The Caribbean Equality Project wishes to express our deepest and sincerest condolences, to the Nandalall and Bishun families and friends of the dearly departed Samantha Bishun. • Samantha was known as a fierce supporter, advocate, and ally for equality, visibility, justice, and empowerment through education, especially for people who are most impacted by disenfranchisement and discrimination. These attributes made her an excellent source of beautiful friendship and support for our work and the #Caribbean #LGBTQ+ voices we serve in #NYC. Not only was Sam an avid supporter of the LGBTQ Liberation Movement, but she ensured that her family and friends knew about our noble cause. This was made evident by the support we received from her mother, Sandra Nandalall, owner of @elegantfloraldesign (based here in South Ozone Park, Queens). • Words cannot express how truly saddened we are by the untimely passing of such a truly remarkable and inspirational mother, wife, leader and community organizer. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted by Sam’s heavenly transitioned, during this difficult time. We will always remember Sam fondly, and have wonderful memories of the many times spent together during her powerful existence! • Sam is survived by her wonderful husband, Steve Bishun, 3-year-old daughter, Sophia and an abundance of family and friends, who we know will all be a great source of comfort to one another, as we celebrate her life and legacy. • The CEP team is here for all that have been impacted by this sudden and tragic loss. Our 💛's are with you. Rest in Power, Sam. . . . . . . #RIPSamanthaBishun #YellowPower #SamanthaBishun #queens #richmondhill #littleguyana

@CCCADI's latest exhibition 'Liminal Space' brings together artists of Guyanese heritage, who via photography, painting, sculpture, installation, video, textile and mixed-media, bear witness to what drives one from their homeland as well as what keeps one psychically tethered to it. The exhibition speaks to the broader emergence of the Caribbean diaspora in global metropolises. While these artists narrate experiences specific to the Guyanese diaspora, they simultaneously unpack the act of migration as a constant site of engagement and what it means to be an immigrant in our 21st century world. Join @CCCADI this Saturday, June 17th, 2017, from 3pm to 5pm for the opening of 'Liminal Space', the exhibition. The opening will also feature a special screening and Q+A with filmmaker Mason Richards, producer + director of 'The Seawall', and curator of 'Liminal Space', Grace Aneiza Ali.
