The checkered fabric beckons you forward. Your fear smothers all doubts. You're in no place to question any of this. What will they do if you don't listen? Who are they? The voice that comes from thin air. Certainly Steve too.
You touch the dress and move it aside to unveil the small lumps beneath. A set of red lace lingerie to match the shade of the checkers. You swallow tightly and pull your hand back. You look at your fingertips as if they've been singed.
You tremble and touch the hem of your shirt. They're watching. You shudder and slowly raise the cotton. You try not to think about what's happening. Just get through it.
You drop your shirt on the bed them quickly push down your sweatpants. You heap them atop the tee and close your eyes as you peel off your underwear. You sniffle as you don the red lingerie and figure out how to tie the little string at the waist of the dress.
Your eye is caught by the shiny red shape at the foot of the bed. A pair of heels. It's not hard to guess you're supposed to put them on.
There's a chime, the same jingle as before. You spin as you search around and tinkles again. It's coming from downstairs. You clamour out into the hall and cling to the banister as you descend. You go back to the kitchen and read the screen.
'Check your phone.'
Your heart leaps. You trip over your toes but keep upright as you run into the front room. You go to your phone but deflate in an instant. There's a video pulled up on it and nothing else. No status bar, no time. What the heck?
A message pops up over the paused video thumbnail, a woman's eye up close. You read the font in the bubble before it disappears.
'Upstairs bathroom. Press play. You'll know what to do.'
You lower the phone. Right. Not cryptic at all. You teeter on your heels before you can gain your balance again. You clop out and to the stairs. You take off the shoes before your climb and keep them in hand as you skirt down to the bathroom.
As you enter, there's a sparkly pink case on the counter. That wasn't there before either. You put the shoes on the tile and lean your phone against the mirror, leaning it just so before you tap play. You twine your fingers through each other as a beaming woman smiles at you from the screen. She welcomes you to her video with her cherry red lips and expertly lined eyes.
"Today, we're going to learn how to get the perfect look!" She chimes and frames her face, "so first, lets go over our tools."
She smiles so big, her cheeks are round, almost twitching as her eyes bulge just slightly. She lifts up a small bottle.
"Let's go over our base..."
She lists off the items, showing each to the camera. You reach to open the case as you listen, revealing a collection of cosmetics. Wow. You keep a few essentials, tinted moisturizer, some mascara, a touch of gloss, but nothing too substantial.
She presses on, going through everything you'll need for eye, lip, and cheek. When she finishes, she smiles even wider and stares. The camera lingers a bit too long and the hollowness in her eyes unsettles you.
"But first, we have to start with a naked face. Let's go!"
She claps her hands in front of her and the shot transitions. Suddenly, her face is barren of makeup. You notice the fatigue under her eyes and the vibrancy missing in her skin. She looks above the lens and her lips quiver. She gives a small nod and clears her throat, as if distracted by someone else.
"Alright, let's begin," her voice creaks at first but she quickly steadies it, "are you ready?"
You feel icky watching the video. You're not ready. This is demented. This cannot be real. It's a horror movie come to life.
"Find your primer," she presents a tube proudly, waiting.
You look down and search for a similar tube. You shake your head as you take it out and look back to the screen. She starts by showing you where exactly to apply the primer. You hesitate. The video on your phone pauses and another message pops up.
'I can wait, doll.'
You inhale and lean in. You focus on the screen and the video skips back ten seconds. You uncap the primer and follow along with the application. The longer you look at the woman, the more you notice. That mark on her neck, a patch darker than the rest of her skin.
She moves on to foundation. The video pauses again as you struggle to find the right bottle and a clean sponge. Then concealer, and some blush, bronzer, and highlighter. You're starting to sweat.
"And that's the base," she preens, tilting her head back and forth to show the effect of her contouring, "isn't that pretty?"
She stops, smiling, staring. The shot cuts again. She pulls her hand away from her chest and bats her lashes.
"N-now," she stutters, "now, we have to do our eyes." She leans closer to the lens and you notice the slightly puffiness in the brims of her eyelids, "remember, we don't want to mess this up. We have some nice waterproof products to make sure we stay perfect, from morning to night." She looks up, above the frame, "we don't want to be crying it all off because we had one bad day, right?
"Now, I'm going to try a nice shade of gold for today's look but you can really be creative. Go wild and choose whatever you like. But nothing too loud, we don't want to scare him away."
She winks at the camera in a theatrical manner. You take out a palette and lower your head. You can't move. You're frozen. This is too much. There's something just off about all of this.
"What kind of Stepford bullshit--"
The video stops. Another pop up. You peek up at it. There's only two big red exes in the bubble. Alright, fine. You open the palette and pick out a brush. The video resumes. You really hope this stuff is waterproof because you're about to have a goddamn breakdown.
You get closer to the mirror as you work on applying the shadow. You go with a subtle caramel and amber combination. You're not very good at it but the instructions are easy enough. Nothing too difficult as long as you keep up.
You finish the eye after fighting the liner. You're starting to get the hang of it. Wait. No. That's not a victory. You don't want this.
