Miss Fisher Snippets (180)
After her precious grandson ignored her warning and accepted a private dinner invitation from the floozy, Grandma Lin decided to take a more drastic measure by paying her a personal visit. Little did she know that Phryne Fisher was not one easily offended by name calling or scared off by the talk of curses, so this visit was essentially wasted.
A couple of random thoughts. The Mandarin pronunciation of Fox Spirit is Hu-li-jing (狐狸精), which actually kind of resembles “floozy”. Also, Grandma Lin said that Lin Chung was promised to be married to a good “family” in Shanghai, not a good “girl”. I could imagine how furious she must have been later with the Hu family when she found out that her granddaughter-in-law-to-be was not the good girl she assumed her to be.

Hero 108 spoilers if you don't want to be spoiled for a 10+ year old show
I think it's funny in a way to imagine Yang Tu as being a spoiled nepotism baby who was given way too much responsibility and who always wants a say in everything
I'm being serious even in the episode he's in it's clear that he just wants to be in full control, until his dad comes in, then he can go and complain to him that someone (Lin Chung) wasn't listening to his orders. Like come on you can't tell me that as a kid, he didn't have total meltdowns over being told he can't have a toy or dessert before dinner

Reading 23 Books for 2023: Book 3
The Castlemaine Murders (2003)
by Kerry Greenwood
I picked up this book from the Little Free Library by my bus stop, as I've always liked mysteries and it had an art nouveau style cover.  It turned out to be a fun read!
It's set in the 1930s, so the same era as "Topper", but now from an author who is looking back on that era.  The heroine and detective is Phryne Fisher, who is one of those clever, self-possessed, wealthy, independent characters where it's like, "Damn, wish that was me." Anyway, the mystery begins with Phryne, her adopted daughters, and her stuffy sister, who recently arrived from England, going through a haunted house ride in Luna Park and discovering that one of the mannequins decorating the ride is a real (and ancient) corpse.  Meanwhile Lin Chung (Phyrne's lover) is trying to end a feud between his family and another and discovers some clues to the dead mystery man along the way.
Mystery stories are mystery stories, they are more about seeing the clues unfold and the occasional burst of action than characterization, so there's not too much to say about the plot.  But there were two aspects that particularly interested me.
The first aspect was how diverse the book was for being written in 2003.  A lot of the story revolves around a branch of Lin Chung's family, which emigrated to Australia during the gold rush days.  And also Phryne discovers the reason her sister, Beth, had a falling out with their father is that Beth has become a socialist and fallen in love with another woman.  Phryne is supportive and basically like, "Good for you for standing up to him finally."
For real-life context, the year this book was published was the same year President George W. Bush promoted "Marriage Protection Week" to protect marriage from falling into the hands of the filthy gays who would . . . ruin marriage. Somehow. If they got it.  Never forget that US Republicans suck.
The second aspect was that at the end of the book the author thanked the reader and provided her actual honest-to-god actual email address (now defunct I'm sure), along with the bibliography of her research and an invitation to contact her with comments or corrections. I can't imagine doing that today. Some jackass on Twitter would organize trolls to harass you.

(Headcanons) How would Lin Chung (Hero 108)celebrate his S/O's birthday?
HELL YEAH MY CARTOON BAE
Reader is gender neutral
CW (CONTENT WARNING): None
Tumblr media
- How you wish to celebrate your birthday is entirely up to you. If you wanted a grand blowout or a tiny get-together, Lin Chung would comply. However you two won’t escape the surprise party coordinated by the rest of First Squad.
- He would be in the sidelines as you join in on the numerous activities his friends had prepared for your party. It only takes you noticing and convincing him to join in on the games. Did I mention you were the only one that can convince him to do things that he initially didn’t want to do? He’s the type that he would do anything in his power to make you smile.
- Speaking of, he would buy a gift that you were eyeing on during a patrol outside or one of the animal kingdoms having it. It’s the one day in every year that you deserve to have everything so he doesn’t care how hard or how expensive the gift is. Lin Chung is a man on a mission to see you happy.
