The idea that El, at its core concept - no semantics, would prioritize her boyfriend over her family is a fundamental misunderstanding of her arc.
She won't be choosing in the first place but if she was going to Will is literally her BROTHER. Idc if she's known Mike longer that mf lives with her, you thinks she's gonna wreck her FAMILY? Her HOUSEHOLD??? Threaten her HOME LIFE????!!!
#el hopper#stranger things#willelmike#i'm not anti any ship i'm anti toxic fans#if it can be consistent with their arcs i'm for it and i'll let you be and i do#but when you're arguing directly against them#nuh uh#will isn't her new buddy#he is her BRO.THER.#What is she gonna do? give him the silent treatment until college?#whisper slurs at thanksgiving dinner what?#no because literally what would she even do#some of y'all forget even if she was horribly mad at him it would still be her being mad at her BROTHER#she can't just dump his ass (like she can and has done mike -oop#i honestly didn't even intend that reference anyways-) she has to go home to that mf every day and sit with him at the dinner table#if it got nasty they have parents and a brother who would be affected and get involved#like they are siblings that doesn't change even if she felt betrayed by him somehow#willel

Lookism 479, 480 and 481 edited
Struggled to type this because I'm sore from my physio therapist appointment
479
- OK, so we know Jerry also knew Jinyoung and that his father was murderd. We also know there's this mysterious reporter Kim who might have some clues.
- What is the Era of peace?
- Jerry's father had an abnormal body.
- Why does no one know anything about Daniel's connection with Jinyoung? I'm so done. I don’t even care about that anymore.
- Now that lineman's training, I would like to see him go against some of the worker guys that beat him.
- Dj being shady ass hell as usual 🙄. I don't think Daniel should trust him, he's being too trusting. James knows so much but refuses to tell him anything. He's using Daniel to get to jinyoung so he can learn the secret behind the 2 bodies. I know deep down Daniel doesn't trust him that much, but he needs to stop giving James even the tiniest bit of info.
- I feel like Lightning Choi is in danger now that James knows about him.
- oh my God, he really is living by the junkyard💀
- these guys just keep getting stronger, why is his back so huge, it looks like an extra layer of skin😮💨
- tf do they mean by " the time has come for us to try to kill each other". As if they weren't giving each other permanent damage. Honestly, gun and Goo's relationship reminds me of 2 siblings, goo being the younger one who is not used to being independent until one day he decides to leave the nest. This whole meeting felt like a family low-key falling apart, goo leaving the family but deciding to visit his brother one last time before leaving. Which makes me think about the whole theory of someone dying and it showing guns' true personality. I originally thought that it was hinting towards Olly and how gun surprisingly has respect for the dead. But now I think it's goo who's going to die. These panels are honestly so well done. The bittersweet smiles and how human they look in here. You can tell they don't want to kill each other.
480
- I feel gun will eventually betray Charles because he took it too far or hold back while fighting goo. That or there'll be a change of plans like in the workers' fight with dg.
- I think gun was genuinely happy to find someone on his level. Maybe he was used to people always agreeing with everything he did or said, so befriending someone like goo was a breath of fresh air.
- Watching this interaction also reminds me of Crystal. It honestly looked like she had a good relationship with James,Gun, and Goo. Calling them hyung and conversing normally. She seemed like the little sister of the family, and Charles is like the power-hungry dad tearing it apart. I almost felt bad watching the junkyard breakup, but then I remembered they're both awful people. The one I truly feel bad for is Crystal. She didn't ask for this, she didn't join Charles because she had a choice.
- The whole thing with Eli deciding Hudson will stay, and the whole " ... so I'll let you borrow one room" thing is pissing me off. Why is he the one making all the decisions, Sally did a lot for Hostle, but somehow, she's just being pushed aside. Ptj wtf. Throughout the entire Hostle arc, it was just Eli getting the credit for half the shit Sally did it was literally her idea to give the runways a home. And the point system shit was not only an Ok idea, but it wasn't even his original it was just something he saw while living on the streets. The fact it's all "Eli this" and " Eli that" is so fucking annoying. Ptj literally showed Sally putting in the work and pushed all the credit toward Eli. Like if you want it to be about him actually make it about him
- Gyeol doesn't deserve his brother.
- Every one of these guys have insane methods, like how do you expect him to talk when you shove his glasses down his throat.
- THE UGLY FACE EXPRESSIONS ARE HERE WHICH MEANS SHIT WILL FINALLY GO DOWN.
- I used to think Charles's weakness was his daughter but now I don't think he gives a fuck about her.
- How did dg record the evidence though?
481
- hey I have that flash drive too
- I think dg was testing the waters with the whole flash drive situation to see Eugene's reaction to him knowing jinyoung.
- Mandeok is like Regina George, his hair is full of secrets literally
- Now they're calling it anxiety attacks instead🫥, ptj please research mental health
- is it me or James feels guilty for killing Gapryong and jinyoung going insane? This makes me think that after that incident James started hating Charles.
- that's some tacky ass writing he has there on his car
- that's the worst marketing strategy I've ever seen
- how did jibeom get so big😃
- Someone said the new guy looks like the lovechild of dg and Eli and now I can't unsee it
- To think Vin killed a king
- I was right about the cult theory
- This is why education is important, people think anything is evil, acting like they're not the devil themselves.

Thoghts from watching the ATLA live action!
Episode 4:
Holy shit Iroh and Aang are cellmates this is such a fun scenario!! Gives some strong Crossroads of Destiny vibes, ngl. Also, the crytals look cool!!!
Oh I'm genuinely so glad they didn't just... Move on from Sai working for the Fire Nation, I was genuinely doubtful they were gonna adress it tbh! Now I just need a Sokka and Jet confrontation and I'll be happy, though, that isn't likely to happen unfortunately.
I really do like what they did with Sai and Sokka though- this kinda feels like him starting a pattern of trying to look for replacement father figures tbh, which really fits with how much more visibly he's fixated on being like Hakoda here. It's sad and sweet at the same time, and I'm really interested to see how they'll write Hakoda!
Fuck yes, spy Zuko!!!
Smh kid Bumi isn't crazy enough, is it really THAT hard to find just. A completely unhinged looking kid?? Nah obviously I'm joking, he's cute haha it obviously wouldn't have been possible to have the visual similarities we see in the og so just having his unique laugh to identify him by works!
Idk what was up with Iroh's writing in the first episodes, he felt really foreign to me but over time he genuinely finally starts feeling like Iroh so I'm glad they got into the groove with his writing! He's still a bit too open which feels weird, but he uses more veiled language now while doing it so it works better. Also? I heard they used Leaves From The Vine, but damn it still got me!!
Haha YES, this was genuinely a change I always wanted: Sokka and Katara in the tunnels instead of Aang and Katara!! Not for shipping reasons, because that's gross, but because I always felt it would've been real funny haha
Wait are they fr sending Iroh to face punishment? I was sure he was next to Aang as part of a White Lotus thing or just until Bumi heard he was there!! I'm guessing he... Still doesn't know? I'm guessing this whole thing is a spin on when Iroh gets taken from the hot springs, but Bumi being directly in charge only works if it's all a ploy or if he hasn't been informed that they have the Dragon of the West in captivity- which would be wild!! Unless he's busy constructing puzzles for Aang lmao idk
So like. Given that the siblings are going to the tunnels, Aang is meeting Bumi, and Zuko is rescuing Iroh... I guess we just drop the Jet plot until next season??? Man, what a bummer. That was too short and didn't even hit all the high point of meeting him in the original. Like, they honestly could've had him try to appear and try to atone by trying to help and getting rejected and yelled at, but instead he just confirms his evil plans and is never seen again? Like, literally, what did he even do here? Despite being on screen for longer, his betrayal somehow doesn't seem as impactful because there's no time for Katara to process it last episode, like. Again, I hope to god this is a thing she has to kinda wrestle with a lot next season- I also kinda hope Sokka somehow independently meets him with Aang again and doesn't realize that the guy from the cart is the same guy Katara talked about, and that these two get to have their own Jet disappointment because again!! So far taking Sokka out of the Jet plot is genuinely the biggest issue I have with this show. Katara's arc seems to be headed to the same place albeit in a very different pace, but this is something that would be INCREDIBLY hard to fix. Like? I get it, I understand that what Sokka learns in that episode doesn't have to happen there, but. It's genuinely one of my favorite episodes because of how both of the water tribe siblings get to learn something from interacting with this charming duplicitous guy, and taking out Sokka's growth kinda just? Leaves us with Katara getting betrayed while bottling it up (likely until either they meet again or until Zuko's actions remind her of it- it'll probably also be important with Hama), it kinda just becomes "Katara gets a crush on a bad boy and gets hurt" which? Idk it feels weird, it was presented differently here and she feels much less silly and willfully blind because for the longest time no one tells her to be wary of Jet but. I still don't like how ultimately Jet was just there to disappoint Katara and interact with literally no one else. I mean!! I love Jet, of course I too had a crush on him, he's iconic and important and of course he had to be a part of this, but. Truly, they minimized the hurt he causes so much that I just kinda feel like he might as well not have appeared with how little he ultimately impacted things, at least for right now. I'm really hoping he gets an expanded role next season that helps to make up for how much his appearance was minimized, or that we see this have a tangible impact on Katara, because as it stands... It was just kind of a disappointing cameo appearance rather than something that felt like it needed to be there. Anyway this is all more about last episode but I still held out a bit of hope for it to be resolved better so. To see that Sai and Teo get to face a bit of emotional fallout set up last episode because they get to further the plot, while Jet just vanishes... It sucks, and it hurts, and I hate it. Anyway, onwards, I guess!
