"This is supposed to be an informal section of the show where we... faint... or do whatever we wanna do... specially me."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two points I love the most on this first live performances of EP after a 7-year live concerts hiatus:
How easily he made people laugh, trying to break the ice (for his audience but mostly for himself) with quick jokes. His humor always fascinated me.
How real and dead-honest about his feelings he was with his audience (his own way). Elvis always was so honest with his audience about his feelings - something that would never change about him from the 50s until the very last moment he was onstage in 1977. He didn't put up masks. Like Lisa said about her father, "He didn't have a facade. Never put on airs."
I mean, I have anxiety so for me it's amazing how EP looked so good outside even with the turmoil of thoughts and feelings going through his mind at the moment. Other than his sayings, forgetting the script and some lyrics to his songs here and there, EP didn't look physically nervous at all during the '68 special live portion of the show. Steve Binder told about how EP even considered not even going up on stage, thinking he would do it terribly. That's how insecure he truly was feeling at the very moment that live show was recorded in 1968. I don't know about you, but if I was feeling like him, in the same position as he was, knowing the world's eyes would be on him and everyone would judge him - something he would read about the next days after this special aired - and this could mean the end of his career or the very beginning for more exciting times (as it was proven later to be), I would be shaking terribly, probably would have fainted for real too but he was amazing, collected and looking his coolest even if he was a real nervous wreck inside. It fascinates me every time.
The smile on his face when he heard the word perfect. So handsome and a beautiful smile 😍😍