- Of course he would paint you a portrait of yourself as his next gift. The only problem is though is that he doesn’t know how to do it. Like, he knows, but he can’t stick with a proper theme. Should he do something colorful? Monochrome? Spontaneous? All of his thinking nearly led him to breaking apart his brushes.
- It was Jumpy’s idea to make a small book with all of Lin Chung’s drawings of you compiled in it. It held everything that Lin Chung thought about you when he filled it up. It ranged from black and white sketches to colorful masterpieces that nearly made you cry on how good he drew you.
- All in all, it was a pretty sweet and cute birthday party so uncharacteristic of Lin Chung but at the same time so him. It really showed how much he loves you and that he would go great lengths on making sure you know it.

I, S, and Y for Dai Zong (since we got some cute art today XD)
Acrostic F/O Ask Game!
Aaaaa my underappreciated sweetie, I'm happy to give him love! This game tells me to answer the ones of my f/o's name, but if it's not too long, I'll also do S and Y as bonuses!
D - Danger - which of you is more likely to get into trouble? how well does your f/o handle danger?
Well, neither of us go seeking trouble, so that's a good thing. I'd say it'd take longer for me to get out of trouble because I'm not a trained fighter like he is. That's why he handles danger really well, though, and was even able to lead a team of warriors through it. Danger is a challenge to overcome to him, yet he approaches it logically and tactfully, and that's why he usually succeeds.
A - Art - do they draw or paint? what about any other kind of art? what’s their favorite style/subject/another artist who inspires them?
Dai Zong doesn't currently pursue any arts, but he does support the artists in Big Green like Lin Chung. He even poses for paintings sometimes!
I - Image - show us a picture of them that gives you a lot of feelings. if they aren’t a visual character, describe your mental image of them!
Tumblr media
Gotta be this one. He said out loud he never doubted that First Squad would make it out alive in this mission, but then he turns and makes this relieved face to himself. It's just such a touching moment, I love when he shows his heart. 🥺
Z - Zodiac - what’s their sign, or if you don’t know, what would you guess it is based on their personality? (Eastern or Western - personal preference)
I don't know enough about either zodiac, sorry! 😅 If I went to research it, we'd be here for ages. XD
O - Online - what is your f/o’s social media presence like, or what would it be like if they had internet in their world/era?
Oh man, First Squad meets the internet, imagine the possibilities. XD As for Dai Zong.... he might like Youtube a lot, and might even have a presence there doing a fitness video series. He also likes seeing people upload their outdoors experiences, and a few meme videos here and there (he's a tough audience, but there are some gems that always get him to laugh). Although... he might not be able to use any of it till he gets his hands cured.. <_<'''
N - Nostalgia - what’s your f/o’s favorite memory?
It might be when he won his first fighting tournament. He was a promising warrior from a young age, till he got cursed. A more touching one would be our first New Year together as a couple; the celebration was spectacular and we felt a lot of sparks in the air. Being together made us feel even more confident about the coming year ahead of us, that we could face whatever comes our way, together.
G - Gush! talk about how much you love them 💜
YES! It's been so long since I last talked about him. What a perfect way to finish the post.
I feel like, of all my f/os, Dai Zong is my rock: the sturdiest, most reliable one. He has a strong spirit and a loyal heart, and would be there right beside me during all the storms. He's encouraging and he believes in me always. I know where I stand with him, and where he stands on everything.
And I love how he's not just some stick in the mud either. He knows how to have fun and laugh! He just doesn't like when others complicate things and stress him out. He adheres to principles and routine, but he'll also make a silly pose with Jumpy for Lin Chung to paint. I just love him so much, and I know the self ship community will understand me saying that despite what he looks like and where he's from.
I'll bet he's the next one I marry, too. 😉

For the relationships thing: Avatar/LOK universe, MFMM, and of course DBM
OOOO THIS IS A GOOD ONE!
