word count: 3.0k
a/n: lol i complain about wanting to write fluff but all my good ideas r so dark 😭 someone needs to give me tips on how to write girls cuz i have no experience would be easier if i was gay boooo!!
he was like a shadow, stuck to your back, always.
you’d complained to lucy numerous times that you didn’t feel comfortable around him when she played at the hob, knowing he’d be there, in the crowd. “sweetie, he was my mentor. he helped me so much in the games, i wouldn’t be here without him. you love me don’t you? so you need to learn to love him too, he’s a good friend a mine. i love you and i gotta get to the stage baby.” she explained as she ran around getting herself and the covey ready.
you were always front row. wanting to be as close to lucy as possible. she looked especially majestic tonight with flowers in her hair. as you listened to her sing you’d managed to forget about the certain blonde peacekeeper near the back. but he hadn’t forgotten about you, nor lucy.
you’d left to get a drink and you’d came back to an unfamiliar tune. you usually knew every song being played off by heart but this was new.
Everyone's born as clean as a whistle
As fresh as a daisy
And not a bit crazy
Staying that way's a hard row for hoeing
she sounded as angelic as usual and the crowd around you seemed entranced.
As rough as a briar
Like walking through fire
This world, it's dark
This world, it's scary
lucy smiled at you once, just once. which threw you off since you usually got a bunch. especially during new songs and songs about you. was this not also about you?
I've taken some hits, so
No wonder I'm wary It's why
I need you
so it is about me! you thought as you closed your eyes, allowing yourself to sway to the music and singing. you’d hoped you wouldn’t miss a smile headed your way.
You're as pure as the driven snow
your eyes flew open as you stared at lucy, she was looking past you and to the peacekeeper. to coriolanus snow. you’d always been a rational person, you prided yourself on restraint but that restraint was hanging on by a thread. you wanted to jam a beer bottle into his neck. lucy was your girlfriend not his. and yet he smiled stupidly towards her as she sang and you could feel your heart clawing its way up. best to leave now rather than stay and hear more of the ever so driven man.
your head was spinning as you slumped to the floor, in one of your finest dresses yet worst mental states. of course, something had formed between the two. she was in the goddamn hunger games and he was her mentor. trauma bonding? he quite literally saved her life, coached her and you did what? sat at home and hoped.
hope could only get you so far.
your hope and faith in lucy gray baird was dwindling as her lyrics swirled in your head. of course she loved him. who wouldn’t? the man was undeniably eye catching. a capitol man. but you’d always imagined lucy staying away from the capitol, despising them. but maybe it wasn’t the captiol part but the man part. maybe she wanted a true life, a home, marriage and children and everything she could wish for.
what on earth could you provide her with?
“y/n?” it sure as hell wasn’t lucy calling out for you and you knew that. coriolanus’s reflection was prominent in the puddle before you as he neared. great, you sneered, would love to get to know you mr peacekeeper. please tell me how you stole my lovely girlfriend from me!
your chest felt oh so heavy as you heard his footsteps in the gravel, determined and unwavering as he made his way to your slumped body. “what do you want? you wanna gloat?” coriolanus stopped in his tracks, gloat? “why would i gloat?” you looked up at him annoyed, “rub it in my face. you practically stole my girlfriend from me.” coriolanus laughed. actually laughed and it made you want to strangle him with his stupid dog tags.
“sweetheart.” vomit. you wanted to vomit. maybe choking and dying on your vomit would be less embarrassing then this. why on earth was this fuck head calling you his sweetheart. “fuck off.”
you didn’t see him coming. and you certainly didn’t expect his demeanour to snap. but the large hand tangled in your open hair was a big slap in the face to your unreadiness. “you of all people don’t get to talk to me like that. do you know who you’re talking to?” you could hear his perfect porcelain teeth grinding at your words. god this man couldn’t handle an insult. wuss.
“what the hell is your- ow! problem!” you yelped as he dragged you into an alleyway. “you need to learn how to respect your superiors. if you’re nice to me, i can make your life easier. doesn’t it hurt? not being able to fully provide for your family? seeing them struggle? do you really think disrespecting a peacekeeper is going to help? i suggest you straighten your act and thank me for even looking your way. there are plenty of other girls here.”
but he didn’t want those other girls. he wanted you. you with the teary eyes and messy hair. you who he’d been seeing in his dreams and during the day. you with the kind smile and curious eyes. you who were so sweet and pretty but mean when need be. the y/n who was stupid enough to spit such hateful words at a peacekeeper. but he’d teach you. whether it be with words and lessons or actions and bruises. you’d learn your place, by his side and lucy’s, and underneath. but with such fearful, brown doe eyes watering up infront of him, the girl he’d heard oh so much about from lucy. how could he refrain from indulging?
his hand reached out to wipe away the few stray tears that fell as his left extended towards your right, which was clutching your head, where he’d grabbed you. “shh, let me help you.” your hand slowly retracted as your heart ran a marathon. the man was obviously unstable, going from a deceptively caring man to violent. coriolanus smiled at your actions, and it freaked you out. he caressed your scalp in an attempt to soothe, “good girl.” he cooed as your apparent saviour approached.
“sweetie?” lucy called out to you as coriolanus withdrew from your personal space. he walked over to her and she let him. he held her hand and spoke with, love? his voice was soft and comforting, his thumb again caressing the back of her hand as they talked, whispered, plotted? god knows, all you wanted was to leave.
was this your chance?
you tested the waters, slow and calculated movements as lucy nodded in agreement with him. but by the time they were done speaking you’d bolted.
but you sure as hell weren’t getting far with these two on your tail, poor y/n l/n. a little dove trying to spread her wings but they were bound to be clipped.
your feet were throbbing and begging for you to slow down. but your brain was in charge for once, your heart which yearned for your dear songbird pushed to the side as your head screamed and urged you to go. she was in league with him apparently. her seeing him corner you and not even batting an eyelash. did she truly care for you so little? did she want to rid herself of you? she could’ve broken up with you and let that be it. maybe the games had twisted her head.
even as you believed yourself to be gaining distance from the two you could hear the not-so distant steps of determined pursuit, headed your way. how would they kill you? slow and intimate? hasty and brutal?
“if you stop running now we won’t be mad little dove!” lucy shouted in warning as you felt yourself momentarily slow at her words. traitor. you thought to yourself as your body involuntary listened, she still had an affect on you. “she’s right, we love you, we won’t hurt you. unless we have to, don’t give us our reasons.”
“shut up!” you screamed. god, i know we haven’t talked in a while. last minute efforts right? maybe he’d listen to you, save you from your tormentors. you should’ve kept your head clear, focused on running. focused on your surroundings and if you had, you would’ve noticed the nearing tree roots, thick and protruding from the ground, ready to knock you down.
you crawled behind the tree, trying to catch your breath as your hands worked tirelessly to provide some form of relief to your aching ankle.
crack.
you’d been found. you fucked up.
“our little dove, ever the sprinter.”
his words had you lurching forwards in an attempt of fleeing but lucy’s cold hand on your ankle dragged protests and cries from your throat as well as you, back to them. “you should’ve listened before, we would’ve been nice. given you some time to adjust, but you can’t sit and think for a second can you?” coriolanus mocked as his hand trailed up your un-injured leg, “that’s okay, you won’t be doing much thinking from now on. we’ll be taking care of you, since you obviously can’t take care a’ yourself baby.” lucy’s voice was saccharine, like honey, and her smile was even sweeter. the familiarity and comfort of her presence was intoxicating, you felt at peace on one side and the other wanted to jump off a cliff. she lowered your guard and coriolanus slithered right in.
the prick in the side of your neck wasn’t painful, but their words were. “you’re with us now, we’ll take care of you, we promise.” and you were stuck, stuck with them for god knows how long.
you blinked away the sleep in your eyes, adjusting to the room. maybe they had killed you? in their own twisted way they’d keep you forever, in their memories and soul. coriolanus and lucy’s voices swam around your head and blended together. you were wrong. yay.
“it’s a bit early for katniss, even if it’s one of her favourites.”
“she should eat something better.”
“better? don’t go all capitol on me now corio.”
he was smiling, you could tell.
“never lucy gray. but she’ll be weak for a few days, proper meals will help her regain some strength.”
you picked your head up and looked through the window, the lake was evident.
“alright, you go grab it and i’ll stay here.”
“why? so you can get more time with her? if anyone should get extra time it’s me.”
“now who was her partner first? oh that’s right, me. you’re acting as if i’m gonna pick her up and run away. if you’re that scared than we’ll both go. take her with us.”
coriolanus’s head whipped towards the cabin and you quickly flopped back down on the bed. you shut your eyes as you heard the door creak open. “gosh, doesn’t she look pretty?” lucy asked, knowing the answer already. “so calm, i liked her better when she was crying.” lucy hit him, “coriolanus snow!” he stroked the side of your face and you had to resist from turning your head and biting his fingers off.
“little dove.” your eyes opened again, turning your head his way tiredly. “we need to get some supplies okay?” you nodded as lucy went outside to gather the baskets she’d left out earlier on to dry. coriolanus’s hand dug into your cheeks as he forced you to look at him, “i told you i’d make you respect me. now listen, if you try anything when we’re in town i will never let you forget it. you’ll know who you belong to every single day. maybe i’ll pay your family a visit? an appointment with the hanging tree for being rebels? stealing?”
you shook your head violently as you began to cry, “you don’t want that? didn’t think so. you listen to me and everything will be fine. your family will get daily help and weekly groceries. they’ll never go hungry again. all thanks to their sweet little girl. lucy’s too nice, but don’t think for a second she’ll save you from me. you’re mine and if you try anything.” he leaned in to whisper, “i’ll strangle her with my bare hands infront of you.” his words were meant to scare you, and they did. but don’t you know? coriolanus snow doesn’t need a reason to do bad things.
coriolanus was wicked and ruthless when it came to what he wanted, if you had any hope of trying to get through this then you’d need lucy’s attention and help. so you nodded. “words sweetheart.” you swallowed your pride, your dignity, and you shook hands with the devil.
“yes, i’ll do what you say.” he straightened up, his white shirt a contrast to his dark thoughts.
“y’all ready to go?” lucy questioned as coriolanus grinned, “yes, yes we are.” he lifted you up and helped you dress, you hadn’t realised the fact that you were only dressed in his own white shirt, dress to you. he handled you like you were the most delicate object. as if he wasn’t hell bent on breaking you, over and over again. till you were fit to his standards. the captiol standards. the snow standards.
his, his, his.
with how obedient you were, he figured you’d do well in the capitol. which was exactly where he was meaning to bring you.
lucy walked in front of the two of you as you made your way through the woods. coriolanus’s hand was glued to your waist as he held you close, afraid to let go. you were at flight risk of course. his grip was tight and bruising. lucy’s humming distracted you at times, if you were delusional enough you could imagine it to be the two of you. your brothers far infront and the covey following. after an amazing afternoon at the lake, heading home for dinner, maybe a performance or the night shift.
your daydreaming was interrupted when you clocked coriolanus’s missing hand from your waist, and his arm now around lucy grays throat.
don’t you remember? you’d do well in the capitol! you were his! but not entirely, no.
not with her in the way.
you were frozen in place as lucy clawed at him before reaching out for you. a plea, a cry for help and aid yet you stood stuck in fear. a minute, two. she’d put up a strong fight, especially when you ran towards the two, pushing and shoving at coriolanus to let her go. but again, you fucked up.
here lies lucy gray baird, singer, victor, psycho.
obsessed? madly in love? you couldn’t think of another word, and as much as you wished to forget her, forget how she’d practically allowed another man into your relationship and let him kidnap you. her lifeless face and hollow eyes made your heart clench. but soon enough she was rolled over, thrown in a pre-made hole and buried. she’d survived the games but no one survived coriolanus snow.
“don’t forget what i said. don’t forget what you agreed to. you said you’d do as i say, i’m telling you to get up and follow me. we’re leaving district 12.” your face was painted with confusion as coriolanus clutched your face, “i’m going back, and you’re coming with me. don’t ask questions, just do as i say.”
and you did.
when he had you say goodbye to your family, a courtesy, a privilege he’d granted you. you kept it short and sweet, no questions just hugs and false promises of return.
when he ushered you onto the train and he wanted you to sit and be silent, you did.
through his time at the university, he wanted you close to him, living with him. and you did.
through his presidency campaign he wanted for you to charm sponsors and entice newcomers. you did.
when he wanted to marry you in a grand spectacle infront of the captiol and dress you up, you did as he asked.
when he held you down on your wedding night after tearing your dress off, biting and marking you down all over, pushing you down to your knees and took you all over the house, asking you to give yourself to him as if he didn’t take you anyways, you did.
you had no idea why at this point.
for your family? who hadn’t reached out in so long, even when they promised to talk to you every day? coriolanus had them all arrested, punished and hung for inciting riots and uprisings.
for your friends whom listened to your concerns of the capitol peacekeeper who hovered and didn’t make you feel crazy? each of them ended up dead in many different ways, hung, shot, a mugging gone wrong.
you didn’t know at this point and when you looked in the mirror you didn’t recognise the girl who stared back. a captiol sheep, dressed up in the finest silk dresses and slick heels yet the filth underneath the finery, jewels, and makeup weighed you down. each time he touched you, kissed you, fucked you, it felt like a peace of yourself was thrown away.
and as you clutched your swelling stomach, you couldn’t help but feel pity for baby number four.
maybe you’d grow up and find love.
maybe i’ll be able to take you all away from him.
maybe we’ll heal.
you thought, but in the back of your head, a little voice wouldn’t shut up.
you’ll always be his little dove.