Teo has genuinely been changed so much he straight up isn't the same character anymore, and it's... Strange. I don't really like it too much, tbh. He's like, EXTREMELY cynical and eager to fight, and it's such a strange change from a character whose entire purpose originally was to kind of mirror Aang and help nudge him along on his journey. I genuinely can't tell if they just thought that living in a city under constant threat rather than literally amongst the clouds would mean he would kind of have to be different, or if it was an attempt to make him cooler or whatever. Regardless, I don't like it, tbh he kinda pisses me off a bit? He's SO serious and angry all the time and it just. Feels weird when he only resembles his original counterpart through his name and use of a wheelchair. Everything else about him is nowhere to be seen! If you compare his situation to Katara, it might seem similar on the surface- except, Katara is a main character who clearly still has a character arc ahead of her (and also all of her defining traits are still there), while Teo shows up like twice. It's kinda vital that he isn't too complex and keeps his original personality because he doesn't have the same leeway to grow that a main character does, otherwise he risks just becoming someone else entirely... And that's what happened. The thoughtful and cheerful boy with an interest in Air Nomad culture is all but gone, replaced with yet another angry warrior, and? While I get how it's probably more likely for him to become the latter, I also very much miss and lament the loss of the former. Sai is very much the stronger adaptational character of the two, and he's the only one of the two to get to have a real impact on one of the Gaang. It... Sucks.
Lmao Flopsy my beloved what have they done to you?? Guess they ran out of CG budget haha
Oh, this Bumi has a very strange and uncomfortable vibe, so like... Perfect! He was always gonna be hard to translate to live action, and I saw a lot of people dislike how they portray him here, and I kind of get it? He's not very likeable, he feels like kind of a bad ruler and a bit cruel... And that actually tracks? I read the showrunner said he wanted to focus a bit more on how upset Bumi is about Aang disappearing and reappearing in his life, and that underlying anger absolutely comes through. Bumi is... Kind of scary, and as someone that has a rep for being The Crazy King or whatever, I feel like that perfectly fits!
Jet!!!! He's here!! Kinda feels like it might be a dream ngl, it just has that vibe? Or maybe that's just how happy I am to see they didn't abandon him haha. He's... Still only gonna interact with Katara though, isn't he? :(
Uh? So, I'm gonna have to be filled in on when Katara learned physical self defense. It was very cool, but it felt like nothing I've ever seen her to do before. Anyway real cool moment for Katara there overall, it was great! It in particular really stands out against the cartoon in the way she manifests her anger. She's like. Definitely angry here, and it's very clear she's also just once again tempering it and moving on- no time for this, no time for Jet, no time for fighting... And at some point all of those repressed feelings are gonna have to overflow. It was a very cool scene, but it was, once again, sorely lacking Sokka's presence. More than anything, I just. Wish for these two to meet independent of Katara and get to have their own clash. Honestly? I feel like they could potentially catch two birds with one stone by having the Gaang split up earlier next season, specifically, have Suki help them get to Ba Sing Se earlier so get to meet Jet or something. Idk, the idea isn't fully formed, but it definitely feels like the most likely point for them to get to meet and it would make me really happy for everyone to have a bit more interaction with Suki before she formally joins them in the last season. Like? Maybe Jet and Sokka meeting could be Sokka's story in a Tales of Ba Sing Se sort of episode? As much as I love the haiku club... It's almost certainly getting the chop- also, I heard that the biggest and most important plotpoint of that episode already gets revealed in this first season so? It's likely just not gonna happen, or if it does it might just be like, a bonus one for fun idk. Regardless that season has a lot of "filler" that can easily be dropped, and Jet and Sokka meeting feels to important to just. Never happen, and!! I want it so badly, fuck!!
Yo ngl Zuko's helmet do be making him look like Melonlord
Lol prompting a conflicted Zuko with "well? Are you just gonna stand there? What are you gonna do?" Is fucking hysterical
Bumi is fr so pathetic, fucking no one likes his jokes but his the king and having people have to laugh this time is genuinely hilarious. It also makes everything so much more menacing!! I get why people didn't like what they did with him, but I think it's an interesting direction to go with his character and I think they handle it really well. If anything? Having to stick to some of the original characteristics and reusing the jokes really hurt his momentum imo
The Omashu story looks beautiful!! Ngl I don't really understand why they changed it to a lesbian couple? It literally changes nothing, their genders doesn't matter to the story, so I genuinely don't care one way or the other, it's just... A strange choice to make haha
The singing nomads are always fun, though in my ideal Secret Tunnel scenario they go in with Sokka and Katara and annoy the shit out of Sokka. Miss them already. Also, I do miss Dee Bradley Baker- just. In general, but also, can't help but think of him when I see these guys- it's his song after all!
Forgot to comment on Iroh taking the Lotus tile last episode, so I'm happy to see it back in action here! Do kinda wonder how June will track him in the last season without his smelly sandal though haha
Really cool scene with the rock candy!! Obviously the original way it's presented is off the table, and they instead made it into a really beautiful little action scene!
Ngl something about seeing Zuko pick up a White Lotus got me choked up a bit. The hesitation with Zuko between Aang and Iroh didn't really feel like that big a deal here given the different circumstances behind Iroh's capture, I mean? Obviously Zuko was never gonna abandon Iroh after he sacrificed himself, so not going after Aang here wasn't really that much of a sacrifice on his part in comparison, just... Basic decency to return the favor, which kinda lessened the impact and you might as well miss there was even a conflict with how little of the episode he spends thinking of Aang, but. I like it, it's sweet to see their connection here anyway. Definitely does feel like Zuko is a bit too close to redemption at all times during this season though, Iroh is being WAY too obvious about his true allegiances imo, but tbf... I doubt anyone could go into ATLA blind nowadays, and maybe making Iroh more transparent and Zuko more sympathetic is a way to later drop the shoe ever harder during Crossroads of Destiny- like, THAT'S how much of a wrong choice he makes there, it goes against his entire characterization thus far... But the bait Azula used was too alluring. Or something like that, idk, maybe it's just. Tough to write such a beloved character back into his worst version? Idk, I kinda get why people wish he was less obviously on a path to redemption but frankly? I think it's just an Iroh issue again, they really seem to struggle with writing him to appear silly or without depth as the first season kinda necessitates, and his unwavering support and pushing for sure make Zuko a lot less lost here. I wish he got to be a bit more, but again: this show was the first time in a long time, maybe ever, that ATLA managed to make me be afraid of Zuko, so. Idk. Mixed feelings- he's not all sugar here AT ALL, but he definitely still is a bit too much for this point. I genuinely do think that Iroh's ability to reach him and be straight to the point needed to be heavily nerfed tbh, I think that's the main issue with Zuko's appearing too sympathetic here
Okay, so. Genuinely not exaggerating here when I say: Sokka saying he has a hunch stole my breath away, made me choke up, and tears welled up in my eyes. Like! THAT'S how taken off guard I was with them bringing back my favorite underrated Sokka trait: his instincts. The time it took me to write this was enough for me to genuinely just start crying while thinking about it, like. Genuinely I'm so happy and relieved this managed to find its way into the show, I'm. A bit overwhelmed rn and I don't know that I can put my feelings about it into words rn so I'll be back when I have something else to say, for now: I am RIDICULOUSLY happy with this development, it means a lot to me personally.
Wait I'm immediately back: this is strange, right? The initial utter joy blinded me but this is like... The exact opposite of what Sokka initially does in this episode, this is kinda funny lmao
I think I can pretty confidently say by now that Sokka and Katara's relationship is my favorite part of this adaptation. They always bring out both the best and the worst in each other, their scenes are always bot fun and also just... Cathartic to me in a personal way because they always manage to hit everything that feels missing until they go at each other. It's genuinely perfect, I love them so much. Like? Yeah Ian Ousley is possibly a stinky liar, but he and Kiawentiio have a great rapport and work really well as the unique twists of their characters that this LA is going for. I really, really enjoy them.
