it’s always a little surprising to see her name under “producer” on things she’s in, but i do have to say it’s cool to see Shailene Woodley seemingly just doing whatever for the love of it
#like???? as a kid she was felicity in an old american girl movie#and then hazel (?) in tfios. and the chick from the divergent movies.#saw her in a random cop thriller i put on for no reason bc i was bored. and this thing about a boat wreck or something#and the latter two of that list she also produced#which like. i know nothing about this girl but good for her!! do not be defined by genre nor stereotype!! do what you love! have fun w/ it!#idk i just honk it’s neat i guess#Lu rambles

Wait a minute, I hear you say. Why are we starting with Felicity? She’s neither the first girl to be released (that’s technically a three-way tie, but the honor is usually given to Kirsten) nor the earliest chronologically (that would be Kaya). What is it about her that means she deserves the first entries in this project?
Well, she might not be the first for Pleasant Company, but she was the first for me. In 1998, when I was five years old, I saw a single volume of one of Felicity’s books in a spinning book rack at a Hallmark store, and I asked my mother to buy it for me based on the cover art and the title (it was Felicity Saves the Day, and the cover features her riding a horse and looking determined but frightened). I read it in the car, and then read it again, and read it again. I was already fascinated by history and specifically by material history, by books about ordinary life in the past and books about artifacts and customs. An Usborne book about life in the medieval era was one of my favorites, alongside another Usborne book about world geography that talked about languages and religious beliefs. I also loved children’s-aimed history books and movies like An American Tail, even as much of the subtle commentary went over my head. I loved The Wizard of Oz and its period setting, and this was also the year I discovered Annie through the 1998 Wonderful World of Disney adaptation. In 1999 I became hooked on A Little Princess and The Secret Garden, and Cosette from Les Misérables and a kids’ graphic novel adaptation of Oliver Twist. I had a box set of the Little House books and had a favorite (On the Banks of Plum Creek, if you were curious. Yes, I’m aware of the irony of being indigenous and liking these books as a kid, but my parents were more concerned with making sure I never watched the turboracist Westerns when they came on TV, and by comparison the near-absence of Native people in the Little House books was pretty tame).
Essentially, I was exactly the kind of person who’d become fully fixated on the American Girl books, and on opinionated and spunky heroines like Felicity in particular.
So. Who is Felicity Merriman?
Felicity Merriman is the eldest child of Edward and Martha Merriman, who live and work in Williamsburg in 1774. Edward Merriman is a genteel tradesman who owns a prosperous general store, and Martha is the daughter and probable only surviving child of an unnamed Virginia planter who owns a substantial estate called King’s Creek. Felicity’s younger siblings are Nan, William, and Polly. Her best friend is Elizabeth Cole, a recently-arrived new colonist from England whose family is deeply loyal to the British crown. Her books are primarily about struggling to find her place as a straightforwardly masc-of-center tomboy who prefers crossdressing and working in the trades to mending and cooking, and about the social divides caused by growing anti-monarchist sentiment in the American colonies and how her friendships and morals are impacted by the political turmoil.
Felicity Merriman is also a slaveowner, from a slaveowning family, and at no point do the original six books manage to address this. In fact, they actively avoid it – the status of her father’s assistant Marcus as an enslaved person is only confirmed in the “Looking Back: A Peek Into the Past” section of Meet Felicity once, and while it’s acknowledged that King’s Creek Plantation is a slave-worked plantation with slave quarters, the text of Felicity Saves the Day never states outright that she interacts with slaves despite the illustrations depicting her in the fields alongside them. There’s a darker-skinned woman named Rose who assists her mother domestically, and unlike Marcus she is never confirmed to be either enslaved or free, forcing me to come to the conclusion that she’s probably also owned by the Merriman household and thus by Felicity.
This is the original and damning sin of Felicity’s books and character concept, and it cannot be escaped. Felicity’s social status protects her from a lot of misbehavior and allows her the luxury of a leisurely girlhood with easy education and no expectation that she work for a living beyond being a genteel housewife. She has to pitch in around the house along with her mother and Rose, but she has plenty of time to ride horses and play with her siblings, and she gets away with doing nothing all summer while her laundry and mending and food are all magically done with no effort from her.
This is also one of the twin original and damning sins of America-as-settler-colony – the irony of slaveowners calling for and fighting for a narrow definition of freedom with broad ideals that they only want to take for themselves is at this point a very old topic of conversation. The other sin, the theft of land and the genocide of Native people, isn’t mentioned at all in Felicity’s books. Felicity Saves the Day is at least conscious of the casual cruelty of the Merrimans and devotes much of its Looking Back chapter to discussion of plantation life for slaves, but the only mention indigenous people get is a comment in Meet Felicity that we lived in North America for fifteen thousand years prior to European settlement. Where did we go? What happened to us? Pleasant Company isn’t that concerned with the question.
As a result, Felicity’s books are best read with something of a critical eye. Once you see how completely and how purposefully slavery is erased from her daily life, it becomes impossible to ignore, and kind of drowns out all the other things that are still excellent. And that’s a real shame, I think. There’s a lot to be examined here, about girlhood in the 1770s and girlhood in the 1990s, about class and gender and how those things impact and frustrate Felicity, about how she grows in confidence and about her sense of justice. Those things had an impact on me – I was inspired by her at five years old and I can recognize that fondness and desire to be just like her now, twenty-six years later.
Ultimately, I can love and appreciate what I, personally, internalized about her story and her journey to womanhood, but I’m never going to be able to uncritically lose myself in her world again. That’s the best and most comprehensive introduction I can give, and even that isn’t enough to effectively answer for what Pleasant Company chose to do. I can’t defend it, and I won’t defend it, but this was neither the first nor last book series I loved that was written by racists. I love it enough to say it fucked up badly, and I will be talking about this as it comes up (or doesn’t) in the text. That’s the best I can offer.
So let’s Meet Felicity.

FOR PATRON SAINTS DO YOU THINK EACH KID HAS A COMFORT ITEM?? like i feel that penelope would have a pillow pet and maybe emily a piece of clothing from her parents, derek a football jersey or something but then they find out that spencer doesn’t have one since he didn’t have the best upbringing and so they buy him like one of those blanket animals that kids always have and he grows super attached to it and it’s the first time they’ve ever seen him truly act like a kid
THIS IS AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT QUESTION
David had a monogrammed blanket that he eventually outgrew when he was about eight (really, twelve)
James had a toy truck. Like a Tonka truck. he was constantly bonking himself in the face with it in his sleep. He outgrew it when he was about six (but it still had to stay on his nightstand where he could see it)
Alex had a cuddly doll that she got before she was born. She definitely brought it to school with her
One of Hotch’s pillows is the important pillow. He will not tell them which one. Ergo, no one is allowed to touch any of his pillows.
Emily has what used to be a blanket. it’s now roughly 9″ by 16″ and at least three different maids accidentally threw it out in the past five years. it’s hidden inside a pillowcase.
Derek has one of his dad’s old PD sweatshirts. He is absolutely not embarrassed by this and flat out informs people he can’t sleep with it. sometimes he wears it when he’s sad, but instead of being to big, it’s starting to actually fit him
JJ just grew out of her American Girl doll phase, except not really, so she brought Kirsten to school with her. (She left Samantha and Felicity behind, though)
Penelope has a precise combination of pillow pets and stuffed animals and one extremely important beanie baby. They line up on the side of her bed in a specific order and each one has a name.
Spencer has never had a comfort item. However, Derek has a whole bunch of blankets in their dorm room that he never reaches for, and one of them is incredibly soft and ginormous, so at first Derek just lets him borrow it for movie nights, but then he let him borrow it during a particularly bad thunderstorm, and then....somehow it was no longer Derek’s blanket, it was Spencer’s blankie, and no one ever refers to it as such, especially not him, but he can’t sleep without it. He sleeps hugging it to his chest.

