You didn’t expect the knock.

It was late. London rain still tapped quietly at the windows, and the glow of the city had faded into a hazy blur behind the fogged glass. You hadn’t moved from the couch since the call. You were curled under a throw blanket, phone face-down, eyes red.

The knock came again—soft, hesitant.

You opened the door without asking who it was.

Oscar stood there, hoodie damp from the drizzle, hands deep in his pockets. His eyes searched your face, and the moment he saw the tears that hadn’t fully dried, he exhaled like it physically hurt him.

“I heard,” he said quietly. “About Jessy. Meg.”

You stepped aside, wordless, and he entered.

He didn’t ask questions. He didn’t push.

Oscar just sat beside you on the couch, like he had a thousand times before, and waited. And when you didn’t speak, he reached out, gently pulling you against his chest. You let him.

“I’m sorry,” he murmured against your hair. “I should’ve said something sooner. I should’ve… stopped pretending this wasn’t going to hurt people.”

“I don’t think anything we did would’ve made this easier,” you whispered. “But it still hurts. I feel like the villain in someone else’s story.”

Oscar pulled back just enough to look at you. “You're not.”

“Then what am I, Oscar?” you asked, voice breaking. “Because to everyone else, I’m the reason Lily’s heartbroken. I’m the reason her friends hate me. I didn’t mean for this to happen, but it did. And they’re right—I should’ve never let it go this far.”

He reached for your hands, gripping them tightly.

“But it did happen,” he said. “And I don’t regret you.”

“I miss her,” you admitted. “I hate what we did to her.”

“So do I.” He looked away, jaw tight. “But I also hate lying to myself. And maybe this is messy and broken and all kinds of wrong, but what I feel for you… I can’t undo it.”

You rested your forehead against his shoulder, everything in you unraveling.

There was nothing romantic in that moment.

Just two people sitting with the wreckage they’d helped create—two people who had fallen into something inevitable, even if it came at a cost.

Oscar POV - Flashback

And she looked so much like… him.

The thought came before he could stop it. That magnetic pull, the almost uncanny way she mirrored his own silences, his sideways glances, his restraint. Like someone had drawn her from the same ink as him.

It went quiet between them again both tried to figure out what to say or what to do.

Slowly, Lil Coding pulls her into a hug and closes his eyes. Lily returns the hug, hiding her face in his neck.

"They dont.. they don't care about how I feel.." she whispers, voice cracking. "They just tell me to ignore the stress and keep singing.. and I.. I can't.."

She grips the back of his overalls. "When.. when I ran into you today?.. I.. I was running away from them.. I couldn't take it anymore.."

"I think I understand." Lil Coding whispers, rubbing her back. "You don't need to tell me more."

The two stay like that for several moments, with Lil Coding rubbing her back. After a bit, they finally pull away from each other, with Lily rubbing her eyes and Lil Coding smiling a bit.

"Why don't you come live with my family and I at the castle?" he offers. "I'm sure it'll be better than living with your partners."

She raises an eyebrow. ".. this is just kidnapping, but asking beforehand."

He grins. "So that's a yes!"

Lily laughs softly as he picks her up and helps move her onto his back. He gently pats her back with his tail before running off in the direction of the castle.

"Did you guys hear the news?" Meggy asks the next morning, after the whole situation with Lily was concluded. "The Estrellas have been arrested!"

"What?!" Boopkins cries. "They're the people who manage Anonymous L! Aw man.."

SMG4 tilts his head. "How'd they get arrested?"

"Apparently, they were caught trafficking endangered and exotic animals." Meggy informs him whilst showing him an article on her phone. "The prosecutor is looking for the full sentence of 60 years!"

SMG4 frowned. "Aren't they, like, in their mid 30s? Won't they end up dying in prison?"

Meggy shrugs. "Probably."

"Can't do the time, don't do the crime!" Lil Coding calls from the couch where he was watching cartoons with Lily.

"You had something to do with that, huh?" Lily whispers.

The Code only grins. "No clue what you mean."
