I just read the most devastating fanfic. And I feel like I need to share it. It's called: "Have Compassion (for who we once were)" by LitaCakes on AO3.

The premise is that Aizawa gives 1-A an assignment to do any sort of presentation on the reasons people become villains. Midoriya pairs up with Bakugo and chooses the theme of quirklessness. Midoriya wants to make sure it sticks so instead of some slides with statistics,

He has him, Bakugo, and Aizawa (mans wasn't happy about that) recreate what middle school was like for Midoriya with a day long acting presentation where they acted out a normal day for them during that time. This fic DESTROYED me. Like when I was reading it even way before it got to the presentation I was trembling. By the time I finished it I had to take an hour long walk to stop me from trembling.

Their goal was to shatter their classmates world view and to show them that villains aren't always just evil people but just broken. To remind them they are human, just hurting. To show how easy it is down a path of villainy.

This fic was IMMENSELY powerful. It had Bakugo face his past actions, has both boys and the readers relive the horrible things Bakugo had done. But with heavy emphasis that he has grown and the two are healing now. It is made incredibly clear that Bakugo is ashamed of what he has done. It was incredibly emotionally hard on him as well, having to show his classmates who he had been and to face his past actions by reacting them on Midoriya- who he sees as a friend again.

Bakugo and Izuku have been my favorite since I first stared BNHA years ago so this fic was very hard on me emotionally not even going to lie. It was so good and I wish I could read it again for the first time!!

The fic explored how far Bakugo and Midoriya have gotten by juxtaposing it with where they started. It gives sweet glances into the bond the two are slowly fixing, and small glimpses into their friendship.

It is a must read! Especially for those who have finished the vigilante arc! I highly recommend it!

i am here once again to show my absolutely unfathomable appreciation for fanfic writers. especially, bakudeku fanfic writers, i swear they’re all so fucking talented and have the utmost incredible ideas.

like how am i supposed to read through all this and be normal about it? or maybe i’m just not normal about bakudeku, but seriously, this was so beautiful.

i’m now trying to cope with my lack of video content of my hero academia with reading an unimaginable amount of fanfiction. let me be.

Izuku liked being able to have some quiet time to himself between classes, before going into a lunchroom full of noisy kids. It brought back so many bad memories of middle school. While Katsuki had come around and after their battle on Ground Beta, they were now proper rivals and even secretly rebuilding their friendship through long nightly (Aizawa approved) sparring matches, he still couldn't stand being in certain situations. Large groups of students was one of those situations.

Once he was packed up and prepared himself for the coming din of a few hundred teenage voices and the smell of a hundred different meals, he made his way into the hallway. Of course, that's where Monday had to fall apart. “Watch where you're going, stupid Deku. How the hell did you even get here?” Izuku's vision blanked white, his body tipping sideways and away from the familiar voice. Nanji Tsukumoto, his second greatest bully right after Katsuki.

“Where the hell have you been!?” Inko Midoriya's voice screeched from down the hall. Izuku had just closed the door behind himself; he hadn't even taken off his shoes yet. “Answer me, child!” After he turned four, his parents never used his name anymore. He was ‘child’ or ‘boy’, never Izuku. It was but one more thing Izuku didn't understand. He knew he had to answer when given a direct order, but it was so hard to force his throat to unclench so he could speak. “I'm… sorry, Okaasan. The teacher requested help cleaning up after school.” He'd learned to lie at a very young age. If he told her he was walking slowly, she'd make him hurt more. It was easier to tell her something he made up in his head, and hope she didn't try to verify the information he gave her. Regardless of the lie, Inko walked over and laid a vicious slap across Izuku's cheek. He barely flinched, keeping his eyes on the ground in between them.
