#like they want Hawke to be Shepard SOOOO bad but obviously Hawke isn't and it's more compelling when Hawke isn't.

I always forget da2 is advertised as a "rise to power" story because it never feels like it. What rise. What power.
I know there's probably some commentary about how nothing changes for Hawke regardless and being in a position of "power"/fame more like kind of sucks but also. No?
#idk sometimes it's compelling#da2 is in a funny space to me. It can be compelling if I just ignore most of everything the game is obviously trying to be#and accept what it is#me vs da2#like they want Hawke to be Shepard SOOOO bad but obviously Hawke isn't and it's more compelling when Hawke isn't.#you could say something about Hawke being a Hero Protagonist stuck in a position where that doesn't do anything for them#unlike the HoF and most insultingly the Inquisitor being in the right place at the right time to be Heroes while Hawke is just unlucky#despite being just as if not more talented#idk though I kind of prefer that Hawke sucks and isn't as good at making the most out of situations.#da2 compels and requires stagnation and relative inaction to work and to me it's better to just make Hawke kind of like that#even though I don't think it's necessarily what they're going for. Though sometimes I do. And that sucks.#like “don't you wish there was a middle option at the end of da2?” kind of and that's something that sucks about the game!#the solution to your inability to make a compelling conflict is not “we needed a middle ground ending”