Istg Sokka in the cave is just spitting out one pop culture reference after another and it's genuinely bizarre
So, Iroh was provoking that guy to let him take out his anger, right? That's genuinely the only way I can read that scene for it to make sense. Sympathizing with the guy wouldn't have helped, he wouldn't care that Iroh knows he was wrong and that he only realized it when he lost someone too, so he just let him vent by playing the bad guy ig? Idk what I think of that scene tbh- Iroh being a hated general is something that needed a bit more fleshing out for Zuko taking the throne to make sense, so I don't hate it, but. It was weird to see Iroh be so obstinate in the face of someone who was clearly hurting because of his actions. The expected Iroh move would have been some wise words any sympathy that leads to bonding and healing, and it felt SO weird that it just. Didn't happen, and yet... At the same time, I kinda got it, and I do really appreciate this scene, even if the characterization feels off in a way- which, tbh, most Iroh scenes do. It wasn't a bad one, it just felt really strange to keep expecting him to do something and for him to just... Not. Iroh is definitely both the same and yet feels really different and I just. I can't get used to him tbh.
The flashback mourning scene immediately after was also nice, although it was a bit funny how Dallas just looked exactly the same age when it should've been more than three years in the past. Once again Zuko is slightly too sympathetic too early, but at this point I kinda think that's just what they're going for- they're doubling down on showing him as misguided and wilfully blind rather than cruel, which is a realization you do come to during the first season of the original to be fair... It's just a lot less subtle about it here, with much less time where you just view Zuko as The Enemy. It's very clearly from very early on that this is also his journey, and as that gives me more Zuko... I don't even necessarily hate it lmao, it's just different. I think that so long as they keep being consistent about why Zuko is still refusing to "turn good" it can work really well, and ig with Azula coming early... They increased the pressure on him from both sides, which is actually kinda interesting and something i didn't realize until literally just now. Honestly I think half of the point of me writing these is just... To help me get my thoughts in order, to help me see the show for itself rather than just as a cut down version of the story, and honestly? So far it's actually working really well in terms of helping me come to terms and appreciating some of the weirder/bigger changes they make. Still the one unforgivable change is no Jet and Sokka confrontation- I'm glad they didn't entirely drop what Sokka learns there, but. I just love that episode so much that it being changed so severely really hurts in a way I can't reasonably reconcile. Everything they did and all the reasons for it makes sense, and it all works really well in the end but. It's still just a terrible personal loss haha
I do think that ultimately Katara was right and said something Sokka needed to hear (he's not his dad) and I don't like how it was brushed under the rug a bit but I guess he's not really ready to confront that quite yet- that'll probably come when he reunites with Hakoda, huh?
Oh my god it's happening again!!! Istg it feels like some characters just. Straight up accidentally exist in the wrong universe- Bumi and Kyoshi both chide Aang for traits he doesn't have here, and he never gets called out for the in the original. Genuinely it feels so bizarre, like these characters come from another world where what they're saying is true. More than ever this show feels like it was made by fans who loved the show so much they wanted to see it be better, and when given the opportunity they just kinda... Went ham on both fixing the flaws while also directly acknowledging and trying to fix them, except it doesn't make sense because they don't exist here. It's so disorienting and, frankly, super funny and personally validating to realize the writers also probably had screaming meltdowns over Aang being a bad main character, and feeling so strong about it that they just had to include it still. It feels like the biggest callout post possible, it's genuinely so funny, and as nonsensical as it is... I love it, and for me it makes the show feel like it was written by like mined people- I get it, y'all, I too would both fix and yell at Aang if given the opportunity! It's genuinely such a mood and so relatable of them, so even if it's kind of a mess... I love it, because I get it.
I think it's a really cute and fun twist to have the crystals not be the way, but rather, the badgermoles. It gives both aspects of the cave a chance to show up, and even though I do kinda wish we got to see a disgruntled Sokka strumming his way out of the cave... This was a really sweet resolution. Also, spending most of the time they're in the cave be in the dark and thus under the light of the crystal made for a much more visually interesting episode than it would be otherwise, while also being a nod to them originally being trapped in crystal in Aang's Bumi Adventure. Tbh THESE are two episodes that work great when separating the cast- Sokka and Katara literally did nothing in Bumi's episode, while Aang being there in Cave of Two Lovers did more harm than good in my humble opinion. As I thought I would, I like Sokka and Katara going through the cave together MUCH more- it allowed for a more organic conflict, had more potential for funny moments (that wasn't really utilized because for the most part this adaptation doesn't really do or seem to get comedy- I mean, the funny Bumi moments absolutely bombed here!), and just... Wasn't Kataang focused, which is always a plus!!
Ngl it's kinda embarrassing how much I cared about Sokka's instincts to the point that it made me THAT emotional- btw I don't like that it wasn't followed up on like originally, here it was just brought up and he turned out to be wrong which sucked a bit- unless the crystals were meant to lead them to the badgermole? Idk, wish this was a stronger through line because now he just looks like a fool- which the original episode made sure he wasn't, that was like, the whole point there!!
Genuinely WHERE was this Bumi in the original show,,,,, Anyway this Bumi fight kinda feels like the first cool earthbending we see, which. Ngl, checks out with the original lmao.
My god do I wish Katara and Sokka were able to actually do anything in the original episode with Bumi after seeing this, this was fantastic!!! I'm tearing up, genuinely, this was fantastic!! It really feels like what Aang could've become originally if he was challenged more. I really do appreciate and feel for Bumi here, and for once in a very long time.... I'm also rooting for Aang. That's genuinely not a small thing to accomplish for me! As much as I think what Bumi is saying here has merit, I also believe that this is an Aang that can learn to mediate and make the hard choices when he must- so long as he considers other perspectives, allows his friends to help him, and does the same for them in return. And for how distant Aang feels from Sokka and Katara right now? I believe they genuinely can and will grow closer to a degree they can be this for each other. This was an awesome moment and. Idk. Having genuine faith in Aang feels so foreign to me at this point, almost novel, and I hope to god they don't squander this later on. Watching this episode was actually so healing? Idk if it was just that it took me like, literal hours because I kept pausing to write a lot here so it felt like a long journey to get here, but. I'm really happy with where things ended up, generally!
Uhhh so. Zuko's lot in life is being on water, is it, Iroh? Lmao I know that's absolutely not what he meant but of course my brain IMMEDIATELY started barking "Zutara! Zutara? ZUTARA!" like a rabid dog- that is MY lot in life. Anyway I do think the two Iroh and Zuko scenes at the end here were probably the best ones of the two of them so far! And closing with Zuko having another "Aang vs Iroh" moment just to cement the message here was probably a wise choice especially given how brief the first one was. This one worked a lot better, and it was also really pretty visually!! Actually, for whatever reason I think this show generally looks the best when it's working with blue tones for whatever reason, and as this episode had a lot of them it was one I was constantly really impressed by visually! The green here was a bit hit or miss, but the blue scenes kinda always look really good!! Actually, Wolf Cove looked cool too, and it was pretty blue as well! Hmm. Something to try and pay attention to from now on and if I do a rewatch ig?
This episode honestly did a much better job at adapting two storylines simultaneously, and it was just... Overall better for the most part than the previous one. Bumi was a bit questionable in that he initally leaned too heavily on his original personality and gags rather than embrace this new version (ironically, the opposite of what they should've done with Teo), but for the most part I like the changes they made here! Iroh remains the shakiest and most immersion breaking part of this show- due to no fault of the actor, by the way, he does a good job, the writing is just really inconsistent with him- but if I ignore how uncanny and ooc at times he feels to me, I did generally like his scenes here and what they were meant to do. Genuinely don't know if Iroh is an issue for other people or if for some reason I'm just fixated on him feeling off tbh? Anyway Katara and Sokka were in top form this episode, as I came to expect from scenes that focus on their bond! It was definitely brought down a bit by having to resolve the weaker previous episode and its weird adapations of Jet, Sai and Teo right at the start but it managed to pick itself back up really well- and the Sokka and Katara fight put a nice little bow on it for now, so I'm relatively satisfied with how they wrapped it up. Still hope for a big Sokka and Jet fight though, and still don't really appreciate what they did with Teo. But the bulk of this episode was great- if not in execution, at least in the ideas it portrayed, so I'm happy enough with it tbh.
This post was, once again, a mess as it's just me writing down my thoughts as they occur to me with very minimal editing, if I bother with it at all, but. Yeah it's pretty funny that I'm constantly just lamenting how they remove something and then they still include it later haha, it's becoming kind of a pattern!

"Where are we going? How should I know? Do I look like the leader of this merry band of misfits?"
