I know it's a super unpopular (fanon) opinion but I think both Harry and Sirius are true and perfect embodiment of the Gryffindor house. I see so many fics everyday that both Harry and Sirius would be better suited in other houses, most popular choice being Slytherin, but I just don't see it. They're both act-first-think-later kind of people and rely on their instincts. I don't know how to describe it but they both show the Gryffindor qualities consistently throughout the series (both good and bad) . Maybe I could see Sirius being in Hufflepuff but never in Slytherin. It's preposterous really. But I can see how Harry being in Slytherin could work in some scenarios but he's still too much of Gryffindor imo

as someone who's read probably hundreds of slytherin harry fics (and a few slyth!sirius ones), it only just reinforces this bc most of those heavily alter harry's canon personality to fit him into another house. i think, perhaps, only one fic (lomona's orion/harry) kinda stuck true to what we know and still placed him in slyth.

but on the whole, yeah, what we know of him--recklessness, bravery, self righteousness, bullheaded-ness, instinctive etc etc all reek of gryffindor and i can totally see it. does he have potential for slytherin? absolutely, and i think thats why so many of those au fics work, but ultimately, the way they manifest just scream gryff to me.

take his dealings with the dursleys, for example. he's incredibly sarcastic and blunt in his interactions with them and you could argue a cunning slytherin would prefer more underhanded, subtle tactics but despite knowing what they're like, and all the abuse/neglect he's faced, he still defaults to brazen smart-assery ykno? and i just think thats pretty crucial to who he is. harry will always, always choose to be bold and visible rather than hide in the shadows and do his work, and that makes him a gryffindor over a slytherin i think
