American Woman (Thomas Shelby x American OC) Ch. 37: Hysteria
Masterlist: https://www.tumblr.com/sl-newsie/739551758747090944/american-woman-thomas-shelby-x-american-oc?source=share
The next day Thomas finds me prepping the evening pork chops. Perfect! I can get the ball rolling and get to work-
“Between you and I, you are a peach compared to Linda.”
Um, did not expect that.
“She told me her and Arthur plan to head to California. In your country.”
He looks to me expecting feedback but I honestly don’t know what to say. I’m used to relatives traveling around. Heck, I have cousins in Germany, Ireland, New York, and Michigan. I guess it’s an American thing?
“Thomas, that’s on the complete opposite side of the U.S. I’ve never been. I can’t speak for what it's like.”
Thomas grunts. “That’s not the point. She thinks that taking him away will clear his head.” He pours a whiskey and takes a gulp. “Do you like diamonds?”
Where is he getting this from? “That’s a bit random, don’t you think?”
“Do you?”
I give an annoyed huff and dry my hands, giving his oddball questions my full attention. “Diamonds provide even when men’s love is gone. But the only love I truly need is God’s love.” That doesn’t mean I don’t want to be loved by a man. “On another matter, I’ve been thinking of places to travel for the company. I’m thinking Germany, Romania, and Ireland. Then I’ll move west to New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Maybe even some joints in the South. I’ll make some calls.”
Despite my upbeat focused tone Thomas seems to be distracted. “Yes yes, very good. I need to get going.”
My face falls. “Please tell me it’s not the Russians again.”
“'S not just them. There’s- Never mind. 'S not of your concern.”
He dons his iconic gray cap and before he stands up I dare to put a hand on his shoulder. “Please be careful.”
Thomas gives me a cocky smirk. “Always am, love.”
If he’s meeting with the Russians then it means the duchess won’t be at Arrow House. Now I can visit without her obnoxious comments. I think I’ll stop by tonight after work.
Back in the country! No complaining coworkers, no stuffy air, no judgemental duchesses!
“Hello, Mary!”
She nods respectfully. “Good afternoon, Ms. Steenstra.”
“Verena, please. I’m not one to answer to that or give orders. I’m only here to check on Thomas and Charlie.”
Mary’s friendly smile turns into a concerned frown. “I’m afraid Mr. Shelby has been away. He missed supper.”
Strange. That’s not unusual for him but my mind still conjures up enough worry for any type of trouble he could be getting into. Is he still in his meeting?
“The boy is playing upstairs,” Mary says. “Shall I bring him down?”
“No, that’s alright,” I decline politely. “I’ll go see him.”
“Anything else I can do for you, Verena? Some tea, perhaps?”
This is a refreshing change from Thomas’ usual choices of stern staff. “Thank you, Mary. Nothing else is necessary. Just pretend like I’m not here.”
It’s a nice day for a walk. Maybe Charlie will want to go outside. I open the bedroom door to the sight of Charlie playing with a toy train.
“Hello, Charlie! Remember me?”
He looks up with a blank expression. I guess not. But who can blame him? He probably sees so many different people from the staff.
“Have you gone outside today?” He looks at the window and shakes his head. “Do you want to?” His eyes widen and he nods. “Okay! Let’s go!” I take his little fist and lead him towards the staircase.
Charlie looks up and down the hall. “Daddy?”
The simple question tugs at my heart. “No, Charlie. I’m afraid your daddy isn’t home yet.”
I thought Thomas was looking forward to coming home? The meeting might have run long, but why do I have a dreadful feeling that something’s wrong?
The rest of the afternoon goes by quite nicely. Charlie’s eagerness to explore takes us all around the grounds, all the way from the barn to the meadow. He may be small but his endless amount of energy makes up for it! Sadly it comes to an end when the sun sinks below the hills and we’re forced back inside. Mary brings out small dinner plates for us and then it’s Charlie’s bedtime. I return him to his room where a maid is waiting to dress him for bed.
“N-Night…” he murmurs when I hand him over.
“Goedenacht, Charlie. Sleep tight.”
Thomas still isn’t back yet! As I climb into the hired car I can’t stop thinking about it. Should I call Arthur? Does he know where Thomas was meeting? What if-?
Thud!
Something hits the car and we come to a halt.
“What the blazes…?”
I open the door and step out to see a dark mound on the gravel. But it’s not an animal. It’s a person. In a trenchcoat. It’s- Oh God!
“Thomas!” I gasp and race over to kneel down, grabbing his barely conscious face. “Thomas, what happened? You’re bleeding! You need a doctor-!”
“Home. Take me home.” He sounds so weak!
“Thomas-”
“Now!” He tries to yell but ends up coughing. “Please.”
I was right! I was right! Something is wrong! Did the Russians do this? If he’s too stubborn to avoid the hospital then I’ll arrange for one myself! I bark at the driver to help me carry Thomas to the backseat. He’s almost entirely limp! What happened to him?
The car speeds up to the house and Mary nearly faints when she sees the bloody mess. A few more footmen help to carry Thomas inside and up to his bedroom. I feel completely out of place for being in his private quarters but the snap of adrenaline pushes it aside. Mary asks for someone to call a doctor but Thomas still refuses, sending everyone out but me.
“You look awful,” I fuss and try to dab up the blood on his face with my handkerchief. “Will I get an explanation?”
Thomas squints in pain. “I can’t. You can go-”
“No. You’re beaten. You’re bent over. You’re sick, for Lord’s sake. I’m not leaving even with a gun to my head,” I declare and keep examining him for external wounds. “What did they do…?”
“Charlie!” Thomas gasps. “Where’s Charlie?”
He tries to get up too quickly and I have to get him to sit again. “He’s asleep in his room. I was just with him-”
“T-To visit?”
“Yes. I thought you wouldn’t mind-”
“Thank you!” Thomas leans back and closes his eyes. “Thank you… He’s safe.”
