i don’t understand why people don’t see real life as an actual life series worth analyzing. yeah it’s just a silly april fools joke, just a one shot. but every life series is “just” a minecraft server played played by people who are all friends irl. you can watch ALL of the life series and go “this is just for fun, there’s no deeper meaning here. these aren’t characters, they’re real people playing block game. who cares”

they really aren’t that different. and analyzing things that aren’t really there, looking for a deeper meaning in something silly, is the entire fun of these mcyt fandoms. looking for a deeper meaning is the entire backbone of the creative side of the community. it inspires the art, the writing, everything. it gets back to the ccs themselves, it’s the reason they even bother changing their skins.

it was the fun in the jerma dollhouse for me, going hahaha this is so silly!!! and the ending hits and i go. OH. OH GOD. and real life had those moments!!!!! i just wish the people smarter than me when it comes to analysis looked at it more.

A skilled creative who specialised in weaving both clothes and baskets

Went missing from Roost five years prior to the story

Lives in No Man’s Land, dropping between settlements and taverns

Has heard of a mysterious outlaw Sorcerer and is looking for him for unknown reasons

Hides his wings under a woven shawl and rarely removes his hood

Has only told two people what happened to him: Cleo (by force, she was going to kill him) and Mumbo (by choice, Grian was not having a good day and needed to vent) but generally feels bad about telling people

Lunar Moth Insectoid Hybrid

Astrology & Animagic Mage – her familiar is Tilly the dog

From Roost – sister figure to Grian and Jimmy

A member of the Roost commune’s ‘government’

Can talk to Tilly with her animage abilities

Specialises in creating political allies, meeting with the other kingdoms and trying to avoid wars

Went looking for Grian when he went missing, but never found him, and is still mourning the loss. Known to have taken up wearing red after the disappearance

A little unhinged despite her proficiency in keeping the peace, usually wanting to be left alone with her animals and being quick to anger, especially if someone expects her to get over her loss

A former traveler who now works to bring imports and exports to and from Roost, since he is familiar with the routes, mostly between Roost and The Ocean Kingdom

Born with a defect which made his wings grow in incorrectly, making them too small to allow him to fly

He thusly falls out of trees a lot

Friends with Prince Scott of The Ocean Kingdom, and enjoys visiting him as part of his import/export runs

As a prince, he isn’t expected to take up any ‘proper’ job or education, but he finds magic fascinating despite being unable to study it himself

Parents want him to get married, he does not want that

Doesn’t believe in the monarchy and is worried about the kingdom’s citizens, but can’t connect to them as they see him as incredibly privileged and out of touch

Thinks about running away from home, but doesn’t want to abandon his duties

An important role as ambassador for the kingdom, attending conferences with the other kingdom leaders

Friends with Jimmy, looks forward to his visits because they allow him to forget about the pressure of being a prince

Ren

Weredog Hybrid (can shift forms)

From The Red Kingdom – The Red King

Takes his role as king very seriously, and aims to provide safety and happiness for all of his citizens

He takes great lengths to protect the kingdom, making it the most defended kingdom of the three, and the castle’s prison complex is vast and unforgiving

A very self-confident man, coming across as egotistical to many others, and struggles to accept criticism even from his own council

Hyper-paranoid about invasion, war, theft, kidnapping, etc.

From The Ocean Kingdom, moved to The Red Kingdom – a member of the royal council

Raised in a small settlement of outcast Sirens, learning quickly how to lure ships aground and fight in close-combat

He realised criminal life wasn’t for him, and he would rather protect people, and give them some joy, so he traveled into The Ocean Kingdom and worked odd jobs until he caught the attention of the royals and became their personal guard

After growing frustrated with his job as an entertainer and guard for the King and Queen of The Ocean Kingdom, he ran away and joined The Red Kingdom, becoming a knight

For his loyalty and charisma as a knight, he was chosen by Ren to join the royal council as a personal guard and spy

Definitely gets special treatment from Ren, causing the others in the council to resent him slightly

His knowledge of the Ocean Kingdom and some of the local thief groups is very useful, and he has a knack for calming Ren down when he’s on one of his paranoid spirals

Had a close friendship with Scott in the past but left without saying goodbye

Doc

Goat Hybrid / Demon / Cyborg

Technological Mage

From The Red Kingdom – a member of the royal council

An expert in technological magic, even using it to create his own prosthetic arm, lung, and eye

No one knows how he gained demonic traits, being born as just an ordinary hybrid, but his magic is now more demonic, overloading his body with dark magic energy and causing him a lot of problems relating to corruption and Mage Sickness