Avatar/LOK universe
My favorite parent-child relationship
Iroh and Zuko (Iroh is Zuko’ dad and no I will not be taking and criticism at this time)
My favorite sibling relationship
Bumi, Kya, and Tenzin. Like all of the feels, they love each other but they had childhood emotional trauma caused by well-meaning but ultimately human parents who also with trauma. And it speaks to me on a level. Like they have resentments toward each other but they will also like kill for each other, and I respect that. And it feels real.
My favorite family relationship (other)
The found family that Katara, Sokka, Aang, Toph, Suki and co. created. Then passed onto their kids. Like I love that.
My favorite friendship between two people
Sokka and Toph (I kinda ship it but it doesn’t have to be romantic for me...) I love how much he takes care of her/watches out for her and how she knows she can reach out for him and he’ll be there. And it doesn’t take away from Toph’s own strength either.
My favorite friendship between a group
idk how to interpret this one but i’m thinking a group towards one person or maybe one group towards another??? So i’m just gonna say the Gaang with Iroh. He’s the dad/uncle/grandpa they all need.
My favorite mentorship
Tenzin and Korra. Like I can’t even imagine how hard it must have been for Tenzin to take on the mantle of teacher to his father’s successor like omg. But also like I think Korra opened up a side of him that hasn’t been seen by anybody but maybe his kids, Pema, and Lin. Like no one has seen soft Tenzin in public in a while. And I don’t think he let his guard down the same way since his dad died. And for Korra I think Tenzin grounded her in a way no one could. Like she didn’t need a parent or protectors/teachers she needed a mentor that was somewhere in between authority figure and friend.
My favorite rivalry
Roku and Sozin. LIKE idk why but after reading about Fire Nation culture in Shadow of Kyoshi LiKE DUUUUUUDE! I mean. Talk about dishonor??? ROkU YOU SHOULD’VE JUST KILLED HIM INSTEAD OF HUMILIATING HIM LIKE THAT!!!! Like civil wars have been started by Clans for less dude. No wonder Sozin wanted every avatar after dead and then when the next born into the fire nation under the control of the Fire Lord. Like BRUH.
My favorite hatred/antipathy
The face stealer and the avatar. Or
My favorite potential relationship between characters who never talk in canon
hmmmmmmmmmmmm Probably Yue with literally everyone else. She would’ve been so amazing as a continuing part of the Gaang (sorry Sokka/Suki shippers).
MFMM
My favorite parent-child relationship
Aunt P and Phryne. I think any sort of real motherly advice/love Phryne has gotten has been from Aunt Prudence (as much as we hate how many kisses she’s interrupted...)
My favorite sibling relationship
Bert and Cec totally brothers from another mother. Like that whole episode when Bert was being dumb about Cec getting married was total sibling vibes.
My favorite family relationship (other)
Jane and Phryne. Idk if Phryne is like a mom for Jane but she’s definitely that crazy Aunt who you can call at 3 am when you’re in trouble. Also
My favorite friendship between two people
I’d say Mac and Phryne. ride or die friends are always preferred.
My favorite friendship between a group
The family that builds between the Wardlow crew (Mac incl.) and Jack and his son constable.
My favorite mentorship
Mr B and Dot. Like I don’t see him as a father figure to her buuuut I do think he does sort of help her learn how to deal with the eccentric rich person she has come to be in the care of. Like Mr B has seen it all. Knows what kind of shenanigans the rich and famous get up to and helps Dot navigate all of that.
My favorite rivalry
I guess I’d have to go with Jack and Lin Chung. And I’ve never read the books so idk what Book!Lin was like but I think it was more of a matter of who understood Phryne in the TV show better. Lin thought he could get Phryne to commit by changing her but Jack knew that however they came together would largely happen when they could meet in the middle. (no i do not hate Lin Chung just putting that out there.)
My favorite hatred/antipathy
Phryne and Misogynists. Like period. end of.
My favorite potential relationship between characters who never talk in canon
Aunt P and Jack. They talk but to my recollection are not like close. So I think it would be interesting for Aunt P to come to the realization that this “poor” copper is actually the best thing that has ever happened to her niece like ever.
