Character Introduction: Catalyst Main Characters

WIP: Catalyst

The main group of protagonists consists of Cariad, Magnus, Valeria, and Aislin, shapeshifters from one of the three Orders featured in Catalyst. In addition to the core four, there are three other important characters from much farther back in the past, whose story we also follow as the main action unfolds. These three are Lily, Twist, and Micah.

Cariad: Cariad is the de facto leader of the core four, mostly because he is the only one with any semblance of impulse control. He comes from the Order of the Blazing Leaf, which is typically characterized as bold and brave. Cariad was never much for shenanigans, until he met Magnus that was. The two bonded super fast, and it was then that Cariad discovered that he just likes to collect outcasts and absorb them into his friend group. His favorite form is a tiger, and he does take on a lot of cat-like traits. He is insanely loyal and he can and will obliterate anyone who messes with his friends.

Magnus: Magnus is an experimenter first and a person second. He loves tinkering around with things and trying new stuff, which leads to a lot of mishaps. He and Cariad met when one of his inventions went awry and nearly blew both of them up. He also gets along really well with Aislin, probably because he wasn’t freaked out by her being half demon. Instead, he was instantly intrigued and decided to devote an obscene amount of time to helping her figure out her powers and abilities. His favorite thing to turn into is a hawk, and he is from the Order of the Misted Lake.

Valeria: Valeria embodies the bold and brash characterization of the Order of the Blazing Leaf. She is loud, bombastic, and down to fistfight literally anyone. One day she crashed a group meeting between the other three and then she kind of just kept following them around until they let her join the group. She is incredibly strong and her readiness to punch literally anyone in the face makes her a good fighter. She has also designated herself Aislin’s best friend, much to Aislin’s chagrin. Her favorite form to turn into is a black bear.

Aislin: Aislin is from the Order of the Crescent Moon, which is not a fun place to be when you are half demon. Her non-demon father sees her as a disgrace, and she is often looked down upon by the other Order members. The only ones that seem to trust and accept her are her friends. She met Cariad and Magnus by coincidence one day when she was attempting to run away, and they convinced her to stay. Often surly and angry, Aislin can be hard to get along with, but the others are persistent, and they refuse to stop caring about her. As a half demon, Aislin has a demon form she can shift into in addition to her regular abilities, but in her demon form she is basically feral, and has little control over herself. Her favorite thing to turn into is a panther.

Lily: Formerly a member of the Order of the Misted Lake, Lily is cursed to never die, and has wandered the world of Emoria for over a century. She was banished from the Orders for killing her sister Twist, and her face was burned to mark her as a dangerous outcast. However, there is a lot of secrecy and misdirection over what actually happened that day when Lily stabbed Twist on the shore of the lake, and the Orders seem intent on keeping the events of that day a secret. Her favorite thing to turn into is a wolf.

Rylia “Twist”: A member of the Order of the Blazing Leaf, Twist was a bright and joyful person, always dragging her much moodier sister out on adventures with her and her boyfriend Micah. She was murdered by Lily, and some have reported seeing her ghost around the lake on the anniversary of her death. Whether this is true or not is unknown, and the Orders seem to want to keep it that way. Her favorite thing to turn into was an otter.

Micah: Micah was Twist’s boyfriend, a member of the Order of the Blazing Leaf, and the only known witness of Twist’s murder. He was a little bit of a troublemaker and always had some sort of trick up his sleeve. However, he was truly devoted to Twist, and was devastated by her death. He was said to have died of a broken heart decades later, but his death, much like Twist’s, is shrouded in mystery, and it seems to be a secret the Orders are intent on keeping. His favorite form was a grizzly bear.
