Ocean Eyes
Final part
part one, part two, part three, part four, part five
Summary: You love him, but he loves her.
Warnings: heartbreak?¿
**********************************************
You ran. You ran for what felt like hours, yet was only minutes. You could feel your legs slowly giving out. The sound of your heavy breathing was all you could hear. You felt your heart thump repeatedly against your chest. You felt the tears fall from your eyes, onto the floor. You could see the lights from the house leave your side vision. You stopped, to catch your breath. The sweat formed on your forehead was slowly dripping down the side of your face. You let out heavy breaths. You felt your chest tighten. Your throat was burning. You heard him call out your name from behind you.
“Y/N.” Harrison caught up, his face red from all the running.
He held out a hand towards you, you turned away from him, not wanting him to see you slowly break.
“It has to be a mistake.” His voice cracks.
You shook your head, the tears falling from your cheeks, towards the floor. “It’s not a mistake.” You turned towards him, noticing the hurt look on Harrison’s face.
“They’re getting married.” You let out a sob.
Harrison reacted quickly. He pulled you into him, letting you bury your face in his chest while you cried. He held you tightly, letting you fall apart once again. The act was all too familiar.
~~~
The wedding invitation laid on side table. The pink and white cursive lettering haunted you. You let out a breath you had been holding. You tightened your grip around the blanket Harrison threw over your shoulders. Harrison had brought you inside again, warming you up some tea to calm your nerves. Once you had opened up the fancy invitation, that was left on your doorstep your breath caught in your throat and you ran. You ran out the door into the street ignoring Harrison's calls. You thought maybe you could run away from your problems, literally.
It’s been a month since you’ve broken up with Tom. It’s been a month since you left him with your heart. And it’s been a month since you’ve actually seen him. He’s been trying to call you, he’s been trying to speak with you but you always ignored him. His constant voicemails haunted you every night. You wanted to listen to them, you wanted to call back, but you knew you couldn't. He was going a father, you couldn’t take away a child’s father. You didn’t want to. You knew Tom was going to be a great father. You couldn’t come between a family.
“He’s been trying to reach you.” Harrison said, breaking you from your thoughts. He handed you a cup a tea, before sitting beside you.
“I know.” You brought the cup to your lips, sipping on the warm tea.
“He doesn’t love her you know. He’s only doing this because he thinks it’s the right thing to do.” Harrison pressed his lips together.
You tensed up, setting the cup down onto the table, letting the warmth of the tea linger in your mouth. You placed your hands on your lap.
You looked at him with your tear filled eyes. “Do you think it’s the right thing to do?” You asked.
Harrison paused for a moment. He ran his hand threw his hair and let out a sigh. “No.” He said softly.
A tear fell from your eye, you quickly wiped it away with your sleeve. “Why?” Your voice cracked.
You question had a double meaning. You wanted to know why he thought it was a mistake, but you also wanted to know why it all had to happen. Why did you fall for Tom? Why did she have to ruin what you two had? Why did it all hurt so fucking much? Harrison only had one answer for all your questions.
He looked at you sympathetically. He grabbed you hand in his, giving it a squeeze. “You guys love each other, your meant to be with him. This is just a bump in the road and it sucks and I know both of you are hurting but your gonna get thru this, I know you will.” He places a hand on your cheek, wiping your tears with his thumb.
You lean into his hand, shutting your eyes. You let out a shaky breath. “I don’t know if we can get through this Harrison.” You say, almost like a whisper.
You broke down again, letting yourself fall onto Harrison’s chest. He wrapped his arms around you, pulling you closer. You let the tears fall, and the sounds of your sobs filled the room. Harrison could feel his heart breaking for you, he couldn’t stand to see his two best friends fall apart. He wanted you both to be happy, with each other.
~~~
Harrison had a plan when he left your house that night. He had a plan to get you too back together. It all seemed too cliche, the whole locking your friends in a room until they make up, but Harrison felt it was what you guys needed at the moment. You guys needed to see each other, to feel one another, to understand each other’s feelings. Harrison wasn’t gonna quit until you guys worked everything out.
The next day he set out towards Tom’s house. He watched to try to convince Tom to go see you. Lately she had been staying over at Tom’s house, getting everything ready for the baby. Tom had been panicking all month about the baby’s arrival. He set up a nursery filled with spiderman plushies and avenger posters hanging on the walls. Tom was sure that the baby would love it when it came, because I mean who wouldn't love superheros? Tom kept himself distracted with baby things, trying to focus on that rather than focusing on the love of his life falling apart because of his one mistake. Tom left voicemails for you. Each of the stating how sorry he was and how much he loved you. Each voicemail was ignored, but that didn’t stop him from trying to get you back.