He was a professor at one of the kingdom’s universities before Ren asked him to join the council as a technological advisor, tasked with inventing new helpful machines for the kingdom (including war machines)

Has an unsteady relationship with Ren, bordering on being enemies at some points due to their disagreements about how the kingdom is run

Can often be found creating insane inventions in the castle’s basement, usually spending days at a time down there until someone reminds him to be a person

His prosthetics are melded with his body, wires to veins, metal to skin, it is a part of him and he is very proud of his work (he refuses to tell anyone how he lost half his face, a whole arm, and a lung)

Has a weird enemies with benefits thing going on with Ren tbh

From The Red Kingdom – a member of the royal council

When he showed promise as a student at one of the magic universities, he was taken in by a Sorcerer who allowed him to study whatever magic he pleased

He specialised in mind magic, despite its controversy, and quickly became even more powerful than his mentor

Ren heard about him, and grew worried about that amount of power running wild, so he asked him to join the royal council as an expert in mind magic and a negotiator / ambassador for the kingdom

His chosen magic is fast corrupting, so he dual-specialised in potions, attempting to create a potion that would keep him from losing himself to Sculk or Mage Sickness- this is still a work in progress

Has met Grian several times, but doesn’t know who he is to the Roost kingdom, instead only happening to bump into him at taverns in No Man’s Land while on journeys to the other kingdoms

Technological & Alchemy Mage

From The Red Kingdom, moved to No Man’s Land

He was once a professor of technological magic at a university, obsessed with automation and inventing new mechanisms, but this changed when he delved into alchemy

Like Cleo, he knows what happened to Grian, by pure coincidence of them meeting at a tavern one time soon after Grian had gone missing, and getting into a conversation (which led to a revelation). The meeting coincides with Mumbo’s spiral into alchemy and his near-immediate retreat from society, abandoning his classes and locking himself away in his home

When he was checked on by authorities, he had just finished a very dangerous project. The authorities broke down his door, startling him at a crucial point, and the magic he had distilled from alchemy on gold and silver pieces backfired

The backfiring magic permanently blinded him, and it killed the two guards who had come to check on him, resulting in a warrant being put out for his arrest. This is when he fled The Red Kingdom, with only his sense of magic direction to guide him (poorly), opting instead to live on his own in a cabin in No Man’s Land

He reconnected with Grian and now offers his home for Grian to stay in whenever he needs, which is more often than not these days

How many times do I need to say there’s a weird gay thing going on here

From ???, moved to No Man’s Land

He is wanted for illegal magic use in every kingdom, and guards are always on the lookout for him, but he stays silly

As a sorcerer and necromancer, he is incredibly powerful. He is almost a myth among travelers in No Man’s Land, people often seeking him out to help them with death-related issues or darker magic requests in general

He’s never in the same place twice, always on the move to his next stop and only ever staying for a few days, hyper-aware of the target on his back

Using dark magic has corrupted him, making him unstable and forcing demonic traits upon him despite being human-ish. He has long-term Mage Sickness, and sculk grows in his scars

He eats people as a demon would. Cures his headaches.

Surprisingly friendly to those who don’t want trouble, but can be threatening if he wants

From Thieves Haven – a mercenary

She is loyal to her closest friends and whoever can pay her the most, that’s it

Might eat people on occasion

Despite being a demon, she does not have the gift of magic, though many assume she can turn people to stone

Allows anyone from any standing to hire her, so long as they pay. She has worked spy missions, assassinations, and sabotages for both The Ocean Kingdom and The Red Kingdom, in the past, and is on speaking terms with Ren

Much older than she appears, as demons age very slowly. Has seen the fall of several kingdoms before any of the current leaders were in power.

She was approached by Pearl when Grian went missing, but refused to help, claiming she didn’t have the time to go looking for some dead guy (in reality, she knows what happened to Grian, but didn’t want to tell)

Close friends with Bdubs, one of the few people she actually trusts

Has a fun (read: incredibly dangerous) rivalry with Etho, as two of the most well-known and well-feared mercenaries in the land. She calls him washed up, on account of her stealing all his jobs lately. Divorcedcore

Hunts for Cleo, finding travelers and explorers near the forest and using his gifts in life and soul magic to lure them towards Thieves Haven. He gives the souls to Cleo

Was once an aspiring student of life magic, but an accident happened with his magic one day, transforming his body to mesh with plant-like structures that grew through his muscles and bones. Now he has plants on him. This happened because he unknowingly carries a Mage Sickness gene, which doesn’t hurt him but can screw with his magic