NAME: Garrett Hawke AFFILIATION: Ferelden / none SPECIES: human CLASS: mage
GENERAL TAG | HEADCANONS
DECISIONS (default verse - this means this is what I default to unless we plot something specific that requires adaptation of my canon events!)
Fleeing from Lothering
Protecting his family has always been a top priority for Hawke. He doesn't always seem like that's the thing he cares about the most (especially to his family, ironically), but it is. It was hard to leave Lothering, the only home he ever really knew, but getting his siblings and mother to safety was more important than anything else. Meeting Aveline and Wesley was a welcome coincidence, despite the tension between Hawke, an apostate, and Wesley, a templar. They never got to resolve their issues, however, as Wesley was injured by the Darkspawn. Knowing that they had no other choice, HAWKE MERCY-KILLED WESLEY so Aveline didn't have to do it. (To this day he has the feeling she somehow blames him, even though she knows there was no other way.)
Kirkwall
Hawke spent his first year in Kirkwall WORKING FOR ATHENDRIL. During that time and in the years that followed he took a lot of questionable jobs, but always held on to a few principles. Being an apostate himself, he HELPED MAGES when he could, supporting their freedom unless the Circle truly seemed like a favorable choice for them. Blood mages, however, he showed no mercy. He DID NOT KNOWINGLY ENDANGER THE LIVES OF INNOCENT PEOPLE even if that sometimes meant losing the money or making enemies. He always tried to SUPPORT HIS FRIENDS in their endeavours, only interferring when it felt absolutely necessary. Hawke LEFT CARVER IN KIRKWALL when he went to the Deep Roads, only to lose him to the Templar Order. He STOPPED VARRIC FROM KILLING BARTRAND and keeping the idol. He INDULGED ISABELA with all her ridiculous leads and helped her recover the relic, only to be betrayed by her in the end. When she returned, however, he REFUSED TO HAND HER OVER TO THE ARISHOK His friendship with MERRILL took a turn for the worse when he REFUSED TO HELP HER WITH THE ELUVIAN.
Fenris (my default romance, unless we're actively writing a ship together!)
Besides Varric, Fenris was perhaps the person Hawke grew closest to during his time in Kirkwall. Moved by the elf's story, he did everything in his power to help Fenris HUNT DOWN HIS FORMER MASTER and kill him and his minions. Hawke voiced concerns when Fenris threatened to kill his sister, but ultimately let it happen. ROMANCE OPTION: Hawke stayed true to Fenris after they spent a night together, finding that he simply was not interested in anyone else. Years passed and while Hawke was starting to believe they would never be more than they were then his feelings did not waver. In the end FENRIS CHOSE TO PROTECT THE MAGES with him and followed him out of Kirkwall when Sebastian's threat made him flee. To this day he remains the most important person in Hawke's life, the one he would die or kill for, come what may.
Anders
Being a mage himself Hawke had an open ear for Anders' laments and despite his friends' concerns he often helped the healer in his endeavours. He could see Anders' struggle over the years, his convictions growing into obsession, but there was little he could do to stop it. His friendship with Anders is one that was always very dear to him. ROMANCE OPTION: Meeting Anders was a bit like love at first sight. Hawke was infatuated, but didn't truly fall in love with all his heart until they'd known each other for a few years. Even as he saw the change in Anders his feelings remained the same, and he trusted him with all he had. HIS BETRAYAL HURT more than he could say, but Hawke sooner would have died himself than take his life for it (or let Sebastian do so). He WILLINGLY RISKED WAR WITH STARKHAVEN to protect Anders, and damn the consequences. After defeating Meredith Hawke left Kirkwall to bring Anders somewhere safe and out of Sebastian's reach.
The Arishok
While being aware of the threat the Qunari posed in Kirkwall, Hawke found respect and appreciation for their leader and his way of dealing with the issues at hand. In turn Hawke gained the Arishok's respect over the years, but that alone wasn't enough to prevent the tragedy from happening. After refusing to hand over Isabela, Hawke ACCEPTED THE ARISHOK'S CHALLENGE for single combat and defeated him.

Masterlist
Petrichor. The earthy smell filled your heightened senses as you felt him coming near you. As much as it intimidated you, it was bliss, somehow it relaxed you. But maybe even in that bliss you were aware how he affected you. Your back still towards him you started walking away from him, everyone was congratulating him on quidditch pitch after his marvellous performance against Slytherin, and here you were walking away from him.
You told Remus that you rather snuggle in your blankets and relax before the full moon but he was stubborn, just like you, and dragged you to quidditch pitch. It was even alright till you had to sit in the rain and watch the match but it all blew up when he saw you sitting in the stands, still on his broom he caught your eye and winked at you, causing a rush a shiver to run down your spine and feel the gross butterflies (it's not like you were looking for him all around the pitch). Alright maybe you were. But that doesn't mean it meant something.
Actually it meant everything. He was gorgeous, more than beautiful. He was breathtaking.
You almost were out of the pitch when a hand wrapped around your scarred one and you internally groaned. Turning around and coming face to face with your worst fear.
He looked at you with those freaking ocean blue eyes. Inhaling deep breath, you stared back at him, directly in his eyes.
You didn't know if he was intimidated by your glare or just trying not to laugh at your cowardice, when his throat bobbed when he gulped.
He released a airy laugh and said,
"Won't you congratulate me for my amazing performance?" He tilted his head, acting innocent. And honestly, he was looking adorable.
Shut up.
'All I want to say is that you are gorgeous.'
"Your ego is big enough without me inflating it." Your words betraying your thoughts. It did nothing to him but made him smirk a little more.
You rolled your eyes and turned around and started walking away.
"At least come to the party!" His voice bounced and reached you.
Merlin, why he is so gorgeous.
You internally groaned as you felt Lily shaking your shoulders.
"Female Lupin, if you don't get up right now, I am going to get male Lupin and make you have a good conversation with him."
"But Lils!" You whined. You had no intention in going to that ruddy party, where James bloody Potter would be.
She sighed and sat down next to a lying figure on the bed. She started running her hands in your hair, humming softly.
You looked at her. Actually looked at her. What was there not to like? She was perfect in studies, had the most magical eyes, the softest hair and kindest heart. On the other hand you were nothing like her.
You were a monster.
Each full moon, you hunted for lives, each full moon, you became a monster.
But no one knew that, except a handful of people. And unluckily, he too knew that. What phased you more was that he was ready to take a risk upon his life by being with you and your brother in those dark nights where you both lose yourselves to your inner monsters.
You always felt comfort in thinking that it was all for Remus, you just got to be a part of it due to you having no other place than the Shack. Who knows that if it hadn't been because of your condition, he would have noticed that you existed?
You were shaken out of your thoughts when you heard a loud bang on the door. Lily looked at you in confusion but gave you a look when found you doing the same to her. She got up and opened the door and found Marlene smiling giddily at both of you.
"What are you two doing here?" She exclaimed.
"The party has started!" She exclaimed and now did you notice that her words were slurred.
At least there is alcohol.
"Marlene...the party just started and you are drunk." Lily said with sigh, disappointment evident on her face.
Marlene just grinned, flipped her hair and started descending the stairs whilst saying something along the line,
"It's just the starter."
Lily turned towards you and opened her mouth to say something but we're stopped by the sudden thumping sound that came from the stairs. You got up quickly from your bed and looked downwards with Lily on your side.
On the stairs, Marlene was laying face on the top most stairs, her hair sprawled on the floor just outside your dormitory.
A gasp left Lily's lips and she crouched down to look at your friend, while you were trying your best to stop the laugh that was about to leave your lips. You too crouched down to her level but before you could say anything Marlene suddenly jumped and sat with her legs crossed, facing you both.
Lily gasped and your eyes went wide with shock but when you both looked at Marlene, she was just giving you both a cheeky smile.
"Merlin, women! Thought you were possessed for a moment!" You exclaimed with a hand on your chest.
You got no reaction from her, instead she just stood up and pulled you both too in a standing position.
"I forgot that I was bribed to drag both of your arses downstairs."
You squint your eyes and raising a brow you said,
"Who bribed you?"
Her face light up and smiling widely, she threw her hands in the air and exclaimed,
"Pames Jotter!"
Lily smacked her hand on her forehead, you winced just thinking how painful it would have been, assuming by the sound.
You heard Marlene's giggles and turned towards her.
"Get it? Pames Jotter is James Potter!" She giggled harder and smiled widely.
You visibly shivered at the name. You eyed the blonde in front of you and started thinking of all the things that you could use to convince her and let you go.
You slowly approached the opportunity,
"Marlene..."
Marlene who had broken into a dance, swaying Lily with her stopped abruptly and looked at you. All humor was wiped away from her face.
You sighed then looked at her,
"You are not drunk, are you?"