I think about Star Wars a lot more than I post about Star Wars, and I've had some free time recently to type up some thoughts on Episode 7 that've been swirling around in my head for a couple of years. There were a few ideas and plot beats, and moments of apparent self-examination in Episode 7 which I thought were fairly compelling, even though they ultimately paid no dividends:
First was Finn’s character concept. “Star Wars as experienced from the perspective of a Stormtrooper undergoing a crisis of faith” is a rich hook; humanizing and giving a face to what's basically the platonic implementation of the faceless mook. Unfortunately, the potency of the arc was undercut by the pre-existing textual ambiguity as to what stormtroopers actually are. Star Wars extended canon has settled on the idea that each trilogy features an entirely novel cohort of white-clad mooks, each with a fundamentally different underlying dynamic. The clones and the First-Order forces are different flavors of slave army; in contrast, the stormtroopers are more frequently portrayed in the expanded universe as military careerists, stormtrooper being a thing you work up to rather than a gig for a fresh conscript. A slave-soldier who defects is a very different character from a military careerist who defects, and they invite different analysis. There's a bait-and-switch going on here, in that Finn gestures in the direction of the familiar OT stormtroopers but can't comment on or examine them because he's actually part of a novel dynamic invented for the new movies. And there's one final nail in the coffin here, signaled by the number of times I've had to invoke the expanded universe so far. When Finn debuted, the racists were of course, legion, but I also ran into a number of people who were sincerely confused as to why they'd recast Temuera Morrison. Going off the seven films that existed at the time, it wasn't unreasonable to read the prequel trilogy as an origin story for where the OT stormtroopers came from. Going only off the nine films that exist now, it still isn't unreasonable! It's muddied from so many different directions by their failure to establish the ground rules in the mainline films before they tried to put on subversive airs about it. I am still irritated by this.
Next up is how Han Solo was written. I actually liked the tack they took with him quite a bit. Because initially, right, his role in the movie is just to be Han Solo. He's back, and he hasn't changed! He's still kicking ass and taking names, he's still the lovable scoundrel you knew and loved from your childhood- and the principle cast members react to his presence with the same reverence the film's trying to invoke in the audience, they've grown up hearing the same stories about him. Except that episode 7, at least, is also very aware of the fact that if Han Solo is still recognizably the same guy thirty years on, it indicates that things have gone totally off the rails for him. We find out that the lovable rogue routine is the result of him backsliding, his happy ending blown up by massive personal tragedy rooted in communicative failures and (implicitly) his parental shortcomings. It feels deliberately in conversation with the nostalgic impulse driving the entire film- here's your childhood hero back just as you remember, here's what that stagnation costs. And it also feels like it's in conversation with what was a fairly common strain of Han Solo Take- the idea that Ep. 6 cuts off at a very convenient point, and that Han and Leia's fly-by-night wartime relationship wouldn't survive the rigors of domesticity. Obviously, that's not the only direction you can take with the character; the old EU basically threaded the needle of keeping Han recognizable without rolling back his character development gains. But it felt like they were actually committing to a direction, a direction that was aware of the space, and not a reflexively deferential and flattering one, which at the time I appreciated! The problem, of course, is that for it to really land, you need to have a really, really strong idea of what actually went down-of what Han's specific shortcomings and failures were. And given the game of ping-pong they proceeded to play with Kylo Ren's characterization, this turned out to be. Less than doable.
Kylo Ren is the third thing about Episode 7 that I liked. His character concept is basically an extended admission by the filmmakers that there's no way to top Vader as an antagonist. Instead, they lean into the opposite direction- they make him underwhelming on purpose. Someone who's chasing Vader's legacy in the same way any post-OT Star Wars villain is going to, pursuing Vader's aesthetic and the associated power without really understanding or undergoing the convoluted web of suffering and dysfunction that produced Vader. It's framed as a genuine twist that there's nothing particularly wrong with his face under that helmet. Whatever it takes to be Vader, he doesn't have it, and he knows that he doesn't have it, and the pursuit of it drives him to greater and greater acts of cartoonish villainy. The failure to one-up Vader is offloaded to the character instead of the writers, and it was genuinely interesting to watch. For one movie. The problem, of course, is that if the entire character archetype is "Vader, but less compelling," you can't try to give the bastard Vader's exact character arc. You can't retroactively bolt on a Vader-tier tragic backstory when you spent a whole movie signaling that whatever happened to him wasn't as compelling as what happened to Vader. You can't milk his angst for two more movies when it's the kind of angst on display in "Rocking the Suburbs" by Ben Folds!
There's a level on which I feel like Moff Gideon was a semi-successful implementation of Vader-Wannabe concept; he's the same kind of middling operator courting the Vader Aesthetic for clout, but he's doing it in the context of the imperial warlord era, where there's a lot of practical power available to anyone who can paint themselves to the Imperial Remnants as a plausible successor to Vader. Hand in Hand with this obvious politicking, Gideon is loathsome, which relieves the writers of the burden of having to plausibly redeem the guy; he's doing exactly what he needs to do and there'll never be a mandate to expand him beyond what his characterization can support. Unfortunately, the calculated and cynical nature of how he's emulating Vader precludes the immaturity and hero-worship elements on display with Kylo, which is unfortunate; the sincerity on display in Kylo's pursuit of authenticity is an important part of why he worked, to the extent that he worked at all, and it'd be worth unpacking in a better trilogy. As he stands Kylo is a clever idea, and that's all he is- he lacks the scaffolding to go from merely clever to actively good.

