Yeah. I also hate how whenever people critique 12 Donnie's behavior around April 12 Donnie fans fucking hate SO hard on April. Like yeah she might've handled the whole feelings thing wrong, but Donnie did not hesitate to start manipulating her and trying to control her from the beginning. Like he threw a fit whenever she didn't behave exactly the way he wanted her to. Don't freaking act April started that toxic shit
Also friendly reminder: she was a TEENAGER who's father got kidnapped by aliens, and got swept up into a war with her new friends. Which is a hell of a stressful situation to be in. Let alone trying to navigate a romantic subplot you're heavily pressured into.
I love 12 Donnie but I would not hesitate to beat some sense into him
Sorry, rant over
I personally think the writers did Donnie so dirty
Like, he could’ve been the best!! And then they had to make him creepy obsessed over April!! What’s up with that!!
I love 12 Donnie but also I would not hesitate to run him over with my car /aff
#12 April haters dni#12 Donnie apologists dni#just don't#im just rewatching the show and can not stand April hate#like the main 5 are all super flawed but everybody just wants to focus on April#you can love a character while realizing their behavior was fucked up#i swear y'all hate her mostly cause she's a girl#she could've been written better but they ALL could've

COMIC TEA PARTY- WEEK LONG BOOK CLUB START!
Hello and welcome everyone to Comic Tea Party’s Week Long Book Club~! This week we’ll be focusing on Ghost Junk Sickness by Kristen Lee and Laura Lee~! (http://www.ghostjunksickness.com/)
You are free to read and comment about the comic all week at your own pace, so stop on by whenever it suits your schedule! Remember, though, that while we allow constructive criticism, our focus is to have fun and appreciate the comic. Below you will find four questions to get you started on the discussion. However, a new question will be posted and pinned everyday (between 12:01AM and 6AM PDT), so keep checking back for more! You have until September 15th to tell us all your wonderful thoughts! With that established, let’s get going on the reading and the chatting!
QUESTION 1. What has been your favorite scene in the comic so far? What specifically did you like about it?
QUESTION 2. What reason, if any, do you think is behind Vahn’s red eyes and strange tattoos? For that matter, why do you think Vahn’s health is in such shambles and their tattoos constantly bleed? What does all this have to do with Vahn’s lack of memories and nightmares?
Capitania do Azar
1. My favourite scene is Boggs introduction, which I think it's super well executed (actually, that entire chapter is just ), I mean http://www.ghostjunksickness.com/comic/4-11 ? Good content right here
2. I figure those things are all related, yes, and I'm dying to know in which way and why. However, if I were to make an educated guess, I'd go and say Vahn was in a cult (highly unliky, but IMAGINE that) or at least implicated on something of the sort. Vahn's character is one of the big mysteries that makes this comic so interesting, in my opinion. Trigger hardly reacts to those tattoos and their bleeding, so figures that if he doesn't know how they came to be or what they mean, he knows something.
RebelVampire
QUESTION 3. At the moment, who is your favorite character? What about that character earns them this favor?
QUESTION 4. Do you believe that June 7 can be saved, or is Fiachra right in that everyone should leave? If it can be saved, what do you think it will take? Further, do you believe Nyr and Alberich even get the chance to do so?(edited)
RebelVampire
QUESTION 5. What has been your favorite illustration in the comic so far? What specifically about it do you like?
QUESTION 6. What do you think exactly caused June 7 to be destroyed? Do you think this ties into current events? If so, how? If not, do you think the characters will ever figure out the cause behind the catastrophe?
Capitania do Azar
3. Favourite Character is a very tough one. Everyone's got a lot of personality here, so it's very hard for me to pick.. But I'm gonna go with Boggs, because she seems to be the most grounded. For all her flaws, she seems to have at least some sort of stability around her, especially if compared to Trigger and Vahn. PS: Trigger is a mess and I love him, even tho the first time I read this comic I really disliked like 90% of what he did. A second read made me softer on my views, but that boy still a mess PPS: Vahn
4. I think from a political standpoint, maybe it's not salvageable... But people have been and will keep on living on it, so does it really need saving? A lot of things have detrioriated, yes, but people are still living on it and it's not getting worse as far as I can see it, so.... But it could be deemed a project hard to back, and maybe it's easier to just call quits and leave, but I personally don't see that happening.
Capitania do Azar
5. Oh, do I have to pick just one? Because I could easily pick all the chapter covers!! The interior arts are also getting progressively better as the story goes, and the choice of halftones is But I love this page, it gives me them feels http://www.ghostjunksickness.com/comic/10-34
6. I can go full-on crazy theorist on this and say that it looks like Vahn has something to do with it, even if they don't really realize or remember it and I'm also gonna say that I got the feeling The Ghost is up there somewhere also participating in this business. Also yes, I think it's gonna come into play eventually and our main characters are gonna have to deal with some harshness on that front (no way something like that could be pretty or easy to deal with).
RebelVampire
1) My favorite scene is probably when Trigger panics about Vahn getting kidnapped and rushing after Vahn to try and save them. Trigger...Trigger is a very flawed character. Boggs is not wrong for calling Trigger out, and Trigger is real shit at expressing emotions. But in that moment? Man, Trigger was ripped raw and we finally got to see that nah, he really, really, really does care. He's just a screwed up individual with a lot of demons in the closet. It was a beautiful moment of character growth if short lived. 2) Honestly, I'm kind of on the same page as @Capitania do Azar in thinking that there's cult stuff going on. Maybe Vahn was meant to be some sacrifice to Vivian or something. Only because Vahn wasnt sacrificed but was fully prepped for it, they're stuck with the bleeding tattoos cause that tattoos really want them sacrifices to be happening. As for the nightmares and lack of memories, I assume Vahn's escape from whoever had them before was not a peaceful and mutual lets go our separate ways sort of thing.
3) My favorite character is ambassador Nyr because Nyr is tiny and wise and very adorable. And like, how can you not like Nyr? Just wants everybody to be happy and careful. 4) I think June 7 can be "saved" but that depends on your definition of saved. Like, the phrase "Rome wasn't built in a day" comes to mind. It will never be what it was, and I think for people like Fiachra, that means it's trash. But I think everyone could get the planet to a place where there's less crime and shortages. That being said, I am skeptical Nyr and Alberich will get a chance to do so. I'm pretty sure this is gonna end with the planet getting more messed up cause some politicians think they know what's best despite not even really being around much.
5) My fave illustration is definitely the first panel on this page http://www.ghostjunksickness.com/comic/10-32. There's a great blend between detail, atmsophere, particles, and blurs in the distance. It makes for a really ethereal view that makes you go, "Yup, Boggmouth was right." 6) Once again, cult stuff. Probably the same cult stuff Vahn was in. Maybe because Vahn wasn't sacrificed to Vivian right everything went haywire and the phenomenon happened cause there was excess energy just released into the world. Or something like that. But I definitely think regardless of the answer, the characters will find out. I would be surprised if there was nothing to it given things we've learnt about it through Andrew.
RebelVampire
QUESTION 7. Which characters do you enjoy seeing interact the most? What about their dynamic interests you?