She turned towards you and smiled sheepishly,
"I don't know what you are talking about."
"You are forgetting that I am the twin of Remus Lupin. We notice small things."
Marlene sighed and looked to be contemplating something before breaking the facade.
"Yeah, alright, I was acting." Lily hit her arm as soon as the words left her mouth and Marlene grumbled about how she was kind of pissed off by the Lupin siblings in a not so respectful way.
"Why?" You whined to Marlene.
She rolled her eyes and said,
"Because I know that you were not going to come unless practically dragged down.
"So?"
"So? So? Just because you have a crush on the school's golden boy doesn't mean that you should rot in the dorm when everyone else is having a swing."
You felt flustered about how obvious were your feelings for him, you opened your mouth to retort but you couldn't find a better reason. Afterall, it was the reason you refused to be down at the party. You sighed and tried to ignore your friends' pitying faces.
"Okay, let's do this, we go to the party, have the time of your life, whilst we find something that you don't have to interact with him."
"And how we do this?" You raised an eyebrow, seriously questioning your friend's mind,
"I mean, how are we going to do this? He was the one who organised the party."
Marlene let a smirk form on her face and said,
"Technically, the party was organised because of him, not by him."
"Yeah, and that helps a lot." Lily rolled her eyes.
"You don't get it Lils! We are going to be so drunk and stay as far as possible from him."
You clapped your hands and said,
"Yes! We will get drunk and stay in our dorms! Go Marls, bring some drinks!"
Marlene rolled her eyes and took a threatening step towards you.
"Okay, enough, now you are going to get ready or I am dragging you just like this."
You opened your mouth to say something but,
"Nope! No, no more whining!" She cut you off.
She then clapped her hands and said,
"Alright, both of you get ready, I'll see you downstairs!"
She smiled and kissed your cheek before descending down the stairs.
You looked at Lily and sighed. When you saw her smirking you gave her a dry look and finally accepted your faith.
"Alright, girl, slow down." Remus said from your side, where he had been standing and rubbing your back for the past fifteen minutes.
After you came to the party, you were convinced that Lily and Marlene were not going to leave your side. But who were you kidding? They left you ten minutes in the party, saying that you need to live up and actually let James have his way with you.
You almost scoffed at the thought. James wanted nothing but to tease you by just assuming you fancied him. Only if he knew how true that was.
You were about to take a sip from your cup when it was snatched away from your hand,
"Hey!" You hit Remus on his arm for it but he did nothing other than shrug.
"You almost had enough to last you a lifetime."
When he saw your sour expression he sighed,
"Listen, I don't have any problem with how much you drink. If I am being honest, I love it when you get drunk, you spill all your secrets but I don't want you to grumble when you have the baddest hangover."
You gave him an odd look with your arms folded over your chest, you said,
"I don't tell any secrets when I'm drunk."
"Oh you so do."
"Do not."
"Do too."
"Tell me about one."
"You got the biggest crush on James."
You opened your mouth to counter his remark but your words died in your throat. Swallowing hard you whispered,
"I didn't…"
A smirk formed on his lips,
"You did."
You held your head in your hands and propped your elbows on the drink table near. You wanted to have the time of your life and here you were, finding out that you told your brother about your crush on his friend.
"You don't have any problem with it?" You mumbled with your head still in your hands.
Remus saw your sour expression and pulled your arm lightly and said,
"Hey, don't be sad now."
"Yeah, my brother found out that I have a crush on one of his best mates is not concerning."
"If it makes you feel better, I think he likes you too."
You gave him a dry look and took one more cup and gulped it in a single sip. The liquid burned your throat but atleast it was good enough to lighten the pressure on your head.
"Have you heard the way he talks?" You asked Remus who raised an eyebrow, clearly finding amusement in your condition. You gave him an annoyed look and continued,
"He talks like he knows all about everything. 'At Least come to the party', bloody buffoon. He–he knew that I would react this way and still! His voice is like the clawing of nails on iron. It gives me headache!" You looked at Remus who still had an annoying smile on his face,
"Why are you smiling?" You asked him annoyed.
"Why don't you say this to his face? Maybe he will go away" He suggested and you thought about this, maybe he was right. You found him looking behind you, you followed his eyesight and you frown deepened. Another glass down.
In front of you was James Potter goofing around with his best mate Sirius Black when other people were gawking at their sights.
"Doesn't he feel scared about how much people are attracted to him?" You mumbled to yourself but Remus heard you anyway and chuckled. You turned and glared at him.
"Honestly, why don't you just say all this to him? You know, it would be better." He said.
"You wait Remus Lupin till I find out about the person you like, then we will see." You turned towards the table again only to find the person you were not so subtly judging only to find him gone from there. Frowning, you raise your cup back to your lips and empty its contents in your throat. A shiver ran down your spine as the liquid burned your insides. You were starting to feel the outputs of the alcohol inside your system, your head started feeling dizzy and it felt really light. You turned around to find Remus surrounded by the Marauders this time and one of them was looking at you, he was looking at you.
Sirius draped his arm around your shoulder, breaking you out of the trance. You stumbled a bit as the alcohol in your system started taking a toll on you.
"Where's your boyfriend Y/N?" He asked you in mock concern.
You rolled your eyes but it did nothing other than increase the slowly growing headache you had.
A chuckle passed James's lips making you look at him, and unfortunately (or fortunately) he looked at you at the same time. You quickly diverted your eyes and shoved Sirius's arm from around you.
"Very funny, Black."
He grinned at you whereas you were slowly getting more and more dizzy.
"He still looks so scared whenever he looks at James."
You tried to hide your smile but it slipped anyway. Maybe you didn't know but your smile made James grin.
"Wait, why is he scared of James?" Remus asked suddenly. Your eyes widened at his words.
Oh shoot he didn't know.
It seemed like they too realised their mistake. They started stumbling over their words and you knew it was all on you.
"Where is Peter?" You asked, trying your best to change the topic.
Remus gave you a curious look but didn't question further.
"Er—Remus, come dance with me, won't you?" Sirius offered his arm to Remus, his nervous expression fading into a wide smirk. His words caused a blush to tint on Remus' cheeks and a small smile to form on his lips.
"Sure." And with that, they both left your drunk self with a very sober looking James Potter.
"Um–I think Marlene was calling me, I am going." You were about to walk away before he caught you by arm and pulled you back. You stumbled a bit, clearly due to intoxicating alcohol, or was it because of him.
"You never spend time with me." He pouted looking at you with those ocean blue eyes.
You were in such a daze that you didn't even react to his words. One reason was that now you were completely intoxicated and the other was that it was him.
"Well...you should take it as a compliment that I talk to everyone but you."
He was about to reply when suddenly darkness spread across the room. Shouts and protests rang out in the room, all increasing your headache.
Your hands frantically searched for something to hold on, when a bigger hand enveloped yours in it. It took time but your eyes adjusted in the darkness and you could lightly make out the face of the person holding your hand. Suddenly all the voices seemed to dim, suddenly the darkness was enough for you, suddenly you felt calm. Your stomach was churning but you were damn sure it wasn't the firewhisky.
You should think about the consequence of you touching my hand in the darkened room.
He pulled you closer to him by his grip on your hand. He wrapped his other arm around your shoulder and instinctively your head leaned on his shoulder.
You felt his breath hitch but you chose not to say anything.
"Someone was informed that McGonagall was on round, the candles will be lit again soon." He almost whispered to you. And just then the candles were lit again.
James expected you to draw away from him as soon as the candles were lit again but you didn't move from your position. Still wrapped around his side.
And he was definitely not complaining.
"James...dance with me?" You asked, lifting your head from his shoulder. You looked so innocent and adorable that he couldn't deny your face.
Or because of the fact that he was never in a lifetime going to lose this opportunity.
"Okay."
And just like that you both started to sway along the rhythm, so lost in your world that no one else existed for you two.
"You know what, you always scared me." He admitted, making you giggle.
"Why?" You asked, your head on his chest as he guided you both in a swaying way.
"First, you are Remus's sister, second, you are damn good with your tongue." It took him a while to understand what he said but till you were in a giggling fit. You were laughing so hard that you had to hold him so you wouldn't fall.
"Wait—wait, I didn't mean it like that!" He exclaimed, his hand wrapped around yours which was holding his shoulder. But you couldn't stop laughing, and that resulted in you missing the smile on his face.
When you finally stopped, you looked up to find him waving to someone. Following his gaze, you found a beautiful brunette from Ravenclaw giggling and waving at him.
Something inside you bubbled, whether it was the alcohol in your system or you were actually being brave that time, you nudged his arm and made him look at you.
"Is she your girlfriend?"
His eyes widened at your words, he whipped his head between you and that girl before shaking it violently.
"Merlin, no! She's actually the daughter of one of Mum's friends."