TDBM
My favorite parent-child relationship
Lucien and Mattie. He’s the daughter he kinda gets to be a father to and I love it. Also Jean and Christopher ( I wanted ten more years of that okay????)
My favorite sibling relationship
Matthew and Lucien, definitely a sibling relationship.
My favorite family relationship (other)
The family Jean and Lucien build for themselves with friends and boarders. (I like a good found family so sue me!)
My favorite friendship between two people
Matthew and Jean. Besides Lucien I think Jean is one of his oldest friends so I love that for them.
My favorite friendship between a group
Probably the relationship that Lucien/Matthew and co have with Ashby. That’s a good one.
My favorite mentorship
Matthew and Charlie. I think that Charlie worked better with him than Danny did, I think their personalities are more compatible and Charlie knew that while the Doc is one of the smartest people in the room, Matthew was usually the wisest and most cautious.
My favorite rivalry
I’d have to say Munroe and Lucien. Lucien just wants to chill and Munroe wants to ruin his life. Like you have to respect the tenacity if anything.
My favorite hatred/antipathy
Alderton and Lucien. Specifically like Alderton’s descent into madness. He really wanted to ruin Lucien’s life because Lucien saved him? Found a way to move past the war? Like I just think being best friends/like brothers to absolutely hating each other yes good character development I want more please.
My favorite potential relationship between characters who never talk in canon
Probably that time Alice came over and like unintentionally met Mei-Lin, comedy gold. just that whole scene.
Ask me gen fandom relationships

Human Lanterns (1982)
Tumblr media
Directed by Chung Sun Screenplay by Kuang Ni and Chung Sun Music by Chin-Yung Shing and Chen-Hou Su Country: Hong Kong Language: Mandarin (English subtitles) Running time: 94 minutes
CAST
Tony Liu as Lung Shu-Ai Kuan Tai Chen as Tan Fu Lieh Lo  as Chao Chun-Fang Ni Tien as Lung's Wife Linda Chu as Yen Chu Hsiu-Chun Lin as Tan Mei-mei Meng Lo as Kuei Szu-Yi Chien Sun as Sergeant Pan
Tumblr media
Human Lanterns is a ridiculous and ridiculously entertaining Hong Kong martial-arts-horror movie from The Shaw Brothers. Shaw Brothers movies inhabit a bubble of moviedom entirely their own; much like an Elvis Movie or a Nikkatsu Action movie or even, yes, a David Lynch movie. If you’ve seen one Shaw Brothers movie you may not have seen them all but you will have seen what they are all like. This is by no means a criticism. But it does mean if you have ever seen a Shaw Brothers movie and disliked it then you’re unlikely to like Human Lanterns. If you have and you did then you will. If you see what I mean.
Tumblr media
Two rich men in a fairy-tale Hong Kong past of fancy hats, submissive women and ornate roofing spend their abundant free time scheming to outdo and embarrass each other in public. This pointless cock measuring culminates every year in a contest to see who can place the best lantern in the town’s prestigious lantern festival. Tan Fu (Kuan Tai Chen with a moustache) peaks early by unveiling a magnificent lantern unlikely to be rivalled by mere mortal artisanship. It looks like pompous toff Lung Shu-Ai (Tony Liu with inhumanly thick sideburns) is out of luck this year lantern-wise. But, while berating his tame drunk of a lantern maker it transpires the aged souse has been cheekily subcontracting his lantern construction to a mysterious and preternaturally skilled figure who skulks beyond town. Not entirely coincidentally this turns out to be Chao Chun-Fang (Lieh Lo – who, let us not forget,  by 1969 became the first ever Kung-Fu superstar, preceding even Bruce Lee) from whom Lung Shu-Ai stole his love while also scarring Chun-Fang in the process. Blinded by arrogance to the possibility this might horribly backfire on him Lung Shu-Ai employs Chao Chun-Fang to construct the most unique lantern ever.  Shortly thereafter the ladies loved by both Lung Shu-Ai and Tan Fu begin to disappear, abducted by a mysterious figure in a spooky skull mask who is fond of leaping about in slow motion. The finger of guilt points at both of the squabbling dandies in turn, but is the culprit someone else, possibly someone with a grudge, and can the two egotists shelve their inconsequential duel of wits and join forces before the title of the movie is given horrible reality? (I’m not expecting an answer there.)