Harrison walked into his house expecting to see chaos, but instead he was met with silence.
“Tom?” He called out, waiting for a response.
“In here.” He heard Tom’s muffled voice. He followed the sound towards the nursery.
Tom was sat on the floor, legs crossed with baby clothes laid out in front of him. Harrison leaned on the doorframe, his arms crossed, observing the scene in front of him.
“What are you doing?” He asked.
Tom’s eyebrows furrowed, his face holding confusion. “Why are they so small?” He observed the tiny baby clothes in front of him. Each of them holding a phrase such as “Daddies favorite” or “Mommies little devil”.
Harrison raised his eyebrows, a smirk painted on his face. “Because they’re baby clothes mate.” He chuckled.
Tom turns towards Harrison, his face still holding confusion. “Yeah, but it’s just so tiny.” He says in disbelief.
Harrison observes Tom’s state. His eyes are dull, the light in his eyes have faded. His bags were dark and he looked like he hasn’t slept in months. His hair was constantly thrown in a bunch of directions. He wore a white shirt with food stains on it and his grey sweats hung loosely on his hips. He looked like absolute shit.
“How’ve you been?” Harrison’s face softens. This was the first time he’s seen him in a couple weeks.
Tom sighs and runs a hand thru his messy hair. “I’ve been better.” He says. Silence falls over the two.
Harrison walks over, seating the same was as Tom in front of him. “I saw the invitation.” He breaks the silence.
Tom’s breath catches in is throat, he looked at Harrison with his dull eyes. “Did she see it?” His voice is hoarse.
Harrison nods slowly. Tom releases a breath, his eyes start to fill up with water. “How is she?” He asks, a tear falling from his eye, he lets it roll down his cheek.
Harrison looks down at his hands. “She’s trying to deal with it, but it’s breaking her Tom.” He confesses.
Tom sniffs, wiping the tears with his hand. “I didn’t mean for this to happen.” He shakes his head.
Harrison sighs, looking up. “Why are you marrying her Tom? You and I both know that’s not what you want.” Harrison pleads with his eyes for an answer.
“It’s the right thing to do.” Tom bites down on his bottom lip.
Harrison shakes his head, letting out a large sigh. “It’s not and you know it.” He says sternly. “The right thing to do is let yourself be happy.” He says desperately trying to get his point across. “You’re happy with Y/N. I’ve never seen you happier, so why are you keeping her apart?”
Tom shook his head violently. “No, I’m not the one keeping her apart, she’s the one who broke it off.” He spat. “She’s the one who left me.” His voice cracks. “She’s the one who gave up on us.”
“Then what are you doing? Why aren’t you over there trying to win her back.” Harrison says, anger dripping from his voice.
Tom scoffed. “Dont you think I've tried? I've bewn trying to reach her since then but she's the one pushing me away."
Harrison shook his head in disbelief. “Don’t you see Tom? She might reject you, she might think she's doing the right thing by letting you go but we all know it’s bullshit.” He angrily said. “She’s in love with you, and she’s been in love with you for years. Don’t give up now.” His face softens. “Don’t give up on something that can be so beautiful.”
Tom let the tears continue to fall. He licked his lips, tasting the salty tears on his tongue. “I'm not the one giving up Harrison. She is. The balls in her court his time."
Harrison looked at Tom, disappointment written across his face. He shook his head. "There's still a chance."
Tom shook his head, the tears falling down his cheeks. "Is there?" He desperately asked.
Harrison didn't answer his question, he felt defeated. He felt like nothing was going right. The two of you were breaking and you weren't doing anything to fix it. With that said, Harrison got up and left. He left a broken and regretful Tom, crying over his mistakes.
~~~
Two months past and the wedding was a week away. Tom was exhausted all the time, he left the life drain out of him. He kept himself busy with the baby. The two parents learned the gender of the baby a few weeks back. It was a girl and Tom couldn’t be more excited about it. There was no doubt in Tom’s mind that he wasn’t gonna be a good dad. He was gonna make sure his little girl had the best life he could give her.