I saw @anamericangirlslife post how they got each of their dolls so i thought I would too!
Felicity: my mother came home one day with sole felicity books from our local hallmark store. I had my dad read them to me until I could on my own, since i was around 5 or 6. Christmas of 2005 I unwrapped her and may have blacked out for a second I was so thrilled! I hadn't even asked for her!
Kit: My first trip to the american girl store in 2006 I had $50 given generously to spend by my grandparents. It was the old Chicago one, which was three stories tall with a large room completely devoted to the historicals so naturally I took my time soaking it all in! I admired the Kit display for a long time, knowing I was asking santa for her that year. When I was a child my mother insisted on me keeping my hair very short for ease of care, and though I disliked the cut I really connected with this character with my blue eyes and bobbed hairstyle. We were in the elevator to leave and mom looked at me and asked "you really want that doll, dont you?" I nodded and she pressed the button to go back to her floor. She covered the rest of the cost! (I think at that time dolls were $85 without accessories)
Molly: I fell into the hype! She had a movie being released and a bunch of new things for her collection during the holiday season of 2006. I asked for both her and Emily in their best friend set for Christmas, but after overhearing my mother telling one of her friends about my financially-burdening wish, I opted for the main girl! With her Miss Victory outfit OF COURSE
Julie: I received her release catalog October of 2007 during a family gathering at my grandparents and I actually SCREAMED. I was a beatles-loving, basketball-playing kid with parents who were both Julie's age in the 70s. I unwrapped her Christmas day that year, and any Julie item that came into my possession over the years my parents usually had a comment over how they owned nearly the exact same thing
Samantha: Christmas 2008, the year of her retirement. I was a lifelong Nellie fan (largely in part she looked even more like me than Kit) and had asked for her, but my grandmother got her confused with Samantha. No complaints then and still none now!
Kaya: my first visit to the water tower place ag store I couldnt decide what to get for a very long time (I actually ended up crying lol. And leaving with Julie's room accessories and basketball outfit so I figured it out) but I kept being drawn to Kayas display. I had her six book set and mini doll from a Sam's club set, so I had read all of her books and grown to love her character and collection. I asked my parents if they could chip in and cover for her, but their denial turned into them telling my grandfather and she became a part of my Christmas tradition that year!
Edith: family spring break in 2011, I was in 6th grade. I actually had closer to $90 this time around, but after getting a couple of inexpensive things at AG place and finding nothing else in the city of chicago that I liked, my mother privately told me that she would be more than happy to take a morning trip to american girl with just us two to pick out a doll. I had kanani, a girl of the year that I really wanted (without need for explanation of course!) And JLY #28 in my hands. Ever since 28 came out I was slightly obsessed with her, she was very popularly used in the catalogs and I would base the protagonist of my own stories (cough cough ag fanfics basically) around her. I had to go with her, and after contemplating which of the many character names I had for her to pick from I went with Edith after my favorite character from All in the Family, which was my favorite show!
Isabelle was a total surprise but a cute one. I was 16 and my grandmother told me that my next gift was very special. I unwrapped Isabelle, after not requesting a doll in years! I have a strange first name, so we knew ag would likely never have a doll with my name, but when she received a catalog with a doll bearing my middle name AND was a ballerina (I'm currently experiencing my first semester off from dance since I was three years old this very moment) she knew she HAD to get her! I did rename her Linda Isabelle, so we would instead be middle name twins since I'm not a huge fan of it. Linda because she resemble Linda McCartney who I love, but also because a woman who worked at my dance studio growing up was named Linda, and she sadly passed away when I was in elementary school.
I'd love to read some of you guys's stories! Sorry this was long

The felicity american girl movie is so wild???
Shailene woodley??????
There are like 20 plot points and all of them happen super quickly and casually. Seriously either nothing is happening at all or something dire does and its given all of a few seconds before things go back to nothing happening
"Lemme just steal this dudes horse"
"FUCK that guy"
INNATE CONNECTION WITH THE HORSE
About ten minutes of title character just ranting about breeches
The little sister is the most pretentious, prim, dramatic goblin of a 6 year old.
The politics of the American revolution boiled down to ppl who like tea and ppl who are like fuck tea
Theres about 20 minutes of tea and dances lessons intersperse and tbh I live for them
Also??? Casually ignoring slavery????? While title character visits her grandfather at a whole ass plantation?????
Said grandpa coughs one scene and then the next cut is the family at a FUNERAL, they really wasted no time
All problems, including Patriots jailing loyalists can be solved if you ask the adults to talk to one another
Also Surprise Return of the Innately connected horse. Shes preggoo
Very quickly the mom almost dies
SURPRISE shes better and she made a dress so the daughter can go to the ball
After the ball the horse gives birth, they get the guy who they stole the horse from to assist with the birth
Realizing the million times I watched this fever dream of a movie as a kid absolutely nothing stuck except how to refuse tea politely
The level of costume and set design far outstrips the writing and editing.

Quarantine NOT Anime Reviews!
So obviously I’ve been watching a lot of anime but I’ve ALSO been watching a lot of live action stuff, mostly on Netflix with my mom and sister. So here’s some reviews of stuff we’ve seen.
Everything’s Gonna Be Okay (on Freeform/Hulu): Fucking hilarious and has some of the best, realest autistic characters I’ve ever seen. If it doesn’t get renewed I’ll be fucking pissed.
Motherland: Fort Salem (on Freeform/Hulu): this one’s not done airing yet but I am already a full fan! What if there really were witches in Salem, and they made a deal to work in the United States military? This leads us to a world where the American military, and subsequently most militaries, are witch-based, but some witches aren’t exactly hot on the idea that their bodies are basically state property from the time they turn 18, and as such have created a terrorist group known as the Spree to fight this. Our heroines are three young witches who have answered the call: Abigail Bellweather, the descendant of a long line of powerful and decorated witch soldiers who is determined to prove her own ability; Tally Craven, the optimistic, wide-eyed descendant of a dying line exempt from the draft who answers the call anyway out of a genuine desire to help others; and Raelle Collar, who is dealing with her grief over the fairly recent death of her mother, a prominent military healer, but starts to warm up to fellow recruit Scylla Ramshorn, the daughter of conscientious objectors who hides a dark secret: she is a member of the Spree. You can tell a lot of thought was put into the world and the alternate history (the show even has its own conlang), the magic system is unique and interesting, and I’m super invested in the characters and their relationships. I really hope this one gets renewed as well, as the creator has said he’s got enough ideas for four or five seasons at least, and I’m really interested in how they’ll play out!
The Half of It (movie, Netflix): You’ve probably already heard about this Love, Simon-esque story of a Chinese-American girl finding herself and her sexuality in a rural town while trying to act as wingman for a dumb but kind and lovable jock, and I can’t recommend it enough. It’s a single film and you DEFINITELY have the time, so give it a watch.
Never Have I Ever (Netflix): ohhhhhhhhhhhh my god y’all have GOTTA give this one a watch! It is one of the funniest fucking things I’ve seen in AGES! The story of a desperately awkward Indian-American teen dealing with grief over the death of her father while trying to become cool and get laid somehow provides all the laughs you need right now, and some feels as well. My sister and I both CANNOT decide if we want Devi to end up with Ben or Paxton, because they’re both very flawed people, but also good and they clearly both really like and care about Devi! I cannot WAIT for the hopefully inevitable season 2!
Sex Education (Netflix): Holy shit this show. Asa Butterfield’s mom, Agent Scully, is a well-known sex therapist, and this (as well as other things) has led him to simultaneously have a plethora of knowledge about sex while having a weird relationship with it personally. After he ends up giving good advice to the school bully regarding performance issues, he and the trailer caravan trash school slut Maeve decide to open up their own secret sex therapy clinic to give advice to the student body. The show tackles nearly every sex and relationship related subject one could imagine, from gay kids uncertain about how to go about it to vaginismus to asexuality to realizing you’re pan or bi to sexual assault, all with a central theme of the importance of open and honest communication. It also touches on other aspects of life like race, religion, class, drugs, abusive families, divorce, disability, the whole gamut. I’m eagerly awaiting the confirmed but definitely postponed production of season 3 and I’m curious to see what else the show will touch on as it goes.
Outer Banks (Netflix): A show that could, in some senses, be described as “what if Riverdale was actually GOOD?” Set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, we follow a group of poor teens (Pogues) and their struggles against the rich kids of a neighboring island (Kooks) as the Pogues try to find a lost treasure of a fuckton of gold with the help of one good Kook. In most ways it’s a typical teen drama with 25 year olds saying they’re 16 and silly relationship drama and little subtlety, but the central mystery really ties it all together and the second half is actually nail-bitingly intense as things go from treasure hunt mystery to "oh shit I’ve been framed for murder and the cops are all after me” and the season ends setting up for more, so I really hope Netflix chooses to renew because I HAVE to know what happens to all our heroes after this!
Felicity: Felicity is an ancient show created by JJ Abrams?????? about a boring girl who moves to New York to go to college and find herself and shit. My mom is making me and my sister watch it because it is one of her favorites of all time and I am just not digging it. We are watching it on DVD so I don’t know where it’s streaming but also I don’t care because I don’t really recommend it.
Expect more reviews as I watch more stuff!

