"Bit morbid, do you not think?" Peter asks, leaning back against his seat, and looking down towards the table from beneath his lashes. MJ is pretty sure he's looking straight at her but she won't give him the satisfaction of acknowledging him at all.

"What would you prefer?" her father asks, a little too eager to please if Michelle had to guess - which she doesn't, it's all over his face. And Peter knows it.

"Lillies," Peter sighs, twirling a pen between his fingers as if merely answering a question is beneath him.

"No," MJ replies curly before she barely conceals her eye roll when her father clears his throat. Her gaze lands on Peter who is now leaning forwards on the table, smirking at her because he knows she's about to be called out on her attitude and just where are her manners when she's in front of the Duke?

"I am so sorry, Sir," she drawls, her hand against her chest dramatically as she continues. "Please do accept my sincerest apologies for not wanting to be surrounded by flowers I am allergic to."

"Well, how was I supposed to know that?" he asks, looking flustered for the first time since she's known him. He didn't even blush this much when she unknowingly insulted him in the gardens.

"I do not wish to share things about myself with people I can barely tolerate."

"Michelle -" her father admonishes.

"Barely tolerates?" Peter gasps, his eyes wide but she knows he's only doing it for show. He doesn't like her either. "Well, it is a shame the same cannot be said about you, darling. I have no idea what my Aunt saw in you, but I fear it was not at all much. Lillies it is."
