Something sweet for my ears
I just finished listening to the latest Ear biscuits, and I'm still loving the format and the show. I wasn't familiar with Olan Rogers before today, but he sure sounded like on interesting and innovative person. The intro, or can I even call it an intro when it was 15 minutes out of 1:20, was filled with so many hints about Buddy System season 2 that I'm dying to hear more. I loved hearing about how Rhett and Link write the songs (note to self: see if that app is available for android), and I look forward into hearing the reggae song Link wrote. Did anyone else absolutely love the fact that Link was also in Mexico? It was like their friendship is so close that even when they take separate vacations with their wives, they do it as similarly as possible, so they can share the experience. I don't know why that seemed so adorable to me...but it did. It was interesting how Link was trying to pry Olan about things like if his wife is intentionally not showing her face in pictures, or if he puts on a character in his videos. I kind of get he was trying to find out where Olan's boundaries between his public persona and private persona lied. I can only imagine that is an issue R&L deal with every day now that they are as big as they are. Olan seemed reluctant to admit there even was nuch of a difference between his public and private image, while R&L have chosen a different route with their content. I guess both ways have their perks and difficulties. I often wonder if keeping up appearances is good for anyone in the long run - I've been directing myself away from all that recently, and though it does make you more vulnerable, it also makes life easier when you don't have to think about what to tell people about your life all the time. Also, it must be really hard to stay in the happy entertainer character on a bad day, when you just feel like crying. Privacy is something we all need at some points, but like when Link told us about Lily, it must have been a relief for him to open about it. Olan seemed to be quite a bit uncertain about himself, when he said he'd failed with a lot of things, or when he called himself an underdog. To me he sounded like quite a success story. He was basically doing the things he loved, and staying true to himself, and even making enough money to support himself. It sounded pretty amazing to me, and he has every right to feel proud of himself. A very inspiring conversation today - I havent watched the video (or part of it?) yet, because this sounded like the kind of ear biscuit where audio only was even better than video. R&L have very soothing voices. :)
