        Sierra Burgess is a Loser is a romantic comedy directed by Ian Samuels and written by Lindsay Beer. Romantic comedies often are unrealistic in they’re the portrayal of people's action and feelings. Movies like, A Cinderella Story and 10 Things I Hate About You display well known public, impractical events that look to be the cause of modern high expectations. However, Sierra Burgess is a Loser seems to be different from the rest of the films in its category. 

       Shannon Purser, who plays Sierra, is known for her roles in Stranger Things and Riverdale. She represents her characters self-conscious yet quirky personality ideally. Jamey, who is played by Noah Centineo, is his high schools' quarterback but it is revealed that he doesn’t like the way his teammates act. During the film, he is seen spending time with either his deaf younger brother or his two friends who are considered “weird”. Veronica, who is considered the bully in parts of this film, is played by Kristine Froseth, who is best known for her roles in Apostle and Junior. These characters are well thought out and stay true to the personalities they were given while reacting to situations.        The film follows Sierra’s life for a short amount of time, through her experience of talking to Jamey. He is under the impression he is communicating with Veronica because that’s who is number he asked for. However, Veronica thinks he is a loser and ends up giving him Sierras phone number. Sierra refrains from telling him her real identity in fear of him never talking to her again. Essentially, she is cat-fishing him. She decides to go to Veronica for help and in return, Sierra will tutor her. This marks the beginning of their unexpected friendship.        This movie addresses numerous subjects that are frequently talked about in the media. From the moment the film starts, the audience is exposed to Sierra’s insecurities about her weight. The main character is bullied by Veronica at the beginning of the film, this could possibly be the cause of Sierra’s reserved personality. Veronica is the character who terrorized her fellow classmates and has absolutely no filter. Although at the beginning of the film, Veronica is severely loathsome, it is later revealed that her life at home isn’t as great as her life at school.        In today's society, body image is a well-known problem, especially for young girls. Although Sierra’s body image issues aren’t brought up often in the movie, they are an important part in understanding why she does what she does.