QUESTION 8. Who do you think the Ghost is, and what is the source of their mysterious appearance and abilities? How does this tie into Vahn given the Ghost had a picture of Vahn? Given material found, how might this also tie into the Crane woman?
Capitania do Azar
6) @RebelVampire oh I like your sacrificial takes, I didn't think of that
Capitania do Azar
7. Interactions between Trigger and Vahn are super interesting and they leave me wondering about so many things, as there's clearly something unstated going on there. Then, Trigger and Boggmouths' are the best because they're so wild no context is needed, ever ahah
8. I think Vahn and Ghost are related somehow, maybe deeper than we know... The Ghost sure is happy to have found them!! And that implies some sort of connection. Figures that should be connected to Vahn's past that we don't know off, their uncharacteristic abilities and maybe even to the destructive events on the planet. And also people did mention that there were some physical similarities, which also make me wonder very much about exactly what kind of connection could there be between the two! (who knows, maybe they were on the same cult)
RebelVampire
QUESTION 9. What sorts of art or story details have you noticed in the way the comic is crafted that you think deserves attention?
QUESTION 10. Why do you think Trigger is declaring he’s in trouble after saving Vahn? What do you think caused him to get into trouble? Further, why do you think Trigger is pushing Vahn away? Is it anger, or is there something else going on? Will he get out of trouble?
RebelVampire
7) I definitely like seeing Vahn and Trigger interact the most. Their relationship exists in this weird place between warm and tumultuous, which makes each interaction between them kind of fascinating. I also kind of feel they bring out the worst and best each other at the same time, which is not something you usually see. Like the only real way I have to describe their relationship is "It's a mess." XD 8) I think perhaps the Ghost is one of the few survivors from the catastrophe, and that whatever happened, the Ghost got mysterious powers from it. Perhaps the Ghost was a cult member if I continue to go with the cult theory. And going with the cult theory, I assume that's how the Ghost knows Vahn, maybe even helped kidnap Vahn from wherever Vahn is from. And the Ghost wants Vahn cause Vahn's sacrifice be needed or something like that. O_O I'm just spitballing mostly.
9) Honestly, the backgrounds. Like those are some nice details on the buildings, random objects, etc. There's a lot of world character going on, and the characters definitely feel integrated into their own world because of it. I feel this comic goes past even what makes for a passable background and takes it a step beyond,, which is always admirable. 10) Honestly, I think Trigger got himself marked for death because he made a deal with the devil to save Vahn's life. And Trigger is pushing Vahn away both out of hurt because Vahn almost got themselves killed, but also cause Trigger doesn't want Vahn to get caught up in whatever his trouble is.
RebelVampire
QUESTION 11. What do you think are this particular comic’s strengths? What do you think makes this comic unique? Please elaborate.
QUESTION 12. What do you think happened to Andrew during the June 7 catastrophe, and what might this have to do with the death of others around him? Further, what do you make of Andrew’s promise to someone named Roderick?
Capitania do Azar
9. Concerning the art (and tbh, storywise a little bit too), I like it that the influences the authors pulled from are clear, but the work still screams very personal and unique. I love the care with which the backgrounds are populated, weather with characters or items that make everything feel very alive. I also really like how we are slowly knowing more about the characters, and how even the silly moments build up on them!
10. If I have not mentioned this before, I am under the suspicion that Trigger knows more than he lets on, particularly about Vahn. There's something about the way he treats them that goes beyond "oh I really care about them", you know? So figures there must be something else that that Trigger knows and we don't (and possible, not even Vahn). Now, I don't think Trigger is pushing Vahn away, at least not on purpose. I just think he's not good at dealing with emotions, his or otherwise, and that anger is a safer bet to make sure he's heard. As for getting out of trouble, I don't think so. Trigger getting in trouble is what this comic has been all about, aha
I assume that's how the Ghost knows Vahn, maybe even helped kidnap Vahn from wherever Vahn is from
@RebelVampire they're from space Scotland, obviously
11. Character Design, for once: all characters are instantly recognizable and even tho they're all so different from each other, they all somehow make sense in the context of the story and none of them seems out of place. There's some really good character design craft in there. I like the balance between goofy/fun advantures and darkness/complicated relationships. It's easier to fall into either extremely problematic relationships with no redeeming features that make you wonder why even the characters are together, to relationships where nothing goes wrong. Between Trigger and Vahn you can see there are good things and bad things, and that's really fresh. Other relationships in the comic are also portrayed very well and are interesting to follow.
12. Honestly, the Andrew plotline gets me a little confused, but I gotta admit it's because I wasn't following it so attentively as I was Trigger and Vahn. So that's my fault in there. But I'm really anxious to find out in which way it's gonna merge with the other plotlines, and how it'll relate to The Ghost's case, ehe
RebelVampire
QUESTION 13. What are you most looking forward to in the comic? Also, do you have any final thoughts to share overall?
QUESTION 14. Why do you think Trigger avoided Boggmouth after abandoning Boggmouth so many years ago? Was it shame, or is there something else going on with Trigger? What consequences do you think there will be for Vahn finding out this past history?
RebelVampire
11) For me, the comic's strengths is probably the world-building and illustration. I've mentioned this before, I believe, but there's just so much detail in regards to how the world is portrayed. From the character designs, the ship designs, to how the society functions and has its own command structure. It's a really fleshed out world that has its own character, so that makes it just as interesting as the character. Thus, any exposition never feels dull, cause it feels just like learning some key development info about a person. 12) Given some of the pieces, right now I think that the catastrophe drove Andrew insane, possibly some of the others, and he started killing people around him. And someone he wound up being the last one standing. With this Roderick dude perhaps being one of the last people Andrew offed or something. And the kid in the picture looks like Vahn, so I'm gonna assume Roderick told Andrew to look out for Vahn or something. Although timeline wise Roderick couldve died much earlier in life. IDK. I definitely think Andrew murdered some people and lives with regret though.
RebelVampire
13) I'm looking forward to getting back to Trigger cause I'm interested to see wtf is even going on with Trigger anymore. He's such an emotional wreck right now, and I want to find out why he's such an emotional wreck. 14) Honestly, I think Trigger avoided Boggmouth both out of self loathing and unsureness about how to approach it. Apologizing isn't easy at all. Even assuming you can let go of your pride regarding it, there's a decent chance the other party either won't accept your apology or will sometimes make you feel even worse, possibly for the rest of your life. And being sincerely sorry but never forgiven is frankly an awful feeling. And I kind of feel this is kind of Trigger's thought process. He feels bad, but how could he reasonably accept Boggmouth to forgive him? So instead of apologizing, he just doesn't deal with the problem because even if he does apologize, it won't fix anything. It probably won't even make him or Boggmouth feel better about it. So thus he stubbornly backs his own bullshit up because he's just not able to emotionally cope with accepting any of that. As for consequences regarding Vahn, I think very little. I think Vahn might confront Trigger about Trigger being mysterious and not sharing stuff like that. But Vahn seems pretty loyal to Trigger so I don't think they'll ditch Trigger for something like that.
Capitania do Azar
13. Right now, looking forward to see Trigger again and what would come off a confrontation between him and Vahn, now that Vahn knows about His Past™. I also can't wait to know more about arm-swapping cults that include planet-destroying ghosts and space Scotland.