Tumblr media
Essentially then, Human Lanterns is indeed a very Shaw Brothers movie indeed. For the thoroughly uninitiated it should be noted that a Shaw Brothers movie typically has an uncomplicated plot with uncomplicated characters; physically impossible martial arts stunt work transformed via wires and adroit editing into delightful eye-boggling reality; costumes matched in their vivid flamboyance only by that of the wider-than-wide-screen acting; a setting sometime in a bogus past where people lived on sound-stages and apparently lived their entire lives within three of four imaginatively lit sets; a comedy drunk, usually old; a lot of faker than fake blood; a visual style at once utterly artificial and magically enchanting; and maybe a little bit of tit, depending on the mores of the decade in which the movie was made. For those already initiated into the unique splendour of the cinematic phenomenon known only as A Shaw Brothers Movie it should be noted that Human Lanterns is as ostentatiously bizarre and preposterously charming as any of its brethren.

Hero 108 season 3 new villain idea!
I was thinking if season 3 was renewed and set in another channel that aim for older audience(like Adult swim, Netflix or HBO) like samurai jack and adventure time.
If season 3 happens, the new villain will be a very dangerous and psychopathic leader of the terrorist cult organization called “the children of Twin masters”. They be wearing a mask, hood and androgynous armour and nobody knows who they are. They are called “the golden lotus”. Their goal and quest is to revive Twin masters and bring back “utopia”. They will possibly kidnap big green members(most likely animal kings/queens) and faked their deaths. They erased their memories, drugged them, use cold-blooded torturous experiments on them, injected them with black magic and brainwashed them by locking them in a torture chamber, trapping them alone in a cell and forcing them to watch this video for about a year and half showing sick images, Golden Lotus’s soothing hypnotic voice is playing over the video indoctrinating them. They also altered their memories and made them believed they one of them. Golden Lotus and the children of twin masters will be much more dangerous threats and darker villains than high roller and zebra twins. If the brainwashed big green members break away their brainwashing and get their memories back, they will developed severed PTSD, paranoia and anxiety. The golden Lotus will wear a mask that resemble Twin masters, cape with hood and golden armor. Their color schemes is red, blue, purple and golden. The members of the children of twin masters will wear masks(Similar to twin masters), hoods, spiky armor, leather, face paint, tattoos, chains, robes and their color schemes are red, blue and black. The golden lotus’s weapon is golden claws that can slice, shredded, slash and ripped their victims to death. They are skilled in martial arts, stealth and ninjitsu and their fighting style is silent yet dangerous and catlike and can be compare to a silent but deadly tigress. They also capable of black magic and dark arts.
Headcanons:
1. The children of Twin masters will tried to killed Lin Chung because he murdered their “beloved father”.
2. Dog king will be one of the big green members who got captured and brainwashed by the children of Twin masters. Imagine Wu song trying to break his twin brother out of his brainwashing and remind him who he really is if he find out that one of the members of the Children of the Twinmasters is actually Dog king. It be heartbreaking if Wu song trying to break his brother free from The evil cult’s mind control failed and it end with brainwashed Dog king attacking him(the scene will be off-screen)
3. The golden Lotus’s secret identity and gender will be reveal at the end of season 3.
4. Many of the Children of Twin masters members were once normal civilians trying to get by in their everyday lives, but were then abducted by The golden Lotus`s current followers and received the same brutal “winter soldier” treatment the big green members put through. Worst, most of the children of twin masters members were once kidnapped missing children and babies.