Nico Di Angelo x Son of the fates ♾️
Pairing(s): Nico Di Angelo x Male! Reader
The request was one of the specific fates but I feel like my hcs could be applicable to any
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Definitely an interesting dynamic
When you’re first introduced to each other there isn’t much interest but then he hears your godly parent
I’d imagine that there would be a ton of thoughts going through his head but one especially comes to mind
That would be Bianca
Sure, he’s learned to accept what happened but the pain and need for her still exists- even if it’s a bit different
You two were introduced in a group, probably while things were being discussed in the big house between cabins
Either way you peak his interest and his eyes follow you wherever you go
Unbeknownst to him, you’re aware of this-
Not many people know but you’re able to see glimpses of the future and especially in visions
And lesser known? You’re even able to manipulate the fates of people
With some limits of course but it’s still all the same
So when Nico approaches you it’s probably in the middle of the night and asks you a single question
“Could Bianca have met a different fate”?
It’s shocking to say the least
The person whose so closed off and secretive comes to a complete stranger and asks a question that no one would’ve expected
You can’t say u don’t know what he’s talking about, you know of Bianca
I mean who doesn’t remember her? Maybe some newer campers but you’re especially familiar
So, with the options of letting Nico be torn apart by harpy’s from finding him out after curfew or letting him in, you chose the latter
You let him in and let him know it’s a bit difficult to see the possible alternate futures without the person directly there- but someone close to her would do
So you do what you need and see into her possible futures- albeit a bit difficult as her thread was cut many years ago
Well in the end you have to break the terrible news of the fact there was no way around it- unless someone else died in her place but even that was close to impossible of happening
He left with a small thanks and you knew he was gone once the crickets started chirping again
The next morning you see him around again- maybe even more
It was hard to say how it happened but before no time you two were like this 🤞
That’s to say- close)
It was before sunrise and the two of you were just chilling in the morning freshness near the lake
Usually Nico despised the morning- but he’d be up before 12 p.m today, just for you
You two sat there going about your usual teasing and sarcastically dark humored comments when he turns to you and blurts out
“I like you”
Your head obviously whipped from the rising sun to him just to see him facing the other way
Knowing him, he was probably flushed and even more? Scared of ruining your friendship
Maybe he was braver than you thought because he turns back to you and asks “did you see that?”
Obviously referencing your ability to see the future
The whole situation was just funny, maybe there was something wrong with you but maybe not since Nico was laughing too
Of course you two actually discuss things and soon after you were proud to announce your new relationship
Things weren’t all that different- Nico was still your best friend but even better, your boyfriend
You two would usually go on quests and stuff together
I mean it’d mean the possible end for anyone who dared to separate you two
Your future sight could confirm that
Well anyway,
Things remained the same, demigods you cared for died and life happened
Normal things for any demigod to go through but there’s a memory that especially stuck out
That one being when Nico had discovered your ability to change fate
It was not something to be expected of a demigod- especially a power as strong as this
Of course there’s some limits- you’re not exactly a god but it’s whatever
Yknow, because of the limits (rarely being able to use it unless in dire need)
when Nico ran out of juice and tired out, a monster or whatever it was that you guys were battling got him trapped and fear overtook you all at once
You don’t exactly remember how it happened but all you know is that it just did
And while the monster was originally fated to die and Nico was to be direly hurt- you changed it so it’d die from complications and Nico would be alright
What happened wasn’t really discussed until after the quest and until after you reached Nicos cabin
No one else (Hazel) was staying over so might as well join him in a nice cuddle sesh
The silence stretched for ages and everything must come to an end, so obviously that silence did
Nico spoke up in a way you could tell he was hyper aware of his wording and tone
“What…what was that power? I was clearly going to get hurt in the end”
He continued “and you blacked out, you don’t have to explain but if anything I’m just worried”
He tried being non chalant about it but his worry was prominent
“I’m able to change the fate of people- but only when in dire need and when I’m especially scared!” You arose and faced Nico panicked, trying to make sure he didn’t get the wrong idea.
Especially since you know how he resented Percy for not doing anything about she that shall not be named)
Nico sighed, sensing how you feel “I hope you didn’t hold that information thinking I’d be upset you didn’t change her fate- it hurts,it does and we both know it’s a sore topic but I’ve matured past blaming people”
You were surprised he directly brought up the elephant in the room but it didn’t end there
“I’m also sorry that I made you feel like you couldn’t talk about something about yourself.” He looked at you with a calm smile and his eyes softened “I love everything about you, so I wouldn’t blame you for anything that has nothing to do with you, even if something could’ve been changed.”
His whole speech was so heartfelt and the night ended with the tension eased and the two of you guys snuggled tightly with each other.
There’s of course some sweet moments between the two of you
It definitely makes for an interesting dynamic when you confess that you knew you’d end up with Nico and when he asks how or why or whatever
You simply reply that your strings are intertwined with one another
This definitely makes Nico more flustered than he’d like to admit
Even if you two never discuss this again he’s always thinking about
And thinking about how you and him are basically soulmates always reassures him when and if he ever feels insecure of your relationship
Not to mention how it’s got him giggling in secret but let’s not discuss that
Of course he doesn’t know if you’re being honest but it makes him feel warm and fuzzy all the same (it is true, I confirm)
Eventually you explore your abilities more but you end up wherever fate leads you(get it?😉) cringe ik 😔

