So, over the time I've come back here, I've become pretty confident and proud of my once hidden passion about sick characters, sickfics and sick comfort/whump... 🌡️

And you all have been so supportive and sweet despite my weirdness so I thank you for that. You helped me feel more confident in my otherwise weird fixation <3 So, for my birthday I thought I'd try and make up a little drawing challenge for anyone who wants to give it a try... There are soo many talented artists on this site (and in this fandom)

So here's the challenge and the rules!! (featuring my two main lil targets ofc :3)

If you're in the RainCode community you can target anyone, but as you know, my main targets are Yuma and Makoto. If they're also your faves and who you decide to use, that will make me extra happy!

Some tips for anyone new to drawing a sick day scenario art. A few things that make it look convincing are the following:

Pajamas or Loungewear

Messy Bed Hair

Fever flushed face w sweat or at least a red nose

Tired Eye bags

Shivery body

Ice Pack or a Compress on the head

Thermometer sticking from their mouth

LOTS OF BLANKETS

Tissues or medicine surrounding them

Tea or Soup (or both)

Those are just to name some from the top of my head. If you'd like some pointers on how to make a character look ill, check out my Fever Coloring Guide. This is for digital artists but traditional artists can try it too!

You can add injury or angst to the scene but I'd like illness to be the main focus of it.

The scene can be anything you want to, it can be fluffy and wholesome (with a caretaker) it can be angsty, or it can be silly. Its all up to you! Do it for the sake of fluff! Caretaking scenes are the best for any kind of relationship >w<

Either way, have fun with it!! I look forward to see what people make if they decide to give it a try! It doesn't even have to be a full on picture! Doodles and sketches are fine too! Just show me something >w<

Batman (Batfam) my love my life, but 9-1-1 is a close second with one-offs for a lot of my other passing interests.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Floppy Bird - crack fic that was meant to be an angst fic that I never understood why people liked so much asfhjs

cocoa on a cold night - a classic timby holiday fic that I wrote in the middle of summer, talk about environmental storytelling

secrets un(revealed) - the only purposeful long fic I've ever written, and also the most trope mashing I've ever done with reverse robins, magical realism au, and delicious delicious miscommunications (in my head the only fic that deserves to be in the top five :wheeze: )

Eggshells - vent fic alert !! very embarrassing that people like this I try not to think about it ":)

taking the blade (for you and yours) - a round robin fic written with the server and CHOCK full of Damian suffering.

any of my death fics probably? I think with DC a death is a little more inconsequential than other fandoms just because of how often it's unpermanent, so as a concrete answer, I'll say for you (i would cross the line). nothing quite like parental grief.

oh god I have so many wip that I am holding out hope for but my biggest WIP is an unpublished hellhole affectionately entitled "Death Pit" by everyone who is working on it- most notably because it features a literal Death Pit, every horror, angst, whump, and trauma trope you can think of, and a cast of characters and a plot thread so long we have 20+ page outline documents that aren't even fully updated... I shudder to think what will become of it one day, I imagine sentience isn't very far off

16. What are your writing strengths?

why is this an interview question. I dont know my strengths really?? um. I have good ideas, that one I'll say. execution is a different story (likely one that will never get told. like the rest of my good ideas)

I also think I do fairly well with scene descriptors. I really like to set a scene because I'm seeing a movie in my head and you all should too!

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I'm down to clown globally! I dont like to use google translate though, so if im writing in another language it's only because SOMEONE on the server is a native speaker and can vouch for my text.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

oh god one direction. head in hands. it was an 'adopted by 1d' fic that I made my mom beta, and turned it in to my 6th grade English teacher as my creative writing assignment. then I made a poem about it. then I wrote a song about it. thankfully it never got published and is trapped in the cursed purple file folder it was 'hidden' in since 7th grade. my first published fic was almost 7 years later with a Gomens fic!

20. Favourite fic you've written?

AHh um. favorite child scene here, but top contenders include: lithium + 5 for its graphic design and medical accuracy, fiery veins on speechless days for its emotional whump that makes me hurt every time I reread it, [PODFIC] wither on the shore which is not a fic I wrote but one of my favorite podfics of @silk-scarlet-ribbons 's works.

10. Top three favourite fic tropes.

how do I answer angst for every single one 🤩 sike let’s see I do love whump (hurt/comfort may fall into this category for me but there’s usually not much comfort because I’m shit at finishing my series and so it’s just hurt before the happy ending WHOOPS).

gotta have me some angst smut oooooof that is a top tier trope right there. it’s so fun to be so mad. at. the. other. person. but. also. why. am. I. so. attracted. to. you. FUCK let’s fuck. (this typically goes hand in hand with the “enemies” to lovers type deal which yes but I do like a pit stop or at least a backtrack to friends then lovers again).

and finally, the love is requited they’re just idiots is gold. the angst that can be woven in is chefs kiss give me all of it forever and ever.

11. Three tropes that are fine but overrated.

literally any AU ever 💀 i'll probably get canceled over this take but AUs are overrated imo - other people can write them, that's fine. you will rarely see me write a true AU, if you look closely enough it's just a bit of canon divergence typically lmao the reason i like the characters are usually tied to the universe they live in

there. was. only. one. bed. like don't get me wrong, this one is fun but also it's just meh. people hype it up and idk feels overdone. i only want it if it's chock full of angst like helnik in SaB.

another one that might get me shunned is secret relationship. idk like it’s just always fluffy and that’s so far from my vibes, we don’t mesh. people love it (& fake dating which isn’t as overrated ig) but well, it’s fine. not my cuppa.

16. Are one-shots really underrated?

Ok so imma say yes, absolutely. And then I’m gonna rant about it.

