The risk it took to blossom (Part 2)
Pairing : Sarawat / Tine (2gether the series)
Summary : Five times someone talked Tine through his self-doubt and helped him see his worth, and the one time he didn’t need them to. Chapter : 2/6
Previous chapters : 1 /
Next chapters : 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 Notes : Second installment in the series about Tine being insecure, and everyone loving him like he deserves in response. Don’t hesitate to share your thoughts, if you feel like it :)
-----------
“So, Gun broke his wrist,” announces Sarawat casually, while him and Tine are walking through campus, making their way to the music club for the impromptu meeting they were all called for.
At those words, Tine stops in his tracks and puts a hand on Sarawat’s elbow to stop him from walking further ahead of him.
“Wait, Gun as in the second guitarist in CTRL S ?” he asks, his voice going higher with shock.
“Hmm,” confirms Sarawat, seemingly non-pulsed.
“But… Don’t you guys have your next concert coming in two weeks ?” Tine asks, trying to remember the date Sarawat wrote down on the calendar in his room, when he wanted to make sure that Tine would be there for every one of his concerts. As if Tine would ever miss one anymore.”
“Hmm,” Sarawat repeats, and Tine doesn’t understand how he can be this calm about this.
“Oh my god ! What are you guys going to do ? There is no way his wrist will be healed by then, will it?” he asks, and Sarawat simply shakes his head, confirming Tine’s suspicion that it was unlikely to be the case. “Oh god, this is bad. L Co Hol will be so mad if you have to cancel the concert now. Can you play the songs with just one guitarist ? No, that will sound weird. Wat, seriously. Why aren’t you freaking out about this ?” he finally asks exasperatedly, turning towards his boyfriend.
“I think you’re freaking out enough for the two of us Tua Woon Wai,” Sarawat answers, a fond smile on his lips, before he pushes forward and pressed a quick peck to Tine’s cheek. “It’s sweet though, that you’re this worried about me.”
Tine feels his cheek flush, and he smacks his boyfriend against the chest with the back of his hand.
“Who’s worried about you ? I’m just worried about the entire band and about what this will do to the club. This is the band that is supposed to represent us,” he explains, justifying why him freaking out right now is a totally normal reaction. Unlike the reaction his boyfriend is having.
“Sure,” says Sarawat with a knowing smirk.
Tine sighs, before he starts walking towards the club again, Sarawat following suit.
“We’re going to search for someone to replace him for the next couple of concerts actually,” Sarawat finally explains after a few seconds.
“Ah, okay. That’s good,” Tine responds, figuring that this is why Sarawat isn’t freaking out about the ordeal. “Learning all of the songs in two weeks is going to be difficult, but I’m sure you’ll find someone who is able to. Maybe P’Air would agree to do it ? I know this is supposed to be mainly newer members of the club, but seeing as she’s one of the best and this is an emerg…”
“Actually, I think you should do it,” Sarawat interrupts him suddenly, cutting Tine off mid-sentence.
“I’m sorry, what did you say ?” Tine asks, yet again stopping dead in his tracks at his boyfriend’s announcement.
“I think you should replace Gun,” he repeats, looking at Tine intently, while sporting a serene smile.
“Are you out of your mind ? I can’t be part of the band !” Tine exclaims, looking at Sarawat in shock.
Was he joking ? There is no way Sarawat is actually implying that Tine could actually do this, he thinks, panicking.
“Why couldn’t you ?” Sarawat asks calmly, turning fully towards Tine to face him properly.
“There’s no way I’m good enough ! I don’t know how to play properly yet, and there’s no way I’m anywhere close to your level,” Tine responds, trying to make Sarawat see how ridiculous the mere idea is.
“What are you talking about Tine ? Of course you’re not as good as me yet, I’ve been playing since I was 7. I would frankly be a little offended if you had already reached my level,” Sarawat says with a small laugh. “But Tine, you’ve been a member of the club for months now and you’ve practiced so much. You can play, and of course you’re good enough.”
“There is no way I would be able to memorize all of the songs in two weeks and work well with the band,” Tine adds, still not quite believing that Sarawat can be serious with this proposition.
