More info about Scarab and Liam's bug lizard kids! Underneath the readmore as per usual :)
Buluzi (Means Lizard again)
One of the winner of the last pole! heheh Buluzi, as mentioned before, loves hanging out with (Bug World) Finn and Jake and ever since they were a grubling, always wanted to adventure with them (Eventually that becomes reality!).
Very easy to be around and has a very laidback personality. Kirzaka also wanted to explore with them and their uncles, but being one of the smallest "runts" of the clutch they decide to go on a different path. Liam made them both the tiny packs, and made little treasure hunts for them in their dimension.
Kirzaka (Yet another word for lizard!)
While Kirzaka changes their mind and doesn't go off adventuring, they instead get invested in recording their various sibling's stories from their antics throughout the multiverse!
Another book worm of the group of Liam's hatchlings, and also often hangs out with Vandu and Cole in the Library that Liam makes for them. Also joins Cole in becoming a Cosmic Archivist.
Once they get interested in a topic they can go on and on about it for hours.
Poe (Based off of Edgar Allan Poe's the Gold Bug heheh)
One of the most artistic of the group of Liam's batch, Poe really loves painting and trying out any form of making art. Keeps to himself a lot of the time, but also occasionally hangs out with any of his other siblings when they're doing arts and crafts too.
Guster and him have a friendly rivalry of seeing who can paint the most- leading to the two of them having lots of their works decorating the Tree Stump house.
Kabu (After just the word beetle heh)
Reaaaaaally loves comedy and comics. Wants to one day either write jokes or be a standup comedian. Specifically hates jokes and pranks that are mean spirited and down right insulting to people.
Makes Liam worry with it, but he's really good at slapstick comedy. Lipan and Merid sometimes helps him come up with jokes. Every now and then has little shows in the Tree Stump house to amuse his siblings and likes cheering them up with it if any of them are feeling down.
Firben (Another word for lizard)
Another one of Liam's hatchlings that started to be more art inclined. Specifically likes making pottery! Most of the dishes Liam and Scarab have in their home are made by Firben.
She wants to be a professional Ceramicist one day. Gets along well with Kheirosiphon (much to Scarab's annoyance) and calls him uncle Sai. Helps that they really like tea too.
Lipan (Another word for centipede)
Has a big fascination with rocks and the like! They want to be a geologist and study all the different kinds of rocks in the multiverse if possible.
Cole and Kirzaka help them out a lot with collecting geologic information.
Has a big rock collection that they proudly display in Scarab's garden and also has a normal ol' rock as a pet rock. They glued googly eyes on it and everything and named it Tumble.
Made a pet rock for each and every one of their siblings and their parents. Scarab keeps his in his suit and Liam has theirs on display in the Tree Stump house's kitchen.

Just One More Page's March Photo Book Challenge
Tumblr media
March 3, 2023 - Intersectional Feminism
This one has been wandering around my TBR since I heard it had a Lipsn Apache asexual main character. There are few YA books about Native Americans and there seem to be even fewer about does who are asexual, so to have one that had both in the main character seemed a good place to start.
That, and a kicking magic system. This book, will unfortunately, probably stay on my TBR for a bit longer. Or I just might change my mind for the March TBR and see where takes me instead.
Have you read Elatsoe? What did you think of it? Would you recommend me adding it to my TBR for this month?