I feel like there’s been this shift across the world of fanfic that has created this idolization of long multichaptered (or series) fics and a sort of shame/inadequacy impressed upon those writers who stick with one-shots, short or long. It’s always “omg will you continue this” and “when’s the next chapter” and “could you do a part two.” Like sometimes, sometimes a fic doesn’t have to hit 100k or 10k or even 1k to be complete. There can be beauty in less is more, leaving a universe “open” is not some cardinal sin that one-shot authors should repent for because we didn’t feel the need to suck it dry. This is not to say multichap or longer series are bad!!! God I have a couple of my own lmao. Just that not every fic has to be that. A well-written, flowing prose that intertwines with an intriguing plot in less than 2k that ends there and ends well- whether open to interpretation or tied with a bow- is like hitting the goddamn jackpot for me. I honestly don’t read fic much at all anymore because I quite simply do not have the time to read these 10k+ individual chapters that people feel the need to write (imo that pressure has been arbitrarily placed on us as the “ability” to write these long ass fics is deemed “better” or “stronger” than shorter one-shots). I am far more impressed when a writer can blow me away with 500 words and I’ve run the gamut of emotions and reeling for more but also know I am perfectly capable of envisioning what that more is in my head.

Once again, absolutely nothing against writers of novels people call multichap fics, in awe that you have the patience tbh 😂 but do I think the concept of a one-shot and leaving it at a one-shot is underrated? Yes a thousand freaking percent, yes. And that’s not just the I have a wip list out my ass that I now wish were just one shots in me talking 💀 lmao

20. Do you work on a single project or many at the same time? How does that work for you?

LOL well. I rarely if ever write two fics simultaneously, that sounds way too confusing for me. I will occasionally hop from one idea to another and frankly that’s happened way more because I can’t seem to finish and publish a single gd fic lately. But typically, I work on a fic by itself and then move on—not necessarily finish the entire series (see above) but I can’t work on two fics truly at the same time. Currently nothing is working for me though so, rip 🥹

1) How many complete fics/one shots do you have that you have not published (yet)? I have three oneshots complete that I haven't posted yet, two of them I'm planning to post at some point soonish tho!

2) How many WIPS do you have right now? 2 series and 6 oneshots (that I'm serious about rn).

3) Do you take writing requests or write original ideas, or both? I don't officially take requests usually, but sometimes I could be prompted. I mostly do what pops into my head at any given moment.

4) If you do take requests, how many do you currently have? I have 3 sitting in my inbox from the one time I did ask for them and I am so sorry for being the slowest ever omg.

5) How many fandoms do you write for? Uhh mostly it's Pedro Pascal Cinematic Universe boys and Triple Frontier. Some drabbling Star Wars, Narcos, DCU stuff going on at times.

6) Are there any fandoms you wrote for in the past that you no longer write for? No

7) Do you write for ships, reader inserts or other? Mostly reader inserts, some OC too, haven't tried ships yet but I would really like to!

13) Is there a trope/genre you like to read, but not write? I don't really write angst/whump, although I also read those more rarely than fluff or smut for example. I do prefer reading smut to writing it.

18) What do you personally consider the word counts of "Drabble", "One shots" and "fics"? For me drabbles are maybe anything below 700 words, oneshots are technically anything that is more than a drabble and not in two or more parts, and then, to me, fics are any and all of it. Fics are fics.

19) Which do you prefer to write more? HC, drabbles, oneshots/fics, multi chapter stories, other? I mostly write oneshots, and prefer those, but I have done all the others too!

20) Are there any stories you have discontinued? If so, why? No. My series are on an accidental hiatus, but definitely not discontinued.

21) What is one of your main "pet-peeves" as a writer on Tumblr? Fortunately I haven't faced any nasty behavior myself, but it does pain me to see other writers treated like they are basically expected to cater to everyone's needs at the same time. It's just not possible to do, and people need to learn to live with that.

22) Do you write a particular time of day? Usually from 10:30 pm to 2 am is my time to shine, but recently I have tried to write during the day/evening too, just so I can go to bed at a reasonable hour lol.

23) Do you listen to music, ambiance/noise, etc to write or do you need silence? I always have headphones on to block out possible noises from my partner lmao, but there's nothing coming through the headphones. I have tried listening to music or white noise a couple of times, but usually silence is the best.

24) Do you outline your fics at all before writing? Yes, especially if it's a multi part or a long oneshot. Stuff below 2.5k words, no.

25) Do you post your writing as soon as you finish it, or do you schedule it to come out at a specific time/day? I never schedule, usually when it's done I want it out and over with right away hahah.

1. How did you start shipping Spones?

I started shipping spones when I somehow got it into my head that Spock would have an irrational desire to pick McCoy up and carry him around! I think adestroy’s comics first introduced me to the concept of spones, and it didn’t hurt that the first episode of TOS that I ever saw was All Our Yesterdays lol

Great spones fics (Surgeon’s Mate by belmanoir springs to mind), regular content from sleepymccoy throughout 2015-2017 or so, and excellent fanvids on YouTube by Danzinora Switch all helped to keep me interested in the ship.

2. Why did you ship them?

My “true” ship is McSpirk, but the great thing that the spones relationship has over the spirk relationship is the tension. Spones has what every romcom wants (and usually fails) to have: two people who are clearly well-matched for each other in terms of intellect, ideals, lifestyle and personality, but who have got off on the wrong foot due to relatively minor differences in temperament, mode of expression, prejudices and insecurities.

This tension can be played equally well for comedy and for angst. Furthermore, they are both such honest and loyal people that a serious meaningful relationship is totally plausible, opening up possibilities for fluff or epic romance. So you can have anything you want, with spones!

Also (unlike Kirk, unlike Spock), McCoy simply will not experience fulfilment without marriage. He is lonely and his career and friendships cannot fully sate that loneliness. He needs total commitment to and from one person. And Spock is the best match for him.

