Does anyone know where the bit in the description of the Lolth-Sworn "subrace" in bg3 "marked with bright red eyes by Lolth", comes from? There are so many examples that don't fit into that, and I think the separation into "Lolth-Sworn" and "Seldarine" is weird anyways? What about other deities like Vhaeraun? Or those that follow no god at all? And why is it stated that all Lolth-Sworn drow come from Menzoberranzan? It's not like that's the only drow city in the Underdark
#i know that the drow changed a lot through editions#like with the loss of infravision and all#but Malice Do'Urden and Gromph Baenre don't have red eyes#just like Drizzt doesn't#trying to make sense out of the weird things Larian did to the drow to make them playable as both “good” and “evil”#ramblings#bg3 drow#drow

Eye Color
Rebloggable version of art here. Thought I'd go into a bit more detail on a new post!
Like many Drow, Dalamus boasts crimson irises, although his black scleras are a bit more uncommon.
Also like many Drow, his eyes change in appearance according to mood and health.
A deep crimson indicates at least decent health and non-extreme mood.
A more pronounced, glowing red indicates significant anger, or the use of infravision. Dalamus does not use infravision on the Surface very often--its much warmer climate tends to muddle every heat signature together, making it fairly useless and painful except at night. Even then, it causes eyestrain with prolonged use.
A yellow color--which often appears gold against the normal red of his irises--creeps into his eyes when sick, poisoned, or under negative magical influence. The word "sick" is vague and could mean anything from sleep deprivation, a common cold, chronic pain, a severe wound (ie blood loss causing anemia), or a life-threatening disease.
Dalamus often has a small, faint ring of "gold" around his pupils from back pain if he has not had adequate rest in several days. Under Matron Mother Nedvyllanna, one would see his eyes golden just as often as they would be red, thanks to her liberal usage of enchantment magic--notably, charming spells.
A bright, sickly yellow color overtakes all red in his eyes when extremely ill, potentially fatally so. Death is imminent without help.
These color switches are not instantaneous; they take time to appear and the amount of color will depend on severity, hence the basic gradient provided above. Anything between the described "benchmarks" is possible, such as only a slight, almost imperceptible glow when angry but not enraged.
Dalamus has no control over this process, making it a helpful measurement of his health or mood for others (if they know what to look for or what it indicates at all)--either to his benefit, or his detriment.