Eyebrows. Do you really need to do all this? Right, now lips. You take out the candy apple red and delicate trace the shape of your mouth. Finally, a setting spray that nearly makes you sneeze.
"And that's it. You're all done," the woman announces, "you're ready to--"
The screen cuts. The image of the woman with her makeup smeared covers the screen for a split second then disappears to a credit screen, congratulating you on completing the the look. You gape, stunned, and take a step back. Alright, this is twisted.
The video exits out and you're left only with a blank screen. The next message takes over the expanse; kitchen. You grab the phone and take it with you, swiping up the shoes as you go.
Downstairs, you plop the shoes down and face the Echo as it chimes again. Your next directive is on the screen. A timer that reads 'Dinner, t-minus 2 hours'. You hear the television mounted in the corner flick on and you turn to see the same woman as before.
"Hello. Welcome. It's good to see you." She puts her hands on the counter, staring again. She flinches. "Please, don't make--" The video cuts. "Today!" She points at the camera, "we're going to make a classic; meatloaf."
You walk closer to the screen. There's something wrong with this woman. This isn't Rachel Ray or Martha Stewart. This is horrifying. She pauses, nodding, her smile getting bigger, than falling, and spreading again. It's as if she's glitching.
Another jarring switch. She's by the fridge, speaking intimately as the camera is angled down at her.
"So, let's get our ingredients, ladies," she announces, "now, we can go with lean turkey if we're being mindful or we can go with a classic beef." She reaches inside and takes out a paper packet, "nice and fresh."
The screen pauses on her hands. There's a broken nail among her perfectly manicured hands. You back up and drop your shoulders. You drag your feet to the fridge and pull out the ground beef in the same brownish red paper. The video starts again.
You put the beef on the counter and wait for the next ingredient. One buy one you get everything out. Then you get your tools, bowls, pans, knives. You admire the long silver blade as it slides free of the block.
"It's important," the woman chirps from the screen, "not to play with knives..  you could get hurt."
You look up as she holds up a knife and shakes her head. You frown as she grabs the blade and slides her palms down it, leaving a red sheen on the silver.
"See? Always be safe," she grips the knife by the handle as her blood drips onto the counter. "Lets prepare our veggies first–"
The blip is less than subtle. Her hand is suddenly wrapped in cause thought the drops of blood remain on the cutting board. You put the onion on the wooden surface and dice along with the happy host.
The step-by-step directions keep you occupied enough to ignore the tremor of fear inside you. Your thoughts fade to background as you pull the lid off the breadcrumbs. You work through the recipe mindlessly until you have the meat neatly in the loaf pan.
As you open the oven door, that small voice of logic breaks through. Who are you cooking this for? It's an awful lot of food for just you.
"Now we can work on our sides," the woman sings, "roasted potatoes and charred asparagus."
🖤
You stand before the table. It’s set precisely to the standard set by the woman on the screen. Cutlery, cloth napkins, tall glasses, and a jug of iced lemon water.
The timer counts down and dings. You rush over to hit clear and grab the oven gloves. You take out the pan of meatloaf, then the roast potatoes. You place them carefully on the stove. It smells delicious but your appetite is scant. You’re not very concerned with food at the moment.
You wince as the television flicks on again and the woman holds a spatula and talks to the camera, almost as if she’s talking directly to you.
“Now, it’s time to plate dinner,” she explains, “now I know, it’s just meatloaf, but it doesn’t mean we can’t spruce it up. Let’s begin by slicing the loaf.”
You huff and push your head back. This is a chore. You don’t think you’ve ever put this much effort into a meal.
“We want to make our romantic dinner for two perfect,” she chimes as she sets out two plates, “for our very special someone. The most handsome man…”
She bats her lashes as she gives another tense smile. Forced and frightening. The camera slowly pans in before suddenly pulling back. You blow off the unease and open the cupboard.
You once more follow along with the knock off Julia Child. You get two plates set, the meat placed just so, the potatoes scooped out in delicate measurements, the asparagus lines up neatly. You put each plate on a table mat and take a step back.
So, what next?
Ding dong.
The loud chime makes you jump. You don’t move. You wait and listen until it comes again. The doorbell?
You turn on your heel and pass into the entryway. As you do, the door opens from the other side. Your lips part in shock as Steve steps inside, greeting you with a smile as the security system alerts you to the open door and secures again as he lets it fall shut behind him. You clasp your hands together, questions racing but no words coming.
“Hi, sweetheart,” he smiles, “you look…” his eyes fall to your feet. “Adequate.”
You follow his gaze and curl one foot behind the other. You left the heels off. You suppose that was wrong. Wait, no, this is wrong. What he’s doing is wrong.
“Excuse me?” You scoff.
“Dinner smells good,” he smooths his golden hair.
He wears a crisp white button-up and gray pin-striped slacks. You grimace at him and cross your arms. He comes closer, stopping before you as he reaches to touch your cheek. You wince and lean away from him.
“You shouldn’t scowl. You’ll get wrinkles,” he says.