One of the US reviews for TCND:
These days, Sam Heughan is a fan-favorite presence on the small screen, but he wouldn't have garnered mainstream awareness if it hadn't been for his breakout role in the hit television adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander book series. Over the last decade, Heughan's performance as a swoony Scottish hero and self-professed wife guy on the Starz series has propelled him to certified heartthrob status — but with Outlander finally set to conclude with its eighth and final season at a date yet to be determined, it's no wonder Heughan has been taking other projects, perhaps in an effort to step out from the long shadow that Jamie Fraser still casts.
On paper, The Couple Next Door, Starz's six-part psychological thriller based on the Dutch series Nieuwe Buren, has a lot going for it, as messy relationship dynamics play out against the idyllic backdrop of suburbia — and at first, the show gives every indication that it's ramping up to an erotic, twisted climax. But despite best attempts from Heughan, along with his main co-stars Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark), Jessica de Gouw (Arrow), and Alfred Enoch (How To Get Away With Murder), the series frustratingly pivots away from its most intriguing elements in favor of weaker B-plots, ultimately resulting in a hectic finale that relies too heavily on outdated, regressive tropes to drive its biggest conflicts.
What Is 'The Couple Next Door' About?
Primary school teacher Evie Greenwood (Tomlinson) and her partner, journalist Pete Thomas (Enoch), are looking for a fresh start in more ways than one. Moving to a small suburb in Leeds feels like the right next move for the young couple, especially once they run into their next-door neighbors, PC Danny Whitwell (Heughan) and his wife, yoga instructor Becka (de Gouw), while attempting to lug their belongings into the new house. Evie is drawn to the beautiful young couple from the start for a variety of reasons, the most obvious being her attraction to Danny. However, as someone who grew up in a very conservative, religious household, Evie's eyes are soon opened to her neighbors' more non-traditional lifestyle.
As the four spend more and more time together, Becka and Danny disclose the fact that they're non-monogamous, even if they make a point of always "playing" together with other couples. As Evie starts to entertain the idea of experimentation, Pete's reservations about opening up their relationship lead to rising tensions. Yet their drama isn't the only one that plays out within this seemingly sleepy community. As a somewhat lowly traffic cop with little authority and mounting bills to pay, Danny begins to accept late-night jobs that don't exactly fall on the legal side of things — right around the time that Pete starts digging into local corruption for his latest exposé. As for Becka, she's built a successful social media presence, but she's also attracted a creepy real-life stalker in the process, one who isn't willing to go away without throwing a wrench into her picture-perfect existence.
Tumblr media
Over the first half of its eight episodes (all of which were provided for review), The Couple Next Door has a lot of promise, especially when it focuses on the evolving and tangled relationships between its main foursome. Yet the series is also majorly underserved by its pacing, as it spends a significant amount of time devoted to building up that tension and then ultimately fails at offering a more nuanced depiction of attraction and obsession given the sheer number of other characters and storylines that have to be juggled. The problem is that none of these secondary threads are even remotely as interesting as the main one; every scene spared for Becka's stalker, or Danny's off-the-books job, or any side character for that matter, feels like a missed opportunity to return to the emotional rollercoaster playing out between the two leading couples. Cutting at least one of these B-plots may also have resulted in a better lead-up to the finale, which climaxes in a way that feels extreme, even for these four.
Some characters are afforded better treatment — in many instances, de Gouw's Becka feels like one of the only mature adults in the room — but others seem to regress in increasingly drastic ways purely for the sake of drama. Unfortunately, The Couple Next Door joins recent films like Nightbitch and Babygirl in giving one of its female characters a backstory steeped in extreme, cult-like religion that feels perplexing at best and reductive at worst in justifying sexual exploration. Evie's ignorance about polyamory could've been filtered through a simpler, more straightforward premise of a woman embracing her innermost desires, and the blurred lines that result when she finds herself falling for the one person she shouldn't. But Tomlinson's character is done the biggest disservice over the course of the season; as Evie's fixation on Danny intensifies, she becomes even more of a caricature, with her later scenes devolving into stereotypical '80s erotic thriller territory — and not in a way that can be considered complimentary. The show's men don't fare any better; while he does have excellent chemistry with both Tomlinson and de Gouw in the scenes that call for it, Heughan is given very little to do other than handsomely brood. Meanwhile, Enoch, in welcome contrast, initially gets to play a more level-headed and less alpha presence, but, like Evie, Pete's characterization annoyingly falls prey to jealousy and rage.
In many ways, this show would have been better off solely revolving around these objectively attractive people and the palpable tension that stems from them debating whether they should all sleep together — and to a point, The Couple Next Door delivers on that front. But the season quickly becomes derailed by way of less intriguing subplots, disappointing character regression, and poor pacing that struggles to build to a satisfying finale. It'd be one thing if there was a promise for more at the end of it all, but with the show having already been renewed for a Season 2 featuring a completely new cast, there's no opportunity for this version of The Couple Next Door to continue. Given how it all wraps up, though, maybe that's for the best.
The Couple Next Door premieres January 17 on Starz.

helloooo everyone, i'm back! and hopefully, this time i can properly get things going. sorry for disappearing all of a sudden, i’ve had a crazy schedule that burned out most of my writing inspo but i’m trying to get back into the swing of things!
this is a not-so-brief update masterpost and plot call for all my muses: @bejaeyoung, @beyuwol, @beclaudine and @beseonghan! under the cut i have noted down how my muses are doing currently, because they’ve been around in the wannabeverse for a while and have gone through significant changes! i’ll also be listing a few new and fresh connections that you’re free to nab or potential dynamics/thread ideas that can be explored with existing connections! these are more character-driven ideas!
please like this post if you’re interested in plotting with my muses! let me know if you have other ideas too! i’ll still be kind of slow, so thank you in advance for your patience with me 🫶
jay song — fuck. this guy again? seriously?
back at it again with my most annoying muse who has no sense of boundaries and lacks a traditional thought process! honestly, kind of in a weird place right now? then again, it’s never normal with jay, and he’d rather explode into shattering shards before ever conforming to a normal and boring routine. he hasn't changed all that much, he doesn't like change after all! still a chaotic force, despite having learned a thing or two about... boundaries and filtering his mouth, so he's easier to swallow by the average lay man. but not by much! right now, he's dealing with a slight change in routine, where two constant presence (his sister and his boyfriend) in his life are suddenly too busy to be around (both related to idol life and debuting too). he's... a little lonelier! not that he'll admit it! this means he might seek out new people, or revisit old connections just for fun!
completely new folks! jay is an easy person to 'get along' with or approach, if you can handle how he talks a mile a minute and has no coherent thought process. he's the definition of a studio delta trainee, so wannabes who want to know what it's like as a trainee, especially from someone who participated in next gen (his run in next gen was... quite dramafilled too!) are free to ask him questions.
old flames... jay has an awful track record of unlabelled situationships that ended up exploding messily. no one would believe that jay is properly in a relationship now, but he is...! i think that might inspire him to, at the very least, make peace with the people in his past one way or another. or to keep a friendship that was lost because of feelings.
friends from vtuber days? i've never properly explored this side of him, but i would like jay to have a few friends from his streaming days! he was a vtuber that mostly uplodaded content to youtube (gaming, covers, etc.), he never actually revealed himself too... so friends who he used to stream with, who he collabed with (can be on other platforms other than youtube)! i think it would be really funny if they also just discovered one another recently? since jay never showed his face as a streamer, it'd be funny if they eventually met irl and realized... wait a minute i know that voice!
trainee friends... jay has been eating nothing but cup noodles lately, which is probably obvious during lunch time when everyone eats together in the cafeteria. you're free to call him out on it! he always gravitates towards figures that can take care of him, in a sense. people from next gen that he wants to reconnect with! see what you're up to now that the show is looong over!
more... friends! jay has a habit of forgetting a lot of things, including people, and he can be rather wishy washy when it comes to keeping contact. friends who took it the wrong way that jay never contacted them... he probably just genuinely forgot but it must feel awful to be forgotten!
other stuff? the listener to his yapper! someone he can string along to his whims, and there's a lot of them. it'd be funny if someone also knew him from his underground producer days but then met jay irl and whatever perception they had of jay shattered.
han yuwol — okay, let’s go yuwolaches.
the super depressed neurotic musician who got called out for being kinda weird during a reality show is now... a little better these days! after not winning in next gen, his parents put a tighter metaphorical leash around his neck and forbade him from straying from the violin prodigy classical 'appropriate' music that's already fixed for his future. but then he auditioned for sr media and got in! but his parents challenged him to be able to juggle both his usual packed schedule of violin lessons and training at the same time... so he'd look super tired. like, seriously. he'd look like he's about to pass out everytime... but he survived this far! personality wise though... he's a lot more open these days? maybe it has something to do with the fact a lot of his failures were already plastered on national tv, he already 'embarrassed' his family too... so what more is there to hide? plus, with his tumultuous experience, he has learned to be encouraging to others too! he wants to be helpful now! although he might still be awkward and reserved.
ex next gen participants... yuwol hasn't forgotten the people who helped him out throughout next gen. you know who you are! he's eternally grateful for the support and he wants to get closer to you... especially now that he's also a fellow trainee...
other trainees! someone is bound to notice how unnaturally overworked yuwol is... or maybe not? everyone's overworked... but hey, yuwol looks like he's genuinely about to faint right now! help! or... a funny plot, yuwol and his dead eyes and ghost-like features is bound to scare another trainee who stayed a little later into the night than usual... oops?
from a not-so-distant past... someone who might've known yuwol from the classical music scene OR someone who came across yuwol when he was still active in a band! it was rather brief, but it's still a possibility!
high energy people that he can mellow down... he's a rather calm and very soft-spoken person, so it'd be nice if he got along with someone who's a lot more outgoing!
a kindred spirit... someone else who knows what it's like to have parents that dictate everything you do
or a switcheroo? you were the one who knows themselves, when yuwol was the antisocial guy who'd rather rot in bed... but now that he's coming out of his shell a little more, you're going through the opposite?
convince him to audition for the drama! unfortunately yuwol still has zero faith in himself and needs a little more push (or manipulation??? lol) into auditioning for the drama. special bonus: you get a possible mention in the audition solo later on!
interested in the trainee life? yuwol is probably the easiest to talk to when it comes to how he feels abt the matter, how hard it had been to get here, things like that.
claudine rhee — still as vain as ever... for good reason!
somehow, claudine got herself a spot as a lime entertainment trainee! she's disappointed that sr media didn't end up picking her, but she's turning that into motivation to show them what they're really missing! despite being on the path to an idol, she's still hoping she can dabble into acting at one point, be a good idol-actress that exceeds whatever image line will give her in the future. she's sad she has to halt her professional career in cosplaying/cosplay modelling, but sacrifices has to be made... literally nothing has changed for her. she's still a hardworking girl, who may be a little vain... but with her looks how can she not be!? she's confident in herself but knows she has to prove herself by working extra hard! oh, and she's still giving older sister vibes.
sr media trainees... she's a little jealous that you guys can focus on acting, because that's what she wants to do given the opportunity. she's also kind of nosy, so she wants to know what your experience is like!
little sibling figures that she can spoil. it's easy to get her worried if that's how she sees you... she'll also would want to know every detail of your day, she'll judge whoever you're seeing—it's all coming from a place of love though!
any girlies...? claudine isn't afraid to call a girl pretty lol. she loves being surrounded by beautiful girls... she also loves dressing you up and putting make-up on your face! even though it can get very sapphic if she's putting make-up on your face while sitting on your lap... just kidding? unless?
here for the idol life! but claudine clearly... isn't? then what is claudine even here for? you're probably more passionate about music and idols than claudine is, and you don't understand how she managed to get into lime! on the other hand, if you are equipped with knowledge, claudine will approach you and ask you to fill in a few gaps for her: she can learn fast!
baek seonghan — deeply moonstruck.
what even is his deal? seonghan is still someone that's really hard to make out, nothing has changed... except the fact that the people he thought would be stuck in the shadows with him are slowly inching towards the light, and now he feels like he'll be left behind in the dark forever. something like that... dramatic ass... somehow he became a lime entertainment trainee, and currently he's doing whatever is demanded of him as a trainee too. he's like an empty husk that can be filled with whatever staff or mentors want, malleable and whatever! shaped into whatever is needed! umm... well seonghan is still the crazily punctual guy who sticks to a schedule and routine and never deviates from it. high scores, 'hard working', but he lacks a passion in everything he does because he doesn't particularly enjoy anything. he doesn't get how others can be moved or swayed by music and song, he doesn't pretend to... he's just here to get the job done, whatever that is!
trainee... friends? even though seonghan doesn't understand the concept of finding passion in music, he does still have an innate curiosity when it comes to people that do. he's surrounded by quite a few people like that right now... so maybe there's a chance to strike a conversation here!
seonghan has synesthesia, it isn't exactly something he discloses though. but maybe he heard you singing in the studio or somewhere else and started focusing around your head... he's just seeing colours, but maybe you're a little freaked out that someone is looking at you so intensely!
you're a messy person... seonghan is the complete opposite of that. he hates messes, he hates dirt, he can't stand filth... he wears gloves often for a reason! maybe you made a mess and seonghan can't stand it and cleans up after you... maybe you live like a trash raccoon and seonghan, out of the kindness of his heart (lol) offered to help you clean up... but then he sees just how filthy the place is and is not pleased.
coffee is sustenance, seonghan needs his daily dose of coffee everyday, it's an important part of his morning routine. maybe you work where he frequents for coffee... but there's a slight change in schedule lately because of trainee life! seonghan is never late nor does he ever deviate from routine! maybe you can ask!
are you empty too? or are you the opposite? do you enjoy trainee life or do you feel more like him... a little aimless? doesn't have to be trainees! maybe you two can bond over your shared... lack of a goal.
his mother was an idol, but she passed a while back (rather... brutally) and no one really knew that he was her kid. however, maybe your muse or their parents were fans... and you notice that there are similarities between that idol and seonghan visually! he did attend the idol history workshop... if you also did maybe you noticed his reaction when a certain idol was mentioned offhandedly.

