us without me IV: new jeans
A story series from the perspective of Mia (fem!Reader/OC) as she goes through her memories and recounts falling in love with her best friend in high school, Minji. She suffers in silence until she breaks and it all comes crashing down.
Part 4 of 7. Check here for more details. Reading previous parts for context is encouraged. CW for language.
“Mia-ya,” she calls from behind her locker door.
“Mmm?”
“You wanna do something this weekend?”
“I dunno. Just relax, I guess.”
“You don’t wanna do something together?” She closes her locker, revealing her face pouting at you.
There were so many things you wanted to do together. But you bury those ideas under the books you stuff into your own locker.
“Did you have something in mind?”
“Nothing in particular. Just something with you.”
Fucking hell.
“Well, I think I need new jeans. Help me pick out some?”
You catch her smiling to herself.
“What?”
“Nothing.” She giggles. “I’ll tell you later.”
“Why are you laughing?”
“I’ll tell you later!”
“김민지 이상하다.”
Before closing your locker you notice a tiny bear sticker on the door.
“How did this get here? We’re only a month in and you’ve already started vandalizing my locker?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, bro.”
“Is this why you were laughing at me?”
“No, no! But I will admit it’s funny how you only noticed it now. And also how easy it was to guess your code.”
“Wait, yeah! How the fuck did you know?”
“Mia! No need to be so angry that your best friend knows you so well.”
It slowly dawns on you. “You remembered the date?”
“Of course! The day we got these,” she says, lifting her ring finger up to your face. “It was my idea after all.”
You look down at your own fingers. And you start to feel your sanity slowly slipping through them.
“To be fair, it did take me a couple of tries before I got it. But still… I know you’re sentimental like that, so it wasn’t hard.”
As she proudly struts away to the cafeteria you spot her applying lip balm - the same one you used.
You thought you’d buried it in your locker along with everything else but you find yourself powerless to stop the idea of kissing her making its way back into your mind as the lip balm touches her lips.
-
The smell of spring wafted in through the open bedroom window. You had your phone to text her in one hand and the chocolate bar she got you on the walk home in the other.
so we’re just going shopping tomorrow?
yeah unless u had something else u wanted to do
wanna watch a movie?
huh? i thought u didnt like movies
yeah but i just want to spend time with you and i know you like going to the cinema so
You admire the blue ring on your finger and laugh.
My girlfriend really likes me, doesn’t she?
As long as you had it on you could pretend. So you never took it off.
i just checked and there arent any movies showing rn that im interested in
wanna come sleep over at my place then? we can watch the movies we want
wow u really wanna spend time with me huh
you got a problem with that bro?
no its just ur being sweeter than usual idk
well i do have something really important to tell you and i just wanna spend the day together so we can talk about it
No, Mia. It can’t be what you think it is.
is this what u were being so secretive about earlier?
yeah
why so serious bro is everything ok?
yeah everything’s perfect! i just want to tell you in person
No. Fucking. Way.
why not now?
i’ll tell you tomorrow dw
you promise?
of course! i’ll pick you up at 10? or is that too early?
no im fine with it but i doubt youll wake up that early
you’re right 😖 i’ll just text you tomorrow
sure
okie good night mimi ily 💗
good night <3
Mia, there’s just no way. Calm down. You’re being silly. You’re being delusional. Stop it.
You start laughing again at the absurdity of the situation. At the fact you were even entertaining the thought. You laugh until tears start pooling in your eyes. Until you forget why you were laughing in the first place. Until the tears fall and you find yourself crying into the night.
-
i’m up
congrats on waking up before noon ig
hey i set an alarm just for you so you better be grateful
woah im so touched
we have a date today so i better be on time right? 😊
Damn it, Minji.
does that mean youll be here soon?
yeah in 30
cool
It was 11:10. You’d gotten ready to go two hours ago. But she didn’t need to know that. She didn’t need to know that you were dying to know what it was she wanted to tell you.
hey i miss you
What the fuck?
bro whats up ur never this clingy
sorry i’m just really happy
about what?
you’ll see
It was 11:11. You wish for what you’d always wished for. You knew there was no point but with her being like this and your ring still on your finger, the line between fantasy and reality had never been more blurred.