14. I think Trigger was a coward, but I don't blame him. It was a very difficult situation, and he was under a lot of stress and didn't know what to do, and his bad side won. I think shame and an unwilling to confront himself is mostly what's behind him avoiding Boggs for so long. But the past does have a way to find you, so he can't expect to stay hidden forever. Ahahah! As for Vahn finding out, I'm a big with @RebelVampire here. I think they may feel hurt and distrustful of Trigger for a while, but at the same time, they have already endured a lot on that relationship and they probably understand it wasn't exactly a conscious decision. Vahn doesn't look like the type to hold grudges anyway

So I didn't read enough of Ghost Junk Sickness to really answer any of the questions I don't think, but I did want to say that I really enjoyed what I did read of it. I got like 20 pages in when the Comment Storm was going on and meant to go back and read more, but life's been crazy. Anyway, I think the main characters and their dynamic were cute/fun and I'm planning to just back into it at some point when I have more time. Also, I really liked big hammer lady! (I even left a comment saying so XD) I feel like she probably isn't important but I thought she was rad.

These are all such good and wholesome comments/answers, thank you all for enjoying Ghost Junk!!i especially loved reading the theories the most!!

hmmmmm thought: the spicy combination of irresponsible creators and social media fucked with fandom and created this virulent form of anti-shipping? long post
Consider:
Show creators, comic writers, people in charge of popular content of all sorts join Twitter and other social media, making it easy for there to be cross-communication between creators and fandom. This was possible before but not common until recently
I’m going to use Voltron as an example but there are many others. Basically this show gets big and popular and, in a way that would not have been possible previously, so do its writers and artists etc. They are not only known and popular, but accessible, and talk about their work on the show in public social media spaces
Fandom has often expressed to a small degree “Gosh I hope my ship becomes canon” but that wasn’t always the focus. Prior to fandoms like this, imagining that your ship would become canon was wishful thinking for anything short of a YA love triangle, because everything else was super uncertain
But more importantly: fans had little to no influence. When say Parks and Rec was being created, sure, fandom existed, but no big director was thinking, “hmm, there seem to be a lot of Leslie/Ann shippers, maybe we should change to that”. Which they wouldn’t have anyway because no way would NBC have dared at the time (or any time soon tbh), but the point is, zero (0) big executives of shows gave a fuck about fandom and just focused on a combination of the creators’ stories and what would keep people watching
Then creators like Voltron’s come in and suddenly fandom has influence. Or the illusion of it, anyway. I mean, these creators are right here, visible, talking openly, and at any point someone can send a tweet and say “hey make my ship canon”
I don’t think up until this point things are completely terrible, but this is where you start factoring in irresponsible creators. When they start reaching out and acting like fandom plays a part in their decision making, it doesn’t even matter at that point whether or not that’s the truth. Fandom starts to believe that this is the case. Artists make ship art, creators tweet out hints about what’s to come or what relationships they like, they retweet things.
This is, to me, irresponsible behavior, when the creator gets too close to the fandom like this. It’s too easy for them to jerk around emotions by teasing about topics fans are deeply invested in. It’s too easy for them to make a mistake and say something that ruins someone’s ability to claim death of the author and enjoy the material. They can make excuses for their shows flaws and, worse, try to argue with people on the internet when they disagree with them. Those people then too easily get hate-bombed by fans of the creator. In some cases, creators will become deaf to important criticism because they’re too busy ignoring all criticism, being too used to receiving unfair hatred.
I someday imagine being a creator myself and I think I would have to restrain myself heavily, because I don’t want to fall into these same traps. I would rather engage with fandom rarely or not at all, so that I might listen more closely to the real criticism and take it into consideration and improve as a writer and a person, and keep from harming the people who most love what I can do. But, back to the main point.
When fandom believes that they have influence over canon, you get the situation we’re in now. For this portion of young fandom that has grown up in this environment, shipping can become canon at any time. They might think, “If I shout and scream loud enough about how much I love this pairing, the creator will hear me and it will happen.”
Fandom wars have become more literal, because to some extent, there really is a war going on, one for the attention of the creators. It spurs hatred towards other ships, and people search for ways to tear them down, finding the tiniest, most hint of problematic chunks as ways to disprove their validity. There’s an element of purity/problematic culture in this as well, where because ships are things people actually want to happen, and actively work to make happen, suddenly if you’re shipping a ship with even a minor age difference, there’s a certain logic of, “this person wants this an age difference ship to be portrayed on TV where kids can see it!!! they’re going to get kids hurt!!!!”
And that’s ridiculous. Sometimes people ship things that aren’t healthy, sometimes people ship things that don’t make sense. Sometimes people ship things that would be horrible in real life, but are fun for them to think of in fiction, or helping them to work through a trauma, and they appropriately tag and content warn everything so nobody who finds that content horrifying has to see it. Sometimes people ship even a minor age difference in the sense of “oh but like, not right NOW, I don’t even want them to get together until they’re both like 5-10 years older!” Sometimes I even ship things where I explicitly don’t want them to be canon! (I’ve had too many things become canon and yet the media itself disappoints me greatly...)
Shipping isn’t an aspirational thing, it’s not something that means “I think this is romantic” or “this is okay in real life” or even just “I actively want my show/book/media/canon to get these people together.” It doesn’t mean any of those, it just means, “I find this relationship interesting.”
But now, in a world where these ships can become canon (but probably not really), just by making enough art or fic (still no, but they want us to believe it can because then they get attention and sales), do you see how there’s pressure for shipping to take on that new meaning?
Hell, it’s even just true for characters now. Of course “if you like x character, you’re wrong” is going to become an outlook if you associate liking a character with thinking that character is inherently good or worth showing to people all the time. (Oh yeah - you can like a character and acknowledge that they’re bad. In fact, please do. You’re going to drive everybody up a wall if you like a character and never admit to those flaws.)
The idea that ships are INTENDED to become something real and presented to the whole audience is not only wrong, but often kind of gross. Fandom can’t exist healthily in an environment where fanworks are now participation in some kind of fandom hunger games where everybody except the media creators loses. Fanworks need to exist for themselves, for the sheer joy in saying, “I’m interested in this thing,” regardless of the material that inspired them.
So these are the take-aways for me:
Public media creators who engage heavily with the fandom, tease it and play with their hopes, are acting irresponsibly. I put more of the blame on them than on fandom in some ways, especially for younger fans just experiencing fandom for the first time. The rest of these tips are aimed at fans because I strongly doubt big media creators are reading this post, and any tips I have for them about this would be pointless.
Tagging content and putting warnings on it is, as always, vitally important. Not promoting unhealthy behavior is also important, but can live side-by-side with content that includes it. Fandom creators who fail to do this are irresponsible and/or deliberately harming people and kids especially.
Hey: don’t draw child porn! Thanks! The point above is not about that though.
Fans need to keep in mind that shipping doesn’t mean making something canon, or at least, doesn’t only mean it, and thinking that it does makes it easy for people to send hate, cause trouble, encourage bullying, etc.
Your ship can co-exist with other people’s ships. It’s okay to believe yours is the best, but you don’t have to do so by putting other ships down.