What Is 'The Couple Next Door' About?
youtube

I'd say the reviewer writing about TCND is one of many people who must have already watched the entire season 1 before it releases next week and wasn't impressed. But long story short, it's not looking good, and we have been talking about this series since 2023, and the facts don't change 😮 This is harsh.
You feel like there's been something disingenuous and specific about the way STARZ has been selling and presenting the show. TCND's drama is solely about and related to the Outlander actor, to the point the author refers to: "Sam Heughan's Steamy psychological thriller series" wouldn't have bothered me so much if the network hadn't gone to great lengths to push a campaign to promote Sam Heughan (STARZ's “eye candy” 🍭) as the only lead actor in TCND when the series has 4 lead actors and the other 3 actors are rarely mentioned even though it's Jessica De Gouw who stole the show.
STARZ sent Heughan to the TCA Press Tour Summer 2024 in Pasadena CA — at the TCA Television Critics Association to promote the series on a solo tour to achieve consideration alongside the critics. On this occasion, Starz’s actor presented Outlander and The Couple Next Door, alone. When normally a press tour includes the casts, writers, directors, and producers of several series across different networks and streamers. We haven't seen the results.
The Couple Next Door is a copy based on the Dutch television series New Neighbours “Nieuwe Buren” (The Swingers in English) which was also based on the book of the same name by Saskia Noort. The Dutch version is still broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK and you can see and compare in the series the difference between a barely simmering and boiling.😏 It seems Eleanor didn’t want nudity with sexual scenes, but Sam is the only one nude in the scene getting it done just to get it out of the way. So, None of those scenes are as realistic as in real life. She and Heuhgan can’t deliver in this drama-thriller the erotic thrill of actual danger.
TCND season 1 is a boring old formula - sex sells! From episode 1 we already knew where this was heading. A somewhat predictable tired plot. This was not entirely filmed in the UK and the place related is not Leeds 🇬🇧 Little research was done.
If STARZ wants to be cutting edge then give a drama that doesn't always rely on sex or Sam Heughan to bolster the viewers ' interest. In UK the critics were equally tired of this unimaginative tropes.
Pretty sure this drama-thriller will be received anxiously by Heughan’s fans, the kind of viewers that suspend all reason and logic and then give glowing reviews with many stars ✳️✳️✳️ Bit of a stretch eh?

Sunday 12th January 2025 The Couple Next Door ranked as the #798 most popular show online and was the #7 most popular TV show on Channel 4. The current engagement score for The Couple Next Door is 0.92. In this position, TCND season 1 will be launched this week on STARZ in America

Severance, S2
Tumblr media
By necessity, season 2 of Severance is a balancing act between the bits that made its first season so successful and new ideas demanded by the expanding scope of the plot. Amidst this shift, some of the nuts & bolts plotting starts to feel contrived in a way S1 always avoided – why can’t Reghabi say more than one sentence at a time? Why did Mark drive to this random barn to test his eye trick? – and so on. The vibes are still killer, though, the corporate satire remains biting, and the character work is immaculate.
Tumblr media
For the majority of the first season, Mark was the only severed employee whose story we got to see both sides of. With the remainder of the cast’s outies revealed in the finale, though, S2 is free to dig into the rest of MDR’s lives, and wastes no time in unveiling compelling conflicts.
Tumblr media
Helena is revealed to be both batshit crazy and incredibly repressed: she spends her free time gazing longingly at the innies, seemingly torn at every moment between envy at their ability to experience unfiltered emotions and some wild objectifying slaveowner shit. Then, not to be outdone by S1’s news report of a pregnant severed employee, Helena ups the ante by violating the bodily autonomy of three people at once by fucking Mark S at the ORTBO*.
*ORTBO, by the way, what an acronym. just rolls off the tongue. ORTBO. love it.
Tumblr media
Dylan’s relationship with his outie’s wife is heartbreaking – Gretchen gets a glimpse of what her husband was like before the crushing weight of years of depression, and iDylan learns exactly how barren the innie’s lives on the severed floor truly are.
Tumblr media
Irv becomes an exciting case study in reintegration. Rather than Reghabi’s medical procedure, Irving is essentially doing DIY integration, with his two selves continuing to bleed together more and more as his innie manifests oIrving’s clinical attention to detail and nose for investigation. Peaking with his powerhouse performance in Woe’s Hollow, Irv’s arc is one of the strongest… at least, until he’s unceremoniously shipped off to a farm upstate like an aging childhood pet.
Tumblr media
Even amidst all these fresh plot threads, Mark’s innie / outie dynamic is still the most well-developed. This is fitting, given that in S2 we learn that Mark is not only the main character of the show, but the main character in-universe: turns out Lumon is on some real Evangelion dead wife shit, and the whole MDR project is built specifically around him. The season’s meatiest conflict comes from oMark and iMark finally getting a chance to communicate directly, and the results are exactly as juicy as they ought to be.
To be honest, until that scene, I never considered quite how lopsided reintegration is for the innies. Up to this point, the show really has framed severance as if you’re creating a second, smaller person inside you: a subset of your Self. S2 makes it clear that being severed fully creates a second person, and there’s just no going back from that. It’s even headier than the backup conundrum – how do you reintegrate two versions of a person with shared memories that diverge at a certain point? – because there’s no shared history. To reintegrate as Reghabi imagines it, you’d essentially be distilling one person from two.
Tumblr media
I also loved how much time we got to spend with Milchick this season. He’s long been one of Severance’s biggest question marks: is he a genuine Kier fanatic like Cobel, or is he just toeing the company line? Does he truly believe all the stories he tells the innies, or are they mere tools of control? What is it that pushes him to do what he does, and put so much effort into it? Even at the season’s end, we’re left with no inkling about Milchick’s past or his life outside of Lumon.
Tumblr media
We do, however, finally start to see some cracks – not information, exactly, but flashes of emotion that expose the turmoil within. There’s an interesting beat in episode 2 where Rickon compliments Milchick’s motorcycle helmet and he seems almost taken aback. Milchick clearly takes pride in his appearance and dress, but no one ever acknowledges his efforts – fashion is wasted on the innies, of course, and nothing would ever be good enough for his Lumon superiors – so this offhand praise is like a spring in a desert. The ORTBO generally is a disaster indicative of Milchick’s lapsed authority, but the way he loses control when the innies poke fun at the campfire parable is striking – it’s more emotion than he showed even when Dylan fucking bit him. And of course, we have the ordeal with the “inclusively re-canonicalized” paintings… spot-on satire of the hollow corporate pretext of inclusion and a revealing character moment rolled into one.
Tumblr media
“It’s meaningful to see myself reflected in… ..."
Let me say this, though. For how obviously the cult is manipulative bullshit, for how bland and uninspiring I thought the Kier hymn was the first time I heard it… once you’ve got an entire drumline bumping that shit? I see the vision, ngl
Tumblr media
unrelated: "The numbers are your wife" is one of the funniest lines of dialogue I've ever heard
Tumblr media
On the whole, I think it’s a mark of confident writing that S2 largely moves on from office antics. It comes off as a refusal from the writers to retread the same ground, and it makes sense narratively – as we see in S2, there’s no way MDR could possibly go back to business as usual after what they’ve learned. The only issue with this shift is that it’s accompanied by a drastic reduction in scenes occurring outside of Lumon. In the first season, we got all sorts of external viewpoints – the senator and his wife, the newscast with Natalie, the anti-Lumon protesters, Alexa – which served to flesh out the show’s world. Without them, the setting starts feeling a little flimsy. It’s funny – I thought the punk scene was the corniest thing in the entire first season, but looking back, it made the world seem lived-in… even if it was a 70-year old man’s idea of what punk shows are like.
Relatedly, it’s weird that we don’t see any external repercussions from the events of S1’s finale. We’re told that Lumon did their best to limit the reach of Helly’s outburst, but we’ve seen SO many vehemently anti-Lumon factions, it’s hard for me to believe word didn’t spread. Like, c’mon, not even super-spy Irving? Especially super-spy Irving! Alongside an exasperating debate about the meaning of iMark’s “She’s alive!” proclamation, it retroactively diminishes the impact of the S1 finale in a way I found frustrating.
Tumblr media
Nitpicks aside, though, S2 was a stellar follow-up. I still have my reservations about the mystery box nature of the show (especially now that the creators are openly discussing how much lore they’re making up as they go along), but this season convinced me that, if nothing else, the striking character work Severance’s premise allows for will only continue to get better.

