Life and Living
What does this mean, you might ask? To me, life is what we experience. The things we do, people we meet, places we go. Sometimes it feels connected, while other times it seems that everything is so unrelated and disconnected from out living experience. To me, living is the quality of our life. The bones that make up the meat of life. If you’re living under a bridge, eating a cold can of creamed corn with no other shelter than that bridge, one might ask what kind of life that is. Well I’m not going to go on about living under a bridge, but rather what does it take in your life to be considered living? Do you need a house with 8 different bedrooms on hundreds of acres, or would it make you happy to be in a small house with only one bedroom surrounded by neighbors? Of course there is no wrong answer, and only you can say what it takes for you to live life fully. For me, however, I think it’s a little bit different than most. As I’ve mentioned before, I am a full time RVer. If you’ve never heard that term before, or are unsure of what that means, here it is. I live in a 35 foot, class A motorhome year round. I do not have a house, condo, or apartment to go back to. I live and travel in my motorhome that my girlfriend and I haved named Esmeralda. Well technically she named it Esmeralda, but it suites our home perfectly as it has green trim and paint in certain areas. I have been living in this RV for two and a half years now, going on three years this September.
After the first year of living in the RV, going back to a regular “sticks and bricks” home seems so boring. Not only that, it seems so permanent. The ability to travel almost anywhere and have your home with you has been such an eye opening experience. It has been so freeing and of course a lot of fun. Not that it hasn’t come with its own ups and downs, it most certainly has a lot of each, but it presents different problems that a typical living situation does not. For example, your house will never get a flat tire and leave you stranded on the side of the road. Either way, I’m getting off subject here and away from why I’m writing this.
I’m writing this, because I think we (my girlfriend Mikaela and I) have finally figured out how we want to live, and this RV thing is just a part of it. Scratching the surface really. However, it’s not something that can be easily explained. It will take the help of others, and some serious planning, but we want to live in a travelling community of sorts. We want to buy some land, and build atypical housing structures on this land. We want geodesic dome houses, yurts, tiny homes and things along those lines. On this land, with all of these not so “normal” types of living quarters, we want other people to share this with us. A community where we hold seminars, classes, a garden to feed the people living there and possibly to sell at farmers markets. We want the land to be our main source of income, but it will be a combination of all sorts of things. We want to put up RV pads and have guests stay with us. Rent out our tiny homes and geodomes, perhaps a little bed and breakfast type of thing for the unordinary type of people. I know I’m just rambling on right now, but that is okay. I will eventually write about each in more detail, as we figure more and more out. Like I said, we have some good ideas and are planning out how to execute them. For now, I will leave you with that, but I hope it gives you something to think about. Until next time.