What are your favorite podcasts? Do you know of any American Girl podcasts?
There is an American Girl-themed podcast out there, but I can’t recommend it. It’s extremely critical of the books and the dolls for what I feel isn’t any good reason except for the prestige of being cynical about something nice and harmless that a lot of kids loved and still love. The discussion of Felicity’s books was disappointing. To hear them drag a nine-year-old child so hard for making understandable mistakes and for being who she is, was rough. And there were moments where I felt like the discussion was shockingly misogynistic. For that reason I don’t even want to hear their read-through of Josefina’s books, or anyone else’s. I’d be deeply hurt if they’re reading them just to find things and characters to hate on.
I’m not really even sure who that podcast is even for? People who like the books are going to disagree with the critical tone, and people who don’t like the books aren’t going to care enough to want to listen. But I feel like it’s sort of The Thing nowadays to “ruin your childhood” by hating on stuff that people enjoyed as kids (and which are often primarily or traditionally enjoyed by women and girls). This is highly gross since it implies that there is only a small range of “acceptable” media to like. You’re only allowed to like certain movies, certain music, certain books, and if you criticize those interests, then you’re just an ignorant stick in the mud who lives under a rock, I guess? So I feel like that podcast is coming from that sort of place, and I don’t like that sort of negativity, of hating others for having unique interests.
But you can search for it and make up your own mind. And if you aren’t interested in that and want some other good podcasts to listen to, some of my favorites are Criminal, I Survivor, This is Actually Happening, Welcome to Night Vale, Terrible Thanks for Asking, Home of the Brave, Radiolab, Says You!, Within the Wires, and This American Life.

BACKGROUND & FAMILY DYNAMICS
if you grew up in north america, you have probably heard of the burgess family. hell, even if you didn’t grow up in america, you have probably heard of the burgess family.
though they pride themselves on “small town family values” and “keeping the business in the family,” the burgess family has no intention of actually relating to small town america, to trusted catholic traditions, to family run businesses.
true, the leaders of the multibillion dollar media conglomerate known as VVIO are all close friends of the family, if not actually family members, but that’s about where the similarities between the burgesses and middle class america end.
Vvio is one of the largest media conglomerates in north america. think similar to cbs/viacom, they have news, movies, television, late night shows, streaming platforms ! whew..
their father, laurent burgess, known better as laurence in an attempt to americanize himself after emigrating from france in the 1960′s, is the ceo and mastermind behind Vvio. coming from a poor family from the outskirts of paris, laurence moved to america’s real capital — new york city, not dc — with big dreams and even bigger ambitions.
in the grand scheme of things, Vvio grew into the multibillion dollar corporation that it is today rather quickly. by the time laurence was in his early 30′s, he was a millionaire. at that point, he was married to a woman he’d known in france, his “first love,” who he’d flown out from their small town to be with him in new york at the first signs of success.
he was a multi millionaire, a drug addict, an alcoholic, a serial cheater. he fell in love with a young french model in the 80′s, and is having an affair for an entire year before his wife finds out. though they try to reconcile, they ultimately end up getting a divorce, and he marries the french model not even a year later.
that french model was jacqueline black, felicity’s mother. they would be married for nineteen years before ultimately getting a divorce, which both can be blamed for, but it was mostly laurence and his inability to stay faithful or sober
the burgesses grew up in fairfield, ct. each of the siblings attended private school in the city, a near two hour commute each way for the best education possible.
THE SIBLINGS: growing up, everyone was constantly fighting for the attention of their father. the eldest son, ambrose was “the fuck up,” but he’s a rich fuck up, so did it really matter? very george bush-esque — always drunk, doing coke, fucking prostitutes, but did he still get into harvard with no merits because of his last name? you bet. emile was their father’s pride and joy. which wasn’t necessarily a good thing, when all his siblings had daggers in their eyes thinking that he was just as much a fuck up as ambrose. it was true, fortune favors the fuck ups. felicity’s other older brother (wc!!) would be the obvious choice to take over. sure, he can be wild, reckless, and impulsive — but he’s intelligent, fiercely competitive, and a people person through and through. everybody loves him. except for their father, who seems not to notice all the areas in which he excels. felicity is “daddy’s little girl” which was nice as a kid, she was favored and loved and one of the few children in which he shows affection toward — but it quickly grew old as she grew up. intelligent and well rounded, never one to drunkenly throw herself off a bridge like her, or snort so much cocaine they can’t move their legs, or get in a car accident that needs covering up like her brothers. but no matter what, she was the little girl. kept away from the business and the politics, a fragile mind like hers couldn’t “handle it.” she spends so much time trying to prove herself again and again to her father, that she was just as intelligent and capable as her brothers, only to churn out the same goddamn result. her relationship with her step sister (wc!!) isn’t a great one, seeing as they are the same age, and have been in competition with one another since they became sisters at thirteen. but she has it lucky — she will never feel the need to fight for laurence’s attention.
PERSONALITY
when felicity was three years old she wondered into the section of the house her father forbade the kids from going. included in that section was his library — an enormous room with high ceilings, covered ceiling to floor with bookshelves, lined with all sorts of books from academic papers to novels, first edition to signed copies, etc. she fell in love, and when her father found her in there, he decided to let her explore, expand her horizons instead of punishing her for breaking the rules (which probably would have happened had it been one of her brothers, rather than her)
it was the start of her love for all things language arts & literature. her father saw it early on, deciding to hone in on the skill, he allowed and encouraged her to pick one book from his library each week. while the jacqueline spoke to all their kids in french, laurence also decided it was best to hire tutors for felicity, who clearly had a knack for languages, and encouraged her to learn some of the world’s most important languages, as well as choose ones that she would like to learn based on interest alone (like greek, for example)
felicity is an academic through and through. not only does it come naturally to her, but she enjoys learning. unlike her brothers, going out and getting fucked up all weekend isn’t her idea of fun. she’s much more straight edge — enjoys sophisticated dinner parties with a glass of wine. if she’s hanging out with “the boys,” she’ll have a glass of scotch. she never drinks in excess, always seems very collected and poised, and is the first to call out her siblings for acting idiotically. not that they care, there never seems to be any repercussions in the burgess family, not legally at least — though their father’s disappointment tends to be one of the worst consequences imaginable.
picking a weekly book from her father’s library continued until she moved to attend leopold university at eighteen. when she was thirteen, she came across a book on astrology, and was completely enamored by it. of course, she’d learned about zodiacs before, but never in depth, and it became a new project for her, learning everything about the signs and birth charts, planets and placements. by fourteen she was discovering her entire family’s birth charts, seeing how they each fit in and played a part. with one another. this eventually lead to other spiritual activities, such as tarot cards, which is now one of her biggest passions. she has a collection of different decks, but her favorite remains as the deck she’d bought for herself at seventeen, from a vintage, spiritual and healing store in the east village of new york.
emile was the first of the burgess siblings to be accepted to leopold and handpicked by professor ellison, so that when felicity and the others decided to attend, he’d already had the burgesses on his radar. one of the most powerful families in north america, and even the world, it was no wonder that ellison had taken an interest in them. since joining the classics course last year, felicity has formed quite a special bond with their professor. her knack and knowledge of multiple languages has piqued his interest, and they often sit together in his office and discuss works of different origins and translations and compare the literatures together. professor ellison has been helping her in her quest to learn greek and also arabic, which so far she has almost mastered reading, but still needs to work on speaking.
kind of has major daddy issues, thanks to spending her whole life competing for her father’s validation, which is where her strive for professor ellison’s validation comes from. she really seeks for his approval and favoritism, because it’s his validation that soothes the open wound that her father could never seem to fill with his empty promises and lack of approval
RANDOM HCS/TIDBITS
has a big, fat orange cat named henri
drinks 3-4 cups of coffee every day, along with 2-3 cups of tea
has never received a grade lower than 97%
wears a lot of gold jewelry, especially gold rings
wants to be a novelist, and yet hasn’t even started working on her first novel. does have a few published short stories and poems, though.
has an entire drawer in her apartment full of crystals for different days, moods, seasons, health issues, etc.
parisian girl at heart, spent many summer and winter vacations in paris and it’s her favorite place in the entire world. yes, she romanticizes the fuck out of it
that being said, she romanticizes the fuck out of everything and everyone. perhaps it has something to do with being a writer and a poet. you’re always sad and in love with something.
WANTED CONNECTIONS
siblings! she has an older brother (21-22) and a step sister (18-22) that would work for this group! if you’d be interested in being a part of the burgess fam (the step sister would obviously have a different last name) then hmu
cousins!!! this family is VERY family-centric, the whole company they own is family-centric, so even if they’re not actually close, they’re close. if that makes sense. this could be a cousin from his first marriage or second marriage (if through the mother’s side), or a cousin from the dad’s side in which case might cause some ~drama~ because felicity’s dad definitely slighted his siblings and doesn’t really talk to any of them (which would be that muse’s parents)
best friend: felicity spent most her life surrounded by boys (she’s the only daughter, minus her newer step sister), and has always found it easier to get along with them. so, mostly, she’s friends with boys, but i imagine her BEST best friend, the one she shares all her secrets with and really lets in, is a girl.
close circle: effie is a capricorn which means she doesn’t let just anyone in. she’s never really liked the idea of having a lot of friends. a few, very close friends has always been the smarter decision in her mind. that way you don’t lose track of who you should and shouldn’t trust. and if someone misplaces your trust, you know exactly who to cut off. where their loyalties lie. anyway, like i said, she tends to mostly be friends with boys, just because it’s what she’s used to, and finds herself being fiercely competitive with most other girls, so this would be mostly made up of guys! with maybe an exception.
roommate: could possibly be looped in with best friend / close circle, but i imagine they have a quaint, historical, and beautiful two bedroom apartment off campus.
rival: if i get her step sister wc, that would be this, but if not, just someone in which a rivalry has sparked up since they both joined the classics course. perhaps they are both striving to be the professor’s favorite or something IDK
toxic, on-and-off rs: this could be m/f/nb since effie is biromantic/bisexual, but basically the two are just not right for each other. it’s equally toxic on both ends. on felicity’s end, she tends to be controlling and jealous, and very much a know-it-all that can often be hard to deal with. probably an rs that won’t last anyway because they truly are not meant to be but also it’s nice to see where the chemistry goes anyway lmao
bad influence: effie is v straight edge so someone get her dunk !!! she tends to pass on most parties unless it’s like #dinnerparty so like i need a connection that drags her ass out to everything she says no to