“But are you?” My small voice nearly breaks from worry.
He lets out a deep breath. “I don’t need sympathy.”
I’m so close. So close to breaking down and confessing. I love you, Thomas! If you die then I don’t know what I’ll do! I can’t stand seeing you like this!
“You need help,” I say softly. “Please, let me help. Tell me who did this.”
But it’s no use. I already know he won’t risk telling me too much. Damn it, Thomas! You’re going to get yourself killed!
“Watch over Charlie,” he murmurs distantly.
“The people who did this… Do they want something? Are you going to give in?”
Thomas’ eyes open and flash with anger. If he was stronger he’d probably punch the bedside table. “I have to. I fucking have to. Tomorrow there’s a lunch meeting...”
I want to ask more but Thomas finally passes out. Is it from exhaustion or a medical issue? How am I supposed to stop worrying without consulting a doctor? Even if I called Polly there’s no way to keep Thomas from going to that meeting tomorrow.
The entire night I toss and turn in the guest bed. I don’t even know if I’ve slept at all until I open my eyes and see it’s already 10:00. Thomas!
I hastily throw on fresh clothes and run to Thomas’ room. Not here. I run to Charlie’s room. Not here! Lord, where are they? I sprint down the stairs and gasp in relief when I see the young Shelby playing in the parlor. An even bigger relief is when Thomas’ voice comes from his office. He’s on the phone. God, I hope he’s finally telling the others what’s going on!
“Your place. 10 p.m.” He sets down the receiver and slumps over.
“Thomas!”
I hurry over and kneel down to look at him. His condition is far from better than last night. Those blue eyes have lost their sharpness and he looks exhausted despite having slept all night.
“Thomas, you need. A. Doctor!” I annunciate. “If you don’t get proper help you’re going to make me go over your head!”
His eyes lazily lift up to look at the clock. “Fuck. The meeting’s in an hour. I gotta go.”
I stare in awe as he stumbles over to put his coat on. “Are you serious? Is this meeting worth your own life?”
“YES!” Thomas yells with as much rage he can muster. “Please stay with Charlie. Please! They can’t- Can’t…”
“Charlie? Is that what this is about? Someone’s threatening him? And they hurt you.” My voice darkens. “I’ll kill ‘em!”
“No!” Thomas stops me from following him. “No. Just stay here! Mary, do not let Ms. Steenstra leave the grounds.”
The maid looks between us like he just asked her to juggle. “But she-”
Too late. Thomas walks out the door with as much grace as a baby deer. Mary and I look at each other with the same thought. Charlie just lost his mother. He shouldn’t lose his father too. However Mary’s loyalty is still tough enough to abide by his orders.
“You heard him, Ms. Steenstra. I’m afraid you cannot leave. If Mr. Shelby says so it must be for your best safety.”
My safety? My safety? Thomas looked like he’s about to literally slump over! But I have no choice. For the whole day I’m stuck here. Every time I try to sneak to a door there’s always a maid guarding it. Strange. I don’t see any men. It’s no use anyway. I’m being kept away with Charlie in Thomas’ castle. By the time night falls I can’t stop pacing the echoing halls.
“Ms. Steenstra! Telephone for you!”
Finally! I bolt to the phone and pick up the receiver. “Hello? Thomas?”
“Verena!” Ada’s rushed voice shouts. “You need to go to the hospital. Now!”
My stomach drops. “Wha-?”
“It’s Tommy! He’s passed out! I drove him to the hospital and he’s in surgery.”
The phone almost slips from my shaking hand. “Christ! I- I’ll get there as soon as I can!”
I slam the phone down and all but crash through the door despite Mary’s protests. Outside there’s a driver leaning against the garage.
“Which of these cars is the fastest?” I pant.
“Well that depends on the terrain, the weather-”
“Which of these fucking cars will get me to the fucking hospital the fastest?!” He stares in fear at my wild eyes. “Fine. I’ll do it myself!”
I shove him away and jump into the first car I see. The engine purrs to life and in a split second of putting the car into drive I floor it. As I swerve through the dark country roads all I can do is pray Thomas makes it through the night.
The second the car enters the hospital parking lot I jump out and head straight to the front desk.
“‘M- ‘M here for Thomas Shelby!”
The startled secretary tries to respond. “F-Family members only-”
“Tell where the fuck he is!” I order.
“Verena!” Thank God for Ada! “He’s this way!”
I sprint after her and follow her to a patient room. This place looks like somewhere straight from a child’s nightmares. Dreary gray walls, shadowy hallways, the stench of blood and vomit. How is this supposed to be an environment of healing? Ada opens the door and inside lies the beaten man himself. There’s a metal contraption keeping his head straight. He’s only wearing underwear and a thin blanket. There aren’t any bad flesh wounds aside from a few bruises but his pale skin looks like he’s courting death. A shaved patch of hair reveals fresh stitches on his skull.
“Oh Thomas…” I nearly sob and drop to the floor.
“He’s sleeping now. Doctor says he’ll need some time to recover-”
“He’s alive!” I gasp. “That’s all I care about. Thank God!”
I collect my emotions and stand up, walking over to look down at his injured face. In a brief second his blue eyes flutter and his hand reaches up. He must be dreaming.
“Shh, shh. You can rest, Thomas. Charlie’s safe. We’re all safe.”
He lowers his hand and lets out a gentle sigh. Ada comes up behind me and leads me to a waiting chair.
“The doctor prescribed opium and morphine for the pain. I don’t know how much longer he’ll be asleep-”
“I don’t care. I’ll wait a year if I have to. Charlie is safe and now it’s time for Thomas to rest. I’ll strap him to the bed if I have to!”
“Whoa, whoa.” Ada gently grips my shoulders. “I know you’re worried about the love of your life but your hysteria is only going to make things worse.”
My jaw drops. “He is not-!”