“Wha– Steve. What is going on?”
He presses his index finger to your lips, “ah ah. I came for dinner. Let’s not chatter and let it get cold.”
You step back and glare at him, “Steve, what are you doing? Please, let me go.”
“Honey, let’s not argue,” he comes close and grabs your upper arms, pulling them apart, “you won’t like how it ends.”
“What? What does that mean?”
“Meatloaf,” he turns his head and looks towards the kitchen, “it’s my favourite.”
You’re upended by his sudden change in topic. It’s frustrating how he just ignores you. You want to know why he’s doing this. How can he even think of something like this. He can’t. Someone will come looking for you.
No one knows where you are. You didn’t tell them.
“Don’t keep me waiting, sweetheart,” he lowers his voice as he leans in, “I’ve waited long enough.”
You look up at him, shaken by his tone. You’ve never heard him sound like that. You feel his grip tighten on you.
“Go get your shoes and we’ll sit down and have a nice dinner.”
“Steve,” you croak.
He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath through his nose. He smirks and lifts his lashes, blue eyes gleaming like crystals, “don’t you remember what I said. How I like order. How things should be in their place. How everyone has their role.”
You scrunch your nose. You remember. It was weird then, now it’s terrifying.
“Yes,” you rasp, “I remember.”
“You don’t want me to be unhappy, do you?” He challenges, his thumbs rubbing your arms.
You shake your head stiffly, ready to wilt beneath his gaze. “No, I don’t.”
“Good girl,” he slides his hands down your arms and slowly retracts his touch, “so, let’s eat.”

Thank you so much for your question! I’m thrilled that you’re still enjoying the story (and that you actually took the time to reread it!)
Lloyd has always been a closed book when it comes to his relationship and personal history. He avoids discussing the past, particularly his time in Europe and the Fitzroy kidnapping, which led to his arrest and catalyzed some very painful changes in his life. Despite doing a lot of inner work, Lloyd is still very uncomfortable with deep introspection and would rather avoid conversations about his past, especially the darker aspects of his time in the intelligence community.
His experiences there, along with a traumatic childhood, have left him with a lot of memories he'd rather forget. He’s not the type to readily share them, especially not with Princess, who would be horrified if she knew the full extent of what he’s been through, and what he’s done. However, that reluctance doesn’t mean that Princess isn’t desperately curious about his past… she just respects him enough that she doesn’t pry.
Your ask inspired me to write a scene where Princess overhears a conversation between Lloyd and Zach and learns a little about Lloyd’s past. Without further ado:

The quiet rumble of the Chevy Tahoe’s engine was a soothing hum in the background as you made the most of the drive home by catching up on sleep. Or at least you were trying to sleep. It was more like a very relaxed half-doze that you’d fallen into, the state between waking and sleeping where everything felt hazy but your mind was still above the surface of sleep, aware and semi-alert.
It was a long drive back from Charlotte and the trip hadn’t fazed Lloyd or Zach, but you were exhausted. You were determined to hit at least one REM cycle, so you kept your eyes closed, trying to lull yourself to sleep. You felt the car shake as Zach passed through a railroad intersection that you remember from the trip down. It’s right before a small picturesque town, which you have to drive across to get to the highway leading north, towards D.C. you almost want to open your eyes and peek at the scenery but if you do, all hope of sleep will be gone. You keep your eyes closed.
There’s a rustle of cotton against leather as Zach turns to check on you.
“Is she still asleep?” he asks in a low voice.
“Has been since we passed through Greensboro. I’ve been keeping an eye on her in the mirror,” Lloyd replies.
“Mmmhh.”
They lapse into silence and you hear the tick of the turn signal as Zach comes to a stop at the light. The only way through town is the main road that goes past the businesses and the city park. Opening your eyes is even more tempting.
The car swings left and you realize that from your seat, the park is on the opposite side of the road. Opening your eyes would basically be pointless. You snuggle deeper into the seat, sighing. Sleep is right around the corner, you can feel it creeping up.
“Would you look at that?” Zach asks.
You don’t open your eyes but they swing towards Zach under closed lids, in an automatic movement.
“That’s a lot of dress,” Zach says, chuckling.
“Especially considering she’ll only wear it once.”
You realize there must be a wedding going on in the park.
“You think the dress is expensive?” Zach asks. “You’ve never seen a bill from a divorce lawyer. And mind you, mine was amicable. I don’t even want to think about what a contentious divorce costs.”
Lloyd grunts. “Especially when there are kids involved.”
You thought you heard something in his tone, a subtle shift that hints of something painful. Zach doesn’t seem to notice.
“True. But marriage isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Look at Bishop—married fifty years and still crazy about his wife. Landon’s happy enough with Ellie. It works for some people.”
“It’s like a lobster trap–easy to get into, hard to get out of.”
“With the wrong person, yes. If you have the right one…”
“You can keep pouring, but I’m not drinking the Kool-Aid,” Lloyd says.
“You make it sound like a death sentence.”
“For some, it might as well be.”
Zach laughs. Lloyd doesn’t.