Whether or not your ship becomes canon really isn’t up to you. Please keep this in mind when creating fanworks and don’t get too invested in something that might not happen, or might happen but not in the way you want it to. Watch out for ways that media creators might be stringing you along.

Tristan Wirfs is athletic as hell and not just for an offensive tackle
Iowa OT Tristan Wirfs is a likely top-10 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Retired defensive end Stephen White breaks down why Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs deserves to be the first tackle taken in this year’s draft.
Sometimes I’m as guilty as anybody when it comes to putting qualifiers on a prospect’s athletic ability. I might say this guy is fast “for a defensive tackle” or that guy is strong “for a wide receiver,” just to try to be clear about how good they are without overselling it.
Well, Tristan Wirfs doesn’t need any qualifiers — that dude is an athlete period!
Sure, he’s an offensive lineman and every bit of 6’5 and 320 pounds, but he looks like a small forward running around on the field. His tape at Iowa tells you everything you need to know about Wirfs’ speed, quickness, explosion, and agility. But if you had any lingering doubts, his combine performance should’ve smashed them all to smithereens.
I bet a lot of fans have heard about him blazing a 4.85-second 40-yard dash in Indianapolis, but did you also hear about his 36.5-inch vertical? What about the 121-inch broad jump?
If that isn’t impressive to you, try to best any of his marks. Go ahead and post it on your lil TikTok so we can all laugh at you pulling every muscle in your body.
You won’t catch me trying, though. I know better.
What Wirfs does well: Pancake blocks
As I noted last year in Cody Ford’s breakdown, it’s becoming apparent to me that right tackles are no longer stereotypical road graders. Instead, I’m starting to see a lot of “dancing bear” types who I would normally expect to see at left tackle lining up and playing well on the right side. Wirfs is just another example of that shift.
Which isn’t to say Wirfs can’t knock people off the ball, because he did a damn good job of that in the four games of his I watched. But with a guy his size, it’s not exactly earth-shattering to see Wirfs moving people. It is, however, at least a little shocking when you first watch him pull outside and lead a running back 10 yards down the field looking more like a fullback than an offensive tackle.
At least to me it was.
Wirfs definitely has some road grader to him, though. I was super impressed with his ability to stick with defenders after contact. Once he locked on, it was almost certain he was going to take the defender on a joy ride.
It didn’t hurt that whenever he got the opportunity, Wirfs was always finishing dudes off. If a cat let his guard down before the whistle blew, he could easily find himself staring up at the sky contemplating life and wondering where it all went wrong.
Never waste an opportunity to pancake your opposition, I always say, and it appears Wirfs agrees with that sentiment.
I know for as great as his combine was overall, he didn’t exactly have an eye-popping number on bench press. But for someone with 34-inch-long arms, getting 24 reps is pretty good. Additionally, Wirfs tends to generate most of his power from his lower body, anyway. So don’t worry about the bench press numbers, because it’s clear from the tape that Wirfs’ power will transfer well to the next level.
What Wirfs does well: Plays under control
Of course, the main attraction for offensive tackle prospects is their ability as pass protectors these days. All those pancakes are nice, but if you are getting the quarterback killed on passing plays, you’re going to end up getting everybody fired. That’s why it’s of utmost importance in this golden age of passing that offensive linemen, and particularly offensive tackles, are able to keep that heat off the QB.
When Wirfs was in a racehorse stance (upright instead of with his hand in the dirt) with his outside foot staggered well back, I thought he was as outstanding of a pass blocker as I’ve seen. His feet were so quick that he never had to bail out too hard, no matter how wide, or how fast, the edge rusher was. If a guy took a chance at trying to get the edge on Wirfs, more than likely he was going to end up either getting driven 5+ yards deeper than the quarterback, or buried on the way there.
At some point during their attempted pass rush, some cats would figure out they weren’t going to make it around the outside of Wirfs, but things didn’t get any easier when they tried to stick their foot in the ground and make a counter move inside. Wirfs would simply stick his foot in the ground at the same time and smother the rushers on the spot. Because he never had to panic and turn and run with a speed rusher, Wirfs hardly ever got so out of control that he couldn’t react to their change of direction.
That’s not something you always see, even from offensive tackles who test well athletically. The way Wirfs almost always plays under control, while still being able to explode into defenders, was one of my favorite things about watching his tape.
One of my other favorite things was how aware he was on the field. I don’t think I saw Wirfs get caught slipping even once on a pass-rush game or a blitz, and that’s damn near impossible to do for most offensive linemen. A couple of those teams were throwing the kitchen sink at him. Yet, he always seemed to be able to split his focus on the edge rusher, and keeping an eye out for any funny business coming his way from inside.
There was this play of his against USC that perfectly captures what I’m trying to say here. It isn’t a flashy play, and if you aren’t paying attention you might even miss it. A USC linebacker came on a delayed blitz to the B gap inside of Wirfs, well after Wirfs was already engaged with the edge rusher to his side and Iowa didn’t have enough blockers to pick him up. The linebacker was coming in hard as a free runner at the quarterback.
The edge rusher came off with a power move, so Wirfs had to deal with him first. After he had that guy locked down, at the very last — and I mean very last — second, and right after his quarterback had thrown the ball, Wirfs quickly turned from the edge rusher and banged that blitzer inside of him hard enough to knock the dude off course, and prevent him from blowing up Iowa’s quarterback.
You don’t know how many times I watched that play, slowed down, with my eyes bugged out. I have no idea a) how Wirfs even saw that blitzer coming nor b) how he was able to turn that fast and make enough solid contact to keep his quarterback clean.
I’m not sure you can even coach that.
Where Wirfs can improve: His kick step
It should be obvious that I’m very high on this Wirfs kid. However, I did have one moderate concern about his play. I mentioned before that when Wirfs has that good stagger with his outside leg, he is almost unbeatable as a pass blocker. My issue comes in when he doesn’t have that stagger to his stance.
When Wirfs is in a “regular” stance with his hand in the dirt, he tends to not actually kick step, or if he does kick step, a lot of times he will end up stepping wide without also stepping back. He is so athletic that usually he is able to get away with it and you won’t even notice his footwork, but he also wasn’t facing NFL talent every play at Iowa.
The very few times he did get beat — and on the only sack he gave up in those four games — was when it was a lot more obvious that his footwork was off because he stepped wide and the edge rusher made a relatively quick inside move.
Since he was going laterally, rather than laterally and backward, Wirfs also wasn’t able to generate much power on contact on several plays where the edge rusher came off hard and ended up running down the middle of him. That forced Wirfs to end up being the nail and not the hammer, absorbing the blow rather than delivering it.
Having said that, the way Wirfs was able to recover on several of those rushes where it looked like he was in trouble initially, was absolutely cuss-worthy. One time I was sure he was at least going to get driven back into the quarterback’s lap after he gave up so much ground on contact. Next thing I know, I look up, and not only had Wirfs anchored down to stop the edge rusher’s momentum, he turned around and pancaked the dude.
Let me repeated, he turned around and pancaked the dude!
Bruh ...
Wirfs’ NFL future: Potential All-Pro
I’m going to let everybody in on a little secret; there is no such thing as a “perfect” prospect. No matter how good they were in college, every one of those players is going to have to improve on something to be the best they can be on the next level. What is important is that their flaws are fixable, and few.