“Shut it! Don’t kid yourself. You broke countless speeding laws to get here and were practically sobbing when you walked in. I know you’ll watch over him and that’s why I’m leaving you in charge.”
Ada gives me a quick pat on the back and goes for the door. Me in charge? I’m not family. But I’ll guard Thomas’ life with my own.
I pull out my pistol and set it on my lap. If anyone tries to harm him here they’ll leave in a body bag. Despite Thomas’ flaws there’s still so much of him that shows he deserves to live.

Five times we see Eva and Tommy during the pandemic
For @cillmequick/ @alex-in-the-wildeness 's celebration.
I hope i got the theme right
Btw: Tommy and Eva are in their 30s, Tommy is already an Mp, Mosley is his right wing nemesis and the names of their constituencies are the current names they have now.
Also #2 is smut(oral fem receiving) and the last one includes some description of Eva in labor
Not friendly towards right wing people or fans of the royal family
Gif by @valyriansorrows
1
“Who keeps texting you this late?” He asks after the sound of stifled laughter and Eva’s texting woke him up again.
“Izzy, he’s stuck in quarantine with his really weird hook-up. Apparently, Flavio the gigolo had covid and didn’t tell him.” She answered. “Its noon over there, I’ll just send him one last text and I’ll let you sleep, babe.”
And just as Eva put her phone back on the nightstand, Tommy’s phone buzzed with a text message.
“Finn again?” Eva asked as he scowled at his iPhone.
“No, Arthur. Linda made him take one of those at home covid tests and he can’t tell if it’s positive or negative.” Tommy shows her the picture with a positive covid test.
“Fuck. Do you want to do your test right now or tomorrow morning?” Eva groans as she gets up to find their stash of at home tests in the medicine cabinet.
2
“If I have to wear a mask while giving birth, he can wear one during work.” Esme vents to her as Eva tries her best to keep herself quiet.
Working from home was amazing. Usually, she and Tommy were done way earlier or he clocked out early to bother her while she was going over things with Esme who’s going on maternity leave for the next three months.
Too bad this meeting couldn’t be rescheduled.
Too bad that Tommy is bored and horny enough to get under her desk and eat her out like a man starved.
Her husband and business partner was insatiable, but there are moments when she did want to complain about it.
Like now that she’s biting her lip while one hand keeps Tommy’s head between her legs and the other hovers over the mute icon on her Zoom call.
If only he wasn’t so good with his tongue. So good she’s forgotten half the shit Esme’s told her, so good she can’t think of anything else.
“Can I call you back?” Eva interrupts her sister-in-law just as her grip on the fountain pen tightens and he gets her to the good part.
“Really, Tommy, I thought you said sex during work hours was against company policy.” Esme teased her as Eva frantically searched for the end meeting button.
3
Fifteen minutes.
Fifteen minutes while people gawk at the representative of Birmingham Hall Green and his newly wedded wife after getting the second dose of the vaccine.
This had boosted vaccine rates and gave them an excuse to stoke the fires of Tommy’s little rivalry with the Tory MP from Warley.
Oswald Mosley wasn’t even from there; he was only representing Warley because he couldn’t even get Harrow West with his wife’s connections. But that hadn’t stopped the conservatives from voting him in, nor did it stop him from declaring Tommy his nemesis.
Wasn’t Tommy’s fault he was just better at everything, or that the media dubbed her husband sexiest mp since he was elected two years ago.
“I bet Mosley is bitching about getting the vaccine.” She says quietly as they wait for the giant cartoon clock projected on a gymnasium wall to ring.
“Oh, he is. Says it’s against his will and that he wants his people to pray for him as he is forced to go against his beliefs.” Tommy rolled his eyes and showed her the tweet he was reading on his phone.
“Do you still want me to tag you on the selfie I just posted?” She asked him.
4
“How much longer?” Tommy asked as they watched BBC One go over the mass resignations happening because Boris Johnson refused to step down.
Thomas Shelby MP OBE had made the popcorn and taken out a few beers to watch the shitshow unfold on national television.
“Maybe six hours, cards said July 7th. Is that Mosley’s name on the list?” Eva asked as they read the names listed as the Tory politician’s resignations came flying in.
“Yep, keeps asking me to do the same. Had to block him just to make him shut up.” He is giddy, like Katie and Finn are whenever they get Tommy to go against John on Mario Kart.
Eva wonders if she should tell him she’s seen the Queen’s death on the cards.
5
“That’s fucking impossible, I have an IUD.” Eva reminds Polly who swears Eva is pregnant.
“Congratulations, kid, you’re the one percent who has their implant fail. Baby boy, September 11, 2022.” Polly Gray-Gold said with a smile.
“Oh great, my baby is going to share his birthday with the Queen’s death date.” Eva pouted.
The Shelbys were antimonarchists, Tommy’s grandparents were Irish Travellers who settled in Birmingham, his father married an Irish Traveller with a Romani mother and both instilled good values and a normal amount of hatred for the monarchy.
Tommy couldn’t wait to open the aged whiskey his grandparents wanted them to open when Elizabeth II finally kicked the bucket.
“Gives us a good excuse to celebrate it then.” Polly reminded her.
“There’s no way I’m letting our son share a name with the king.” He says as he drives her to the hospital.
“Gabriel Henry it is.” Eva breathed through the contractions. “Can you drive faster?”
“I’m doing all I can, love, we’re almost there.” He tries to use his free hand to hold hers and she smacks it away.
“Fuucckk.” She groans as she feels her water break. Its not like the movies, feels like she just pissed herself on the spanking new red Cayenne. “I think he’s coming.”
On September 8, at 3:10 pm, Gabriel Henry is born just as the Queen of England breathes her last.
“We’re almost there, Evie, see the light’s even green.” He is grinning, she is in agony and he’s grinning like the cat that ate the canary.

