? (result: Deke is actually Coulson and May’s grandson)

Remember when Coulson said that he’d never leave Daisy in any universe and when he remembered her in the framework and knew her as Sarge and even as a chronicom with LMD hardware. Two times he wasn’t exactly himself and a third time that it wasn’t even him. He still knew her.

Do anyone still remember Agents of Shield? You know, the TV show that Marvel studios keeps trying to ignore and now people are debating it if is cannon or not?
I really love that show and it's one of my favorite early Marvel TV series, beside Jessica Jones. Actually, now I know why I like MCU Moon Knight. Just like my previous faves, it keeps itself in it's own bubble and focus more on characters.
But Agents of Shield, while the first season dragged on. The moment it stopped constricting itself to a larger source material (movies AND comics). That is when the storytelling finally shines.
It's not a faithful adaptation of the 616. It is simply taking the core concepts, elements and makes it its own. It did Inhumans first before Ms. Marvel did, a better Secret Wars plot than the series Secret Wars (only with robots, sprinkled in with the concept of the Matrix and Darkhold). Imagine, mixing the Ghost Rider, the Matrix, Hydra, and the Darkhold into a plot that all connects to each other.
And Phil dies more times than Loki did.
Seriously, go watch it. Slog through the first few episodes, because as soon as the Hydra reveal happens, Shit hits the fan and that when the real ride starts.
Man, no wonder I like MCU Moon Knight.
The protagonist also dies, and just walks it off like it's nothing. And even when the protagonist DO dies, the plot demands that they come back, again.
In the Agents of Shield final season, Phil Coulson finally do dies for real. At least the original one, BUT, due to shenanigans with Hydra, again, Phil Coulson have Indepth knowledge of how the organization works, and they need him back to stop Hydra.
They didn't resurrect him though; they already did with alien blood. Instead, they created an LMD clone of Phil Coulson, and it's even a plot point there the LMD have to come to terms that he isn't even Phil, just a robot who is designed to think, act, and behave like Phil.