With Wirfs, I don’t think he will have much trouble getting his kick step sharpened up when he’s in a three-point stance, and that’s really my only concern about how well his game will translate to the next level. If I were to compare him to the other offensive tackles I’ve broken down so far, Wirfs is the most ready today to go out and start an NFL game at offensive tackle.
And notice I didn’t say on which side, because with the way he moves on the field, I could definitely see Wirfs doing a great job lined up the left side in the NFL, too.
I think the sky's the limit for Mekhi Becton, but he will more than likely have to play guard initially because of issues with his pass protection. I like Jedrick Wills Jr. a lot too, but his lapses in effort every now and then also gives me pause. Wirfs, however, can do everything you could possible want to call on an offensive tackle to do, and he’s only going to get better as he sharpens up his technique.
For my money, Wirfs should be the first offensive tackle taken off the board of the three, and considering Becton will likely be selected as a guard, I ultimately think Wirfs will be the first true tackle taken.
Of course, we will all find out who is right when the draft rolls around. It will take a little longer to see who is right about the evaluation, though. No matter where he goes, I see Wirfs being a Pro Bowler within his first three years in the league, and he will likely be an All-Pro before it’s all said and done.
If a team in need of a tackle near the top of the draft passes on him, it will probably live to regret it.
Be sure to check out my other scouting reports on Chase Young, Jerry Jeudy, Derrick Brown, Jedrick Wills Jr., A.J. Epenesa, CeeDee Lamb, Javon Kinlaw, Mekhi Becton, Terrell Lewis, Henry Ruggs III, and Neville Gallimore.
For the purposes of this breakdown, I watched Wirfs play against Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and USC (Holiday Bowl).

Chapter 30: Ya Wey! Pinche Pendejo Wey!
To make things short of security for the hero class, the school is getting real tired of these twinks and their stubborn asses, so they’re being closely monitored but everyone has to fend for themselves. The intel students couldn’t care less about the notion, fuck these hero students.
-Homeroom, intel 2A class-
“Good morning students” Diya started class looking more run down than usual “as you all know, we don’t have to fend for those hero students as per Nezu’s say. So we’re back on track to our studying for finals” he motions toward Mimi, Jin and Me “and for you 3, labyrinth practice test is the day after the last day of the school year. I expect you to train independently for it.”
“Yes sir!” We barked back unison. Jin raises his hand.
“Yes Matsui?”
“Do we get priority for reserving training gyms on weekends?”
“Not sure but I’ll let you know by the end of the day” Diya clicked his pen to make a note for himself “But in other news, a few more redesigns came in for fitting plus there will be no field section for this final” he puts his pen in his breast pocket “since all of you have proven well enough that you can hold formations, lead others and follow weapon safety after all these villain attacks. That counted for field work credit and physical points, so no need to show me again things I know you’re great at.”
The class collectively sighed in relief, our concern was mostly on the physical part of the final because of vehicles and mechs portion. Now we can focus on what’s important. I go about my normal day and feel the most amount of dread entering my last class of the day.
“Class, today we will be doing some spar work” Aizawa announced after taking roll, which I guess is just marking me down as present “I have the pairings on this sheet, match ups are based on weaknesses and flaws in combat” he taped the sheet on the wall next to the door “as you walk out of the door to dress out, take a look at your pairing.”
I check mine and I got....Midoriya?! The one twink I didn’t want to be paired with. No matter, I had to do the thing and I just wanted to get it over with. We were all over the gym in our pairs, the goal was to use no quirks and improve weaknesses.
“Please go easy on me Palma-san” Midoriya whimpered as he bowed to me before we got things started in the gym “I know I’m no match against you.”
“Oh geez already with the weakness?” I scoffed “come at me like you would with a villain, right now is the time to show me up and take me down.”
“Okay, here I go” he cleared his throat “give back Kacchan! You villain!”
“I guess that works” I shrugged before striking at half force, Midoriya was taken back with my speed and directness “Izu at least try to hit me back” I connect my lunge punch to his chest after some quick punches “it’s embarrassing to see you so dependent of your quirk, what’s the point of all that alone training time in the grass if you can’t land a hand on me?!” I pushed him hard enough to knock him on his butt.
“You’re just so unpredictable and have zero weak spots!” he yells back as I tower over him “how am I supposed to take on the one person nobody has defeated yet? Or come close enough?!”
“I can think of 5 off the top of my head” spoke a voice that silenced the class “they’re all over her body and super obvious.”
The class muttered but I was getting defensive “WHO ARE YOU?! Show yourself coward!”
“Now now” spoke a different voice, an oddly familiar voice “I know mommy isn’t around but this that how you talk to your guests?”
“HEY if you’re just going to hide in the shadows and talk your big talk” I pound my chest to provoke “then you can go and eat my ass!” the class gasped at my hostility at these 2 voices.
“INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE YOUNG LADY! Someone oughta straighten you out!” as they finished their sentence, everyone saw a dark mass rise from the ground and morphed into my size and shape. Without warning, this mass lashes out at me and I dodge and avoid the best I could.
“Dirty tricks!” I grunted after realizing I can’t land any sort of attacks on this mass because I can phase right through it, like it was my shadow “can’t face me yourself!”
“Oh you want to lose today?” taunted the second voice “then so be it!” the sound of flute trill froze me in place, leaving me no chance to react.
“Nygh! I’m- stuck” I was full on panicking now and so was everyone else “who are you?!”
“It’s been nearly 2 years since our last meeting” footsteps followed with that statement “did you already forget about me?”
“Surely you remember me once I play your song” the second voice said with the flute introduction to Wave by Antonio Carlos Jobim playing, at that moment everything clicked.
“NO FREAKIN WAY!” a big dumb smile broke onto my face and the paralyzation lifted. I turned quickly to see my two mentors that helped me on my journey away from home “it’s you! it’s you, it’s you! AHHH!” I ran toward them chanting with my arms out for an embrace.
“Can someone please tell me what’s going on?” Kaminari bluntly asked “who are these two Palma-san?”
“Guys, these are my mentors, Mr. R. Lee Hemingway of US Homeland Intel and Sgrt Sergei of Austria Intel” I introduced them to the class “Hemingway here was actually my band teacher before I was sent away and he helped me with codes and technical stuff. Sergei was my weapons and quirk combat mentor when I was in Austria for those 2 weeks of transitional.”
“What kind of quirks are those?” Midoriya asked very forwardly.
“I have shadow manifest, if it casts a shadow, I can use it to fight or help retrieve” answered Sergei “good for long range but usually I let my Natasha do the dirty work” he whips out this polished black glock with the name ‘Natasha’ engraved in the handle in a fancy font.
“I have 2 quirks, sound wave and paralyze” Hemingway explained “I can produce sounds that can break anything with my whistling or, my personal favorite, with musical instruments!” he plays a plays a low note on the flute and it made Aoyama’s pants fall “that was a note low enough to break a belt buckle fastener. And I can paralyze any creature with just one look.”
“I didn’t know that was his hidden quirk!” I giggled “I just thought he was so intimidating that I just naturally froze in place when I pushed it too far.”