"Oh."
James looked at you and the way your shoulders visibly relaxed at words and your head went between his shoulder and neck, resting there.
"If it makes you feel better, I'm single."
You again, moved your head from his shoulder and this time he found an adorable pout on your lips.
"It doesn't." You said. He raised an eyebrow and said,
"It doesn't?" And you shook your head.
"It's worse actually, because you are so gorgeous that it hurts."
Your eyes fixed at his face, and even intoxicated, you were able to appreciate his beauty. He was gorgeous in every way, he was a good person, he had an aura around him that made everyone around him happy, one of the reasons you hated him, he was beautiful. He was gorgeous. And his eyes, his eyes were enough to make you feel like, sinking, drowning, dying.
"Don't I make you feel happy?"
"You make me feel so happy that it turns back to sadness," your bottom lip jutting out.
"There's nothing I hate more than what I can't have, and you why? Because all my life, I lost so many things that I don't want to hope for what I can't have. And I'm so furious at you for making me feel like this."
James moved his hand and rested it on your cheek, making you look at him, he chuckled.
"It's not funny." You said, removing his hand from your cheek. Again resting on your head on his shoulder.
James kept swaying you both, still processing everything that had happened in such a less amount of time. He was slowly feeling you relax around him, the whole night taking a toll on you.
"Hey, honey, you can't sleep like that." He said lowly to you. When you didn't budge, he nudged your head from his shoulder,
"Don't sleep like that." He said, making a frown take over your lips.
"I'm not asleep, my mind is alive." You grumbled in a sleepy voice. You felt his shoulder shake from the soft laugh escaping his lips, making you look up at him.
James could see the exhaustion and sleep in your eyes and decided that it was about time, you both called it a night.
"Alright, I think it's time you leave."
A frown formed on your lips, removing any traces of the sleepy face that you had. A dramatic sigh left your lips, you said,
"Guess, I have to stumble home to my cats. Alone."
"Y/N, you don't have any cat, and you just need to go to your dorm." James said, too used to these kinds of antics, all because of a certain Gryffindor.
You pouted, moving yourself to hug him and resting your head again on his shoulder.
"But, Remus always takes me with him, whenever I'm drunk."
"Yeah, but I'm not Remus, and he might actually murder me for doing so."
You looked up at him, trying your best to do puppy-dog eyes. Your idea seemed to work as he sighed in defeat.
"Alright, but if Remus kills me in the morning, it will be your fault."
It took time but you both finally reached the Marauders dorm, and there was only one person there. Peter, and he too was sleeping.
James took you and made you sit on one of the beds in the corner. He was still standing over you, looking quite flustered. You ran a hand on the messy bed sheet and looked up at him again to find him filling a glass with water.
"Is this Remus's bed?" You asked.
"Yeah." He said before handing you the glass of water, which you quickly downed and handed him the glass back.
James crouched in front of you and started removing your footwears. You ran a hand through his dark curls and giggled when they got messier than before.
When he was done, he looked up at you, still sitting in the same position, he asked,
"You can sleep here now, Remus will manage, or at least Sirius would be happy to share his bed."
You pouted again at his words, making him frown a bit.
"What happened now?"
"You won't kiss me?" Your question took him by surprise. He didn't expect you to say that.
"What do you mean?"
You tilted your head at side and said,
"You don't like me?" Your voice was small, making him feel bad.
"Is it because of my scars?" Your eyes were slowly filling with tears making James panic. He jumped up and sat beside you, and quickly took your face between his hands. You were slowly sniffing till then, making his heart hurt.
"No darling, why would you think that?"
"My previous boyfriend left me because of that, didn't he?"
James pursued his lips at the thought of your previous boyfriend, remembering how heartbroken you looked that day.
"It's not because of that, love. It's because you are drunk." You scrunched your nose at his words and said,
"Did you just quote those stupid clichè books?"
He raised an eyebrow and said,
"I do remember you loving those cliche books."
"But, I want you to kiss me now." You said while your lower lip jutting out.
"How about, I kiss you in the morning?" He said with a hopeful look on his face.
You whined at his words,
"But James, I am sober enough to remember this."
He sighed in defeat knowing how bad it can get. After a while he said,
"Okay, so I will give you a peck on your forehead right now, then in the morning, I will actually kiss you?" That seemed to work and you quickly agreed. So that night James kissed your forehead and made you fall asleep. And still in your sleepy form, you actually told him how you felt for him,
"You are so gorgeous James."
Bonus:-
When you woke up the next day, you found yourself reliving all those things you did the night before and it certainly didn't help with your headache. You got up from the bed, trying your best to escape before things could get more awkward.
You almost reached the door when someone said your name,
"Y/N?"
You cringed, totally aware of the person to whom the voice belonged.
You turned around and came face to face with your worst fear. You opened your mouth to say something but he cut you off,
"Don't worry, everyone is downstairs. You were sleeping, so I thought it would be better to leave you. I didn't want you to commit an arson as soon as you woke, I have seen the way Moony gets if you wake him up early."
Suddenly there was an awkward silence settled between you two as there was nothing else to say. You clutched your head to stop the throbbing pain in your head.
James noticed this and made you sit on his bed. When you did, he took the spot beside you and handed you a vial. You looked at him confused, the he explained,
"Hangover potion, er—we kind of need it really often." He rubbed the back of his neck, embarrassed. You tried to stop the smile forming on your face and drank the potion.
"Y/N?" He asked, his voice soft, full of warmth. You hummed, your heart beating wildly in your chest.
"Did you mean everything you said last night?"
You turned to face him, only then realising how close you two were. You started feeling lost again in his eyes, so you just hummed.
"Even about the kiss?" He whispered.
"Even about the kiss." And just like that his lips were on yours, moving gently and slowly, afraid that this moment might get lost if used in heat.
Your lips parted after what felt like an eternity, but even that didn't seem enough. He rested his forehead on yours then he said,
"You are so gorgeous, my love."

Afterglow (A Bucky Barnes AU fan fiction) - Chapter 10
Afterglow chapters
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x reader
A/N: Thank you guys so much for the support and feedback! I'm so glad you're enjoying this fanfic <333 Feel free to like, reblog and comment. Would love to hear more of your thoughts! Love u guys <3
CHAPTER TEN
Just like last time he was here, Bucky grabbed some cereal box, poured the contents on a bowl followed by a tall glass of milk dumped over, making a mess on the kitchen island like a ten-year-old kid. You just finished changing into some new clothes when he finished pouring the milk in the bowl.
You followed into the kitchen, pouring yourself a hot cup of coffee from Peter's new coffee maker he got just two weeks ago and cleaned the mess that Bucky had left.
"How is it," you started just as he was about to walk out, "that you can flawlessly make a drink without making a huge mess but not with a cereal?"
He plopped down on the couch and placed his feet on the coffee table and turned on the television. He shrugged in response, eating a mouthful. "I was just trying to impress you. You're Peter's best friend. I want you to like me."
You just hummed and sat down on the love seat as soon as you finished, lifting your knee to your chest and letting the warm liquid slide at the back of your throat, letting the caffeine sit in me. You gave him no response as you didn't know what else to tell him. You just gazed at him, watching him like a hawk, as he continued to take a mouthful.
But you weren't staring at him like you did before. You were, somehow, trying to read his mind because the person sitting right now on your couch felt and looked so much different from the person who kept giving you lingering stares at the bar. One moment he was complimenting your photos, and the next your face. It felt like there were two of him and you didn't know which one attracted you more.
No one had ever looked at your photos the way he did. No one had ever talked about your photos the way he did. And no one had ever succeeded in getting a sudden yet fleeting internal reaction from you by calling you "doll."
"It's rude to stare, doll."
Except Bucky.
You apologized, and averted your gaze from him towards the television screen which showed the news channel. You took a huge sip of your coffee and ignored the searing pain of the hot liquid on the roof of your mouth. That's gonna leave a mark.
You hibernated inside your room for the next few hours, watching some sitcom on your laptop. You would hear Bucky yelling at the television screen from time to time or into his phone. Some names unfamiliar to you were mentioned. You hated the feeling of isolating yourself from the world but here you were, cocooning because you didn't know how else to be around Bucky after what happened that one night.
Plus, it felt like you were a child stuck with your babysitter.
He would knock on your door, check up on you, ask you if you needed some snacks, or if you wanted to do anything else besides locking yourself up in your room. The last time he called out for you, he was asking you to lunch, to the little Italian place across the building. Starving, you agreed to come with him only if he paid.
He just shook his head with a smile on his face. "I feel like you're taking advantage of me."
"I am." You said, locking the apartment door behind. "It's not like everyday I'm out with a rich guy."
"You gotta stop calling me that. I'm not rich rich."