“There are only a few reasons to get married and none of them apply to me,” Lloyd says.
“Yeah? What are those reasons?”
“Religion, stability for children, and the legal benefits. I’m agnostic, I don’t plan on having kids, and as far as the legal stuff, no one needs those things from me.”
“The legal stuff would be more of a downside in your tax bracket, though,” Zach points out.
“I’m thinking more of retirement benefits, inheritance rights, automatic next of kin, that stuff.”
“Come on, Lloyd,” Zach says. “You’ve dabbled in relationships over the years. Not a lot, I admit. None of them ever made you think, even for a second, that she was the one?”
Lloyd scoffs. “No. Not even for a second.”
The hardness in his voice took you by surprise.
“What about… what was her name? Miranda? You two were serious for a while.”
"Michela," Lloyd says the name as if he’s testing it out. "We both knew the score until she wanted to change things and I wasn’t onboard with that. She told me what she thought of that, and me, before she split.”
Zach considers this for a moment. “You never talk about the women you date. It always made me wonder if there was more going on than you were letting on.”
“Or less,” Lloyd replies.
“Well, that’s harsh.”
“There’s no point in dragging up the past.”
“Mmmhh. Your past is full of regrets, I suppose,” Zach says.
“And yours isn’t?”
“Touché.”
The icy way he spoke of his past relationships shed a tiny ray of light on Lloyd’s highly compartmentalized private life. Your heart aches and you wonder how deep the mental scars from his past truly run. It was impossible not to notice the bitterness underlying his attitude towards marriage. You wished he could see that not all relationships are doomed, but you knew better than to challenge such a deep-set belief. Zach apparently didn’t share your reservations on that subject.
“It’s not all about the past, you know? It’s about what you want for the future. You should think about finding someone who understands you, someone who could share your life–all of it, not just the parts you let them into.”
“That sounds like a recipe for disappointment. I’ll stick with keeping my expectations low, but thanks.”
Tension hangs thick in the air, before Zach relents.
“Alright. Maybe you’ll change your mind someday. Marriage isn’t all bad. When it’s to the right person, it’s actually pretty great.”
There’s a sneer in Lloyd’s tone when he speaks again.
“I didn’t realize you believed in fairy tales, Zach. Marriage brings out the worst in most people. Unless you have a good reason to need one, it’s pointless.”

Flashback
You stare at the detailed brief, scanning over it twice… three times. The mission seemed like an easy feat, one that you felt needed no help on. But you were the newbie, a fresh face is what the director described.
Graduating at the top of your class, excelling is every single test, you were deemed overly qualified for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Your skills were one to envy, with perfect scores on all targets, there was no better shooter than you. Even on your worst day, the best agent couldn’t even get close to you.
It took you a while to be seen by someone who actually respected your qualifications. But it was work unlike you had ever seen.
It didn’t matter the target that you were assigned. If it had a pulse, it wouldn’t be once    Le silencieux came in and did what needed to be done.
News of your abilities circled around until An Agency decided to take you in. Promising you bigger targets with bigger pay. You would kill anyone. Almost.
Children were always off limits…
Something that the agency respected. Seeming as though they had other contractors that would do that side of the dirty work.
You didn’t need anybody to help you. Which was why as you look at the brief one more time, there was a point of contact. A supervisor that would be accompanying you on said mission.
Lloyd Hansen was a household name and when the agency needed effective work, he was the guy to call. That was up until you came along and he got wind of your talents.
If it wasn’t your job in Berlin that alerted him of your prowess, it was definitely your last job or taking out one of the top-paid tycoons on the West Coast of America.
Said to be the most untouchable mogul in the world, you decided to prove that theory otherwise. To the media, the cause of the death was natural causes.
But Lloyd knew better. He looked over the autopsy reports over and over. You left everything pristine and even he would roll his eyes at having to do extra work.
It didn’t take him much asking to be put to watch over you. With a record like yours, you didn’t need a babysitter.
He just wanted to have a front-row seat to just how good you were….
Present Day
Your fingers hit the numbers on the keypad quicker than you’ve ever moved, hearing the access notification. With no time to waste, you motion for Lloyd to enter, smelling the same scent that you knew so well.
As the door closes by your hand alone, silence fills the room. The tension was as loud as ever and you wanted nothing more than to quell the impending elephant in the room.
“Nice office ya got here munchkin,” Lloyd’s voice comes into play as she looks around the modern study.
Professional and well organized to the naked eye and you wanted to keep it that way.
Pleasantries weren’t something that you really had time for. The reason for your disappearance stood before you, that smug smirk on his face as he set his eyes on you.
It was maddening the way one look could annoy all the fibers in your being. He was the only one that could do that.
And nothing had changed from then to now.
Steel is held to your waist, not letting your finger slip from the trigger as you look over at Lloyd, the annoyance already rolling off you.
“You’re not here to talk interior decorating and I don’t have time to talk nice,” you say curtly, your feet planted in the same spot, “Now… What do you want?”
“Isn’t it obvious?”
