have you seen the new show those about to die? is there any degree of accuracy to it or is it just silly murdercamp fun

I’m waiting until November to watch it so I can do Gladiator II and Those About To Die at the same time. I also don’t watch historical drama for historical accuracy, historical fact isnt even the main thing I judge a show for. it’s maybe the fourth or fifth thing I think about.

#Im not a historian etc etc if you want a judgement on historical accuracy you should probably ask a historian who focuses on gladiators #during imperial rome #I care more about thematic intent and entertainment. i only drag historical fact into this when the story fucking sucks #the only thing i want out of gladiatorial media is some kind of awareness of intersections of power and spectacle at play with the body #like no one is ever going to be starz spartacus with understanding the gladiatorial body so the bar to clear for me #to enjoy it is low. so low.#like pompeii (2014) fucking sucked.