“Oh how you just LOVE to disobey me” he ruffled my hair “you haven’t changed a bit, have you? You little scamp!” he turned to the others “she makes it so hard to not like her! she’s super talented and smart that I’ve just grown accustomed to her defiance.”
“Yes, very much so” Sergei sighed “I pity the man that’ll end up marrying her and reproduce more curly-haired ‘fuck all the rules’ youngins.”
“Gah shut it you!” I playfully shoved Sergei “but why are you here? I’m pretty sure yall couldn’t just come to visit.”
“You’re right, we’re actually here to train you for your Labyrinth practice exam” Sergei cleared his throat “you and your squadron for the next few weeks.”
“We know all about all the added stress of these villains with flawed logic” Hemingway put his hand on my shoulder “so we’re here to give you 3 the best chance at completing the practice one so you can do the real one later in senior year.”
“Really? That’s so- wait a minute” I got sentimental until I remembered something “who sent you over?”
“Damn you’re good at this, it was your caseworker” Hemingway chuckled “I’m impressed by your intuition and quick thinking” he turned to Sergei “she really has come a long way from being my pupil and musical prodigy.”
“How was Palma-san in America?” asked Mina “is it true that she was a quiet and timid girl?”
“She was but that’s because you aren’t allowed to use quirks in public” Hemingway answered “since there’s no need for fighting as she was the most likeable and smart young lady in school, everyone painted her in this good light. But I guess you all see her as this strange, bold and powerful little lady that can do anything.”
“America doesn’t sound very progressive for what they claim to do on the news” Shoji thought aloud “No hero culture and no power to the people, just oppression.”
“Well if you put it like that then yea America fucking sucks” I laughed nervously then turned to the two men “shall we go to my squadron? I’d love to introduce them to you!”
“Yes lets!” Sergei responded “excuse us, it was very nice to meet all of you.”
We walked to the main building and I broke the silence “How’s everything back home? Any sign of break through?”
“I wish I could tell you that things are going to be okay” Hemingway deeply sighed like he didn’t want to say what he was going to say “they’ve claimed the whole district and killed everyone that tried to rise up against them” he stopped and turned to me to make full eye contact “they killed Gio, Rigo and Trigo. They formed into a vigilante trio to avenge you and they were slain one at a time by the gang.”
“My section?! They’re gone?” tears well up in my eyes, it seemed not that long ago we were messing around in the band room after practice “but they were such sweet boys, why would they-”
“Your death brought the bravery out of everybody to fight back” he wiped his tear “they followed your example of bravery to protect your friends and myself to bring attention that we are in desperate need of hero culture. I don’t know how many more deaths are needed to bring the change we need” he wiped my tears “but you’re leading the fight you started for a safer community.”
After some consoling and more updates from home, I introduce them to my squadron to get a full training run down. For the next 3 weeks, we’re on a strict regime of training, no drinking and no social time. Just hardcore training but we also had to miss out on all the fun things like the dance and kick-backs.
-Night of the dance, Hero dorms-
“Iida-kun, can you help me tie this?” Sero asked as he knocked on Iida’s door “If you aren’t too busy.”
“Oh no, please come in” answered Iida “what needs tying?”
“Iida-kun you aren’t even dressed?!” Sero exclaimed “weren’t you going with Palma-san to the dance?”
“Not this time” he got up from his desk chair to tie Sero’s bow tie “she’s under strict training for her practice test, she looked so sad when I asked her to be my date again and told me why she can’t go.” He sighs “That was a week ago and I’m a bit concerned for her, she hasn’t spend any social time with anybody since her mentors showed up.”
“Oh oof I’m sorry she had to decline” Sero sympathized with Iida “well, thanks for tying this for me! See you when we get back.”
-Meanwhile, in the Intel dorms-
“I don’t want to move!” Mimi groaned face down on the floor “my body feels broken.”
“It was nice of them to give us tomorrow as a healing day” Jin tried to make light of things after a very rigorous day of training “sucks that we can’t go dancing with the others.”
“Welp, I’m gonna have a soak” I floated myself to the bathroom “nothing like a hot bath to pass out in after a training day.” I take my bath and get envious of all the fun everyone is having at the dance and how I had to decline Iida’s offer to be my date. I imagine things going right if I went and maybe, just maybe, I’ll get that slow dance kiss. After getting pruny as heck, I dry off and get ready for bed when I get a text from Shinso.
[Hey, I heard you couldn’t go to the dance. Are you upset?]
[A little, I really wanted to dress up and one slow dance at least]
[Hmmm, that can be arranged... Meet me on the hero roof in 20 mins in any dress you have on hand.]
I start freaking out and show Mimi and Jin. They also get excited and help me choose a dress. I didn’t wait for Shinso to show up first, I teleported to the roof the moment I was ready. He arrived 3 minutes later.
“Oh, hey” Shinso was taken by surprise “I didn’t expect you to come early, were you waiting long?”
“Nah I teleported in like a minute ago” I kept my excitement contained “so I’m here, in the nicest dress I had in my closet” I smoothed out the front of my floral print chiffon dress “kinda wish I could’ve dressed up a bit more fancy.”
“Are you kidding me? You look stunningly gorgeous” he put down his bag to hold my hands in his “and in purple, my favorite color” he kissed my hands “I know you really wanted to go to the dance, so I wanted to bring a little bit of the dance to you” he took out a portable speaker and connected it to his phone to play a pre-compiled playlist, he bows and presents his hand “may I have this dance?”
I take his hand and giggle. We danced and I forgot that I was in pain earlier, my heart was fluttering in happiness, this is what I’ve always wanted a partner to do for me. “Ya know Hitoshi” we lock eyes “if I didn’t know better, I’d say you want something from me.”
“Like what?” he pulled me in closer “I know you’ve been working hard and I just want to do something nice, nothing to repay.”
“Are you sure I can’t repay you for your kindness?” I tilt my head “nothing at all?”
“Seeing you happy and being around you is enough for me” he changed his hand positions “I missed your company.”
“Yea, training has been rough on me” I put my head on his shoulder “just another week and a half of it then I take my practice exam.”
“I hope I can go see it” he puts a hand on the back of my head “I’m going home for the holidays but I’m not sure how soon I’m leaving.”
“Oh that’s exciting” I perked up “last year the whole hero class couldn’t leave for the holidays so just spent it together.”
“How did that turn out?” he chuckled.
“Annoying! Half way through festivities I teleported to the intel dorms and celebrated with my friends.” We spent more time talking and slow dancing. Forgetting about the time and longing for the right moment for a kiss. The moment finally presented itself when Love by Keisha Cole played, at the climax of the song we locked eyes and closed in for a kiss. This kiss was different, it gave me those sweet and warm feelings in my chest...Shinso is the one, game over y’all, this is love.
“Wow, so that’s how it feels like” he says after pulling away from the kiss “to kiss you after pinning you for so long.”
“You, pinning me?” I was being sarcastic “no way!”
“I guess a confession is in order huh?” he laughed off my comment and motioned me to sit on the blanket he laid out “Let me start from the beginning, it’s embarrassing but, I’ve had a crush on you since you came back from you 1st practice test.”
“The first?- OH! the pro-hero take down one?”
