Okay, but am I the only person who has gotten bullied as a child and thought the obvious best response to this was to pretend to be masochistic and disgusting and make other people so uncomfortable about being next to you

So... am I the only one who really isn't into domestic romance stuff? Like, I don't dislike fluff in general, but if it's the kind of:

"We are having a movie night with popcorn and lots of cuddles!"

Or "We cooked dinner together and we had a nice evening."

Or "We went to the amusement park and ate ice cream afterwards"

Then I'm out. Idk why, but stuff like this just doesn't do it for me. At all. It's weird. It bores me to death at best and gives me a visceral reaction at worst.

The "white picket fence" scenario with the very subtle gender roles in place are just not it to me. The fem!reader character always nurturing and being "wife material", maybe sometimes with a bit sass but never too much. And the masc!SO is... yeah, whoever they are, they are there. (Also reader giving the dude, if he is a gangster or some shit, medical treatment, ALWAYS. Bitch, I can't put a band aid on straight, tf? The "woman is nurse while man is fighter" is a tired trope. Just call that mf an ambulance or drive him to the hospital, I'm not gonna touch his ripped open arm with a two meter pole)

My kind of fluff and "ideal relationship" stuff is just people existing next to one another. No cuddles, no holding hands or hugging and kissing. Just people appreciating being there.

But that wouldn't make for a good fic, so I get why no one would write it, me included 🤡 it's not even romance in the traditional sense, obviously no one would read that shit

But scenarios I would read between "romantic" partners would include:

Sitting at a police station together after getting caught tagging some random wall.

Smoking together and sharing a lighter (if you get what I mean)

Just generally people from less fortunate (lower class) backgrounds existing in the same space and getting by.

And people being equals? No power dynamics, no gender bullshit, just two people treating the other like humans.

Does that make sense?

I don't mean to sound pretentious (if I do, I'm sorry)

If you like the stuff I listed first, that's cool, obviously. Don't let me rain on your parade, read that sappy romance stuff, I believe in you!