The accident killed two people and he got kicked out of magic med school

When he met Cleo, she was going to kill him, but he was just unhinged enough to make her hesitate. And then she found out how unhinged he really was

Etho

Demon (washed up)

From Thieves Haven – a mercenary

Unlike Cleo, Etho refuses to work for The Red Kingdom, which is the cause of many arguments between them

Familiar more with the illegal magic underground than the demon one, and knows vaguely about both Scar and Mumbo

Genuinely washed up, it isn’t even a joke anymore he’s just tired and kind of angry all the time and no one wants to hire him

Does not eat people (but does eat their souls!) and thinks its pretty gross

I am INCREDIBLY busy, so more often that not my limited free time is my only chance to Chill, so more often than not i spend it on tumblr or reading fic rather than working on creative stuff like writing :/

Huge fan of hermitcraft rn, and etho and bdubs’ dynamic is Great, esp from what ive seen of their life series povs

As a person who is short, i like to think that, anytime bdubs is standing on something higher than whatever ethos standing on, he’ll try to use etho as an arm rest. Not that it works very well, but he tries

Share some personal wisdom or a life hack you swear by

Yeah outlines suck, but its a lot easier to organize yourself if you just jot down a short little sentence/list of stuff you want to happen before you start a chapter, esp if you just finished the last one or you have ideas but nothing concrete planned—it always helps me to have the basic somewhere so that i can daydream abt the details when i cant write

Just like ‘x tries to talk to y abt what happened yesterday’ helps me a bunch, bc instead of thinking abt what to follow the last chapter w, i can think abt how the conversation will go, how they react, if there’ll be fall out—shit like that

I tend to have a little section at the end of my doc w a quick little summary of the next bit, like ‘y dodges questions, they get into a short spat abt y not communicating, x bitches abt it to z’ so i can think abt how the plot points will link up

Entire outlines before you start are overrated, but having little bits of one while you work on it has done Wonders for me

OH BOY DO I HAVE THE ANSWER FOR YOU!!!

First of all: Hermitcraft is essentially a series where a bunch of super talented and pretty longstanding mcyt-ers play on a single minecraft server for a period of a "season" and build absolutely fucking insane bases and vibe together. It's all very structured and organized so on every member's channel u'll find playlists for each season.

(oh and by longstanding mcyt-ers I mean literal pioneers in the mcyt community, people who have redstone inventions named after them bc they've been around longer than the redstone itself--etc)

The server is super chill!!! Everyone is very nice and they all get along super well and coordinate things on a discord server so that everyone's got all the info and they also prioritize building over basically everything--which means like, fire tic is off (meaning fire cannot spread), you do not steal anythign unless you will pay it back at least like twice over (once Grian accidentally killed ppl so he grinded them out full enchanted netherite armor/tools + some blocks and this is literally just like, what everyone does)

But!!!! besides all that!!!! where do you start *watching*!!!!

There are something like,,, 30 members on teh HC server??? more??? I cannot remember. Every one of them posts Hermitcraft episodes to their youtube channels, but there's also a HC recap youtube channel dedicated to weekly recaps of all hermit activity which you can find here!!

The thing about HC is that everytime there's a new update to MC, or even just the server starts to get stale--they throw out the world and start a new, completely empty one from scratch and thus is a new "season." Currently we're only a few episodes into the 8th season!

I watch a very limited scope of HC but--here are my limited reccomendations

GRIANNNNNNNN: because of course, we love grian, we stan grian, he has cats--what more could you ask for? Yes you've seen him gracing your screen in MCC and killing it, and you've also most likely seen him in fanart comparing him to Philza bc both are badass MC players with ✨wings✨he's chaotic and super creative and very kind! he also builds lots of mega builds and they are *incredible.* You're gonna wanna watch him if you want some good, lighthearted gremlin content.

Goodtimeswithscar: my BELOVED!!! This man is like, chaos but make it absolutely harmless. He is Dr. Doofenshmurtz levels of unfunctioning in the best ways possible. Mans tries so hard to be a villain and he just akjsd;lfja;sldfkj cannot pull it off and I adore him so much for it. Also he's got a new vibe every season--last season he was a wizard who lived in a giant snail before moving into a massive mining-construciton-thing??? And this season he has very much Howl's Moving Castle vibes. He also streams on twitch!!! Which I would totally recommend bc he's very chill and fun to listen to. You're gonna wanna watch him if you want a little bit more spice to your episodes--what is that spice exactly? Just watch and you'll see >:))

Some honorable mentions of ppl I don't really watch but love:

Pearlescentmoon: she's a new member to the HC server this season and I love her!!! I've only seen her a bit in Grian and Scar's vids but she took down an entire build just to rotate it like 90 degrees we stan an icon.