Can I ask for multiple character break downs?👀
Well if I can, then would you please do one for Ada and one for Tommy and one for John
But if only one has to be done, then you can choose any one of these.
Thanks! <3
Thanks for the ask! 💞
Ada Thorne nee Shelby
How I feel about this character
Just love for her! She is adorable, strong, fierce, absolutely amazing! Ada and Polly are the best developed female character on the show. Mainly, because Tommy can’t fuck them, so they can’t be reduced to his love interest, which is such a good thing, because I love strong women. Makes me weak in my knees.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
Freddie Thorne, Ben Younger, Jessie Eden, because Ada is bi, she just gives off that vibe, u know.
Somehow I prefer to read stuff with a female reader for her, more than a male reader for her. Because it’s either Freddie x Ada for me or Ada x female reader.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Lizzie, Polly, Ada and Linda are an amazing combination! She and Tommy have an interesting dynamic as well! I would have loved to see more John and Ada interactions, because they have not such a big age gap inbetween, so I think they are close. Especially after Ada got her child and John got married with Esme. Oh, Ada and Esme would have sooo much fun together. Esme would be like the sister Ada never had.
My unpopular opinion about this character
I think her character changed a lot between season 1 and 2, because of Freddie’s death and also after she joined the business again. Sometimes when I make memes or the alignment charts, I have two icons for her, one from first season and one from third season, because I think she is one of the characters who changed the most through the series. First season Ada would do a lot of things different and more naive than third season Ada. Mainly, because she still believed in communism in season 1 and she somehow lost her faith after losing Freddie. Which is super understandable tho.
She acutally becomes wiser with age... unlike her brothers, who just do the same shit over and over again.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
I wished Ben hadn’t died, because they kill her lovers even fast than Tommys. WTF, right?
On the other hand I wished Ada talked some sense into Jessie, to NOT SLEEP WITH TOMMY THE WHORE SHELBY! Because Ada knows her brother very well and I think she genuinely liked Jessie, or she liked her enough to save her from the pain of being Tommy’s toy or pleasure doll.
And I’m still bitter about the way they killed of Freddie... but more about that later...
Tommy Shelby
How I feel about this character
Relationship status: It’s complicated!
Yes, well, I ramble about Tommy’s shit a lot. I know! He is still an intersting character and it’s so tempting to think about his actions in certain situations, but if I would meet him as a person- I would hate him from the bottom of my heart! <3
He is such an asshole all the time and when I first watched the show, I forgave him a lot he did to his siblings, because I was caught up with his good looks and the presentation of him being the good guy who does bad things to survive. But I spend some time to think about his actions and I noticed, he is an awful human being... to Polly, to his siblings, to his lover and actually to everyone. He might think he does all those mean things to archive a bigger goal, but he is just a gambling addict who can’t stop taking risks he isn’t even prepared for.
Shitty things Tommy has done over time:
Forcing his brother to marry somebody, John didn’t even know at that time, to end a feud, Tommy had started himself and only when it was in his favour to end it, he used John as pawn, so he could archive his plan. HOW FUCKED UP WAS THAT? Nobody seems to talk about this. It was fucking awful! And the way he did it was horrible to! Tommy said nothing to John until the very last moment, when they were already surrounded by enemies, so John couldn’t said no. It also shows, that Tommy thinks he is above his siblings. Tommy thought John wasn’t capable of chosing a wife for himself, so Tommy did that for him too. Even when John didn’t ask for this at all!
Destroying Ada’s relationship with Freddie and chasing his best friend out of town, just because... TOMMY WAS AGAINGST HIS SISTER HAVING A RELATIONSHIP. and yet he proclaimes to listen to woman and to give them a fair change. Maybe just not for our dear Ada!
Destroying Arthur’s marriage, because he kept dragging Arthur into shit, he wasn’t mentally stable enough for. Putting thoughts of rejecting Linda into Arthur’s head, by talking bad about Linda and making jokes about her any given time.
Sleeping with Lizzie over and over again, even when he knew she loved him and when she tried to get over him by dating someone new, he made the order to burn down the pub of Angel, humilated his family, and have him killed later.
Sleeping with Jessie, so he could use her
Humiliate Polly, when she was at her lowest, after Rueben had left her
Drag Michael into the illegal business after Polly begged him not to
Dragging Finn into all this shit after John died, because John wasn’t avaiable anymore
Calling Grace a whore, when they first met
Paying Lizzie in his head, even after she stopped being a sex worker
Helping a fascist
I could go on for a while, but you see my point here!
All the people I ship romantically with this character
Nobody! I want to see him miserable and alone! Honestly I’m never going to read all these soft!Tommy fics or whatever, because they really don’t interest me. I don’t want to see him happy.
But go have fun people and write and read whatever you want!
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Tommy and Lizzie, because they have a sexual relationship, which is not based on romance and I love this sad and depressing dynamic between them. It’s so interesting to write and read about.
Tommy and Ada are great in the show. I love their talks and Ada actually points out when Tommy is acting like a douche again.
My unpopular opinion about this character
I have a lot... where should I start?
I get so annoyed, when I see Tommy shown as a twink, because the actor is just 1,70m... which is not small to me. I know a lot of men around that height and I think they are average and not small. Also a lot of men feel bad for not being tall enough, because everywhere in our society it’s normal to have a tall man and a small woman. And the way tall man or small man are sexualized in this alpha/omega thing or in a top/bottom dynamic is so... meh. It’s really uncomfortable to see how people try to push the patriarchal man-woman dynamic into same-sex relationships.
Tommy is a class traitor and a horrible husband.
Man, I could rant for hours, but I stop right here. Just remember, please don’t feel attacked, I don’t mean to attack you. Even if you write or draw... whatever with Tommy, I would never say something bad about this. Enjoy creating Tommy content, I will love to ignore it!