BIOGRAPHY.
TRIGGER WARNINGS: disappearance of a family member, depression, death, car accident. DISCLAIMER: this biography was written for the group rp southouboundhq, but is mostly applicable to all verses.
josphine ryan is born the second of four to darby and felicity ryan on the hottest day in july. like her elder sister, she doesn’t have hardly more than a pale, peach fuzz or a gentle platinum swoop atop her head until the age of three. unlike her sister, joey hardly cries–even as a newborn–and never without reason. when heather learned to speak, she tried out every word, every syllable on her tongue–an intrepid speaker. joey takes her time and uses words deliberately, going from nothing to full sentences. the two girls are five years apart, but heather has been practicing this with her baby dolls for years. far apart in age, there are no closer sisters in villas adobes. as she grows older, joey thinks that, surely, there are no closer sisters in the world. it doesn’t change when the twins, katherine and edmund are born another four years later.
three girls and a boy, the ryan household is a bustling one. the kids all look after one another, getting along as well as parents can hope. heather and joey; katie and edmund. it’s just like that. it’s always like that. darby is a prestigious lawyer and they kids grow up hearing the tales of his life as a district attorney in seattle. one night, when the twins are asleep, heather asks him why he left seattle–why he left the job he loved so much. darby ryan racks his brain. he can’t remember. no matter how many times he’s asked the question, he can never remember.
one day, near the end of september, darby ryan walked out into the desert. he walked out into the desert and it was the most normal thing of all. he walked straight down silver mine road and felicity says that even one of the dominellis, or someone else over there near the funeral home, saw him walking down there and tried to wave and say hello, but he wouldn’t give them the time of day–didn’t even look them in their eyes. the cicadas sang their symphony to the desert night while darby ryan walked straight down that road , normal as can be, and he never came back.
the impact of grief affects her mother profoundly–how can you put a wandering spirit to rest?–but between the five of them, they make do. heather and joey, as the eldest girls, make sure the younger ones are looked after while felicity works two jobs. even after heather is on her own and starting her own family, she makes sure her siblings are taken care of. she fixes the lunches for the younger ones and trades out babysitting shifts with joey when she needs some solitude for homework or a trip to drive-in with margie and the girls.
joey is nearly seventeen when heather and her boyfriend die in the wreck that leaves joey with a broken arm and a small laceration to her forehead. hit by a drunk driver, joey’s niece and nephew are orphaned in one tragic accident. if her mother had been distant following her father’s disappearance, she is beside herself over the loss of her eldest daughter. within a year, felicity has lost both her job as a dental hygienist at old main street and as a waitress at the turquoise star diner. she rarely leaves her bed, let alone the house except to scrounge up enough cash for a trip to the liquor store. everything falls on the narrow shoulders of the eldest remaining daughter. still a girl herself, joey is hardly eligible for custody of her siblings and heather’s kids. on top of raising four kids, she makes efforts to maintain her mother’s image–only absent in public out of dedication to being a stay-at-home mother. the social security payments aren’t enough and joey starts working through high school. still a girl herself, she watches her sister and her dreams die in that same year.
she would’ve been a writer. some clever girl who’d spin words onto paper like she wraps blonde curls around her finger. outside this wretched place–a true boot hill, her family plot–she would have found adventures and peculiarities worth writing about. in boot hill, joey ryan finds only tedium and loss; boredom and death. history loves repeating itself like a chorus, or the nightly siren song of the cicadas, and the high school grad takes a waiting job at the same diner her mother was let go from. it paralyzes joey from making new connections; she tears up every phone number written on the back of some credit card receipt left on the table of the diner’s booths. she’s already raising four kids and her mom, most days, as well. she can’t afford a dream or a family of her own.
with the twins now in their senior year of high school, joey knows that they will move on–searching for their own lives, moving out to rent an apartment with a best friend, a lover. there are heather’s kids, seven and nine, and her mother that need looking after, and yet she feels more freedom now than she has had in the last six years. maybe someday she can get out of this place–even if it means leaving her loved ones behind. maybe someday she’ll walk out onto silver mine road, normal as can be, while the cicadas sing. she’ll walk right down that road like it’s the most normal thing in the world. she’ll pass right by a dominelli or maybe a close friend without a word or even a polite nod. maybe she’ll finally hear the cries of the amen shrieker. maybe she’ll hear nothing at all.

