I asked for recommendations for Xenofiction animated films to add to my letterboxed list on the subject and someone suggested Shrek. I can’t stop thinking about this…
#film#Xenofiction#Shrek#like on the one hand they were probably just making a haha funny Shrek meme or whatever#…on the other hand#you could make some case for Shrek bring Xenofiction based on my definition I laid out in#I defined Xenofiction as a story where the fact the mc is non-human#and their unique perspective as someone outside the human experience#plays a significant role in the chracter development story and world building etc#and if the mc can be replaced with humans or superpowerd humans and the story remains unchanged#then it’s not Xenofiction#with this specific definition in mind#Shrek could in theory count as Xenofiction#his unique perspective as an ogre plays an integral role in not only his personality and chracter development#but also the world building and how the rest of fairytale society treats him#also he’s very literally turned into a human in the 2nd movie and it shakes things up in the plot significantly#of course there are pretty significant flaws in this argument#Shrek is too humanoid/anthropomorphic#so placing Shrek in the same category as Watership down or childeren of time would be rather absurd#if you wanted you could place him in the category of humanoid Xenofiction like lotr if you wanted to be generous#but that’s about it#but i dont know what do you guys think?