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
I was so disappointed when they killed Freddie, because those two could have had an interesting and compelling relationship. Freddie could have been a great frenemie. I put this here and on on Ada, because their marriage wouldn’t changed the plot as much as Freddies and Tommys friendship. Tommy would have been a way better person, if Freddie was around.
John Shelby
How I feel about this character
MY HUSBAND! I love him and he has never done anything wrong in his life.
Nah, John has many faults, but I still adore him as a character, because his faults are actually making the plot more interesting. I also read, that he and Tommy fight a lot, because John is more moral and has way more integrity than his older brother. It was just hinted in the show, but I love this side fact and I will base my whole characterisation this.
I love to write, draw and read stuff with him. He is my favorite character from Peaky blinders and my love will never die, even though he did.
Funny tho, when I first watched PB, I adored Tommy and was annoyed by John, but as I rewatched it I changed my mind about those two.
He had so much potential and I would spend all my money, which is not much, but the devotions counts, to see a spin-off with just John and his army of children.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
Esme, because they are sooo cute together!
My OFC, because I love writing them.
Any reader, because I’m a sucker for John.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
All kinds of interactions with other characters and John are great! My favorite is John and Ada to be honest. But here are other dynamics I adore as well:
John & Polly, (she would help him a lot with the kids)
John & Arthur (they come to the garrison to drink and play cards, they talk a lot about their problems, deep bond here)
John & Tommy (in my head they are always fighting)
John & Lizzie, because they have a great friendship, and they helped each other a lot. She spend time with the kids and he gave her financial support, so she would quit her job, which she didn’t do, because she feared being all alone again, and she has trust issues) (I’m actually writing a fic about these two)
John & his kids (I’m soft for dad!John)
John & Michael (especially in season three, because John seems to be jealous of Michael)
My unpopular opinion about this character
John is not completely stupid. Well, he is certainly not smart, but he works in the betting shop, and Arthur does not, or not really, because Arthur is bad at math... John at least knows his numbers. And also Tommy chose him to be the legal bookie over the others, so John must do a good job there. He just never got a degree or something similar like Michael. Which is also a reason, why John seems to be bitter about Michael joining the business. Michael was put in a higher position than he did.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
This one is obvious... John should have survived.

The psychic - Tommy Shelby
“Tommy trusts a psychic, and discovers a lie he’s been told”.
warnings: none, mentions about death, dead people, hell and Lucifer
word count: 1k~
requests are open!
masterlist
"A what?!"
The entire Shelby family screamed. Polly, Michael, Arthur, John, Ada, and Finn stared at Thomas in astonishment. He just smoked on his cigarette, exhaled calmly, and cleared his throat.
“A psychic,” replied the calm one, “the woman stopped me in the street. She gave me details of Grace that were private to her. He told me numbers that made sense. Not just Grace."
He smoked from his cigarette and Aunt Polly pressed her lips together. Polly hated Grace. While Grace was dead, and Polly was sad for her nephew, she couldn't help but be delighted to learn that the traitor had been killed.
“She gave me exact numbers. Do you remember, Arthur, how much we made with Monaghan Boy? " asked Tommy, calm as always.
"Well ..." thought the older Shelby. His recent fight with Linda did not favor his memory.
"Oh bloody hell, Arthur," Polly sighed "twelve thousand pounds, Thomas."
“No” he said “We made everyone believe that. The whole damn town of Small Heath thought we had won that, Pol. We made nearly twenty-five thousand, and no one ever knew. "
Twenty-five thousand pounds.
Finn's heart skipped a beat, as Ada pursed her lips thinking about how that money could have helped all the children who had been left without a father after the fateful war.
John smiled as he lifted his glass of scotch from the table in the house on Watery Lane.
“The girl didn't just tell me twenty-four, Pol. She told me twenty-four thousand two hundred and seventy. The fucking woman has something. So I asked her to come.”
Tommy forced a small smile as he drank his second glass of whiskey of the day.
"And what will she do?" Ada asked between sarcastic laughs "Tell us when we will get married? Or when will we die?”
"We will die sooner rather than later, that's for sure, if we continue to trust street people, Tommy ..." said Arthur.
————
(Y / N) was a strange woman, of that there was no doubt.
The entire Shelby clan was watching her carefully, trying to understand what she was doing with her candles, her incenses and her soft song.
"Very good," she said, "sorry for spending so long with this thing," she pointed to some dry leaves, which were smoking, "but the smell of crime here will only attract the damn satan."
Michael looked at her like a scared wet cat, while Finn and John secretly admired how much mystery could go into such a beautiful girl. (Y / N) took some cards out of her little handbag.
Polly stopped breathing: the tarot. The last time the letters had been read to her, she had been told that her daughter was dead.
"Will we play poker o’ what?" Arthur asked in a condescending and sarcastic way. The young woman began to move her hands, shuffling carefully and without looking at the cards, since she had her black eyes traveling through those iconic blue Shelby eyes, which they all had. Her lips whispered a mantra, almost mesmerizing. Shedrew seven cards.
One for each Shelby and Gray present.
The lovers, the tower, 9 of swords, the five of swords upside down, the sun, the empress and the devil upside down.
"Good," the girl smiled, "let's get started." He took the letter from Lovers, and looked at Shelby with the mustache. “Your name is after your father, but you have someone, Arthur. A grandfather a certain..."she began to think “My ... my ... Mikael? " the name came out dubious. "Maybe it's Michael, but he was Russian, right?"
Polly choked on her tea, starting to cough. Michael gently rubbed her back.
"Funny you are choking, Pollyana" (Y/N) whispered, Polly looked dead into her eyes. "Mikael is taking care of your daughter, Rosie Jane, isn't he? You know it, you know it's him because of the way she raises her arms and smiles: it reminds you of you.”
Arthur was about to cry, his heart was pounding. But he wasn't going to accept it, ever.
"But ..." she whispered, "you will have to make a decision" she said calmly, drawing another card, the two of spades "And it will be difficult."