“Come on Tine, don’t even pretend,” Sarawat says with a scuff. “How do you think I got the idea in the first place ? You’ve come to so many different band rehearsals with me, we already know you mesh well with the band. Plus, you always play the second guitarist’s part when you’re helping me rehearse. You know those songs already, you play them all the time.”
“Yes, at home, when it’s just you and me !” Tine exclaims, and he blushes at the way Sarawat’s face melts into the softest smile he’s seen from him in a while at the word ‘home’. One thing at a time, he’ll freak out about what he just said later. “There’s no way I can actually do it on stage. Plus, the people aren’t coming to see me.”
“The people will be coming to see CTRL S play some good music, and I truly believe that we can play some good music with you,” Sarawat says seriously, before he reaches forward and takes Tine’s hands in his.
“I just.... I don’t want you to waste your time teaching me when it could all be for nothing,” whispers Tine.
“God Tine, spending time with you could never be a waste of time,” says Sarawat, his voice cracking a little, before he leans forward to rest his forehead on Tine’s, their noses brushing gently.
“Look Tine, if you don’t want to do it because you don’t want to perform on stage, then that is completely up to you. It’s not for everyone, and I would completely understand,” he says in a gentle voice. “If you don’t want to do it because you think you’re not good enough though, I’m telling you now that’s just not true. I know you can do it, and that you would be amazing up there with us,” he finishes, squeezing Tine’s hand in his.
Tine takes a while to get his emotions under control, leaving his forehead resting on Sarawat’s to shield him from the feeling of the rest of the world looking down on them, while he tries to hold back the tears of vulnerability he can feel pooling in his eyes.
After a few moments to compose himself, he pulls back from Sarawat and sees the love shine in his boyfriend’s eyes. God, the utter faith Sarawat has in him is breathtaking sometimes.
“Well you have to say that, you’re my boyfriend,” he finally answers, aiming to lighten the mood a little after how heavy it just got because of him.
“Oh yeah, because we both know that that’s prevented me from telling you things the way they really are in the past,” he claims with a smirk.
And, well… He’s not wrong, Tine thinks, recalling the enormous amount of joy Sarawat still seems to get whenever he gets to repeat “Wrong” over and over again when Tine messes up one chord. Even if he does have to admit it happens less and less often.
“Sarcastic much ?” Tine asks, and Sarawat just laughs in answer, before he seems to become more serious.
“Look, I’m not saying that because I’m your boyfriend, Tine. The boyfriend in me is thinking that you, up there on that stage ? That would be super hot. The musician in me though, is just thinking that is the best solution for the band, and that we’d make amazing music together.”
At those words, Tine feels his throat tighten and he squeezes Sarawat’s hands where they are still clutched in his, not knowing how to express his emotions otherwise.
“I’ll think about it,” Tine finally murmurs softly.
“That’s all I ask,” answers Sarawat, before he lets go of one of Tine’s hands, keeping the other one tight in his and pulling Tine with it so that they can continue walking towards the music club.
Once they reach the room, they make their way inside and sit quietly on the floor, waiting for the meeting to start. Both boys are quiet, Tine still deep in thought about what Sarawat just asked him to do, and his boyfriend obviously understanding that he needs time to process.
P’Dim and P’Air enter the room a few minutes after their arrival, and Tine lifts his head to look around, noticing that the room has filled in with almost all of the other club members while he was lost in thought.
“Hello everyone, thank you for all coming on such short notice,” P’Dim greets them, and P’Air just waves and smiles at the people in the room. “As some of you may already know, Gun broke his wrist and therefore won’t be able to perform for at least the next two concerts that CTRL S were supposed to give, maybe more.”
At the announcement, whispering starts up from everywhere in the room, many club members obviously as worried about this turn of event as Tine had been.
“Because of the importance of this band for our club’s reputation and to collect funds, we’ve decided that we would replace Gun for the time being. And because it’s short notice, we won’t have time to ask you all to audition so Air and I just picked the person we thought would be the best fit. And trust me, I never thought I would actually say this,” P’Dim continues to explain while he shakes his head in disbelief.