3. What are some reasons you like Spock and McCoy as characters?

Well I only fell into the Star Trek fandom because of Leonard Nimoy’s expressive face! Spock has remained my favourite character because I admire his stoicism, his utter integrity, his deadpan wit; and I relate to his reticence, awkwardness and (imo) demisexuality.

It took me a while to really like McCoy. In the show, the writers sometimes didn’t do the character justice, and the spones arguments don’t always make sense. But the fandom has really developed McCoy’s character as it was meant to be and as DeForest Kelley portrayed him. I love his sass, his selflessness, his mistrust of space and technology, the way he covers up his deep emotions with cantankerousness and surface emotions.

Above all, the great thing about McCoy from a shipper’s point of view is his boundless potential for pining! He breaks his own heart at the slightest provocation – which means he has limitless potential for bliss once things work out in the end.

4. Some of your fave things about liking Spones: tropes, fics, headcanons etc?

I like that spones works particularly well as an AU. Now normally I don’t even like AUs. With spirk, for instance, I can’t stand AUs because they can never be better than the actual spirk relationship in TOS, so what’s the point?

With spones, though, it seems as though TOS is almost the worst possible outcome, as though Spock and McCoy would, in any other universe or circumstances, have come together more quickly, easily and completely? So whether it’s a completely different AU (like Regency era or cowboys or something) or just a “what if this episode had gone a little differently” AU, there’s endless scope.

I’m sorry for the late reply! I saw this submission in the inbox but, before I could do anything, my power went out for days so I’m now just taking a chance to look at your answers!

That is a hell of an introduction to Spones! All Our Yesterdays has a lot of Spones content, Adestroy has such great comics, but when sleepymccoy made all that spones content from 2014-2017, it actually was one of the reasons I actually made a tumblr. Danzinora Switch’s videos are WONDERFUL but honestly her fics? Such good gen fic I’m cry. I can see how you got sucked into the Spones very quickly.

I, too, love McSpirk! (My multishipping butt collects ships like no one’s business lmao) You do make a great point about Spones having what most romcom movies want but don’t always succeed at with their main interests.

You are so very right about the writer’s not always doing justice to McCoy’s character (sometimes they write him antithesis to what has been established AS his character in other episodes -- I’ve discussed this before with Trek-Tracks, but Bev and I agreed that some of these writers would write Spock & McCoy as opposites, even on positions that would definitely be very out of character for McCoy, if it meant it was the “opposite” of what Spock was presenting, and it’s just very frustrating) and the amount of thought Deforest Kelley put into McCoy is quite amazing (I have a press release where he talks really in-depth about it, it’s a wonderful read!) and it’s nicer that fans have seen through some of that OOC bs and came up what maybe they were trying to establish with him at the time but didn’t always succeed.

And yes, to the boundless potential for McCoy angst, whump and pining. Goodness.

You have a good point about AUs! They really do work well transposed into all kinds of AUs (I know, I’ve accumulated to many in my fic wips lmao) which is a shame because there aren’t enough AU fics for this pair. In recent years, I’ve started to see more of them, but there is definitely room for more!

It’s been awhile since I’ve read Surgeon’s Mate, but I remembered it to be pretty good, and if anyone wants to read it, you can find it on AO3 here. I do remember it’s a pretty “old” fic, like 2011? 2012? It’s been awhile.

If you like Danzinora Switch’s fanvids, I think y’all would enjoy the gen fics. The fics are SUCH a joy to read, especially like that one where Spock & McCoy time travel to Vulcan’s past. It can be all found and read here, on fanfiction.net.

HELLO SARA!!! Might I just say THANK YOU FOR PROVIDING FRIEND OMG!!! You have me beyond excited to answer these let me tell you haha!! Thank you so much truly, you always stop on by and even though I have a bunch of your older asks just in my askbox, I promise to get to them some day!! :D School happens sometimes LOL!! Alrighty now - enjoy! 

2. Why do you write fanfiction?

Fanfiction has always been a way for me to express myself. I’m not a person who does well expressing emotion to others - I tend to hide it, cover it with a smile, maybe some humor and intend to go cry about it later all alone. That’s just how I’ve always been, maybe it’s the introvert in me, but I hate when people see me cry. Not anything specific about it, it’s just weird for me. And so, fanfic gives me an outlet - when I’m happy, I write happy stuff, sad - sad stuff, angry - a whole lot of angry stuff. It’s always just been an outlet for me, especially during the pandemic where there was so much vast uncertainty where this, writing fanfic, was some sort of ever-present constant. It’s like a safety net, a little protective blanket. Knowing you can vibe all alone, play some music and just create a story with words.

I always found that fascinating truly - people can create a world from WORDS!! From mere WORDS! I think that it was truly drew me in - you can string words together and create something to read and something people will enjoy. Truly, it’s just so incredibly fascinating and more than anything a joy to do! 

3. What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works?

Hm, interesting question. I’ve always been told that I create characters that people really grow to love and care about. I’ve been asked before how to craft a character and put them in a story and if I ever have advice in that realm of things! And I’d say generally, I’m my #1 cheerleader, I’ll always love my writing no matter what stage it’s in because it’s truly me on that page and it’s what I want to see and what I want to see written across that page. 

BUT ALSO -- now that I’ve started crafting Death in Landslide, I’ve really been told that people enjoy that aspect a whole lot. They love the personification of Him, and how I incorporated Him into the fic! I think He brings a whole other dynamic to Landslide that really makes Landslide different in a way! 

@iilovemusic12us said it and I will ALWAYS bring it up - but she talked about how reading Landslide was almost like sitting at a poker match(?) if that sounds correct, in a darkened room with a spotlight over the two, as the BoB boys fade in and out of the background just awaiting the next move of either Death or Natia and I really love that comparison so so much! 

