(ETA: The influence of the extraordinary Jim Svejda as critic, analyst and expositor of modern(-ish) music in general and opera in particular, for a generation of NPR listeners, cannot be understated. Listeners over the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s will instantly recognize his effortless, easygoing erudition and his alternately ironic and deeply-affected tones in online episodes of his definitive The Record Shelf and The Opera Box. And for ever so long a while, he was also the voice on KUSC’s The Evening Program. Whenever life was doing what life did, at the end of the day, Jim’s voice was always there to ground you. (You can hear some of his more recent podcast recordings here.)

(I regret now, as for many years, my loss of the late-night LA recording of Jim’s analysis of Ein Heldenleben that contributed so significantly to the end of both The Wounded Sky and Spock’s World. It was, therefore, my great pleasure to shove him onto the Enterprise (if off-stage), and lend him whatever small immortality I could. His retirement earlier this year comes as kind of a shock; he’s the kind of person you think will always be there, doing that thing. ...But he’s still among us, and his presence is something for his successors to live up to. If they can...)  :)

LITTLE SIMZ GREY AREA ALBUM REVIEW

Offence- This instrumental is so goofy but it adds to it's charm, also that flow at the end was godly

Boss- once again, her flow is amazing it reminds me of 90s hip-hop/ like an electronic sound

Selfish- Cleo sol adds a soulful voice(corny, I know) to a very catchy song

Wounds - This is like a slow dance song even though the lyrics definitely are not that.

Venom- I don't know why people hate a song blowing up on tiktok it's more exposure for the artist? Besides that, saying this is like Eminem kinda takes away from the main point of this song and how good it is

101 FM - very wavy beat. I just wish there was more to it. Compared to the experimental vibe of the rest of the album, it's kinda basic but good just basic. I just wish the chorus had a bit more going on

Pressure - I don't know how she made such an emotional and pure song.

Therapy - relatable, not in every way but relatable, also underrated as hell

Sherbet Sunset - how the hell does she make such catchy choruses( is that a word??)

Flowers - The trumpets in the background, catchy chorus, emotional lyrics, banger outro

She - why is there a Japanese exclusive track?? It's good just why??

Overall, it was a very, very, very good album with an amazing intro and outro. I'm bad at wrap ups, and I don't really have any other thoughts. Besides, please listen to itttttttt. Other album recommendations( why is that such a long word) are appreciated.

Ricardo is an 18 year old who was dragged into gang life by his abusive platonic yandere brother Jace (his original name was going to be jason but I realized that there was already a biker oc that was named jason who is a sweetheart)

He gets almost all his looks from his mother but he has his father’s ears, body shape, and shoulder freckles.

He is 5’10

His life had never been the same since his stepfather or “father” married his mom basically becoming full on yandere for her due to the fact he lost his former wife from cancer and the fact that she reminds him so much of her.

The reason his father and Jace are abusive towards him is because they were extremely jealous of Ricardo due to the fact he has the blood of another man in him.

The only reason that he never called for help was because he was blackmailed.

His Brother and Sajik were good friends which lead to him being invited to the gang.

Later on his mom dies due to an accident at the hospital she worked at, leading on Jace and his Father to get attached to Ricardo who was the living breathing piece of her left.

This leads to them giving him curfews, stalking him, and being bipolar as fuck towards him; first they get all nice and cuddly with him then beats him up and calls him an ungrateful little bitch.

They won’t let him move out or call for help.

He was dragged into the gang by his brother, who was seeing it as a bonding and learning experience. (This is of course when William and Duke were still alive)

When Varai was kidnapped and was being tortured, Ricardo was tied up by his brother and was forced to watch while his brother tells him that could have been him if he wasn’t there.

While Varai was still captured, he and Ethan fed and checked his wounds. Also Ricardo made sure to clean him and his clothes as well.

The reason why he is terrified of Sajik was because he always had horrible nightmares about a shadow man that looked similar to him.

He is in a poly relationship with his demon boyfriend Asriel and his girlfriend/boyfriend Angel who is a blind gorgon.

Later on he was finally free from them, they were arrested thanks to the help of Asriel, and he moved in with Asriel and Angel.

However they are planning to kill Asriel and Angel, they are also planning to kidnap him, also the gang is also after him.

Ricardo’s favorite food is Philly cheesesteak and favorite dessert is turtle pie

Keon and Octavia are room mates, at the moment. A former personal training client of his, the two became fast friends a few years back and have been together ever since. Keon is Octavia’s platonic soulmate, and vice versa, so whoever claims their hearts will need to win the other over, too, or it’s off.

Keon is known primarily for being a warm, easy-going presence. He’s quick to laugh or grin and doesn’t seem to get bothered by much of anything, save people trying to touch his hair uninvited. Following a hockey injury that took him out of sports for good, he’s been a personal trainer for a handful of years. He loves working out, particularly going for a run with any dog he can find(his building won’t allow them to have a dog). Dogs also just seem to like Keon, for whatever reason. Cats not so much.

When he’s not training clients, he’s working at the local coffee shop to drum up some extra coin, but also just to get out of the house and meet people. He’s an extraverted introvert, so while he loves spending time by himself, he also enjoys getting out and meeting people. Coming from a big family, he learned early on to appreciate both time alone and time with others.

His last relationship was pretty much a trainwreck from beginning to end, and it burned him a little bit to love in general. Were it not for Octavia’s hounding, love would not be so blind for Keon.

If you recognize the name Octavia Rose, you might be outing yourself as a degenerate. A former adult film star, she dropped from the industry last summer to pursue a career in cosmetology instead. She’d always done her own makeup and managed to get herself a fair bit of simsta fame for her makeup looks - an everyday look for Octavia can be as simple as eyeliner and gloss or a full glamrock troll look complete with outfit. There is no style she won’t try to pull off, no colour too vibrant, no boot or heel too high.

Let it not be said that she’s only a fashionista, though - she met Keon because all those hours playing World of Simcraft weren’t doing her figure any favours. She’s a bonafide ~gamer girl~ and as such has both a thick skin and a pretty goofy, self-deprecating sense of humour about her. 

That, and having your bare chest critiqued on the internet will humble pretty much anyone. 

While she’s generally good-natured these days, life wasn’t always so comfy. She dropped out of school as a teenager and wound up running in more than a few sketchy crowds after leaving the unpleasant conditions of her home life - her name isn’t even Octavia Rose, but one could probably guess that. 

To her, the past is the past and it’s never coming back. She doesn’t think much about those days, nor does she begrudge them; it’s all made her who she is today.