5. All the children of twin masters were mutated monsters and had dark, dangerous powers thanks to the drugs, dangerous experiments and being forcibly injected with black magic.
6. The golden Lotus and the children of twin masters will be defeated at the end of season 4.
7. The cult was created sixteen years ago.
8. Funny thing is Twin masters is unaware that there’s a CULT devoted to him.
9. The golden Lotus is also the founder of the children of twin masters.
10. Golden Lotus’s past and origins are a mystery. Nobody know what their life like before they created The cult. All they know is that some kind of “extremely traumatic and haunting experience” cause The golden Lotus to have many visions of Twin masters leading to them becoming the leader and founder of the cult today.
There be a three year timeskip in season 3

AU where instead of just Magically Gifting(TM) Lin Chung with the power to end the conflict on his own in less than 20 minutes, season 2 of Hero:108 actually like. made the concept of the restoration of harmony the solution to Twin Masters messing shiz up instead of just reducing harmony into purple magic crap that can only be wielded by like 2 people ever.
I know that the show was originally conceptualized as Lin Chung’s coming of age story iirc and I have no beef with him being The Chosen One or even with the purple power itself, but like...................could you heckin imagine if the solution to Twin Masters and the way to combat chaos and war and mistrust and shiz (watered down for the 8 year olds of course) was actually like,,,,,,, cooperation and problem solving??? like,,,, y’know,,,,, Actual harmony???
The show could’ve even still been formulaic and 90% mindless, just add a new type of episode where instead of the formula being distress call -> battle -> competition -> success instead have some episodes be like call -> battle -> underlying conflict (most likely something bass boosted by twin masters) -> resolution via problem solving -> success. And it’d actually be a double-win because not only would there be more episodes to break up the formula a little bit other than just the occasional two-parter, but it’d also give the show a chance to say something meaningful to kids every now and then in addition to just being mindless entertainment.
There’s a lot of season 2 episodes i still love don’t get me wrong but this show slept on so much and i’m still disappointed about it.
On a related note I’ve got an outline of a kinda-rewrite of the season 2 premiere into what i think would’ve had the potential to be a much better story in my head rn but I’ll spare y’all unless anyone’s actually interested and if not then i’ll just plan fanfiction like usual bye [steps off my soap box]

My ideal Star Wars movie, as decided yesterday while crawling toward five o’clock at work:
I’ll be casting a huge handful of my faves. I’m sure they’ll all be very on board just as soon as they’ve heard my pitch. It’s going to be a gorgeous adventure.
So we’ve got Our Heroes: a stars-in-her-eyes Jedi history buff, played by the glorious Tessa Thompson, and her childhood best friend—mouthy and jaded and utterly uninterested in hokey religions Gina Rodriguez. They’ve never been off-planet, though Gina spends most of her time inspecting star charts for The Inevitable Day when she’s finally able to kick the giant-cow-alien herding lifestyle for a world of Wonder and Glory. Tessa is on board for the adventure of a lifetime, just so long as she’s allowed to visit all the places Jedi once roamed (old temples, battlegrounds, Places Luke Skywalker Once Sneezed—the whole drill).
Everything changes when the fire nation attacks when Tessa’s brother (played by Michael B. Jordan)—who has recently gone off-world for the first time to join the Honor Guard of the Galaxy (the new-age rebel faction)—gets a missive out requesting aid. They’ve been trapped! They need a calvary! Their home planet was the only one within messaging range! Who cares, details, all you need is a spark, etc.
