I'm always surprised by the way benson lays down jess' body instead of just dumping it with the rest like i expect him to every time. it's so contrastive to everything he's just done. it makes me think that he didn't really want to kill her, unlike chris and hardy, but that doing so was the easiest way to get her to stop screaming.

and when I think about how he interacts with ms beard when he's putting her into the same situation, he decides to take her with them only because she's proven to be more manageable than Jess was under the circumstances. he doesn't want to kill her either, and he won't have to if she just listens to what he says.

obsessed with the description of benson as this nonentity who sets off red flags whenever he actually speaks and unsettles everyone.

i just think about how when benson tells chris to stop chris goes to move into his face and jess reaches out to grab at him and says, "chris, don't." like you KNOW she thinks benson's fucking crazy and will bite chris's ear off if he pisses him off. or shoot up the place.

i'm a huge fan of the idea that everyone else is unsettled by benson except for randy who thinks benson is a quiet guy who keeps his head down and just likes to listen....................... which is maybe half right, but i think he also doesn't speak much because he just fucking hates everyone there except for randy. like i think he does have shit to say it's just that... why would he say anything to these people who're just a waste of space? like it's pointless and everything's gotta have a point with him.

benson definitely has this obsession with randy and he's got it in his head that randy is so much better than this town and its people—himself included. he enjoys getting to watch him when they're working alone but i also think he does sort of... feel a kind of anger or maybe resentment toward randy when he sees how passive randy is towards whatever chris doles out and how he just goes along with whatever hardy tells him to do even though it's not his fucking job. it reminds him of himself when he was younger and he fucking hates that. it's why he wants to fix him and make him his little project. but he does still like randy anyway—he likes how smart he is and how orderly, how he always does his job the right way and doesn't ask stupid fucking questions, how he says hi to benson and no one else. i think he also feels attracted to randy but doesn't even really think about it. it's not important to him when it'll go nowhere and is, again, ultimately pointless.

so when he gets randy alone and he's got his little project in his hands ready for fixing and the "boyfriend?" question playing back in his mind it's like... he just comes to life. i'm sure they talked more in those few hours than they ever did while working together all year.