-
Waiting outside your front door, you see her approaching from down the street. Even at that distance you could see the radiant smile she was giving you.
Often you wondered what life would have been like had you not moved in just down the street from her. Had you not gone to the same school. What if the universe didn’t give you so many opportunities to get close to each other? Why did it have to give you so many reasons to fall for her? But you had no choice. This was your life now. The girl you called your best friend, the one standing in front of you, was the person you so desperately loved.
“굿모닝.”
“It’s not morning anymore. You’re late.”
“미안!” You’re reminded that every apology would sound like your name. “But I’m here now. Let’s go.”
“Don’t you have something to tell me first?”
“Later. Over dinner.” Her smile was cheeky. Teasing.
“We have dinner plans?”
“Yup. My treat.”
Your heart trips over its own beats.
“Bro, it should be my turn.”
“Mia, no. This one’s important to me.”
Then it starts to scream as it hits the ground.
“My god, Min, what’s this about?”
“Don’t worry about it! Let’s just go get your new jeans first.”
She starts laughing again and you still don’t know why.
-
“Minji! No way!” you exclaim, shopping bags filled with clothes in one hand, her hand in the other as she tugs you along to a familiar part of the mall.
She just smiles and sticks her tongue out.
“This place is expensive!”
“But it’s your favorite. So it’s where we’re going.”
“Minjiii,” you whine.
“Hey, if you really cared about me spending too much you wouldn’t have such expensive taste. You left me no choice, to be honest.”
“Bro!”
For the first time in a while you’re laughing together. For a reason you both knew.
“For real, though, Mia. It’s fine! It’s my treat, so don’t worry about it.”
“You’re so sweet, Min.”
As if that needed further confirmation, she pulls out a chair for you.
“Mia! Are you blushing?”
“What? No!” You quickly cover your face with your hands. Your ring smiles a devilish smile as you bring it close.
“Don’t fall in love, bro,” she says teasingly. But it was way too late for that.
“What do you mean? I’m just excited for the food.”
“Sure.”
With that one word her expression changes. You couldn’t quite parse it. But you convinced yourself that there was something about her face that told you that she knew. And there was nothing more terrifying.
-
As your meal comes to a close and the night slows down she finally says it.
“Mia.”
“Minji.”
“I have something to tell you.”
“I know.” Your voice falters as your heartbeats quicken. You clear your throat to hide it. “Just tell me already.”
She leans over the table, looking straight into your eyes with something like anxiousness in hers.
“I’m… I’m debuting in July.”
In that moment, as your pounding chest comes to a crashing halt, there was no greater dissonance than wanting to be happy for your best friend but being disappointed that she didn’t want to be more than that. Being excited for her future but being bitter that her future wasn’t you.
Then came rage. Fury. The dissonance between expecting, wanting, praying for her to confess and knowing that that was just a puerile, selfish fantasy you conjured for yourself. “You’re being silly again,” is what she would have said. You were so angry and there was no one else to blame but you.
“Bro, I’m so happy for you!” you strain. “All that hard work’s finally paying off!”
“Thanks, Mia,” she says softly.
“I don’t even know why you were worried you wouldn’t debut! You’re so talented. It was always gonna happen. I’m so proud of you, Min!”
“Thank you,” she repeats with her eyes.
“So, what’s the name of your group?”
She laughs once more and you finally understand why.
“NewJeans.”
“Oh my god, no wonder.”
“But don’t tell anyone, ok?”
“Of course, bro. Why would you even think I’d tell anyone?” you ask a little more aggressively than you’d like, still barely controlling your anger. Thankfully, she doesn’t notice.
“Just making sure.”
“How many songs do you have?”
“Four. And, yeah, we’ll be filming our music videos in Spain.”
