okay I know this is irrational but like I’m worried that once tgg comes out, and lyra is obviously graysons love interest, people will completely overlook avery.

I understand that it isn’t her series and ofc tgg is going to be in the limelight since its the new book. But avery is my favourite character in the whole series and as it is people already reduce her to whether you’re ‘team jameson’ or ‘team grayson’. She’ll just be further ignored when all the averygrayson stans don’t need her anymore to fulfill their fantasies of dating grayson (which is my opinion, you can disagree).

And like most likely something similar will happen to lyra which is also so stupid.

It bothers me that female characters are just seen as props to be shipped with the male character, when actually they are so much more fleshed out than people care to look into.

And also I just want avery to be appreciated for once 😭 she’s gone through so much character development from seeing herself as wallpaper to owning the fact that she’s an icon, just for fans to go and ignore her all over again. I feel like she’s such a relatable character for me so her being ignored makes me angry cause BRO HOW CAN YOU NOT BE IN LOVE WITH HER?

This is more so to tig fans on other platforms because tumblr is actually quite good.

SHAWN MENDES - "WHY WHY WHY"

First Sabrina, now Shawn... we just need one more a triple-repeated title song to get a trend piece going...

Iain Mew: Shawn aims soft and tries to bring out the anguish and cyclical hopelessness in small moments. The musical stomp has other ideas, stomping out subtlety without bringing anything worth replacing it with. The resultant sense of aimless momentum leaves it sounding like a festival EDM track with all of its drops missing. [3]

Jeffrey Brister: On the one hand, it is a dated stomp-clap folk single with gang vocals and a hefty dollop reverb in the chorus; with nary a strummed guitar figure or slide flourish or mandolin accent out of place. On the other hand, this sounds really REALLY good. The worst thing I could say about this song is that it’s unmemorable, and it will fade into the swirling morass of competent-if-not-incredible folk songs that sit at the bottom of my mind, and will eventually get it confused with something else years later. But in this moment? Hey, pretty good. [6]

Nortey Dowuona: Mike Sabath can apparently work magic. I mean, he can lay down some firm, surprisingly sturdy but unambitious drums that allow Chris Thile on mandolin, Kevin Barry on lap steel guitar, Eddie Barry on guitar, Shawn himself on guitar with Scott Harris on background vocals to fill up the mix with all the angst and unalloyed joy that come with finding one's footing after years of grasping around in the dark for your parents to protect you, for your lover to return to you, for the small, imaginary bundle who you're convinced is crying out for you to hold them. Then you remember they're not imaginary. You wonder why you thought that. Then you get up and hold your infant son until you fall asleep instead. Mike then has to worry about maybe lowering the bass to let the lap steel sound better but makes sure to not disturb you or the baby. [8]

Michael Hong: The comparisons to Man of the Woods have been unavoidable, but "Isn't That Enough" sounds closer to the alt-country of Waxahatchee than anything by Justin Timberlake. Pleasant enough if a bit repetitive, but as "Why Why Why" attempts to kick up the dust into something anthemic, it sounds more like a deflated version of Avicii's "Wake Me Up."  [3]

Jacob Sujin Kuppermann: A perfect choice for listeners who found Benson Boone and Noah Kahan to be too aggressive. [2]

Grace Robins-Somerville: Sexless Ed Sheeran-ass Zoloft-ass fake deep pop music. [2]

Ian Mathers: Is it weird that this feels post-Iron & Wine to me? Something to do with the guitar tone and how it and the vocals are layered. It's pleasant enough, and the idea of post-teen pop Sam Beam makes me smile. Congratulations, you've justified your existence for another day! [6]

Taylor Alatorre: An emulsified soup of folky signifiers, "Why Why Why" achieves pathos of a sort -- not from the feelings described within it, but from the singer's need to transmute those feelings into rustic coffeehouse wallpaper. The once and future teen idol is mandated after a certain age to reveal more of himself, his true self, but only within well-defined limits: no to Big Star's Third, yes to "Garden Party." Or "Story of My Life," if we're being realistic here. The big reveal of "Why Why Why," that of deferred fatherhood, is given its requisite four bars in the limelight, then is quickly blotted out by the oncoming rush of billowy acoustic chords and twangy guitar stabs. This may be for the better, given Mendes's earnest belief in the mind-blowing lyrical power of the father-mother juxtaposition. Best to let the sound engineers do the real talking here; that coiled spring of rapid-fire strumming that sews up the aforementioned verse has replay value of its own. [5]