"Compared to me, Buck," you said, "you are. Come on, let's go, I'm starving."
Just as you anticipated, Marco was beaming at you two once you entered his place, clearing a way for you, parting the customers like Moses did with the Red Sea. He pulled out two chairs for you and Bucky. Marco, as you assumed, was more than happy to see Bucky and more of his money. Bucky shook hands with Marco, thanking him.
Once you ordered, you turned towards Bucky who was busy looking at the photos of the gorgeous places in Italy on the walls. There was a bridge of silence between you as you continued to stare at him, still trying to read him. He may be an open book but it felt like his pages were complete blanks. Pages that were deep, far away from the cover, hidden and hoping to never see the light of day.
"Hey, Bucky?" you said, grabbing his attention. "What did you mean that night? When you told me I was something else? And please, don't give me one of those 'you're not like most girls' crap." You gave a snort of disgust.
He chuckled, biting the inner part of his lower lip before speaking. "I wasn't, anyway. You just intrigue me, that's all."
You subtly glance at him. "I intrigue you?"
"Yes, honestly you do. And you're fun to be with. It's not everyday someone agrees with me to scare off a one night stand the first day we meet." He laughed. "And I would like to get to know you better. And not just here."
You knitted your brows together in utter confusion. "Wait, what do you mean not just here?"
He shrugged, his eyes leaving yours and looked at somewhere else besides you. "Like outside."
"Like outside?" You repeated, the realization dawning on you. "Bucky, are you asking me out on a date?"
Bucky lifted his head and proceeded to look at the spotty ceiling, his lips curved downward. "If you want it to be."
You chuckled, shaking your head. "I don't think it's a good idea."
Then, he shot his head towards you, an agonizing frown marring his perfectly chiseled face. "Why not?"
You could think of many reasons why it would be a bad idea. First, you haven't been on a date for a very long time. Every person who had asked you out never had the luck of receiving a good answer from you. Second, Bucky was a complicated man.
And third, it would feel like betraying Peter.
"You're Peter's stepbrother." You sighed, defeated. "I can't do that to him."
"Right. Peter."
Marco came just about damn time to give you your newly-cooked food. Bucky ordered the same thing he got last time he was here: an Aglio Oglio pasta, paired with two large slices of pizza and garlic bread while you got a footlong Italian sub dripping with Marco's secret family sauce he never dared reveal. Marco said something in Italian before going back to the counter to tend to other customers.
Bucky smiled at you before you started digging in and began to speak. "How about this? Just two friends hanging out, not in the apartment, not here, not even at the bar, and getting to know one another. No funny business. Just like this. How does that sound?"
"As long as you promise not to give me those weird creepy stares you've been giving me since last night."
"Please, you also couldn't keep your eyes off me." He rolled his eyes. "Plus, I do have to admit you do look hot making drinks." He scrunched up his nose, taking a bite of his pizza without his eyes leaving yours.
A wave of confidence surged right through you, prompting you to ask this next question: "Did the whole cleavage thing push things?" You winked.
Bucky tilted his head to the side, just like he did this morning in the apartment, swallowing his food. "I'm not gonna lie, doll, that was also pretty hot."
"You should thank my friend Nat for that then."
He smirked. "I'll be sure to. So, uh, are you in?"
"What kind of question is that?"
"Well, I don't know how you kids these days ask things. Is it like that? I feel like it is."
You rolled your eyes, chucking a piece of garlic bread to his face. "I'm not a kid. By the way, how old are you?"
"I'm turning thirty-nine next month."
"Thirty-nine." You repeated. "Wow, if we were to go on a date, you'd be the oldest guy I've dated."
"Well, I'd be honored."
After your little lunch, Bucky went back to his office in his penthouse to deal with a few things with his associates while you, on the other hand, headed to the bar and started to fix all the stuff accordingly. A few hours later, Nick and Nat silently creeped up behind you, scaring the shit out of you and nearly making you drop the bottle of whiskey you were holding. You scolded both of them which they just, in turn, shrugged off.
You pulled Nat into one of the booths, making sure you were out of Nick's sight and wouldn't be able to hear you.
"Bucky kind of asked me out on a date." You whispered.
"Holy shit, I knew it. I knew he has the hots for you!" She said with a voice louder than you would've liked.
"Sshh, keep your voice down! I don't want Nick to hear this."
"Oh right, 'cause of the whole thing."
"Yes." You replied. "So anyway, I told Bucky it wouldn't be a good idea because it feels like I'm betraying Parker."
"He's just his stepbrother. Honey, you wouldn't be betraying anyone at all."
"But Parker's my best friend -- "
"Exactly." Nat's eyes bore into yours. "He's just your best friend, not your boyfriend so go date whoever you want to date. Just not Nick. He's kind of a loser."
"Isn't there some kind of code?"
"Like a bro code?"
"Yes, something like that."
"Did you and Peter have an agreement that you shouldn't date his stepbrother?"
You shook your head no.
"Then it's okay."
"Isn't dating your friend's siblings a part of some unspoken rule?"
She rolled her eyes at you, obviously fed up with all the excuses you have been trying to make. "As long as you're not hurting anyone then it's fine."
An exasperated sigh came out of your mouth. "Well, Bucky seemed to kind of agree to it, so what was supposed to be a date turned into just friends hanging out and getting to know each other. His words, not mine."
"Right, and once you get to know each other, you two can go on expensive dates and such."
"I don't know, it doesn't feel right."
"Now, now, don't be too sudden with that thought. Deep down you kind of want this to happen. If you didn't, you wouldn't be having second thoughts about this."
Oh, what you would give to prove Nat wrong but there was nothing else you could give because you knew she was right. You were fleetingly staring at Bucky as much as he did with you. And right from the get-go, there was spontaneity which opened up a whole new thrill in you. Something you never thought you'd ever feel.
The rest of the night felt excruciatingly slow.
There were some familiar faces in the crowd and some unfamiliar ones brought in by the regulars, having fun on Saturday night. While you were taking orders and making drinks left and right, your eyes kept roaming in the nameless faces inside the bar, hoping to see Bucky but your hopes were crushed when you found no sign of him. You were forced to take your mind off him for once as you were flooded with more orders, and complicated drinks that weren't on the menu. In the middle of your shift, there was even a small argument between a college student and a man in his thirties at the pool table. Eventually, the man, assaulting the poor boy, got kicked out of the house by Steve which was just a piece of cake with all the muscles he was packing.
Steve approached you with a stern look on his face. "If you see that guy again, don't let him in anymore alright? I don't want any fights in my bar."
"Got it." You said, taking note of the man's face from earlier. You warned the other bartenders beside you and the waitresses going around. You sighed, thinking to all the times you've told Steve to hire bouncers for the place but he just said:
"What do you need bouncers for when I'm here?"
And it was kind of hard to argue with that because it did make sense. The only problem was he was always cooped up in that small office of his. You never bothered to learn the secrets he was keeping in there. He couldn't always be doing work stuff. But after a few weeks of working with him, it was best to let those things slide as he was your boss.
Once your shift ended, you texted Bucky where he was but you never got a reply. You exchanged numbers right before he went back to the White Wolf.
You were greeted by an unlocked apartment once you got there but there was no sign of Bucky.
"Bucky?" You called out his name as you removed your jacket and placed it on the coat rack just beside the door. "Are you here?"
Silence answered you back. You went into your room and changed your shirt into something a bit more comfortable: an oversized sweater. A few seconds after you changed, you received a message from Bucky telling you to go to the rooftop.
You immediately went up, the chilly New York air touching your cheeks. You emerged from the ladder with a bewildered look crossing your face. The once grimy floor of the rooftop was perfectly cleaned up, leaving no dust and dirt behind. There were two large crates in the middle, big enough for two people to sit on. On top of the crate were a large box of pizza (you assumed it was from Marco's), and two bottles of ice cold beer.
"What on earth?" You gasped, finding Bucky emerging from behind a big box just casually standing against the brick walls.
"Hey, doll." He greeted you with a cheeky smile.
You stepped towards him, enveloping yourself in a hug in an attempt to warm yourself up against the cool air. "Did you clean our rooftop?"
"I may or may not have. Who knows? Anyway, I got us some pizza. I figured you were hungry from your late shift."
As a matter of fact, you really were. Drained from the endless orders and demands, you usually didn't have the time to sneak a bite of food or even a sip of water.
"I got the pizza from Marco's. He's a really nice man and was more than glad to see me when I stopped by."
"Of course he was." you laughed, sitting down on one of the crates. You opened the box, your mouth already drooling from the sight of Marco's mouth-watering pizza. "He likes the dough. Ha! Get it?"
He rolled his eyes at you but with a hint of a small smile in his lips as joined you on the crates. "So, are you gonna spend the night in the apartment?" You asked.