BIOGRAPHY. ( tw death, alcoholism )
josphine ryan is born the second of four to darby and felicity ryan on the hottest day in july, 1960. darby ryan dies on her tenth birthday in a fishing accident while working in alaska and his body is never recovered. his salty grave is too far away to feel real; too far away to place flowers at and mourn. the impact of grief affects her mother profoundly, but between the five of them, they make do. heather and joey, as the eldest girls, make sure the younger ones are looked after while felicity works two jobs. even after heather is on her own and starting her own family, she makes sure her siblings are taken care of.
joey is nearly seventeen when heather and her boyfriend die in the wreck that leaves joey with a broken arm and a small laceration to her forehead. hit by a drunk driver, joey’s niece and nephew had been orphaned in one tragic accident. if her mother had been distant following her father’s death, she was beside herself over the loss of her eldest daughter. within a year, felicity had lost both jobs and rarely left the house except to scrounge up enough cash for a trip to the liquor store. everything fell on the narrow shoulders of the eldest remaining daughter that had dreamed of a life outside of small-town corvallis.
instead of following her dreams of film school, joey graduated early and started working two waitressing jobs. there was a small settlement and some government stipend for the kids, but at eighteen she was hardly seen as fit to be granted full custody of her siblings, niece and nephew. on top of raising the four kids, she made efforts to maintain the image that her mother was a charming stay at home mom that was only absent in public--so stalwart in her dedication to staying home for her children.
by the time katherine and edmund were able to help out more, felicity had enrolled in aa and was taking steps to become a guiding presence in the kids’ lives again. as much as it released the pressure on her, there was a bitterness joey could not salve. after all this time, felicity ryan could return to reality--image virtually untarnished--and be forgiven as easily as children can forgive. knowing she was unable to keep from screaming into her pillow each night while felicity insisted on chaperoning the younger kids to practices and events, joey finally accepted that she had--for the first time in her life--the opportunity to leave.
though things would, perhaps, always be precarious and toxic between joey and her mother, there was love and understanding. felicity gave joey her blessing ( provided she call once a week ) and her father’s old 1970 honda scrambler. it was a long ride before she found herself in new york city, waiting tables again and hoping to find something bigger than herself to fall in love with. there was so much more to see in this big city than back home and joey basked in it all.
after a recommendation from a friend, joey ended up catching a few shows at veto and fell in love with the anger and passion. still a girl who would rather swallow her own screams than let them bear fruit--the catharsis of the pit, the vocals, and the camaraderie made her feel more at home than she’d even felt changing diapers and packing lunches alone. she’s lived in the pit for about seven months and is torn between the fear of losing a place she finally feels herself in and the worry that she hasn’t been there long enough to have a right to grieve ziggy.
#punk:intro#bio#( i've finished joey's but maite's will have to wait for another day bc i'm tired and i have to go to the gym and work )

History presents 'Fight the Power'; 'Us' on 'Masterpiece' | Arts & Entertainment
NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar hosts and co-produced “Fight the Power: The Movements That Changed America” (7 p.m. Saturday, History, TV-PG). This one-hour survey offers a brisk glance at protest movements, from the Labor Rights struggled between the 1880s and the 1930s; the battle to give women the vote; the modern Civil Rights movement that emerged from the Montgomery, Ala., bus protests and the murder of Emmett Till; the fight for gay recognition and rights in the post-Stonewall era; and the recent uprisings protesting police violence against men and women of color. Each of these historical currents could fill a documentary of its own, if not miniseries treatment.
A fascinating figure who defies category, Jabbar was a perennial All-Star during his playing days with the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers. At the same time, he studied martial arts with Bruce Lee. In his retirement, he has emerged as what used to be known as a “public intellectual,” a writer and spokesperson unaffiliated with academia who has been vocal in his support of social justice movements. He’s also a widely published author. Similar to many famous people, he has written his memoirs but also has co-written several ruminations on Sherlock Holmes and World War II.
“Fight the Power” is one among many commemorations of Juneteenth, recalling June 19, 1865, when Black residents of Galveston, Texas, were informed of the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. History will repeat “Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre” (8 p.m., Saturday, TV-14). Other notable cable offerings include “12 Years a Slave” (6 p.m. Saturday, Sundance, TV-14) and “Selma” (7 p.m., FXM, TV-14). CBS will air “Selma” (7 p.m., Sunday) as well, its network broadcast debut.
• Nothing quite announces a couple’s comfortable semi-retirement like a European tour. Unless, of course, you’re on the verge of splitting up and have a miserable teenage son tagging along.
That’s the gist of “Us,” a “Masterpiece” (8 p.m., Sunday, PBS, TV-14) presentation based on a novel by David Nicholls.
Douglas (Tom Hollander, “The Night Manager”) awakens one morning to his wife, Connie’s (Saskia Reeve, “Luther”), announcement she wants a change. Not a divorce as much as a separation. With their moody son, Albie (Tom Taylor), about to enter university, she thinks “their work is done” and can’t face the prospect of empty nesting with a man who can’t communicate.
Or so she says. This bombshell coincides with their long-planned grand tour of continental capitals, an expensive one at that. Douglas insists they call it off, but Connie persuades him it might offer one last chance for him to bond with his sullen offspring.
So, don’t go expecting an amusing travelogue similar to “The Trip” franchise with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon. The spirit here is more akin to “Two for the Road,” the wistful 1967 anti-romance starring Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney.
Happily, it’s about this time “Us” offers prolonged flashbacks to the first encounters of young Douglas and Connie (Iain De Caestecker and Gina Bramhill), when he was a socially awkward biochemist and she a budding artist surrounded by a gaggle of pretentious friends.
Both the grand tour and the misty reminiscences unfold with a great deal of walking and talking, not unlike the charming and highly chatty 1995 Richard Linklater romance “Before Sunrise,” starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. At its best, and perhaps its most obvious, “Us,” suggests this long wander is about to enter a new juncture.
It’s a bit of a shame “Masterpiece” should offer this series during two Sundays in two-hour dollops. Sixty minutes of this talky and often heartbreaking story is more than enough in one sitting. Who tunes in to British TV to listen to characters talk about their feelings?
SATURDAY’S HIGHLIGHTS
• 2021 U.S. Open golf championship (6 p.m., NBC).

