like idk. if you were gonna give barbie the time of day in the first place for something that prestigious, I'd at least try to highlight what would elevate that movie to an academy award standpoint, which was greta gerwig infusing what very easily could've been a 2 hr commercial with her very personal themes of girlhood that she puts into all of her work, or margot robbie spending months on end trying to figure out how to portray a doll that has no wants or desires and treating it like she would any other serious role. not ryan gosling being silly (acting award) and ryan gosling being silly again (song award)

I liked barbie, I don't really think its oscar material out of all the movies I saw this year, but I had a good time and it was a fun summer activity with all the hype surrounding it. but the fact that ryan gosling has a nomination and not greta gerwig or margot robbie really is that special brand of academy awards "let's pretend like we care" that got greenbook winning best picture over blackkklansman