Lipan Apache vs. Other Apache Groups Differences

The Lipan Apache: Guardians of a Unique Cultural Heritage
Imagine standing on the sun-baked plains of Texas, where the horizon stretches endlessly beneath a brilliant azure sky. The air is filled with the scent of sagebrush and wildflowers, and the whispers of history echo through the landscape. Here, in this rugged beauty, the Lipan Apache people have danced, sung, and thrived for centuries, forging a relationship with the land that is as rich as the soil itself. But what makes the Lipan Apache distinct from their Apache brethren—like the Mescalero and the Chihuahua—who also call this vast region home? In exploring the unique cultural and historical identity of the Lipan Apache, we uncover not just differences, but a profound legacy of resilience, adaptability, and spirit.
A Tapestry of Distinction
The Lipan Apache, often seen as the resilient custodians of their cultural heritage, offer a fascinating glimpse into the intricate tapestry of Native American life. While they share a common ancestry with other Apache groups, their traditions, languages, and spiritual beliefs are distinct, shaped by their unique environmental adaptations and historical experiences. To truly appreciate these differences, one must delve into the heart of Lipan Apache culture, where the past intertwines with the present.
An elder once said, "In seeking harmony with nature, we find strength." This worldview encapsulates the Lipan Apache's approach to life—a deep, abiding respect for the land that nurtures them. Their nomadic lifestyle, in contrast to the more settled practices of other Apache tribes, reflects their adaptability to the arid landscapes they inhabit.
Cultural Identity and Practices
From the moment you step into a Lipan Apache gathering, the vibrancy of their culture envelops you. Traditional music fills the air, as men and women in colorful attire come together to celebrate their heritage. Their dances are not just performances; they are prayers, offerings to the spirits of the land and ancestors. The Lipan Apache's social structures emphasize family and clan networks, fostering unity and mutual support that is palpable in their interactions.
One striking characteristic of Lipan Apache culture is their oral tradition. Stories are the lifeblood of their identity, passed down through generations like precious heirlooms. These narratives serve not only as entertainment but also as vehicles of wisdom and history, preserving the lessons of the past while guiding the future. In this way, storytelling becomes a bridge, connecting the Lipan Apache to their ancestors and to each other.
Historical Context: A Journey Through Time
To understand the Lipan Apache fully, one must journey back in time to the arid landscapes of present-day Texas and northern Mexico. Here, the Lipan Apache thrived, developing strategic alliances and trade relationships that set them apart from other Apache groups. Unlike their Mescalero and Chihuahua counterparts, who adapted to their environments in different ways, the Lipan Apache faced unique challenges, particularly due to European contact beginning in the 16th century.
This contact disrupted their traditional ways of life, forcing adaptations that would shape their future. The Lipan Apache navigated these changes with resilience, forging alliances with neighboring tribes and even with Spanish and Mexican governments. This strategic adaptability became a hallmark of their identity, allowing them to survive and thrive despite external pressures.
Distinct Cultural Characteristics
What are the unique characteristics that define the Lipan Apache? For starters, their dialect is heavily influenced by neighboring tribes, a testament to their interactions and collaborations through history. Additionally, their matrilineal social structure offers a distinct perspective on family and lineage, emphasizing the roles of women as central figures in their communities.
Spiritual practices among the Lipan Apache are deeply rooted in their connection to the land. Ceremonies often involve music, dance, and sacred songs, reflecting their respect for nature and the spirit world. This relationship with the environment is characterized by stewardship, contrasting sharply with the ecological practices of other Apache tribes.
A Story of Unity and Diversity
To illustrate the values that underpin Lipan Apache culture, consider the narrative of two characters: Biddy and Best-be-zhik. Biddy, a young Lipan Apache woman, is deeply curious about the customs of her neighboring Apache groups. Best-be-zhik, her wise elder, represents the traditional Lipan Apache beliefs that emphasize respect for diversity and understanding among different tribes.
Through conversations and shared experiences, Biddy learns the importance of unity amid cultural differences. As they journey together through the lush landscapes of their homeland, they encounter various tribes, each with their own customs and traditions. This journey fosters a profound appreciation for the rich tapestry of Apache culture, illustrating how diverse practices can coexist and enrich one another.
Expert Insights and Practical Applications
Anthropologists and historians have long studied the distinct practices of the Lipan Apache, providing valuable insights into their trade practices and social structures. As the Lipan Apache navigated the complexities of their world, they demonstrated remarkable adaptability, forging alliances and maintaining strong family networks that have allowed them to persist through centuries of change.
Understanding these distinctions has practical implications for contemporary society. In an age where cultural preservation is more vital than ever, integrating diverse Apache histories into educational curricula can foster respect and appreciation for indigenous cultures. Community events that celebrate both Lipan and other Apache traditions can promote unity and mutual support, reinforcing the values that have sustained these groups for generations.
Modern Relevance: Lessons for Today
In today’s world, the Lipan Apache's emphasis on adaptability and environmental stewardship resonates profoundly. As we grapple with contemporary challenges—climate change, cultural erosion, and social fragmentation—the wisdom of the Lipan Apache offers a pathway forward. Their practices of sustainable living and community gatherings serve as a reminder of the importance of cultural identity in our rapidly changing society.
Engaging with the Lipan Apache and other Apache groups not only enriches our understanding of Native American cultures but also invites us to reflect on our own relationship with the land and each other. How can we apply ancient wisdom to modern practices that honor both our heritage and the environment?
Conclusion: Weaving a Rich Cultural Tapestry
In exploring the differences among various Apache groups, we uncover a rich cultural tapestry woven from unique histories and environments. The Lipan Apache's distinct identity and practices not only highlight their resilience but also contribute to the larger narrative of the Apache people as a whole.
As we stand on the sun-baked plains of Texas, breathing in the stories of the Lipan Apache, we are reminded of the importance of recognizing and respecting the unique traditions of each Apache group. The journey towards understanding their cultural heritage is not just an academic exercise; it is an invitation to engage with and support Apache communities, preserving their diverse identities for future generations.
So, as you ponder the legacy of the Lipan Apache, consider how their stories can inspire us today. In a world where divisions often overshadow our shared humanity, the lessons of unity, resilience, and respect for diversity can illuminate a path toward a more harmonious future.