Tessa easily convinces Gina it’s time to go, with one small problem—we lack a ship! Every first Star Wars needs a good cantina sequence, so off we go to find the one and only bar on this Planet of Chill Shepherds, where we will meet our fabulous crew of Space Pirates, starring:
Lupine Nyong’o as the charming Force-sensitive captain, because I am personally insulted they put her in a Star Wars movie and didn’t let us see her face
Kristen Stewart as the James Dean fighter pilot, because let’s be honest, Kristen Stewart isn’t playing enough characters that let her wear leather jackets, drop one-liners, and flirt with ladies
Ellen Page as the scrappy weapons specialist with the softest of squishy hearts, who has been low-key in love with Kristen since they picked her out of a bar brawl on a planet far far away (but as they’re Too Close, would never admit it)
Off we go on a glorious rescue mission (act 1) culminating in coming Face to Face with the resident Big Bad of the new Empire-figure—Emma Thompson, who is granted the most luxurious cloak she could possibly desire and full rights to her own makeup (does she want to be aristocratic? Darth Maul scary? wear a Chewbacca mask? Emma Thompson gets what Emma Thompson wants). She is, at all times, flanked by her Left Hand (a terrifyingly speedy lightsaber master played by Anna Kendrick, because my life is incomplete without Anna Kendrick getting solid fight scenes for no reason at all) and her Right Hand (Keira Knightley, an expert tactician who has been nursing Secret Second Thoughts about this whole ruling the galaxy situation for a hot minute now).
A brief battle ensues, with Tessa narrowly escaping a Harrowing Attack thanks to the Force (she will be VERY excited about this later, which will annoy Gina to no end, and delight the shit out of Lupita). They manage to reach the Honor Guard team, which currently consists of Michael (insert adorable sibling reunion here), Gemma Chan, and Jamie Chung. Madcap spaceship escape takes place, and everyone rejoices until—drumroll—Nyong’o discovers A STOWAWAY in the form of Knightley.
Important features for the rest of the series:
Keira has a Zuko-esque Road to Redemption arc, which is far more palatable as A) they do not give her an easy time of it, and B) she hasn’t actually murdered anyone or been jazzed about helping Emma all this time (“Keira! I am your MOTHER!” can come at the end of film 1 or in film 2, depending on highest emotional heartstring likelihood—perhaps not a surprise so much as Pure Rage on Emma’s part)
After an appropriate amount of groveling/distrust/helping save their lives, she sloooowly breaks down Tessa’s barriers. A love story for the ages, because there’s no, like…rampant manipulation and abuse.
Gina finds herself falling for Badass Captain Lupita, because who wouldn’t, but also UGH SHE’S INTO THIS FORCE SHIT HAVEN’T I ALREADY SUFFERED ENOUGH
Ellen and Kristen slow-burn full of longing looks and pangs of jealousy as Kristen is learning not to flirt with everyone who crosses her path. Bonus points for a Steamy Patch-Up sequence after Ellen is injured saving all their asses somehow (probably in film 2).
We all end up back on Shepherd planet for a brief refuel, including a pleasant dinner with Gina’s uncle (Lin Manuel Miranda) and his husband (Manny Jacinto)—until UH OH the Baddies are setting off our Invisible Alien-Cow-Keeping Fence Alarms, you have to all go NOW (there’s a lovely underground tunnel for just such an escape because….black-market cow feed reasons)
A terribly brief, but utterly delightful sequence in which Anna Kendrick With The Loosest Hold On Her Temper Imaginable contends with Lin and Manny’s neighbor, Chris Evans, going out of his way to be sweet as pie and as distracting as humanly possible. If any other straight white boys exist in this trilogy, I have not yet cast them, but I suspect they will largely get to be aliens and droids, because…it’s their turn.
Thandie Newton as the Head of the Honor Guard, because god-dammit, she did not get enough screen-time in Solo.
Many many badass battles, one of the Most Hardcore of which is Ellen Page v. Anna Kendrick (Smol v. Smol, lightsaber duel—have not decided who wins or at what point, but this is likely what triggers the Steamy Patch-Up scene.
Much work left to do on fleshing out, and a whole host of casting to determine (I love a good callback, so we may perchance see Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, and Daisy Ridley back for a cameo; also would love to get Mahershala Ali in as perhaps Thandie’s own Right-Hand badass), but I think we have a really promising start to a film series that would infuriate those who believe Women Ruined Star Wars, and garner a stupid amount of money from everyone else. I’ll be sure to keep the world posted on Disney’s incoming offer.