“Can never tell with you Lloyd. You’re not very good at context clues. Cut the shit.”
Lloyd stares into you, a soft smirk weighing on his lips as he pulls his gun from the holster, automatically making you draw yours.
“Easy there sharp shooter… I come in peace for the moment,” a grin spreading across his face as she sits on the edge of your desk.
You don’t trust him and he knows that by the way your gun is still pointing at him between the eyes.
He sits there on the desk, watching you… studying you even, looking at the slight changes of your compared to years ago.
Still as beautiful as he remembered but more… scared.
Like you finally had something or someone to lose…
If it was one thing you knew: Lloyd Hansen Never puts his gun down. For once, you decided to trust him. Whatever he wanted needed to be said now. No telling when exactly Lili would wake up.
With reluctance, you place your guns in their holsters, making sure you had easy access in case he had any ideas.
“Why are you here?”
“Colibri…”
“Don’t,” you say sharply, your voice not faltering, “You don’t get to call me that…”
A frown sets on his lips, the tick in his jaw evident as he clenches his fist, “You left… without a word. Care to explain that?”
You smirk, deciding to play him at his own game, “Isn’t it obvious?”
“Cute… real cute cupcake,” the deep chuckle coming from his throat, his eyes boring into yours, “You know… I hate broken families,” He starts off, raising from his makeshift seat and walking over to you.
His height towered over you but it didn’t matter. You were the only woman to ever to bring Lloyd Hansen to his knees. A feat that even the most notorious assassin couldn’t even do.
You never budged as he stalked closer, his cologne just barely kissing the insides of your nostrils.
Still bold with a hint of sweetness, just like the scent you got for him, courtesy of your many stays in France.
Lloyd bends just a little to meet your eye level, shamelessly breathing you in as he lets out a low groan, “Still as delicious as I remember… I would hate to have to slowly get my answer from you ma douce and you know I can take my time very well. Start talking.”
If an answer was all he wanted, then that’s what you would give. You had no problem hurting his feelings when he had his hands on Lili. That was his first and only strike.
You let out a steady breath, keeping eye contact with him as you began to speak, “It’s not rocket science. I got pregnant and knew the second that it was real that my old life was done. There was no way that I was going to bring a baby into this mess. She didn’t deserve to have an unhinged father like you,”
Lloyd stayed quiet, waiting for your next words. He knew you were far from finished.
“And I was right… Here you come and kill her nanny, break into her room, and demand answers. Dad of the freaking year.”
“Only two of those are right ma douce..”
He answers while holding up two fingers, his voice void of emotion. The desk becomes his seat again as she swings his leg over the front, staring at you once more.
“I would never kill our daughter’s nanny. She does need looking over after all. Since you think you know what kind of father I am, you would have known that.”
Your eyes begin to soften a bit, bringing fixing them back to how they were, “Never thought I’d see the day that you would have a moral compass. I’m touched,” you say flatly.
“I still don’t Colibri but, I’ll make an exception this time.”
A slow clap fills the room as you begin to mock him, “I should be honored huh? At least you care a little. I’ll give you that much. She’s still my daughter. The only thing you did was deposit a weak sample.”
“My ‘samples’ were what you used to crave at one point in time. You can play coy all you want but we both know the truth ma douce…”
No matter how wrong you wanted him to be, Lloyd was once all you cared about. All you yearned for. You knew deep down he could never love.
You blink away for a second, setting your sights back on him, “You’re right, there was a strong one out of the bunch. Ya did some good in that retrospect.”
“What can I say ma douce, I never disappoint…”
“And yet you’re still here… I told you what you wanted to know. You got what you wanted,” you knew this wasn’t going to be easy.
Lloyd was never easy…
He gives you a knowing look, the tick in his jaw back again as he grew more annoyed.
You needed him out of your house and far away from Liana… She didn’t need him and neither did you.
Without a second thought, you walk around him and sit in your rightful seat, blowing out a slow breath.
“I know you, Lloyd. The minute she would have been of age. You would have taken her and made her into your image. I’ve seen it before…”
There was no proof that Lloyd would have taken Lili down the same road as your father did. But, you weren’t going to take any chances.
You were made into a weapon far before you were even a teenager. Target practice, day in and day out, combat practice when you turned eight.
To say you had a sliver of a childhood would have been a lie. You never even wanted children for that sole purpose alone.
But your surprise child softened you the minute you heard her heart beating.
Loud snapping took you from your thoughts, Lloyd’s face almost touching yours.
“Whatever daddy issues you may have has nothing to do with me. You took time away from me and I’m ready to collect on it.”
“You won’t go near her again”
“Watch me.”
“We both know how this will end, Lloyd. Do you really want to do this?”
Lloyd leans up from you, standing up from the desk, his lips pulled in a thin line, “I’ll give you two options sweets. The easy way or the hard way.”
A chuckle erupts from your lips, stopping just as fast as it started.
“You know I love the hard way Lloyd and if that means putting a bullet through your fucking head, then I will.”
A soft knock interrupts you both as you stand up, only for your face to meet the desk hard as Lloyd crossed over to slam you down.