“But Tine, based on your skills today and the knowledge you already have of the songs, we think you’d be the best fit. So please, come and see me after the meeting so we can talk about all the details. As for the rest of you, I really appreciate your understanding, and I hope we’ll all be there to support the band in two weeks for their next concert ! Plus, their concert will also be followed by an exclusive premiere of Sunshine, Daisies and Butter Mellow’s new song, so you won’t want to miss it !”
Silence reigns in the room at P’Dim’s latest announcement, and Sarawat starts clapping, not caring one bit that he is alone in doing so. Tine rolls his eyes at his boyfriend. He knows him well enough to know that he is mainly clapping because he knows it’ll annoy P’Dim even more than the lack of reaction to his announcement.
“Did you do this ?” Tine asks Sarawat when people around them start getting up to leave, squinting his eyes towards him suspiciously.
“Actually, I haven’t had the time to talk about my idea with P’Dim and P’Air yet. So that was all you Tua Woon Wai,” Sarawat answers with a proud smile. “And unless he’s your boyfriend too and there is something you’ve been meaning to tell me... You know it means you’re actually the best one for this job.”
Tine swallows, trying to get over his nervousness.
“Look if you truly don’t want to do it, we can go and tell him that now…” Sarawat whispers to him, putting a hand on his knee to reassure him.
Tine takes a deep breath and turns towards him, before shaking his head, silently answering Sarawat’s question.
“Then I guess, welcome to the band, little albino buffalo,” he responds with a huge smile.

a sarawat x tine drabble. part 1
Tine saw that something had changed in Sarawat’s eyes after he had come back from talking to Pear. Even though he couldn‘t quite place the emotion, he knew something was wrong and being the curious man that he was, he asked Sarawat about it. What he didn‘t expect was for Wat to huff and leave him.
Of course Tine couldn‘t just let it be and ran after his friend. Barely catching him, damn Wat‘s football training, Tine grabbed his arm and effectively stopped Sarawat. Clearly annoyed, the other boy glared at him. “What is it?” he snorted. “I have no idea what just happened but something is clearly wrong with you. What happened? Did your fans annoy you again or did you realize you forgot to do an assignment on time?” God, Sarawat was boiling internally, why was Tine so dense?
Before he could stop himself, he blurted something out, that had not only Tine freeze on the spot, but also himself. Fuck. Did he really just confess to Tine? With the other boy understanding his intentions?! Oh, good God, please have mercy on me, please let Tine be as unknowing as all the other times before, pleaded Sarawat. ‘No! It‘s because you‘re so obtuse and don‘t even notice that your flirting hurts me because I like you!”
But the gods weren‘t merciful with him today, because Tine‘s mouth was still opened in shock and he pointed from Sarawat and then to himself. “You- You like me?!” As Sarawat had already said too much to turn the situation around, he (hopefully) appeared calm as he decided to reply “Yes. I‘ve liked you for such a long time! And I‘ve told you on so many instinces that I feel more than just friendship for you but you never realized it. You never once took me seriously.”
With Wat‘s emphasis on ‘such a long time‘ Tine seemed to have finally fully absorbed the new information, that caught him oh so off-guard. He would‘ve guessed so many different things – from indigestion to stress with his family or school problems, but not that Sarawat, his friend Sarawat, liked him more than he ever could. Guilt clouded Tine‘s thoughts and Sarawat visibly gulped, when he saw him starting to bite his lips and lower his eyes. Wat knew. He knew that Tine didn‘t think of him in the same way he did but actually seeing Tine confirming his presumptions felt like he was being stabbed in the heart.
“Wat,” Tine softly started talking, finally looking at him again “I‘m so sorry. I always thought that everything you did was for show. I truly didn‘t know. I am deeply sorry. Especially because I can‘t reciprocrate the feelings. Wat, I love you like a friend, like a brother but not as more.” Sarawat felt tears pool in his eyes. He didn‘t want to show this weakness in front of Tine so he tried to swallow all of the sadness and raised his head to look at Tine. What he didn‘t expect was to literally start sobbing when he met Tine‘s incredibly soft and sorry eyes. He saw it in them, his friend was being genuine.