— OK, that was weird. The least expected story of the week was the scandal involving Felicity Huffman (“Desperate Housewives”) and Lori Loughlin, star of “When Calls the Heart” (7 p.m. Sunday, Hallmark, TV-G), in a bribery/cheating plot to get their respective daughters into elite universities.
This is obviously an ongoing case, and all sides must have their say, or day, in court. But the motivation at the center of this story is worth discussing. It involves some overwhelming need to do anything to get children into elite schools. As if anything “lesser” were unthinkable.
Television plays no small role in this insecurity. I can’t remember how many times I’ve had to describe an ABC legal drama where every single character hails from only the most exclusive Ivy and spends most of the pilot bragging about it.
There was a time, not that long ago, when John Grisham wrote best-selling books about young, barely accredited lawyers from no-name institutions who took on impossible cases against massive corporations and eventually won. And got the girl, to boot.
So, our current era’s neurotic obsession with elitism and inequality is hardly hard-wired.
If anything comes of this sordid affair, it’s an appreciation that shoddy efforts at snobbery are always essentially pathetic. Or on classic TV, comedic. Watching “Gilligan’s Island,” we identified with Mary Ann and the Skipper, and pitied the millionaire and his wife.
— CNN launches the four-hour documentary “Tricky Dick” (8 p.m., Sunday), profiling the life and times of Richard Nixon’s public career, which spanned the decades from the dawn of the Cold War to the Clinton years.
SATURDAY’S HIGHLIGHTS
— An anxious new mother joins a group for solidarity and support, only to discover that it has darker plans on its agenda in the 2019 shocker “Mommy Group Murder” (7 p.m., Lifetime, TV-14).
— The Thunder and Warriors meet in NBA action (7:30 p.m., ABC).
— An old kidnapper returns to form on “Ransom” (8 p.m., CBS, TV-14).
SUNDAY’S HIGHLIGHTS
— Scheduled on “60 Minutes” (6 p.m., CBS): Embassy workers in China and Cuba complain of mysterious ailments; AOL founder Steve Case and his plans to invest in the future of overlooked American small towns and cities; a visit to Monaco.
— The duels begin on “World of Dance” (7 p.m., NBC, TV-PG).
— Auditions continue on “American Idol” (7 p.m., ABC, TV-PG).
— Lex Luthor is on the loose on “Supergirl” (7 p.m., CW, TV-PG).
— Mr. Wednesday prepares for battle on “American Gods” (7 p.m., Starz, TV-MA).
— After learning about her royal lineage, an adopted 10-year-old becomes a little tyrant in the 2019 shocker “Mommy’s Little Princess” (7 p.m., Lifetime, TV-14).
— A secret room holds dangers on “Charmed” (8 p.m., CW, TV-14).
— Hidden secrets revealed on “The Walking Dead” (8 p.m., AMC, TV-MA).
— A new trial is pursued on “The Case Against Adnan Syed” (8 p.m., HBO, TV-14).
— Axe is determined to destroy Taylor on the fourth season premiere of “Billions” (8 p.m., Showtime, TV-MA).
— Ulysses pursues a conspiracy theory on “Now Apocalypse” (8 p.m., Starz, TV-MA).
— “Unsung” (8 p.m., TVONE) profiles the Jets.
— Pacific overtures on “Madam Secretary” (9 p.m., CBS, TV-PG).
— Tensions rise on “Good Girls” (9 p.m., NBC, TV-14).
— Mo’s past is revealed on “Black Monday” (9 p.m., Showtime, TV-MA).
CULT CHOICE
— St. Patrick’s Day inspires many traditions. Syfy offers a marathon of “Leprechaun” movies, from “Leprechaun 5: In the Hood” (4 p.m. Saturday, TV-14) to “Leprechaun 2” (8 p.m.). TCM takes the traditional approach, ladling out the Technicolor blarney of director John Ford’s 1952 romance “The Quiet Man” (7 p.m. Sunday, TV-PG).
SATURDAY SERIES
“Dateline” (7 p.m., NBC, TV-PG) … “NBA Countdown” (7 p.m., ABC) … The kids are all right on “MasterChef” (8 p.m., Fox, r, TV-PG) … “48 Hours” (9 p.m., CBS) … A vintage helping of “Saturday Night Live” (9 p.m., NBC, r, TV-14).
SUNDAY SERIES

A walk down the aisle on “NCIS: Los Angeles” (8 p.m., CBS, TV-14) … On two episodes of “Family Guy” (Fox, TV-14), Meg’s winter Olympics (8 p.m.), fighting over a dowager (8:30 p.m., r) … Aches and pains on “Shark Tank” (9 p.m., ABC, TV-PG).

BIOGRAPHY,
trigger warnings: disappearance of a family member, depression, death, car accident
josphine ryan is born the second of four to darby and felicity ryan on the hottest day in july. like her elder sister, she doesn’t have hardly more than a pale, peach fuzz or a gentle platinum swoop atop her head until the age of three. unlike her sister, joey hardly cries–even as a newborn–and never without reason. when heather learned to speak, she tried out every word, every syllable on her tongue–an intrepid speaker. joey takes her time and uses words deliberately, going from nothing to full sentences. the two girls are five years apart, but heather has been practicing this with her baby dolls for years. far apart in age, there are no closer sisters in villas adobes. as she grows older, joey thinks that, surely, there are no closer sisters in the world. it doesn’t change when the twins, katherine and edmund are born another four years later.
three girls and a boy, the ryan household is a bustling one. the kids all look after one another, getting along as well as parents can hope. heather and joey; katie and edmund. it’s just like that. it’s always like that. darby is a prestigious lawyer and they kids grow up hearing the tales of his life as a district attorney in seattle. one night, when the twins are asleep, heather asks him why he left seattle–why he left the job he loved so much. darby ryan racks his brain. he can’t remember. no matter how many times he’s asked the question, he can never remember.
one day, near the end of september, darby ryan walked out into the desert. he walked out into the desert and it was the most normal thing of all. he walked straight down silver mine road and felicity says that even one of the dominellis, or someone else over there near the funeral home, saw him walking down there and tried to wave and say hello, but he wouldn’t give them the time of day–didn’t even look them in their eyes. the cicadas sang their symphony to the desert night while darby ryan walked straight down that road , normal as can be, and he never came back.
the impact of grief affects her mother profoundly–how can you put a wandering spirit to rest?–but between the five of them, they make do. heather and joey, as the eldest girls, make sure the younger ones are looked after while felicity works two jobs. even after heather is on her own and starting her own family, she makes sure her siblings are taken care of. she fixes the lunches for the younger ones and trades out babysitting shifts with joey when she needs some solitude for homework or a trip to drive-in with margie and the girls.
joey is nearly seventeen when heather and her boyfriend die in the wreck that leaves joey with a broken arm and a small laceration to her forehead. hit by a drunk driver, joey’s niece and nephew are orphaned in one tragic accident. if her mother had been distant following her father’s disappearance, she is beside herself over the loss of her eldest daughter. within a year, felicity has lost both her job as a dental hygienist at old main street and as a waitress at the turquoise star diner. she rarely leaves her bed, let alone the house except to scrounge up enough cash for a trip to the liquor store. everything falls on the narrow shoulders of the eldest remaining daughter. still a girl herself, joey is hardly eligible for custody of her siblings and heather’s kids. on top of raising four kids, she makes efforts to maintain her mother’s image–only absent in public out of dedication to being a stay-at-home mother. the social security payments aren’t enough and joey starts working through high school. still a girl herself, she watches her sister and her dreams die in that same year.
she would’ve been a writer. some clever girl who’d spin words onto paper like she wraps blonde curls around her finger. outside this wretched place–a true boot hill, her family plot–she would have found adventures and peculiarities worth writing about. in boot hill, joey ryan finds only tedium and loss; boredom and death. history loves repeating itself like a chorus, or the nightly siren song of the cicadas, and the high school grad takes a waiting job at the same diner her mother was let go from. it paralyzes joey from making new connections; she tears up every phone number written on the back of some credit card receipt left on the table of the diner’s booths. she’s already raising four kids and her mom, most days, as well. she can’t afford a dream or a family of her own.
with the twins now in their senior year of high school, joey knows that they will move on–searching for their own lives, moving out to rent an apartment with a best friend, a lover. there are heather’s kids, seven and nine, and her mother that need looking after, and yet she feels more freedom now than she has had in the last six years. maybe someday she can get out of this place–even if it means leaving her loved ones behind. maybe someday she’ll walk out onto silver mine road, normal as can be, while the cicadas sing. she’ll walk right down that road like it’s the most normal thing in the world. she’ll pass right by a dominelli or maybe a close friend without a word or even a polite nod. maybe she’ll finally hear the cries of the amen shrieker. maybe she’ll hear nothing at all.