“Oh, wow!” You wonder how much longer you could hide it. How much longer until she realizes you were faking it. “When are you leaving?”
“Next week. Which is why I wanted to spend time with you this weekend.”
“Wait, will you be gone for your birthday, then?”
“Yeah…”
“Oh.” You struggle to find words to say as your anger is replaced by sadness. “I’ll miss you…”
“I’m sorry! I’ll miss you, too! I promise we’ll spend lots of time together when I get back.”
“But I’m sure you’ll be really busy even then. Even more when you debut…”
“Let’s not worry about it yet, Mia! I’m still here. And I’m just happy to be with you now.”
“Me, too.” You smile weakly.
“I’ll just go pay, ok? I’ll be right back, then we can talk more about it at home. We have all night anyway!”
“Thanks, Min. For the food. For today. For everything.”
“Aww, bro, you sound so sad!” she says as she stands up. You look up at her from your chair. Seeing your hand on the table, she gently wraps hers around it and you hear the subtle clink of your rings as they touch. “I’m still here, ok? I always will be.”
You don’t take your eyes off her as she walks away. And they remain glued to her in forbidden admiration as she returns. Every time you looked at her there was always a part of you that wanted to just rush over to her and tell her everything. That she was your everything. Your first love. Now, knowing the world would soon fall in love with her, too - because you knew everyone would - that part of you wanted to keep her all to yourself.
Then there was the part of you just happy to see her. To have her in your life. Because she did make you happy. She always tried her best to put a smile on your face. She was an angel like that and today was further proof of it. And her smile - the same one you could see on her face now as she approached you - it made you feel safe. Like things were going to be alright. There was a strange, counterintuitive comfort you found in it, knowing that, even if she didn’t know your pain, she’d be there for you. She thought the world of you. She loved you like no one else could. Just not in that way. And you were happy with that. You’d have to be.
“가자.”
At the sound of her soft voice your sadness gives way to resignation. You remind yourself that it wasn’t her fault she couldn’t give you what your heart yearned for. And in doing so, you could finally, truly be happy for her.
With your hand hidden from her in your pocket, you slip your ring off with your thumb as she takes you home.

woman i dont need to take this slander. did you see awg in a henley. im not even alive anymore ive left this plane of existence im a ghost bro. respect the dead. i was reading this book wordslut that was talking about how women don't use certain curse words for different reasons and someone did a study or something and idk it was saying that lots of women don't like to use cunt because it's rude and they don't want other women to think that they don't respect women and it got me thinking about how i will really only use that word with you or like talking to brits or writing aussies because i know that youll know that thats not the context in which i mean it like when i say it to you it's a mark of our friendship because i know that you know that i mean it the british way not the american way but like in america id never call someone a cunt as a legit insult because in america its rude and has a much more negative and derogatory meaning bro the way that language changes between cultures so that the same word can have such different connotations is SO INTERESTING ok love you now i get to use this sign off again im so excited xoxo ao3
i have no idea what a henley is the only henley i know is the henley regatta and if awg is a tory i'll have to have some serious words with him
RIGHT its actually so interesting that the same word can have such different connotations and meanings i have to remember not to use cunt w americans because they get offended and also never believe me when i'm like its not a bad word in the uk but also its equally interesting how we adapt in those situations like the fact you use it w brits and aussies is in itself interesting bc it implies that your understanding of the word itself isnt that influenced by the connotations it has in the us because you feel comfortable enough saying it outside of that context this makes no sense but im invoking the power of hella that you understand me anyway

You have given such great advice to so many, so I want to ask you my strange question. I have to write a story . . . a long one . . . a memoir . . . about this terrible thing that happened, that was overcome by grit pretty much, and lead to changes for the better in society. I've been putting it off for 5 years now, and need to do it. For reasons. I already have an interested publisher but am hesitant to get into this world I know nothing about. Any advice? Any good memoirs out there you love?
Oh wow. First of all, that sounds like a lot, and good for you for tackling it. I’m not sure how much I can say to your situation specifically, but I’ll see what I can do?
