i’m screaming, if you’re betaing something for someone else, you don’t completely change every sentence to suit your writing style, you help the author’s writing be the best it can be without overwriting their hard work with what you think they should put instead

#june speaks #i'm probably guilty of this sometimes but i try hard to avoid it #and if i do change things then i explain why i think it should be changed and let them choose for themselves #not only is it really discouraging to see a whole doc filled with suggestions changing every aspect of your sentences #but it also doesn't let the author learn and develop their own style #like obviously editing grammar is one thing especially since we're writing for a competition where we're judged on such things but like you #don't have to change every little thing. like maybe you don't particularly like the way they structured that sentence but let it go #it's the author's opinion that matters most in the end. it's their story not yours #did none of you watch that episode of mlp where rarity makes them dresses for the grand galloping gala smh