Let me introduce myself -
Hello everyone, I'm super excited to join the world of tumblr. I wanted to take my first post to introduce myself, give you all an idea of who I am and what I'm going to be doing here. The hope is that you will enjoy and join in on the fun with me. 😉 Here goes! I feel like in this world we live in, today, we embrace the ways in which everyone puts themselves out there. We recognize the brilliance in taking risks, being loud, being uncomfortable, being fearless. I applaud all those things. Now, truth juice. I sucked at doing those things. My personality has always been to do my best, but not in a way that brings attention to myself. I've spent my life with these major fears (Aside from my fear of darkness), of letting people down, of failing, of being less than brilliant, of getting hurt, of owning my own spotlight and getting the proverbial hook/tomatoes/pie thrown at my face. I've played it safe. I've held back.... Deep breath... It's time to let that go and truly embrace who I am. Taking the leap. Putting myself out there. So, here's the deal. I'm a NorthWest American girl...well...woman. I grew up running in fields, and climbing trees, and keeping up with my big brothers. I also loved pretty dresses and dancing. I have a scar on my leg from climbing a tree in a dress. I listen to music ranging from old classic Sinatra and Gene Autry to hip hop, and through every decade from the doowops and temptations to todays country and pop. I'm a music nerd. And I watched the typical popular shows on the cw network but also jumped into star trek and star wars and oh my heavens I love action and scary movies. I literally have a third grade paper saying my favorite animals were horses, I like to dance, and my favorite movie is poltergeist... I also love sports. I was a cheerleader, but also enjoyed playing soccer, baseball, watching football, and running/jumping in track & field. This is the best way to show you that I'm literally that girl. The girly tomboy, sporty nerd...Total oxymoron of a human being. And this account will reflect that. To be more specific though...Here, on this account, I am embracing the side of me that likes to write. To share #Inspiration . To share my love of #Nature . To share my thoughts on #Life and #People and this crazy #World we live in (I know, I'm hashtagging). I'll be throwing in tidbits about my own life and my family and certain #Values I have and how I hang on to #Faith and #Hope and #Love . I'll share some #motivation in #fitness and #health . Mostly, I'll tell some stories. Made up stories. I personally love #Action and #Adventure , but I'm a girly girl too so there's #Romance and #Hearteyes too. And I can't leave out my nerdiness so there's gotta be #STEM and #Scifi too. I'm pretty excited to start writing all the things bouncing around in my head. Also, last but not least, I love to discuss my favorite TV show ( I'm in deep with #Arrow guys, I can't help myself, #OTA, #Olicity, and yes I want peace and fairness for #blackcanary / #blacksiren too). The show just finished season five and I have many many thoughts and opinions. And so many ideas on where I think the show is going. And, because I'm a nerd, and I have big dreams, I may wish I was in the writers room sometimes. Not to necessarily change anything, or dictate where the storylines go...I think the writers on the show are doing an incredible job overall (can't make everyone happy 100% of the time), I just want to rub shoulders with them and be part of all that magic they make. A girl can dream, and this will be my dream board. See, Over the years I have tucked away pieces of myself that didn't fit the mold of the Typical adult female. I became a shell. Basic. Bored as heck with myself, and depressed. But eventually, with the help of certain people coming in and out of my life, and events that I had to deal with, I cracked and rebelled against myself. I was pushed. And I pushed back. I pushed to reclaim who I am. Everything I listed above, I was still that person and she was deep in my soul and screaming to be free to express herself. And she did. I did. This is me. I am thankful to the friends that were exactly what I needed when I needed them. And I'm thankful to my husband for pushing me to keep growing as I reclaimed the woman he fell in love with and married. I am grateful for my faith which has kept me hopeful in this crazy but amazing world we live in. I am so proud and encouraged by my two sweet kids that mirror and magnify so much of myself I want to laugh and cry at the same time. My son, in particular, has embraced the typical phases that are boyhood, from trains and dinosaurs, race cars, then skylanders and Pokemon, and now superheros (Finally, something I can whole heartedly enjoy with him along with his science-nerd-side). He brought me to enjoy #TheFlash on cw network. which introduced me to the coolest fictional science nerds ever, Barry, Cisco, Caitlyn, and now Julien, along with my personal favorite fictional human being, Felicity Smoak, which is the reason I started watching Arrow, and now I'm a sucker for Oliver Queen and Olicity (total sucker. He reminds me of my husband, and she speaks to my nerd soul). I will write on this a lot, likely. My daughter is the free spirit that gets me dancing while I cook or clean, singing at the top of my lungs and climbing around like a monkey. I have the best kids ever. And, to my Superfriends. A group of amazing people I've met on twitter that fully encouraged me to embrace my story ideas and put them out for the world to see. Y'all are amazingly positive and I'm so glad I found you. Thank you for giving me the confidence to embrace the thoughts rolling around in my head. I hope I make you all proud. As do I hope to do with you, fellow tumblrs. If there are ever any topics in particular you want me to post about, I'd love to hear it. Please, don't hesitate to comment on my posts or send it in a message. I'm all eyes/ears for feedback and thoughts from others. That's one of the many things that make life so amazing! Cheers! First official #Arrow post coming soon!

