re: @noknowshame and @frodo-of-the-nine-fingers, it truly is WILD that cannibalism and The Narrative took off on here to the point that they became “lame” when those were OUR things… imo the urtext for both of those was Moby-Dick, but i may be biased since that’s how i got here. can’t speak for anybody else.
#like. i enter the tumblr scene for all of this in 2018 when i made my Moby-Dick server#so tbf i have no idea what was happening on here before that - i may very well be missing some tumblr cultural context#but i went down the Moby-Dick —> The Terror —> Ravenous —> Black Sails pipeline before ANYONE ELSE (outside our circle) cared#about cannibalism or The Narrative#like. personally i remember being really annoyed when cannibalism got big because people flattened it out and made it just romantic#which was missing the imperialist context of the other works and the way we typically discussed it#and then like two months later somebody made a post saying that and it was like 🤷🤷 yep!#and it seems like no one cares about cannibalism or The Narrative anymore - which is good#not that i would really know bc i follow like 15 people#but i feel like the larger hype has died down a lot and i appreciate that#ours again :))