First, and while this may be obvious: write it only if you feel like you can in fact really do it. If you feel like you should do it, but don’t want to, or are still not ready for it or whatever, then it will be a huge drag on you, and it won’t be as good as it could be, and it sounds like a project on this scale should be done when you’re ready to commit serious time and attention to it. Maybe you’re in fact ready but need a push to get going, in which case great! Consider yourself gently nudged and greatly encouraged. But I’m also a believer that things have their place and season, so if you need a little more time, even though it’s already been five years, you should take that. On the other hand, if you know you’re ready to do it but just are having trouble breaking the procrastinating cycle, then find some way to ease yourself in. You can’t think about writing the whole thing at once, it will probably go through many rounds of revisions and edits, and you’re not going to end up with a finished project on day one. As someone who just finished a PhD dissertation that took three years, still has some final stuff to be added, and underwent COUNTLESS rewrites/critiques/edits/reworkings along the way, I know what a slog it is. But you can’t think of The End Result on day 1. Write parts of it, or scenes, or ideas, or lines. Whatever you need to start moving yourself into that space and to make tangible progress on it.
Next, I have had my run-around with the traditional agent/editor/publisher thing, though in the realm of fiction rather than memoirs, and it’s really frustrating, takes forever, and seems to involve endless effort and submission for very little result. If you already have an interested publisher: great! That will save you a whole lot of time and struggle in terms of finding who is going to give a platform to this once you’re done. Is this someone you feel like you can work with? Do they understand the project and are they willing to commit to working with you (rather than over you or around you) for the time that it will take to tell the story? You should still ask yourself these questions, since they’re not your ONLY option. If it was a case where they’re an okay fit but maybe not the best, or you wanted things tweaked, or didn’t know if you would feel comfortable with the working relationship, or anything – you still have the right to shop around. That is, if you’re not already physically under contract/have a deadline/etc. Before you do sign anything, see if you can find a lawyer friend or family member, or someone with experience in that department, to read it for you. Read it yourself too, of course, but also get an expert eye on it if possible.
With memoirs, and especially ones which apparently deal with sensitive topics like this one, there’s also a question of ethics. Are you going to change/conceal the names of real people you write about? Are there personally identifiable details or situations you can’t disclose? Are there possible legal restrictions about what you can say and how? I am a scholar, so my approach to do things like this is by evidence and documentary and citations, but that might not be your style. Nonetheless, there will be a reasonable expectation on the part of your readers that you are presenting them with a factual account of things that happened. There have been several high-profile cases recently where best-selling memoirs were discovered to have been partly or entirely fictionalised. Which…. is fine, if you’re writing fiction, but if this is marketed as a memoir and contains a claim to biographical or factual accuracy, how are you going to organise and present the materials you are working with, even if just for your own benefit? Unlike in an academic monograph, you don’t have to give a list of citations at the end, but even if you’re writing from your own memory about things that happened to you (presumably), there are going to be things you don’t remember/don’t know about/etc. Is there a way to provide supporting evidence to your reader? Were there news articles written about it? Is there somewhere else they can go apart from you, in other words, to verify this account?
If you’re interviewing people or including substantial portions that represent the thoughts/words of others, you’ll also want to make that clear and have some kind of system for referencing. Journalists would also advise you to use audio recorders when interviewing in a formal context, so you can go back and check words later (and also have physical proof if there’s ever any question about what was said). You also have to provide your subjects with some assurance that their words and views will be represented accurately, which may necessitate some kind of brief legal document or waiver for them to sign to give you permission to do that (and once again, about having a paper trail for your own benefit and legal protection). Once again, if you have a lawyer you can consult about this somewhere, especially someone who’s used to this kind of work, that would be helpful. I am not one and therefore am not going to give any kind of legal advice, but I can say that it could be definitely something for you to look into, and might help you feel more confident about what can be used and how.