“Yeah that one” he held my hand “since then, I’ve been just observing you from afar and practicing my proper introduction to you because I wanted to stand out from the rest that was trying to get your attention. Since then, every time you waved hello to me in the hall or talk to me in passing, I lose my cool once you’re out of sight. I developed my feelings over time as you helped me with my placement exam, I’ve never met someone so kind and charismatic as you” he diverted his gaze “not going to lie, when I saw you holding hands with Iida, I got jealous until you said he’s just a friend. I just really wanted to be the one to hold your hand and have all of your attention like the way you looked with him” he squeezed my hand a little “but who knew that you already had eyes for me, all the playful moments and serious ones spent together. It has made me confident to say that I like you and I want to be all yours...but,”
“But what?” I asked softly as I felt his tone change and his hand letting go of mine.
“I understand that this isn’t the right time to start something” he looks to the starry sky “life is putting you through the ultimate test and you can’t be spending your energy on romantic relationships, at least not now” he turns to me “I won’t be the added stress to your life like everyone else, when the time is right, we’ll start our chapter.”
“You’d really wait for me?” I asked, in near tears “am I really worth the trouble?”
“Of course you are” he caresses my face “I’d never let you slip out of my hands and wait as long as it takes.” We kissed again and again, the ease of mind made me that much more excited for the day we’d be in a serious relationship.
-Fast forward, day of the Labyrinth practice test-
“AGENTS!” Hansai barked at the first years in the auditorium with multi-paneled screens “as you know, our beloved trio of upper-classmen are going to take the labyrinth practice test, take note on their techniques and quick thinking as you might need it when you go on your internships in a few days.”
“LABYRINTH PRACTICE EXAM IS IN FULL SESSION” blared the announcer on the speakers “AGENT 21, J.MATSUI WILL BE DEPLOYED IN 30 SECONDS.”
“Our King is going up first” blurted out one of the underclassmen “I hope he makes it out!”
-Meanwhile, at the exam-
“Breathe baby boy” Mimi hypes up Jin “you have studied the blade and now is the time to cut ‘em!”
“Thanks guys” he walks up to the double doors to the starting area “I’ll see you on the other side.”
“You’ll do amazing sweetie!” I yell as he walked through the open door. Mimi and I await in the holding area for more announcements. 10 minutes later we get an update.
“J.MATSUI IS UNABLE TO CONTINUE THE EXAM, CAPTURED IN THE 3RD STAGE.”
“Oh no, poor baby” Mimi gasped “I wonder what happened? He never gets caught lacking.”
“AGENT 20, M.M.OLESHIN WILL BE DEPLOYED IN 30 SECONDS.”
“See you on the other side” I give Mimi a quick hug “you’ll do great.”
“See you on the other side” Mimi said as the double doors started to open “I love you.” I sat alone in the holding area, tapping my fingers on my knees to calm myself. What seemed forever, I finally get an update.
“M.M. OLESHIN IS UNABLE TO CONTINUE THE EXAM, KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS IN THE 6TH STAGE”
“Oh fuck” I yelped “she was also caught lacking, she’s always so careful not to. What the hell am I up against?!”
“AGENT 19, I.PALMA WILL BE DEPLOYED IN 30 SECONDS.”
I walk up to the double doors to await my time “Lord, if you’re listening” I look up to the celling “please grant me the courage and strength to complete this exam.” The double doors open and I dash in to the first stage, a simple task, find the key to the hostage’s shackles for a later stage and gather intel on the ‘villain’ on the final level. “hmmm, so they’re a fire quirk villain. Doesn’t seem too difficult.” Second level was defusing, simple cut the blue wire situation and check for other explosives. Third level was taking down a group of lackeys, though difficult, I powered through to move on. Fourth level was retrieve the object without triggering the alarm or traps, easy peasy with my quirk. The fifth level was were I ran into trouble, it was an empty room and I couldn’t figure out what to do at first. After 5 minutes of looking around, the room filled with smoke, making visibility difficult. I get to the next stage door and see it was different than the others, it had a 4 digit pin code to unlock! I remembered something from the 1st stage and used it as the pin-code, lucky me, the door opened. With no time to catch my breath, I close in on the sixth stage. I see why Mimi was defeated, Eraserhead was in this room.
“Well! I was hoping to see you Miss Agent” Aizawa flashed his smile at me “what tricks are you going to play for me?”
I lower my visor and reach for my pocket “I’m gonna juggle!” I pull out 3 black balls from my pocket and wave them in my hands “lookie lookie! no quirks!” I start juggling.
“Well I’ll be damned, the circus is in town” Aizawa laughed “do a backflip!”
“Okie dokie!” I toss the balls up and do the back flip, the moment the balls hit the ground a blinding flash of white ignited.
“Flash grenades, dirty tricks!” Aizawa grunts as he rubs his eyes. But it was too late, I dashed behind him to copy the erasure and activated it before he could turn around. He realized what I’ve done and chuckled “you never cease to amaze me, but try this on for size!” he used his capture device but with some quick thinking, I used the net gun before the device reached me.
“That was fun” I propped him up on a pillar “see you later!”
“Best of luck Miss Palma!” he yelled as I ran through the double doors.
Stage seven, just this one and one more to complete. I was met with a barricaded door to the next level with a timer with 4 minutes on the clock. I worked quickly to move what I could with my quirk and kick down plus brass knuckle my way to the rest of the blockage. Thank Sergei for all that extra muscle conditioning so I could make this possible, and just in the nick of time too! I had 30 seconds to spare and I bolted to my final stage. I arrive to a room with a group of hostages but no ‘villain’ in sight.
“Help us, help us!” yelled one of the hostages.
Upon getting closer, I see that among the hostages is Iida and Todoroki “Oh my, don’t worry! I’m here to release you” I unlock their shackles and remember what I was supposed to say in the situation “is anybody hurt or in need of medical attention?” I await a response, none of them spoke up “please come this way for the rescue team to retrieve you” I lead them to the marked area and do a simulated ping “19 to rescue, all 5 hostages are gathered and ready for transport” I turn to the hostages as the double doors open “please follow the rescuer’s instructions and stay together.”
“WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU’RE GOING!” bellowed a voice behind me and I just knew it was the ‘villain’ I was supposed to fight. I turn around and see none other than Endeavor.
“Eww is that your dad Shoto?” I was in genuine disgust.
“Yes that’s him” he turns to me “beat his ass Palma-san, like he deserves it.”
“With pleasure Shoto!” I crack my knuckles and face my opponent “so you’re the so called mastermind of this here circus ey?!”
“I’m- not running a circus?” he scratches his head and mutters “did I read my script wrong.”
“It’s going to take more than clowns and tricks to take me down!” I strike a defense pose “because I got the power of God AND Anime on my side!”
“What do those have to-” I interrupt him with dashing forward to throw my pocket sand in his face “puh! what the hell was that! it’s in my eyes!” he covers his face and I slap him a couple times to pester and copy his quirk.
“Heh! not so tough are ya clown master?!” I taunt as I circle him to check if he has any sort of stun device or remote controls on him “LOOK AT ME!” he struggles to see me but once I activated his quirk, he went pale.
