Only pretending (or not at all)

Kurt gets an invitation to a New Directions reunion, but he's not sure he wants to go: he's the only one not in a relationship. His roommate Blaine gets an idea - he can pretend to be Kurt's boyfriend for a week!

Kurt is doubtful, because he happens to be in love with his roommate, but he agrees. He can have this one last thing, maybe he'll get to kiss Blaine, and then he will move on from Blaine for good.

My Review: Alright, so Fake dating is one of my all-time favorite tropes, and the fact that this story is friends to lovers as well just takes the cake. But that's just one of the reasons that I love this story. This story is one of my favorites in this category, and I'm going to give you a few of the reasons before you run off to read this.

The first of those reasons is plain and simple. The writing is amazing. This author has an amazing story-telling style. One thing that I love is the ability to build tension. Throughout the entirety of this story, I could feel my own emotions being twisted in knots. I love authors that can make me feel what the characters are feeling, and that's exactly what Little_Escapist did. I think I legitimately shed tears on more than one occasion when I read this the first time, and I know I did at least once on the second read.

I also have to say that I love the plot twists. I've once been told that I was a master at plot twists, but the unexpected twists here caught me completely off guard, and that was after I had read it once. I have to admit that I was screaming at the author on more than one occasion, but since I've committed the same offense on more than one occasion, I guess I'll let it slide. I secretly love it, when it's well done, and it really was.

Ultimately, I have to say that one thing I look for when I read Klaine fics is that Kurt and Blaine are still Kurt and Blaine. There were some differences here (because hey, it's AU, and I'm totally on board with that) but I felt like the essences of both Kurt and Blaine were intact. Kurt was the same sweet man with a big attitude and an even bigger heart, and Blaine was the same adorkable, oblivious sweetheart that he always was in canon. And because they were best friends, they had that amazing connection (as they did in canon) that I absolutely love. It was amazing and agonizing all at the same time.

I can't mention Kurt and Blaine and then not mention the other characters. I especially feel like the author did an amazing job capturing Rachel's and Mercedes' voices. I'm not a huge Rachel fan, but I feel like her character served her purpose here, and left me thoroughly irritated with her, but at the same time grateful. You'll have to read it to figure out why I say this. she's pivotable to the plot even though I, like Kurt, felt like sticking a sock in her mouth.

This is an amazing story for all the reasons mentioned above and so many more, but you won't discover any of those until you just go and read this for yourself. And so, I'll just let you do that.

Matching author names with Tumblr names

I like to rec fics. I do. I read tons and tons of Glee fanfiction (mostly Klaine), and I can’t help but gush over them, because as a fandom, we are SO spoiled. Glee fanfic writers are so talented, and we’re blessed to have them share their stories with us.

But often, I have trouble tagging an author on Tumblr because their Tumblr name differs from their author name on AO3 or Lifejournal or Fanfiction.net or Scarves & Coffee.

Sometimes, it’s as simple as smushing the name together (Twitchy Squirrel = @twitchysquirrel) or adding a number (Flowerfan = @flowerfan2).

In some cases, though, the names aren’t a bit alike, so you just have to KNOW.