I’m trying to think if there’s anything else I can say off the top of my head. I obviously write a certain kind of rigorously researched nonfiction with my academic stuff, though that’s not the same as personal memoir. I do think organisation, preparation, and general attention to starting off on a solid foot will help you, and like I said, you’re not expected to have it all written immediately. Some drafts or notes or outlines of the whole thing, however rough and subject to revision, will also help you.
Good luck!

seeing all the bria 2.0 drama is just..A Lot good lord. really didnt think id be living through this kinda thing again
TLDR: self care is important. distance urself from things that hurt u. if u stay on tumblr, this isnt the only drama you’ll ever go through. please look after urself
thinking abt how much the 2014/15 fandom drama absolutely traumatised me and still affects me to this day (sometimes i get panic attacks when i get an ask. i love and appreciate everyone who sends me stuff but i just freak out sometimes and..anyone who was in the fandom back in those days will probably understand why).......like, pls everyone who is affected by this: look after urselves.
[for context bc a lot of ppl werent here back then: bria was someone in the fandom who sent copious amounts of anon hate, made hate blogs against specific users, sent people violent sexual asks, and all the while publicly sucked up to everyone. there was other stuff but this isnt an essay and also it’s horrible to remember]
please please please: if this is affecting ur emotions and general wellbeing, you have to talk to someone about it. if u were friends before and now feel betrayed, that’s legitimate stress and can lead to lasting emotional damage. same with anyone who was negatively impacted while she was around; cyberbullying and harassment can also affect u for a v long time. it’s always best to talk to someone offline, but if you cant then finding someone online can also be helpful.
some tips below
limit ur exposure. dont completely submerge urself in the drama. u need to focus on some good things otherwise youll get overwhelmed. practice some self care.
im serious. this sounds like crappy cliched advice, but go outside; for a walk or something. read a book. watch a light comedy tv show. listen to ur favourite music. hang out w friends who dont know abt this stuff and just enjoy ur time w them. u need to have fun activities that are completely unrelated to the fandom.
feel the emotions, but dont act on them. it’s v important not to suppress ur emotions, but feeling them doesnt mean getting physically angry or upset. be angry. be upset. hell, cry; that’s completely fine and actually helpful. but while ur feeling them, sit back and observe them. think abt how ur feeling and what ur thoughts are. if ur thoughts are negative, question them. challenge them. dont try to control ur thoughts and emotions, but recognise them. it’s hard and takes a lot of practice, but it really helps w staying on top of ur emotions and not letting them get too out of hand.
take a break if u need to. even when ppl are laughing abt the drama, it’s still not a healthy attitude and being around it can still hurt u. laughing w everyone else is just gonna keep reminding u of what has happened. it’s not safe to keep engaging w what is hurting u, unless ur in a controlled environment (eg, w a therapist; not on tumblr). turn off tumblr notifications on ur phone. leave all the drama behind, even if just for a few hours. give urself some peace
like..again, more cliched advice, but look after ur body. this is a stressful experience and looking after ur body helps ur mind. eat well, drink plenty of water, try to keep ur sleep schedule consistent, and get in a little light exercise if u can.
idc if it seems like im overreacting. ppl are talking abt how she made them feel scared to interact w certain ppl and that’s a really terrible situation to have been through.
but, even if things look bad rn, you will be ok. i promise xx
idk how helpful this is, but if u think it could help ppl then feel free to share it
#personal#choices#choices stories you play#csyp#wasi drama#pb fandom#pb fandom drama#drama tw#bria tw#self care#long post#wasi#mindfulness#this is all stuff that takes a long time to process and a long time to master#ive been in therapy for a loooooong time#everyone passes this stuff off as 'neurotypical advice' like..shut up pals it's helpful#[suicide tw: i tried to kill myself last year and yet this stuff is still helpful; even w severe mental illness]#im so glad mindfulness is something of a craze rn bc oh boy it is sooo good!!!!!!#literally ANYONE reading this go look into mindfulness and some of the practices#read about observing first; that's what i talked a bit abt here#it's so helpful for managing unwanted thoughts and emotions#ANYWAY that's so off topic#all fandoms are shit#look after urself#my 2018 brand is wholesomeness and self care#i love u all xxx

Can I Eat Fruit On a Keto Diet?
