Particular brand of shitty romance writing in this book, when the villain treats the protag much better than the dark broody romantic interest, and somehow she is turned on every time the romantic interest is a dick, but disgusted every time the villain is nice to her.

Like. Not in a "dark romance" type of way. I think it's what the author is TRYING to accomplish. But the heroine never comes across as actually interested in fucked up dark romance. It really just reads as a normie girl wanting a normie relationship who is INEXPLICABLY obsessed with this man that has never been anything but an asshole to her, while also, INEXPLICABLY, insisting there is something wrong and nasty about a "villain" who's only been nice, respectful and charming.

Like. Why the fuck am I rooting for the romantic interest when his rival is ten times nicer?