The soft knocking continues as you begin to struggle, feel the tight grip Lloyd has on your arm.
“Mommy?” a soft muffled voice comes from behind the door, causing your fight reaction to rise. But your strength is no match for the pressure Lloyd has on you.
Cold steel meets your temple, Lloyd’s breath, coasting over your ear, “As I said before… I hate broken families. But I’ll splatter your brains on this desk and make our daughter half an orphan,” you struggle against his hold as he slams you down again, the knocking continuing to ensue.
“Just a minute baby! Mommy’s coming,” your voice shakes, hot tears prickling the corners of your eyes.
The knocking stops, knowing that she’s waiting, you lift your head up a bit to listen to the man keeping you from your baby.
You relax a little eliciting a content sight from Lloyd, “That’s good… compliance is all I asked for. Now, you take your ass to that door so I can meet my daughter. You’ve wasted enough of my time so make it quick,” he spat, releasing you from his hold as you stood up and walk to the door.
As you turn the knob, the fear that you had the day Liana was born came back to you. All the running that you did still wasn’t enough. It was now or never and weren’t going to leave Lili in the hands of just Lloyd.
The door opens and her large stuffed rabbit meets your eyesight before she does. Her eyes are still low, sleep still apparent in her.
“You okay sweetie?” bending down to check the warmth of her forehead, “Still not feeling good?”
Lili shakes her head, hugging her rabbit as she looks behind you, “Mommy? Who’s that?”
The question that you never wanted to answer. But it was staring you right in the face and the last thing that you wanted to do was to lie to her.
The words were lost on your tongue as you know that this choice could make or break the only person in the world that truly loved you.
Your creation wanted answers and you wouldn’t make her wait and let her lose more sleep.
But it wasn’t you that answered the question. You didn’t even know that Lloyd was behind you until you heard a tone that was only ever meant for you.
Softness…
“Hi there Princess Liana… I think it’s time we formally met…”

Oh, I hope you'll like it. Hope things get better. HUGS
We just survived the start of Mercury Retrograde and the full moon. Oy! 💕💕💕
How I Disappeared ~ Preview
Tumblr media
A one-shot I'll be posting in the next couple of days...
Warnings: torture, violence, killing.
The closet door you were cowering behind didn’t do much to muffle the screams of the man they’d been torturing for nearly an hour. There was nothing you could do for whoever they had strapped to the chair in Ransom Drysdale’s posh office.
What the hell is happening?
They’d removed several of the man’s teeth with a rusty pair of pliers as he’d emitted a macabre chorus of pain-filled cries. The last time you dared peer out the slightly opened door, you were horrified to see the car battery. There were jumper cables clamped to the man’s face, burning him until he screamed. You could smell the searing flesh. Those screams become gurgles while he fought hard not to answer the man’s questions.
But eventually, he did answer the questions to make the pain stop.
Your heart raced in your chest. You had to be quiet. It was the only shot you had of getting out of this.
The last peek you took, showed you the poor man’s lead tormentor. A tall, imposing man wearing a polo shirt in shades of mustard and tan. The gray slacks and expensive shoes hinted that he might be someone important. The gold of his pinky ring winked in the light as he moved around the chair, removing the metal clamps from the man’s ruined face.
The tormentor caressed the man’s face with his hand, a gentle gesture.
Whoever he was, you would have found him oddly attractive anywhere else but here. Everything about him from his perfectly trimmed mustache to the precise styling of his hair told you he was methodical, maybe manically so. Now that you could see him, you didn’t move. You stayed right there in the shadows, watching him grin at his tortured victim.
“See? It didn’t have to get this bad, did it?” the man reasoned, leaning down to get on eye level with him. “We all get what we want. I learned what I wanted to know. You now get out of this chair.”
At the subtle motion of his hand, armed men came into view, freeing the man from the chair and hauling him roughly out of it. As the group of them moved out of your view you heard three simple words.
“Make him dead.”
Adrenaline and fear had your body humming as you fought to stay still. Now wasn’t the time to get stupid. All you had to do was sit tight. Wait. Wait until it was quiet, and you didn’t hear anything anywhere around you. And when you were sure you were alone, you’d wait a little longer.
You were going to get out of there.
When the door flew opened, a scream ripped from your throat. You’d made yourself small in the darkness of the coat closet, shaking in mortal terror as you looked up to meet the blue-eyed gaze of the man who appeared to be in charge.
You might have thought his smile was authentic in different circumstances.
“What do we have here?” he asked in a way that led you to believe he had some idea. When he spoke your name, a spike of fear shot through your heart. “Somehow I didn’t think you made it out of the building.”

U.S. OPEN WEEK 🇺🇸
Everything you need to know about the U.S. Open at Winged Foot
Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck is again hosting the U.S. Open championship, which gets underway on Thursday and concludes on Sunday. The event is normally played in June, but had to be postponed and will be contested without spectators.
