Absolutely not. Fanfic writers can write whatever they want, adaptations don't have to suit your personal tastes, and you all need to learn to close browser windows and delete fics from your device and stop watching shows or movies that you aren't enjoying. Honestly this goes at least double for fanfic writers, because they aren't being paid and don't owe you a damn thing. If they want to do a totally whack AU or if their interpretation is different from yours, it doesn't mean they hate the source, and actually they're absolutely allowed to write fic even if they do hate the source. (I read a frankly excellent rewrite of Twilight that was written largely because the writer knew the books were shit and wanted to do something more interesting with the characters. And you know what? That's allowed.)
This is just turning into purity culture but fandom and no one needs that. No one has to interpret fandoms or IPs the same way you do, and for sure absolutely no one needs to only write fic for fandoms they have a PhD in. People do this for fun and for free. Get some chill.
To all TV and movie producers out there, a heartfelt message to you:
STOP👏ADAPTING👏ORIGINAL👏WORKS👏IF👏YOU HATE👏THE SOURCE👏MATERIAL
#adaptations#listen I've had a good laugh at fic that took some of the few things everyone agreed on about certain characters#like literally I'm talking old sitcoms where character consistency was practically accidental#and people have taken the few things that are actually consistent and changed them#and I roll my eyes#but then I laugh and go read something else instead#learn to walk away#your blood pressure will thank you