trying to decide how to go about the remake. like I want to keep all my asks and threads, but I don't think that's feasible. :/ so I guess I might go through my drafts and asks and delete stuff, copy over the stuff I for sure want to keep ? its just the deciding is the hard part unfortunately. what to keep, what to toss. sigh.
Tumblr media
I am going to preemptively say I'll most likely be 100% starting fresh in terms of plotting; as in, if we were plotting or if we started to plot and didn't finish then that's all getting abandoned so I can focus entirely on creating new stuff. like we can absolutely pick up where we left off, but I'm not going to go into the new blog assuming people want to continue plotting / interacting basically. that also makes me feel better about like. starting fresh and reaching out again, cuz I get anxious about touching base after time has passed tbh.
interactions and relationships are mostly likely gonna remain. again, unless it hasn't been explicitly discussed / plotted. so I have room to come in and be like hey I want to pursue that with folks again without having anxiety. but unless we have discussed otherwise / I have stated otherwise, all dynamics, relationships, plots, etc are still open and applicable, I'm not starting anything over by default. which is to say, if you want to start over (especially considering both shade and kaey are getting small makeovers / changes) then we absolutely can ! you just have to say so.

YET ANOTHER long and obnoxious stream of my thoughts while watching grey’s anatomy for the first time (season 14 because i’m still hanging on by a thread)
-why did megan hunt have a fresh coat of mascara and some lip gloss on when she got flown in with her gaping abdominal wound LMAO
-teddy!!!!!
-i absolutely think they should tell megan about meredith and riggs and let her make an informed decision on whether she wants meredith to be her surgeon. this is greys anatomy, of course there’s gonna be a conflict of interest. they’re making this more complicated than it needs to be.
-somebody tell me when the show stops being worth watching. so far i’m hanging on bc i’m mildly interested in how jo and alex turn out, i want teddy and amelia to interact, and i’ve warmed up to arizona since she broke up with callie. obvi i love meredith i just don’t know how much more they can do with her before i just want her to take a warm bath and retire to somewhere far far away with her children.
-did amelia relapse offscreen???? wtf is going on???
-okay she has a tumor i guess. sure, okay, whatever. !!!!
-she put a gun in her !!!!!!!!! for a man???
-i don’t love the way they’ve introduced the new intern class. they set it up as if we already know them, whereas i feel like with every other class of interns we’ve gotten eased into it a bit more before we’re just tossed into this unfamiliar dynamic
-okay but wait i do like that in this ep w the roller coaster (and the people who are supposed to be baby cristina, george and izzie) they referenced the old intro. i think the writers knew they needed a little nostalgia to hook people back in at this point. jury is still out whether or not it’s working on me.
-maybe i’m stupid but why in the fuck would they have so many important things dependent on one networked computer system. why on earth would cardiac monitors be hackable?????
-idk about maggie/jackson…. seems too incest adjacent
-the casual gaslighting and manipulation with paul stadler is so well written
-“jackson avery, you are such a disappointment, i thought you were woke!!!”
-genuine question: do they just not do chemistry reads on this show when they cast romantic interests???
-*choked up*”right before she died, she told me i should be more slutty. and i just wish i could call her and tell her how slutty i’m being” i really do love maggie
-maybe i missed it but why does carina have an italian accent but andrew doesn’t?
-i like the development of jo and meredith’s relationship
-i think meredith and this firefighter woman should kiss on the mouth
-i like april better now that she’s kind of a mess
-OOH wait does helm have a little crush on meredith bc i’m kind of obsessed with that
-if there’s one thing greys usually kills it with its casting younger versions of characters for flashbacks
-i miss joe the bartender :(
-oh my god he gives them fake cancer so he can charge them for fake chemo?????? what the fuck
-too much of an emphasis on these lesbian cookies…. suspicious
-okay yeah that makes sense. i love this
-nurse olivia!!
-olivia of course has a right to still be upset but it’s a little weird to assume alex didn’t change at all in the past ten years. not to mention it’s weird to act morally superior about it now when she cheated on george with alex
-“if you wanna rebuild you have to tear it down first” bingo
-did i miss amelia getting her own place or is she taking this girl to meredith’s house??
-okay i guess she’s just moved in with owen again. i need to pay better attention lol but so much keeps happening and it’s a lot of mush to sift through
-“meredith grey is straight” “ever hear her talk about cristina yang?” LMAO
-PREGNANT?

♫ if HOME is where the HEART is, then we're all just fucked ♫
private, selective, && low-activity multimuse; featuring canon muses from animanga, video-games, literature, && more; loved && despised by anja ( she / they ); 21+
drafts: 18 inbox : 0 queue: 0
RULES && ROSTER BELOW
Tumblr media
♫ THE WRITER - i'm 28 years old, && i'm a tumblr veteran; i work part-time at a pet store && have six billion hobbies. i like energy drinks, embroidery, fall out boy && my cat. also i can't stop yapping. this blog is mostly to engage with friends ( old && new ) && to appreciate the stories && characters i love; my activity fluctuates, but i am very much LIVE, LAUGH, LURK && can be reached easily OOC; i'm also happy to hand out my discord to mutuals.
♫ THE BLOG - due to the themes present in the source material, this blog will contain sensitive subject matter, as well as dark && possibly triggering content; i will do my best to tag everything appropriately. regarding certain* characters, i do NOT intend to water down // sugarcoat their morals, nor do i intend to romanticize // glorify any toxic dynamics rooted in canon material. NOTE: MY VIEWS DO NOT REFLECT THE VIEWS OF THE CHARACTER OR THE CREATOR.
♫ WRITING // FORMATTING - i never do starter calls. the real way to my heart ( && my drafts ) is through sending a meme, or crawling into my dms to plot; in theory, i prefer paras/novellas. that being said, i prefer quality over quantity, && don't expect anyone to pull their hair out trying to match my freak. i stick to formatted small text && no longer use icons out of personal preference; how you format on your end is entirely up to you. my only request is that threads are trimmed.
♫ ACTIVITY - as mentioned above, this blog is pretty low-activity. in between work, errands, && other obligations, i tend to put my drafts on the back burner; when i do write, i want to deliver something that i can be proud of && that can take time; sometimes i get sporadic bursts for a particular muse && i don't want that to be misconstrued as favouritism/ignoring older threads. i just write whoever refuses to shut up at the time.
♫ ETIQUETTE - standard rules apply: no godmodding, don't force ship, respect me OOC, etc. also it's the year of our lord && saviour jesus christ && i shouldn't even have to say this but racism, homophobia, transphobia, zionism, proshipping, etc. are all big nonos, && if i catch a whiff of any of that nonsense, it's an instant hard block.
♫ SHIPPING - generally speaking, i don't like to start threads with pre-established relationships unless they are based on canon material, or are discussed in advance; i prefer to ship with people i know && am comfortable with. despite being much older than 18, i will not be writing/posting explicit nsfw material on this blog. suggestive themes might be present && will be tagged. otherwise, i'm open to moving more ( appropriate ) explicit material to discord with long-term rp partners.
♫ MAINS // EXCLUSIVES // AFFILIATES - i'll admit, i'm still trying to navigate the culture surrounding mains && exclusives. i hate the idea of pushing away fresh interpretations of popular characters, but i adore the idea of weaving intricate lore with another writer that influences my own writing. i suppose what it boils down to is communication. if affiliation is something you want to discuss, let me know.
♫ TRIGGERS - while i don't have any specific triggers per se, it should be mentioned that i am epileptic && would appreciate photosensitive content tagged (tw: epilepsy); if there is something specific you would like tagged, please let me know, && if i do forget, please yell at me to go back && tag it