"Fookin’ ‘ell," Arthur blurted out, then made his whiskey white.
The young woman shifted her eyes to Ada, raising the nine of swords.
"Karl doesn’t let you sleep, does he?" She asked playfully.
Ada laughed sadly.
“He ..." she sighed.
"He's sick," the psychic released. Ada's lip trembled. “He has had a fever for days and it does not go down. Take him to the river, make his body achieve a balance. Put his legs in the water, after he should nap on a bed of hay. And please, don't give the poor kid any more cow's milk, he's intolerant. And I know you can't handle Freddie's gas, so why would you have to tolerate Karl’s?”
The Shelby family bursted into laughter, making fun of their poor sister. With a smile on her face, the girl took the next card. The five of swords, reversed.
“John Michael Shelby" the boy's name left her lips with a somewhat pessimistic sigh. The psychic looked Shelby in the eye "You have signed your death warrant, John. Go far away, where they won't find you. A Luke is looking for you and will not rest until a bullet, with your name in another language, is between your eyes.”
John's eyes said it all: he was scared.
A cold sweat ran down her spine as her jaw clenched.
"America?" he asked, trying to sound calm. The girl's eyes darted around the house, what the hell was she doing? His eyes returned to John.
“No, he comes from there, but he comes from here too."
"England?"
"Europe." the woman sentenced.
With a sigh, his eyes went to the red-haired one.
"Hi Finn," she smiled, "or should I say ... congratulations?" she asked.
"What the hell do you mean by that?" he asked confused. Or at least pretending.
"What is her name? Charlize? Charlotte? Charlie? " she asked.
Finn paled.
"Then yes?" Finn asked.
"Yes." she blurted out. Finn, in less than two seconds, was on his way to his girlfriend's.
"Well, Polly," the girl smiled, "you're on the right side of life. And everything you hear...is true. Don't you hear it, Polly? The names, the dates...they are crying out for you, Pol, to help them. Is there a soldier...Mark? " she asks.
“So...she isn’t crazy then?" John asked, laughing curiously.
"Your mother says you are an idiot and you have the head of a cucumber" said the psychic.
This time it was Polly who burst out laughing, that insult was typical of her sister.
"Hello Michael." she said, as she grabbed the devil's card “Please free yourself from your past. I know it costs you, but go and exploit that water-thing that you hate so much. You are thinking about it so damn much that you are making me sick." Michael smiled scared and embarrassed. “Your foster mother's father, your grandfather Joe, will distract the guard that night. He also wanted to exploit that 'fucking wishful shit.'”
Michael smiled and laughed wistfully: “I’ll do it for him.”
“Good, Mr. Shelby. The cards tell me nothing more about you than we all know: your life is a complete disaster. But know that the only times you see Grace is at Charlie. His hallucinations are not real. "
All hell broke loose in Thomas Shelby's face.
"What do you mean?" he asked, keeping a monotonous voice.
"I am not being able to communicate with Grace, Mr. Shelby..." sighed the young woman.
"And what the fuck does that mean?"
"She may be in fuckin’ hell and that's why you can't communicate, my dear." Polly spat, smoking a cigarette Tommy closed his eyes and sighed heavily.
"Trust me, Polly. I have spoken to Lucifer himself." she blurted out casually "Mr. Shelby, Grace is not dead."

Peaky Fookin' Blinders Asks: 3, 4, 7, 11, 14, 22
3. Most boring character?
Hmm~ I’d say Kimber. He was so boring and looking back on season one he was quite a bland villain. Watching the Series for the first time I thought he was the main villian and not Campbell (now I’m not so sure anymore) but he always seemed to lack something. Tommy outwitted him so fast and the only thing he did was being garbage and totally uselass als a Gangster. Seriously how did he manage to be the third biggest player who controls the races??
4. Most hated character?
Oh there are a couple characters I really don’t like. Kimber, Campbell, Father Hughes. Right now it is Gina. Her character just didn’t do it for me in S5 (we don’t talk about that season, I still try to forget it happend for the most part), instantly disliked her. Maybe she will grow on me a bit more like Linda did. I still don’t like Linda much but it’s not as strong as when i first watched the seasons with her.
7. Favorite quote?
Soo many good quotes, I can barely decide! “No fucking fighting” and “Don’t mess with the Peaky Blinders” are so iconic. Really I could just list quote after quote here, but I won’t since thats not the point. Here are two quotes that I can also relate too.
“They say life is too short to hold grudges, I think life is too short to be letting people get away with the same shit.” - Tommy Shelby
“I don’t need a knife to stop me telling secrets given in confidence. It is a matter of honor.” - Esme
11. What surprised you the most?
When I first watched season 4 I was really shocked when Polly made the agreement with Luca. I truly thought she would betray Tommy. Also the family nearly getting hanged. But I geht surprised all the time, even while rewatching the seasons I realize new details and get surprised by them.
(@deepdonutkid I guess you can agree with me? Since I constantly tell you what surprised me now, even when I get surprised multiple times by the same detail xD)
14. Favorite Villain?
Alfie Solomons. He is a genius and iconic character, just the things he says are so great. He might not be a true Villain anymore since he and Tommy worked together so they were a weird mix ox enemies/allies??Luca Changretta was also a good villian.
22. Do you identify with any character/why?
Somehow with Ada. She is such a badass woman and I love her taste! Her outfits and don’t even get me started on her home décor! Not sure If I’m really anything like her but I would like to be so badass and strong and confident like her!

Peaky Blinders 5.03 recap
“We don’t smoke in here” - “Well, I fucking do” damn
Racist, abusive nuns?