Tom watched as her belly grew throughout the past two months. He was there for her throughout the whole experience. He let her move in and stay in his bed. It wasn’t like she didn’t make Tom happy, she did make him happy. She just wasn’t you. She didn’t make Tom feel loved. She didn’t make Tom feel like how you made him feel. Tom was still in love with you and he knew he was never gonna fall out of love with you. He wished things were different. He wished that you’d come back to him.
The marriage was fake. Tom was only marrying her for his daughter. He wanted his daughter to have both her parents in her life. But the selfish part of Tom wanted everything. He wanted you to be in his life, with his daughter. He wanted you to be apart of his family. He wanted to marry you, not her. But he knew that wasn’t gonna happen.
~~~
For two months your life felt like a nightmare. A constant nightmare that you couldn’t wake up from. You felt numb. Your whole body felt like it was falling apart. You saw the posts on social media of the baby and Tom. Fans reacted the way you expected. They were confused yet happy for Tom.
Tom's parents tried to contact you. You felt bad but you couldn't bare to speak with them about Tom, so you ignored their calls. Harrison tried to hard to get you out. He took you to coffee shops, to book stores, anywhere to get you out and about. It was always a dull time. You looked like crap and you felt even worse.
The wedding was in a week and you knew you weren’t gonna go. How could you sit there and watch the man you love marry someone else.Harrison was Tom’s best man so of course he was going. You planned to sit at home and watch Netflix on your TV, just like you were doing now.
You shoved a spoonful of rice in your mouth from the carton of panda express. You lick your lips. You thought about how the voicemails have stopped and all that was left of Tom was the shirts he left behind that you kept in the back of your closet. You couldn’t stand the lingering smell he left. Everything around your apartment reminded you of him. Your chest ached everyday for the past three months.
You sighed, grabbing your phone from the coffee table. You opened it up, the voicemails showing up right as you typed in your password. Your finger lingered over the first one. You knew if you heard his voice every emotion you tried to push back was gonna come forward.
You took a deep breath, before finally pressing the play button.
You heard silence before Tom's voice took over.
"Hey, um its me. I know you said you didn't wanna be with me but I want you to know that I wanna be with you." You heard a pause before a broken voice took over. "I need you, and I know I fucked up but I need you." You heard a sob release from his mouth.
You closed your eyes, listening to Tom fall apart. "Just please call me back." He finally said, before you heard the beep.
You felt the tears fall from your eyes. You felt like all you ever did was cry. That was all your good for, was crying an ocean. You pressed the next voicemail.
A distressed Tom blasted thru your phones speaker. "Hey, its me again uh I don't know if you got my last message but I just wanna let you know that I'm still here and I still love you." You heard a sigh. "Please just call me back and we can talk." You heard the beep again.
You let out a breath you've been holding before clicking the next one.
"Hey its uh its Tom. I don't know if you spoken to my family recently but I wanted you to hear it from me first." His voice was shaky. You could hear the pain flow thru his voice. "I'm gonna marry her. I think it's the right thing to do." You heard sniffs, you assumed he was crying. "I'm so sorry." He whispered, before you heard another beep again.
You let out a cry, taking a moment to yourself, before clicking another voicemail.
"Hey, I know you're ignoring me right now but Harrison stopped by and said some things." You heard him pause, before speaking again. "I know you don't want me. I know I've made some big mistakes but Harrison thinks we can do this, and I believe him." He let out a chuckle. "I never thought I'd take advice from Harrison, but he was right. I love you and I want this too work." You heard another pause. "I need this to work Y/N. Please call me."
You felt your heart stop. Your name flowing thru his lips made your heart skip a beat. You missed him, and you knew you could never change that.
You clicked the last voicemail. The one labeled twenty minutes ago.
"Hey, its Tom. Harrison told me you weren't coming to the wedding." He let out a breath. "I get it though, I don't blame you for not coming." He sighed. "So I found out the baby's a girl. We're thinking of naming it Avery? But I don't think it sounds right." He chuckled. "Just so you know, I still love you. I still think we could work, its all up to you now. Just please give me an answer before I walk down that damn aile." You heard the last beep before letting out a sob.
You racked your brain for a reason why you kept yourself away from him. At that moment you just couldn't find a good reason. You wanted him. You wanted to be with him. You just wanted one act of selfishness. But a baby was involved. Did you really want to break up a family? Did you really wanna be that girl?
You let out a shaky breath before getting up from the couch. You slid your shoes on, not bothering to change out your sweats and comfortable t-shirt. You got your car keys from the counter before setting out to find him.
