When I was a kid, every single thing adults complained kids never do anymore, they were the ones stopping us. Stranger danger, dont play in the street, dont give your contact details to strange kids at the park, dont go out by yourself, well what were we supposed to do?
And because I didnt realise the point of hanging out was the communication and the activity was secondary, and because there was almost nowhere approved for hanging out, I almost never invited a friend over to hang out because what would we do? Where would we exist? How would we spend the time together with some measure of not hanging out with each others entire family? So sometimes we'd sit around a laptop and watch a movie and then the adults would complain we were on screens.
You have to create places and activities for kids and teens if you want them to go places and do activities! Especially if theyre not allowed to wander off anywhere, you need something to build on to entertain yourself and if all you have is computer, phone, maybe books, a word processor, thats what people are gonna do!
Oh PS: Somewhere you can exist without paying is a library and they sometimes have activities. You do need to be fairly quiet and respectful of other patrons. Sometimes there are study rooms you can book, possibly soundproof rooms, which might be q viable place to quietly hang out. Cant play sports but maybe idk do art together maybe some kind of ttrpg might be acceptable? You can also ask the librarians whats acceptable and if they know of places you can hang out, maybe they can start a club for teens around your interests if enough of you want, just ask. Just say hey I waz told youre a community service. My friends and i domt have anywhere to hang out can we make a club and have space here do you know of anything can you help. Just ask! Worst case they say no, nothing lost.
Dude, kids literally want to go outside and do stuff sooooo bad, and I think anyone who says otherwise should stop and take a second to think about why they view the younger generations as unable to separate from technology. Spoiler alert: it's not their fault. There is nowhere to go.
A skatepark recently opened up near my house, and that place is always FILLED to the BRIM with kids on the ramps and hanging out. I'm not even sure how some of them are able to get there, but they must, because I see them every day.
I'm 16 and I don't have a job. The main hangout places for my friend group are the mall and getting ice cream somewhere, which is good and fun, but I don't always want to spend money. Hell, we sometimes meet at the local pharmacy to buy candy and stuff.
Again, kids want to go outside and do stuff, but when everything is either far away or costs money, they don't have much of a choice.