“There is God and there are the Peaky Blinders” Can Steven Knight stop with these iconic lines already
“You listen for my footsteps” I’d let Polly Gray walk all over me
Adrien Brody’s portrayal didn’t work for me last season but damn, Sam Claflin is absolutely killing it. I never thought I’d be scared of Finnick Odair
Mosley killed the journalist like OF COURSE HE DID
Lizzie and Linda talking about divorce and trash talking their husbands cleared my skin
Jesus, did Ada raise a little fascist?!
Michael suggesting Tom should see a therapist? 11 out of 10 people agree
“We’re all trying to get away, but we never do” Gina is not impressed
A scene with Jessie Eden and it doesn’t end with them making out? I’d call that an improvement
“Are you okay, Thomas?” She looked so worried. I am worried too, Jessie. I am worried too.
The Grace/Tommy scene? I feel personally attacked. @ Steven Knight how dare you
Not sure if the Lizzie/Tommy scene was brilliantly in character for both of them or if I should be absolutely disgusted by what I just witnessed
“If you marry a Shelby, you stay f-cking married” the amount of times I had the urge to slap Tommy this season is a solid 10/10
damn, alabama gold is a savage
Tommy joining Mosley’s new fascist party to fight the enemy from within? what could possibly go wrong
“Well, Thomas Shelby, if it’s war you want, it’s war you shall get” welp I’m not ready
#peaky blinders#janina talks peaky blinders#lizzie stark#thomas shelby#peaky blinders recap#join me again next week to see how tommy is gonna ruin his life

Synopsis : (Ebook pdf) A ManHis Car: The World’s Coolest Cars and the Stories of the Men Who Are Obsessed with Them Ebook READ ONLINE
Man-about-town and NYC men’s style fixture Matt Hranek is back with his second book, A Man & His Car. Here is a beautiful homage to an object of men’s obsession, told in firsthand original interviews. Jay Leno, a major car collector and the host of Jay Leno’s Garage, shares the story of his oldest car, a 1955 Buick Roadmaster that he bought for $350, which he literally slept in before getting his break in L.A. Kevin Costner reveals that he got so attached to the iconic Shelby Mustang he drove in the movie Bull Durham, he bought it for his own personal collection. Franz von Holzhausen, chief designer at Tesla, who worked hand in hand with Elon Musk to design the Tesla Model S prototype, says that his love of cars started when he was two (as evidenced by a picture of him sitting in a high chair drawing a car). And as for Snoop Dogg and his 1965 Cadillac “Snoop DeVille†convertible—do we even need to explain?A Man & His Car includes visits to some of the most exclusive collections in the world—from that of the Petersen Automotive Museum to those of car manufacturers from Fiat to Alfa Romeo—giving us access to Steve McQueen’s favorite car, a 1956 Jaguar XKSS; the 1971 DeTomaso Pantera that Elvis purchased for his then-girlfriend Linda Thompson (and which has two bullet holes in the steering wheel and one in the driver’s-side floorpan from when, after an altercation with Thompson, Presley fired three rounds into the interior when the car wouldn’t start); and a super-rare, 24-karat-gold-plated 1980 DeLorean DMC-12, a model that was sold exclusively to American Express Gold Card members through the 1980 American Express catalog, for an astronomical $85,000 (equivalent to more than $250,000 today). Exquisite photos of each car accompany each story, and since cars naturally hold more detail than watches, there will be more photos in this book—of the cars head-on, of their hood ornaments and wheels, and of course full-body shots. With Hranek’s storytelling, the cars become more than just vehicles for transportation and status symbols; they represent pop-culture moments, pioneering achievements, heirlooms, friendships, and more.

V-8 For What? These Classic Mustangs are (Probably) Slower Than the EcoBoost
We recently drove the 2020 Ford Mustang EcoBoost Turbo High Performance package (whew) and came away impressed. Its 2.3-liter turbocharged I-4 spits out 332 hp and 350 lb ft of torque, and it feels like it from behind the wheel. Still, that engine might be its biggest problem: Die-hards will scoff and say it only has half the cylinder count of a proper muscle car. Our retort: Who cares? Compared to a V-8, sure, it doesn’t sound as good, and no, it’s not as powerful, but it handles awesomely and is plenty quick. We haven’t had a chance to independently verify Ford’s “mid-four second” 0–60 claim, but if it’s true, then this force-induced pony is quicker than these iconic V-8-powered Mustangs from not so long ago.
1997 MotorTrend Mustang GT SVO Convertible
In 1997, we had a Mustang GT convertible at our disposal. With help from Ford’s SVO performance division, we added new cylinder heads, an intake manifold, exhaust headers, and new engine management software. The result was a car that “tore” to 60 in 6.0 seconds. That wasn’t enough, so we poured more dough into our red drop-top, adding new exhaust, stickier tires, and a Vortech supercharger. That shaved a whopping second off the sprint. Despite how it thrilled us, it doesn’t compare to the 2020 Mustang EcoBoost High Performance package.
2007 Ford Shelby GT
Four-decades-old Shelby design cues still work: Le Mans stripes, aluminum grille, all-business hood scoop, and five-spoke alloy wheels. The wood-rimmed steering wheel in Mike Querio’s early 1966 GT350 is now worth more than what then-girlfriend Linda paid for the entire car in 1974.
The Shelby name isn’t simply given to Mustangs—it’s earned. Through Shelby’s engine upgrades, chassis refinements, and iconic stylistic cues, Mustangs are transformed from everyday ponies to pedigreed thoroughbreds. That’s certainly the story we spun as we waxed over the Ford Shelby GT, a stripe-clad, hood pin–wearing tire screecher that ran to 60 in 5.0 seconds. Quick, sure, but quicker than the EcoBoost High Performance package? No. We wonder what Carroll would think of today’s turbocharged Mustang.
2008 Saleen S281-3V Ford Mustang
Wearing custom body panels and a center-exit exhaust, the Saleen S281 Mustang was a head turner. It had plenty of juice to back up the bodykit, too; its 4.6-liter V-8 was tuned to 335 hp and 345 lb-ft of torque. But its good looks and solid power could still only find a 5.1-second 0–60 time, well behind the new Mustang EcoBoost Turbo High Performance package. By today’s standards, more show than go, it would seem.