"Yes."
"What, got another girl back in the penthouse?" You teased, nudging his shoulder.
He gave you a throaty, sarcastic laugh. "This time, no."
"Too bad. I was ready to give a performance of a lifetime." You chuckled, glancing at him sideways and catching him with a big smile on his face.
You looked around you. The only source of light you had was the city lights towering above, and ahead of you. "You know," you started, "if you hung those little lights on the walls or just above us, this would seem like a date."
He pretended to wipe some sweat off his forehead. "Phew, dodged a bullet over there huh?"
You giggled, tipping the cap off the ice cold light beer and bringing the top of the bottle to your mouth. The liquid felt cold in your mouth but soon warmed up, nestling inside your stomach.
"This is nice." you commented then started to ramble on some more. "It'd be nicer to see New York during sunset though. Ever since I got the night shift in the bar, I rarely do. It's all the traffic and bright city lights."
You painted Bucky a picture of the last sunset you've watched. You had no recalling memory when it was but you remembered it as another cold day (but not as cold as tonight). The colorful sunset hues plastered in the high skies. Seeing it from the rooftop felt like they could easily be reached, as if they were wanting to be touched. And without a warning, the sun started to go down millisecond by millisecond.
"To others, what happens after a sunset is just another sign of the darkness to come. And then poof, city lights." you continued, then proceeded to gesture at the sky. "But for me, the feeling after a sunset is what I love the most. The sun wallowed in serenity in the pale break of light in between those dark clouds forming. Ugh, I just love that."
"I see what you mean." Bucky hummed, withdrawing his eyes to the sky to look at you. "It's like an afterglow."
"Yes, like an afterglow." You agreed, meeting his intense gaze. "If seeing something so beautiful makes you feel good then the after of it all must be... more pleasurable."
"A lot of people tend to miss that detail after sunset." He replied. "But not you. You're a photographer, y/n. The details in nature, in people are some things you can never miss."
You just hummed in response, taking a huge sip of your beer. " So, when did your love for photography start?" Bucky asked.
"It started when I was young." You replied. "I would play around with my parents' digital cameras, take photos of literally everything around me, especially when we were on vacation. It was just a hobby then. I never thought of it as a means of living until I was in college. God, I hated business school. Every second of it. I just did it to make my parents happy but I really wanted to be out there, embracing people, embracing everything in life. It's like -- "
"Capturing people's stories in a different light?" He continued for you, as if reading your mind.
"Exactly." You smiled, quite happy that he saw it the way you usually did.
"If it wasn't for the hotel business I also would've been an artist. Maybe an actor."
"So, why didn't you?"
"Because business is all I know." He sighed. "Tony Stark, the guy who adopted me, taught me everything there was to know. As he was building his empire, he pulled me towards it and now, I'm running one of his hotels. Y'know, I don't think of him as a father or anything. More like a friend, a wingman."
And just like that, Bucky peeled himself like an onion. Slowly. Layer by layer by layer. But then he stopped. He opened his mouth to say more but then he decided to stop. You waited but nothing else came out. As much as he wanted to know you, you too wanted to know him — and not just his wild adventures but the things that were deeper than that.
It felt nice to talk to Bucky this way. Actually, it wasn't just nice. It was very comfortable that it gave you a warm sensation on your chest.
Seeing that he wasn't as comfortable as he was before opening up, you steered to a different topic. "Have you ever felt that kind of feeling?" you asked.
"What feeling?"
"The afterglow feeling."
"No," he chuckled, "I don't think so. I'm stuck in a routine, y/n. Business, party, booze, girls. Nothing exciting, nothing out of the ordinary. Everything's the same, everything feels like nothing after."
You agreed with him. "I guess I'm also stuck in a rut." You harmonized with his laughter, seeing your life flash before your eyes. "Cheers to that."
With that, you drank the night away.

Mother figure
The world has changed a lot that even strangers with whom you went a long way till the end can be called as someone very close to them. Like parents, sibling, soulmate, and many other names. It's a common thing for mortals. But even I didn't expect to receive one of these names too. On one of the weekends, me, Cornelia and her companion Zora decided to organise a human thing called vacation. Well, a vacation for her, as Death never rests from duties. As it was a crowded place near the sea, I had to take my mortal disguise. We were walking along the coast, admiring the lively nature. Little waves splashed the sand, making it comfortable for heat sensitive creatures. Zora tho was hiding under Cornelia's head on the shoulder, to which she giggled.
Madam Death: Even birds can't stand under the long and strong sunbath.
I smiled as Cornelia agreed with me. Zora agreed with it too. Then Cornelia noticed several shells lying on the ground. Judging by her expression, a sudden idea came to her mind. We stopped as Cornelia pointed at them, looking at me with sparkling eyes.
Madam Death: Want to collect some? I won't stop you. I will be here in case you need me.
Cornelia's face looked puzzled, like she was asking if i don't want to join her. I gave a soft giggle.
Madam Death: It's not about me not wanting to do it. Just as an entity outside of this world I prefer to admire the life going around and not interfere. But like I said, I will not be far from you.
Cornelia looked at Zora as they shrugged their shoulders and she happily ran towards shells with her companion. Even tho I never understood the matter of such action, there is no rule that forbides doing it. Childhood exists for it. I have never felt the feeling of being a child. As death, I exist without any preferences, impassive, neutral to everything. I can understand everything and nothing, remember everything and nothing. But feelings manage to surprise me even after millions of years. Like the sudden wave of memories. Every time my skeleton feet walk along the sand, I remember times when I was watching over a young archangel, whose spark didn't vanish even after all the things he had faced. Did my influence leave an impact on him? Maybe. It should not worry me much, and yet I couldn't help, but wonder if...even I became someone relative to him. I would wander in my thoughts for a good long time if not a melodic chirp of Zora, calling me. Cornelia and Zora came to me with the bag full of different shells, while holding a sea shell on the hands. Cornelia lands it to me.
Madam Death: Oh, is it for me? It's so sweet of you, Cornelia. But why?
She looked at me, pointing that I should put this shell close to my ear, adding that like this I could hear sounds of the ocean. Of course there was no sound in it, and yet I did what she asked me to do. It's not like death doesn't have ears, just without a specific form they're invisible. And then I heard those sounds that I will remember for a long time, said in a language of the sea.
"I love you, mom."
Not going to lie, even I was stunned, paralized by these sounds. I looked at Cornelia and Zora, who shined with their smiles.
Madam Death: I...Is it addressed to me?
They nodded.
Madam Death: But why? I'm the creature of death, the impassive and humble entity. I have not much experience in parenting and things that are connected with family.
Cornelia and Zora looked at each other and they explained me the reason behind such action.
"I understand that it was a bit unusual for you, but...I really think about you that way. You will never replace my original mother and father, that's true. But despite being neutral and humble, you took me under your protection, under your guidance. You took care of me like any kind person would do. You saw something special in me. I'm not an ordinary child anymore. Plus, you shared to me stories with you and Lucifer. Yeah, I guessed that the lady you were talking about in your stories was you. Because only you could notice the spark in children like me. Only you can still show an interest and admiration despite your nature and duties. You just do it in your own way. And that's enough for me to call you like this, to consider you as a close, umm...creature to me. And because of it, I made such small surprise. For you".
She smiled to me as Zora chirped in agreement. I couldn't find the words to express what was boiling inside me. I was not supposed to be defeated by such emotions, and yet here I am. All attempts to stay neutral ended in fail. My tears were betraying me, making Cornelia and Zora be worried. I held this shell so close to my ear. After couple of seconds I managed to calm down and reply with my standard manner.
Madam Death: It's so....so sweet of you, Cornelia. Despite me being not from your realm, you still see me as someone you could lay your trust on. No language has enough words to express my gratitude to you and Zora.
I opened my arms for a hug and Cornelia, as expected, accepted such gesture. Zora sang so happily as joined us in a heartwarming moment. When we finished, I asked Cornelia to put this shell in her bag, so that when we come back home, we could find a special place for it.
Madam Death: Tho, I wonder how you mannaged to create, and moreover keep this message in the shell.
Cornelia revealed me the secret behind the gift: she and Zora were practicing the morse code in order to communicate with each other, and so she decided to use it for the message. Maybe the shell was perfect or there was a little trick behind it, the message was kept save and sound. She becomes more and more like an adult, but also staying a bit childish. My skull smiled.
Madam Death: I'm glad to hear that you use your time to study different things to use in your life. You did wonderful.
She smiled shyly, adding that there is still a long way to go. It was underatandable, but even this little practice already shows how skillfull she is. We kept walking along the coast and have a nice time on our vacation. Who would've known that such usual walk near the sea for me will turn into something that will be cherished for a very long time. Still, it somehow gave me one more reason to exist.