Mumbojumbo: a redstone fucking madman--also like--posh?? but in an unoffensive way?? I have no idea this man is so white but also I love him?? that doesn't describe him right just--just watch something of his and you'll understand.

Bdubs: my BELOVED!!! he's just aslkjd;flajsdflk everything, idk man just watch a vid and you'll be in love he's just aslkjdf;lasjkf everything. His starter house is a massive moon with a clock hanging from it it's so pog I love him so much watch his videos

OH AND WHAT'S THAT???? YOU GET HOOKED ON HC CONTENT BUT THINK,,,,,,, 'HM--THERE'S NOT QUITE ENOUGH MURDER IN THIS'???

(everyone has 3 lives--losing the first 2 means nothing, but once you die 3 times you goal becomes to kill every other player on the server. It does not go over like this. Roleplay ensues. Gays are had. What the fuck why does Ren have a scottish accent--why is he dead--MARTYN WHAT--)

This is a lovepost because it's Dream's 2 years on Youtube anniversary today!!

Okay, so, I only really started watching Dream properly around last July/August (so happy 1 year of watching them to me lmfao). Before then, I was only a casual fan, watching whenever he'd appear in my recommended. Then, one day, while I was sat bored, I began to binge the Manhunts and everything went downhill (in a good way!) from there.

I had heard of the dsmp, but because I was only really watching the Dream Team, didn't have any idea about what it was apart from the stuff that would show up in the tumblr tags. I saw things like L'Manburg, elections, pog2020, a war and just sat here utterly confused as to what was happening (at the time, the only SMP's I was really invested in was Hermitcraft and Evo - yes, due to stumbling upon Grian but that's a story for another time).

I started watching the dsmp because I came across Kanaya's song, Marionettes. It got me intrigued in the series, and wanting to find out more about Dream's character (i like villains, they're fun - before anyone comes at me with a steel chair, no, I'm not an apologist, i just enjoy the character, he's interesting, ok?) I became absolutely invested in the world and story everyone had come together to create - my first full arc was the exile arc and i remember refreshing twitch every day to see if Tommy had gone live because I was that interested in what was going on.

Spirit, I hear you ask, this is supposed to be a love post for Dream! But you're talking about your personal experience and the dsmp! Yes, I know, but there's a reason, I assure you.

That reason is that Dream is at the core of all of them.

He decided to play minecraft with his friends and have fun, posting it for the world to see. Because of this, he's grown a community of amazing people, friends and fans alike. It has it's toxic parts, that I won't deny, but the majority of people I've interacted with have genuinely been some of the most creative and kind individuals I've ever had the fortune of speaking to.

Dream himself is an absolute inspiration to me, and I'm sure many others too. The way his brand revolves around smiling, and how he always tries to send out a positive message to his fans; be it doing charity work, supporting others or just sending out a simple "I love you guys". It's so incredible to see. The way he always bounces back, even when it seems like half of the internet is out for his goddamn head, he comes back. He comes back like he's ready to just take on anything, and I don't know how he does it because if I was in his position, I would have quit months ago. Dream has taught me to be strong if nothing else, and to share love and positivity with everyone, but at the same time, it's alright to not be tough all the time.

(He's an amazing actor, too, would just like to add. His character on the SMP, while I understand many used to take the piss out of him because of his voice acting (and in all fairness, kinda understand that one lol) he has improved so fucking much. As someone with an interest in voice acting, the way he's able to strike fear, sympathy or whatever he's striving to invoke in the audience at any point he wishes is fucking outstanding. Just wanted to add that in too because wow. Anyway, continuing on...)

At the end of the day, Dream is just a human. But he's a human living his best life and I admire him for that. He makes mistakes, messes up. He also learns from said mistakes and mess ups, allows himself to be educated on the matter, which is more than a lot of people do.

I just truly think Dream is amazing. He deserves his success. And if he were somehow reading this, I'd want to thank him for everything he's done, and for entertaining me over this past year. It's been an absolute joy to be in this community and I can't wait to see what comes next. I wish Dream (and the DSMP) nothing but happiness for the future. Thanks for reading this long ass post, I appreciate it.