You drove over his place. Your nerves grew as you got closer and closer towards his home. You tried to push your nerves down, the thought of you and Tom being together made your heart skip a beat. You hoped it was all worth it. You hoped it wouldn't cause too much conflict. You just wanted to be selfish for once in your life. You wanted to follow your heart this time, not your brain.
As you pulled up at his house you felt like you were gonna throw up. The butterflies in your stomach wouldn’t stop fluttering. You got out of your car, observing the light coming thru the windows of his house. You swallowed harshly, biting down on your bottom lip. You slowly made your way towards his door. You lifted your hand to knock, but you stopped yourself. Should you do this? Is it worth it?
You knocked, answering your own questions. You waited for the door to open, your hands started to shake within each second passing. When the door swung open you expected to see Tom, but instead you saw her.
“Oh, it’s you.” She said surprised. Her baby bump was showing thru her dress and she looked radiant. She made you feel self conscious with are current state.
“Uh sorry I was looking for Tom.” You said, avoiding her strong gaze.
“He’s inside.” She sighs. "Do you wanna come in?" She asked, folding her arms.
"Uh No, that's okay." You shook your head, taking a step back. "Can you just tell him I came to see him?" You asked, hopeful.
She nodded her head hesitantly.
You nodded back, turning away from the door and quickly walking back to your car. You felt your heart drop to your stomach, the disappointment sinking in. You heard the door shut behind you.
~~~
Tom came downstairs a confused look painted on his face.
"Who was at the door?" He asked her.
She shook her head dismissing his curiosity. "It was just some guy trying to sell us things." She lied, walking back into the kitchen.
"Oh." Tom let his tone show his disappointment. He was hoping it was you. But it seemed like you were never coming back to him.
~ The day of the wedding~
They say your wedding day was supposed to be the happiest day of your life. It was the day you were finally going to be with the love of your life forever. The day where two families come together to celebrate love. It wasn't like that for Tom. He felt defeated. He felt heartbroken and sad over you. He wanted you to brust thru the doors and declare your love for him.
"I look like an idiot." Harrison broke Tom from his thoughts.
Tom looked Harrison up and down, laughing at his state. He was all dressed up in a tight suit, his hair gelled to perfection. A weird state to see Harrison in.
“You look so fucking stupid.” Tom laughs.
Harrison rolls his eyes and pulls on his tight suit. “You’re lucky I’m doing this shit.”
Tom scoffs. He walks over towards the large full body mirror, observing the nicely fitted suit. He sighs, fixing his the tie around his neck.
Harrison looks over at Tom, watching the regret flood in his eyes. “Are you sure you’re gonna go through with this?” He asks.
Tom sighs, finished with his tie. He turns towards Harrison, avoiding his gaze. “I tried Harrison, I told her to come, I told her to give us a chance and she ignored it.” His voice sounded dull, like he didn’t want to talk about it. Like he didn’t want it to be real.
“I should call her, maybe I can talk some sense into her.” Harrison desperately suggests.
Tom shook his head, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration. “It doesn’t matter. She doesn’t want me, don’t force her to do anything.”
Tom takes his suit jacket from the chair, throwing it over his shoulder. “I’m gonna go see if my dumbass brothers are ready, and you’re gonna fix whatever is going on with your trousers.” He points towards Harrisons unbelievably uncomfortable pants.
Tom walks out the door leaving a frustrated and uncomfortable Harrison. Harrison holds back a groan as he pulls down, once again, his tight pants. Harrison pulls out his phone deciding to ignore Tom’s pleas and calls Y/N himself. The phone rang twice before you picked up.
“What do you want Harrison.” You say. You sounded bored out of your mind. He assumed you were doing what you always did nowadays, and he was correct.
“It’s your last chance Y/N. The wedding’s gonna start in an hour.” He warned you. He was hoping you would listen to him for once.
You sighed. “Harrison I already tried, he just doesn’t wanna see me.” The disappointment leaked in her tone.
“What do you mean you tried? He hasn't said anything to me about that.” Harrison was confused. If you tried to contact him why didn't he say anything? If you tried, why was he getting married right now?
“I came over to his house Harrison.” You sounded weary, like you were tired of everything. It was like you had given up.
“You went to his house?” Harrisons eyebrows furrowed, he clenched the phone that was held up to his ear. “Did you see him? What did he say?” Harrison questioned frantically.