Watching Knock Knock for the first time
Oh boy... *End of Time flashbacks* yes I am having a lot of flashbacks recently, but let’s hope this episode isn’t related to the infamous four knocks in any way
(Also I kept getting typos and writing “Kock kock” and that sounds so wrong in my opinion)
(The German title is “Klopf Klopf” and that sounds pretty funny too)
SPOILER ALERT!
-Tbh I’d love to live at any of those places
-DON’T TRUST THE GUY, MY MOVIE INSTINCTS ARE TELLING ME TO NOT TRUST THE GUY
-Ah yes, thunderstorms around an old building, totally not a scary movei cliche
-People still listen to LP records?
-That turned into a dubstep remix for a short moment
-Yay, it’s Bill’s theme.
-I love Bill’s theme. It’s relaxing but not slow, and merry, and adventurous...
-SHE’S USING THE TARDIS AS BAGGAGE TRANSPORT
-”Unless we’ve regenerated, or had a big lunch...” Rose: “Doctor, Doctor, wake up, please, we need you!” Ten: “mmmmfrrghf I ate too much”
-”Regenerated?” Twelve: *Vietnam flashbacks*
-The subtitles said ‘draughty’ when I heard ‘drafty’; I looked it up and apparently the latter’s usually the American way of spelling.
I remember him doing that before in another reincarnation, just not sure when.
-”He’s... my... granddad...” omfg Bill’s embarrased, I feel like Twelve would be offended but why do I find this so funny
-”I don’t look old enough to--” Well maybe you’re not that old by Time Lord standards but tbh you’re over 2000, you said so yourself
1. That face. 2. That moment when someone doesn’t high-five you back. 3. Apparently Bill’s told everyone about the Doctor, or maybe they’re just all in his class.
-”Oh, come on, father, at least, please.” “Oh alright, grandfather.” PFFFFT
-He is so gonna come back here later
-”Mine went greypacking on the Great Wall of China with his boyfriend, but they got arrested for trying to steal a bit.” That sentence sure is a wild ride.
-”Says it gETs HIM in the zOOOne.”
-”Yeah, I wish. Can’t find a way in.” Climb up the wall lol
-What kind of accent is this? Scottish? Northern?
IMMA THE FRESHEST FRESHY BOI THE EIGHTIES EVAH GAVE BIRTH TO YA DAWGS
:’D
-”You proud?” “Thanks.” D’aaaaaaawwww
-”There’s no living puddles or weird robots, big fish... It’s just a new house. And people you don’t know. Not scary at all.”
-BEWARE OF THE LANDLORD
-I have a bad feeling about what will happen to Bill’s mother’s picture
That makes a lot of sense though.
-I’m not saying bad reception will guarantee a mishap, but when it does happen you won’t be able to contact emergency numbers and call for help. That sounds bad.
-”Landline? What is this, Scotland?” You sure are lucky the Doctor ain’t here
-ooooOOOOOOHhhHHHHhhH
-”Or maybe a massive, freaky spider.” I’d prefer that much, much more to a cursed doll.
-And of course they HAVE to mess with the Asian just kidding JUST KIDDING I made fun of my math class friends with a paper cockroach once
-Even my teacher jumped
-But back to the episode.
-WHOP definitely not a mouse
-Why don’t you ALL go and check
-Yay, at least they’re sticking together.
HA told you he’d come back to investigate
-”Very interesting, lots of wood.” And the Sonic Screwdriver doesn’t work on wood.
-”For a man such as myself, discretion is second nature.” If by discretion you mean sneaking up on people and scaring the shit out of everyone
-I’m getting some Dracula vibes here
-Funny, I just looked up the actor and he played Van Helsing in a 2006 BBC adaptation of Dracula.
Thing is, he actually did that, in the past he WAS (and maybe still is) someone’s grandfather. He had to let Susan go.
The subtitles make everything better, 10/10
-I’m wearing headphones and that ASMR certainly was uncalled for
-”How do you get into the tower?” “You don’t.” (what he meant: if i ever catch one of your sorry little asses running into that fucking tower i will catch you and i will burn you fucking shitless you little shit nugget)
HARRIET JONES *flashbacking intensifies*
-He doesn’t know who the current Prime Minister is, VAMPIRE (OR SOME SORT OF OUTDATED SUPERNATURAL BEING OR ALIEN ALTHOUGH I’M LEANING TOWARDS ALIEN SINCE IT’S DOCTOR WHO) CONFIRMED
-”I take it back. you’re fine. He’s weird.” Of course the Doctor’s fine I mean he saves people, nothing else, haha
-DON’T GO UPSTAIRS
Yay!
-I’m about as happy as that girl there right now
-BILL TASTE IN MUSIC OMFG
look at the pouting owl
-”You’re not leaving, are you?” “No.”
-”We need to have a talk about your taste in music.”
-”Oh, this FREAKY SCOOBY DOO HOUSE!”
Boy who cried wolf and all, but I still think you should be concerned
-STOP KNOCKING
-*the Master is triggered from a whole another dimension*
You’ve had quite the crazy life, Doctor...
-I wonder if any of his students are making conspiracy theories, or just theories in general, about all the weird stuff he says, or does everyone pass it off as a joke?
-So did Felicity make it out or
-OH SHIT
-”I’m scared.” “Don’t be.” “Why not?” “It doesn’t help.”
WTF?!?!???
-Kinda reminds me of the ancient pirates stuck inside Davy Jone’s ship in PotC
-Also reminds me of that Steven Universe episode ‘Horror Club’. Although in that case it was a Gem Monster embedded in the building or something similar...
-Lemme guess, the house is alive?
-So was the music sort of Pavel’s connection to life
-”He’s released”
-RELEASED MY ASS IS YOUR HOUSE MADE UP OF DEAD PEOPLE YOU’RE FEEDING PEOPLE TO THE HOUSE AREN’T YOU
-PUSH THE BOOKCASE BILL
That was... unexpectedly cute.
Okay, slightly less cute, no offense but from afar you lot do look like cockroaches.
-”It’s not a cupboard!” When did he figure that out?
-”You’ve gone crazy.” ”Well I can’t just call them lice, can I?”
Now I’m getting Crimson Horror (Doctor Who series 7) vibes as well
-Y’know, with the crazy woman that blinded and locked up her daughter...
-Nice. Photo evidence.
HIDE!
-”Good.” Not what I wanted but eh I trust your judgment
Showcasing one of the trick staircases of Hogwarts
hOLY SHIT?? HE’S BEING EATEN ALIVE??!?
I feel like some character advancement has happened in the last couple of seasons, I mean, I’m not the best at figuring out personalities but I feel (again) like, say, Twelve from Series 8 would be getting really mad by now.
-”I haven’t had visitors in such a long time. My name is-” GROOT “-Eliza.” Oh.
I AM GROOT
-Look at me, making Groot jokes when a character just died onscreen.
-”Why would he pick up insects in the garden and bring them in to see his ill daughter?” Well I know I would. “Everyone loves insects.” Thank you.
-Well apart from mosquitoes, I’d still rather keep my blood and not get an itch, thank you very much.
He ended up calling them lice after all.
WELL I WAS EXPECTING A PLOT TWIST (thanks to some Tumblr posts) BUT NOT LIKE THIS
-THAT’S A FRESH LEHH OF A TWIST
-I MEAN HALL
-I MEAN HELL
-I APPRECIATE IT BUT
-I uh
-*crouches quietly in the corner* what about the bugs
Eliza the Licebender
-Why are there fireworks?
-Oh.
And another trauma to be added to Bill’s collection!
-YAY BILL’S FRIENDS GET TO LIVE!
Take-outs! He got take-outs!
-WHO THE FUCK IS PLAYING FUR ELISE
-WHO THE FUCK’S BEHIND THAT DOOR
-THERE’S GALLIFREYAN INSCRIPTIONS ON THE DOOR
-Ah, Pop Goes The Weasel. *fnaf memories* (yeah I know Scott didn’t make the song)
-It’s not really like the Doctor to keep someone locked up, and I’m seeing parallels between the old man in this episode and him... Too early?
-Soooooooo when are we gonna get to the Doctor’s suspicious basement... Lemme guess... the season finale?
-SHIT THE NEXT EPISODE LOOKS SCARY TOO
-WHAT IS THIS, A HORROR FEST?

Thanks to @justkeeponthegrass for tagging me :) sorry for taking forever to fill this out! I’ve barely been on here for the last week and life has been a little crazy
1. What is your favourite pizza? Um, is there an incorrect type of pizza? My first gut reaction is to say Hawaiian (I know, controversial) but there is no such thing as a bad pizza, really!
2. The last song that made you cry? “Burn,” from Hamilton. It gets me every time.
3. What is the most beautiful place you have ever visited? The Rocky Mountains, maybe? I’m a sucker for a mountain landscape.
4. Most romantic moment in a film? Okay this is stereotypical as hell and, to be honest, I’m not s huge fan of most of the movie, but in The Notebook how Noah would read Allie the story of how they fell in love over and over because she just might remember and and and... I just really like the idea of love growing old like that.
5. A literary character you looked up to as a child? One of my literary obsessions when I was a kid was the American Girl Doll series (probably where my original love of history came from, tbh) and I loved all of those girls a lot. Probably my favorite was Felicity Merriman, who was growing up in the American Revolution.
6. The Marvel Cinematic Universe or the DC Cinematic Universe? (Because I am evil.) Definitely Marvel.
7. Your ultimate celebrity crush? Oh, that’s hard... Obviously I’m on a Star Wars streak right now so I think I’m going to go with John Boyega (another part of my brain is screaming LIN MANUEL MIRANDA but then I remembered how adorable he and his wife are and I backed off)
8. Harry Potter or Star Wars? ( Again, because I am evil.) Oh, wow, um, can I take a cop out and say the fic I’m working on that is both Harry Potter and Star Wars?! But, really, at this point, I’d have to say Star Wars (though Harry Potter will always feel like coming home)
9. A ship you feel is under-appreciated? I’m not sure I have really any underappreciated ships, tbh.
10. What is the last amazing film you saw? I finally got around to seeing The Theory of Everything recently (Yes the fact that Felicity Jones is in it finally pushed me to go see it) and damn is that movie amazing. 10/10 would recommend.
11. What is the one quote from a film, a book or a song that best sum up how you’re feeling right now? “I think hell is something you carry around with you. Not somewhere you go.” -Neil Gaiman, The Sandman (wow that got depressing fast)
I’m just going to tag whoever wants to do this since I feel like I’m always tagging the same people in these things!
