truly i don't think basim was ever as disloyal as when he chose to have a family despite being a hidden one
#not in the sense that he actively considered leaving/betraying#the brotherhood more that choosing to have a family#a different priority was in itself an act of betrayal#like later iterations of the brotherhood appear more permissive but#until altaïr having a family/children as a hidden one would#be discouraged if not frowned upon#kinda funny because the very few apical figures of the brotherhood#who knew the personal tragedy that (predictably?) befell basim in baghdad#the death/murder of his son that is#sort of presumed and hysterically feared an incoming betrayal#as if basim had yet to show his true colors when in fact#they witnessed and begrudgingly suffered basim's betrayal as it unfolded#there's no peak of betrayal to be reached after his son's death—#that's the mistake like the birth of his son was the true height of his betrayal#HCS.#somehow i'm leaving this in the tags