Here are some of the details that will keep all upcoming conversations about the 120th U.S. Open going:
The host
Winged Foot Golf Club was founded in 1921 by a group of New York Athletic Club members whose goal was to build two exceptional golf courses and host championships. The founders did not skimp. A.W. Tillinghast was commissioned to design the courses. Clifford Wendehack designed the clubhouse.
History is well-preserved inside the iconic gates.
“Winged Foot is one of the greatest clubs on the planet with two incredible courses,” said Gary Player, who tied for eighth in the 1974 U.S. Open.
The club has more than 600 members and recently completed a large-scale capital building and restoration plan.
“It’s clearly a very golf-centric, golf-loving, golf-enthused membership,” said longtime general manager Colin Burns.
This will be the sixth U.S. Open (1929, 1959, 1974, 1984, 2006) contested at Winged Foot, which has also hosted the PGA Championship (1997), U.S. Amateur (1940, 2004), U.S. Senior Open (1980), U.S. Women’s Open (1972, 1957), Walker Cup (1949) and U.S. Amateur Four-Ball (2016).

The West Course
This famed Tillinghast design opened in 1923 and ranks among the most complete and difficult tests of golf in the country. A meticulous restoration by Gil Hanse was completed in 2017. That project was guided by Tillinghast’s original design and brought 22,211 square feet of putting surface back into play.
“It was really hard,” Justin Thomas said to Golfweek following a round with Tiger Woods last month. “I absolutely loved it. … It’s right in front of you. It’s not tricked up.”
A number of subtle changes will provide a different test than 2006. It’s now a 7,477-yard par 70. There are several new tees in place, most notably at No. 10, a par 3 that requires more club at 214 yards, and No. 17, a par 4 that has been stretched to 504 yards. There is a reversal on the front nine with No. 5 now playing as a 502-yard par 4, and No. 9 now playing as a 565-yard par 5.
There will be a few pin locations that were not feasible in 2006, as well.
Geoff Ogilvy won the last U.S. Open played at Winged Foot, back in 2006. (Frank Becerra Jr./The Journal News)
The history
Geoff Ogilvy won by a stroke in 2006, posting a 5-over total of 285. He made clutch pars on the final two holes, including a chip-in on No. 17 while Phil Mickelson (double bogey) Colin Montgomerie (double bogey) and Jim Furyk (bogey) came famously undone on the 72nd hole.
Fuzzy Zoeller carded a record-setting 67 in 1984 to dismiss Greg Norman in an 18-hole playoff after they finished at 4-under. Norman made a 45-foot putt for par on the 72nd hole to get into the playoff.
Hale Irwin played with great patience and survived the Massacre at Winged Foot in 1974, winning the U.S. Open with the high score in relation to par since 1963, 7-over. Forrest Fezler was two shots back. Tom Watson came into the final round with a one-shot advantage, but shot a 79 and tied for fifth place.
Billy Casper one-putted 31 times, holding off Bob Rosburg in 1959 to win by a shot. He three-putted just once during the championship. Ben Hogan was also in the hunt, but a final-round 76 dropped him into a tie for eighth.
Bobby Jones won his third U.S. Open crown in 1929, getting up and down from a greenside bunker to finish with a 6-over total of 296 then defeating Al Espinosa in a 36-hole playoff. He dominated the playoff, carding rounds of 72 and 69 to win by a remarkable 23 strokes.
The trophy
The original two-handled cup was presented at the initial U.S. Open in 1895 and was to be displayed at the winner’s home club. It was destroyed by a 1946 fire at Tam O’Shanter near Chicago following Lloyd Mangrum’s win. A full-scale replica was produced and handed out the following year. That championship trophy was permanently retired to the USGA Golf Museum in 1986 and replaced with another replica that stays in the possession of the winner for a year.

The setup
It was a dry, hot summer, but the last few weeks have been ideal for growing healthy grass and the rough is thriving at Winged Foot.
And the USGA strives for the firm and fast setup.
There will be graduated cuts on some of the holes, but any drive that gets loose or approach that misses left, right or long will likely end up in tangled mess that measures at least 5 inches.
“Well, I think they will learn real quick,” NBC on-course reporter Roger Maltbie said of the players. “They will learn in practice that this rough means something.”
During the restoration, the greens were also rebuilt to USGA specifications and have underground SubAir technology in place, which restores firm and fast conditions following a rain event. All of the bunkers were redone and no longer wash out.
There’s a five-line irrigation system in place, as well, ensuring the rough will thrive even under tree lines.
The field
With traditional qualifying canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 144-man field is comprised entirely of exempt players. Normally, 156 players compete at the U.S. Open, but when the championship was postponed, accommodations had to be made because there are fewer daylight hours in September.
There are two players with Westchester County roots. Brandon Wu is a Korn Ferry Tour player who lived in Scarsdale when he wasn’t at Deerfield Academy or Stanford. Danny Balin is the head professional at Fresh Meadow Country Club and lives in Valhalla.

The purse
It’s yet to be determined, but last year there was $12.5 million up for grabs. The winner got $2.25 million along with a 10-year U.S. Open exemption and invitations to the next five Masters Tournaments, PGA Championships, Open Championships and Players Championships and exempt status on the PGA Tour for the next five seasons.