2010 Roush 427R Ford Mustang
In period, this supercharged aftermarket beast was meant to rival the GT500, and even now its 435 hp and 400 lb-ft is a whole lot. In our First Test, however, that might have been a bit much for our particular car’s rolling stock. Finding and maintaining traction was an issue, and it got to 60 in 4.7 seconds. Nothing wrong with that, other than the fact that this screaming, heavily modified V-8 is only about as quick as a turbo four-banger today.
2019 Ford Mustang GT Bullitt
Our drive of the EcoBoost Turbo High Performance package concluded with a surprise head to head with a Mustang GT Bullitt. It was a great opportunity to compare the two and feel out their differences. It accelerated quickly, but actually any quicker? When we tested the Bullitt at our 2019 Car of the Year event, our best 0–60 run measured 4.6 seconds. Once we get one on the track for testing, could the turbo-four upstart really match the Highland Green classic?
Reread our 2020 Ford Mustang EcoBoost Turbo High Performance package review HERE. And see 2020 Mustang photos below.

Omg you guys are we talking about likability politics and women in Peaky Blinders? I’m gonna cry I have so many thoughts but I don’t have the time for an essay (and let’s be honest nobody wants to read a damn essay). I agree completely that class politics play a huge part in both Peaky canon regarding women and Peaky fandom. But I think there’s another aspect too, so here’s another basic thesis of likability in Peaky Blinders fandom regarding women:
If you’re a blood relative Peaky Blinder woman, you still won’t get the same amount of love as the men, but you’ll by and large escape most of the sexist vitriol that any Peaky Blinder wife or girlfriend is subject to. More nuance below:
If you’re a woman and a blood relative of the Shelby men and you disagree with them, oppose them, yell at them, or in any other way show a sign you might be against any of them in any way, no matter how large or how small, this will generally be taken as a sign that you are sassy and strong, and you are Iconic. Your fashion game, good looks, strength, and general air of coolness will be remarked upon. Fanworks concerning you will usually be vastly ignored in favor of fanworks about the men, but at least those fanworks won’t really attract hatred. These are Polly and Ada. (With the caveat that upon occasion, a Michael stan will hate on Polly on his behalf for being, in their view, a Mean Bad Mother. But this is relatively less common.)
However, if you’re a woman on Peaky Blinders and you are romantically attached to any of the men, you are held up for much more scrutiny. You will be judged on how loyal, “trustworthy”, obedient, and uncomplaining you are; additionally, your worth will be evaluated on the basis of how helpful you are to the men in your life. These are Linda, Grace, Lizzie, Gina, and to some extent May.
Of course, there’s nuance to this. If you have more of a Peaky Blinder man’s emotions in your hands, you will be in for more hatred and suspicion—this is why Tatiana appears to have mostly escaped from the usual accusations of being a traitor, a snake, a bitch, a manipulator, an amoral bad actor—well, that and the fact that her character canonically presents herself as antagonistic and untrustworthy, so. Less of an accusation to make there. May in season 4 received less hate than she did in season 2, for example, and I believe this is because at that point it had become clear that Tommy was not as emotionally invested in her as he was in Grace.
An extremely interesting note is that Esme for some reason has gotten away almost scot free with challenging Tommy, which I find both heartening and perplexing. Perhaps this is because she’s John’s wife, not Tommy’s, and this the fandom doesn’t feel the eternal threat of the Deceptive Bad Wife in her, because she’s always depicted as loving John.
Based on this landscape of Peaky Blinder fandom reactions to different women, I can pretty easily predict what the average reaction will be to almost any content. This is actually how I predicted that a significant portion of the fandom would hate Gina. To this day, if I post something about, say, Linda that’s even remotely positive, it won’t be unreasonable for me to expect someone to reblog it with a totally irrelevant “yeah I never trusted her” or comments about how bad a wife she is. However, if I post about Polly, I can be pretty sure that won’t occur.
I’m open to your thoughts on this and quite interested in what everyone thinks, but also, I’m on here for fun so if people wanna get really spicy I am perfectly happy to use the glock button ;)
bakedapplesauce replied to your post:
idk i find Lizzie and Linda to be the most…
this isn’t about Linda or Lizzie, but on that same note, I think Polly as a person is pretty fucking… unlikable, at times? (don’t get me wrong, I love her as a character, but she is so very, VERY flawed and pretty cruel at times, and it seems to me fandom tends to idolize her and ignore all the bad stuff)
Yes!! She is!! She can be terrible!! She flies off the handle at the drop of a hat and like you said, can be cruel and unlikeable.
I’ve posted about Grace’s politics in s1 and how she’s fine with some pretty awful stuff and does some terrible things herself, and how that’s ignored by fandom, but this is an excellent point about Polly. I think what happens is that Polly and s1 Grace are seen as “good female characters” because they’re seen as badass and independent etc, and they are!
But this tends to mean they get idealized and everything they do that is not so pretty is ignored the same way that everything messy that Linda and Lizzie do is focused on evidence they are “bad” characters. It’s like admitting that Grace and Polly have flaws means they must therefore then be changed from “good” to “bad” character categories or something, so those flaws are ignored, while with Lizzie and Linda *only* their flaws are focused on, and the fact that they’re both smart as whips and resourceful are ignored. Linda’s standing up for herself gets ignored because it tends to come out in ways that violate the ideal of the Strong Female Character, I guess. Because she can be shrill and petty and mean about it, for example.
May is idealized as a function of her class, too. May can afford to reject a man for not treating her right, or can afford to calmly call him out, or to know exactly what she wants and go for it, because she has the money and power to do so. And that part of the dynamic is also ignored when she’s compared favorably with the “bad” characters like Lizzie.