It’s like with each chapter more and more tension continues to build and you have no idea where it might end up leading in the end, but you want to know more and Death really brings that to the table! 

8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write?

Okay, I won’t be doing OCs for this because I click into the OC’s persona when I write them and just roll with it really, so I’ll do BoB boys for this! 

George Luz for me is definitely one of the easiest to write, I don’t know how to describe it, but I feel in some ways I can match his energy and just go with it and that’s where it comes from.

IS IT WEIRD TO SAY BOTH JOE LIEBGOTT AND RONALD SPEIRS?!? I don’t know what it is but those two come SUPER easy to me. Especially Speirs for some weird reason. Maybe it’s because in context I throw on 2WEI and suddenly I am embodying Ronald Speirs to the next level. I have absolutely no idea, nor why, but YES, these two as well! 

9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write?

I feel many people say this, but Richard Winters (for BoB). I’m not sure what it is, but I feel it’s so hard to hit his voice just right because - on the outside I feel he doesn’t seem super complex, but in reality I feel he really is and it’s shown throughout the entirety of the series. It’s why with Landslide, I’ve really worked on a different side of Winters, more of a ‘I have to warm up to you before we are on good terms’ sort of person and having him have to combat Natia in multiple circumstances brings that along. But ultimately he is always the most difficult for me, but sometimes, most of the time, in a good way!

16. Any guilty pleasure trope(s)?

FRIENDS-TO-LOVERS, man I am such a sucker for that trope 100%, I always am and always will be, just everything about it, I’ll always love it. BUT ALSO - found family. God I love found family. Found family just, any day I’ll take found family over anything. Found family is just *chef’s kiss*....*side eyes Landslide* LMAO!! I just really love these two! 

17. A trope you’ll never, ever write for.

Okay, I’m really bad with this question because I’m suddenly blanking out big time on it...uh.....maybe like someone who is written as ‘perfect’ I guess? Idk, just it’s not realistic and I can’t enjoy the story because everything goes just right when life is not anywhere like that. 

28. How well do you handle criticism when it comes to your writing?

Pretty well I feel! Of course constructive criticism is what I’m referencing because I really take that generously, especially when I know it will better me as a writer and a person in many senses! I’ve been told before that I took constructive criticism really well, so yeah I guess! BUT, criticism that is strictly just like hate, or passive-aggressive criticism or just a word dump of anger that is ultimately useless to me - I tell myself not to let it get to me but more times than not it does and I try not to lose my mind. But I have a great group of supportive people who help me through and have my back and recently 2 people really had my back and did it publicly on Wattpad (comments were deleted) and it meant a lot to me, just to know I always have people there. I just...this world has so much hate and hating on people who enjoy something like this and you get to read it for free - I know we should expect it but I won’t lie that if the person has an issue that can just stop reading and not waste their time on hate comments, but the world isn’t perfect SO! :)

B O T H !!!!!! Give me merciless angst and then absolutely tooth-rotting fluff FILLED with mixes of whump +hurt/comfort and you’ve sealed the deal for me LOL!!

I just ended up typing this on my phone's notes app. I still can't believe how primitive the tumblr app is. Thank goodness for copy/paste.

So I have a confession, nonny: I'm not terribly fond of the IronDad & SpiderSon relationship in fics largely because the majority of the stories just whump Peter and I'm not really fond of Peter whump. I think it might be his age, but I've also never been a fan of whumping the cinnamon roll character in any fandom I've been in.

And that's basically what a ton of the stories who star both Peter and Tony are. I'd actually like some recommendations of these two that have little to no Peter whump to better endear me to the genre. And how about a story where Peter has to save Tony instead? I'd love to see that. But yeah, too much Peter whump and where the hell are all the Stephen whumpers I'm going to cry.

Also, if the story is not IronStrange, Stephen tends to be poorly characterized (way too cold). Even if it IS IronStrange, Stephen still tends to be really poorly written in like 70% of them - OOC in several ways. A lot of authors who write him don't seem to get his nuances and he's mostly played for laughs or as a heavy hitter if anyone hurt Tony or Peter, and it's just too bland for me. That, along with my hyper-critical, uh, criticism of how minor characters are portrayed leave few recommendations from me in this particular genre of stories.

But I spent the last few days (thank goodness for the notes app) going through the tags to see what I could find/remember reading and there are a few that I enjoyed. I have quibbles of various sorts with all of them but I can set that aside for the most part and enjoy them for what they are.

Anyway, there's a wide way I can answer your question, nonny, as it's quite open to interpretation. If you're looking for the Supreme Family trope, I've found the tag and organized it by kudos. Most are ironstrange with this tag.

It's honestly not a trope that I prefer in my MCU fiction and I avoid most stories with it (as well as for other reasons), but here are two under that tag that I did enjoy:

Sunrise in Exile by Ragdoll

I've only read to 17 IIRC (it's a really really really long fic with mega chapters) but up to that chapter at least it's presented a very nuanced look at Tony that's very different and yet feels completely in character. Stephen and Peter are completely on point. The originality and world building thus far are magnificent. And as of Chapter 17 the other characters in the background seem to be written true to their characters, which is more important to me than any ship. When side characters are written poorly, it reflects on how the main characters are written and just throws me out of a story. Definitely my favorite fic that uses this tag that I could find in a quick search. Very strong writer, very original story.

Hold Me Still by lantia4ever

More Stephen and Tony with background Peter, but he's talked about a lot. And I'm a sucker for Stephen whump so that basically boosts this one lmao. It's a fun story with a premise I haven't seen before either, so kudos to the author for that bit of creativity.

From there, I looked at the Peter Parker & Stephen Strange tag for stories that also had Tony Stark and got this list, again organized by kudos.