Question: “Can I eat fruit on a ketogenic diet?”
Answer: “Sure, if you want!”
I’m kidding, of course. I know why people ask this question. It’s because in the keto world fruit is a confusing, often contentious topic. You’ll sometimes see keto folks draw a hard line in the sand, saying that all fruits, or sometimes specific fruits, are “not allowed” on a ketogenic diet. I’ve written before about why I feel it’s inappropriate to label foods as “keto” or “not keto.” People need to consider their own goals, health, activity level, and food preferences when formulating their eating strategies.
Nevertheless, it’s true that it can be hard to figure out how to incorporate fruit into your keto diet. On the one hand, it’s “real” food: unprocessed, “whole,” and full of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and phytonutrients. It’s also Primal/paleo approved in moderation. On the other hand, the carbs in a typical serving of fruit can amount to a considerable chunk out of one’s daily carb allotment, especially for people who adhere to a very strict version of keto that only allows 20 to 30 grams of carbohydrate per day (as opposed to the Keto Reset Diet’s 50 gram per day suggestion).
So where does fruit fit for the average person following a Keto Reset Diet?
Keto People CAN Eat Carbs
Sometimes you’ll hear someone say that keto-ers can’t eat fruit because they “don’t eat carbs.” They really mean that keto folks don’t eat sugar, which is still a gross oversimplification because keto people absolutely do eat carbs. If you’re eating according to the Keto Reset Diet, you’ll start by aiming for 50 grams of carbohydrates per day—perhaps somewhat less if you are dealing with type 2 diabetes or metabolic syndrome—with some wiggle room if most of your carbs come from above-ground veggies and avocados.
From the point of view of the Keto Reset, we want you to choose your carb sources from among those included on the Primal Blueprint Food Pyramid. That means no grains or added sugars, but eating nutrient-dense vegetables and, yes, even some fruit if you wish.
What Fruits Are Best For Keto?
When picking the “best” fruits for keto, it comes down to how many carbs are in a serving. Higher carb fruits are going to be harder to incorporate into a keto diet while still allowing room for the liberal intake of vegetables and avocados encouraged in the Keto Reset.
The information below is taken from the Cronometer database. Make sure you pay attention to the serving size. I selected what seemed like reasonable servings of each by volume instead of weight (who knows what 100g of grapes looks like compared to 100g of watermelon?). I also provided the weight for reference, as well as the fiber content. The Keto Reset Diet does not recommend counting net carbs for fruit though.
Before getting to the data, note that this list omits foods like tomatoes and olives because that’s not what people mean when they ask about fruit.
Let’s also get two items out of the way that always appear on “keto approved fruits” lists:
Avocados: Is there any question about them being keto-friendly? So you know, one whole avocado (136 grams) has 12 grams of carbs (9 grams fiber), as well as 21 grams of fat.
Lemons: Most people aren’t eating lemons but juicing them, right? The juice from one whole lemon has 3 to 4 grams of carb (about 1 gram per tablespoon).
