Back home this weekend after a wonderful August full of adventuring all over Colorado’s myriad mountains, passes, rivers, & highways! If you want some new tunes to soundtrack this sunny September morning, follow the spotify link in my bio! Every few weeks or so I collect my favorite songs/albums that came out out in the last month and make em into a playlist for YOU! This week’s mix is anchored by a glowing new album from Seattle’s @fiona_moonchild called “Sweets of Reason” and two absolutely breathtaking albums from last week. The @indigofaraway masterpiece “Any Shape You Take,” and @ohboyrecords @treburt “You, Yeah, You.” They are all awesome and contain some of my favorite writing this year and will most likely end up on my end of the year favorite albums list! How To Bridge the (social) Distance / A Quarantunes Mix Vol. 3 [will & mads / april 2020]
The third in a series of mixes I made for Friends & Family at the beginning of quarantine/shelter-in-place/stay-at-home last Spring. This one went to my little brother & sister-in-law in Portland, Oregon! Memories from wonderful past Portland trips, homages to Portland’s many bridges, and a few songs/edits that you can’t find on Spotify. You’ll have to skip to about 4:20 in the opening track “The Moon Atomic” to hear the instrumental outro (originally titled “Fragments & Fictions”) that I used as an INTRO to the mix! I remember listening to this one with my little bro, driving home over bridges in the rain, after awesome nights in Portland! The tiny desk version of the Mac Miller song has long been a fav, thanks to Thundercat’s amazing bass. The Relient K song is ripped from a cellphone video my brother filmed when we saw RK & Switchfoot back in 2017 and held up a Black Lives Matter flag. The Love Theme is ripped from youtube, The 1975 is my brother’s favorite band of all time. I have memories of listening to The 75′s “Me,” driving through Utah (or maybe Idaho?) in the dark, windows down, road tripping him to move to Portland. Finally, the mix closes the exact same way as my Mom's Mix, a hopeful Coldplay couplet!

I made an actual physical mix CD for a friend a couple weeks ago for the first time in a long time! It’s getting harder to burn CDs because my old toshiba computer with itunes is getting slow slow and I’m not buying CDs as much anymore anyway. I had fun making the art and gave it to a friend for her 40th bday. Songs were based off of some of our shared favorite bands and a general sense of apocalyptic dread. We did flowers for a different friend’s wedding on new year’s eve so that where the title came from! Well if isn’t time for a new New Music Friday mixtape! It’s a new year, a fresh start, and this 124 song playlist goes all over the place! With all the new songs I’ve loved since the last one (which was back at the end of October so...) and full albums from Jake Xerxes Fussell, Typhoon (their remastered debut!), and FKA twigs (I’m already predicting you’ll see Caprisongs on my end of the favorites list for 2022)! Please Don’t Leave Just Yet... / A Summer’s End Mix (for bethy / 9.21.2021)

My littlest sister reminded me of this mix I made her at the end of last Summer. It was September and I was nearly unemployed, hoping for a few more weeks of glorious Summer. Inspired by our shared favorite Holly Humberstone song “Please Don’t Leave Just Yet,” I begged Summer to stay for a little while longer. I sent it to her on the last day of Summer, before the Fall Equinox on 9/22 and on the morning of 9/21, my music blogger friend Adam posted the picture that I would use for the cover image. The mix leans heavily on some of the themes I developed over a CD’s worth of songs on this mix that I burned and sent my sister during the smoky, wildfire Summer of 2020. I didn’t burn this one to a CD (I’m relying more on Spotify these days) so that allowed me to stretch it out to 58 tracks (tracks 39-46 are ripped exactly from the Smoke & Fire mix!) and I’m sure I will revisit this one next September. Enjoy!