The Courtship of Peter Parker's Father (Figures) by flyingonfeatherlesswings

Another IronStrange, but it's sweet and I do like this author. And Peter's not overly childish which is what kills Peter for me in a lot of fanfiction, as if these writers have never actually interacted with a teenage boy before. Which I appreciate. Yeah, I'm not the best person for your question... I'm quite critical of how Peter is written lmao. But yeah, this is a nice bit of fluff.

We're Not There Yet by Isnt_it_pretty_to_think_so

Stars Peter and Tony mostly, but Stephen is there and portrayed a bit differently than he usually is in these sort of fics. Gen too so something different. Good pacing, and a good original idea.

turn back the clock (and I'll try again in the morning) by madasthesea

Again mostly a Peter and Tony story, but Peter's character is executed very well here and it's a great twist on the concept. Stephen is a bit cold for my tastes and it would be nice if he were more 3D but it's still a good story. I adore how Ross is made a villain in one instance because Ross is a flaming asshole and not enough people remember that.

Now if someone could take this concept in this story and do that to Stephen, I'd be really really appreciative. Not sure how'd it all work out but a spell to just increase the suffering of the repeated day is such a great bit of angst that I need in my life.

The End of Infinity by FriendlyNeighborhoodFangirls

Also stars Loki along with those three. Very very long, certainly original. Most people will like this story. I wish she'd gone drpepperony instead of Pepper with an OC (if Stephen had to be romanced - I'd have preferred he hadn't) but that's more personal preferences than anything. Doesn't change the fact that it's very original and certainly stars all three in various capacities. There's places I could critique it like any of these stories but for such a young writer she's done very well and improved immensely in her storytelling time in fandom in a short amount of time. I look forward into seeing where her writing journey takes her - I think she'll go far.

Dysfunctional: A Strange Encounter by ApolloLoki97

A true Avengers as Family rebuild after Civil War in the first two stories, and you meet Stephen in this one. Great characterization of everyone. Overall this is a fantastic series if you like Peter and the Avengers in general, but it's in this story that Stephen properly shows. Which is why it's my favorite.

Let’s Try This Again by peterparkr

I just discovered this one. A tragic comedy. A comedic tragedy. Basically Stephen and Peter fix the last fight in Endgame. It takes over 10,000 words of attempts to do so. Their sanity goes a bit. The story is unique and really a dark comedy at its core. Also happy ending.

To Lose, Nonetheless by VisionaryGalaxy

Ahhhhhh I'm a sucker for sacrificial!Stephen. Another IronStrange with a dose of whump for Peter and Stephen. (I really want her to continue her kidnapping fic but I also didn't want to actually spam her inbox like I threatened to so I just silently pine for it now. If someone here is good friends with her though I'd be obliged if you poke her on behalf of my pining. This is a bad fic review. Just go read it).

And this one was under neither tag but I remembered it existed.

Just Another Day in New York by dragonnan

Tony has more of a side role here. But what we have is lovely Peter and Stephen interaction. And a spoonful of Stephen whump just to sweeten it. So yeah of course I like it.

I don't know if this was what you were looking for, nonny, but I hope it's something.

Now if Stephen can become as popular as the other two after his movie comes out I'd be a very happy clam.

As much as I love the idea of love at first sight, slow burn makes a more interesting story. It also seems more realistic and less shallow in a way.

Fake Dating or Secret Dating

Secreting dating brings out some curiosity in me. Why are they hiding their relationship? Will their relationship forever remain private? Do they both want the relationship to be private? You can just do so much more with secret dating.

Enemies to Lovers or Best Friends to Lovers

Okay I admit it, I'm a sucker for enemies to lovers. Especially hero and villain romances that are full of drama and conflicted emotions on both sides.

“Oh no, there’s only one bed!” or Long-Distance with Correspondence

The long distance trope has more content. Not to say I don't love when there's only one bed, but the long distance could range from fluff, sadness, angst, and more depending on the characters.

Hurt/Comfort or Amnesia

I love love love hurt/comfort. I consider myself apart of the whump community and I have a blog that I use to fully dive into that community. I always thought I was a terrible person in the past because I would have these messed up daydreams about my characters. Seeing that many people write that actually helped me and made me feel less alone.

Fantasy AU or Modern AU 

My main world isn't an AU, but for the most part its fantasy themed. I've had so much fun writing it, there aren't really boundaries (unless I put them in place). Im also a sucker for magic.

Mutual Pining or Domestic Bliss 

I love both tropes, but I think that domestic bliss is just so wholesome and endearing.

Smut or Fluff

I actually worked with a few ocs who accidentally got married and I love it. Its so random and who knows if it works out or not.

I remember back in middle school I thought the high school romance trope was so cute, it still is but its repetitive. Now I find older romances more fun because they can come from anywhere under any circumstances.

In time travel the smallest thing could cause a huge problem in the world and I don't see the fun in that. Though if it doesn't work like that, then I think it would be interesting, especially for showing the past.

Oh shit guys it’s another tag game. lmao just ignore this if you don’t care. 

1.      How long have you been writing fanfic?

This is so embarrassing cause like, cringe, but everyone starts somewhere right? I started writing fanfic when I was nine years old, and I started with an Esme/Carlisle Twilight fic. I wrote it in the notes of my iPad, back when notes looked like yellow paper. So there’s a throwback for you. 

2.      Who most influences your writing style?

Oh shit, I honestly don’t know. In terms of my playwriting, I say as humbly as possible even though I know it’s gonna come off bitchy, I do?? I draw heavily on my “inner voice” to make the dialogue (which is pretty well all plays are when you’re writing them, stage directions can be written however you want) as well written as possible. And then I re-read the play later and if I don't like how it sounds I adapt it. 

For fanfic probably @parkrstark @losingmymindtonight and @agib-2002, but they’re more of who I loved to read when I first started coming into the irondad fandom, and eventually I decided to write my own stories. 

