Campfire Girls (Now just Campfire)- a similar nationwide "scouting" organization founded in 1910, before Girl Scouts in 1912- expanded membership to boys in 1975, and went entirely gender-inclusive in 2001.
Not only is there no reason at all for Girl Scouts not to do the same, they're actually 23 years behind the curve at this point.
And that's without getting into Boy Scouts' transition to the gender-inclusive "Scouts" in 2019, and their organization-wide name change from "Boy Scouts of America" to "Scouting America" in February. Granted the troops themselves are still gender-segregated, which is several steps behind Campfire, but that puts Girl Scouts behind them both.
Girl Scouts has been saying for years now that they're inclusive of all trans people and cis girls, which has been reflected in their policies around who they do and do not include, generally speaking (apparently this has been troop-to-troop and camp-to-camp, though). Girl Scouts prides themselves on being a progressive, feminist, and inclusive organization. It is actually a good thing to call them out on how regressive they are even in comparison to the fucking Boy Scouts.
Also, give Campfire some credit. The camp I grew up at de-gendered every single one of their bathrooms and units in 2020, and has been defending that decision against misogynistic and transphobic parents & alumni ever since, with specific focus on standing up for trans youth. They have a ton of trans leadership, at least in my experience. It blows my mind that people just seem to have forgotten them entirely when Campfire was, like, a household name not that long ago.
Tumblr media
but yeah cis people don't see trans boys as threatening to girls at all