Jonathan Bradley: The best thing about this fibrous Shawn Mendes strum is how it inadvertently demonstrates the talent someone like Ed Sheeran or Noah Kahan has. They could make "Why Why Why," and a lot of time they functionally do. And that would sell, and people who want earnest and modestly rousing folk songs, which are a perfectly reasonable thing to want -- 12 years later, I'm still willing to defend "Ho Hey" -- would be pleased to cue it up on their playlists. But it takes skill to create an "A Team" or a "Stick Season," the versions of this sound that involve more craft and finesse than necessary. I don't think Mendes is capable of elevating his compositions to that level but, hey, at least he's capable of not sinking them to Lewis Capaldi depths. [4]

Katherine St. Asaph: Javiera Mena isn't supposed to sound like the Lumineers, but Shawn Mendes isn't��not. The sound of basking blissfully in low expectations. [5]

Lol, if not SATAM bleeding into things, it seems we often get the "Chri/s Thorndy/ke" effect when it comes to OCs being introduced to the cast too. (Granted with IDW, the OCs have/had potential, just unfortunately hit often with questionable direction. Rather than being role-snatchers off the rift; but it wouldn't shock me if it happens eventually. We got close a few times.)

Probably the most obnoxious thing about canon foreigners is that compared to the game cast, they're just so. Damn. BORING. Limelight-leeching is bad enough. It's even worse when said leeches are boring.

Or the people behind them cite some barely referenced element of them or quirk that they think make them interesting.

I for one don't give any more of a damn about Nobody the Owl and Who-Gives-A-Shit the Rooster from them being in a gay relationship because the characters themselves are so. Damn. Boring. So I'm not the least bit invested in them to care. Belle voicing speech quirks that play into her nature being a wooden marionette i.e "Aw sawdust" doesn't make her quirky and interesting. She just as bland as wallpaper paste as she always was. And her being connected to the extremely overused Mr Tinker thing, which is the entire reason for her very existence, is just another blow against the character - Being that she exists as an extension of a plot point that's been dragged-out and become tired months after it became so and beyond when it was even relevant.

Like, lets use Sonic himself as an example; He's impatient and short-tempered. But he despises oppression and unfairness. He doesn't do what he does out of some obligation, out of the desire to be seen as a hero. He does it because he's a nice guy.

He has interesting quirks. He likes reading. Especially during the rainy season. He appreciates nature but gets hay fever. He's willing to use technology to get the job done but clearly dislikes the way Dr Eggman misuses it. He's arrogant and has an ego but is capable of modesty and dislikes being referred-to with formal titles. In all honesty, can you name a single IDW character or Archie character for that matter who is as multi-layered and has quirks that are actually interesting to the extent that Sonic has, who BTW is widely considered to be a flat character in his series?

I think you'll find it a huge challenge.

Blogpost 03: Planning the Experience

To commence our first week as a team, we created a Discord server to help us communicate with each other and work on the production of our dome project.

Theodor added multiple channels in our server to help us keep track on all of our sources and tasks in the future, such as 'research', 'tumblr' and 'work-in-progress'. Within research, we all agreed to include inspiration of exhibition works showing immersive experience and unique concepts. As result, we gathered an array of immersive experiences and decided to delve into brainstorming on what our potential dome concepts could be.

Liuchang picked out this exhibition as inspiration for an 'integration' of environment simulation as a potential concept for our experience. Similar to the 'integration' animation found in any Assassin's Creed gameplay throughout its loading screens. This marked the first type of idea we established in our first Discord group call.

The second idea we came to stemmed from Theodor's research into aquatic simulations; this particular experience was picked as a strong source of abstract 'immersion', which Theodor suggested as a good focus of experimentation in our project.

For our third idea, Mica picked out planetarium videos detailing a dome experience of space and the universe. The obscurity of this concept leaves room for creativity to be filled in, as we all racked our brain to plan an interesting execution to delivery such an idea.

During our group call, we used the Miro site to brainstorm our ideas. We managed to come up with the three ideas based on our individual research. Thus, we went into further detail of these ideas by branching them into specific ways to portray them all.

Lots of interesting ways to represent these concepts were formed and discussed about, so we had decided to start testing out two of these ideas, as we couldn't decide between the 'underwater' and 'galaxy sky' environment ideas.

This commenced our first assignment of individual tasks, which Mica and Theodor managed a pinned comment in the Discord server in reminding each of our roles throughout the first week of production. During the brainstorming sessions, we used multiple Harnad's types of creativity (Harnad S, 2007) such as analogy, preparation, intuitive and aesthetic factors, constraints, and the most important, complementarity. We made connections between our fields, did strong research, managed to overcome new 360 VR workflow, and collaborated to create a complex immersive experience.