3.      Favourite type of scene to write?

This, again, sounds awful but torture scenes. Just scenes that are absolutely dripping with angst and whump, emotional and physical, I LOVE that shit. 

4.      What trope is your favourite to write and/or read?

Protectiveness with some self-sacrifice thrown in. Again, generally in a captive/torture situation. I sound like a sick freak, eh? I just get a lot of feels when a character is so desperate to keep another safe that they will do ANYTHING to protect them. 

5.      What is one trope that you dislike?

I don't know if this counts as a trope or an AU but gender-bending. It’s just not my cup of tea. Same with OC’s being any more than antagonists and/or minor characters. 

6.      What AU do you wish to write but feel like you won’t manage?

Currently trying to muscle my way through a Disney AU I’ve literally been working on SINCE MARCH. 

7.      Do you outline, or write as you go?

Bit o’both. I just go generally, and then I think of something and go “wait! that’ll be good for later, these next few chapters have to lead up to that then.” 

8.      Past tense or present tense? Why?

Past, it’s just easier for me I think. Though I find in my writing that I kind of go between the two, (big no-no, I know, but alas,) depending on what I'm trying to convey in that scene. Present reminds me far too much of school essays. 

9.      Do you prefer to write one-shots or multi-chapters? Why?

It’s honestly a draw. I love the thrill of posting a story that people can anticipate and follow, since one-shots kind of fizzle if you’re not a well-known author. I also love planning out a multi-chapter fic, and all the character development and etc. But, if I’m just in the mood for some quick action, feeling, or a prompt won’t leave me alone, one-shot is my guy. 

10.   What is the kindest comment you’ve received on a fic? (Feel free to paraphrase or generalize!)

There is someone on my A03 that leaves the longest, most thoughtful comments on all of my work, even though their main fandom is Hamilton and now that I’ve half-transitioned to Irondad I don’t update that story as much anymore. Just, all their comments, I love them so much. It’s such a pick-me-up seeing those big paragraphs in my email with the comment. 

11.   What is the most gratifying aspect of writing fanfic for you?

The reactions of people who are reading. Like, truly, when I’m writing I try and imagine how the story is going to make someone feel and their reactions. That’s why I love comments cause I can share that experience with them a bit. :)

oooh this one is gonna be HARDDD. i’ll try to be brief about why i put each of them where they are buuuut:

thor: often alternates with loki for first place, but.. i guess right now, the movies are doing more with him, i’m reading comics about him, and he’s just more relatable to me in my current state (temper, fear of those he loves hurting, etc), which is generally why i start stanning a character anyway. he also is so invincible rn that any whump he experiences is like… more shocking and traumatizing for him initially (simply for never having experienced it before), which is a really refreshing way to write whump *_* so i’m loving (like ragnarok and iw were great for thor whump i must say)

Loki: in general, i went through like a 3 year period of stanning Loki over thor, so it’s only natural the love kinda shifts around. XD i still love him. he’s prickly, he’s witty, he’s envious (these are all compliments because they are what i want in a fave), he has little self-preservational instincts, which makes him extremely vulnerable to abusers. which. is. a. great. opportunity. for. sadistic. authors. like. me. :’) he’s also trying to heal. journeys to recovery and redemption are so my thing.

valkyrie thirdd. i really like how naturally she fits into the dynamic i hc between thor and loki. like, she is self-assured and minds her own business, which are both kinda… necessary when dealing with the odinsons lol. and she has a strong capacity to care for people once they get through to her, which i looove writing. i love writing her own journey to recovery, and how it can blend so well with loki’s. and how thor can ignite some of her feelings of inadequacy leading to some angst and conflict. (which makes more fuel for loki and val bonding). it’s great :D

gamora fourth. (though similarly to thor and loki, i’m just coming over stanning Nebula more than Gamora, so maybe it’s just the natural shifting I do.) i really like how out of all of these traumatized women, there’s radically different reactions to it. and gamora’s is like…. what an Ideal Recovery looks like to me. She’s good. No matter what happened, what she had to do, or what was done to her, she kept a strong sense of morality. In GotG 2 especially, you see her struggling so fucking hard to deal with conflict in a non-toxic way. She’s trying to be better. She’s trying to heal. No one had to tell her to do this. the second she saw a chance, she just did it. And *in* GotG 2, I think she does an incredible job at tempering herself and learning how to approach things (i.e. Nebula) in a sensitive way. It made me cry honestly. She’s my #1 role model in the MCU. I want to be like her. (why not better than Valkyrie? because she comes as a package deal with Peter Quill, who, while a great character in the movies, is not a character i stan in fandom-spaces. So it’s hard to include her as much.)

mmmmm I'ma say Grandmaster and Nebula are tied for last. however, last place is still RADICALLY ABOVE ALL OtHER MCU HEROES OKAY. like these are all basically my favorites. no one else comes close to these 5. so anyway, Nebula, already said exactly what i wanted in another post. Grandmaster: Obviously I don’t looove the Grandmaster lmao. I just love writing him. I love his character. His #1 purpose in life is fun, and fun for him is very much rooted in... like sadism? like not pleasure from pain exactly. but pleasure from seeing how far he can psychologically twist and bend and maybe maim while still having a functionally sentient organism before him lol. that’s kinda just fascinating for me, and exactly what i’ve always been looking for in a dubcon/noncon villain. Also immensely powerful, so I can basically have him do whatever he wants. It’s so great. Like I don’t understand why the universe has gifted me this incredible character to use as the villain i’ve always so desperately needed, but it did, and i am forever gratefull.