“That’s my- GIVE MY QUIRK BACK YOU BRAT!” he lunges forward but I predict his next moves “that’s enough playing!” he gets aggressive and launches me against the wall like a rag doll.
“I won’t let you get the best of me!” I yelled as I staggered to pick myself up “I have inner demons way scarier than you!” my visor cracked and fell off my head, exposing my face and the bloody, shallow cuts on my forehead.
“You’re just a little girl!” he laughed “defeating you will be like-”
“I’m not your children, you can’t beat me around like them!” I snapped back, giving a mischievous smile.
“ENOUGH!” his flames ignited “I’m going to wipe that smile off your face!”
“Try me bitch!”
-In the control room-
“Oh wow she’s really tearing him down verbally” Hemingway observed the surveillance feed “she might actually win this one.”
“That’s our girl” Mimi puffed her chest out like a proud friend “I’m very excited to see her finishing fire move, The Rising Phoenix!”
“I love that move!” Todoroki gasped “I can’t get it quite right but it’s a beautiful fire power move.”
“Never mind that!” Iida exclaimed “how are you all okay with her getting pummeled like that?!” he points at the screen with a chop as she gets hit hard enough to get airborne.
“Give it time! It’s all part of her plan” Jin assured Iida “you worry way too much over her.” They all watch as she lures the ‘villain’ into her trap but she’s very beaten, battered and bloody like she’s about to collapse.
“That’s it! I’m doing something about this!” Iida charges toward the control panel where the proctor was sitting to press the ‘emergency stop’ button.
“You foolish boy!” cried out the proctor “you sabotaged both of them!”
-In the final stage-
As I lifted my arms to do my finishing move, I get hit by something just outside my range of vision. Next thing I know I was on the floor, paralyzed looking up at the high vaulted celling. I hear the sirens wail and the sound of 4 people yelling my name and running.
“Please baby girl! speak to me!” Mimi begged as she scooped me up from the ground.
“What happened?” I asked confused “did I lose control? Did I hurt myself?”
“No no! you didn’t” Sergei kneeled down to my level “someone interfered with your exam, this wasn’t supposed to happen! You were about to win too!”
“What? Who did it?” I looked at Mimi, Jin, Hemingway and Sergei, all of them had the same expression of anger “I promise I won’t get mad! Please tell me.”
“It was glasses” Jin clenched his jaw “he did his heroics and hard stopped everything.”
“Never mind, I’m enraged now” I was too numb to show how mad I was “also can I get the antidote to this paralyzer? It’s getting harder to breathe.”
“Right!” they all said collectively and I was whisked away to the infirmary.
I was on bed rest for a week due to my many injuries. As I laid around, my anger grew and I wished Shinso was around to vent and forget about everything. He left the morning of my exam and won’t be back until after New Years. Mimi and Jin banned Iida from visiting me or even getting near me, which is a good thing, otherwise I’d be in a full blown fist fight with him. That’s how close I am to exploding in anger. The more I stayed cooped up, the more I want to just roam the city and do something that isn’t laying around. I finally had it and got dressed up to go somewhere for a bit in the evening. Mimi and Jin gave me my space to do this but Iida was persistent in talking to me. As I made my way to the parking lot on the dorms to get to my car, Iida zoomed out of the hero dorms.
“Hey! Ita I was just noticing that you’re heading out” he stood in front of my drivers side, preventing me from unlocking my car “may I accomp-”
“No” I said firmly, trying to hold back my anger “I’m fine thank you very much, I wish to go alone.”
“But I want to talk to you” he put his hands on my shoulders, I push them off me “I know you’re upset and I want to-”
“Oh ho! Upset? You think I’M upset” I scoffed with my anger levels rising “Tenya, I’m fucking ENRAGED! Because once again, your unnecessary heroics ruined everything!” hot angry tears poured out of my eyes “I trained so long and hard for that exam and because of your little act, I’m at risk of not only failing that exam but also getting my tuition money taken way because of my failure to complete the exam!” I look into his eyes to drive my point “I don’t want your apologies nor comfort, I want to be left alone.”
“Please Ita, listen to me” He grabs my arm to stop me from walking away “don’t push me away again, lets go and-”
“Let. Go. Of. Me.” I growled in warning “I want to be alone.”
“No, I won’t allow you to just disappear again!” his grip tightened “lets work things out like friends.”
The word ‘friends’ hit me the wrong way and I lashed out “I said I don’t WANT TO TALK!” I thrash about until I was out of his grip “I don’t need a friend right now, I need to clear my head in solitude” I turn around and fast walk toward the main road. Before Iida could react, she teleported away.
“Ita?! ITA?! COME BACK” wailed Iida as he ran toward where she stood before disappearing “I’m sorry, so sorry, come back” he horsely spoke as tears fell from his face, his legs buckling and giving out, making him fall “I’m a bad friend, what do I do to make up for my mistakes.” Moments later, Midoriya and Kirishima walk up to Iida’s sobbing mess on the ground.
“Iida-kun? We saw what happened” Midoriya gently spoke “is she going to be alright going out on her own like that?”
“I don’t know” he didn’t move from his spot “just leave me here to rot like the bad friend I am.”
“None of that Iida-kun!” Kirishima flipped Iida over to show his face “you’re not a bad friend, just too heroic” he extended his hand out to help Iida up “Palma-san has every right to be angry and we need to give her the respect to clear her mind” Iida refuses his hand “she always comes back, this time is no different.”
“He’s right Iida-kun” Midoriya puts his hands on Iida’s arm “lets go inside and wait for her to come back, it’s starting to get really cold lately so she can’t be out too late.”
-In downtown-
“Stupid Tenya” I mutter as I make my way through the town square “he thinks everything can be solved with a meal and slow dancing, well not this time!” I walk through the much more un-urbanized part of town, the traditional look of the shops and street was pleasing to me. I wander around to get familiarized myself with the area since I’ve never been in the area. My wandering got me lost after what seems like hours, winding up in an alleyway that leads to what seems like a warehouse district. “Maybe if I go back I can find a familiar spot and teleport to town square, I can go get something to eat” I tell myself as it was getting dark and the area wasn’t as well lit. I felt the chill creep up my arms as it got darker but I was still lost, coming back to the same alleyway, now even darker and spookier. “How the hell do I keep coming back here?” I get annoyed with myself “guess I’ll just try to navigate on my phone” I check the GPS and I don’t have a strong enough signal to get located. I was too busy trying to get signal that I didn’t see that I was getting barricaded from the alley entrance.
“There you are~” spoke a familiar voice “so this was your little hiding place?”
I stopped dead in my tracks “It can’t be” I uttered in fear. Looking up and at the voice I see two people, one in a wheelchair and one pushing the wheelchair but I knew who they were “No...it’s not possible!”
“Oh but it is!” spoke the man in the wheelchair “and you were right! That quirkless boyfriend of yours did have a use to me after all. Too bad it lead to your demise, he loved you so.”
“Humberto would NEVER help you!” I screamed, trying to show hostility “what did you do to him?!”
“OH! Being stand off-ish?” his tone petty as hell “fine by me! I came here to eradicate you, like I said I would but with more vengeance.”
“That won’t happen” I got in my stance “I’ve done more than just hiding for 2 years, you’ll never win Johnny!”
