Daphne hadn’t been exactly paying attention while she was stocking more books onto the shelves when some teenager came in and thought it would be funny to push a whole shelf of books to the floor. When she heard the crash, she instantly glanced up and saw the mess. The small brunette growled as she came down from her ladder and rushed to the door.  

“Don’t ya ever show your bloody faces back here, ya here me?!” she shouted outside as the giggling group of boys ran off. She sighed and went back inside. She knew her shop wasn’t exactly established yet, but it didn’t give them the right to come in and start trouble. She strode over to the fallen shelf where a customer had been observing the mess.

“I need a cuppa after a day like this one.” she muttered as she moved to start pushing the shelf back up.

Mortimer gave a start at the sound of her voice. It took a few seconds for the words to register and the situation to re-register. Tired hazel eyes blinked rapidly a few times. There was a far-off look in his gaze. “I’m sorry.” The words came out too rapidly. Unthinkingly, he tugged at the sleeve of his black, cable-knit sweater which was fitted over a pristine white long-sleeved dress shirt.

“I mean, I didn’t mean to make such a comment-- I... sorry. Here,” He bent down to pick up one of the fallen books. “Please, let me help you.”

omfg I hate posting anything on mobile/my iPad. formatting is fucking impossible. so. I’ll try this, then edit everything I wanted to when I get back home and on my laptop.