1. When did you start watching Supernatural?

I started my freshman year in college (2012) when season 8 was still airing! I would lie on my top bunk and watch the current 7 seasons on my old ass iPad. I still can’t watch a season 1 ep without thinking about that dorm room. (finger guns). My roommates watched the first few with me (I think it was one of their ideas to get into the show), but then they both stopped and I kept going. I used to watch Smallville when I was younger, and Supernatural (early seasons) would play right after, so I remember seeing the promos and being scared. Lmao. Imagine.

2. Who is your favorite in TFW?

Absolutely Dean. Dean Dean Dean. But I love all of them. Sam’s especially been growing on me since I started writing fic. Helps me get into his head space a little better.

3. Who is your least favorite in TFW?

I don’t have a least favorite? But I guess just in the order of favorites, it would be Cas? But again - not really a least favorite...

Oooh I don’t really have fave seasons, I have favorite arcs? Michael!Dean in s14 obviously, the almost Michael!Dean in s5. I loved the Mark of Cain, and Purgatory arcs.

Uh...again don’t really have faves, but I tend to not like seasons where Sam and Dean are fighting the entire time. Just... let them be brothers that bicker and love each other... please...

11. Opinions on Destiel?

I don’t really ship any pairing in the show, but like... I can definitely see the evidence in the show for why people ship Destiel???

12. Do you believe Supernatural queerbaits?

Sure - probably some eps more than others.

13. Seasons 1-7 or 8-14?

Oooh I don’t know that I can choose. I think as a whole, 1-7 were cleaner. But 8-14 has better story lines. I think that the seasons just get a little sloppier with the lore? Like it just kept getting bigger and bigger and they stopped being consistent? Like don’t even get me started on the fluctuation of angel abilities over the years. 

14. Favorite villain (plot wise)?

I’d have to think about it? But I think definitely Alternative Michael is my fave... It was the biggest disappointment of the show (getting cheated out of Michael!Dean in s5) and it’s the plot line that pulled me back into the show. And now look at me... writing fic about it...

15. Do you think they should end the Lucifer plot line?

Absolutely. It’s taking away from all my Michael!Dean angst!!!!!!!! 

16. Who do you think has gone through more trauma (Sam, Dean, or Cas)?

All of the above.

17. What’s your favorite Supernatural episode(s)?

I don’t really know... I mean fuck, there’s 300 eps. And anytime I think I have a fave, I remember another really good one. Some current faves are: Nihilism, Baby, Stuck in the Middle (With You), Dark Side of the Moon, Regarding Dean, Blood Brother... I’m sure there’s a million more... Ghostfacers is fun bc of the camera filming...

18. Do you like case episodes?

I like any ep that has good brother moments, and maaaybe a little bit of Dean whump or Dean angst... because I’m a bad person...

19. Who do you relate most to in TFW?

I don’t know if I RELATE to any of them, but Dean is my fave hands down. 

20. Why do you like Supernatural?

I genuinely thing that it has a lot to do with the cast. I think that Jensen and Jared just make the show the incredible experience that it is. When I’m watching TV or movies, I’m like... hyper conscious that what I’m watching is “acting,” and it makes the really cringy stuff so much worse. But Jensen and Jared (and everyone else) are just so... tight, and a real family, that it really makes the show so much fun to watch. There’s a million other reasons, also, but that’s probably number one.

21. If you could bring back one character and kill off another who would they be?

Kill Nick, bring back Benny. I’d kill off basically anyone to get Benny back. Okay not ANYONE... but... c’mon.... Benny... (Alex - we can team up to kill Nick together...)

ok, so it's RvB rec day!!!!! This is my first rec day since I had no idea that it existed before so hopefully I do this right!

Fics: 

All of Riathedreamer’s fics! 

Ria is seriously my favorive fic author of all time. She mainly writes Grimmons and all of her fics are amazingly in character and are completely plausable in canon. I couldnt choose a favorite fic because they are all good. She is also the queen of Grimmons angst tho so beware while reading her fics becuase there is  A LOT of grimmons whump and angst. Aome of her fics WILL make you cry... a lot. Anyway, Ria is amazing and super nice and she also has a tumblr you you can find her here @riathedreamer​. I really cant explain ecnough how good Ria is. Just go. Check out her stuff. Shes amazing.

Incremental Annihillation by  Septdeneuf 

This fic, like most of the others on this list, is pretty angsty and filled with Grimmons. This fic is an AU where the purge was successfully activated but was stopped before everyone was killed. The victims of the Purge end up being resurected, but at a price! I dont want to spoil it too much though so Im just going to say that if you like angst and charcters making difficult situations this is the fic for you! There is on NSFW chapter but if you dont like smut (like me) you can easily skip it. The fic updates every sunday and I believe that it is almost completed! 

All of Yin’s fics

Man all of Yin’s fics are amazing. My current favorites are Pillow Talk which is a series of Grimmons one-shots , both fuffy and angsty, Specials which is a superhero au, and Above Ground which is my absolute favorite fic of theirs. Above groud is a sci-fi? AU where the planet is separated by those who are privileged enough to live above ground, and the underground Slums where the lower classes are forced to live. This fic mostly follows Grif, who live in the slums, and Simmons, who lives aabove ground and their intereactions as the tensions between the Slums and Above Ground rise. This fic has themes of genocide, class differences, etc. and if you dont really like Grimmons, just about every other character in RvB makes an appearance and ships like Tucknington are definitely focused on as well. This fic is super long though (about 477,000 words) so it is a commitment, but a very rewarding one if you chose to read it!!

Why Do You Try So Hard? by Lieutenant_Kader

This fic is a Grimmons fic (surprise surprise) that follows Grif, Simmons, and a little bit of Tucker through basic training through Blood Gulch. This fic really goes into Grif’s experience on the doomed colony and shows what he went through the days following the massacre. In is an angsty fic and is written as if it is a collection of memories opposed to a sequential story. It really is one of the best doomed colony fics at the moment so if you are interested in that part of Grif’s history you should totally check it out!