The smattering of applause
There will some bus and shuttle traffic between Winged Foot and parking lots at Harbor Island and Playland, but the remainder of the hustle and bustle was canceled when the state announced spectators would not allowed inside the gates.
According to the USGA, only 2,000 people will be onsite most days.
The list of essential personnel includes players, caddies, staff, volunteers, security, media and food service workers.
Knowing somebody isn’t going to help, unless it’s a homeowner along the back nine of the West Course with a rooftop deck. Fans can make all kinds of noise, though, on front of their flat screens as NBC provides some 11 hours of coverage a day across its platforms.
The calendar
A lot of behind the scenes maneuvering went into finding a workable date, but everything fell into place when the Open Championship was canceled. The last time the U.S. Open was not contested in June was 1931 at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. The last time the championship was played in September was 1913 at the Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Evolution of Marine Insurance
Around the 13th Century, Lombardy of Northern Italy emerged as a flourishing center for trade. The early practice of Insurance of ships is called marine Insurance and is associated with the merchants of the cities of Lombardy. The Lombard’s also established themselves in London and other cities. When the Germans conquered and devastated the cities of Northern Italy, many of the mercantile families of Lombardy migrated to the more favored and settled countries where they would be more secure and free to practice their trade. Many of them went to London. Wherever they went the Lombard’s took with them the practices of marine Insurance, banking and money lending. The earliest known policy issued in London was inscribed in Italian and was dated 20th Sept. 1547. The policy written in English dated 1555 was known to be on the ship “Santa Crux” from any part of the Isles of India of Calicut to Lisbon.
In contrast to the Jews who demanded very high rates of interest for their loans, the Lombard’s offered low rates. Because of this, they were greatly favored In London. They rapidly became powerful and wealthy. England benefited greatly from the peculiar skills and acumen of the Lombard’s. Policies of marine insurance even today bear the roots of Lombard Influences. The Lombard’s even built a street of business premises with residential accommodation over, which still retains the name of Lombard Street. However, the original structures were all wiped out by the Great Fire of London 1666. The native people of London naturally resented the success of the foreign merchants, As a result, many laws were passed aimed against Lombard’s.
Soon the Lombard’s finding their scope for commercial activities restricted severed their connections and left for other parts.
 MERCHANTS OF HANSA TOWNS
Contemporaneously with the Lombards, marine Insurance was practiced by the merchants of the Hansa towns. It is believed that in a way of understanding, probably informal, the Lombards confined their operations in Europe to the south of Bruges, whilst the Hanse merchants controlled commerce to the north of that city. Hansa merchants first settled in England during the reign of Edward the Confessor, when they were originally known as 'Easterlings, or 'Easterlings'. As in the case of the Lombards, the Hansa merchants also kept themselves distant from the native population. They established themselves in what were almost fortified warehouses and great distributing centers. But at the same time, they contributed substantially towards setting the foundation-stone of Britain's later pre-eminence. In overseas trade, they played a vital role in suppressing piracy. They were relieved from the payment of levies towards combating the pirates who at that time infested the Thames; probably because they undertook operations on their account to repress these.
In case of Lombards, the British merchants did not like the progress of Hansa merchants. The local movement gained momentum and the first ‘Royal Exchange’, a money market was established. Expulsion of the Hanse merchants was mainly a consequence of the jealousy of the Company of Merchant Adventurers. This was an organization set up by English merchants, who by this time had themselves started participating in marine insurance under the reign of Elizabeth I, In A.D. 1578, a decree was passed declaring the privileges of the Hansa merchants are null and void forever. They threatened that unless their privileges were restored, the members of the Company of Merchant Adventurers established in the cities who came under the control of their league would be expelled
Thereupon the temper of Elizabeth was aroused and an order issued for the departure of every Hanse merchant from the shores of England by 28th February 1597
The instigators of the expulsion of these merchants did not desire the destruction of British trade, but merely its transfer into the hands of British traders, and this they achieved. The 'market' for marine insurance was for long thereafter mainly situated at the first Royal Exchange, and there it continued until the rise of Lloyd' Coffee House
 FIRST LAW ON MARINE INSURANCE
The first enactment relating to marine insurance to be placed on the statute book in England became law at the opening of the seventeenth century and was entitled 'An Act touching Policies of Assurances used among Merchants'. A previous statute passed in AD 1532 had required that notices of the sailings of ships should be announced weekly in Lombard Street, but whilst this is of interest in connection with marine insurance, it does not strictly relate thereto. It is also known that a measure was enacted in Scotland in the reign of James I, dated AD 1427, entitled "The Leave to merchants to Sure their Guide's', but "it is not established that it contained any specific reference to marine Insurance, although this is probable. For this reason, it is usual to describe the Elizabethan Act. which was put through Parliament In three readings in the space of eight days in AD 1601 as the first British Statute relating to marine Insurance
The importance of this statute is that it demonstrates how firmly established was marine Insurance by the time of Elizabeth