“I didn't get the chance to see him. The bride to be, was there so I figured it wasn't the best time.” You sighed. You just wanted the painful conversation to end.
“So you didn't talk to him? He probably doesn't know you were even there.” Harrison tried to reason. He was certain if Tom knew he wouldn't be getting married.
“I told her to tell him I came by. I assumed he just didn't wanna see him.” You grew confused. You knew Tom would tell Harrison. Did she tell him you came by? Does he know you came to see him?
“She didn't tell him shit Y/N. He still thinks you don't want him.” Harrison grew angry. He was angry at everyone. He was angry at you for not going sooner. He was angry at Tom for getting her pregnant. He was angry at her for lying to Tom.
“I do want him. I realize now that I need him Harrison.” You sounded desperate. You were desperate for Tom to come back to you. “I realized that I wanna be there for him. I wanna be apart of his life. I wanna be there for his daughter Harrison. I wanna be apart of his family. If he accepts me.” A part of you still had doubts. Will he accept you? Will he let you be apart of his family?
“Then why aren't you here Y/N?” Harrison asks.
You smiled, chuckling to yourself. “Can you stall?”
Harrison smirked. “Hell yes.” He hung up the phone, smiling to himself.
~~~
You hurry up and get ready. And by get ready you mean you threw on jeans and t-shirt while running your fingers through your hair. You had to hurry. Time was wasting away and you had to get there before Tom makes a mistake. You get in your car and quickly take off towards the hotel the wedding was being held at. Lucky for you Harrison had told you where it was being held.
You drove, quickly yet safely towards your destination. You grew nervous again. Your heart dropped to your stomach. You could feel your chest tighten and the sweat begin to form. What if this was a mistake? What if it was all too late?
You tried to bury your nerves down. You pulled up to the hotel, hands shaky and chest on fire. You got out your car, locking it before heading towards the hotel. Your steps were hesitant, you were doubting yourself again. Where you ready for this?
You observed the guests dressed up in fancy dresses and suits, assuming it was all for the wedding. You texted Harrison, asking where he was, before wandering the hotel. You tried looking for the hall, assuming they were all there. You heard your phone ring, the phone flashing Harrisons name. You answered quickly, eagar for an answer.
“Where are you?” You asked frantically.
“We’re in room nine hundred and three, floor four. Please hurry he’s getting anxious.” You heard Harrison sigh over the phone.
“I'm on my way.” You quickly hung up the phone, hurrying towards the elevator.
The ride in the elevator was torture for you. You tried to come up with a speech in your head. You had no clue what you were gonna say to him. How were you gonna face him after all this time? Would he take you back? Would he accept you? You loved Tom. There was no doubt in your head that he was the love of your life. He was your best friend and he always would be.
The elevator dinged, breaking you from your thoughts. The doors opened revealing a stressed and red faced Harrison.
“Hurry and fix the damage.” He said, giving you a small smile.
You stepped out the elevator grabbing Harrison's hands in yours. “Thank you.” You smile before heading towards the rooms.
You looked at each number, your heart racing as you got closer. Once you reached the door you took a deep breath, raising your fist to knock. Before you could the door swung open revealing Tom.
When you saw him, you felt your breath get caught in your throat. He looked good, his hair was gelled and his suit looked clean, and expensive.
Tom felt his heart drop to his stomach. “What are doing here?” He asked but he was scared of the answer.
“I love you too.” You said. You knew you couldn't hold back any longer. You felt the tears pool in your eyes.
Once you said those words, Tom felt like he could breathe again. By saying those three words, you finally reached down and saved him from drowning. You gave him air so that he could live again. Tom felt the tears fall, tears he didn't know showed up. He couldn't help himself any longer. He grabbed your face in his hands, wiping away the fallen tears.
“Are you sure you wanna do this.” He asked.
You smiled, nodding your head slowly. “It's time I be selfish for once.”
Tom didn't waste anymore time. He crashed his lips into yours, taking you all in.
Once your lips touched you felt happiness and bliss grow inside of you. Kissing Tom felt like everything was gonna be okay. You could finally feel his touch and his love through the kiss.
You pulled away, resting your forehead on his.
“I’m sorry I didn't realize it sooner.” You whispered.
Tom ran his thumb over your bottom lip. “I’m just glad you didn't wait any longer. “
Tom crashed his lips against yours once again. Finally letting himself go, finally choosing happiness over what he thought what was right.