Green is Definitely a Shade of Red by Prim_the_Amazing

thi fic is the only really silly one on the list. It is also the only one that is not about Grif and/or Simmons. This fic is a super cute fic about Locus essentially being adopted by Red Team against his will. It is super adorable and it really makes me want Locus to come back soon. Also, this fic 100% includes Donut painting Locus’s nails a sparkly green color too, so that might convince you to give this fic a try. you can also find @primtheamazing​ on tumblr as well.

@mercuryblacksleg Miles is amazing. His Red Team art absolutely makes my heart melt, especially his sarge. I die everytime I see his team bonding art. Some of my favorites have to be:  

Red Team Dragons: this is just so cute! I actually teared up the first time i saw it because of how tiny and adorable the Sarge dragon is and the little blep!!!! THE BLEP! Its just so freaking cute...

I think my answer would depend pretty heavily on whether Jason’s life gets any better or not-- specifically his mental health-- and I don’t know if that’s going to be the case. It would happen if I was in charge of things, but regrettably I am not.

Things as they are, Jason’s association with Bruce has been pretty terrible for him. The death/resurrection thing was traumatic on both ends, and then you got his estrangement from his family, all of the stuff with the League of Assassins, and now he’s killed a lot of people.

If Bruce hadn’t found him, we don’t know what would have happened, but I would assume four years in the foster care system and then... who knows.

The problem is that Jason was pretty messed up before Bruce got ahold of him, so I can’t say with any certainty that things would have worked out for him if he hadn’t gone with Bruce. I can pretty definitely say that it wouldn’t have involved dying and coming back to life, but I can’t say it would be fun. 

And even though Jason is doing really badly now, he’s very young in the grand scheme of things. If he can get to a better place that still involves Bruce, we potentially could be looking at decades of good stuff that ends up outweighing the bad. 

But for now, he personally probably would have been better off without Bruce. Of course, if that was the case, a lot of other people would be dead and/or worse off, but that’s not really the question here.

Oh boy that’s a complicated question

As a kid, I think Tim was highly idealistic and very eager to help. He was (and is) super smart, compassionate, and self-sacrificing... the problem being that if you continually sacrifice yourself, bad things tend to happen.

Tim volunteered to become Robin because he thought that Bruce needed him. Since that point, Tim has lost a whole lot of people: his birth parents, several of his siblings, and a lot of his closest friends (Bruce and Dick were fake-dead, Damian died, Cass died twice but both times very briefly, Bart, Stephanie, Kon).

All of that death (plus the trauma of 18086403658 near-death experiences and witnessing crime up close on a daily basis) has made Tim into a different person now than he was at the beginning. To quote Tam Fox, “Tim Drake is the saddest person I’ve eve met.” To quote Tim, “I grew up.”

Most of those people came back, but that doesn’t really fix things.

Grief is a big part of it-- so is this sort of exhaustion that makes Tim a little bit more likely to break rules than the others. His gray area is bigger. He’s a lot like Bruce in that he can be pretty calculating, and sometimes he isolates himself.

Even so, Tim has a lot of meaningful relationships (see above), and he never completely lost his nerdy-ass sense of humor or his empathy. Losing his birth parents was bad, but he did gain a new family, and that’s been good for him. His biggest motivation is still to help other people, and he’s great at it.

A Moment of Peace

A huge flaw in my writing is that I suck at grounding the reader in the scene. So literally when I wrote this, my #1 goal was to engage the five senses (via Thor whump lol) and really practice that description. (Please don’t reread the first chapter now bc you can literally see me ticking the 5 senses off, one by one lmao.) Even in later chapters, I wrote things massively out of my comfort zone (i.e. fight scenes ew, dialog between more than 2 characters ewwww), and it was really hard, but I think it came out well. And overall, I’m just really happy with my speculation for IW :) Sorry to brag, but even my insecure self can say I like Loki better in this than the canon Loki we got. esp in the chapter I’m writing now :’)

Brothers of Habit

the accumulation of my favorite favorite favorite things ever, including (but not limited to) trauma-bonding/shared trauma, complicated consent, thor whump, loki whump, brotherly angst and comfort, noncon, and noncon recovery. It was one of those fics where The Words randomly appeared at 3am, waking me up and forcing themselves on my crappy phone keyboard in pitch darkness, which, as most authors know, is super fun. (: And I’m just really proud of how the concept (“Thor and Loki have fucked so much that now they can’t stop???”) actually turned out rather.... believably? And not like a crack!fic??? Am both proud and relieved. XD Also I’m happy with the prose itself :D

Tempting Death

obviously this was written like 5 billion years ago, so I hope I can write a little better now, but for that time of my life, it was probably the best writing I was capable of and I’m really proud of it even to this day. Writing about psychological brainwashing on a character post-suicide-attempt is exactly as fun as it sounds (assuming ur like me lmao)

The Little Things

ahh different fandom (and seriously if u like Loki at all for the same reasons that I like Loki, I highly recommend the manga TRC ok), but I am so happy with this fic. o.o One of my biggest irritations about the manga was how Fai, after having an incredibly well done mental illness arc, was like... instantly cured at the end? So this fic was about showing the leftover difficulties in his recovery and how he has to continuously learn healthier and non-toxic coping mechanisms. Much slower recovery, never cured, and just an analysis of how his relationship with Kurogane is healthy&positive all around. I loved writing this <3

One Last Breath

this one isn’t a fic, it’s an original short story I wrote about rape culture and, on recommendation from a professor, am thinking about trying to publish, idk, we’ll see. But I wrote it for one of my assignments last semester, and I just feel like it’s the highest quality of writing I am capable of at the moment, and I’m really proud of it. And if I ever become Not Depressed and magically publish it or (more likely) get rejected too many times, I’ll let anyone who wants to read it ^_^ <3
