It was not a moral question to her then. It’s ugly to watch and unbecoming of them to bet on. She’d never liked Festus’ hobby with the dogs. That was something she and Coriolanus had privately agreed on. And yet Festus had been the one to yell at her to feed her tribute. He’d been the one moved when he saw a poor man— boy starving. They’d been teenagers back then. All of them had been boys and girls. Heartless, he’d called her. Clemensia smiles. She grew a heart again, and tore it out all over again for the rebellion.