tldr looking for; heavily literate 18+ long-term rp partner, a lover of fantasy (fae, demons, dragons, chosen ones and dark lords, etc) or open to supernatural historical fiction or dark zombie-centric apocalyptic threads. replies preferably at minimum once a week, and please no ghosting–i am very understanding of real life and burnout so if we need breaks thats okay! discord + pinterest friendly, and must vibe ooc! romance is required, as well as being okay with lgbtq+ characters, dark themes, and nsfw content.

hi friends, i’m 24f she/her, looking for someone similar in age (18+ required, absolutely no minors, preferably 20+) who loves fantasy, monsters, romance, and loooong lengthy replies. i’ve been writing for the past 15+ years with dreams of one day being published, and have been roleplaying for the past 10+ years, though i’ve been on an extended hiatus. i’m recently quit my job (living in EST) so my schedule is pretty open to start writing together! Even though i have a lot of new free time, i do have a partner and responsibilities, and am also aware of burnout, real life, and mental health so never be afraid to pull the breaks for a few days, weeks, or months if we need to but please communicate that. i almost exclusively write medieval high fantasy, but also enjoy historical fiction (absolutely nothing modern ie. 1930's onward) and lately have been into zombie apocalypses as i’m rewatching twd. i only work with originals, ocxoc, but am open to playing with a canon universe as long as we make it our own! i’m mainly looking for mxm and mxf romance since that’s what i have the most experience with, but i am lgbtq+ friendly. i prefer a partner who is open to writing a wide range of characters, not just female ocs or “submissive” types, just to ensure we keep the threads fresh for both of us. i’m more than happy to double and work on multiple threads as well. i like a heavy emphasis on troubled characters with real flaws, trauma, and their subsequent development, exploring interesting relationship dynamics both healthy and toxic, and extensive worldbuilding + magic systems. customized discord servers, fanart, headcanons, drawn maps of our worlds, couples playlists, pinterest boards–you name it, i love it and am here for it.
concepts in mind; while i don’t have any set plots, characters, or worlds (i generally enjoy figuring this out organically with my partner) there are some things that i like to write and cliches i love to see. Anything with fae, monsters, demons and witches, interesting takes on vampires + werewolves, i’m here for! i love fairytale retellings and mythology, and playing with religious motifs and inspiration (think paradise lost). themes of rebellion, war-torn kingdoms, corrupt monarchies, prophecies, racing against the clock to defeat eldritch world-ending monsters, dark overlords, magic always has a price, everyone is living on borrowed time just to name a few. when it comes to romance tropes, you can never go wrong with enemies to lovers, soulmates, forbidden romance, arranged/forced marriage, hidden identity, the hero falls for the villain. i foam at the mouth for soft ocs that snap and go feral, not a god’s chosen but a god’s cursed, the found family out of a band of ragtag misfits, complex villains who are actual people, i could literally go on for hours.
other tidbits; i don’t write canon characters or with fandoms, but i do enjoy my fair share of shows, books, and video games! i'm open to taking inspiration from any of them, so i’ll list a few if it helps give a better idea of what i’m into and possible interests we might share–
shows/movies: game of thrones + house of the dragon, outlander, the walking dead, pride and prejudice, stranger things, lotr, twilight
books: a court of thorns and roses + throne of glass, six of crows + shadow and bone, the night circus, and many more
games: animal crossing, legend of zelda, the sims, dragon age, stardew valley, the last of us
contact; if you are interested in any of this, like this post and i'll message you or comment with your discord username and i'll add you
Like this post and the asker will reach out!

Oh gods, the new year's just starting and you're already cooking? And it's MORE ANGST?! You scare me, Aphe..../j/lh
On a more genuine note, I find that concept quite interesting. And since they'd be a Yaksha, imagine what they're relationship/dynamic with Xiao have the potential, one other member of their, living, but with the enemy 🤔
OOOOH! What if they (Yaksha!Reader) blame ol' Rexxy boy for the destruction of their race? Like, they feel he didn't try hard enough to save the Yaksha's from their Karmic Debt? Or something like that?
Also, damn you sure have a thing for found family harbingers, don't you XD?/lh
-🐉Anon
going into my evil and horrible villain arc this year 😈😈😈 /hj /lh
NO YEAH I WAS THINKING ABOUT THAT SO HARD. i like to think that they're among the oldest living beings on teyvat--probably somewhere between 4000-5000. they've lived a very long time (and are tragically, chronically plagued by erosion and karmic debt) and i like to imagine them as older than xiao, because perhaps they had some kind of sibling dynamic with him (and ofc with the other yakshas my beloveds 🫶🫶🫶🫶). it makes it all the more devastating. i've been thinking about whether morax's perceived betrayal should happen before all the yakshas gradually succumb to their fates (because this would make it so that [name] finds out through word of mouth that all of their siblings have died off one by one until only xiao was left; and, further, how the hell are they supposed to know he's even still alive, since they rarely dare to set foot in liyue? maybe they also try to investigate bosacius' case and encounter xiao in the chasm.... hmm), or after? both routes have their own appeal.
(elaborating on the chasm concept: it would be so devastating, i think. because after so long they have finally been reunited with one of their own... but now they sit on opposing sides of the same war. not opposite sides, no; the enemy is the same. rather, they sit on opposing sides. the goal is ultimately the same--that being ridding teyvat of the heavenly principles--and while the seven do largely seem to support the tsaritsa's goal, her methods are foul. so, despite being reunited with one of their own, their brother, the reunion is far from gentle. because xiao is on morax's side [much to their disdain, because they feel betrayed by rex lapis and the wound is still fresh, despite this having happened thousands of years prior] and they are on the tsaritsa's.)
and i've been debating what might warrant a "perceived betrayal" on morax's behalf, but that would make a lot of sense i think.... i think that would contribute to it. perhaps its that in combination with guizhong's death--he did not try hard enough to save her. and maybe, just maybe, this was just meant to be their fate. yakshas are prone to losing their minds. maybe [name] is holding on by a thread at this point.
it's bittersweet, because even as they slowly die over thousands of years, zhongli can't help but think fondly of them. i mean, look at them. they are still fighting for the world, even if their ways have become jaded and twisted. he only wishes they would come home. how well can the tsaritsa treat their karmic debt? he doesn't know how long her methods will work.
also don't call me out like that bro 🙏🙏🙏 the fatui harbinger found family worms its way into my fics one way or another. Sighhhhhh