Wat was incredibly angry at himself, why did he have to blurt out the true nature of his feelings in a way that Tine actually took them serious for once? He wanted to slap himself for being so unresponsible. Did he just ruin his only really close friendship with his confession? Did he break their bond? Could they ever go back to being as comfortable as friends as they were before – with Sarawat pining after Tine without him knowing and flirting in front of the school with the reason to protect him from Green?
Sarawat didn’t know how much time had passed since he started crying. What he knew though was that Tine‘s try to calm him down – a few awkward pats on the shoulder – only worsened the situation. He had to get away from him or else he would break, right here in front of the man, who just broke his heart. “Tine. Tine, I need time for myself. Go. I need to go.” he stumbled over the words as tears still flowed from his eyes. Without waiting for Tine to answer, he turned around and ran.
Sarawat didn’t know how he had made it to his dorm wihtout getting into an accident, but he was very thankful for the familarity that waited him in his small apartment. With that also hit the familarity of having Tine with him. Cuddled in his blankets he thought of the many times, that Tine had showed up at his doorstep with the plea of being fed on his lips or him forcing Tine to help clean up his room or Tine with his guitar sitting on Wat’s bed waiting for him to show him how to play a new chord or teaching him to play a Scrubb song. Slowly, Sarawat felt the tears coming to a stop. The pain, however, didn’t subside. It had turned into a dull ache that made it hard to breath for him. He still, somehow, fell asleep that night.
He knew that he should probably call his little brother in the morning. As much as he hated to admit it, but he loved him lots and knew that he would have his back, no matter what – and being one of the few people to know of Sarawat’s real feelings for Tine also played a crucial part in that decision.

I can’t wait for ep 13 because i know wat will redeem himself. i just know it. his love for tine will come through. they will be happy. then we’re gonna look back at this moment and say “remember tht stupid angst of ep 12 and getting mad at wat and crying with tine” and then we’ll just laugh about it because the ending was so worth it....... do u think the same???? sigh i need reassurance i need a happy ending
hiii anon!!! mmmm. i think, what’s gonna go down is ... as soon as tine ran out, i think wat must have told pam either there and then that him and tine are dating, or that he needs to seriously speak to her later about this, and he’ll go after tine.
meanwhile, tine’s gonna be sobbing, and if we go by the novel, he ends up puking up so badly that it’s non stop. he either does that there, or he’ll go to the bathroom. and most likely that’s where mil will see him and, again, according to the novel, mil will wanna take him to the hospital, at which point wat will intervene and say that he is boyfriend and he’ll take him, which is were that missing scene will happen where mil says “oh why are you here now where were you when your boyfriend needed you?”
anyway. tine’ll get hospitalised, he’ll wake up, wat will be there and say what he says in the preview that there’s nothing going on between him and pam. tine will get discharged the next morning, and wat will just assume they’re both ready to go home, only i think tine will refuse and say he doesn’t wanna hear anymore and he’ll go back with his friends to his own room where he used to live before.
and then mil and wat will speak, like we saw in the preview, and tine and his friends will speak, and tine will take off his bracelet, wat will come to tine’s to collect tine’s guitar and wat will most likely see that tine isn’t wearing his bracelet.
then i think the music contest will happen, and wat will sing his song to tine. around that time, before or after it, pam and tine will speak. and then i do think we’ll get some proper tine and wat scenes ... beyond just a reunion, but proper scenes of them 2 as an established couple together. i hope we do anyway! plus we still have that scene left where tine is wearing a denim jacket with bracelet on to see yet, where wat says to him “play chord c” and tine plays it wrong and wat’s like “you’re not even holding the guitar properly”! so idk when that’ll happen, but yeah .. we still have that scene!
idk i’m optimistic about ep 13? despite how miserable i felt with ep 12. i trust them, and i know they can turn it around. i thought ep 8 was horrific, and then they completely turned it around with ep 9! so ... i have faith!