Now for the rest…
Berries:
Blackberries (½ cup, 72 grams): 7 grams carb (4 grams fiber)
Raspberries (½ cup, 62 grams): 7 grams carb (4 grams fiber)
Blueberries (½ cup, 74 grams): 11 grams carb (2 grams fiber)
Strawberries (½ cup halves, 76 grams): 12 grams carb (3 grams fiber)
Stone Fruits:
Apricot (each, 35 grams): 4 grams carb (1 gram fiber)
Plum (1 medium, 66 grams): 8 grams carb (1 gram fiber)
Peach (1 medium, 150 grams): 14 grams carb (2 grams fiber)
Nectarine (1 medium, 142 grams): 15 grams carb (2 grams fiber)
Melons:
Watermelon (1 cup cubed, 152 grams): 12 grams carb (1 gram fiber)
Cantaloupe (1 cup cubed, 160 grams): 13 grams carb (1 gram fiber)
Honeydew (1 cup cubed, 191 grams): 17 grams carb (2 grams fiber)
Tropical Fruits:
Papaya (1 cup cubed, 144 grams): 16 grams carb (3 grams fiber)
Pineapple (1 cup cubed, 165 grams): 22 grams carb (2 grams fiber)
Banana (1 small, 101 grams): 23 grams carb (3 grams fiber)
Coconut meat (½ cup, 163 grams): 25 grams carb (15 grams fiber)
Mango (1 cup sliced, 165 grams): 25 grams carb (3 grams fiber)
Other Fruits:
Clementine (each, 74 grams): 9 grams carb (1 gram fiber)
Fig (1 medium, 50 grams): 10 grams carb (2 grams fiber)
Kiwi (1 each, 69 grams): 10 grams carb (2 grams fiber)
Orange (1 small, 96 grams): 11 grams carb (2 grams fiber)
Apple, green (1 small, 144 grams): 20 grams carb (4 grams fiber)
Grapefruit (1 small, 200 grams): 21 grams carb (3 grams fiber)
Pear (1 small, 148 grams): 23 grams carb (5 grams fiber)
Apple, red (1 small, 158 grams): 24 grams carb (3 grams fiber)
Cherries (1 cup, 154 grams): 25 grams carb (3 grams fiber)
Grapes (1 cup, 151 grams): 27 grams carb (1 gram fiber)
You can see why it is difficult to work fruit into a ketogenic diet, and also why blackberries and raspberries are the most often recommended fruit for keto-ers. Nevertheless, it’s possible.
Just for comparison, the 7 grams of carbs you “spend” on ½ cup of blackberries could also be allocated to any of the following:
1 cup of cooked whole Brussels sprouts
1 cup cooked chopped broccoli
2 cups of raw chopped broccoli
1¾ cups raw shredded cabbage
8 medium baby carrots
4 cups of baby spinach
5 cups of raw kale
1 whole small cucumber
1 medium red bell pepper
Tips For Incorporating Fruit Into Your Keto Diet
Select lower-carb fruits and limit portion sizes.
Eat whole fruit, not fruit juices. Whole fruits induce a smaller glycemic and insulin response. Smoothies can quickly become carb bombs, and they are generally less satiating than their ingredients eaten separately because you don’t have to chew them. Include smoothies mindfully.
Consider timing them strategically around the times when you are most insulin sensitive: in the morning and especially after exercise. (This is solid advice for any higher carb food or meal.) Likewise, you might save fruit intake for designated higher carb meals (“carb ups”) if this is part of your routine. However, if you struggle with insulin resistance, any kind of carb ups might not be appropriate for you at this time.
Eat seasonally and locally. This recommendation isn’t unique to keto dieters, but eating seasonally and locally will automatically limit your consumption of fruits for much of the year unless you live someplace warm (in which case, hopefully you’re getting lots of outdoor time and sun exposure year round, too!)
But I Heard I Need to Avoid Fructose For Health?
Fructose is often demonized because it’s thought (incorrectly) that fructose uniquely contributes to de novo lipogenesis. As Mark has written previously, although fructose and glucose are metabolized differently in the body, it is probably splitting hairs to argue that one is more or less healthy than the other when they are considered in the context of one’s entire diet. And while reducing sugar intake has been shown to improve various health markers, this usually means cutting back on high fructose corn syrup and other added sugars, not eliminating a green apple and a serving of berries. If you’re eating a Primal-aligned ketogenic diet and are already limiting your total sugar intake, it’s probably not necessary to specifically avoid fructose that comes in the form of whole fruit.
That said, some of the GI disorders that are so common nowadays might be attributable at least in part to issues of fructose malabsorption. If you have been diagnosed with IBS or otherwise experience chronic GI symptoms, you might consider asking your doctor for a hydrogen breath test to detect fructose malabsorption. You can also try eliminating and then reintroducing fruit to see if it affects your symptoms.