Ask game tagged by @suspiciouspopsicle
rules: How much do these tropes affect your decision to click on a fic? -10 -> very dissuaded  0 - don’t care either way  +10 -> very enticed  nope -> if it’s a hard no and you’d never click on a fic with that tag or or you even have the tag blocked or you’d insta click out of the fic if it wasn’t tagged.  Bonus points for explaining the rating and whether it’s conditional.
Age gap: 0
I don't care. If its tagged the fic is probably doing something with the age gap and exploration of that dynamic can be fine. The number would go up if accompanied by other interesting tags.
Codependency: +5
People will go way beyond normal and sane when you start with a premise where they are already halfway to crazytown. When the fire hits the powder keg its gonna be good.
Obsession/Possessiveness, jealousy: +6
This one can have similar feels to be previous, where emotions start out high but this time its possibly one sided. Is the other side prey being hunted, a glorified god caged on a pedestal, or a shrieking wildcat biting itself and anything around it to escape a snare it once walked into willingly? :3c
Opposites (grumpy/sunshine etc): +3
This can be something of a crutch that writers less in tune with the characters internality will use to patch over the lack of depth. Sure he is happy sunshine but what else is he bringing to the table? And selflessness has been done so not just that. And sure this guy is somber but it he reserved due to upbringing, class, inability to communicate? Is he communicating with the sunshine one because he feels safe with them, they share social status, spicy brainedness compatibility? So its a -2 if only step one is done, but up to a 3 if used well.
Enemies to lovers, Enemies with benefits: +10
Shout out to all you allos out there, experiencing sexual attraction to someone everything else in you rejects. Couldn't be me.
My point of reference for this is Erik and Charles of x men fame. I am so sold on their differences being irreconcilable while the respect and love between them is so apparent. This trope can be brilliant because it can only work if both characters have solid motivations, so solid not even love is enough to shake it; that almost magic force of narrative inevitability. But wait, there's more! What if there isn't love? What if they hate eachother, hurt eachother with every touch? Clawing, primal fucking as another battle.
Friends with benefits: +4
Generally this is a tag for side pairing, gen fic, ships that are going to breakup for the main pairings, or the main pairing before the reason for them to get romancy with it arrives. Its alright.
Sex to feelings: +2
This one can pair nicely with the previous trope. So you thought this was casual, no strings? Reverse Uno fool! Now how do you navigate your existing boundaries, keep your cards close to your chest, come to terms with why your needs have changed while all still in the middle of it? The tropes a bit hard to pull off in new ways so I wouldn't say I go out of my way for it.
Fake dating/relationship: +4
This needs a good set up, a thread of ingenuity to keep things fresh, and some plot to get my attention. Why is the relationship fake? When does it become real? How are expectations communicated and revived? The entire story can't rest of will they or wont they alone.
Friends to lovers: 0
Well its one of the three options right? They don't know eachother and meet, they do know eachother acquaintances, or they are enemies/friends. So I guess saying I like one over the other is way too limiting.
Found Family: +5
Its nice to see the world expand beyond just the romance story. Your guys should have friends and have deep relationships with them. Each one should enhance the story and reveal a unique facet of the world.
Hurt/Comfort: +10
If I see the H lacking the C, I am liable to click away. I get some people like hopelessness, despair, unwinnable defeat just I am not able to shake those feelings off when the fic ends. Ahem anyway about the trope that is here! I can wade through a swamp of sadness if I know there's a lighted window come the end. This feels like a closer, more personal story, where the camera doesn't turn away after the credits roll. What consequences come about from surviving? And then the answer is love.
Love Triangle: +6
Does everyone involved actually have a reason to be here besides 1. the plot said so and 2. person hot? If yes you may proceed. I think scum villain handles this one very well! Liu Qingge loves Shen QQ because he saved his life and was kind, Yue Qingyuan loves Shen QQ because he has never had a time in his life he didn't love him, Luo Binghe loves Shen QQ because he chose him and loved him first. The conflict between these people isn't a bare bones "I want him" but genuine belief that the other suitors are not good for him because of the plot. (Well, Yue Qingyuan and Liu Qingge could work it out).
Poly, open relationships: +8
For the love of sausages, can people just agree to non monogamy when its an obvious solution? The one partner for all doesn't even fit in the real world much less in one made to throw these people at eachother. Do something rad with it.
Mistaken/hidden identity: +9
There is yet a trace of the true self within the false self. Another part of a character can be shown when they put aside who they think they are and should be. Who is in or isn't in the know? This can be so plotty and charactery!~
Monsterfucking: +3
Forgive me, I want to love this more then I do. I certainly don't mind it and the metaphor made tangible for alienation, otherness, spoopyness can really work. But I don't go "Oooo this has tentacles yes yes". The monsterness needs to serve a purpose in the story.
Pregnancy: +5
Its certainly a topic that is in the real world and can use some exploration in fiction. Who can and can't carry, who can and can't raise the resulting children, social expectations couched in terms of biological inevitability. I've seen some omegaverse fics that rock my world with how they turn the everyday alien with just a few twists and turns.
Second Chance: +10
This goes very well with a tragedy. Was it always going to be this way, with blood on your hands and at your feet? Or could you really have found a differnt way if only you knew then what you knew now? Who, what, are you really when set free from what bound you? Characters that come to mind are Kenshin of same anime name fame, Jin Guangyao or Lan Xichen of mdzs (wherein, notably, evil necromancer Yiling Laozu gets his second chance), Kim Dokja and co of Omniscient Reader, and pretty much the standard OS of all isekai and time travel fics.
Slowburn: +6
I love a good slowburn. The romance has time to establish that this is about who these two (or more) people are, rather then a hollywood 'this movie needs romance so kiss so they know who the leads are". Show me the gaps that these people coming together will fill, or the flaws they will bring out in eachother, or how the plot needs them both, not just one while the other is agencyless.
Soulmates: +8
I saw this done very well by esama with her fic Sun(something or another). As children, Bondmate 1 rejected Bondy 2 which hurt them so badly they devoted their life to destroying everything bondmate 1 had or cared for and you felt he was right for doing so. Like, yeah, yeah, thats got meat on it tell me more. It also explored other worst case bond scenarios, like what if your bond gets turned undead, or is in a coma? Then there is the 'au' type soulbond fic where because there is this magical fate, how does canon change? How does society change? There are so many ways to do it to, opt in or opt out, spoken, art, written, red or color threads. This trope leads to plot.
Whooowh that was a lot. Ok lets have @blondejaneblonde @lacertae-dreamscape @three--rings AND @leatherbookmark take this one on :D

Gias Blogs: One Life, Many Stories to Tell
Every life is a tapestry woven from countless moments—joyous and heart-wracking, ordinary and extraordinary. Gia's Blogs is a space where all those threads come together, where each post is an invitation into one more story from a life that’s always unfolding.
Chapter 1: Beginnings in Small Moments I still remember the way sunlight spilled across our kitchen table when I was five, the golden dust motes dancing in the air as my grandmother poured tea. In those first years, everything felt alive: the whisper of afternoon breezes, the way rain tapped patterns on the window, and the hush that settled when a story came on the radio. Even before we learn words, life is telling us a tale.
Lesson: Notice the small details—they’re the prologue to our larger stories.
Chapter 2: The Schoolyard of Dreams Adolescence is a chaotic chapter, full of loud laughter, scraped knees, homework panic—and the first flutter of a dream. I spent lunch periods sketching characters in the margins of notebooks and stayed up late reading tales of far-off lands. It was in those doodles and dog-eared pages that I first sensed the power of narrative—to transport, to heal, to inspire.
Chapter 3: Turning Points and Tough Lessons My early twenties were marked by ambition and… spectacular missteps. I threw myself into entrepreneurial ventures without fully understanding the human side: team dynamics, client relationships, and my own limits. When a project I poured my heart into collapsed, it felt like the end of the world. Instead, it became a turning point. I learned to listen, to ask for help, and to view failure not as a verdict but as feedback.
Lesson: Failure is ruthless—but it’s also a master teacher
Chapter 4: Journeys that Shape the Soul Travel has a way of reframing our personal narratives. I’ve hiked misty mountain trails in Bhutan, volunteered with children on the Vietnamese coast, and sipped coffee in bustling cafés of Buenos Aires. Each place taught me something new: resilience in remote villages, the kindness of strangers in busy marketplaces, and the beauty of slowing down. Those experiences didn’t just fill photo albums—they rewrote parts of who I am.
Lesson: Stepping outside your routine invites fresh perspectives into your story.
Chapter 5: The Stories We Hold Close Some tales we carry silently—first heartbreaks, whispered confidences, moments of pure awe. Others we share openly: blog posts, candid photographs, and voice notes to loved ones. At Gia's Blogs, I’ll bring you both kinds. Whether it’s the thrill of a last-minute travel adventure or the quiet solace of an evening spent reading by candlelight, every story matters.
Chapter 6: Your Story Matters, Too Life isn’t a solo performance—it’s a chorus of voices. If something in my story resonates with you, I hope you’ll share your own moments in the comments. Tell me about the time you found courage in an unlikely place or about a small ritual that brightens your mornings. Let’s build a community where our diverse experiences illuminate the universal threads that bind us.
Join the Conversation: Drop a story, a question, or a prompt below.
Subscribe: Get monthly essays, writing prompts, and guest narratives delivered straight to your inbox.
Epilogue: Writing the Next Page Every sunrise brings a blank page. What will today’s entry say? As I write this blog, I’m reminded that the stories we tell shape how we see ourselves—and how the world sees us. So let’s keep writing, reading, and discovering together. Here’s to one life, many stories, and the endless adventure of sharing them.

Icons of Global Music: Bridging Cultures Through Sound
Music is a universal language that connects people across cultures, languages, and borders. Over the years, certain artists have emerged as icons, not just for their talent but for their ability to blend diverse influences, creating sounds that resonate universally. Whether drawing from deep cultural roots or experimenting with new-age genres, these artists have shaped the global music scene in unique ways. Today, we explore the journeys of five influential figures who have left indelible marks on the industry, showcasing how they’ve bridged cultural divides and united fans around the world.
Chi Cheng, the legendary bassist of Deftones, stands as a powerful symbol of resilience and artistic brilliance.