Remember, Constant Ketosis Is Not Required
If you’re avoiding fruit because you’re afraid to get knocked out of ketosis, remember that once you’re keto-adapted it’s unnecessary to stay in ketosis 100% of the time unless you’re using a therapeutic keto diet to treat a serious medical condition. Also, if there’s a fruit you especially want to include in your keto diet, you can also test your individual physiological response to it using a blood ketone meter.
A final word: When considering whether to add more fruit to your keto diet, ask yourself whether you’re still at a point where you would be better off abstaining in order to avoid triggering cravings for sweet foods. This is an n=1 situation. If you feel like some fruit would add to your general enjoyment of your keto way of eating, or you’re looking for ways to incorporate more Primal-approved carbs, go for it. If you’re still struggling to break the sugar habit, perhaps hold off for now, knowing you can always choose to add fruit later.

Why Choose Our Fernbrook Personal Injury Lawyers to Represent You?
There’s no shortage of personal injury attorneys in San Diego County, but there can be a huge difference between two law firms regarding the quality of representation they provide. If your financial security is at stake after a serious injury or wrongful death in the family, you’ll want to be absolutely sure that the legal team you hire has the resources, experience, and talent to handle your case.
The Fernbrook personal injury lawyers at Harris Personal Injury Lawyers have built their reputation on honesty, hard work, and consistently superior results.
Below are just a few reasons why we have become one of the top law firms in California:
Investigating Each Case Thoroughly: Most attorneys genuinely care about their clients and will devote the time and resources needed to achieve the best possible outcome. But some lawyers take a more business-minded approach to their legal practice. They only accept cases that seem likely to result in a settlement, and when unexpected complications arise, they won’t invest the extra effort to prevail. At Harris Personal Injury Lawyers, we have a steadfast, uncompromising dedication to investigating every single case thoroughly. No matter how large or small your claim, we will prepare as if we are going to trial.
Limiting Our Caseload: The aftermath of a serious injury or unexpected death in the family is a stressful time. If you hire an attorney who takes several days to respond to your phone calls and emails, this will only make the situation worse. The Fernbrook personal injury lawyers at Harris Personal Injury Lawyers understand the importance of being accessible to our clients. That’s why we intentionally limit our caseload so we can return phone calls and emails promptly and devote sufficient time to every claim we handle.
Taking Cases to Trial When Necessary: Not every personal injury attorney has extensive litigation experience. But at Harris Personal Injury Lawyers , our trial lawyers are seasoned litigators who know what it takes to find success in court. Although we will do everything we can to help you secure a fair settlement without going to trial, we are not afraid to take your case to court if necessary.
Working with Expert Witnesses: It’s not uncommon for a dispute to arise at some point during the claims process. For example, the opposing party might argue that your own negligence contributed to your injuries or that you are exaggerating the value of your damages. In these cases, it may be necessary to bring in experts to provide testimony. At Harris Personal Injury Lawyers, we work closely with experts in a wide array of disciplines including doctors, financial specialists, vocational experts, and accident reconstruction experts.
We Won’t Let the Insurance Company Take Advantage of You
There are all sorts of tactics insurance companies use to reduce the value of claims or deny them outright. The Fernbrook personal injury attorneys at Harris Personal Injury Lawyers are well-versed in these tactics and can help you anticipate, avoid, and overcome unnecessary delays and disputes.
One of the reasons why our law firm has become so prominent is our commitment to preparing for settlement negotiations as if we are going to trial. By devoting the necessary time and resources to make your case as strong as possible, the insurance company may be less likely to argue that you were partially at fault or that your injuries were caused by something else. We can also take steps to hold the insurance company accountable if they delay the proceedings without a valid reason.
When you become a client of Harris Personal Injury Lawyers, we will handle all correspondence with the insurance adjuster on your behalf. We will make sure you are well-represented and treated fairly through every stage of the proceedings.
